Interview & Giveaway with Roxanne Snopek

FFRR - Roxane Snopek - Banner

Welcome to Books-n-Kisses Roxanne, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Married with three daughters. We once had five cats, three dogs, three birds, a rotating population of hamsters and a couple of fish tanks. Now, one of our daughters has moved out, we’re down to one cat, one bird and one betta in a bowl. The hamsters are running joyously on that big wheel in the sky. Still have three dogs, but they’re not the same ones.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I remember sitting in a coffee shop with a girlfriend, when I was about 20, telling her I would write a book one day. Didn’t know what it would be about, didn’t know anything about the business. But I loved to read and it seemed the epitome of existence, to belong to that club of people who created stuff to read.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

Interesting? I’m so dull your teeth would fall asleep. But I do write in my car sometimes. Scares passers-by, I’ll tell ya!

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?9781622661015_FC

Fake Fiance, Real Revenge is a (wait for it) engagement-of-convenience story with a side of revenge! (bet’cha didn’t see that coming). It features Mitch Granger, the estranged older brother of Carson Granger, from Three River Ranch. Hm. I guess that makes it a prodigal-son story, too. Anyway, Mitch needs a cover fiancée in order to land a business deal, and who better than high-school sweetheart Sabrina Becker, now the town midwife. Unfortunately, they didn’t part on good terms…

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

I had this one in my pocket, way back when I came up with the series idea. (Can’t remember where I put Snipe, my water-bottle – 15 times a day, I go Snipe-hunting – but a whole town of imaginary characters have real estate in my brain, that I can remember from five years ago. Sigh.)

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I’m wrapping up a novella for an Entangled Bliss Christmas 2013 anthology. It’s about a passionate do-gooder who “liberates” a bunch of what she thinks are reindeer, and gets caught releasing them, while trespassing, on Three River Ranch property. While it’s being house-sat by none other than the deputy sheriff. During a blizzard. Of course!

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

Lordy. So many authors! I’ve got a group of favorite Barbaras – O’Neal, Freethy, Rogan and Kingsolver – some of whom I’ve already met, but all of whom I’d happily buy drinks for! (You listenin’ ladies?)

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Three pieces: Invest in yourself. Be patient. Hang in there.

I’ve been working at this for almost 25 years, first building a freelance career, then working on the holy grail of fiction. Even with all my experience, I nearly gave up my dream of being a fiction author. Then I gave it One Last Year. I submitted like crazy, went to three conferences, joined two or three more writers associations, submitted some more, took several on-line workshops, plus a couple of classroom workshops, submitted up down and sideways, took a position on the board of my local RWA chapter, entered contests, judged contests… in short, I spent money and time I didn’t have, so that IF I decided to give up my dream, I’d be able to say I’d tried, really, really tried.

About a month before my self-imposed deadline, I sold.

Oh, and do yoga. Sitting is more hazardous to your health than you might think!

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

I want to visit the Galapagos Islands! I have a thing for turtles and tortoises. (Oh! I forgot, I used to have turtles, too! Did you know they carry Salmonella? Another story for another time.)

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’m reading RaeAnne Thayne’s Hope’s Crossing series right now and it’s just great! http://www.raeannethayne.com

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Real-estate tycoon Mitchell Granger has a problem. In order to secure a lucrative deal with an eccentric client, he told the teeny white lie that he was engaged…and now he needs to prove it. Even worse? The only name that came to mind was Sabrina Becker, the girl he was never good enough for growing up, and who still lives near his family ranch.

Sabrina doesn’t mind posing as Mitch’s fake fiancée—no, she doesn’t mind at all. One, she’ll make him pay with new construction for her business. And two, Sabrina’s got a plan to exact revenge on her first love, the boy who left her and Three River Ranch behind. She’ll pretend so well, he’ll fall in love with her…and then he’ll get a taste of what true heartbreak feels like.

But as Mitch sheds his corporate skin and picks up his dusty jeans and cowboy hat, will both his and Sabrina’s grand plans get derailed by love?

Interview with Melissa Stevens

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome 1st time guest Melissa Stevens to the blog.

melissa profile picMelissa, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Hmm, I assume you don’t want the standard bio? Let’s see…

I was born and raised in a tiny town in southeastern Arizona. I married young and I now have 3 not so small children (they’re all in school now.) I spend most of the day while they’re at school, and a lot of the evenings too working on my writing.

I’m a part of a local writing group, and I do a lot of things for them. My pet ‘cause’ is American Soldiers

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not really, I’ve always been creative but I never settled on any one thing I wanted to do. When I was about 15 my best friend’s dream was to be just like Garth Brooks. He had jobs lined out for everyone in his family, as well as me. I didn’t like what he chose for me, so I told him I’d just wait and write the tell all book and earn my money that way. He didn’t end up famous, (though he still plays in the same band he was in then) but I ended up writing, most of the time it’s all fiction, though now and then I’ll write something true to life.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

Typical day… I get up at 5:45 and get the kids off to school and Hubster off to work. While doing that I do all my ‘playing’ online. Facebook, etc. at 8, once everyone’s gone, I get serious. What exactly that means depends on what stage I’m at. Sometimes it’s solid writing, sometimes It’s reading and revising. Once in a while it’s working on formatting. I work until it’s time to pick up the kids from school, stopping now and then to answer emails or respond to something on my Facebook page. Then depending on the scheduled evening activity, I often keep working through sports practice as well. Once the kids are in bed, if Hubster is home (he sometimes has to work nights or is away from home) we watch TV and relax a little, if he’s not home, I work until I’m tired enough to sleep.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

I love the rush of finishing something, I also love the rush when someone, especially a family member tells me they really loved something I wrote. The most challenging part is working through issues I didn’t realize I had, until it was time for the character to deal with them.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?RobinsNestBN-1

My latest is Robin’s Nest. It’s a stand-alone erotic romance, as in, it’s not part of either of my series, and I have no plans to make it a series of its own.

It’s the tale of Samantha, who goes by Sam, everything’s moving along fine in her life until she’s in a car accident that puts her in a coma for a week. Her best friend, Robin, never left her side. Soon after she awakens to find him there, she realizes that her feelings for him are more than friendship, but is she willing to risk what they already have for something more?

How did you come with the idea for this story?

Honestly? I don’t remember. I wrote this one about four years ago, it was my first novel length story and I wrote it in under 30 days. I’ve revised and rewritten it so many times. I honestly don’t remember what gave me the idea to begin with.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

Currently I’m working on the first full length book in my White Mountain Chanat series. I started it with an erotic short story, Escape, and I’d planned for this one (still untitled) to be longer but along the same lines. My characters had other plans, they’ve informed me that while it will be steamy, it’s gonna take a while to get there, neither of them is willing to fall into bed and let the story play out amongst the sex.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

There are a lot of them, Dean Koontz, Laurell K. Hamilton, Lora Leigh, Jennifer Ashley are the ones that lead the list.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Of course. I love the sudden twists and turns that Koontz has always had, I always tried to figure it out before he told me. I love the strong, kick ass Anita Blake from Hamilton, I wanna be Anita when I grow up, if only so I can keep Nathaniel. Lora Leigh has some of the hottest erotica I’ve ever read, and that’s saying something. I love Ashley’s relatable characters. Most of them seem like anyone you might meet next door (except for the fact they’re shifters.)

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Nauti Enchantress by Lora Leigh will be out in a couple of months, I’m eager for that one.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Don’t forget to check out my website and all of my books, Robin’s Nest is just my latest.

RobinsNestBN-1

After a car accident puts her in a coma, Samantha awakens to find her best friend, Robin, never left her side.  While she recovers, Sam realizes there’s more between them than just friendship, but she’s afraid. What if it doesn’t work out between them, and it ruins their friendship.

Sam’s brush with death gives her a renewed understanding of how short life really is. Deciding the possible benefits are worth the risk, she faces the challenges from her over-protective family head on and leaps into life with both feet. When more challenges come their way, can Sam and Robin handle them together?

Excerpt:

As I drew closer, I saw Robin push himself off the side of the truck and stand to his full height of 6’1″. He opened his pickup door and reached for something inside. I pulled the Jeep off the highway, and watched as he locked and closed the door then crossed the highway and rounded the Jeep to the passenger side. Robin isn’t a particularly large guy. Yeah, he’s tall, but he’s lean, like the basketball player he’d been in high school. I leaned across the seat and lifted the lock on the door to let him in.

“So, what’s the problem this time?” I asked as he climbed inside and closed the door.

“Damned rotor again,” he replied, tossing his baseball cap with his keys inside onto the dash. He ran his hand through his shaggy blond hair. It stayed back for maybe three seconds before falling on either side of his face again, framing his deep green eyes.

I waited while he buckled his seatbelt, then checked for cars before pulling back onto the highway. Only going far enough to make a U-turn without hitting his truck, before heading back into town.

“I thought you kept an extra one in the glove box for when this happens?” I asked.

“I do, but I used my last one a couple of months ago and I forgot to get more on my next trip to Safford, then I just spaced it.” He ran his hand through his hair again, only to have it fall right back where it started. “Of course, it was about time for Murphy’s Law to smack me upside the head again, so here we are.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you about ready to give up on that antique or are you gonna buy another case of rotors for it?” Ribbing Robin about his stubbornly keeping the old pickup, despite its oddities, was an old habit between the two of us. Though we dig at each other and bicker once in a while, I don’t think we’ve had more than two or three real fights in our entire friendship.

“So it eats rotors. So what? They’re cheap. The frame, body, and motor are all in good condition. Why junk a good machine for one small, and relatively inexpensive, inconvenience?” He easily fell right back into the old game.

“It’s broken down, and left you stranded along the side of the road, how many times now?”

“A few,” he admitted, “but I can usually repair the problem in less than fifteen minutes and be back on my way. It’s my own fault I ended up stranded tonight. Besides, if you’d been busy I would have found someone else, or eventually, someone would have come along and given me a ride into town.”

He’s right, someone would have come along. It was barely eight o’clock, and not quite dark yet. However, this wasn’t the most used road out of town and he might have had to wait a couple of hours before someone came along.

“What were you doing out here?” I glanced at him before looking back at the road.

“I was on my way back from a meeting in Lordsburg.”

“That sounds fun.” My tone was dry. I didn’t know what the meeting was for, but if had been something he had enjoyed, he would have shared more about it.

“Any leads on a new job?”

“Not yet.” I shrugged. “I’ll find something, I’m sure. The question is, how long until I do?”

“If you need something to make ends meet, I can put you to work. It’s long hours and muddy as hell, but it’s work.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, thanks. I’ve got a while before I have to worry, though. I have a good chunk in savings and since I don’t have a house payment or rent, it will go a lot farther.”

“That’s true.”

I reminded him that I’d pick him up at eight the next morning as I dropped him off in his driveway. I waited until he made it to the door before turning around and heading home.

Pulling out onto the highway my mind raced ahead. My thoughts were already back at the house. It was only eight thirty, I still had plenty of the evening left. I could settle back onto the sofa, but the thought of a hot bath was even more enticing.

Suddenly, I was drawn back to what I was doing by bright lights directed at my face. I shook my head and barely had time to register the vehicle that was supposed to be in the left lane, it was in mine instead. I had nowhere to go. I couldn’t avoid it. The last thought that went through my mind was “How badly is this gonna hurt?” then everything went black.

Release Date: June 7th, 2013

To survive, she must put the past behind her. To love, she must learn to trust.

Homicide detective Leigh McBride’s first assignment with the FBI brings her face-to-face with a past she’s tried hard to forget. And when her temporary partner, a cynical ex-marine, lights a fire in her she thought long-extinguished, her darkest secret is threatened.

Scarred both physically and emotionally, Special Agent J. T. Noble is a man of few words. He prefers to keep people at a distance—until he meets Leigh. He’s attracted to her strength and drawn in by her secrecy. But in their line of work, secrets can be deadly.

When the killer they are hunting aims his vigilante justice at Leigh’s past assailant, the fine line between right and wrong blurs. To heal the past—and find their future together—Leigh and J. T. must learn that only through trust and forgiveness can love grow.

Excerpt :

The six-year-old missile launched himself into the air, giving J.T. two choices. Catch the kid, or let him fall to the ground like a deflated football. J.T. grabbed him and held Ethan out in front, as he would a wet, smelly dog.

Leigh jogged down the sidewalk, sparks flashing from her eyes. She pulled her son out of J.T.’s grasp and plopped the kid down at her feet. She knelt and got right in his face. J.T. made a mental note to not piss her off.

“What have I told you about running out the door?”

Ethan’s head bowed. “Don’t even think about it.” He stared at the tops of his bare feet.

“Obviously, you didn’t listen.” She tugged the knot at the back of her head tighter before she looked up. “Sorry about the attack.”

“Kid’s a natural born high jumper.” J.T. stuffed his hands in his pockets. She’d wadded her hair in the old-lady-school-teacher-bun-thing she wore at work. Probably just as well. If she’d left all that blond silk loose and sexy, he might’ve thought this was a date or something, which it wasn’t. Him being here was entirely the fault of his own big mouth.

“Please.” She waved a hand toward the wide-open front door. “We were about to come and get you.”

“You knew I was here?”

“A black Corvette rumbling around in our neighborhood doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Dressed in blue jean shorts and a thin-strapped top exactly the same blue as her eyes, Leigh looked more like a model than a mom. J.T. was glad he’d worn a T-shirt and Wranglers.

His chest double-clutched and pulled a weird stutter step when a small hand gripped two of his fingers and two small feet shuffled hurriedly to keep up with him. Tonight was a mistake.

SILK & SCANDAL

book 1 of The Silk Series

Release Date:
May 8, 2013

Eight years ago…
Thomas Cartwright and Lady Nicola Fitzgibbons were friends. Over the wall separating their homes, Thomas and Nicola talked of all things – his studies to become a barrister, her frustrations with a lady’s limitations.

All things end.
When her diplomat father gains a post in Hong Kong, Nicola must follow. Bored and alone, she falls into scandal. Mired in his studies of the law and aware of the need for circumspection, Thomas feels forced to sever their ties.

But now Lady Nicola is back…and she won’t let him ignore her.

Excerpt:

Thomas took a breath, knowing he had to phrase this just right. “Lady Nicola, while I am cognizant of the honor you do me, I don’t believe it appropriate you visit me in my chambers. Shall we arrange a time that suits us both, perhaps for a walk about the park?”

China-blue eyes laughed at him. “Oh, pish. Don’t be such a fuddy-duddy, Thomas. We never stood on such ceremony before.”

Didn’t she know he couldn’t be her friend? Not since their ways had parted and she’d become who she was, while he had become who he was. “Our situations were different before, Lady Nicola. It is not appropriate for a lady of your standing to visit a bachelor in his chambers.”

“Who is going to comment? No one knows I’m here.”

Was she serious? “My clerk knows you’re here. By now, the senior clerk undoubtedly knows you’re here. Before ten minutes have passed, everyone in the building will know you’re here.

“Well, then, they are a bunch of shocking gossips, and I should not like to know them any better.” She folded her hands in her lap.

“Not the point, Nicola.” Bloody hell, but she drove him mental. She tore at him and picked at him until he didn’t know where he stood. Always she’d done this, taken what little sense he had and driven it right out of his brain.

“I should say it is the point. Our visit would not distress you, if it weren’t for them.”

“It should distress me in any case. You should not be here.”

“Do you know what I’m hearing, Thomas? I’m hearing a vast amount of negativity, when you’ve not even greeted me properly. Why, you’ve yet to kiss my hand, or perhaps give me a h-hug.” Chin up, she looked at him with eyes brimming, and he saw right through her facade. She was truly hurt he’d not yet greeted her as he should.

Helpless, he stared at her. How did she do it? How did she turn his brain to mush? She’d been here less than five minutes, and already she had drawn him back in.

But she was right. He hadn’t greeted her as he should.

Standing, he went to her and drew her to her feet. “Welcome home, Nic.” And he hugged her.

Interview with Lindy S Hundis

Lindy thank you for coming back to Books-n-Kisses.  It is always a pleasure to have you on the blog.  For those who missed you before can you please share with us a little about yourself

First of all, thanks so much for having me today. Well, I am a wife and mother of 2, a boy who is   5, and a girl who is 10. My husband is a stuntman who crashes cars for a living, so I lead a pretty exciting life.  Right now  we are producing our first feature film, a dark drama called “SkateGod”. We own a film production company, so we are plugging away right now. www.ImpactMotionPictures.com

Have you always wanted to be an author?

No, I actually wanted to be an actress. I studied drama at NYU, and came out to Los Angeles to try my luck. I wrote a book about that experience too…but you’ll just have to wait for that one to come out….Then I went into film distribution for a little  while, then had my babies, then got back into film production again. Writing has always been a fantasy of mine, so one day I just did it!

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I write when it’s quiet, seriously. I wait for the kids to be at school then I can write. Sometimes I have a bit of music, but very softly.  I have to be in the right  frame of mind to get writing, then I can’t stop.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing.

Staying focused, and not letting myself get tired.  Sometimes I just become a bit lost in the characters, or sometimes I can’t seem to focus at all – I guess  that is called writer’s block? I try to avoid that. Sometimes my brain just goes  into total sensory overload.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

“Crashers” is a work of crime fiction about a trio of young people who get caught up in the seedy world of auto insurance fraud by staging car accidents.

“Weekends” is a romance/suspense about a family who gathers at a beautiful beach resort for the weekend while a deranged killer is on the loose.

“The S & M Club” is an erotic short story anthology about a beautiful lesbian couple who experience the pleasures and forbidden world of bondage.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

For “Crashers” I was a victim of auto insurance fraud, so I came up with that idea. I learned that there are criminals out there who do this kind of thing for a living.  So I wrote about those people, who must be horrible desperate. “Weekends” and “The S&M Club” were actually just fantasies of mine, however I did work in a bondage club in Los Angeles for a short while.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

“Skate God” our feature film – it’s about a skateboarder who lives in a frightening, dystopian world who discovers he is a Greek God. That has been taking up most of my energy. I also have my next novel, “City of Toys” that I wrote about my life as a struggling actress in Hollywood.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

There are so many – it is hard to choose.  For fiction I am a huge Stephen King fan, and for non-fiction  I would have to say Norman Vincent Peale – I am a big believer of the power of positive thinking.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

I love how graphic Stephen King is, yet he lets the reader use his or her imagination as well, he is just so prolific and creative. Although I don’t write horror, I do admire his style.  He can be very gritty and emotional, and I am very inspired by that.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

My “To Read” pile is so huge right now.  I just finished a wonderful book called “The Spring of Unexpected Circumstances” by Charles Shea LeMone.  I am a big fan of Charmaine Hammond and her delightful book “On Toby’s Terms.” Our company is planning on making that book into a film too.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It may not be armed robbery, but the illegal business of fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the accidents and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. What makes good people turn to crime—any type of crime? Newly engaged, Nathan and Shari are blissfully happy—but their joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt. They know it’s just a matter of time until an avalanche of bills buries them—and their future along with it. A chance encounter with a stranger in whom Shari confides her troubles, proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiancé on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, she takes the carrot offered her, and finds herself acting as a “stuffed passenger”—the “victim” in a staged auto accident. The act goes according to plan and Shari gets her payday. She goes back for more—again and again, eventually becoming trapped in a dark and dangerous underworld, dragging her fiancé with her. Getting out and breaking free will take nothing short of a miracle. A modern day cautionary tale, Crashers is a fascinating study in the derailing of a young couple’s moral compass.

Spotlight Feature: Being Ariana & Being Bound by Cristal Ryder

Being Ariana & Being Bound

Being Ariana

Is it better to get lost in your fantasy, or be found in another’s?

Ellie Taylor lives her erotic dreams by masquerading herself as Ariana and visiting the Black Phantom. In this club where anything goes, she plans to perform onstage before an audience, building her sexual excitement to a fever pitch before selecting her man. But Ariana is sidetracked by a tall, blond masked maitre-d. He captivates her and all thoughts of performing are forgotten. He’s every bit as domineering as Ariana and pushes her to her sexual limit. Their true identities concealed, they set out to use each other for pleasure–no risk of entanglement or commitment…but that may prove easier said than done.

WARNING: Explicit sex/language, domination, bondage and kink

Excerpt:

Ariana was coming out to play.

A little over a week ago through underground channels, word reached Ellie Taylor that the Black Phantom’s Lost in Fantasy Affair was tonight. Ellie knew she would be drawn out for some naughty fun masquerading herself as Ariana, her bolder alter ego.

For a week Ellie, a highly paid and respected Senior Vice President of Beauty for an international department store chain, moved through her day job in a high state of erotic anticipation.

She felt like a child waiting for Christmas morning. The time seemed to crawl by and focusing on her tasks became a chore, but being a professional, she survived the wait on a knife edge of arousal. Her daytime persona paid the bills. A life which satisfied her for the most part and gave her a normalcy she craved. But no matter how hard Ellie tried to keep Ariana at bay, her mysterious night side craved to come out and play.

Thinking about what she might do as Ariana this evening at the Affair made her breath hitch a little more rapidly and her heart tango in her chest.

Finally, tonight is here.

Ellie sat before the mirror with an array of powders, blushes, lipsticks and brushes and Ariana slowly emerged under Ellie’s creative fingers. Ellie took a moment to sit back and gaze at her masterpiece. She watched her lips as they rested against the edge of the crystal goblet and sipped the delicious red wine. Creating the right mood for Ariana’s materialization was critical, and the ruby liquid along with the scented candles and dimmed lighting in her dressing room accomplished an ambience fitting for Ariana’s arrival.

Ellie’s distinctive sea-green eyes couldn’t be camouflaged but she could alter them with black eyeliner, smudged kohl and thick eyelashes, creating a complete shock against her almost translucent skin. The eyes were important to her and needed to be just right. She pressed her baby finger to the outside corner and rubbed lightly, blending out the shade.

Of course, the makeup she used came from the best companies. She laughed out loud. If only they knew the expensive products showered on her were used to completely change her appearance.

Ellie outlined her shell pink lips and stained them with chili-pepper red, a stark contrast adding to her disguise along with the black tinted blush she swept across her cheekbones. Now as Ariana, she raised her chin and turned her head from one side to the other, critically assessing herself. One last touch and she was done. Ariana smoothed a few stray hairs on the deep auburn hairpiece before securing it in place. It was cut in a bob that ended just below her chin. With her blond hair wound up under the wig, Ellie transformed into sultry, mysterious Ariana. No one would ever guess Ariana was Ellie, and that’s how she wanted it.

Taking the goblet of wine between her fingers, she rose and padded naked to the walk-in closet. It was extraordinarily neat and bigger than most bedrooms. A true perk to the position she held in the real world.

No longer Ellie, Ariana now stood before a three-way mirror, and how she loved it. She could view her body from all angles. She sipped the wine and turned slowly, looking at every inch of her skin over the rim of the glass. As a teenager she’d hated her body, but as she matured she realized the power it held and learned to love who she was. She became expert at artfully draping clothes to accentuate her voluptuous shape, incredible legs and an ass even Jay-lo would envy.

Ariana viewed her latest tattoo, set in the graceful curve of her waist, just above her hip and slightly to the back. The artist had expressed surprise when she’d asked for a wren. But once she’d showed him the image she wanted, he didn’t ask any more questions and had set about recreating the small and delicate bird on her flawless skin.

She longed to touch herself, and it took all her determination not to. Her stiff nipples and the firm skin along her belly to the springy neatly trimmed curls between her legs beckoned her fingertips, to caress and stroke. She ached with need but restrained herself, clutching the wine glass a little tighter. Ariana knew if she gave in and her fingers reached the juncture of her thighs, she wouldn’t be able to stop. And pleasuring herself would detract from later. So she let the anticipation of touch satisfy her for now. She must wait, and licked her lips with expectation. It was time to cover up and dress for the Black Phantom.

~Being Bound~

Lyrical’s readers choice for 2012

Sometimes reality is so much better than fantasy.

A man used to getting what he wants, Tom Rourke doesn’t take being discarded lightly. Smarting from rejection, Rourke decides the complication of women is distracting him from his goal. He refocuses his energy into ownership of the Black Phantom, where he meets Heather Canyon.

Drawn into her erotic web, he can’t get her out of his mind. But can he trust her? The only way to know is to experience her first hand.

Dominatrix Heather Canyon is looking for a new beginning, and a safe place where she can let her talents shine. Rourke’s proposition is the perfect opportunity. She must test him to ensure they are the right fit for each other and challenges him at every turn. She isn’t looking for a partner, but has she found her match with Rourke?

WARNING: Light BDSM, kink, explicit sex.

Excerpt:

Their gaze met and he smiled, showing his white, even teeth. He was a handsome man. There was no doubt about that.

“Heather.” He reached his hand out and she waited for the jolt of desire when their palms met. She wasn’t disappointed.

“Rourke.”

His gaze boldly slipped from her face and took in her appearance. She stepped back and opened her coat for him so he could see what she wore. Heather slipped it off and held it out without moving her gaze from Rourke.

“Viktor.” She didn’t say anything more, simply his name as a test to see how responsive he was.

He scurried over and grabbed the supple leather as she dropped it, making sure it didn’t hit the floor, then disappeared behind the curtains of the stage.

No look of surprise crossed his face once her full costume was revealed to him and her small sense of disappointment intrigued her. She had expected a reaction and wanted it. But didn’t receive one. Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly and she watched his features. She knew she look perfect and sensed he was trying to remain unaffected.

“So then, shall we continue our discussion?” Heather turned and looked out from the stage. She moved to the edge and stood with her legs wide and hands resting on her hips.

“What more is there to discuss?” He was behind her and she felt his heat. It raised her body temperature and a sweet fullness began to settle between her thighs. Heather couldn’t deny she was highly attracted to Rourke. But for now, she would enjoy the edge it gave her and not fall prey to his seduction. His breath fluttered her long hair.

“Boundaries, rules, trust, salary.”

He chuckled and the deep rumble from his chest slipped around her like a thunderclap.

She turned to face him and before he could reply she continued. “You find that funny?” His smiled stayed, but an eyebrow shot up. “I can tell this is all new to you,” she said with a dismissive wave, the black leather arm sheath shining in the dimming light, “it is quite serious business not to be taken lightly.”

He stepped back from her and crossed his arms over his powerful chest, still not saying anything.

Heather continued in an even and firm tone, “I know of your club and didn’t come without, quite possibly, better knowledge than you.”

He shook his head, “I doubt tha—”

Heather put her hand up and he halted mid sentence. “I have certain expectations, as I’m sure you do.” She walked to the far side of the stage. She felt the weight of his gaze on her and almost smelled his desire. “I’d like to see the back rooms.” She swung her gaze back to him. His face showed his surprise. Did he really think I wouldn’t know? She could tell he was thrown off balance. She accomplished the most important feat in less than ten minutes. He had to feel her power and control and accept it. When he didn’t say a word and led her backstage, he had made it evident her power radiated over him.

Interview & giveaway with Jessica E. Subject

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to have Jessica E Subject back on the blog today to chat about her newest release Made For Her.

Jessica, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Hi Kelly! Thanks for having me back on Books-n-Kisses! Hello everyone!

I’m Jessica Subject, and I write contemporary and science fiction romance, ranging from sweet to erotica. In my stories, you could meet clones, or a sexy alien or two. You may even be transported to another planet for a romantic rendezvous.

When I’m not reading, writing, or doing dreaded housework, I like to get out and walk. Fast. But I just may slow down if there is a waterfall nearby. I also like to do Just Dance 3 with my kids, but most of the time, they’re not willing to go up against their mom.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

No. I’ve always been writing in some form or another, but I never actually considered writing for wide-distribution publication until I was on maternity leave with my second child. I actually went to university for Business and wanted to get into marketing. Though I couldn’t stand the cut-throat mentality.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

I’m glad you didn’t ask me to choose just one. LOL Before I started writing my own stories, I read books by Nora Roberts, James Patterson, and Janet Evanovich. Well, I’ve given them up for stories by Liz Crowe, Barbara Elsborg, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Kate Richards, LJ Garland, Lorna Suzuki, Kacey Hammell, and many others I know I’m guaranteed a great story. Plus, I’m always willing to try new authors if the blurb and the cover draw me in.

As for who has influenced my writing, I would have to say my four critique partners, who are also some of my fav authors, DL Jackson, Layna Pimentel, Zee Monodee and Rebecca Royce, plus the editors I’ve worked with, especially Kate Richards and Valerie Mann. They have all taught me so much.

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

I’ve always enjoyed the romance in stories, rather than the other plots. I write the contemporary romances, because sometimes my ideas just don’t work with aliens, clones, or even out in space. And the sci-fi, well, that’s where my heart lies. Though I’m not a fan of the hard-core sci-fi that doesn’t consider the romantic or even social elements of society. That doesn’t appeal to me at all, and I won’t be writing stories like that. My sci-fi romances are another way for me to get across my point that we should accept everyone for who they are rather than who we want them to be. Plus, doesn’t everyone deserve a chance at love?

What are some of your writing rituals?

I don’t have a lot of rituals, because I try to fit in writing time whenever I can. The only thing I usually do is chew gum. I’m not chewing any right now, and my jaw is sore from clenching it. I tend to do that whenever I’m on the computer. Hence, why I chew gum.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Thanks for asking! Made For Her is a futuristic military erotic sci-fi romance. Yes, it covers a lot of romance subgenres. LOL It deals with a woman in the military who must train a clone that was created from her late husband’s DNA. Here’s the blurb:

After terrorists murder the love of her life, Colonel Mikayla Jones trains squadron after squadron of the clones he brought to life, to take to the skies. When she discovers a young clone of her husband in her newest class, her world spins out of control. How can she command the look-a-like when she can’t help but yearn for him to fill an ache in her heart?

Dare was created to be the best. As the first Daniel clone to leave Onatria labs, he needs to prove he is more than just a DNA copy. To do that, he must rely on the wife of the man who donated his genes. But when she refuses to train him, Dare faces discharge and returning to the labs. Can he convince Colonel Jones to finish his training and find a way into her bed? Or will long kept secrets unhinge the entire clone project?

How did you come with the idea for this story?

With this story, I decided to get away from aliens in my sci-fi and try something different. I’ve always asked myself the “what-if” about Human cloning as soon as I knew what cloning was. And since many sci-fi romances deal with the military, I decided to try that aspect as well. I had a LOT of help from Karlene Petitt, who is a pilot, DL Jackson, who served in the US military, and my editor, Rie Langdon, who also has military experience. They helped me to craft this story together, so that it worked and fit into the military romance subgenre.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Sure! My current WIP is the third book in my sci-fi dystopian romance series, The Underground. The series started when I wrote the first book, Never Gonna Let You Go, loosely based on a story I wrote in my high school Science Fiction English course. But after the first story, I didn’t know where to go with the series. It took over a year for my muse to help me plot out the second book, Never Gonna Desert You, which is on submission. And right after I finished the second, I knew how the series had to end.

Each book in the series focuses on a different couple involved. The first story is MF with FF scenes, involving Erik, Calla, and Melina. The second book is FF, involving Melina and Brook. And the third book is MM, involving Tim and Will, and it will conclude the series.

What would you be if you were not an author?

I honestly have no idea. Before I started writing, I was working in retail as a store manager. I’d likely be doing the same thing.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Oh my gosh! I have so many books on my Kindle from the above mentioned authors to read. Plus, I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes. Thank you again for having me, Kelly! Before I go, I’d like to share an excerpt from Made For Her. Plus, I’m hosting a giveaway during the Made For Her tour. Details are below.

Amazon (Canada/US/UK) | Decadent Publishing All Romance | Barnes&Noble | more

Excerpt:

Colonel Jones eyed each one of her new cadets, examining the neatness of their uniforms, while inspecting for signs of stress or over-anxiousness. She’d never seen the telltale muscle twitches or sweats in any previous clones, only in human-borns, but she had to look for them anyway.

The first generation of clones didn’t live long enough to become cadets. Their hearts gave out within a year after incubation. But the scientists at Onatria had plowed on, utilizing more of Daniel’s research, speeding up the aging process with hormones to create the perfect generation she saw before her.

She’d had female clones in previous squadrons, but the government filled the one in front of her with testosterone-driven masculinity. If she’d been younger, she’d have a hard time concentrating. But her days of crushes and fantasies were long over. She was devoted to serving her country and planet, and nothing else.

That didn’t stop her from going out on the town for a stress-relieving fuck from time to time. But these young men in front of her appeared so virile, sure to last longer than any of her previous sexual partners.

No. As junior officers, and more importantly, as clones, they were off limits.

Inspecting them gave her the opportunity to check out more than their fatigues and tics, but if they knew her thoughts, they’d walk all over her. She’d be done.

They were of varying nationalities, builds, and heights, all fit to serve the planet. None of the cadets revealed any indication he would put the lives of others in jeopardy. This will be an easy squadron, every one of them ready to fly in a matter of weeks.

She reached the last cadet and froze. Her stomach clenched. No, they couldn’t have!

She pivoted on her heel and rushed off the tarmac, leaving the squad without an instructor.

Interview with Zoe Forward

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Zoe Forward to the blog today to chat about her newest release Dawn of a Dark Knight.

Zoe, can you please share with us a little about yourself

(Zoe) Thank you for inviting me to visit!  I’m a veterinarian with a passion for writing fiction and a special love for archaeology, especially anything Egyptian.  Although my past has taken me on field expeditions into rain forests, I’ve never had a chance to visit a hot sandy country to see a working archeological dig site.  It’s a goal. And I’m good at goals.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

(Zoe) Several years ago I realized I wanted to write fiction as well as read. The characters bumping around in my brain screamed to be free. Releasing them onto paper was an exhilarating experience.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

(Zoe) I’m thrilled to steal a few minutes in a busy day to pen some pages. Most plotting and brainstorming happens on my work commute or walking the dog. Most of my writing happens late at night. Bottom line is that I make it happen, but my writing days are anything but typical.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

(Zoe) Finding time to write is my biggest challenge! I’m a veterinarian by day and a writer by night. Some people wear capes and save worlds at night. I have a laptop and create worlds…I’d say my way is a bit less life threatening, but equally heroic.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

(Zoe) In Dawn of a Dark Knight Dr. Kira Hardy jeopardizes her brilliant medical career to save Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, after a brutal daemon attack. Their attraction is instant and, for Ashor, forbidden.  As an ancient nemesis resurfaces and targets Kira, they face a crucial decision—follow the gods’ rules or follow their hearts.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

(Zoe) The idea really just came to me all at once.  I love the mystery of ancient Egypt, and created this small band of heroes trying to make it in a modern world while obeying rules set down by ancient gods.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

(Zoe) I’m working hard on the sequel to DAWN OF A DARK KNIGHT, which is deliciously exciting. Let’s just say the whole cast is back, the newbies are screwing up (as usual), and there’s a new guy who was cursed long ago.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

(Zoe) I love to read, but I don’t get a lot of time to do so anymore.  Sometimes, I’ll have time to pick up a new book, but if I’m awake with free time, I want to be writing. I love paranormal romance, but also action contemporary fiction.  Some favorite authors that come to mind are Linda Howard, J.R. Ward, Heather Graham, and Sandra Brown.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

(Zoe) Absolutely! I’m inspired by the complexity of story these authors create, and the beautiful characters.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

(Zoe) Waiting for me are J.R. Ward’s Lover At Last and Rick Gualtieri’s The Mourning Woods.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

(Zoe) Thank you for the interview! Readers can visit me at http://www.zoeforward.com or email me at zoe@zoeforward.com.

In the shadows of our world, a secret band of warriors fights to protect us. They are the last line of defense against an evil no human can stop.

An ancient nemesis has resurfaced. Duty demands that Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, recruit a magical healer to fortify the remaining eight magi. The gods’ choice is the woman who helped him escape torture a decade ago. Ashor couldn’t have imagined a better punishment for his vow-breaker homicidal incidents than for the gods to bind him irrevocably to the only woman in the universe he cannot have. The soul-searing desire she ignites in him is strictly forbidden.

Kira Hardy, M.D. is a brilliant, hardworking internal med resident with big secrets. But when Ashor asks for aid after a brutal daemon attack, she is sucked into his dangerous, secret world. Enslavement to the magi, no matter how hot they are, may be an unattractive life plan, but being targeted for death by their enemies is less tolerable.

She must trust the sexy, tormented Ashor to keep her safe while he must deny his ultimate desire and keep Kira at arm’s length lest he bring destruction down on them both. As a centuries-old evil catches up to them, they face a crucial decision—follow the gods’ rules or follow their hearts.

Excerpt:

“Watch out,” Kira shrieked as a four-door import pulled alongside the SUV. The driver targeted Ashor with a gun.

“Down,” Ashor commanded. He dodged the firing muzzle and grabbed Kira forward to avoid the bullet’s path. The bullet left clean holes in the side windows and a spiderweb of cracked glass.

“Persistent bastards,” Ashor grumbled as he jammed the SUV into gear and rammed the car next to them before peeling away. Just as they hit the road, Ashor’s new cell phone squealed in a high-pitched, synthetic, musical noise.

“You okay?” he asked, ignoring the phone. To clear his side view, Ashor thrust his elbow through the spiderweb of cracked safety glass. Glass cubes showered everywhere. “Shit.” He wiped his body free of debris.

“I’m fine,” she replied. She whiplashed into the seat as the SUV was rammed forward.

Ashor tapped the brakes. The cars crashed together again, slamming them forward and then forcefully back in their seats.

“Can’t you do a spell or something to protect this car or make his explode?” Kira asked.

“What? No.”

“Aren’t you a magus, which implies magician or sorcerer? You guys are supposed to do magic spells.”

“The spells were lost.” His phone rang again.

“Lost? What kind of moronic organization loses the spells!”
