TOP 5 Romantic Ways to Propose
Hi, everyone!
I’m Shadonna, author of An Unexpected Bride, a romantic comedy about Emma Wiggins who is about to marry her heart-stopping, gorgeous boss, CEO Evan Fletcher in seven days. Only he doesn’t know about it yet!
Since An Unexpected Bride centers around the theme of love and companionship, I thought I’d compile a list some of the most romantic ways a guy could propose to his special girl. Check this list out (it’s in no particular order):
  1. While she’s asleep, he could slip the ring on her finger. In the morning, she would wake up to the sweet scent of roses and champagne and the surprise on her ring finger.
  2. He could create a romantic message or proposal and somehow secretly upload it to her iPod. That would bring music to her ears for sure.
  3. For beach lovers there’s nothing more romantic than having it spelled out in the sand. He could head down there before her and craft his proposal and later take a snapshot on his Smartphone for her to always remember.
  4. Hmm, as a chocolate lover I love this idea: He could order her favorite pastry and when it arrives at her table the words written in chocolate “Will you marry me (her name)?” could be written in beautiful italics. Of course he would have to arrange this beforehand with the chef.
  5. And I love this idea: He could create a blog such as www.I-love-you-(her name).blogspot.com for her and declare his love for her for the world to see and of course that special proposal will be included as the icing on the cyber cake.
Hope you enjoyed the list as much as I enjoyed compiling it. I thought I’d also leave you with a synopsis of An Unexpected Bride. Enjoy.
Desperate to fulfill her ailing grandfather’s last wish to see her settle down and get married, Emma Wiggins, a 30-year-old, career-focused executive tells him a little white lie on his deathbed that she is in fact engaged–to her boss, deliciously handsome and emotionally unavailable, Evan Fletcher.
The situation takes an unexpected turn when her grandfather’s condition improves slightly and to her shock, he goes ahead and arranges a wedding ceremony at his hospital bedside before he passes on. Now, all Emma has to do is convince unsuspecting, commitment-phobic Evan to tie the knot with her in seven days. Can love blossom in the most unlikely situation?

Interview with Liz Crowe

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to have the wonderful Liz Crowe on the blog today to chat about her new series.
Q1) Can you please share with us a little about yourself
I own a brewery and a beer bar. I write sexy books set in breweries, real estate offices, far flung countries, and on the soccer pitch. I have 3 teenagers (1 at college), 2 poodles, 1 hardly home executive spouse.  I adore watching English Premiereship and Spanish La Liga soccer, college football and basketball and hate to cook. I can bore you cross eyed with my deep knowledge of all aspects of craft beer including brewing it, selling it and maintaining market share.  I’ve lived in Japan, Turkey and England, had my passport stolen in Spain and been arrested by the Turkish Gendarme.  I like to read and write romance with an edge of “real” and usually avoid regency and sweet romance but am a sucker for a great Young adult dystopia (reading “Knife of Never Letting Go” right now and loving it!)

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Nope. Wanted to be a doctor but hit organic chem…wanted to own my own business though, so I guess I got that twice between “the brewery” and “the author.”

Q3) Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?
My typical day involves 90% beer work as I handle all aspects of sales, marketing and distributor relations and have to manage a bar staff, sales staff and my own pretty visible “Beer Wench” on line presence. I write at night, usually or, if I get the odd day clear of appointments have been known to marathon through and do 40k plus words.  I’m in the strange position of loving my “day job” as much as my writing one!
I have to have lots of coffee early, at least one bagel with cream cheese, loud music and alcohol later (beer for writing, red wine for editing, bourbon for galleys).

Q4) Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?
Challenging: being heard above all the fray of ever increasing published writers.
Rewarding: cover art day

Q5) Can you please tell us about your latest books?
Floor Time, The Realtors Book One has been a long project of my deepest heart. I’m lucky in that Tri Destiny Publishing saw potential in the series and has given me all I need to make it happen including amazing editing, top notch cover art, incredible promotional support and provided a platform to bring Jack and Sara’s epic story to reality.

Q6) How did you come with the idea for this story?
I sold real estate my self for many years. I found myself in way too many situations where the “what if?” overwhelmed my overactive imagination.  Many of the hottest scenes in the series are in settings pretty unique to Realtors.

Q7) Can you share with us your current work in progress?
Sure, it’s got soccer dudes in it.  I like to jump into non-traditional areas of erotic romance. I write stories set in breweries, real estate offices, uncommon locales like Istanbul, Turkey and on the soccer pitch.
Man On is an m/m coming of age kinda cougar story that is the first of what promises to be a VERY hot series about an expansion MLS team.

Q8) Who are some of your favorite authors?
I am all over the place with this.  I have to confess I’m not a huge “traditional romance” fan at all. I cut my erotic romance teeth on whatshername with the time travel history lady and the dude in the kilt and the cave people ones (oh yeah, “the pleasures”), have enjoyed Suny’s Monere (Mona Lisa) stories a lot and of course have been sucked into the BDB JR Ward thing to a certain extent.
But I also love authors like King, Franzen, Tyler, Atwood, Kingsolver.

Q9) Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?
Probably only Stephen King in that I think he writes some of the most realistic dialogue I’ve ever read and I try VERY hard to keep it real on the dialogue side.

Q10) What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
Well, yeah. ‘TOHR’S STORY” whatever the “lover” name it is from Ms. Ward. (I don’t live under a ROCK for crying out loud) and I have King’s alternative history thing about Kennedy queued up AND there is a new YA story about teenagers with cancer by John Green I can’t wait to read.

I have a “Street Team” of savvy marketers  as well.  You can join up by going to
It’s my attempt to get a little closer to my readers and less into the generic facebook promo mode. Check it out!

The Lust Factor by Jennifer Probst
Spotlight: Catch Me – Decadent Publishing
A big thanks to Books-n-Kisses for hosting me today! I’d like to talk about the erotic romance, and some of the particular challenges of the genre.

I’ve heard many critics of various novels state the hero and heroine of the book fall into bed too quickly to be believed. Definitely a valid point. However, when writing toward the erotic genre in the shorter category, authors need to get these two characters to the bed pretty fast, or there will only be time for one short sex scene and the happily ever after.

I found this to be a particular challenge in the erotic genre in novella formats. The trick? Throw your characters into lust…but give them enough layers and connection to build toward love.
Here are some quick steps to help writers achieve the goal to satisfy readers with both emotion and hot sex.

1. Get a concept: My new novella, Catch Me, is the first in the series of Decadents 1NS. The premise revolves around the mysterious Madame Eve who owns the One Night Stand company and brings characters together for the night. It’s safe, consensual, and exciting. With that theme, the reader is already set up to expect sex in one night – it’s just up to me to spin it with enough emotion and conflict to seem real.
By setting up the terms ahead of time for the reader, expectations are already in place, which makes it a bit easier to get these two to the sack.

2. Ramp up the conflict: Why shouldn’t they want each other? Characters need to have deep seated reservations about extending their initial sexual romp…that’s what makes the journey interesting. Throw in a brutal past, a conflicting career, a revenge plot, anything to allow the reader to enjoy the initial lovemaking but plant a seed of doubt if the characters will be able to work it out. That’s a good story.

3. Keep it fresh. Why do I want to watch two of your characters have sex right away if there’s no payoff for me? Sure, I love the lust at first sight, but once you close the door to the bedroom, surprise me. Whether it be toys, dirty talk, humor, BDSM – give me something to talk about. Or not. Of course, please don’t think you can’t throw in some nice, sweet vanilla sex. But then I’m going to expect some deep POV and emotion that will knock me out.

Readers may expect lust to bring two characters together, but a writer’s job it to up the ante and make sure that initial encounter is ripe with conflict, deep emotion, and heat.
Check out my new series with the Steele Brothers and let me know if I’ve succeeded!

Alexandria Maria McKenzie casts a love spell for a man to help save her childhood home, but she never planned on her best friend’s older brother.  He offers her a bargain: marry him for one year and he will meet her price.  A marriage in name only with certain rules: no emotion, no attachments, no sex.  The terms should be easy to follow since he is the man who broke her heart years ago.  Or are they?
Nicholas Ryan doesn’t believe in marriage or family, but he needs a wife in order to inherit DreamScape Enterprises.  He looks for a suitable candidate, but never planned on his sister’s childhood friend.  She is everything he usually avoids in a woman: too impulsive, too emotional, too demanding.  Of course, he intends to avoid any real entanglements and stick strictly to business.  Or can he?
The stakes are high, but neither bargained for love…

Spotlight Feature of Falling in Danger by Kaylie Newell

A journalist stumbles onto the story of a lifetime. And finds herself falling in danger…
When young, naïve reporter Jessica Brady is kidnapped and held for ransom by the head of an illegal dog fighting organization, undercover police officer Ian Cole realizes he’s got his hands full. He’s on the verge of busting the ring when he’s assigned to babysit her, which isn’t an easy feat. She’s neurotic, feisty, and also happens to be scared to death of dogs. Now he has to figure out a way to get them both out alive.
Jessica has no idea the thug she’s becoming attracted to is actually a cop, but it’s clear he’s not like the rest of the men in the organization. Particularly Albert Mancini, the disturbed only son of the ring boss, who has an appetite for alcohol and women. Especially Jessica.
When Ian’s cover is blown, he’s forced to bust the ring early. Weeks later, Jessica can’t stop thinking about the experience that has changed her forever. She wonders about the tall, sexy detective who saved her life. And the mobster’s prize-winning pit bull, Bruta.
An idea for a story is born. What if these dogs were given a second chance at life?
As Jessica digs deeper into their troubled world, she ends up falling for the police officer who rescued them. And discovers layers of her heart she never knew existed.
But when Albert escapes from jail, her happiness turns to terror. He hasn’t forgotten about the detective who put him behind bars. Or the beautiful young woman whose every move has become his obsession.

“This way.” Fitz pulled her down another hallway until they reached a door at the end. She limped along, her arm rigid in his hand.
“What are you planning on doing to me?”
Fitz eyed her as he opened the door. “Come on.”
Jessica leaned to the side, looking directly down an obscure flight of stairs which led God knew where. “Down there?”
He didn’t answer, but tugged on her arm, taking the first step down.
She locked her knees in place, her one useless Jimmy Choo sliding maddeningly on the tile. “I’m not going down there.”
“Yes, you are.”
“No, I’m not.” Her voice cracked.
“Yes. You are.”
She yanked, but it was no use. He held tight.
Full-fledged alarm finally lit her up like a firecracker. She kicked and clawed, while strange noises escaped her throat. She was vaguely aware of an arm wrapping around her waist, even as she arched away, bucking like something wild.
“Stop it,” he hissed. “You’re only going to make it worse, do you understand me?”
In reply, she turned and sunk her teeth into his shoulder.
Shiiiit!
He snatched her up, this time not seeming to care if he hurt her in the process. Again, she was slung over his shoulder as he made his way down the staircase. She twisted around, desperately trying to get a look at what was waiting at the bottom. Her heart slammed in her chest, and she couldn’t catch her breath. Being upside down wasn’t helping. Where was a paper bag when you needed one?
Fitz slowed and reached over to switch on a light at the base of the staircase, never easing his grip off the back of her legs. A weak, yellow glow overtook the room, and she looked up, shoving her hair out of her eyes.
It was sparsely furnished, and dim. She peered into every corner, trying to make out the details. The tangy, sweet smell of marijuana made her nose wrinkle, as well as something else she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Something vaguely familiar…and unsettling.
“If I put you down, are you going to be a good girl?”
She gritted her teeth, and mumbled.
“All right then.” With that, he leaned over and deposited her into a heap on the floor.
Glaring up at him, she scrambled to her feet, too overcome with fear to stay where she was.
She looked around again, stepping closer to Fitz, not knowing what should scare her more; him, or whatever was in the room with her.
Then she heard the unmistakable sound of a chain dragging in the corner. She whipped around and took a step backward, bumping into the wall of a man behind her. She flinched at the feel of his skin on hers, but couldn’t move away.
“What was that?” Her voice was no more than a squeaky exhale of air.
“That?” He took her arm and pulled her away from the shadows she gaped at. “That was Bruta.”
For Kaylie Newell, storytelling is in the blood.  Growing up the daughter of two gifted writers, she knew eventually she’d want to follow in their footsteps.  While she’s written short stories her whole life, it wasn’t until after her kids were born that she decided to shoot for the moon and write her first romance novel.  She hasn’t looked back since!
Kaylie lives in Southern Oregon with her husband, two little girls, an elderly Chihuahua mix, and two indifferent cats.

Guest blog with Jezebel Jorge

Books-n-Kisses – two of my absolute favorite things! What an honor is it to stop by today to tell you a little about our Ring Dreams series and Jezebel Jorge’s new release Séances & Suplexes.
I am Odessa, the Spirit Guide of Jezebel Jorge. Whether dead or alive, I also happen to be one of the most entertaining characters in these books my human writes. Just in case you don’t know what a Spirit Guide is, I am that little voice of wisdom and sometimes mischief that whispers in Jez’s ear whenever she seeks guidance. Okay, sometimes I don’t whisper and most of the time I give her my input, regardless of if she wants it or not.
Once upon a time I walked among the living. Jez and I were actually friends in our previous existence. Given that, I’m not sure why she freaked out so bad when she found out I was oh so very real. Well, I guess it is a tab bit eerie to suddenly realize one of the characters in your novel was once a real person.
Any hoo, enough about me… Time for Séances & Suplexes.
What, you might ask, is a suplex? First of all, most people don’t pronounce the word properly. According to the late great Gordon Solie is it pronounced sou-play. Gordon had it right, everyone else gets it wrong. It’s a wrestling maneuver where one wrestler picks his opponent off the mat and uses his own body weight drops the opponent back to the mat.
Alex Kafelnikov is quite skilled with this move and according to that slut Courtney Dalton he’s got a lot of other behind the scenes skills as well. She outta know, considering she’s never been one to keep her panties in place. When it comes to Alex, I can’t say as I blame her. He’s a twenty year old, 6’3″, muscled up roid rage just waiting to happen. He got his dark hair, olive complexion, and brown eyes from his half Chinese, half white trash redneck estranged mother and his sir name and ring skills from his son of Russian immigrants father. He got his multiple tats and piercings all on his own. Despite his young age, Alex has gotten very good at getting by on his own.
I’m guessing you probably have some idea of what a séance is – when you focus your energy to communicate with those who have passed. This is often done with a Ouija, or as we prefer to call them, spirit board. Ouija boards sometimes get a bad rap as being vehicles of evil used to summon demons. This makes me laugh. A board is only as powerful as its maker. My human, excuse me, Jez, is very good with spirit boards. With me watching her back I can assure you that no one we don’t want to talk to is ever gonna come through.
Any witch worth her athame knows that one makes their own personal spirit board instead of buying a toy one in a box from WalMart. Courtney must have missed that little detail when she was perusing “Witchcraft for Dummies”. It irritates me to no end that Courtney, of all people, is able to channel my beloved. Okay, so he’s her grandpa, I get the whole blood thing, but it’s so not fair. Those DeFliehr witches have been a thorn in my side since I walked among the living. We won’t go into all the gory details here, but if you want to find out how my granddaughter Rowan got her DeFliehr genetics, you can read Headlocks & Hexes.
Séances & Suplexes is all about Courtney hooking up with her boy toy Alex. She and Alex provide the usual Witch Lit sizzle and spice and I’ll take credit for the things not so nice. I’d also like to give away a free read so please leave us a comment and I’ll pick a winner or maybe two from there.
BLURB: Courtney Dalton doesn’t believe in the L— word. Pro wrestling rookie sensation Alex Kafelnikov is just supposed to be a Boy Toy. Nothing more. Nothing less. Both of them are dealing with the deaths of their fathers. She’s also got a new gym to open, a custody battle with her ex, and a young daughter who might just be the most powerful DeFliehr witch ever.
Then there’s Billy, the father of her twin sons. For Courtney, it’s always been Billy. At least until Alex comes along and makes her believe in the possibility of happily ever after. Well, at least happy here and now.
BIO: Jezebel Jorge is a practicing witch and gifted medium. When she’s writing it usually feels like she’s merely taking dictation for the voices running amok inside her head.
She currently lives in Nashville, TN with a spoiled rotten Golden Retriever / Great Pyrenees mix named Harry Potter and a mouthy Spirit Guide – that would be Odessa – with a fondness for snakes. You can follow Odessa on Twitter @spiritguidedess and Jezebel @witchlitchick.

Spotlight Feature of Annabel Lost Witch of Salem by Vera Jane Cook

From the Salem Witch trials through the Nineteenth Century and beyond, Annabel Horton is pursued by the devil’s disciple, Urban Grandier, the demonic priest from the incident at Loudon. She must take the bodies of those that the devil favors to protect her family. She must uncover the motive behind the illusive Ursula/Louis Bossidan, the scandalous cross-dresser who is pursuing her beautiful granddaughter, and she must learn, being one of God’s most powerful witches, how to use her power. But will it be enough to save her husband from Urbain’s fiery inferno? Will it be enough to save her children from demons greater than themselves? Read on, you will learn more…..
Excerpt:
When I am not in the form of flesh, I live in the confines of shadow. The psychics of your dimension have said that I can be seen floating between the kiss of dusk and the evening moon. Yes, some of you can actually see me, though you are unaware of what I am. You usually ignore me because I vanish so quickly. I simply blend into the surface of your world and disappear,  into objects, into trees, into the soft fur of a sleeping squirrel, into anything that will have me.
Before I begin my tale, you must know this: I can also blend into a human body. I can steal your flesh if I choose. But before you judge me, you must understand my loneliness. You have no idea how desperately I desire the physical senses you so cavalierly take for granted. But please, do not fear me. I will not harm the innocent. Hear me out before you cast any stones. There are secrets in my tale worth knowing.
The snap of my neck appears to have granted me immortality as a captured soul, doomed to live over and over again in stolen flesh and blood. Therefore, I take bodies in exchange for my freedom. I want you to understand that if I were to ever choose your flesh, I would mean you no harm. I would simply borrow the luxury of your language and take comfort in the pleasure of your warm, beating heart.
The process of my abduction is painless. You see, the earth holds time. When I consume a body all I do is absorb time. It is quite simple. My soul moves out of one perception and into another. Let me reassure you that though I can take any one of you, I prefer the flesh of those whom the devil favors, and I do not have to go very far to consume the devil’s own.

Interview & Giveaway with Tara Lain

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Tara Lain to the blog today to talk about her new books.

Tara Lain never met a beautiful boy she didn’t love – at least on paper. A writer of erotic romance, mostly ménage and male/male, Tara loves all her characters, but especially her handsome heroes. A lifelong writer of serious non-fiction, Tara only fell in love with EROM in 2009 and, through perseverance and lots of workshops, had the first novel she ever wrote published in January of 2011. Then she capped off the year by being voted Best Author of 2011 in the LRC Awards and had her Genetic Attraction Series named runner-up for Best Series of 2011! A very good year. After an exotic life of travel all over the world and work in television, education and advertising, Tara settled in Southern California with her soul-mate husband and opened her own small marketing business. She paints, collages, and started practicing yoga “way before it was fashionable”. Passionate about diversity, justice, inclusion and new ideas, she says on her tombstone it will read, “Yes”.

Q 1) Can you please share with us a little about yourself
I write the Beautiful Boys of Romance. I knew from my first moments as a fiction writer that my books would always be distinguished by my gorgeous heroes and so far so good. I’m only a little over one year old as a published author. My first book, Genetic Attraction, came out in Jan of 2011. The book I am introducing this week, Fire Balls, is book number seven for me with another book releasing next month and two more under contract. It’s been a busy year! Most amazing is that I was recently honored to be named Best Author of 2011 in the LRC Awards and my three- book Genetic Attraction series was runner-up for best series of the year. As you can tell it’s also been a breathtaking year! I have a great (and busy) fulltime job in advertising and public relations, I am ecstatically married to my soul mate and, if I ever have a moment’s spare time, I love movies and doing  mixed media collage. I practiced and taught yoga way before it was fashionable. I have a great life.
Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
I’ve been a writer forever. I make my living as a non-fiction writer and thought for a long time that I would never write fiction because writing all day and then all night too sounded like work! But then I found erotic romance and suddenly I felt like I could write it all day every day and it would be fun. So one day a couple years ago I sat down and wrote a book. After a lot of editing and learning that book became Genetic Attraction.
Q3) Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?
I am fortunate enough to get to do my “day job” at home which means I can do some writing of novels in the cracks –before I start work, on my lunch hour. Sometimes it’s no more than a few lines, but bit by bit the work gets done. Then on the weekends I write a LOT! I like to write in my home  office on my desktop computer because the screens are so big, although I carry my iPad with me and also write in downtimes when I’m away from home. I don’t mind noise when I write but I can’t write easily with music playing. Background music is okay but I don’t have a writing soundtrack like many authors. Somehow it seems to interfere with my creative flow.
Q4) Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?
I love living in another world (even though my own is pretty great). I love the feeling of being absorbed in my character’s heads and hearts. That moment when they take over and just talk and you try to keep up is thrilling to me. It never gets old. The challenge is to keep getting better. To constantly learn new things, improve your style, deepen your focus.
Q5) Can you please tell us about your latest book
This week, I am introducing Fire Balls. It is a MM contemporary novella but that doesn’t begin to describe it. I love contrast in my books and the unexpected. My alpha males are never the guys you expect and I enjoy giving dominant characteristics to seemingly effeminate men. Fire Balls tells the story of a flamboyant artist who also happens to be a black belt in karate. He has a huge passion for a beautiful, conservative firefighter, but since Rodney the artist is tiny and very ostentatious he assumes that the firefighter could never love him back so he breaks his own heart but helping his friend Jerry, a surfer, to land the gorgeous man. Fire Balls is the second in my Balls to the Wall series of books that take place on the beach in southern California.
Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Last year I was delighted to be asked to submit a story for a beach anthology. I created a novella called Volley Balls which turned out to be a bestseller on the Amazon Gay Romance list. I knew I wanted to do sequel and I wanted it to have “balls” in the title so I started thinking about all the possible names. Fire Balls leaped out and with it came the germ of a story–it would involve a Laguna Beach firefighter. There was a character in Volley Balls I loved. My hero’s best friend, Rodney. So if you have a hunky firefighter, what could be a more different or unexpected match for him than a hero named Rodney who is 5’ 6” tall and flamboyant. But I wanted another twist and I thought about the old Rostand book called Cyrano de Bergerac in which the hero is a great swordsman and poet but has a big nose and considers himself unworthy of the gorgeous heroine. Consequently, he helps another man win her. That became a thread for my book–without the nose!
Q7) Can you share with us your current work in progress?
My next book being released on March 20 is my first true paranormal. It’s called Spell Cat and it’s about the greatest male witch in ten generations who is called on to save his race by marrying a powerful female witch. Problem is–he’s gay. And he’s in love with a human male which is bad since humans are the cause of the decline of witchery because they steal human energy. There is a black cat familiar in the book named Aloysius. Hence–Spell Cat. The book I am completing now for submission is a MM contemporary fantasy. What is that you ask?  Ah, you will have to stay tuned.  :  )
Q8) Who are some of your favorite authors?
I have many favorites in my genre but I will name the three that I consider my mentors because their writing inspired me to want to try fiction — Jet Mykles, Lynn Lorenz and Z. A. Maxfield. They are all friends now and I have learned so much from them. They inspire me every day.
Q9) Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?
I see a little bit of all three of them in my writing. I love Jet’s over-the-top heroes and I know mine share some of that characteristic. What Valentine’s Day Means to Me: 10 Things
Valentine’s Day – The day we are expected to send pictures of red naked winged-babies to our loved ones. A holiday marked with wine and candles and all that jazz. The day commemorating the horrible executions of several early Christian martyrs named St Valentine, which, some years, may seem all too symbolic.
But we all know that stuff. Here’s ten personal things that Valentine’s Day means to me:
10. Cherry red tinsel. Everywhere. And the burned out retinas that accompany said tinsel.
9. Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting – the greatest thing to come out of this holiday, and possibly any holiday? Perhaps.
8. The time that someone pointed out to me that the classic heart-shaped valentine has a similar shape as the labia majora, upside down, arguing that that is why it is shaped that way. I’ve never seen Valentine’s Day decorations the same way since.
7. Hot cocoa. I don’t drink wine, so this is my drink of choice. Add a little whipped cream, and it’s about as romantic as it comes.
6. Sappy movies. I admit it, ‘tis the season for romcom marathons, and I eat it up. I have a list on my blog of the thirteen best romantic movies for the holiday, and it is my preferred way of celebrating. In my pajamas. The way all good holidays are meant to be enjoyed.
5. Filling out thirty little cards that come in a box from the drugstore and feature the latest licensed fad characters for my sons’ preschool class. Not only is this both slightly annoying and rather adorable, this is also a great way to find names for new novel characters, since every year I get thirty new names I hadn’t thought of before. Well, this year it’s twenty-eight, since there’s two Jordans and two Lukes.
4. The two-week warning mark before my son’s birthday, and time to finish the shopping and decoration plans. Okay, so not romantic at all, but as a mom, you learn these memory queues to avoid insanity.
3. Red bowls full of candy. I’m a teacher, so this time every year finds me scooping up armfuls of candy to bring to class. Valentine’s Day always reminds me of buying $50 worth of junk in one go, and avoiding eye contact with the cashier as she rings it all in.
2. The constant struggle to find X-Free store-bought treats for the Tot’s preschool class Valentine’s Day party, where X stands for peanuts, gluten, sugar, animal biproducts and gelatin, Red # 40, artificial sweeteners, lactose and soy. Oh, and individually wrapped, as well. And holiday-themed, if I can manage it. Oy.
1. Romance novels! You knew I had to say it, and here it is. Now, on such an important day, I don’t always leave it up to chance by reading just anything. This is the day every year that I dig out one of my treasured paperbacks from my favourite writer, LaVyrle Spencer. This year, it will be The Endearment, I think. Nothing brings home the message of romance like a beloved book and a timeless story of lovers. It makes me proud of what I do.
Happy Valentine’s Day, with many books and kisses included, to each and every one of you!
What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?

V-Day, an erotic romantic-comedy for Valentine’s Day
It all started with a serenade…

A family like Daniel’s and the solitary pursuit of musical excellence is enough to make a young man crazy. No wonder all Daniel Vouks dreams of is getting away. He knows his violin will take him places in life, but the only place he really wants to be is next door. He’s been in love with his neighbor since he was fourteen, but can he ever make her see him as more than just a lovesick kid?

V-Day is the story of a Valentine’s Day weekend Daniel fears he may regret, but will never, ever forget.

Excerpt:
Daniel retreated to the music room, thankful he didn’t have a class or a practice scheduled on campus today. He didn’t even have to give any lessons until next week. The weather really didn’t look all that welcoming and he was grateful he could huddle inside as his family bustled off to their various destinations. After school, his parents would be off for the weekend, dropping his sister and her flotilla of luggage off at Kayley’s so the girls could get ready to go to the dance together, which meant leaving Daniel officially on his own until at least Sunday afternoon. Glorious.
Allowing the noise of their departures to roll off him as he sat absently at the piano, he plucked out a few strains and watched the sun glint off the fresh snow in the backyard. It was really beautiful when you could view it from a cozy place.
Blah! Another Valentine’s Day. His nineteenth one as a single guy. And, he thought ruefully, his nineteenth year as a confirmed virgin.
Jesus, even his baby sister had more going on than he did. Selby, his girlfriend in tenth grade, had been about as close to any action as he’d ever gotten. Her pathological fear of pregnancy made it absolutely essential that he keep his pants on at all times. Other than that, any girl he’d ever liked had tossed him into the “friend” basket and never bothered to reassess him.
Kelly, his best friend, did that. After Daniel followed the cute redheaded soprano around for weeks like a puppy, she finally took pity on him and explained he was simply too nice to attract her. After that, they formed an easy relationship through which both had a pal, and a no-fuss “emergency date” when necessary.
Flipping open his phone, he hit Kelly’s number.
“This better be good,” she grumbled after the fifth ring.
“Hey early riser,” he chuckled.
“Well, if I had my mom bringing me my morning coffee in bed…”
“Okay, truce,” Daniel winced. “And my mom doesn’t let me drink coffee.”
“Why not? Afraid it’ll stunt your growth, stretch?” Kelly asked with a crystal clear laugh despite having just woken up.
“Something like that,” he said, flecking a flower petal off the top of the piano. “Listen…You’re probably…I dunno…busy tonight, right?”
“Are you trying again, Danny?” she groaned.
“Well, no. I just thought if you weren’t, maybe we could do something.”
“I have a date.”
“Right,” he forced a chuckle. “Yeah, I figured you would.” He straightened in his chair. “Being Valentine’s and all. No problem, just wanted to check.”
“Ahhh, Danny,” she sighed. “What about you?”
“I got a hot date all weekend,” he said over a grimace. “With that friggin’ tango, I guess.”
“Danny, do yourself a favor,” she said firmly. “Go get yourself laid. I told you that’s what’s missing from your tango.”
“Well then,” he quipped. “Support the arts and break your date. I can be there in an hour.”
“Har har har,” she said and then laughed for real. “Seriously, go fall for someone. Preferably someone who will fall for you back.”
“Okay,” he agreed. “For you, I’ll try my best.”
Daniel hung up and pounded out a few more notes on the keyboard in front of him, contemplating Kelly’s method music theory that said you could only sing or play what you’d experienced. If that were the case, his tango would remain a virginal one if his luck so far was any indication.

Top 10 Love Songs
When I thought about what I wanted to write for my guest post, I eventually narrowed it down to music. I love music. I listen to it all the time. If you’ve ever taking one of those tests where you determine your learning style, I’m told mine is musical. I would have thought it was literary giving the writing and all…but no.
Now in terms of top ten…this is just ten selected. Who could possible say these are the top ten? It is so subjective. I have over 20 GB of music….and it was hard to just pick ten to even talk about.
I’m guessing you might be able to tell a bit about me from the selected tunes. I did try to pick some things from various genres I like. They are in no particular order. I’m hoping I didn’t date myself too much J
1.         “Every Time I Think of You” – The Babys
I heard this on the radio earlier in the week and I thought to myself…mmm I’ve always liked that song. When I got home, I downloaded it on iTunes and it’s been in heavy rotation all week at my house (no doubt to the continuing dismay of my neighbors). It’s a great song and also not a ballad. I suppose you could characterize it as a power ballad. While there is anything wrong with ballads, I find this appealing, in part, because of the aggressiveness of it.
2.         “Wonderful Tonight” – Eric Clapton
I have loved this song for years and years. Now ignoring the biographical backstory of its author, it just simply is a moving tribute. A man loves a woman. Everything she is, is beautiful to him. Does it get any more lovely and straightforward?
3.         “Truly Madly Deeply” – Savage Garden
The lyrics of this song are like a poem. I can play it over and over without getting tired of it. It’s bold, big, and breathtaking. It is about being in wonderful places with someone special and perhaps how everywhere is special if you are with the right person.
4.         “Accidentally in Love” – Counting Crows
This song is simply fun. It is a more playful take on the concept of falling in love. It calls to the more quirky, less sappy side of me.
5.         “Strawberry Wine” – Deanna Carter
This song is all about young love, first love. It is so very different from my experience as I was somewhat of a late bloomer. I think that is why I find it so appealing.
6.         “She Came From Fort Worth” – Kathy Mattea
Kathy Mattea is truly a gifted song writer. Her songs usually tell stories and this one is no exception. I like the sound of it but perhaps also the lyric reminds me of myself. After all, I moved from New York to Hawaii in pursuit of true love.
7.         “Head Over Feet” – Alanis Morissette
Jagged Little Pill came out during a time of heavy social activity in my life. This song in particular became a huge favorite of mine because it seemed to encapsulate my feeling of falling into infatuation over and over again that I was experiencing at the time.
8.         “I Honestly Love You” – Olivia Newton-John
This song is totally a cliché type song, but still heartfelt. I was a huge ONJ fan as a kid (still am I guess) and I really like her rendition. As a bonus, I can sing along with Olivia a lot more easily than I can with Whitney.
9.         “Anymore” – Travis Tritt
Not everything about love is wonderful warm feelings and emotional connection. This is about unrequited love. I imagine someone desperately, secretly in love and afraid to share it. Revealing something so vulnerable is a truly frightening thing to do. Opening yourself to rejection is never easy.
10.       “I Don’t Believe You” – P!nk
This is another sad one. It’s a love song, but a love song about heartbreak and disbelief. Since P!nk got back together with her husband, when I listen to this song I can’t help but think she was right when she penned this one.
So take a moment and sample some of my suggestions. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. What are some of your favorite love songs? Feel free to comment and let me know your nominees.
To go with my love song theme, I picked an excerpt this is a bit more romantic. The following is from The ABCs of Erotica – B is for Beach.
Excerpt –
Erica loved the beach. She especially loved it at night when the moonlight reflected off the water and the sound of crashing waves broke on the shore. There was no one else on the beach but the two of them, and the solitude was lovely. During the day, the beach was hot, crowded. But now, with the moon and stars it was a place of dreams. She’d fantasized many times about being on the beach with a lover, alone together in the darkness, the water drowning out their cries of ecstasy. She shook her head ruefully. She was getting ahead of herself.
A gust of wind swept up, and Erica shivered a bit. Ben stopped, running his hands over her chilled arms and then leaned forward, pressing his lips against hers. Liquid pleasure filled her and Erica strained closer, bringing her hands to his shoulders. Finally, the moment was here. She’d waited all evening to feel his lips. Again and again, Ben kissed her urgently. He slid his tongue into her mouth, rubbing against the inside of her lower lip while Erica pressed herself fully against him. They embraced for a moment more and then pulled apart and continued down the sand.
Erica moved closer to the edge of the water and a wave broke over her feet, soaking the hem of her long, gauzy skirt. She laughed as the cold, swirling water retreated. Ben grasped her hand, pulling her back toward the dry sand which clung to her feet. They collapsed onto a small, raised dune, and Ben reached down and brushed away the sand. His fingertips brushed lightly over the tops of her feet, sweeping the grains away. She leaned toward Ben and his lips met hers again, kissing ardently. Closer and closer, Erica wrapped her arms around him and he sank back into the sand, taking her with him. She felt her bonds slip away. This man knew her. She could be exactly who she was.
Erica pressed close against Ben, but the barrier of their clothes was intolerable to her. Button by button, Erica opened his shirt and slid her hands inside. Her palms pressed against the smooth skin of his warm chest, touching, caressing. She fingered his nipples, tracing around the edges and rubbing across the puckered texture. Her hands moved up to his shoulders, and Ben sat up so Erica could push his shirt and jacket down his arms. She nipped his shoulder with her teeth and slid her tongue over the mark, pressing her lips against his skin.

Lila’s Top Ten…Sexy Foods….
Thanks, for having me over today! I thought I’d share a bit about me today rather than bore everyone with one of my lessons in writing. J Sexy foods anyone?
My idea of a sexy thing doesn’t necessarily embody what most would consider sexy…you know dark and lush and completely sinful. My list does involve a few standards, but I think you’ll be surprised what else I find decadent…tasty…sexy.
Before I get started, I’ll tell you a bit about how I came up with my list. Several months ago I was asked what I thought was the sexiest room in the house other than the bedroom. Without a second’s pause I immediately replied, “The kitchen.” Why you might ask? Because to me it’s the heart of the home where nurturing takes place…and that’s sexy. It’s also sensual, and if I might say it lends to a completely submissive frame of mind in and of that is where you can care for someone, give yourself up to them in a pleasing way, in a non-sexual way. I love to cook and when I know I’ve pleased my husband by feeding him something that satisfied him on not just a purely nutritional level…that makes me a very happy woman…
So here goes…Lila’s top ten sexy foods…
Number ten: Fondue. Yes you read that correctly. What’s more fun than gooey cheese or drippy chocolate that you can feed each other?
Number nine: Cheesecake. Need I say more? I mean come on…it’s lush and decadent and feels so good on the tongue…yum!
Number eight: Oysters. I live on the east coast…yes, it is true what they say. I’ve never been disappointed yet after one or a dozen.
Number seven: Strawberries. What’s not to love? Sweet, juicy goodness on a stem that can be rubbed across…
Number six: Chocolate. Yes, a standard, but this stuff is just pure sin in any form. Would you not agree?
Number five: French fries. J I can hear you all right now…What? Okay, this one comes from a friend who tells me one of the most romantic moments with her husband involved French fries…I believe her. J
Number four: Pasta, specifically spaghetti and meatballs. Why? Because of Lady and the Tramp, that’s why…and that’s my husband’s and my movie…I know a hopeless romantic.
Number three: Comfort food. See I told you I was outside the box. What says love more than a plate of fried chicken, mashed and gravy, and a big fluffy biscuit? I think it’s a sexy way to feed my man after a hard day’s work and it keeps up his strength for other things…
Number two: Pizza. When I first met my husband I was working horrendous hours and he was an instructor. Dinner time was not a joy and sometimes didn’t exist. It was the sexiest thing for him to bring home a pizza and feed me…see this erotic nourishing runs both ways. J
And, the number one sexy food for me: Wedding cake. There is nothing sexier than sharing that first piece as man and wife…sometimes I buy a cute little cake just because I can and have it with my husband along with a glass of bubbly—also sexy by the way…

Assumed Identity

Innocent childhood games of dress-up and pretend…

Julie Stevens is as straight as they come. Or so she tries to convince herself. But it isn’t easy believing that little white lie when she has the two most sexually eccentric best friends on the planet. One is a bi-sexual Domme who believes if it looks fun, try it. The other is a gay man in the role of slave to his very sexy Master whom Julie often wishes wasn’t gay. Dante’s commanding presence makes her want to do things that set her on fire with need and embarrassment. Given her boring vanilla life, how exactly does she fit into their world? Would they like to have a shinier third wheel?

Are a completely different animal for grownups…

After one wild evening and a bit too much liquid encouragement, Julie discovers a side of herself she’s always tried to ignore. The realization she’s a sub not only scares her, it excites her and she yearns for more. But the process of finding the right man to teach her becomes a real issue, until Mason comes along. He’s everything Julie imagines a Dom should be. Armed with her masque and Renaissance costume, Julie is thrown for a loop when the handsome Master draws more willingness out of her than she ever thought possible. Is it possible she’s more than a submissive? And will the assumptions he’s made about her identity end up tearing them apart?

“Are you wet, angel?” Mason asked, running one hand down the middle of her back. Her intake of breath told him she was and that she didn’t want to admit it. “Answer me. Now.”
“Yes,” she whispered over a whimper.
Covering her body with his, Mason leaned over her and gently took her by her hair. “Tell me what you need, angel.”
Silence. Sniffling. Muffled moans.
“Julie. Tell. Me. What. You. Need.”
“Sex.” Her voice was barely audible.
“No. That’s what you think I want. I know what I want. You’re to free your mind of thoughts concerning what you think I want.” Mason pushed back up and began moving one hand over her back in a soothing pattern. “Tell me what you need.”
“I need…I…Don’t make me…”
“Say it.”
“I need to come,” she whined.
“Good girl,” he praised. “Now tell me what you want.”
“I don’t understand…”
“Yes, you do. Tell me,” he growled.
“I want you to make me come,” she gushed, arching her back into his constant touch.
“I’m going to do just that, angel,” he spoke harshly, leaning back over her and taking a handful of hair, raising her head enough he could nip her earlobe. “Tell me you understand.”
“I understand.”
“When’s the last time you had an orgasm?” She started to answer and he cut her off. “With a man?”
“I can’t remember.”
“Shame on them,” Mason told her.
He stood and while keeping one hand on her lower back letting her know he was still present, he unbuttoned his jeans then unzipped them slowly, adding to her agony by being forced to listen to the click of each tine popping open. Scooting his pants down his legs along with his boxers, he stepped out of them and when his hand left her so he could sheath himself, Julie grunted in frustration.
“Get on your back on the bed,” he said as he finished rolling the condom down. She needed the visual contact even if she couldn’t see anything but shadows and reflections.
She hesitated, looked behind her as if trying to determine if he was baiting her or not, then turned and backed across the mattress before lying down with her legs spread and her arms at her sides, her eyes tightly squeezed shut. So clinical, as if she expected to be used as a vessel. Who the hell had she been with before and what the hell had they done to her to make her think sex was about lying like a dead fish while the man got what he wanted? Then he remembered what she’d been like at the party, after he’d caught her in the chase.
She was carefree and happy, not at all a dead fish beneath him. As he’d lain on her in the garden, she was vital and eager. Mason believed she’d have done anything he asked of her she was so pliable…She’d been Hayden. Not Julie. She’d not just been dressed for the party. She was literally hiding behind her masque.
A bit of anger and sorrow wound around Mason’s state of arousal and squeezed him as he realized she had to assume an identity to feel. Then he was almost ashamed at the bit of happiness that crept in at the realization that she was not only fresh and new to his world but actually, she was like putty in his hands. She was ready to be molded into the person she was perfectly capable of being. He could be the one to show Julie how good it really could be, not just physically, but emotionally as well. For tonight though, she needed a safe haven, a place where she could turn her fears into dancing.

The First Kiss
The first kiss in any relationship can be such a magical experience, or absolutely dreadful, but either way, always memorable. It can turn friends into lovers, crushes into relationships, or make you want to run and hide. I remember them all.
In fiction, the first kiss changes everything as well. It is usually a major plot point in any romance story, and determines what the characters do next.
Here is the first kiss in Unknown Futures:
Jewel pressed against her, her head resting on her shoulder, swaying to the decelerated beat. “I don’t want this night to end.”
Their dancing became deliberate, a sensuous and intimate rhythm. “It doesn’t have to.”
Jewel stopped and looked up at her. “You…you’re interested?”
“Why wouldn’t I be? You’re the most beautiful creature in the space station.” Somehow, she had to make her see. She brushed her thumb across her lips, wanting to touch more, her entire luscious body. Taking a deep breath, V steadied herself. If this were to go any further, Jewel needed to show her own intentions. As warm moisture pooled between her thighs, V schooled herself to patience.
“Are you sure youre not my date?”
Shit! That damn date, the only wedge between them. “No, but I wish I was.”
“I wish you were, too.” Jewel stood on the tips of her toes and claimed her mouth. V pulled her closer until the bit of space between them had been filled. Excited by the warm, curvaceous body pressed against her taut nipples, she fed from the sweetness of Jewel’s mouth, drawing out each delicious sweep. But she wanted more. She wanted all of her.
Now, in one word, describe your first kiss.

Unknown Futures
Attacked as a young adult, Jewel is left scarred and alone. She applies to the 1Night Stand service, believing no one can see past her appearance to love her. But she doesn’t expect to be sent to a space station where her date could be any number of unusual alien species.
Flavia left everything behind to be one of five humans working for the Space Service space station. Extremely homesick, she is excited to learn she will be a guide to a woman from Earth visiting the station for a couple days. She is immediately drawn to the petite woman, seeing past her scars to her true inner beauty, stirring unforeseen desires.
Unfortunately, Jewel is there for a date which Flavia hasn’t been told about. Can she contain her lust and simply show her a good time? Or will she let her desire lead them into an unknown future?
