Sinking into Dialogue
How to Suck in your Reader and Leave Her Panting
Dialogue is the most overlooked and crucial part of erotica and erotic romance. Okay, a bunch of you are laughing, but it’s true. The mind is really the most erotic organ. Without involving the mind in the sex of a written work, but only for the value of the sex act alone, you have porn. Once the mind is being enticed, you have erotica or erotic romance. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have sex with a guy who is a piece of eye candy but has no sign of a brain. I prefer my men to have brains and brawn, and in that order.  Did I mention he has to have a sense of humor? I want a man who can engage in verbal foreplay way before the actual sexual act occurs.
Dialogue in erotic romance can be used in many different ways. There can be the use of the double entendre where the sexual connotation is there, but no actual graphic language is used. Please note the title of this blog. An example of the double entendre can be seen below in Rose, a romantic comedy, excerpted with the author, Bobbye Terry’s permission. This romance is not classified as erotic, but the sexual connotation is evident.:
“Women say I’m not as they first expect. Once I get to know them and allow them to see the real me, exposed, hiding nothing at all, I grow on them. The closer they get to me, the more they like the whole package. In fact they embrace it. I guess you can say I suck them in. Or maybe it’s just because I get so deep into them. But, most are very surprised at how much there really is to me and they open up. I don’t even have to pump them for…” He stared at her with the blank, innocent stare of a choir boy. “Information.”
He didn’t say one slang word for sex, not one truly inappropriate thing, but the heroine is soaking wet. That’s verbal foreplay, my friends.
Sometimes double entendre doesn’t work. It can be a turn-on for the character and the reader to hear what the lovers say while getting ready to have sex, like below from All for Lust, releasing through Turquoise Morning Press in June:
Phoebe opened the door. “Why, Collin. I never expected to see…”
He pushed her back in the room, shut the door behind him and pinned her up against the wall. “Don’t waste time with pleasantries.”
“How did you know where I lived?”
“Some things I make my business to find out. Especially when a woman makes it clear she wants sex every bit as much as I do.” He leaned into her, making full body contact and put his hand under her chin. “I have wanted to sink into you from the first minute I saw you behind that desk. Watching those pert little breasts, aching to rub them into hard nubs, thinking of that ***, only inches from the bottom of your skirt. How wet it would be as I played with your ***, sucked on you ‘til you moaned low in your throat….”
Here’s an example from Red Hot Lightning, now available from Turquoise Morning Press:
“If you call that a quickie, I want to do it again.”
His chest rocked hers as he laughed. “You will. But not until after the marathon. First, a little slow foreplay. I get a chance to explore those rosebud breasts and that tight ass. Roam my fingers around every inch of your body while you do the same to mine. You can stroke me and…”
Of course, there’s a lot more dialogue in these works, a lot of it naughty, but this isn’t a content-warning blog site and you get the drift anyway. Talk like your characters would. No two will talk exactly alike. They’ll all have their own style and way about them. Be true to them as you tell the story and don’t do or say anything they wouldn’t. Whatever a writer does, she should never carry on a lengthy conversation in the middle of sex. It makes me laugh just to think of it. I mean, how engaged can two lovers be if they can carry on a conversation then? Nope, by that time, all bets are off.

My Thoughts:

Doesn’t get better then sex during a tornado.  I know what you are thinking. Who has time for that?  Well hang on because Blown Away is going to show you just how very easy it was to get caught up in the storm of love and lust.
Loved this story. Althought I am sure if I was caught in a Tornado the last thing on my mind would be sex. But then again I guess some people deal with stress in different ways.I hope that Stromy brings these characters back soon… I want to know what happened after the pool……. (oops, can’t tell you anymore)

Red Hot Lightning

A Dirty Bits Short Story

Skye Miller is so tense, not even a full set of tennis can unwind her tight muscles—her tension heightened by a raging summer storm that grips the town. But a hot and sweaty set of tennis is not the physical exercise she craves, nor will the pounding rain erase her pain. Thank the sex gods above she remembers a possible remedy just up the street. And he’s already posed the invitation.

My Thoughts:
Skye is a girl in need and when she finds what she needs it is over just a little too quickly for me. I would have liked Skye’s encounter to last a little longer, promises were made but never pursued. I do have to say that it was a good quickie… and it leaves the door open for more stories of these characters.
I did enjoy Stormy’s story…

Interview with Dirty Bits Author Madison J Edward

Welcome to Dirty Bits week Madison.
I am so excited to have you here.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to sit down and answer a few questions.
I have to start off by saying I really enjoyed the two short stories of yours that I read, The Proposal and The Perfect Secretary.  Both were wonderful and very different from each other.
For the Love of Books: Madison, please tell us a little bit about yourself.  Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Madison: Yes, and no. Reading is my passion, and stories have always swirled around in my head. My husband told me for years to write a book, but I didn’t put pen to paper until January 2009. Now I wonder why it took so long.
FLB: As I said I above I loved The Proposal.  Cheri and Blake are so hot together.  I didn’t want this story to end.  Are we going to get to see them in a story in time in the future?  Do you think we should share any tidbits from the story?
Madison: I enjoyed writing about Cheri, and Blake – what can I say… LOVED him. Sends spicy shivers all over just thinking about him. I hadn’t thought about continuing their story, but now that you’ve planted a seed. Hmmmm.
Here’s a small excerpt:
Soft jazz filtered down the hall from the living room, but later on, it could just as easily be Metallica, or maybe even Van Halen as he pressed her naked body against the bank of windows overlooking the city and took her until she screamed out her release. Her sex tightened, and a wave of lust made her dizzy.
As if he could read her thoughts, which she sometimes wondered if he could, he pushed her onto the bed. She fell with a soft whoosh, her legs dangled over the side and a pillow skittered onto the floor.
“Your skin is like silk.” His palm skimmed her calf, moving upwards. “So smooth, so soft.”
Warm lips replaced his hand and slowly, ever so slowly he crept up the inside of her thigh, his breath hot against her skin. “I’ve dreamt about this. I’ve dreamt about you.”
Cheri clutched the satin duvet, waves of desire washing over her, drowning in her own sensuality. Her back arched when broad fingers slipped under the elastic of her panties, and circled the pierced, hooded bud that clamored for attention.
Kneeling before her, his fingers hooked the edge of the lacy scrap, and tugged it down her legs, and once cleared of her deadly shoes, tucked them in his pocket. She’d never gotten a pair of panties back from him, ever. Once, after two days of energy draining sex, and during a moment of lazy cuddling, she’d asked him what he did with them.
A small smile had crossed his firm lips, and as he’d buried his head between her splayed thighs, he told her he kept them in a very safe place. When his tongue has rasped through her slick folds and over her clit, she’d forgotten what she’d asked, and let her body spiral higher with each swipe of his talented tongue.
Her attention came back to the present when she felt his mouth blazing a trail of kisses up her inner thigh. Draping her legs over his shoulders he focused all his attention on her aching sex. Warm fingers slid into her, intimately probing, caressing. Spasms rippled through her midsection when his thumb unerringly found her sensitive bud, swirling over it before drawing the small distended nub into his mouth.
Nerve endings, which had lain dormant for a year, sprang to life. Grasping the covers of the bed with desperate hands, she bucked into his mouth, wanting more. He filled a void that no man had. She’d waited a lifetime for him, and would do anything for him. Anything to quench this overwhelming need eating at her soul.
FLB: The second story that I read of yours was The Perfect Secretary.  Oh man where do I get a job like this?  Again you left me wanting more, any chance we will get to see Seth, Troy or Sarah in the future?
Madison: The adventures do continue. ‘The Invitation’ is with my editor now, and ‘Taking Dictation’ is in the planning stages. Miss Adams is going to have her hands *wink* full for some time.
FLB: Madison, how do you come up with the ideas for your stories?
Madison: Everywhere. I hear a song, and a word phrase will stick with me, certain jobs lend to thinking, ‘What if?’ Sometimes, just as I’m drifting off to sleep, my muse wakes me up, and all you’ll hear is my husband calling out: “Where are you going now?” “Be right back. I have to write this down before I forget.”  I think all writers can empathize with that one.
FLB: Any current Works in Progress you want to share with us?  Any more Dirty Bits stories? *fingers crossed*
Madison: Yes. The two sequels to The Perfect Secretary, and I’m toying with a Poker series. Give a whole new definition to 5 card stud.
FLB: What do you find is the hardest part of being a writer?
Madison: Finding time. I work away from home, so all my writing is done in the evenings and weekends. As you know, family and friends can pull you in a million directions, and I reserve two nights a week for family/friends, and Sundays I always have family dinner where my sons, their wives and grandkids descend on our house for a noisy time.
FLB: Anything else you would like to add?
Madison: Thank you for interviewing me. I have one blatant plug. My first full length novel, According to Plan, is slated for release this July. All details will be on our website for Turquoise Morning Press, as well as my own blog www.whereromancelies.com
FLB: Last Question:  What did you think of Dirty Bits week?
Madison: I think it’s awesome. We have some talented writers at Sapphire Nights Books, and when our publisher said she had some ideas for naughty stories, we jumped on board. This venue will put our stories out there, and hopefully readers will check them out. They’re fun, outrageous, and of course – just a little bit dirty.
Huge Thank you to Madison again for her time and her wonderful stories. I will be posting reviews of both stories shortly after this interview.
Madison, how can the readers find out more about you? Website? Facebook? Twitter?

My Thoughts:
It was the job of her dream, and her bosses where to die for gorgeous.  But when he calls her into her office and tells her she needs to be punished.  Sarah fears she has lost her job after 6 very short months. She is willing to do anything to keep the job of her dreams.
The secretary and the boss, we all know the story but Madison takes it up a notch for us.  There is more that meets the eye in this story and Sarah doesn’t know what she is in for until she is already in it.  I really enjoyed this story and hope that we get to see more of Sarah and her bosses.
Dirty little tidbit for you:
Fascinated at what she could be doing, he almost laughed out loud as she bunched her skirt up, and fitting a tiny apparatus on her finger, began to massage…………….

My thoughts:

Cheri and Blake are so Hot together it is almost wrong.  But beyond the hotness of their interaction is the underlining story of love and the fear that one may not return the other love.  I have to say I wanted more. I didn’t want this story to end. I want to know more about Blake and Cheri.  What happens to them in the future…

Dirty little tidbit:
“You know that by wearing my gift tonight, you’ve agreed to the terms.  There is no turning back, Cheri”

My Thoughts:
Steven is a guy who is not afraid of sex or pushing the envelope.  But is his kinda girlfriend (or is she a friend with benefits?) willing to go the distance with him? Guess he is going to find out.
I enjoyed this story of a little three-way.  Although it was not my favorite of the 10 books I read. I would have like to see a little more interaction between the female characters.  It was kinda of a wham-bam thank you ladies story. It was still a fun story and J.A. left the door open to continue the story line.

Did you know that one + one can equal three?  Well jump in to this story to find out just how easy it is to get that answer.
Dirty little tidbit for you:

“My turn to watch.” she countered. “I like to watch”

Rebuild My World by Cheryl Norman

More than anything, Taylor Drake wants her life back. She’s returned to her family home, suffering from the agoraphobia that has plagued her since she was brutally attacked in her apartment. Once a confident and successful photographer, she now cowers behind closed doors with a loaded pistol. She fears her attacker will find her and finish the job.
The last assignment chief deputy Adam Gillespie wants is to babysit the spoiled celebrity Taylor. He blames her father for his family’s financial ruin; and her brother, Wil Drake, is the incumbent candidate for Foster County sheriff, Adam’s dream job. Wil is out of town, though, so Adam can’t afford to let anything happen to the sheriff’s sister. Complications arise when someone murders the man he arrests for stalking her.
Adam learns things aren’t as they first seem. Taylor is hardly a pampered prima donna, rather a warm, intelligent, yet troubled woman whom he grows to love. Also, there are holes in the history of the feud between their families that need filling in. He has to reconcile the feud or any future with Taylor is doomed. But first he must stop the cunning killer who wants her dead.

Categories: Fiction, Romance, Romantic Suspense, Contemporary
Length: Novel, 258 pages (print); 63,000 words
My thoughts:
Cheryl does a wonderful job of showing us how fear can run out life if we let it.  But there is one thing stronger then fear and that is love. The only question is are you strong enough to step up and grab it or would you shy away and live in fear for the rest of your life.
This is the battle that Taylor has to go through in this book.  She must fight everyday to just function.  Never really knowing if the danger she fears will find her or if she is truly safe.  Taylor’s world changes the moment Adam steps on her front porch to check up on her.  There is just something about Adam that makes her feel safe and that scares her.  But will Adam be therefore her when it matters or will he turn is back on her.
If you enjoy a good love story along with suspense then I would highly recommend you pick up this book.

Silent Partner by Renee Vicent

Grayson Anders has it all. He’s the co-owner of a happening nightclub in downtown Boston, he’s wealthy, and women practically throw themselves at his feet the moment he steps on the dance floor. But profiting from these obvious benefits is not his desire. His passion is dancing and he wants nothing more than to find the perfect dance partner.

Chloe LaRoche is a talented artist, but a failing entrepreneur. Her once thriving studio is now on the brink of foreclosure and unless she paints the next Van Gogh Starry Night, she’ll have to cut her losses and say goodbye to her quaint little gallery. Fearing her career is at an end, she drags herself to the local hotspot, determined to drown her worries in the bottom of a shot glass. At least that was the plan…until she lays eyes on a wickedly sexy, swarthy dancer in the club—Grayson Anders.

Unable to resist, Chloe finds herself in Grayson’s arms, indulging on a passionate, out-of-control, one night stand. And when both awaken the next morning, they are consumed with inspiration.

Grayson finds his perfect dance partner and Chloe finally finds her muse. But will her secret destroy both their dreams?

My Thoughts:

Grayson is on the search for the perfect partner. And at long last he finds her.  Grayson doesn’t waste any time getting up close and personal with her.  But when he wakes the next morning she is gone.  Determined to track her down, Grayson sets out on the town. Only problem he doesn’t know her name.  How do you track down someone you don’t know anything about?   But what is Grayson to do when he does track her down only to learn that there is something about her that she didn’t share with him.
Chloe had never imaging that her night of drowning her sorrows would lead to the best night of her life.  But as morning draws near she knows she needs to leave.  This was just one night, not for the rest of her life.  Chloe finally makes it back to her apartment, daydreaming about the man she just left.  When hands close around her waist she jumps only to turn to find him there, in her apartment. How did he find her?  She doesn’t have time to question, next thing she knows he is kissing her.
Chloe is scared when she finally reveals her secret to Grayson. And he reacts the exact way she believed and hoped he would not.  Now alone, Chloe realized that no one will ever want her.  She is too damaged.
I really enjoyed this story.  It is a great example of the struggle that people have with another person’s disability.  Grayson does a lot of growing in the story. But whether it is enough for him to win Chloe’s trust back is questionable.   Chloe is so strong in this story. She has learned to adapt to the world she use to live in.  But is she strong enough to trust and open her heart to anyone.
If you want to learn what happens with Grayson and Chloe you will have to check out Silent Partner by Renee Vincent.
