Interview with Liz Borino

Welcome to For the Love of Books Liz. Thank you for stopping by to answer a few questions.

For the Love of Books: Tell us a little about your 1st book Expectations:

Liz: Expectations depicts the struggle between what we desire for ourselves and our familiar obligations. This is personified by Chris and Matt Taylor, identical twins who are trying to win their overbearing father’s approval and acquire their trust funds. Their best friend and roommate, Aiden O’Boyle, left his family behind in Ireland to pursue a career in dance.
Robert Taylor, Matt and Chris’s father has set certain conditions that must be met in order for them to receive their trust funds. Matt must work at a job he hates while struggling with alcoholism. Chris has to deny his own desires and deep love for Aiden, to get married to Matt’s girlfriend. All the while, their father continues to use extreme measures to ensure his sons’ compliance. Will they learn to lean on each other and discover their strength or succumb to their father’s will?

FLB: How did you come up with this story?

Liz: I adore writing stories about brothers and I find the twin connection fascinating. But this story came from reading The Secret and wondering, is there a downside to living the life of your dreams?

FLB:  What was the hardest part about writing Expectations?

Liz: Um sex scenes between Chris and Aiden. What? They both had to be hard…oh not what you meant. No, seriously, that took a little education from a bisexual man.

FLB:  In book 2 What Money Can’t Buy we find the guys (Chris, Aiden & Matt) in a pretty good place waiting for babies.  But that doesn’t last very long.  Tell us a little more about what we can expect in What Money Can’t Buy.

Liz: Of course I can’t let them stay in good places for long! Carley (Matt’s girlfriend) is on bed rest and so moody. Robert has a female nurse who causes all sorts of trouble. Aiden falls dancing and gets injured, thus threatening his career. So, no good places. J

FLB: What is up next for Chris, Aiden, Matt and the gang?

Liz: Well, A Change of Heart is probably going to focus more heavily on Matt’s story. I think that’s as much as I can say without giving too much away.

FLB: Have you always wanted to be an author?

Liz: It seemed the sanest way to deal with the voices in my head. And hey I could get paid! Wait, that’s a myth I think. Authors are paid in reviews. Until we get enough of those to warrant money.

FLB: What is the best piece of advice you can give any budding new author?

Liz: If you can stop, do. Only pursue this if you can’t do anything else. It’s a lot of heart break if you can just go to a 9-5.

FLB: What are your writing rituals?  Anything you have to have when writing?

Liz: No rituals, actually. I write when I wake up, so Snapple.

FLB: Do you have plans for more books after you are done telling Chris, Matt & Aiden’s stories?

Liz: What are plans?

FLB: Anything else you would like to add?

Liz: Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear from you in the comments or over at my fan page. http://www.facebook.com/lizborino

If you purchase What Money Can’t Buy, I’ll mail you a signed postcard. Thanks, Kelly!

FLB: Thank you so much Liz again for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down with me and talk about your books.

Guest Blog by Gina Gordan author of His Five Favorite Lines

Please Welcome Gina Gordon author of Her Five Favorite Words to For the Love of Books. Gina stopped by to share a little about writing a sequel.   After Gina’s guest blog we will be giving away a copy of her book His Five Favorite Lines

Take it away Gina…

When To Write A Sequel
When I decided to write a sequel to Her Five Favorite Words, I had one main concern–I needed to stay true to my characters. In the first story, Becca and Jordan were stuck in the right place, at the right time, with the right phobia. They were supposed to be a one-time elevator romp. But in the end, this cute couple had some unfinished business.
As a writer, I had to decide between letting my characters run free for another book or quitting while I was ahead. When is a sequel a good idea and when is it just too much? In the case of Becca and Jordan, I know I made the right decision.
I didn’t want to put Becca and Jordan into a frivolous sexual situation nor did I want to compromise the light-hearted ending of the first story. With my idea in hand, I set out to write His Five Favorite Lines, a sequel that needed to have the same feel as the first story but also revealed a little more of the emotional make-up of the characters.
I’m a big fan of books that tell the story from both the hero and the heroine’s point of view. So this time, we get to hear Jordan’s side of the story. Readers can finally learn about what was going on in his mind during their elevator encounter and his progression to a man who realizes the girl from the coffee shop might be a little more than just a piece of ass.
His Five Favorite Lines demonstrates the same sexual chemistry, the same quit-witted banter and of course, a week-long build up to some super-hot office sex.  This time around, Becca and Jordan still haven’t quite found their happily ever after, but who’s to say there won’t be a sequel to the sequel.
Gina Gordon is an erotic romance writer living in Ontario, Canada. Her newest release, His Five Favorite Lines, is available now from Breathless Press. Find out more about Gina at www.ginagordon.net

A little cover love.

Her Five Favorite Words

Becca always starts her day sipping a latte and watching the piping hot Mr. Sexy. When they get stuck together in an elevator, it only takes a minute for Becca’s panic attack to take over. What she needs is to focus on something else. Something hot. Something dirty. Good thing Mr. Sexy knows a thing or two about distraction.

What Money Can’t Buy (bk 2) by Liz Borino

What Money Can’t Buy, the sequel to Expectations, finds the two couples, Chris and Aiden and Matt and Carley, eagerly anticipating parenthood. However, their personal struggles continue. Though Matt overcame his dependency on alcohol, new temptations present themselves. And with Carley on bed rest, these temptations put a greater strain on their relationship. Chris continues to deal with issues regarding his father. These issues increase with greater proximity. When tragedy strikes, the best and worst in everyone is revealed. Can they stick together, or will their reactions tear them apart?

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this story.  We picked up where we left off in Expectations with the twins having to take care of their ill father.  So much is going on in this story.  Chris and Aiden are waiting for the babies to arrive, but while they wait tragedy strikes again.  Aiden gets hurt.  These two have such a wonderfully strong relationship and seem to be able to work through any problem by being open and honest with each other.  Chris and Aiden go on a roller coaster ride in this book that will test their relationship like never before.  But I do believe they will come out the other side stronger than ever.

Matt is awaiting the birth of his baby also. But unlike his twin and Aiden, Matt is not open and honest with his girlfriend.  Both Matt and Carley hide their feeling and fears from each other to the point that you don’t know if they will ever be able to get back to a happy place.

I did really enjoy this story.  I think that I liked this book more than Expectations merely for the fact that I felt more connected to the characters.  I know their back stories and was rooting for them the whole way through this book.  I can’t wait for the next book to see what Liz has in store for these characters.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed this story.  But I do have to let you know that there is a male/male love story in this book.  So if you are offended by that you may want to stop here.  If you are not please read on and I hope you will enjoy Expectations.

Chris and Matt are twins and come from a family that has many expectations on the boys.  But if these expectations are met the twins will become very, very rich.  They twins may want the money, but they are anything but happy with what they have to do to get it.

Aiden has been very good friends to both Chris & Matt for the last seven years.  But when they move in together after college things start to change between Aiden and Chris.  Chris and Aiden will be tested in this story; if their relationship can handle this test I think that they can handle anything.

Matt on the other handle is the creator of his own demons.  Matt has to struggle to come to terms with himself before he can help anyone else.  And Chris will need him more than ever before in this story.

This was a great story of each of these characters finding out who they are and what they really want out of life and putting aside everyone else Expectations.  I really enjoyed Expectations and I am looking forward to book 2 What Money Can’t Buy.

SINsational Saturday Series

I have changed my Fantastic Friday to SINsational Saturday Series…….. So here ya go.
Each week I am going to share a book series with you. Most will be series that I have read. Some will be series that I want to read.  Hope you enjoy.  Last week we kicked this off with Jennifer Lyon’s Wing Slayer Hunter Series.  This week I went Sci-fi with Gini Koch’s Katherine “Kitty” Katt Series.

Book 1-Touched by an Alien

How can a sexy marketing manager join forces with an Alpha Centauri male in Armani to save the planet-using hairspray, a Mont Blanc pen, and rock n’ roll?
Easy…
She’s Touched by an Alien

Marketing manager Katherine “Kitty” Katt steps into the middle of what appears to be a domestic dispute turned ugly. And it only gets uglier when the man turns into a winged monster, straight out of a grade-Z horror movie, and goes on a killing spree. Though Kitty should probably run away, she springs into action to take the monster down.
In the middle of the chaos a handsome hunk named Jeff Martini appears, sent by the “agency” to perform crowd control. He’s Kitty’s kind of guy, no matter what planet he’s from. And from now on, for Kitty, things are going to be sexy, dangerous, wild, and out of this world.

Book 2 –Alien Tango

It’s been five months since marketing manager Katherine “Kitty” Katt started working with the aliens from Alpha Centauri, and she and Jeff Martini are getting closer. But when an experimental spacecraft is mysteriously returned to the Kennedy Space Center, Kitty and the rest of her team are called in to investigate. Now the team must survive murderous attacks, remove a space entity from a group of astronauts, and avoid an unhinged woman with a serious crush on Kitty’s high school boyfriend. And that’s all before evil masterminds decide Kitty’s extermination is vital.

Book 3- Alien in the Family

Super-Being Exterminator Kitty Katt and the Alpha Centaurian she loves, Jeff Martini, should be finalizing their wedding plans. But that was before she discovers Jeff is in line to become Emperor back on his home world. Kitty knows she is everything a royal family wouldn’t approve of, and is bracing herself for the worst. As it turns out, the royal family is just the beginning. Especially when extraterrestrial Amazonian terrorists are determined to start and end Kitty and Jeff’s nuptial festivities with a bang.

Book 4- Alien Proliferation

A new set of conspiracies, old enemies, and a dangerous new drug being tested on unwilling subjects are more than enough to deal with, but new parents Jeff and Kitty Martini have an even bigger problem — the bad guys want their newborn baby.

Release date Dec 2011

Book 5- Alien Diplomacy

Giveaway & Guest Blog by Holden Granger

Please Welcome Holden Granger to For the Love of Books.  Holden is going to talk to us a bit about writing Erotica and then we are going to do a giveaway of the book The Strength To Submit.

Take it away Holden:

1.       Why I Write Erotica

I love writing about sex for the pure challenge of it. I look at writing as a means of transporting the reader into another life, and using that vantage point to allow them to look back at their own. As such, I believe the foundation of any story needs to be a universal experience. The best stories allow us to identify with the characters though one of these experiences.  Thrillers do this with fear; a very strong and primitive emotion. I write about lust, an emotion perhaps as strong as fear and just as primitive. A love story may require a full novel to explore its depths, while lust can be delightfully simple.

While lust can be simple, writing about sex is not. There are only a few experiences we almost all face. Death is one, but returning eye-witnesses are rare. Sex, on the other hand, impacts virtually every life. Even the celibate are reacting to this powerful, instinctive drive. In writing about sex, the author walks a narrow wire. On the one hand, it must be exciting and arousing (no one wants a boring sex scene). On the other, even as a fantasy it has to approximate realism. The reader must be able to “buy in” to the moment and any wildly unrealistic details will distract the reader.

I thought writing erotica would be easy. Instead it has consistently challenged me as a writer.  Taking an experience universally experienced and fantasized about, while introducing strong characters and plots, has been a tremendous opportunity. I am deeply grateful to Breathless Press for giving me that chance, and I hope that my readers enjoy my efforts!

2.       The Strength to Submit – The Author’s View

One of the first lessons I learned in researching Bondage and Discipline was that it is the “submissive” or “sub” that needs to have the greater strength of character in many ways. Think for a moment of the strength required to strip away every instinctive desire for power in a relationship.  At the same time there seems to be a great freedom that comes with letting go and placing oneself completely into the power of another.

I was also intrigued with the fact that it is often those who are very powerful individuals in their public lives that crave the release of control involved in placing themselves under the power of another.  This gave me the launching point for my story, The Strength to Submit.  For me, stories come from answering a “What if?” question. In this case the question was; what if a powerful woman executive opened herself up to experiencing discipline from a competitor?

I wanted to explore how that might happen, especially if she had to overcome her own fears and doubts along the way. The motives and internal struggles are what made this story interesting to write, and I hope, interesting to read.  The steamy conclusion had to spring from triumphs over these obstacles, as well as providing satisfying growth for the character.  The Strength to Submit is my attempt to explore light bondage and discipline from the point of view of a strong heroine. I hope you all enjoy it!

Excerpt

She arrived at the morning session and scanned the room, surprising herself when she felt a twinge of disappointment that Cade was nowhere to be seen. She was early enough to get a seat in the back row, grabbing a glass of orange juice and skipping the offered muffins as she went. She noticed a black leather portfolio on the seat next to hers. The hotel had gone all-out for this conference: each table was wrapped across the front and top with white cloth, giving her a chance to ease off her heels and stretch her toes on the carpet. She studied the day’s agenda in front of her while the speaker began to settle the crowd.

“It must be destiny!” a voice said from beside her.

Cade was sliding into the seat next to her. The notebook was his. Caitlyn felt her face flush slightly. She moved to get up but found her feet clumsy as she tried to get her shoes on again.

“I don’t think so…” she started.

“Oh, relax. I’m not going to bother you,” Cade said with a chuckle. “Besides, we’re starting.”

With that, the graying and pudgy speaker began his presentation on the estimated impact of the economic environment on government defense purchasing. Five seconds in and already she was bored. She heard Cade scratching on his notebook. A moment later, he stopped and tapped his pen on it.

Caitlyn sat staring straight ahead. Again the tapping came from beside her; it sounded impatient this time. She glanced over. Cade looked at her and inclined his head to the page in front of him.

Have you thought about what I said last night? he had written.

This might relieve the boredom. She took out her own pen and wrote on the agenda in front of her. A little, she wrote.

Are you scared? he asked on the page.

Caitlyn suppressed a snort. Nothing you can do would scare me, she added to the running dialogue, tapping the page for emphasis.

Really? Perhaps a challenge, then?

She looked at him; his smile was mocking her. She paused and he wrote again.

Sure you’re not scared?

What the hell? Okay, let’s see what you’ve got.

Good, we’ll talk at lunch.

For the rest of the morning meeting her thoughts raced. She wondered what she’d gotten herself into and decided to bail and changed her mind a dozen times. She couldn’t deny the tingle between her legs. It was all harmless fun, she finally decided; besides, she could turn the tables and have him in the palm of her hand. It was a challenge she found she couldn’t resist.

Giveaway will be open until July 7th

Interview with Casey Sheridan

Hi Casey.  Welcome to my blog For the Love of Books.  I am honored that you took time out of your busy schedule to stop by, answer a few questions and talk about your new story Ruby Red Metallic.
Casey: Thanks so much for having me here!
For the Love of Books:  So please tell us a little about yourself:
Casey: I never know what to say when someone asks me that. LOL
I write erotica and erotic romance. I live in the upper Midwest of the US. I have two cats. I love to read and write, and I collect Hot Wheels cars.
FLB:  How did you get into writing? And when did you decide to start writing Erotic?
Casey: I started writing when I was about nine years old, I think; mostly in a journal type of thing. I didn’t started writing stories until I around thirteen.
I started writing Erotica four or five years ago on a dare from a friend.
FLB:  Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Casey: I’ve always written but never thought of it as a career before, not until I started writing Erotica.
FLB:  I always want to know what writers have in their TBR (to be read) pile.  Tell us what you have in yours or what book you are looking forward to reading next?
Casey: Right now I’m reading Silent Partner by Renee Vincent. Other books in my TBR pile are Unwrap Me by Savannah Chase, A Bit of Rough by Lucy Felthouse, Negligee Behavior by Shelli Stevens, The Darkest Passion by Gena Showalter, The Last Suppers by Diane Mott Davidson, The Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick, and Trading Up by Brindle Chase.  I plan on reading as many as I can while I’m on vacation for two weeks.
FLB: In the Story Ruby Red Metallic Alaina knows her cars.  Are you a car buff?
Casey: Actually, no I’m not. I don’t know anything about cars other than how to drive them and put gas in the tank. But I do know a nice car when I see it.
FLB: How did you come up with the idea for Ruby Red Metallic?
Casey: A very close friend of mine suggested I do a story that featured a car. It took me quite some time to come up with the theme and plot because, like I said, I’m not really a car buff.
FLB:  Do you think we should share a snippet of the story for the readers?
Casey: I’d be happy too!
The door burst open and slammed against the wall. A big burly man wearing a stained apron charged into the men’s room. “What’s going on in here?” he thundered, his voice bouncing off the tiled walls.
Alaina feigned innocence. “This pervert is exposing himself to me,” she whimpered, eyes widening. “I’m so embarrassed. I just want to get out of here!”
She bolted out the door, taking one last quick look at the middle-aged man before heading out of the restaurant as fast as she could. He had a look of utter shock on his features, his mouth gaped open, and he still held his dick in his hands, his pants in a heap around his ankles.
Alaina pulled the key from her hidden pocket, hopped into the Viper, and started its engine. As she pulled away, both men rushed through the door of the diner. The man had managed to get his pants up before leaving the men’s room, but his shirt was still untucked.
FLB:  Well we see any more of Alaina or Scott in the future?
Casey: I haven’t made any concrete decision on that, yet. I have thought about it, but there are other stories that are screaming to get out. So, we’ll see.
FLB: can you tell us what is next for you?  Any current work in progress you would like to share?
Casey: Right now, I’m working on a contemporary erotic romance titled Number 69. I’m approximately half-way through writing it. It’s about a woman who meets a hot doctor at an exclusive party.
FLB:  If the readers want to find out more about you where can they find you?
Again thank you Casey for sitting down and answering some questions.   I really enjoyed your story.
Casey: Thank you and thanks again for having me. It was a lot of fun!
