Interview with Young Adult Author Charlotte Blackwell

Hi Charlotte, Welcome to For the Love Books Blog.  I am excited to say you are my first young adult author I have had on my blog.  Thank you for taking time out of your very busy schedule to sit down and answer some questions.
Charlotte Blackwell: Thank you so much for having me. I am very excited for this opportunity to introduce myself to your followers and share a little with all of you.
For the Love of Books: Please tell us a little about yourself.
CB: Well I am a stay at home mother of three and been married to the love of my life for six years now. I home school my eldest daughter and began to write in my free time. I believe I finally found something I love to do and in turn found myself through my writing.
FLB: I love the story you told of the day you were born.  You dad must have been very stressed out.
CB: There hasn’t been many times I saw my father stress out and knowing him I assume that he was better off being at the race track with my siblings. If he were at the hospital I think my mom would have got security to remove him for being so manic. So driving stock cars the day I was born was a good thing for everyone sanity.
FLB: Tell us about your 1st book Immortal Embrace in your Embrace Series. Immortal Embrace has a release date of July 1st (will add cover pix when posting)
CB: This is Sophia’s story, a story of a girl who finds herself, love and everlasting friendship. The excitement of this story wraps mortals, vampires, witches, and shape shifters all into a romantic tale of young love, friendship, the meaning of family. The story of a girl who tries to finds herself when she thought it was all lost.
This book really sets the stage for the rest of the series. Readers get to meet the characters, get to know them and even fall in love with a few of them.
FLB:  Book 2 in your series is Forbidden Embrace (will add cover pix when posting) is scheduled for release on September 1st.  Please tell us what we can look forward too
CB: I don’t want to give away too much, but book two has a lot more action than the first book, along with some pretty big discoveries for the characters. Readers get to cheer on the characters they have grown attached too and even get to know some secondary characters a little better.
FLB: Book 3 is Mystic Embrace (will add cover when posting) is scheduled for release on November 1st.  Tell us about Mystic Embrace.
CB: Book three takes us to a different point of view. In Mystic Embrace the reader gets to see life through Ebony’s eyes (one of the witches). Things really get turned upside down for her and the rest of the characters. The reader will join the Embrace characters as they graduate high school and move on to the next phase of their lives, or at least we hope.
FLB: How does it feel to have three books released so close together?
CB: It’s pretty exciting. I know I hate having to wait for the next book in a series. I like reading them back to back, this will give my readers a chance to really get into the story right away.
FLB: Are we going to see more books in the Embrace Series?
CB: I hope to share many more books in this series. I have a very big story building and I think it will be great to not only follow the characters through high school, but life as well.
FLB: If yes, can you tell us what is next?
CB: I don’t want to give away too much, but Mystic Embrace (book 3) the characters go through some pretty big life changing events. The fourth book in the series will show us where those events have lead them. I also want to do a book giving the antagonists a voice and sharing their story too. Then I have a Book of Shadows planned, this will be a companion book. Just like the ones the witches (Ebony and Eliza) have. The reader will get a break down on the characters some we have met and some we have not. It will also include the spells and potions the witches use. This one might take some time though it is very detailed.
FLB: Have you always wanted to be an author?
CB: I never even thought it was a possibility. I am the type to write everything down, but never went any further than that. I actually despised reading up to a few years ago when my daughter introduced me to some of her books. Now I always have a book or my e-reader in hand. I can’t believe all I missed by not reading and finding my calling sooner.
FLB: Do you plan to keep writing young adult books or do you plan to jump to adult books?
CB:I am slowly working on an adult romance and also have plans for a historical/sci-fi and a science fiction. I’m still not sure if the last two will be adult or YA. YA is defiantly where my passion lays, so I am leaning towards that. I also had a short horror that was published under a pen name that was very adult. It is no longer available for purchase and I only wrote it to expand on my skills.
FLB: What do you have in your to be read pile that you can’t wait to jump into?
CB: Where do I begin? There’s so many in my TBR pile right now. The Aaron’s Kiss series by Kathi S. Barton, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (No I haven’t read them yet…LOL), Darkness Rising series and the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong, Deal with the Devil (part one) by J. Gunnar Grey and Salem Moon by Scarlet Black. I am so far behind on my reading right now and need to take a month off to read a little…or a lot.
FLB:  Is there anything else that you would like to share?
CB: I feel like one of the luckiest women in the world. I have found what I love to do and am so happy to have the chance to share it with others. I still find it hard to believe that people want to read my books and hope that they enjoy them and want to continue to read them. Thank you to all the readers out there that have given me this chance.
FLB: Thank you Charlotte for stopping by my blog and talk to me about your new series.  I really enjoyed your first book and am looking forward to reading the next two.
CB: Thank you so much for having me here. I can’t wait to read your review and would love the chance to discuss my books with you again or even on a more personal level.

The excitement of this story wraps mortals, vampires, witches, and shape shifters all into a romantic tale of young love, friendship, the meaning of family. The story of a girl who tries to finds herself when she thought it was all lost.

My Daughters Review:
Immortal Embrace is a forbidden love story. You definitely feel a connection with the characters, and the setting is described in a way that you can know it’s beauty but still be able to create the images in our own head. Blackwell’s book as a Twilight flare but with a bite of a twist.

My Daughter said that she enjoyed this story and is looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Interview with Jacquelyn Frank and Giveaway

For the Love of Books is excited to welcome the Wonderful Jacquelyn Frank to the blog today.

A little more about Jacki:
Jacquelyn Frank is the New York Times bestselling author of Seduce Me in Dreams, the Nightwalkers series (Jacob, Gideon, Elijah, Damien, andNoah), the Shadowdwellers novels (Ecstasy, Rapture, and Pleasure), and the Gatherers novels (Hunting Julian and Stealing Katherine). She lives in North Carolina and has been writing romantic fiction ever since she picked up her first teen romance at age thirteen.

Jacki, Welcome to For the Love of Books.  Thank you so very much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to sit down with me and answer a few questions.

For the Love of Books:  Your newest book Seduce Me In Flames is book 2 in your Three World Series.  Please tell us a little about it.
Jacquelyn Frank: Seduce Me in Flames brings us back to the adventures of the Interplanetary Militia in the Three Worlds universe. Rush “Ender” Blakely is part of the ETF, an Extreme Tactics Force, that aids in policing these worlds, helps in keeping the peace and seeing that everyone lives a reasonably happy existence. But when the Emperor of Allay dies, and a culture threatens to unravel, Ender finds himself in an impossible situation. He is cut off from his team with traitors amongst him, he is forced to rely only on his ETF training and Tarian heritage to protect the princess from those who would see her killed. All the while he is hiding his own secret that once exposed could threaten all that he holds dear.

FLB: How did you come up with the idea for the Three World Series?
JFIt may sound ironic, but I came up with the idea for Seduce me in Dreams from a dream.  I saw a very powerful military man on a cold space platform having a vision of a woman that would somehow be his destiny. When I woke up, I started to write commander Bronse Chapel’s story. His team followed and then the adventure began! That’s how the Three Worlds Series came to life.

FLB: When did you know you wanted to become a writer?
JF: Well, the bug first bit me when I was a teenager. 13 years old. I hated the lameness of the teen romances of the time and set out to do a better job.

FLB: Some writers have writing rituals.  What are some of your rituals?
JF: I wouldn’t say that I have any kind of a ritual per say. But I do need a certain type of environment to get any work done. I can’t write if there are distractions in the house and I have to have my MUSIC!  I make up a playlist for every new book depending on what I need to motivate me.

FLB: Let’s talk Adam for a minute.  Adam is book 6 in your Nightwalker series and can I say I can’t wait to read it.  I know you get asked this a lot.  Is Adam the last in this series or do you have more Nightwalker books planned?
JFThat is the Million Dollar Question, my dear. I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you. 😛

FLB: One more burning question about your series.  Are there plans for more JAX books?
JF: Last I heard, yep! Working on one now. Of course, anything and everything can and will change in the publishing world, so I make no promises!

FLB: What are you currently working on?  Anything you want to share about?
JF: I am currently working on a JAX title. I think. LOL! If this works out it will be a follow up to The Phoenix Project from the NOCTURNAL anthology. But refer to my caveat in the previous question!

FLB: What is the best piece of advice you have received about becoming a writer?
JF: Don’t read your own reviews!

FLB: This is a real simple question.  How are the kittens?
JF: The Kittens are great! They are 14 weeks old now and into everything but mommy loves them. I have recently rescued 4 more feral kittens that I plan to take care of till they are ready to be adopted.

FLB:  Thank you, Jacquelyn again for letting me take up some of your time, I know that you are hard at work on your next novel. Also a Huge Thank you to Natalie for helping me coordinate all of this.

So Jacquelyn what do you say about giving away a copy of your newest release Seduce Me In Flames to one of the commenter’s?
JF: Yes, absolutely as soon as I get them.

Taming Rowan by Suzanne Barrett

Taming Rowan
Suzanne Barrett
A Contemporary Romance Novel.

Karin Williams’ devastatingly handsome project officer has a boulder-sized chip on his shoulder. Rowan Marsden expected a male engineer and he’s not giving Karin an inch. Working conditions are…tense. Even…worse, she must share on-site accommodations with the sexy Brit who she fears will break her heart. What’s a girl to do?

If Rowan had his way, he’d never work with a woman. Yet as Karin demonstrates her expertise on the job, he cannot deny his growing respect for her–or his desire. He wants the passion she offers, but not the commitment. Until a horrendous accident at the project site threatens Karin’s life, and proves that even a wounded man is destined to love….

Ghost reviewers thoughts:
I enjoyed this book!    Rowan is a frustrating, handsome man who has been burned by his first marriage.    And he is not looking forward to delving into another serious relationship anytime soon.  With a nasty reputation about not working well with women, imagine his disdain when a female is assigned to his construction project.    In walks intelligent, sexy Karin looking to prove herself more than capable of managing the project and managing Rowan at the same time.   She can give Rowan a run  Rowan is torn by his personal feelings that keep getting in the way of his stone cold attitude and the sexual tension between him and Karin.     He also has made it clear that there will be no commitment, just a fun interlude during the project.   Karin is torn between her feelings for Rowan and knowing that their relationship will never turn into a commitment.   As the project continues,  a horrible miscalculation happens and an accident leaves Karin injured, in hospital, and eventually recuperating at Rowan’s family estate.    As she is healing, she has made up her mind it is time to leave England and Rowan behind.    However, in the end Rowan realizes that his feelings for Karin are more than just casual and convinces her to marry him on the Estate.

If there is anything Tristan Adam Hargrove, fourth Marquis of Moreland, has learned to avoid, it’s scandal. My Thoughts:

I don’t read many mystery novels.  So when I was approached by David I decided to give it a try.  I can’t say that I loved this book.  It was just okay for me. I am thinking that it is mostly because this is not a genre that I truly enjoy.  But please if you enjoy a good mystery novel take the time to check David out.

Guest Blogger Kathleen Gerard Author of In Transit

Kathleen Gerard author of In Transit stopped by to talk to us about her inspriration for her book.

Take it away Kathleen,

Ordinary People Who Carry a Badge

I’ve always loved cop shows on TV and police procedural novels. Therefore, it’s not surprising that my novel, IN TRANSIT, would center on the world and lifestyles of police officers. I am intrigued with people who choose law enforcement for their careers. Yet before one of my closest friends (whom I’ve known since high school) set out and became a New York City Transit Police Officer, I had this notion that NYPD cops lived in a state of high-drama and excitement by fighting “the bad guys.” Whenever I tried to get my friend to talk about life on the force (I was always goading her for details and dirt), she was very tight-lipped and downplayed the importance and perils of her job. She was more willing to share the laughs she’d had with coworkers and the pranks they’d pulled, rather than what it was really like to fight crime in The Big Apple.

That’s when I came to realize that police work is often over-dramatized and sensationalized in books and on TV. The reality is that those who carry the badge, day-in and day-out, are just ordinary people who have passions, hopes, fears, flaws and insecurities like everyone else. Statistics show that, over the course of entire careers, the majority of police officers in this country never draw their weapons or have an inciting incident. That’s why personal dynamics and the psychology of those who wear the NYPD uniform became as intriguing to me as the details surrounding police work. And that’s why I wanted to creatively explore the “ordinary” aspects of those who carry the badge when I wrote IN TRANSIT – the story of a 20-something “Jersey Girl” who becomes a woman-in-jeopardy once assigned to the NYPD Transit Squad.

Have you ever had your preconceptions shattered? Have you ever thought something or someone was one way, but he/she or it turned out to be completely different than the way you had imagined? Which was better – your notion of the truth or the truth itself? Please share your stories with us.

Can a rookie cop survive the men who cross her path in the NYPD?

When a psychic in a shopping mall tells Rita Del Vecchio that she is “destined for greatness,” and she will “marry a man in uniform,” the restless, wet-behind-the-ears, 22 year-old decides to finally take control of her life. Rita sets out on a quest to become a New York City Police Officer. But can a spry, feisty, single woman thrive in the gritty world of New York’s Finest?
Leaving behind the suburbs of New Jersey and a job as an under-tipped waitress, Rita Del Vecchio hangs up her apron and ballet slippers for a bullet-proof vest. But will she wear it? And if she does, will it protect her on the mean streets of Manhattan? Can it also protect her from Cupid’s arrows if they should land amiss?
Rita is assigned to the New York City Transit Police Squad and gets more than she bargained for. Riding the Lexington Avenue Subway Line, Rita winds up meeting not one man in uniform, but many. Whom will she love?
IN TRANSIT combines romance and suspense. This woman-in-jeopardy story delves into the ordinary lives of NYPD career cops and how their fates are determined by people who hold secrets as dark and as labyrinth-like as the New York City Subway System

My thoughts:

First I want to thank Devyn for sending me Darkness Descending for early review.  And no I am not just being nice Devyn when I say “Darkness Descending SO DOESN’T suck!!!!”

Next, I was sucked into this book just by reading the prologue. Therefore I would like to share it with you:

Enjoy:

Prologue
This is a tale that has been told time and time again; the battle of good versus evil, light versus dark.
There are as many versions as there are stars in the sky.
And it’s all true.
The story, however, is only halftold.
Thousands of years ago, one of the most favored archangels challenged the highest power of heaven.
Jealous of the freedom accorded to newly created humans, he demanded free will for all angels. The
confrontation fractured heaven, creating a legion of upstarts. But far from denying them, heaven granted
these angels what they so desired.
But the gift came at a terrible price. Almost immediately, the angels felt a dark presence, born of
greed, stir within. Fear rippled throughout the ranks, but it was too late to beg forgiveness. For their
blasphemy, their bodies were torn asunder and reborn in fire, the blood in their veins cursed for all time.
Their wings were torn from their monstrous bodies, and they took on the look of beasts.
The accursed beings were cast out of heaven, made to wander Earth for all time. Humans were given
the sanctuary of Eden to protect them from the encroaching evil, but free will once again proved to be
both blessing and curse, and they began to travel far and wide beyond the haven. Eventually, Eden
became no more than a mirage, its location lost in the sands of time.
The fallen angels quickly discovered men, and it was then that they felt the first pull of bloodlust. The
seeds of their revenge were sown, and they fed upon humans, integrating themselves into society.
Vampirism spread slowly, giving foul birth to a demon race that called itself the Telave.
Eden is now lost, and no place on Earth offers shelter as those of the Telave continue to build their
army of undead soldiers, biding their time to wage war on heaven and Earth. They move virtually
undetected, cloaked in the shadowy mantle of human ignorance and denial.
But heaven has not forsaken the weak and defenseless. The most faithful of angels were sent to mate
with human females, giving rise to a race of holy warriors strong enough to withstand the unholy invasion
of the vampiric virus.
However, the warriors are spread thin as the demonic plague escalates. Their victories are few; the
casualties many.
A savior to lead them has long been promised.
But the centuries have passed, and no savior has arrived . . .
When she does, the fate of the world will rest in her hands.

Darkness Descending is the first book in Devyn’s Vampire Armageddon series. In Darkness Descending we meet Jesse (our heroine) she has been through hell in the last year.  Being attacked by demons, losing her sister, being arrested and as if things couldn’t get worse she is hanging out in a cemetery.  Jesse is waiting to take her revenge on the monsters that attacked her and killed her sister.  As with everything else in the past year her attack plan only leave her getting attaché again.  But this time she won’t go down without a fight.
The last thing Maddox expected to this night at the cemetery was a young girl trying to kill a freshly turned vampire.  But doing his job he takes out the vampire and saves the young woman.  But this young woman is not what she seems to be. Maddox takes Jesse under his wing in hope to teach her how to protect herself while fighting vampires.  But while helping Jesse, Maddox has to face down his own demons and the growing feelings he has for Jesse.  But this time Maddox may have waited too long.

I LOVED this story!!!! Devyn sucked me in from the beginning of the prologue.  I hate to say that I love see characters struggle, but I do. And boy do these characters struggle.  Each of these characters have demons they have to face.  Choices to make.  Destiny’s to fulfill.

I really can’t wait to see where Devyn takes us next with Maddox, Jesse and crew.

Trinity by Deena Remiel

One way or another, terror will reign tonight.

Emma Livingston, a single mom, has been through hell—and back, so she thinks. While dealing with her five year old daughter’s night terrors, she attempts to live a normal life. That is, until the being from those very nightmares comes to visit her. Has her child been dealing with a real demon while she thought he was only a figment of an active imagination?
Michael D’Angelo is known to everyone in Prophet’s Point, Arizona, as their loving elementary school principal. But to The Brethren, he is known as the most powerful Protector. Immortal and angelic does not mean he’s without doubts or fears. While trying to protect Emma and Hannah, his tortured past comes back to haunt him. Can he overcome it? Or is he doomed to repeat a failure he has lived with for what seems like an eternity?
As Emma and Michael come together to protect Hannah, ancient secrets are revealed and faith is tested. When a prophecy is exposed, questions must be answered… Can Emma learn to trust enough to love again? Can Michael believe in himself enough to show Emma how? And will they be able to protect an innocent child, not to mention save the world as they know it, from total annihilation?

My thoughts:

“In the world of good versus evil it is always good to have an angel on your side”

I enjoyed this story.  Deena does a great job of setting up a new world for us, a world of good and evil.  On the evil side we have the devil Namirha.  On the good side we have the Brethren & EL”s (God) Warrior Angels.  But in this struggle between good and evil a little girl is caught in the middle.  A little girl who can change everything for both sides. Emma is the mother of this young girl.  Who is willing to do anything needed to save her daughter, even trust Namirha to save her.
If you believe in Angels & Demons I would tell you to grab a copy of Trinity and jump into the world of the Brethrens and see if good always wins over evil.

Steve Larson is anything but your typical romance hero. A redheaded computer nerd with a slow, southern drawl, Steve is neither a cattle baron nor a titan of industry. The one thing he does have going for him is that he has loved Sara from the moment he met her.
When she confesses that he has long served as her inspiration, Steve leaps at the chance to take things to the next level. Determined to be the man to make her fantasies come true, he takes a page from Sara’s own books and plots a passion so intense it threatens to consume them and the friendship they both cherish.
When friends turn into lovers, love can get lost in the shuffle. Fact becomes tightly cocooned in fiction as both Sara and Steve learn to balance their desires with the needs of their hearts.
Guest Reviewer Kellie’s Thoughts:
What a fun, endearing and steamy story. I found myself smiling, laughing and fanning myself all in the same scene. The only problem with this story was its length, I wanted more. The characters were full of chemistry and the playful banter addicting. This real life story could be any of us, friends that become lovers with a feel good ending. A must read that warms the heart and the bedroom. Steve and Sara held out eight years and the wait was worth it.
Thank you Kellie, I hope everyone else enjoys as much as you did..
