Redwood Pack Vol 4

contains the fifth book in the Redwood Pack series and a special novella in print and digital form

Forgiveness – Redwood Pack 4.7

Adam Jamenson’s courtship of his mate wasn’t the most conventional. In fact, it didn’t exist. Though he knows Bay loves him with every ounce of her soul, he needs to prove to her that he’s worth it. Not only for her, but for himself. While they move on and learn to be the Enforcer mated pair, Bay will find herself on a path that leads her to a history beyond just her and Adam’s mating. When she finds a locket rich in history and memories, she’ll do all in her power to see those involved found and remembered. With Adam by her side, they’ll both find the true meaning of forgiveness.

Author’s Note: This is a novella set between books 4 and 5 to give you a taste of Bay and Adam. It is best that you have already immersed yourselves in the Redwood Pack world, however even new readers will enjoy a glimpse of one of the Redwood’s favorite couples.

Shattered Emotions – Redwood Pack 5

Maddox Jamenson is the Omega of the Redwood Pack, the one burdened by emotions stronger than his own. He’s spent his entire life shrouded in the secrets of his “gift” and the price he has to pay to keep it, yet the cost just escalated. He’s known a mate could be in the cards for him, but he can’t have what he wants. Not when the battles he has yet to fight could destroy her.

Ellie Reyes was the Central’s princess, the daughter of the most hated Alpha of all time, yet not prized. No, she’s spent her life as the toy of her brother’s sadistic torture and has endured a pain that no one else should have to even contemplate. Though when she’s rescued, the one person who could help her, her mate, turns his back on her for reasons unknown to her. As each day passes, the strength that everyone sees in her dwindles to a point that there may be no coming back from.

When the Centrals find a new way to attack, leaving Ellie’s only protection a mate that she doesn’t think wants her, they’ll both have to overcome their fears and fight for something stronger than their pain.  The war isn’t over and new players are coming that will decide the outcome. Maddox and Ellie’s connection will be tested even as their fragile bond is only newly forming.

Spotlight Feature of Surrender by Stephanie Tyler

Surrender (Section 8 #1)

DESPERATE, FEARLESS, AND HUNTED

For former Navy SEAL Dare O’Rourke, Section 8 was legendary. The son of one of its missing members, he grew up in the shadow of its secrets. All he knew was that it was a cabal of operatives discharged from branches of the military and reassigned to extremely dangerous, off- the-books international missions. And that their handler was as shrouded in mystery as the missions themselves.

NOTHING CAN STOP THEM. NOTHING CAN BREAK THEM.

Now the handler of Section 8 has given orders to kill any remaining members, along with their families. Dare must save his long-lost half sister, Avery, whom he was never meant to meet. Determined to fight for their lives and find their missing father, Dare and Avery bring together for one last mission those who are in danger because of their relationship to Section 8—to avenge their families and to survive.

**ADDED BY AUTHOR: Dare’s love interest in this book is NOT his half sister – I promise!***

TITLE: Rules Of Entanglement
SERIES #: Fighting For Love #2
CHARACTERS: Vanessa & Jax
AUTHOR: Gina L. Maxwell
PUBLICATION DATE: 03/31/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Seven days. And seven rules to break…

District Attorney Vanessa McGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned – and it starts with seven rules she’s laid out for her future. But as she’s organizing her best friend’s wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa’s best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter…

Jackson “Jax” Maris is focused on surfing, training and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth, and finds himself having to pretend he’s engaged to his little sister’s best friend, Vanessa. When they’re forced to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa’s long-term plan, he has seven days – and seven naughty nights – to turn her seven-rule plan upside down

REVIEW:
I didn’t want to miss a word of this story. I thought with it being such a long story there might be a lot of repeating itself but there really wasn’t. I enjoyed the connected between Jax and Vanessa. V is such an interesting character and I loved her snideness. She is written very well. Jax is just a great guy. Man I wish there were more guys like him in the world. He has a romantic sweet side but will also fight for his woman and will even not fight for her (you will understand that when you read the book).

I think anyone who enjoys a true love romance then this is the book for you. It has a bit of everything but the best part is Jax. There is something about that man… Yum. The book is a bit long but as I said before I really didn’t want to miss a word of it. A true fan of romance will enjoy this story.

I did not read the first in the series but will go back and read it now because Lucie and Reid sound like they had a great story too. But you do not need to read that one to read this book.

Kimberly reviews No Foolin’ by Lisa Scott

TITLE: No Foolin’
SERIES #: Willowdale Romance #1
CHARACTERS: Kate & Teague
AUTHOR: Lisa Scott
PUBLICATION DATE: 12/04/12
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Welcome to Willowdale, North Carolina, a small town where the folks are friendly, the romances are as sweet as the tea, and the biddies at the diner gobble up gossip like it’s peach cobbler. This may be their biggest scoop ever.

When sexy Hollywood bad-boy Teague “T-Rex” Reynolds comes to this quiet Southern town, he needs a fake girlfriend to hide the secret that brought him there. School nurse Kate Riley takes the job, but she won’t fall for a movie star, no ma’am. That’s fine with Teague. He hung a closed sign on his heart years ago.

Convincing the press they’re in love is one thing. Fooling each other they’re not is getting harder each day. Despite scandal, heartache, and misunderstandings galore, they might just find the sweet thrill of true love. Book one of The Willowdale Romances.

REVIEW:
3.5 Stars ~ This is a cute story. I enjoyed Teague and Kate a lot. The relationship they have it very sweet. I am not sure that I think this book is “upbeat” though for most of it. Kate (and her sister) have a very low self-esteem which you can understand given their history but it is a bit of a downer after a while. I actually started to feel sad for them both. I wanted Kate to have a least some confidence in herself but other than the fact that she knows she can “always make things work out one way to another” she has very little confidence in herself.

However, she also almost has a childlike quality when she learns new things. She is really a interesting character in some ways good and some ways bad but still interesting. Teague is sweet and loving but he also has a youthfulness about him that should not be there for his age. He knows he is not what the papers say he is but he is not sure he can be what he wants to be. I am not sure how he supposedly got all the money he has since he is not a big time actor yet but, hey, I don’t know how Hollywood works. But, anyway, I liked him.

I really didn’t care about the background story of Kate’s pregnant sister. She was so needy and scared of life that, again, it was a bit of a downer but I understand it needed to be there to enhance Kate’s story.

Do not get me wrong. I liked the book. I truly enjoyed the day reading it and think anyone who enjoys the romance genre will enjoy it too.

Now she’s back in Holiday and ready to take over her duties…as well as deal with Jackson once and for all. But there’s another player in town who isn’t happy with the decisions she made all those years ago and Jackson might be the one who takes the brunt of that anger.

Interview with Zoe Forward

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Zoe Forward to the blog today to chat about her newest release Dawn of a Dark Knight.

Zoe, can you please share with us a little about yourself

(Zoe) Thank you for inviting me to visit!  I’m a veterinarian with a passion for writing fiction and a special love for archaeology, especially anything Egyptian.  Although my past has taken me on field expeditions into rain forests, I’ve never had a chance to visit a hot sandy country to see a working archeological dig site.  It’s a goal. And I’m good at goals.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

(Zoe) Several years ago I realized I wanted to write fiction as well as read. The characters bumping around in my brain screamed to be free. Releasing them onto paper was an exhilarating experience.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

(Zoe) I’m thrilled to steal a few minutes in a busy day to pen some pages. Most plotting and brainstorming happens on my work commute or walking the dog. Most of my writing happens late at night. Bottom line is that I make it happen, but my writing days are anything but typical.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

(Zoe) Finding time to write is my biggest challenge! I’m a veterinarian by day and a writer by night. Some people wear capes and save worlds at night. I have a laptop and create worlds…I’d say my way is a bit less life threatening, but equally heroic.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

(Zoe) In Dawn of a Dark Knight Dr. Kira Hardy jeopardizes her brilliant medical career to save Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, after a brutal daemon attack. Their attraction is instant and, for Ashor, forbidden.  As an ancient nemesis resurfaces and targets Kira, they face a crucial decision—follow the gods’ rules or follow their hearts.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

(Zoe) The idea really just came to me all at once.  I love the mystery of ancient Egypt, and created this small band of heroes trying to make it in a modern world while obeying rules set down by ancient gods.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

(Zoe) I’m working hard on the sequel to DAWN OF A DARK KNIGHT, which is deliciously exciting. Let’s just say the whole cast is back, the newbies are screwing up (as usual), and there’s a new guy who was cursed long ago.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

(Zoe) I love to read, but I don’t get a lot of time to do so anymore.  Sometimes, I’ll have time to pick up a new book, but if I’m awake with free time, I want to be writing. I love paranormal romance, but also action contemporary fiction.  Some favorite authors that come to mind are Linda Howard, J.R. Ward, Heather Graham, and Sandra Brown.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

(Zoe) Absolutely! I’m inspired by the complexity of story these authors create, and the beautiful characters.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

(Zoe) Waiting for me are J.R. Ward’s Lover At Last and Rick Gualtieri’s The Mourning Woods.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

(Zoe) Thank you for the interview! Readers can visit me at http://www.zoeforward.com or email me at zoe@zoeforward.com.

In the shadows of our world, a secret band of warriors fights to protect us. They are the last line of defense against an evil no human can stop.

An ancient nemesis has resurfaced. Duty demands that Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, recruit a magical healer to fortify the remaining eight magi. The gods’ choice is the woman who helped him escape torture a decade ago. Ashor couldn’t have imagined a better punishment for his vow-breaker homicidal incidents than for the gods to bind him irrevocably to the only woman in the universe he cannot have. The soul-searing desire she ignites in him is strictly forbidden.

Kira Hardy, M.D. is a brilliant, hardworking internal med resident with big secrets. But when Ashor asks for aid after a brutal daemon attack, she is sucked into his dangerous, secret world. Enslavement to the magi, no matter how hot they are, may be an unattractive life plan, but being targeted for death by their enemies is less tolerable.

She must trust the sexy, tormented Ashor to keep her safe while he must deny his ultimate desire and keep Kira at arm’s length lest he bring destruction down on them both. As a centuries-old evil catches up to them, they face a crucial decision—follow the gods’ rules or follow their hearts.

Excerpt:

“Watch out,” Kira shrieked as a four-door import pulled alongside the SUV. The driver targeted Ashor with a gun.

“Down,” Ashor commanded. He dodged the firing muzzle and grabbed Kira forward to avoid the bullet’s path. The bullet left clean holes in the side windows and a spiderweb of cracked glass.

“Persistent bastards,” Ashor grumbled as he jammed the SUV into gear and rammed the car next to them before peeling away. Just as they hit the road, Ashor’s new cell phone squealed in a high-pitched, synthetic, musical noise.

“You okay?” he asked, ignoring the phone. To clear his side view, Ashor thrust his elbow through the spiderweb of cracked safety glass. Glass cubes showered everywhere. “Shit.” He wiped his body free of debris.

“I’m fine,” she replied. She whiplashed into the seat as the SUV was rammed forward.

Ashor tapped the brakes. The cars crashed together again, slamming them forward and then forcefully back in their seats.

“Can’t you do a spell or something to protect this car or make his explode?” Kira asked.

“What? No.”

“Aren’t you a magus, which implies magician or sorcerer? You guys are supposed to do magic spells.”

“The spells were lost.” His phone rang again.

“Lost? What kind of moronic organization loses the spells!”

Kimberly reviews The Love Shack by Christie Ridgway

TITLE: The Love Shack
SERIES #: Beach House No.9 #3
CHARACTERS: Skye & Gage
AUTHOR: Christie Ridgway
PUBLICATION DATE: 03/26/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Globe-trotting photojournalist Gage Lowell spent carefree childhood summers in Crescent Cove. Now that he desperately needs some R & R, he books a vacation at Beach House No. 9—ready to soak up some sun and surprise old friend and property manager Skye Alexander. Their long-distance letters got him through a dangerous time he can’t otherwise talk about. But when

he arrives, the tightly wound beauty isn’t exactly happy to see him.

Skye knows any red-blooded woman would be thrilled to spend time with gorgeous, sexy Gage. But she harbors secrets of her own, including that she might just be a little bit in love with him. And she’s convinced the restless wanderer won’t stay long enough for her to dare share her past—or dream of a future together. Luckily for them both, summer at Crescent Cove has a way of making the impossible happen…

REVIEW:
This is the last in the Beach House No. 9 trilogy and I think it might have been the best of the three. Beach House No. 9 is magical or so the summer visitors say and with this last book in the series they might be right.

Gage returns back for a harrowing experience overseas to the woman he believes to be a friend and pen-pal but there is something more. Something that each of them is dealing with internally and while they tell each other almost everything in their letters both don’t want to share the experiences even though doing so would help them both heal and that is where the beach and the house come in.

I have always enjoyed Ridgway’s book and this was no exception. There is something about Gage and Skye that pulls you in. Maybe it is because we have been a part of their correspondence every since book one in the series or maybe it is just that Ridgway writes a couple that are meant to be together.

While you can read this on its own I would suggest starting with book one. There is a number of things in this book that wrap up the stories from the first and second in the series and I think you will miss the feeling of completion without reading all of them. And trust me it is no burden to read Ridgway’s books.

Jennifer reviews Timber Creek by Veronica Wolff

TITLE: Timber Creek
AUTHOR: Veronica Wolff
PUBLICATION DATE: 12/31/12
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
For Laura Bailey it wasn’t easy weathering her teen years at her quaint family lodge in a boondock town at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Fleeing for San Francisco the minute she graduated high school seemed like a good idea-until she lost her job and her fiance. The blow to her pride sent her back to Sierra Falls to figure out her life. But her hometown is undergoing a bit of renovation.

A new Sierra Falls resort is posing a threat to the Bailey family business. Even worse, the construction company developing the property is run by Eddie Jessup, Laura’s cocky high school nemesis who delighted in locking horns with the little spitfire. Some things never change. But their battle isn’t the only thing heating up between Laura and Eddie, and before long they realize that getting to know each other all over again has its rewards. But fate isn’t through with them. Nor are the games men and women play in the name of love.

REVIEW:
This is the second book in the Sierra Falls series and I loved this book so much better than the first one, Sierra Falls. Laura was a young woman who had lost her prestigious job and boyfriend forcing her to come back home to the place she desperately wanted to get away from as a teenager. She didn’t seem very nice in the beginning of this story because she was constantly yelling at everyone and was impatient with most of the staff at her family’s lodge. But I connected with this character because I could see that she put up this barrier to try to prove to people that she had it all together when inside she felt like a failure. She never really felt as though she was good enough growing up and when Eddie started working for her family’s competition, she did everything in her power to stop the construction. The family business was the only thing that she had left to focus her energy on and she couldn’t let that be destroyed.

I loved Eddie because he was sweet, funny and just a great guy that any girl would want for a boyfriend. He had been trying so hard to get Laura to see him in a romantic light and even though he was working on the construction for the new spa, he was never upset with Laura even though she brought up several issues about his work permit at every turn. They were the perfect match for each other even though it took longer for Laura to realize that she had everything she needed to be happy in Sierra Falls right in front of her.

I love small town romances and Veronica Wolff does a wonderful job creating characters that you can fall in love with. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Sierra Falls series and I have a feeling that I know who the lucky characters are that will find their true happiness next.

Interview & giveaway with Melinda Leigh

BnK:  Melinda, it is so nice to have you as a guest on the blog today.

Melinda:  Thank you for having me on Books-n-Kisses.

BnK:  Hey wait, today is release day for you isn’t it?  Midnight Sacrifice is book 2 in your Midnight Series right?

Melinda:  Yes!  <squee>

BnK: Well, Happy Release Day!!!

Melinda:  Thanks!  I am so excited to finally share this book with my readers. Writing Midnight Sacrifice was an emotional journey for me. The book turned out very different from how I’d planned. When I hit the midpoint, I got stuck. I couldn’t finish. The story refused to be shoehorned into my carefully constructed outline. Finally, I threw my synopsis away and let go.  I’m a plotter, so tossing my plot line wasn’t easy. But the story turned out so much better than I had envisioned.

BnK:  Let’s talk about your new book Midnight Sacrifice.  How about we open the book to a random page and you share with us what is happening.

Melinda:  How about a snippet? In Chapter Two, Danny returns to Maine to hunt down the escaped killer who kidnapped and tried to kill his sister.  Upon arrival, the first thing he does is stop to see Mandy, who has mixed feelings about sexy Danny’s return to Huntsville. Let’s find out why.

“What brings you back to Maine?”

He set his coffee on the counter. “We got a call about the case.”

Mandy fumbled the plate. It dropped to the floor with a crash. Bits of ceramic flew in every direction. The muffin rolled across the tile.

“I’m sorry.” Danny rounded the island. “I shouldn’t have blurted it out like that.”

“No, it’s not your fault.” She grabbed a broom from the pantry and swept up the debris. She emptied the dustpan in the trash, the excited flutter in her belly giving way to nausea. She wanted to ask him what happened, but fear silenced her voice like sawdust smothered a fire. On one hand, paranoia was getting old. On the other, there were things no one knew. Things she didn’t want anyone to know. And for the sake of her family, things she hadn’t told the police…

BnK:   How did you come up with the idea for the Midnight Series?

Melinda:   The plot for Midnight Exposure (book #1 in the series) started evolving after I watched a documentary on the ancient Druids. I’m a geek. Must to my teenagers’ dismay, I love to watch reenactments of the Roman invasion of Britain and read about archeological digs at Stonehenge.  After my initial concept was born, the rest of the story evolved over time. I set up the beginning of Midnight Sacrifice in book #1, so I couldn’t wait to pick up the plot line again and find out what happened to Mandy and Danny.

BnK:  How hard is it to get into the head of the bad guys?  Are there ever scenes that are sometime too hard to write?

Melinda:  Actually, the villain is often the easiest point-of-view for me to write. (Mwa ha ha ha ha).  When I plot out the book, I make sure my villain has goals and motivation just like the protagonists.  The villain is often simpler, because he usually isn’t encumbered by guilt or morals.  In the Midnight series, however, my villains are just as complicated as my hero and heroine. Nothing is black-and-white in this series.

BnK:  How many books do you see in the Midnight Series?

Melinda:  Probably at least 3.  I already have the seeds of Conor Sullivan’s story in my head. So I’d really like to write that book. Who knows after that?  I’ll have to wait and see how book #3 turns out before I decide if the series will continue beyond Conor’s story.

BnK: You do have another romance suspense series you write too called the “She Can” series (which I love).  Can you tell us a little more about this series?

Melinda:  The “She Can” novels are a very loosely connected series of books that centers on the residents of the fictional mountain town of Westbury, Pennsylvania.  I love to revisit main and secondary characters. So cameos from past heroes and heroines are common.  SHE CAN RUN was the first book in this series and my very first published novel. The book sold unexpectedly well, surpassing 100,000 copies in just 6 months.  SHE CAN TELL (#2) hit the Amazon bestseller list on release day.  The next book in the series is SHE CAN SCREAM, with a release date of September 17, 2013. And my current work-in-process is tentatively titled SHE CAN HIDE.

BnK:  Do you have any other series in the works?

Melinda:  Juggling two series is quite enough for the moment. I have enough voices in my head with the characters from six stories all talking at once and vying for my attention.  For instance, while I’m writing SHE CAN HIDE, Conor Sullivan keeps interrupting me with suggestions for his Midnight story.  He’ll have to make due with side notes until I finish this book.

BnK: What did you do before you became a writer and are you glad that you made the move to author.

Melinda:  I was a banker, then a stay-at-home mom. I don’t regret leaving banking for one second. It was the complete wrong career for me. Writing is my dream job. But it’s also much harder than I’d envisioned. I work six to seven days a week, and twelve hour days are common when deadlines approach.  But there isn’t a day that I don’t wake up grateful for this fabulous second career.

BnK: If you could be talented at anything (besides writing) what would it be and why

Melinda:  This is a tough one. I love books and constructing stories, and I know exactly how lucky I am to be a professional writer. I think achieving this success late in life (after working for many years at a job I despised) makes me appreciate it more. If I could pick a second talent, I’d pick music, for which I currently have absolutely zero talent. I couldn’t carry a tune if you offered me a billion dollars.

BnK:   What is the best piece of advice you would give to any inspiring writers?

Melinda:  Keep writing. Keep revising. Keep improving your craft. A book can always be better. I received many, many rejections for SHE CAN RUN. For four years, I accepted rejections and analyzed criticism. I used the writing of that book to polish characterization, to learn pacing, to improve story structure. I rewrote the novel 5 times, and it ended up a bestseller.  If I had stopped trying at revision #3, the book wouldn’t have been as good, sales wouldn’t have been as high, and more importantly, I’d have gaps in my writing skills I hadn’t known existed.

BnK:  Melinda, it was a great honor to have you on the blog today.  Is there anything we left out you would like the readers to know about you or your books?

Melinda:  I love to hear from readers.  So don’t hesitate to contact me through social media or my website.

BnK:  Please come back again and I hope everyone enjoys your books

Melinda: Thanks to Books-n-Kisses for hosting me on this very special day.

Midnight Sacrifice picks up 4 months after Nathan has escaped capture but not before trying to kill Jed and kidnapping Mandy. Now the small towns of Huntsville is trying to deal with the fallout that one of their own is a murder.

But not everyone in town is a sweet and innocent as they seem to be. People are keeping secrete. People are sneaking around and bad things are right around the corner.

Melinda’s followup to Midnight Exposure leaves you gripping your book just a little too tight. Wishing you could help them. Wishing you could stop the bad guy. Just plain wishing.
