Interview with LJ Garland & Debbie Gould

Welcome to the blog LJ & Debbie.  Can you please share with us a little about yourself

Debbie: I work full time as a nurse at a small rural Vermont family practice, have three awesome kids and have recently discovered caffeinated hot cocoa! Amazing stuff that!

Laura: LOL Yep. And coffee is even better…wait, café mocha is even better. J

Debbie: Shut up about the coffee and just answer the question.

Laura: Okey dokie. I have three boys who keep me hopping 24/7 as I home school them all (hence the coffee addiction – LOL). I love animals, cheesecake, any type weapon, and anything that goes boom! Um, but not all at one time.

Debbie: (sigh)

Laura: What? I didn’t want any misunderstandings.

Debbie: (smacks Laura upside the head)

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Debbie: Not until my mid-thirties. Up till then I was to busy reading as many books as I could get my hands on.

Laura: Yep…same here. Not until my mid-thirties.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

Debbie: Hmmm, I don’t think I’m all that interesting. Now Laura, she’s a quac- uh, I mean her interesting quirk is her OCDness. It comes in very handy when I forget everything we’ve brainstormed and she’s got it all categorized by date, time, book, series, character, genre. Etc. My boyfriend thinks I’m slightly nuts because I gave him shi…heck one night when he left the basement door open as we went to bed. He thought he was going to let some warm air in there. Ummm, HELLO!!!! You can’t leave the basement door open at night. The bogeyman will get out. Men! Sheesh!

Laura: (High-fives Deb) You got that right. My most interesting writing quirk? Probably overusing certain words…like my latest is ‘soft’. No clue why.

Debbie: I don’t think soft is a very good word for writers of romance. You need to get over that one.

Laura: I’m working on it. Not like there’s anything ‘soft’ about the suspense stories we write.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Debbie: In My Sights is part of the 1 Night Stand series over at Decadent Publishing. It’s the second in a sub series Laura and I are writing about an Air Force Pararescuemen Team.

Laura: It’s sooo much fun. Each guy on the team will meet his perfect mate and have hot sex. They go into the date thinking it’s just for one night, but something happens (doesn’t it always?), and they fall in love. (sigh)

How did you come with the idea for this story?

Debbie: My daughter is in the Air Force, so I love Military themes. Then once Laura and I start talking, the ideas just flow.

Laura: LOL Yes they do. And they take us in some surprising directions sometimes. Well, like this sub-series did. Instead of just being about the romance of each team member, there’s an underlying thread throughout the books. My husband was in the Air Force, too, so I guess that might be why Debbie and I clicked on this theme.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Debbie: Right now we are working on Explosive Conditions, which is the next story in our Pararescumen series. We are also working on the sequel to Sins Of The Mind also from Decadent Publishing.

Laura: They’re both romantic suspense. But we also have delved into paranormal romance…with a heavy dose of suspense as well.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

Debbie: Stephen King pops to mind, but I’ve met some really great authors and just love picking their brains!

Laura: Suzanne Brockmann. Seems like she would be great to chat with about military mixing with romance.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Debbie: Keep writing, keep learning, and take everything with a grain of salt.

Laura: Hang tough. Sometimes it’s hard to believe in yourself in an industry that is so darn subjective. But if you study the craft and keep writing, you’ll get there. Look at Stephen King…he was rejected lots of times before someone finally really looked at his work and saw how good he is.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

Debbie: Go to Alaska, sky dive, bungee jump, write a NYT bestseller, drive a Nascar Sprint cup…. Are among a few.

Laura: Go to Machu Pichu, see the Great Barrier Reef, ride in a gondola in Venice, go on a dinosaur dig…the list is loooong.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Debbie: Just got Karen Rose’s latest release, Did You Miss Me? Can’t wait to dive into that one.

Laura: Headed for Trouble by Suzanne Brockmann. Mmm, the title is enticing!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Debbie: Thank You so much for having us here today!!

Laura: Yes, thanks so much! We had a great time!

BLOOD LUST (Preternaturals Book 1) (The compilation of my novellas: Kept, Claimed, and Mated… also sold separately at etailers.)

LENGTH 90,000 words

It’s all about the blood…

Comprised of three novellas, Blood Lust gives readers a snapshot look at the world of the Preternaturals Series. (Future installments of the series will be novels.)

KEPT:

As a cat therian (shifter), Greta’s blood is already sought after to enhance spells and potions, but due to a quirk of her birth, her blood is potent enough to kill for. When her tribe plans to sacrifice her, Greta must ally herself with Dayne, the dangerous local sorcerer, and the only person strong enough to protect her.

CLAIMED:

For a vampire, Anthony isn’t a picky eater, but he’s drawn to Charlee’s blood more than any other. Like a fine wine saved for a special occasion, he’s denied himself this pleasure. But one night, high from the potent magical blood of another, he claims his prize and loses control. Ashamed of almost killing the one woman who means anything to him, he wipes her memory of the event. When Charlee awakens with complete amnesia, Anthony is the only one who can clean up the mess he’s made.

MATED:

Because of the vampiric blood that has run through her veins since birth, Jane has been a target for vampires who resent a human being “kindred.” She’s forced to disguise herself as a vampire groupie to appease them and safeguard her life. When she’s abruptly given to Cole, the leader of the werewolf pack, to satisfy a gambling debt, she discovers the blood running through her veins has a far greater impact on her destiny than she ever imagined.

Real Mermaids Festive Treats

Hi everyone! Jade here from Real Mermaids.

One of my favourite things about the upcoming holidays is the great treats we get to make and share. I love food so much, in fact, that I included a recipe for some of my favourite snacks in each of the Real Mermaids books.

My friend Cori and I thought we’d experiment a bit and ‘holiday-ize’ each recipe for you!

In Real Mermaids Don’t Hold Their Breath, Cori and I were totally desperate for a sleepover snack so Cori whipped up a batch of chocolate covered popcorn with some popcorn kernels, chocolate chips, a brown paper bag and a microwave. I’m not kidding—that girl’s a genius! We added some candy cane sprinkles here to give it that festive touch.

Chocolate Popcorn with Candy Cane Sprinkles

Supplies:

– brown paper lunch bag

– stapler

– measuring cup

– microwave

Ingredients:

– 1/3 cup popcorn kernels

– 2 tbsp brown sugar

– 3 tbsp chocolate chips

– 3 tbsp butter or margarine

– pinch of salt

– 3 candy canes, crushed

Pour the popcorn kernels into a brown paper lunch bag then fold the top of the bag ¼ of an inch, twice. Secure with two staples (trust me, Cori Googled it!) at the folded part to seal the bag shut. Put the bag flat in the microwave and cook on HIGH for about two minutes. Each microwave is different, though, so you may need to adjust the time.

Meanwhile, add the brown sugar, chocolate chips, butter/margarine and salt to a microwave-safe measuring cup. Cook on HIGH for about 15 seconds or until the gooey buttery-chocolaty mixture is melted. Mix well with a fork then pour it over the popcorn.

Toss like a salad, add the candy cane sprinkles on top and munch away!

Happy treats and have a great holiday, everyone!

Love,
Jade

Interview with Justin & Rina from Carrie Ann Ryan’s Santa’s Executive

A Character Interview with Justin and Rina

Hi All! I’m sitting here with my character for my latest release, Santa’s Executive. Justin and Rina are an adorably cute couple…just don’t tell Justin that since he’s a little touchy.

Justin: I heard that.

Carrie Ann:  *coughs* Uh…sorry, totally didn’t know you were there.

Justin: *blinks* Sure.

Rina: *Laughs* oh, you’re a dork. But I love you anyway.

Justin: I’m a dork? Really? Well, that’s just wrong. I thought I was your sexy ex bad boy? Oh, and I love you too.

Rina: *blushes* Justin…

Carrie Ann: Okay then…let’s get started. Though by the look of you two, you already have.  Okay, so tell me about your story.

Justin: Didn’t you write it?

Carrie Ann: *rolls eyes* Yes, but humor me. Tell the readers what your book is about.

Justin: Christmas and all that comes with it.

Rina: Oh, you’re a dork. Yes, I said it again. It’s about Justin’s new job as an executive and how I got to help him out. Oh, and how we fell in love.

Carrie Ann: See? That’s all I wanted, Justin. Okay, do you like your new powers, Justin?

Justin: They’re freaking weird, but I’m getting used to them. They were hard to control at first and I had a few scares, but Rina helped.

Rina: It’s my job.

Justin: *frames her face* It’s more than your job and you know it.

Carrie Ann: Awww. Okay, now for some fun questions. Rina, if you found out Justin had a side job in Magic Mike, what would you do?

Rina: Oh that sounds like a story idea!

Carrie Ann: I know right? Now answer the question.

Rina: Well, after I kicked his ass for dancing in front of all those women? See, elves can be territorial too. But I’d take him home and make sure he knew all those sexy moves were just for me.

Justin: You know they already are. Plus, I don’t like the idea of dancing around in a string. Sorry.

Carrie Ann: Well, us ladies can still imagine. Justin, what’s your favorite type of Christmas cookie? I know you love them since you’ve eaten about like 12 since we started.

Justin: *coughs* Only 4, and you know why I eat them. As for my favorite? The soft sugar ones with the thick frosting.

Carrie Ann: *mumbles must not eat cookies must not eat cookies* Okay, well, I love the two of you. You were so much fun to write and I hope everyone gets a chance to read Santa’s Executive!

Santa’s Executive

Justin Cooper wasn’t always the straight-laced Holiday Elementary School principal. In his youth, he broke all the rules and enjoyed being the bad Cooper brother.  One Christmas Eve night he got a little too rowdy and things changed forever. Now the consequences of that fateful night have come back in full force and the myths of Christmas might be more real than he thought.

Rina Brewer is one of Santa’s elves. Not the tiny cute little toy maker, but the sexy, petite, energy filled bombshell kind. She’s come to Holiday to aid Justin in his new role as Santa’s executive, but as soon as she sees the sexy ex-bad boy, she realizes the job may be more than she bargained for.

As they work together to make this Christmas one to remember, an old foe has come to town to make sure that this holiday is the coldest yet.

Warning: Contains a perky elf who dreams of something more, a Christmas myth who may be a baddie, and a sexy ex-bad boy who craves Christmas cookies…and a certain perky blonde.

Excerpt:

It would be totally inappropriate to want him.

But, in reality, the connection between an assistant and their executive could be an intimate one if they let it. They were sharing magic, and sometimes a connection would hold. She hadn’t thought about that when she’d come down here. Honestly, she hadn’t thought much of anything. But, she couldn’t think of any of that now. No, she had work to do.

Plus, the object of her thoughts was staring at her with an intensity that threatened to send shivers of need down her body.

“Rina?” Justin’s deep voice caught her attention, and she wanted to moan. Fruitcake, she had to get off that track. “What’s wrong? Are you still cold?”

He pulled her closer and ran his hands up and down her arms. She almost closed her eyes and leaned into his touch but resisted. Barely.

“I’m fine, just warming up.” She pulled back from his arms and tried to ignore the sudden loss. “Are you ready to go?”

Interview & Giveaway with Sandra Sookoo

We are so excited to have Sandra back on the blog.  She is always a hoot!!!

Sandra, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Hi there! Thanks so much for having me back on your blog. I always love my visits here J My name, for those of you who haven’t heard of me, is Sandra Sookoo. I write romantic fiction across several genres and heat levels because all of my readers are different. The happy ending is what draws me to writing, and as long as my stories have that along with their quirky characters, I’ll always give you a smile.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Well, I knew by the age of ten. Back then I was either going to be a writer or a cake decorator. I can bake a fine cake but decorating it is another matter—and I stink at it LOL Good thing I can spin a great yarn, huh?

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Absolutely! My newest book is a spicy Regency historical called THE BRIDE’S GAMBIT. It’s the 2nd book in the Scandal in Surrey series. I adored writing my hero, Collin. He’s the kind of man women swoon for and secretly dream they had. And I loved writing Vanessa too. She’s finally had it up to her eyeballs with her life and sets out to change it. Here’s the blurb:

She wants a dashing, courageous man…Vanessa Underhill is on the run from her fifth would-be groom. She doesn’t care for any of the men her father has picked–none engaged her mentally or physically. Hunger for a man who will stir her imagination fires her virginal fantasies.

He wants understanding… When he’s bored with his role as Viscount Blackpool, Collin Northington becomes a highwayman to gain anonymity and solace. With his face scarred fulfilling his military duty in India, he hides behind the brigand mask and persona. What he really desires is a woman who will look beyond outward appearances and take a chance.

If only for one night… In lieu of payment, Collin kidnaps Vanessa from the northern-bound stage.  The more time they spend together—and in each other’s arms—the more they find they have in common beyond heated desire. When Collin delivers an impromptu marriage proposal, Vanessa unmasks more than his scarred face, but will his true identity and her penchant for fleeing grooms ruin what could very well be love?

Opportunity threw them together but circumstances might tear them apart.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

It seems like I always have something in the works. Right now I’m writing a contemporary ménage plus I’m also working on the first book in a new Regency series. I have the cover for this one and it’s the best motivation. It’s so sexy!

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

That’s hand’s down easy: never stop writing. Write what you love. Often and always. And never let anyone tell you it won’t sell, work, etc. If you put passion in your writing and tell a great tale, it will find an audience.

I’d love to connect with you around the web! Here’s where you can find me:

He wants a shot at Parliament…Stephen Tarkington is a self-professed rogue but if he had his way, he’d be a philanthropist. The only thing prohibiting his dream is his lack of sponsorship for a spot in Parliament. Marrying Lady Parker’s niece could solve his problem.

Sometimes the heart wants more…Imagine his surprise when he meets the widow and she’s not an old bird he can charm. She’s vibrant, sharp-tongued and enchanting to boot. Passion flares between them, and Stephen gives up on his plan… in search of a more pleasurable gamble.

Interview & giveaway with Delilah Marvelle & Maire Claremont

Books-n-Kisses is very excited to have the wonderful Delilah Marvelle and Maire Claremont on the blog today to chat about their new christmas anthology.

Ladies, can you please share with us a little about yourself

DM:  I’ve been writing books ever since I could remember and love to really research the nuances of history.  Especially naughty history J  I created a blog, A Bit O’Muslin (www.DelilahMarvelle.blogspot.com ) after discovering some readers didn’t know dildos existed in the era I wrote in (1830).  Imagine how shocked they were to discover the oldest dildo is actually over 28,000 years old.  I’ve been trying to educate the world ever since, lol.

MC:  I  am a total gypsy. I’ve lived in multiple states, Ireland, England, and Scotland. I hope to keep moving. At present, I am touring the Pacific NW where I am orignally from, and will be staying near FORKS. I will keep my eye out for sparkling men. I have an M.A. in Theater and ADORE outdoor Shakespeare, having gone to Oregon Shakespeare Festival almost every summer of my young life!

Have you always wanted to be an author?

DM:  Always.  I got sucked into story telling as a kid when my dad would read books to me and found that I either didn’t like the way the story ended or I never wanted the story to end.  So I started writing my own endings and stories.  I haven’t looked back since.

MC: Oh. . . This is a tricky question because when I was five I probably didn’t know I could be an author! But I was writing stories. I didn’t “officially decide” to be an author until I was about 17. And at that time, I had decided would be the next Johanna Lindsay. (cough)

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

DM:  My favorite authors are for the most part dead, lol.  Those authors include the Bronte sisters, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Edith Wharton, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.  Edith Wharton influenced my writing the most.  There was a wry tone to her stories that were just beautiful.

MC: Oy. Well in Romance, some of my FAVORITE WRITERS ARE; Delilah Marvelle, Meredith Duran, Sherry Thomas, Joanna Bourne, JR Ward and Karen Marie Moning! As to influence? Delilah Marvelle is huge because she Cris all my work, taking out the nonsense. But what really sent me down the path of writing more richly tormented dark historicals was Meredith Duran’s first book The Duke of Shadows. If you haven’t read this, you MUST!!!!

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

DM:  In high school, I wrote horror (seriously).  I was convinced I was going to be the next Stephen King.  The problem was, my writing wasn’t scary at all and always had a romance in it.  I finally discovered what I was really writing and drawn to when I read my first historical romance by Judith McNaught’s, WHITNEY MY LOVE.  It changed everything, lol.

MC: I fell in love with the sweep of historical romance straighaway. I loved the larger than life characers, the houses, the horses, the costumes, and of course the heroes!!! I have thought about writing in other genres, but for now my focus is all HISTORICAL!

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

DM:  It’s my first Christmas story I’ve done, and I’m excited to be able to share in this anthology, ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS WIIS A DUKE, with Màire Claremont.  The whole concept is wondering what happened to the person you first fell in love with many, many years ago.  Ever wonder what would happen if you had a chance to meet them again when you were older and wiser?  Merry Christmas, Mrs. Robinson is about a very special re-union between two souls who weren’t ready to love when they first met but how Christmas is about to change that all for them.

MC:   Well, at present, I am releasing All I Want For Christmass is a Duke with Delilah Marvelle! My story is The Twelve Days of Seduction which features an author in the disguise of a governess who refuses to slink of when her employer, the Duke of Beresford discovers her masquerade! My first full length novel, The Dark Lady, comes out Feb 5 2013. The heroine has been wrongfully placed in an insane asylum and her childhood love comes back to rescue her! But of course the course of true love never did run smooth and they have a lot of conflict to face before love can triumph!

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

DM:  I was re-watching ‘The Graduate’ with my husband when my characters both whizzed into focus.  I simply *had* to a write a story about an older woman and a younger man set in Dickens’s era during Christmas.  In honor of her being the older woman (and the fact that the idea came to me as I watching ‘The Graduate’) I was totally going to call her Mrs. Robinson even if I had to marry her off to someone other than the hero (which I did).  The similarities between ‘The Graduate’ and my story, however, end there, lol.

MC:  Well, in regard to Delilah and my Christmas novella, we both knew we wanted dukes.  Because seriously, what could be a better present! And I adore Jane Eyre, so I saw this as a chance to give my nod to one of my very, very favorite novels!  In regards to The Dark Lady, quite truthfully, that story came to me in the middle of the night, and my heroine Eva, was SO demanding, I had to sit down and write the first chapter in the dark in my living room. She was quite a force, and I will never forget how intense it was to awake with such a story in mind.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

DM:  The heroine is getting nailed.  (Not in a dirty way, people!).  It was a Twelfth Night tradition in the 1800’s that boys would go around with a hammer and nail and randomly nail the skirts of women and the coat tails of men to shop windows whenever anyone stopped.  It was their idea of a good time.  When I read about the tradition, I knew the heroine had to get ‘nailed’ to a confectionary shop.

MC: The hero and heroine are in a oak grove in the snowfall. He totally expects to seduce her. Instead, she gives him a lesson in etiqeuette, governess that she is!

What is your favorite Christmas/Holiday memory?

DM:  Going to downtown Chicago on State Street as a kid, going ice-skating and then getting hot cocoa and pop corn and walking from display window to display window of Marshal Fields (which no longer exists…sigh).  Everything just felt so magical then.

MC: My best Christmas memory must be from when I was VERY little! I was sitting staring at the tree with the lights waiting for my parents to wake up. My dad stumbled out to make the coffee and found me with the tree, rapt by all the beribboned presents!

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

DM:  The book that I’m *dying* to read but no one knows when the heck is coming out is Judith McNaught’s next historical romance.  There’s been talk of her coming out with another historical except it hasn’t happened.  Poo.

MC:     JR Ward’s latest!!! I can’t wait for Quinn and Blay’s story and Delilah Marvelle’s Forever A Lord!!! Lord Atwood is my favorite historical hero. ;D

“Two SCANDALOUS reads, one low price!” Only $0.99

Amazon | B&NA Christmas anthology by two hot names in historical fiction…

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Robinson by Delilah Marvelle

Lady Jane left her father, the Earl of Chadwick, and the ton behind to experience life on the stage. After a disastrous marriage, the widow is living on the edge of poverty, determined to guard her heart, when a secret admirer from her past demands a second chance.

Shy and retiring Martin Nicholas Pierce, the Sixth Duke of Somerset, has carried a torch for Lady Jane since her youth, but he is five years her junior. When she married another man, he left for Europe, determined to put her out of his mind. After returning to find Lady Jane free, he vows to replace the memories of her cursed Twelfth Night with a new beginning.

The Twelve Days of Seduction By Máire Claremont

Alexander Hunt, Eighth Duke of Berresford, is aware his ward’s governess isn’t quite what she seems. Although Miss Flint is beautiful and intelligent, she misrepresented herself to gain employment, and he threatens to give her the sack mere days before Christmas.

Desperate to convince the sexy duke not to tear her from the little girl she’s grown to adore, Adriana challenges him to seduce her before the Twelve Days of Christmas have come to an end, although she fears it may cost her heart. Alexander accepts the challenge, unconcerned that he has as much to lose, if not more, than the delectable Miss Flint.

The Reluctant Hero: A Character Interview with Logan, Hero of Deliver Me from Temptation

Author Tes Hilaire: Ever have a character revolt?  Well that’s what happened to me today. I went to check in with Logan to make sure he was heading over to the interview but he wasn’t there! Ugh, these heroes. Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em, right? Luckily Jessica is really good at tracking down her man and managed to find and drag the reluctant Logan in here for his interview. I hope you enjoy!

BnK: Hi Logan, Welcome to Books-n-Kisses.  I am excited to have you here today.

“Thank you for having me,” Logan says as he looks longingly at the door that Jessica just snuck out of after claiming that she’d be waiting in the hall.

BnK:  Can you please tell my followers a little about yourself?

“Oh,” Logan clears his throat, dragging his gaze from the door. “Of course.  I am the last full-blooded Paladin and guardian of the human race.”

BnK: Sounds intense, can you explain exactly what a Paladin is and what you do.

With one last glance at the door, Logan sighs and nods, focusing on BnK. “A Paladin is one of His warriors. We are descended from a group of volunteer angels who gave up their immortal, heavenly forms to come to earth as protectors of humankind. We weren’t left helpless though, besides granting us with increased strength, senses and constitution, we all have some sort of special ability that helps us fight against the type of evil that the human race is not equipped to deal with. Things such as Lucifer’s demons, Ganelon’s army of merkers, and the ever present, gutter-slime stock of vampires that seem to be procreating like bunnies.” He shakes his head. “It is a task which has become harder as the years have passed and we’ve lost many of our Paladin Brethren to Lucifer’s hordes.” His eyes drift towards the door. “I do have hope, however, that the tide is turning. Only time will tell though.”

BnK: So I know your dad is the leader of your group of Paladin’s.  What is it like working for your dad?

Logan shrugs. “It is what it is. We do not always see eye to eye and the fact that he is both my elder and my father makes this more difficult. I think our biggest challenge is keeping our father-son relationship away from the council table, which I guarantee you is not an easy task.”

BnK:  What was it like finding out you have a half-sister you never knew about?

“Ah, Karissa. Meeting her was an interesting and intense adventure.  I knew from the moment she landed on my doorstep that there was a connection between us; I just never imagined that she was of my blood.  That secret was yet another thing that my father and I do not agree on, just as I do not agree on how he keeps her at arms length since her turning months ago. We are all getting together for the Holidays though so I’m hoping…well…cross your fingers for us all!”

BnK: Tell us a little about Jessica.

Logan smiles, the tightness around his nose and eyes easing. “She is my light, the partner of my soul. She continually amazes me with her fierce compassion for justice.” His mouth twists a bit, a line forming between his brows. “Almost too fierce at times. I think she alone would take on Ganelon’s army if I let her.”

BnK: How about the 1st time you meet her.  What was that like?

Logan chuckles. “Like a punch to the solar plexus…or rather a good round of ass meets pavement. I was in complete denial that it was anything more than a good nock to the noggin, though. I kept on telling myself it was purely shock that a human had gotten the better of me. That will teach me to make assumptions.”

BnK: How do you feel about Tes telling your story?

Logan gives an infinitesimal lift and drop of his shoulders. “I respect her inquisitive mind, though I’d appreciate it if she’d respect the boundaries a bit better.” He looks over at Tes who has taken up position in a chair between the interview area and the exit. “You do know what boundaries are, don’t you?”

“Uh… yeah… of course.” Tes glances down at her notepad and starts doodling to avoid his gaze.

BnK: Do you think she kept the story true or did she leave out important parts or did she embellish parts?

“I think we’ve already established that she put in too many rather private details. All I can say is it’s a good thing she can’t duplicate herself, it’s bad enough having her hanging around like she does. Luckily she seems to be rather busy being a thorn in Valin’s side lately,” he adds with a bit of twinkle in his eyes.

BnK:  What do you see in your future for you and Jessica?

“Lots of fights. That’s fighting together, that is. As much as I would like to wrap Jess in cotton and stuff her away from harm, I love her too much to do so. It would crush her fierce spirit if I were to keep her away from her calling as a warrior for humanity, so I shall just have to endeavor to be there to…” he glances over at Tes who sits with her pen hovering above her notepad. “…uh…assist as needed.”

Tes grins in the corner. “Good save, pretty boy. I don’t think Jessica would have liked what you were about to say, would she?”

Logan’s face reddens, his jaw hardening a bit. “I hate that nickname.”

“It fits so well though,” Tes says, wiggling her brow. Logan rolls his eyes, focusing intensely back on BnK.

BnK:  What is something that Jessica would tell us about you that you would not normally want to share?

Logan arches a brow. “You really think I’m going to answer that?”

Tes raises her hand from her chair. “Oh! I will.” Logan pins Tes with a glare, but she ignores him. “Jessica would say not to let Logan’s…intense…demeanor put you off, that there is a big fuzzy soul hidden underneath it all.”

“Why, thanks, Ms. Hilaire,” Logan says from between clenched teeth.

BnK:  Logan, again thank you for taking the time to sit down with me and chat a little about your life.  Is there anything else you would like to tell my followers?

“Not particularly.” Logan glances at the door again, frowning. “I really need to get back to Jessica. My mate seems to have a propensity for finding trouble.” The chair creaks as he stands. “Thank you for your hospitality. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”

Tes waves from her chair. “Thanks for doing the interview, Logan!”

Logan nods, giving Tes an absentminded wave as he strides out the door.

Tes shakes her head. “Can you say one track mind?  He’s been impossible to talk with lately. Kind of annoying since he was always the most forthcoming Paladin before.” Tes shrugs. “Oh well.  I’ll be sticking around to answer any questions you might have about me or Logan.” Tes’s mouth twists up into an evil grin. “And, if you want, I’ll even text Jessica for answers to anything I can’t answer…Oh, and one lucky commenter will win a copy of Deliver Me from Temptation (US and Canada addresses only). So ask away!”

Interview with Rachel Lyndhurst

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to have Rachel Lyndhurst on the blog today to chat about her newest book The Spanish Billionaire’s Hired Bride

Rachel, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I live with my daughter, son and The Exec in Fareham, Hampshire, on the south coast of England and can sometimes smell the sea from my back garden.

I write full-time when my children are at school, but am still proud of my law degree and accountancy qualifications. I’ve worked in the space industry, pharmaceuticals, insurance, a supermarket, a bus station, a railway depot, and a lingerie department among others.

I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies these days, but if I get the chance I do enjoy rummaging through antique shops and visiting famers’ markets. I’m also partial to the odd glass of wine and hoarding expensive lipstick.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not consciously. I spent my childhood wanting to be many things, including a Concorde pilot, but the writing was always there. I wrote silly stories including my friends and our imaginary adventures in the Maggot Club (don’t ask!), and angsty teenage poems ridiculing boys that I fancied rotten. In my twenties the boring old office job improved when a subversive Viz-style comic came into being – it featured a character that looked like my boss quite heavily. I left that job soon after … During a decade working in as an accountant, I began to think how wonderful it would be to become an author instead.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I come back from the morning school runs and log on to my laptop while I make tea and toast for breakfast. I then work until about 3 pm slotting in lunch and playtime with our new kitten. I switch from writing to doing promotional copy and social networking as the need arises. And deal with emails of course. Then the children come home and it’s pretty much game over on the writing front. I have to have my reading glasses nearby these days, I’m afraid, but I’ve two very different pairs to wear depending on my mood. I’m currently wearing my purple leopard print Escadas.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

The promotion side of writing is the most challenging for me. I enjoy it and I know it’s an essential part of the job, but it’s extremely time consuming. The most rewarding thing is when people get in touch and say how much they enjoyed reading my book – that’s simply brilliant.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Here’s the blurb for my latest book with Entangled Indulgence, The Spanish Billionaire’s Hired Bride:

He bought her with cold, hard cash, but can she stop him from stealing her heart?

Blackmailed to marry against his will, Ricardo Almanza needs a wife before he’s thirty, and time is running out. A notorious playboy, marriage is the last thing he wants, but his stepmother’s sexy, debt-ridden personal assistant is the perfect solution. He makes her a business deal she can’t refuse—one million euros for three months as his wife. He might even enjoy being married to her … if she doesn’t kick the crap out of him again.

Helen Marshall can’t believe she’s considering Almanza’s outrageous proposal, but she must help clear her parents’ debts or they face financial ruin. The small print on the marriage contract changes to read three months as his wife in every way—including in the bedroom. Has she gotten in too deep, or will she need a new contract addendum, extending their marriage forever?

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I saw a spectacular male underwear model on a huge billboard in Marks and Spencers. Nobody in the store (or even marks and Spencer’s HQ in London) could tell me who he was, but we all agreed he looked Spanish. So I had to write a Spaniard, didn’t I? Soon after that I holidayed in Ibiza and fell in love with the White Isle. Watching a very wealthy couple get off their flashy yacht and then dine expensively at a posh harborside restaurant was also a defining moment. I wanted to write about a poor but proud British woman, feed her lobster and champagne, and then plonk a gigantic diamond ring on her finger!

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

Currently I have a few category length projects going on in varying states of completion. I can’t say too much about those, but they have Sicilian, Australian-Greek and American heroes.  I also have a couple of longer novels simmering away and a head full of inappropriate ideas.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I have so many different favorite writers I’m not sure where to begin but they would include India Grey, Anne McAllister, George Orwell, Salman Rushdie and Howard Jacobson.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

I don’t think any one author has influenced my writing style but a few editors have certainly helped me hone it! I write more compactly these days, less flowery prose, shorter sentences, snappier dialogue. It works better with short category romance. But I still love beautiful words, Salman Rushdie is very good for that sort of thing, reading his prose is like eating Christmas pudding with ice cream ; a sensory feast of contrast,  rich and delicious.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

Ha! Easier said than done with an eBook! I have done a random slither with the mouse on the final PDF and …

Farmer’s daughter, Helen, has just had her bottom affectionately slapped by Ricardo Almanza under the sheets of his massive bed on his superyacht. It’s the morning after their Marriage of convenience wedding night. They didn’t get much sleep …

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

My To Read Pile is massive and that doesn’t include all the juicy downloads on my Kindle! I’m desperate to read every single Entangled Indulgence releases, and the Brazens – but time isn’t on my side at the moment. There’s also a big bag of signed books I brought back from a recent romantic fiction festival which are tempting me very badly. Hopefully I’ll be able to get stuck in over the Christmas holidays.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I’d like to thank you very much for having me here today on Books-n-Kisses. It’s been lovely! I love to hear from readers too, you can find me in the following places:
