It’s not an easy task when her daily memos include lines like, “new equipment is needed because the old equipment was destroyed by a temper tantrum involving dragonfire.”
The job puts her in the path of Dr. Will Camody, a mysterious shifter who’s returned to Mystic Bayou after a long absence only to find that he’s now considered an outsider. To make matters worse, the rift – a tear in the fabric of the universe that is leaking supernatural energy into the bayou – is unraveling at an alarming rate. Now Sonja and Will must team up to fix the rift and save Mystic Bayou from certain disaster, all while their own romance is heating up. Can they have a future together while the whole world is falling apart?
REVIEW:
Oh my sweet tea!! Sonja finally gets her story!! *Happy Dance*
I really enjoyed this story! It was great to see tough as nails Sonja find her weakness. Who just happens to be in the form of a Selkie. Will is great too! He is just the perfect amount of damaged for Sonja. It was great to watch (listen) them both overcome their insecurities about a relationship. I can’t wait to see what is next in this series!!! I really really hope that we will learn more about Mr. & Mrs. Fong!!
As always I listened to this book on audio. Thank you Audible.com for making this book free to members :). Amanda Ronconi is amazing as always!! And even though I am not a fan of the dual narrators in an audiobook Jonathon Davis is growing on me. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

What’s New: Kelly gives The Institute by Stephen King 4 Stars!

TITLE: The Institute
CHARACTERS: Luke Ellis, Avery Dixon and the other kids of the Institute
AUTHOR: Stephen King
NARRATOR: Santino Fontana
RUN TIME: 18 Hours & 59 Minutes
PUBLICATION DATE: September 10, 2019
ORDER LINKS: Audible | Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King, the most riveting and unforgettable story of kids confronting evil since It—publishing just as the second part of It, the movie, lands in theaters.
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis’s parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there’s no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents—telekinesis and telepathy—who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and ten-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in Front Half. Others, Luke learns, graduated to Back Half, “like the roach motel,” Kalisha says. “You check in, but you don’t check out.”
In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines. If you don’t, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute.
As psychically terrifying as Firestarter, and with the spectacular kid power of It, The Institute is Stephen King’s gut-wrenchingly dramatic story of good vs. evil in a world where the good guys don’t always win.
REVIEW:
Well now…..
The Institute is a classic Stephen King with all the “What the heck?’, ‘OMG could that really happen ?’, and the ‘I will never be able to trust that gut feeling without questioning everything’. The Institute was not scary like It or Pet Cemetery, but it was highly disturbing and will make you wonder.
There are a lot of moving parts in this story and listening on audio was a little confusing at the very beginning. Trying to figure out who and why we were following certain characters. But Mr. King does a great job of putting everything in order and give us as many answers as possible.
This is my first audiobook narrated by Santino Fontana. Mr. Fontana does a really good job bring the characters alive. My only struggle (and I think I struggle with a lot of male narrators) is the female voices. There were a few of them that I just wasn’t wild about. But other then that it was a wonderfully long audiobook.
Fans of Stephen King will enjoy this latest installment to his amazing library of classics.

This time, the Psy have to find a real answer to their problems–if one exists. Or their race will soon go extinct in a cascade of violence. The answer begins with an empath who is attuned to monsters–and who is going to charm a wolf into loving her despite his own demons.
REVIEW:
Another wonderful, wonderful story from Nalini Singh. Wolf Rain is the third installment in the Trinity Series but the 18th book in the overall PsyChangeling series. I really loved this story from start to finish. Everything from the multiple story arcs to the love story of Alexei and Memory to all of the cameos by my favorite character Judd. Everything about this book was wonderful.
I can’t wait to see what Nalini has in story for this world next.
Angela Dawe does an amazing job narrating as always. I am totally in love with her talent to be able to do so many voices. It is so great that she has been the voice of the PsyChangeling series. I am already excited to the next book and to be able to listen to Angela.

What’s New: Kelly reviews First Dangle And Other Stories by Kevin Hearne
TITLE: First Dangle and other Stories
SERIES #: The Iron Druid Chronicles
AUTHOR: Kevin Hearne
NARRATOR: Luke Daniels
RUN TIME: 4 Hours & 16 Minutes
PUBLICATION DATE: June 5, 2019
ORDER LINKS: Audible | Amazon| B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Owen and his sloth, Slomo, are off to see the world when Coriander, Herald Extraordinary of the First among the Fae, interrupts to ask for the tiny favor of solving a supernatural murder. That sets the pair off on a trail that leads from Granada, Spain, to London, England and then to Austin, Texas. Owen and Slomo will have to outwit an Irish goddess of wisdom, some nasty spriggans, and streak across the Kew Gardens to find the culprit. They’re going to see the world after all—just not the way they thought.
This collection also includes other Iron Druid stories. “The Naughtiest Cherub” is narrated by Loki and takes place directly before the events of Scourged, book 9. “The Waters” is narrated by Granuaile and takes place after the events of Scourged. And “Friendly Emily” is a piece of science fiction that appeared in Fireside magazine.
The audiobook edition will also include a recording of “The Chapel Perilous” recorded by Luke Daniels for the first time; that story is sold separately in ebook.
REVIEW:
First Dangle and other stories is a fun visit to the Iron Druid Chronicles world. A couple of these stories are re-record by Luke Daniels from previous analogies. It was really nice to hear these stories all in Luke’s talented voice. We get a story from Loki, Granuaile and of course Atticus. But the gem of this collection is Owen and Slomo’s adventure. How can you go wrong with a murder Sloth on your side.
I really enjoyed this book and I hope that Kevin will give us more stories in the IDC soon. I am excited for the new spin off Ink & Sigil too. But the IRC, Atticus and Oberon will always have a special place in my heart. Plus, I really really want another Atticus and the Morrigan story.
As always Luke brings these characters to life in a way that I am not sure any other narrator could. Great job Luke!!! Can’t wait to hear more!!!

Winter Romance Wednesday! Kimberly reviews Coming Home For Christmas by RaeAnne Thayne
TITLE: Coming Home For Christmas
SERIES #: Haven Point #10
CHARACTERS: Elizabeth & Luke
AUTHOR: RaeAnne Thayne
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/24/19
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Hearts are lighter and wishes burn a little brighter at Christmas…
Elizabeth Hamilton has been lost. Trapped in a tangle of postpartum depression and grief after the death of her beloved parents, she couldn’t quite see the way back to her husband and their two beautiful kids…until a car accident stole away her memories and changed her life. And when she finally remembered the sound of little Cassie’s laugh, the baby powder smell of Bridger and the feel of her husband’s hand in hers, Elizabeth worried that they’d moved on without her. That she’d missed too much. That perhaps she wasn’t the right mother for her kids or wife for Luke, no matter how much she loved them.
But now, seven years later, Luke finds her in a nearby town and brings Elizabeth back home to the family she loves, just in time for Christmas. And being reunited with Luke and her children is better than anything Elizabeth could have imagined. As they all trim the tree and bake cookies, making new holiday memories, Elizabeth and Luke are drawn ever closer. Can the hurt of the past seven years be healed over the course of one Christmas season and bring the Hamiltons the gift of a new beginning?
REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is a different kind of holiday story. Elizabeth is suffering from postpartum depression after the birth of her youngest so she does the only thing she thinks she can. She leaves her family behind.
When Elizabeth’s family comes looking for her she doesn’t know how to tell them what she is feeling and explain the help she needs to more than just talking to a counselor.
But as always the holidays can bring families together.
The thing I liked about this story is that it addresses the very real problem of postpartum depression. This is not talked about as often as it should be or explained to pregnant women that it can be extreme. Yes it usually isn’t but women can and have killed their own children because of this condition. And this story brings the seriousness to light.
While I will not say this is a feel good put you in the mood for Christmas story this is a story that is a roller coaster of emotions.

by Jennae ValeBlurb:
Donal wasn’t surprised at the light tap on his door. Although he’d tried his best to quiet her, Elena’s continued crying was sure to wake Tina. He should feel bad about that but he had to admit he was glad to see her.
“Come in,” he said.
“Is she alright?” Tina asked, going immediately to the cradle.
“I’ve been rocking her, but she still cries.” How was a person to know what babies wanted when they just cry and cry? Every time she stirred he’d sat up and gently rocked the cradle. That had worked through most of the night, but now she was just crying for no reason and the rocking wasn’t working.
“Oh, you poor baby.” She reached into the cradle and rubbed Elena’s belly before lifting her into her arms. “Do you mind if I sit?” Tina asked.
He patted the edge of the bed to let her know he didn’t mind. He’d propped himself on one elbow and made sure he was covered from the waist down. Tina rubbed Elena’s back and gently rocked back and forth. In no time, Elena was snuggled into her neck and yawning, she was still fussing but the crying had stopped. So rocking did work, he was the one doing it wrong. Although truth be told, he was quite sure that if he was allowed to snuggle into Tina’s neck, he would find peace there, too.
“You must be tired,” Tina said.
Donal stifled a yawn. “Nae. I be fine.”
She shook her head at him and rolled her eyes. “You don’t have to be the big, strong man around me, you know.”
She thought him big and strong, which pleased him. Tina placed Elena on the bed and continued to rub her belly. “I think she’s got a tummy ache.”
That made him sit up completely alert. “What can be done?” He hadn’t even considered that the bairn could be in pain.
“I don’t know, but this seems to be helping.”
There was magic in those hands, he thought. Elena’s fussing, turned to whimpers and then disappeared altogether as she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Tina continued gently rubbing and Donal lay back in the bed feeling the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders by a wee lass from the future. He closed his eyes and felt the bed shift as Tina lay across the foot of the bed. His lips curved upward. Some how she had taken all his worries from him, leaving him in a more peaceful place. What would he do when she left him… left them? It was something he didn’t wish to think about, so instead he pretended she was staying and saw himself in a small cottage with her at his side and his wee daughter playing at their feet. It was a pleasant thought and one he was determined to make come true.
