Cover Reveal of Jacey Conrad & Gia Corona’s From Russia with Claws

The ladies of From Russia with Claws have stopped by to share their new cover.  I think it is pretty amazing. But before they share they wanted to talk a little. Or I should say they are kicking me off the blog and taking over…..

BUT….. before they take over let me tell you a little about the ladies.

Jacey Conrad is a sushi-loving, pop culture nerd living in the South with her high school sweetheart.  She delights in horribly made mutant shark movies and watching Sean Bean die in his various cinematic incarnations.  To keep up with Jacey on twitter, go to https://twitter.com/JaceyConrad

Gia Corona loves boots, boys, and bourbon, not necessarily in that order. When she’s not actively stalking Michael Fassbender and his abdominals, she’s watching questionable television or reading comics. You can find her at twitter.com/Gia_writes

Okay I am getting the evil eye. Time for me to leave. Please be nice to my blog ladies.

Gia: I saw this on my FB feed and felt that I needed to know—IMMEDIATELY—what Jacey and I would be if we had to be a Disney henchbeing/sidekick/insert random dudebro thing here. Here we go

WHICH MENACING DISNEY DUO ARE YOU AND YOUR BFF?

1) Where would you rather live?

Gia: Well, since Jacey and I already wrote a series (Facile Restaurant) of short stories set in New Orleans because we loved the food, I’ve got to go with New Orleans. Not only for the food, but because Trashy Diva and Fluevog both have shops there. Just take all our money, NOLA. Damn.

Jacey: I also put down NOLA, because we assimilated waaaay too easily when we were there for a conference. An entire culture based on delicious food and irresponsible amounts of booze? We’re hooooome!

2) What was the last bad thing you did?

Gia: This was a tough one, since I have to take into account Jacey’s crimes, as small as they are. I went with Emotionally Hurt Someone because very rarely will that lead to arrest and, even though Jacey recently might have engaged in some more physical shenanigans, I feel like the emotional trauma she put HERSELF through far outweighs the physical harm to anyone in her sparring class.

Jacey: That’s true and also the answer I chose. I tend to torture myself when I feel like I’ve hurt someone’s feelings. But after I stepped on a guy’s crotch during a hip-throw gone awry, I shrugged it off and told him, “If you don’t like it, take a knitting class.” Gia is above petty crime and pretty restrained when it comes to her violent urges. Verbally knocking someone the hell out? She does not hold back.

3) How long have you known your BFF?

Gia: Not very long. We met and just got on like a house afire. Maybe literally. YOU DON’T KNOW MY LIFE!

Jacey: It’s very strange, we only met three years ago? And yes, we started talking about movies, fandoms, books, and it was like I’d found my snark soul twin.

4) What Disney song sums up a night on the town with you and your BFF?

Gia: Poor Unfortunate Souls from The Little Mermaid. Because really. We are a bartender’s worst nightmare.

Jacey: I put down Topsy Turvy from Hunchback of Notre Dame, because we’re that kind of fun.

5) What do you and your BFF bond over?

Gia: Movies. Specifically hot men in movies.

Jacey: I put down work, since we met at a work related event.  (hangs head in shame.)

6) How often to you and your BFF argue?

Gia: Never. We are delightful broads who laugh a LOT.

Jacey: Never. We really don’t. I wouldn’t say we’re easy going, because we’re both pretty opinionated, but happily, our opinions line up pretty often.

7) On a scale of 1-6 (6 being the highest), how menacing are you and your BFF?

Gia: This was hard because we sort of cancel each other out. Jacey is incredibly nice in public and has a face that makes people want to talk to her about the weirdest things. I, however, have cultivated a truly epic resting bitchface that is terrifying. It saves me a lot of hassle of having to interact with, well, anybody. I think I’m meaner than Jacey, but then again, animated birds braid her hair every morning, so there you go. I put us down for a 3.

Jacey: That explains the feathers. For the record, I’m pretty nice in private too, though I do curse like a longshoreman. Gia, on the other hand, while she does have an epic RBF, is a very kind person with crazy amounts of personal integrity. So I put us down as a 3.

8) What Disney animal would you want as a pet?

Gia: There’s a Pegasus as a choice? Hell yes, who wouldn’t want a flying horse! You’d never sit stuck in traffic again!

Jacey: Why would you want a dog when you could have a Pegasus? You can’t get a Pegasus at the pound!

We both got Madame Medusa’s alligators from the Rescuers!

Madame Medusa

Go take the test for yourself  “WHICH MENACING DISNEY DUO ARE YOU AND YOUR BFF?”  and then come back and tell us who you got!!!

As promised here is the cover of From Russia with Claws.

FromRussia_Front_v2

When Alpha female Galina Sudenko agreed to attend her distant cousin’s birthday party, she wasn’t counting on meeting the devastatingly handsome and powerful Rom Alpha, Andrey Lupesco, or having her sexy times with him interrupted by the murder of her idiot brother-in-law, Sergei. But such is life when your father is one of the most powerful werewolves within Seattle’s supernatural Russian organized crime syndicate.

Not content with being just a pretty face and good breeding stock, Galina sets out to make her mark within the family. But in doing so, she runs afoul of her eldest brother, Alexei, the heir apparent to the family dynasty. He has no intention of ceding his position without a fight.

Andrey and Galina’s burgeoning romance is threatened when she discovers that before his death, Irina’s husband, Sergei, hijacked Andrey’s shipment of the werewolf drug, Bullet, a synthetic drug that gives the supernatural creatures a cocaine-like high. Sergei’s theft means that Andrey had a reason to have Sergei killed, leaving Galina to decide whether to risk trusting Andrey even as her feelings for him deepen.

As her brother Alexei’s behavior becomes more erratic, Galina must find the missing shipment, prove to her family that she’ll be a capable leader, and decide whether her lover Andrey can be trusted before she can hope to challenge her brother for his position as head of the family.

A tale of sexy werewolves, forbidden love, family power struggles, and danger closing in, Gia Corona and Jacey Conrad’s From Russia With Claws will leave you howling for more!

Sheldon interviews Roland about Alyssa the heroine from A Sorceress of His Own + a giveaway

From the Bestselling author of the Immortal Guardians series comes a new paranormal historical romance that inspired it all, and is sure to enchant fans new and old!

Thank you for joining me! I’m thrilled to be here today, celebrating the release of A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN, the first book in my new series The Gifted Ones and my first historical romance. Every time I release a new book, I like to introduce readers to the characters they’ll find in it via character interviews. Since men and women in the middle ages didn’t interview each other for e-newsletters, I’ve decided to let Sheldon (a popular human character in my Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series) interview Roland, a powerful Immortal Guardian who appears in both series.

Sheldon: Hey, man. Thanks for doing another interview.

Roland: Sarah asked me to do it.

Sheldon: *lips twitch* And you’d do anything to make her happy?

Roland: Of course.

Sheldon: That is so weird.

Roland: *arches a brow* Rumor has it you would do anything to please Tracy.

Sheldon: Really? You, uh . . . you heard that?

Roland: Yes.

Sheldon: *flustered* Well, that’s different. I’m normal. You’re . . . you.

Roland: *narrows eyes*

Sheldon: Come on. Everyone knows how antisocial you are. It’s just weird seeing you act all lovey dovey around Sarah.

Roland: *sighs* Is this what you wanted to talk about in this interview — my relationship with Sarah and how swiftly your insolence will compel me to kick your arse?

Sheldon: *laughs* No. I actually wanted to ask you about something else. I interviewed Marcus a few days ago and he mentioned a gifted one named Alyssa.

Roland: *gaze sharpening* Alyssa? The Earl of Westcott’s wisewoman?

Sheldon: *surprised* Yes. You remember her?

Roland: Absolutely. How did her name come up in the conversation?

Sheldon: I asked him who the first gifted one he met was, outside of family.

Roland: Ah.

Sheldon: You met her yourself?

Roland: Yes. I met her whole family actually.

Sheldon: That was, like, eight hundred years ago. How did you remember that?

Roland: I suppose it’s a combination of the advanced DNA all gifted ones like myself possess, coupled with the virus that lends me immortality and prevents me from aging. The memories of immortals don’t fade with time the way those of humans do.

Sheldon: That’s awesome and sucks all at the same time. I imagine there are some things you’d like to forget.

Roland: *expression darkens ominously* If we forget our mistakes, then we won’t learn from them.

Sheldon: *swallows* Yeah, back to Alyssa. So . . . Alyssa was a gifted one like you back in the 12th century.

Roland: Yes. She actually came to be quite powerful.

Sheldon: Marcus said she could heal with her hands and read emotions with a touch.

Roland: Among other things.

Sheldon:   You’re renowned for disliking and distrusting . . . pretty much everyone. Yet you sound like you liked Alyssa.

Roland: I admired her a great deal. She was, quite frankly, gutsy as hell. Those like us who bore special gifts`tended to inspire fear and hatred in those who distrusted anyone who was different. Our gifts were more often than not associated with evil than they were with miracles. And we were frequently blamed for things we didn’t do.

Sheldon: Like what?

Roland: If drought struck, a gifted one’s “sorcery” was surely responsible. If a cow’s milk dried up, then the resident gifted one must have done it. If a man’s health failed, he must have been cursed by the gifted one. As a result, many a gifted one was slain.

Sheldon:   That’s infuriating.

Roland: *shrugs* It’s the way of the world. Little has changed. Just look at the trouble we Immoral Guardians have faced in recent years.

Sheldon: True.

Roland: Most of us gifted ones hid our unusual abilties as best we could for our own protection.

Sheldon: I don’t blame you.

Roland: But Alyssa . . . *shakes his head and smiles* She found a way to use hers openly.

Sheldon: As Lord Dillon’s wisewoman.

Roland: Yes. Her grandmother served as Lord Dillon’s father’s wisewoman, you see. When Lord Dillon assumed the title, Alyssa took her grandmother’s place with none the wiser. Lord Dillon was widely feared, thanks to his ferocity on the battlefield and his reticent nature. So Alyssa was able to use her gifts to counsel him and to heal the injured and sick without worrying so much about being slain. All were so afraid of Lord Dillon that none would dare incur his wrath by harming his trusted wisewoman. And, since everyone believed she was the same wisewoman who served Dillon’s father and grandfather before him, some even began to believe her immortal and, thus, capable of exacting retribution against any who sought to slay her.

Sheldon: That was pretty slick.

Roland: Yes, it was.

Sheldon: You sound like you admired Lord Dillon, too.

Roland: I did. His skills with a sword rivaled Seth’s.

Sheldon: Dude.

Roland: Exactly. I even disobeyed Seth’s orders not to interfere and joined Lord Dillon in battle once just so I could have the privilege of fighting alongside him.

Sheldon: And?

Roland: It was worth the punishment Seth dealt out afterward.

Sheldon: You like to fight, don’t you?

Roland: I’ve been a warrior for nearly a thousand years. I’m very good at it.

Sheldon: Maybe you should have spent a little more of that time improving your people skills

Roland: *arches a brow* Sarah has no problem with my people skills.

Sheldon: Which is why immortals who have never met her assume she’s a few cards short of a full deck.

Roland: *eyes flash bright amber* What?! Who said that?

Sheldon: *scramble out of his chair* Not me! It wasn’t me! Don’t kill the messenger!

Roland: *growls* You’re the only one currently within reach.

Sheldon: Is that my cell phone ringing? *fumbles in his pocket* I think my cell phone is ringing. *backs toward the door* Thanks for the interview, man. I gotta book. *slams the door behind him*

Sarah: *enters, lips twitching* That was mean.

Roland: *grins* But fun. I thought he’d never leave. *pulls her into his arms captures her lips in a long, hot kiss* Now where were?

Awe Roland is so awesome. Now let’s take a look at A Sorceress of His Own.

A Sorceress of His Own

The Gifted Ones #1

Sorceress of His Own

From the New York Times bestselling author of the acclaimed Immortal Guardians series comes an enchanting new series full of romance, danger, and loyalty: The Gifted OnesSince the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear, but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence. Perhaps because she garners the same fear in others that he does himself.

For seven years, Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon’s side, counseling him from the shadows, healing him with her hands, and staving off the worst of his loneliness while his fearsome reputation keeps others at bay. Blessed–or cursed–with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him beneath umbral robes that lead Dillon and his people to believe she is the same aged wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon’s life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything–even the wrath of his king–to be with her.

Suzanne Brockmann on “Home Fire Inferno”

I write about a SEAL team, so my military heroes tend to show up in a rather large group! And although Home Fire Inferno focuses on Navy SEAL Dan Gillman (whose wife, Jenn, is about to have a baby!), you’ll also see quite a bit of Izzy Zanella, along with Mark Jenkins, Jay Lopez, and the inimitable Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok. Readers will also get to meet the SEAL with the face of a serial killer and the intriguing nickname HoboMofo . . . who happens to live with his mother and his ten-year-old daughter. But all the SEALs in this story would be in full agreement that family is the one word answer to the question “What is your military hero/ine most excited about returning to after active duty?”

Honoring love and family is a long-held tradition in the U.S. Navy. A ritual called the First Kiss is still practiced for ships returning to their homeports. (Google “US Navy first kiss tradition” to see pictures that will brighten your day!) All married sailors, officer and enlisted alike, can take part in a lottery in which the winner is the first to disembark, greet, and kiss his or her spouse after many months away from home. It’s a huge deal, with boatloads of ceremony involved. This is the big, bad U.S. Navy, part of the most powerful military force in the world. But everyone—from admirals to seamen recruits—unabashedly recognize that the most important part of their homecoming lies in the arms of the men and women waiting for them.

Julie Ann Walker on “Hot As Hell”

Despite running missions to the ass ends of the earth, Navy SEAL Michael “Mad Dog” Wainwright from Hot as Hell is a family man at heart.  Born and raised in Atlantic City, he longs for the sea when he’s conducting sorties in the desert.  Hankers for the boardwalk when he’s belly deep in some bog in the jungle.  And craves a slice of Tony Bologney’s pizza when he’d eaten one-too-many MREs – meals ready to eat – to count.  So when Michael gets time off from missiles and mayhem, you can bet your bottom dollar he races home to be with his two brothers and his mother and father. Together, they make a night of pizza, walks along the boardwalk, salt water taffy, and some tossing of the dice at one of Atlantic City’s seaside casinos.  It’s a bit of normalcy in a life that’s otherwise filled by the extraordinary.  A bit of fun in a world Michael knows can be full of horror and woe.  A bit of life to go along with so much death.  Michael “Mad Dog” Wainwright lives for those moments, for those homecomings.  They’re what he fights for…

Catherine Mann on “In Plain Sight”

Tech Sergeant Gavin “Bubbles” Novak isn’t known for a sparkling wit, but his steely eyed focus on the job has made him the go-to guy in the most stressful of pararescue missions. Until a fateful military mission leaves him blind and ends his Air Force career. With nowhere else to go, he returns to his small Kentucky hometown with his seeing-eye dog and takes a job as a 9-1-1 operator. His first day on the job brings a voice from the past, the only woman who has ever blasted through that tough shell to reach his soul – his high school sweetheart Stacie Curry. She’s being stalked by her abusive ex-husband and he’s broken into her home.

Stacie Curry thought she made the safe choice in marrying the hometown boy rather than leaving with brooding outsider Gavin. But her decision has led to a nightmare existence. Since her divorce, she is stalked and terrorized by her ex. When she calls 9-1-1, she’s stunned to hear Gavin’s deep voice on the other end of the line. And when she sees him face to face afterward, she’s shocked – and heartbroken – to learn he’s blind. But she soon finds Gavin will let nothing stand in the way of protecting her.

Learning to overcome the loss of his sight and his Air Force career, Gavin comes to her rescue, protecting her, helping expose her ex … and rekindling their old romance with a blazing-hot flame.

Tina Wainscott on “Beauty and the Marine”

Once the gorgeous golden boy of his small Georgia town, Marine Griff Tate returned home scarred from an explosion in Afghanistan. Now, the only people he sees are his family and the out-of-towners he takes hunting and fishing on their private acreage. Griff thinks that all he wants is to be with his family in the comfort of the woods in which he spent his youth.  He can barely look at himself in the mirror—how can he expect a woman to want to wake up to his ugly mug every morning?  But even a battle-scarred veteran needs love … even if he doesn’t know it!

Anne Elizabeth on “SEALed with Passion”

Navy SEAL LT Cmdr Jonah Melo has his feet back on American soil. That’s when the itchy-need begins–to get back into the action and/or to fill his time with something useful. Luckily, he’s got an opportunity to jump in and do a building project for the Wounded Warriors. This particular house is special because it’s going to be the home of his long-time friend Kevin Toms. Melo has participated in a lot of builds before, but seeing his buddy in a home that enables his happiness and mobility is going to top the list of experiences. If only he could be as blessed in love as he is in friendship.

M.L. Buchman on “NSDQ”

U.S. Army Captain Lois Lang knows only one thing, flying combat search-and-rescue helicopters into the heart of the battlezone and getting her people back out. And when a CSAR mission gone wrong forces her to make the ultimate sacrifice—for her it isn’t a choice. Her crew and the wounded they’ve recovered always come first.

But the battle that awaits her will test her limits. She can learn to walk again, but she must discover the strength to face what to do when she can’t fly.

Kate SeRine on “Torn”

During his deployment, the thing that kept Joe Dawson going was the thought of returning home to Sadie—his best friend since childhood and the woman he’s been in love with for as long as he can remember. But a mission gone wrong has left him scarred—both inside and out. And when he and Sadie finally share an unexpected moment of passion, Joe has a hard time believing that Sadie could have feelings for the damaged man he has become and worries that her heart is being ruled by pity and not love.

Those doubts are compounded now that he’s set to resume his duty as a deputy sheriff. With his father and three brothers already making names for themselves with successful law enforcement careers, the pressure’s on, leaving Joe torn between honoring the family tradition and leaving behind the only career he’s ever known outside the military.

Lea Griffith on her inspiration for “War Games”

There are many things I could tell you about my stepfather. He married a wonderful woman with a tiny, 6 year old girl from a previous marriage who still wondered why her daddy couldn’t be a daddy—and then he became a stepfather and helped raise her. A strict disciplinarian he nevertheless was giving to a fault. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. (Side note: he refused to call it a “conflict”. He always said, “When people kill people like we killed people that’s a goddamn war.” Finally, I guess I’d tell you he was one of the most tortured souls I have ever known. In the midst of his torment, the nightmares and flashbacks, the anger that always simmered just below the surface there was a strength to be admired and it is that strength that makes him one of my heroes.

My stepdad was born and raised in a little town called Tennille, Georgia. It’s nothing but country with field after field of corn and cotton and country folk living a simple life. When young men came of age they either went into the family business of cotton and corn or they went into the service and this is the route William Thomas Howell, Jr. took. He entered the Air Force and lost any innocence he might have once had running tactical rescue and recovery missions in Vietnam of which he would say nothing about. I remember asking him what war was like and he refused to answer. Then one day when he was talking about Vietnam—not the war, mind you, but the country itself—I asked him what he missed the most about home when he was “in country”. He smiled and for some reason my gut clenched and I remember wishing I hadn’t asked the question. But then he answered and I had to smile with him. “Lightning bugs,” he said. “Lightning bugs and Coca Cola.”

My stepdad passed away almost nine years ago. He has missed the births of several of his grandchildren and the marriage of one of his children. But in the midst of his loss, he left a legacy that includes perseverance, giving and most of all a love of Coca Cola.

Oh, and the lightning bugs. I cannot forget the tiny bugs with the “lights in their butts”. It seems the smallest bug made a light big enough for my stepdad to yearn for. They make me smile every time spring comes. And yes, because he made me smile with his longing for lightning bugs I taught my girls how to catch them and put them in a mason jar for a little while before you release them. This more than anything else has helped me remember him.

Molly Harper’s Half Moon Hollow Series

The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires

Half Moon Hollow #1

Half Moon #1

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow’s only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she’d like. Running all their daylight errands—from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg—gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship—and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.
Cal – who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way – offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he’s imperious, unfriendly and doesn’t seem to understand the difference between “employee” and “servant,” Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him – particularly those concerning nudity.

Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue & romance—in the form of her very own stray vampire

Driving Mr. Dead

Half Moon Hollow #1.5

Half Moon #1.5

HELL ON WHEELS

After failing as a magician’s assistant, a photographer, and most recently, a bride, Miranda Puckett takes a position as a driver for Beeline, Half-Moon Hollow’s premiere vampire concierge service.

Miranda’s assignment? Driving Collin Sutherland, the world’s most fastidious vampire from Washington to Kentucky, so he can deliver a mysterious black case to Council official Ophelia Lambert.

Collin, a paranoid, aristocratic vampire with a debilitating fear of flying, refuses to let the case out of his sight. Miranda needs this time on the road to decide whether to permanently cut her ties with the fiance that had an “emotional affair” with a childhood pal, but Collin’s neatnik tendencies are driving her around the bend. The man acts as if leaving a fast food wrapped on the passenger seat is reason for a full-on CDC de-contamination scrub-down of the car. All she can do is promise to stop intentionally doing the things that make his stiff upper lip twitch with irritation.

As more and more mishaps occur on the road trip from hell, Miranda and Collin work together to meet his delivery deadline. Hotel rooms are destroyed. Beloved cars are defiled. And somewhere along the line, client-driver hostilities become snarky flirtation.

Will Collin and Miranda make it to the Hollow in one piece? And if they do, will Miranda leave old, safe relationships behind for something new and well, just plain weird?

He would have laughed at the idea of fate and soul mates. The professor of his Human  Resources and Development class had once said that the concept of there only being one person out there for you was utterly false. That you could fall in love— and love—many different people in your life.
He’d believed the exact same thing until one day a beautiful chestnut-headed, brown-eyed, adorably shy woman had walked into his life and his existence had been irrevocably changed. He’d known since the very first time she’d shyly accepted a dinner invitation with him that he was already in so deep that he had no hope of ever finding his way out. He hadn’t wanted to.
Gavin was a man who was decisive, could handle any issue flung his way. He had the total package, or so women liked to tell him. Good-looking, charismatic, dark and brooding and wealthy. He was no naïve fool. The last attribute was his most compelling one. The  women  he’d  been  with  hadn’t  likely given thought to anything beyond the tag that was solidly fixed on his forehead.
Billionaire.
He’d actually laid eyes on Ginger the very first time, ironically, when he’d been out with another woman. He’d had his en- tire evening planned, in fact. Nice dinner, intimate atmosphere, flirt with his date, whose name completely escaped him now, and then go back to her place to have sex before returning to his own apartment.
No one came to his home or invaded his private sanctuary. Sex was always at his date’s place or in a hotel, and he always left afterward. To some women that made him a cold bastard, but he was hardly hypocrite enough to indulge in postcoital cuddle when he’d made it clear that there would be no emotional entanglements.
He hadn’t stayed when he’d dropped his date off, much to her disappointment. His mind had been too occupied with the sweet, smiling waitress with big brown shy eyes who blushed when he stared at her for too long.
He wasn’t normally so ill-mannered or lacking in social graces, but he’d  been captivated by her from the moment he’d laid eyes on her, and so the next night, he’d  gone back to the restaurant. Alone. He’d made certain he was seated in her section of tables and he’d proceeded to be the most demanding of customers, commanding her attention every few minutes for some trumped-up need.
It had taken three agonizingly long weeks before he’d been able to talk her into going out with him to dinner. Three weeks of self-induced celibacy because he’d known that she would be the last woman in his bed forever, so he hadn’t minded the wait.
It had then taken him six more months of dating before he took things further than heated good-night  kisses and feeling the warmth of her soft body against his while he held her.
It had been the best six months of his life.
The night he’d finally taken her to bed and very gently made her his, he’d proposed and she’d cried all over him.
It had taken him three more months of her practically living with him to talk her into accepting his marriage proposal, but once he’d gained her acceptance, his patience had fled. He’d hustled her in front of a judge at the very first opportunity and had claimed her for all time.
After a blissful year of having her entirely to himself—and he was extremely possessive and selfish of his time with her— she’d  begun talking about having his child. He hadn’t  thought he could be happier than he was, but then he’d begun imagining sweet little girls who looked just like their mama and he’d been determined to fill their home with a dozen if that was what she wanted.

And that was where they’d hit a brick wall.

Jennifer’s Review of In His Keeping

Review (4 Stars): Maya Banks is one of my favorite authors and I was very excited to read the next story in the Slow Burn series after finishing Keep Me Safe.  In this story, Arial is a young woman with a very special gift and has spent most of her life keeping her powers a secret.  When she is violently attacked and those powers save her life and leave her exposed to the people that have been looking for her all her life, Arial has nowhere to go but to Deveraux Security. Beau Deveraux knows exactly what it means to protect someone with psychic powers and when Arial ends up on his doorstep asking for help, he isn’t about to turn her away.  He will protect Arial at all costs and finds himself against an enemy that will do anything to get a hold of Ari and use her powers for their own gain.

I liked Arial a lot.  She went through most of her life protected and safe but when her life was threatened, her telekinetic powers were able to save her but destroyed everything that she did to remain anonymous.  Beau was the perfect guy to help her because he had seen what happened to Caleb and his wife and what it took to protect someone with psychic powers against a serial killer.  By having that experience, it provided him with the insight that you had to have the best of the best to protect these woman.  I loved the chemistry between the two of them and I was amazed at how quickly the pages just flew by.  Ms. Banks is a great storyteller that knows how to write an exciting and suspenseful romantic tale that will keep you up at night.  I’m looking forward to reading the third book in the series and hopefully, this one will be about Tori.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A MAN CONSUMED BY RAGE

Stefan Kennedy is cursed by a gypsy and sentenced to a prison of darkness and despair. A hell that only serves to feed the monster within. Stefan owes it to his friends to find out what happened to them after their run-in with the gypsy, but the mysterious and enchanting Morvan may be a temptation he can’t resist.

A WOMAN’S MAGICAL TOUCH

Morvan has always been a child of the forest. She spends her days using her gifts to calm and heal the animals she encounters. But when she finds herself compelled across clan borders to a mysterious cliff with a wall of strange etchings, she’s helpless to resist. Somehow, Morvan magically brings forth a stranger seemingly more beast than man, yet despite the inherent dangers, she’s driven to help the handsome Highlander. While his appearance in her life may end up shattering the peace she’s worked so hard to find, he could also prove to be the man of her dreams.

REVIEW:
Another good story from Ms. Grant. The Rouge of Scotland stories are all very short and sweet, therefore my review will be too. I really enjoyed reading about Stefan’s journey and the role he played in the evening that lead to them all being locked away. I really like Morvan. I loved that she is touch and gentle all at the same time.
I am very much looking forward to the final book in this series.

Blog Tour & Review: Murder in Merino by Sally Goldenbaum

murder in merino large banner640

I’m delighted to have Sally Goldenbaum here today to talk about her new mystery, Murder in Merino, which is the eighth book in her Seaside Knitters Mystery series.  Please give her a warm welcome.

1. Tell me about your new release.

Murder in Merino is #8 in the Seaside Knitters Mystery series.  (The seventh book, Angora Alibi, will be released in paperback this May as well.)

Murder in Merino takes place in early Autumn as the seaside knitters are preparing for Ben and Nell Endicott’s 40th wedding anniversary.  As the tourists are leaving and plans get underway, a mysterious woman arrives in town, staying at the local B&B.  Her name is Jules Ainsley but that’s about all anyone knows.  Is she a visitor?  A belated vacationer? No one knows for sure–but she becomes a visible figure about town, jogging the paths of Sea Harbor daily and asking lots of questions about the town.

Things become more curious when Izzy and Sam Perry finally put the small house Izzy lived in before marrying Sam on the market, and Jules Ainsley seems determined to buy it–without ever having stepped inside.  But before the open house can be held, a well-loved bartender is found dead in the backyard of the cottage.  When Jules’ name and number are found on the victim’s phone, this slender thread of evidence makes her a person of interest.  Soon the spotlight of suspicion widens to include old friends and town leaders, as a tragic happening, long buried in the sleepy seaside town, is slowly brought to surface and the murderer is found.

2. What inspired you to write mysteries?

I’ve always loved mysteries and read them voraciously from the time I picked up my first Nancy Drew, but my own writing had always focused on other things.  That is, until one fortuitous day when a mystery writing friend asked if I’d be interested in working on a mystery with her.  It was actually a book under contract ( I know…how lucky was I!?!?). She knew I had written other things and thought perhaps our styles would mesh.  She had two contracts (2 different books) to fulfill at the same time and offered me the opportunity to work on one of them with her.  And so I did!  It was a classic mystery and I loved learning the process as we pieced together the clues, the plotting, the characters, etc.  I learned so much from her and was deeply inspired to try it on my own.  So in effect, I was inspired AND mentored through a genre I loved by a wonderful writer…and I have been writing mysteries ever since.

3. What is the most interesting/strange thing that you had to research for your book?

I think maybe it was the geology of Cape Ann, the piece of land north of Boston where my series is set.  Now that may not sound terribly sexy or fascinating, but honestly, it really is (well, maybe not sexy). And it’s important, too, because the area and town of Sea Harbor actually become important characters in the stories, right along with their human counterparts.  Cape Ann is built on bedrock laid down half a billion years ago and it became in our lifetime a hot spot for mining granite (yes–your granite counter tops may have come from Cape Ann!). The area is littered with now-closed quarries, filled now with water and surrounded by lush wildlife.  (And just between you and me, these quarries are PERFECT places to find bodies…)

4. What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on the ninth book in the Seaside knitters mysteries—and now and then, thinking about another mystery idea…with a new character.  It’s always nice to have ideas floating around in the wings.  Much of the ninth book takes place in a hug old mansion by the sea, now housing The Sea Harbor Day School.  All four of the seaside knitters become involved in the school for various reasons–and when a person important to the school is killed, the knitters are pulled into solving another crime.

5. Are there any authors that have influenced you to become a writer?

I suppose that would be nearly every author who has filled my mind with amazing stories and images and transported me out of my ordinary days and life–from EB White to the Brontes and Jane Austen (when I was in high school I used to write crib sheets for older classmates who weren’t enamored of my Elizabethan heroines as I was!) –to PD James, and Kate Atkinson (oh, to be able to weave many lines of plot together the way she does!) to Anna Quindlen and Alice Hoffman–not to mention all the contemporary mystery writers who may not have been the ones who inspired me to become a writer–but who inspire me now, every time I pick up one of their books, and who are far too numerous to mention.

Thank so much for being here today.

Thank you, Jennifer, for taking the time to talk with me.  I’ve loved being here.

Sally became more serious about knitting with the birth of her first grandchild and the creation of the Seaside Knitters mystery series. MURDER IN MERINO

It’s autumn in Sea Harbor and as the tourists leave a mysterious guest arrives. When she’s implicated in a crime the Seaside Knitters must quickly table their knitting project and search out a motif for murder.

Fall is usually a relaxing time in Sea Harbor, but it’s turning out to be a busy season for Izzy Chambers Perry. Not only is she helping the Seaside Knitters make a magnificent throw to celebrate the fortieth wedding anniversary of her aunt and uncle, she and her husband are finally selling the cottage she lived in before they married and had a darling baby girl. To Izzy’s surprise, newcomer Julia Ainsley seems determined to buy the home—although she’s never set foot inside.

But on the day of the open house, things take a tragic turn. A body is uncovered in the cottage’s backyard. When the police find Julia’s name and phone number in the victim’s pocket, this slender thread of evidence makes her a person of interest. Soon the spotlight of suspicion widens to include old friends and town leaders, as a tragic happening, long buried in the sleepy seaside town, is slowly brought to the surface.

Before the Endicotts’ joyful anniversary celebration can be realized, the Seaside Knitters must work to unravel the real reason Julia Ainsley has come to their town and the tangled and tragic ties from the past that bind friends and townsfolk together.

Jennifer’s Review of Murder in Merino

Review (4.25 Stars): I’m fairly new to this series since I have only read a couple of books about this wonderful group of ladies.  With that said, I was so glad that even though I wasn’t completely up to date on the previous books in this series, I could easily follow along with the characters of this delightful mystery.  In this mystery, Izzy is settling down to married life with a beautiful baby girl and has begun the process of selling her cottage that she had before she met her husband, Sam. A mysterious new visitor to town, Jules Ainsley, has everyone talking about this beautiful stranger and how she suddenly seems to be everywhere in town.  Including putting a bid on Izzy’s old cottage without once setting foot in it.  When the body of a beloved bartender is found on Izzy’s property, people start wondering if this beautiful new stranger is more deadly than she appears.

One of the things that I loved about Murder in Merino was the strong sense of community that played out through the novel.  These ladies have been friends for a long time and I liked the idea that everyone in town seemed to genuinely care about one another.  I loved spending time in Sea Harbor and getting to know these characters a little more.  I also enjoyed the complex plot twists of the story and I spent most of the book trying to understand more about Jules Ainsley and what her true motives were for being in Sea Harbor.  Murder in Merino is a great cozy mystery that has charming characters and well-written storyline that will make you want to visit this beautiful seaside community.  I now have to go back and read the rest of the series to catch up on the lives of these characters because I want to make sure I’m ready for when the next book is released in this great series.
