Spotlight Feature of Snowy Fate by Marissa Dobson

I am so excited to have my girl Marissa on the blog as one of my Spotlight Features this month.  I had the great pleasure of reading this book early.  It is a great, fast and lovely novella.  I hope that you enjoy too. So with out future ado  I present to you Snowy Fate…

Fate always knows when you’re ready for love.

The past is catching up with Aspyn Layton. The father she never knew passed away and she is left to deal with his estate. An unexpected snowstorm has her stranded at the one place she didn’t want to be—her father’s house—with a naked man.
Damon Andrews has a secret, one he shared with Aspyn’s father. He must convince Aspyn there is more to life then what she knows. How will she react when she finds out he is a mountain lion, and she is his mate? Their fates are intertwined.
Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, I now reside about an hour from Washington, D.C. I am a lady who likes to keep busy, and am always busy doing something. With two different college degrees, I believe you are never done learning.
Being the first daughter to an avid reader, this gave me the advantage of learning to read at a young age. Since learning to read I have always had my nose in a book. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I started writing down the stories I came up with.
I am blessed with a wonderful supportive husband, Thomas. He is my other half and allows me to stay home and pursue my writing. My writing buddies Max (a cocker spaniel) and Dawne (a beagle mix) are always around to listen to me bounce ideas off them. They might not be able to answer, but they are helpful in their own ways.

Excerpt:
She picked up the fire poker as she looked at the naked man before her. “Who are you?” Even though she was startled by the man who stood before her, she had a feeling that he meant her no harm. A man that sexy couldn’t harm anyone; except to break a girl’s heart. He looked as though he should be posing for Playgirl instead of standing in the cozy living room.
“The better question is who are you and what are you doing here?” he asked as he shook the wet snow off his body. He stood there, not the least bit concerned that he was naked, nor that he was wet from head to toe. Her heart was fluttering, and desire was heating her cheeks. She wanted to explore his toned body with her hands, and her tongue. His dark hair was wind blown into disarray; that served to make him look dangerous, and that much sexier.
“The name’s Aspyn. Now who are you?”
“You’re his daughter,” he said more out of shock, then in question. “I’m Damon Andrews. John, your dad’s lawyer, didn’t think you would be coming to the house, or I would have left.”
Once she heard this man was a friend of her father’s, she quickly squashed the attraction that was building inside her. There was no way she could pursue someone who knew her father. She didn’t want to know any more than she already did about the man who ran out on her and her mother.
“It wasn’t the plan. I agreed to sell the place and his things. I planned to head straight home, but the storm rolled in, leaving me no time to get out of town. I didn’t have anywhere else to go and I didn’t think anyone was living here. The lawyer mentioned the key under the rug if I wanted to stop.” She lowered the weapon as she spoke.
He nodded in understanding. “If there is anything of his you want, please feel free to take it. There are lots of pictures of you.”
“He never gave me anything while he was alive and I don’t want anything now.” The first tear was threatening to fall.
“Hey there, I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m sorry,” he said, crossing the room in two strides.
“It’s not you. It’s just being here, around all this. It’s more than I can handle now. I’m not a woman who cries at the drop of the hat, I don’t know what is wrong with me. All the years he missed, and now it’s too late. This is like crying over spilled milk.”
He gently laid a hand on her shoulder.  “He wouldn’t want you to be upset. He did what he thought was right when you were a child. It might not have been the best decision, but he felt it was the only way. It was the only way to give you a semi-normal childhood, and he regretted that decision every day.”
She looked him in the eye and with fire in her eyes, she lashed back. “I know this is going to sound childish and ungrateful, but then he should have come back for us.” She shook off his hand. “But none of that matters now, it’s too late. What are you doing here? Better yet, why are you naked?”
Taking a step back, he nodded to the cot made in the corner. “I’ve been staying with your father. I’m building a house on the other side of the lake and was living at the hotel. On your dad’s better days, he would come over and helped with the construction. The heat and plumbing aren’t finished yet because of the freezing weather. Your dad invited me to stay until it was finished. When he passed and I found out you didn’t want the house, I put the offer in to buy it. I couldn’t see it sold off to someone who wouldn’t appreciate the beauty of the area. As for my lack of clothing, well that is a long story. Why don’t I make us something to eat? I’m sure you’re starving.”
“That would be great.”
“On one condition … you must read your father’s journal. You need to understand why. It will affect you more than I can explain.” Before she could object he added, “Please. There is stuff in there that you really need to know. I told him time and time again that he needed to find you before it was too late and tell you. But he didn’t listen. The first page is all I am asking. After that, if you don’t want to read any more, I won’t pester you anymore today.”

Interview with Sara Trimble

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Sara Trimble to the blog today. We are going to be talking about her new book Heart Over Mind.

Sara: Thanks so much for letting me visit with you today. I hope everyone enjoys learning about me and my new paranormal romance.

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Sara: Sure. I’m twenty six and a mom of five. I’ve been writing since I was little and it took me years to work up the courage to decide to publish. I chose self publishing because I liked to have full control of what happens with my novel.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Sara: I can’t remember a time I didn’t want to write. When I was in high school, I considered working for a newspaper or magazine. I was always good at writing stories but I feared the publishing world. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my first child that I began working on a novel with the hopes of publishing.

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Sara:  Susan Wiggs, Nora Roberts, Patricia Cornwell and Debbie Macomber are some of my all time favorites. Since I started working for Night Owl Reviews magazine, I’ve discovered new authors I may not have otherwise known about. Allison Brennan, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Paige Tyler, Desiree Holt, and Wendy Corsi Staub are just a few. Each of these women have an incredible talent and I strive to one day have as vast a book collection as them.

Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Sara: Errands, screaming kids, house work, babysitting. This is my day. I don’t have a set routine as most authors do. I stay at home with my eighteen month old so I have to work around his schedule. Once I am able to get him occupied, I anchor myself to the computer and write in brief stents. My muse seems to be nocturnal. I do my best writing late at night, laying in bed with my kids, dog, and husband asleep.

Q5) Can you tell us a little about you book
Sara:  sure. Its a paranormal romance which follows the life altering path of psychiatrist Nala Arpaia. Destined to being a recluse due to the overwhelming ability to read minds, Nala lives a boring routine life. Until one day, when her knight in tight blue jeans comes to whisk her off to a castle in a foreign land, where her long lost uncle awaits.
Nala arrives after multiple attacks from a man determined to kill her and steal her powers. While at Willowbank, Nala learns to overcome her insecurities, how to act on her desires, and makes friends for the first time. She also falls in love.
Convincing Gabriel to give their romance a chance proves to be more challenging than surviving the grasp of the most powerful, and evil, man in the world.

Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
ow
Sara:  I wanted to write a story about the paranormal, but I couldn’t zero in on the one topic I wanted to use, so I delevoped a secret organization of fabled creatures, with mystical beings that protect the magical people of the world.

Q7) What is up next for you?
Sara:  I’m venturing from romance to try my hand at a suspense/thriller novel about an FBI agent who gets called to the end of the Earth Louisiana when a severed arm is found, which belongs to a local teenage girl. There’s over fifteen missing within five years and its up to Gemma Davis to figure out who’s responsible before any more girls go missing.

Q8) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
Sara: I am currently reading the 1nightstand series. I’ve read three of these books and can’t wait to read the rest of them. They are seriously hot erotica books.

Books-n-Kisses: Sara, Thank you so much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to sit down and talk with me.  To learn more about Sara or her books please visit her on her website, http://www.saratrimble.com/

Reviews for two 1 Night Stand Short Stories.

Bound for Pleasure
by Ann Mayburn
1NS story
Football star Tycen Preston has everything he could want, everything but the healing release of subspace that he desperately needs. After four years of searching for the right woman, he finally has the opportunity to indulge in all the dark, forbidden desires that would ruin his carefully crafted image if anyone ever found out.
Lara Hernandez is tired of the weak submissive men that offer her no challenge. She yearns for a strong Alpha male to tame and call her own. A blind date arranged by the mysterious Madam Eve seems to be the perfect arrangement for fulfilling both of their decadent cravings. Unfortunately a scheming paparazzi photographer is hot on their trail, and will do anything he can to get a scandalous picture of Tycen that would destroy his career.
My thoughts:
This was such a fast read that I don’t want to give too much away.  The description of the book is a great indicator of what this story holds for you.
I will tell you that I really enjoyed this story!  It is always fun to see how big, tough guys aren’t always that big and tough.
Sweet Irish Kiss
By Joanne Kenrick
1NS Story
Shaun Bell, a divorced workaholic, spends all his time tending bar in his Irish Pub. He’s ready to love again, but the women who visit his bar are only after his infamous Irish cocktails. At the advice of his darts team over a tanker or two of Beamish, he applies to 1Night Stand to get back into the swing of things and enjoy the company of a woman specially selected for him by Madame Evangeline.
Rachel Taylor has issues. Her father broke her mother’s heart with his cheating and Rachel swore never to let that happen to her, but one ruined relationship after another and she’s realized she’s got to get over being closed off to men. Perhaps a one-night stand is just the baby step she needs to begin to build trust again.
A match seemingly made in heaven…until morning rolls around and Shaun can’t bring himself to say good-bye. Can he win her over with his secret weapon, a Sweet Irish Kiss, or is Rachel still too scared to love?
My thoughts:
While I enjoyed the story line and the interaction between the two main characters, there were times that I was annoyed with how they spoke.    I understand that the author was trying to stay with the Irish them, but at times it bugged me.  But other than that I really liked this story.

Excerpt
Mr. Cain asked, “Did you go over the contract and the checklist?”
“Yes, it’s all very straightforward,” Katherine said.
“And we’re in agreement that this is consensual?” He stood and walked around the desk, stopping directly in front of her.
“Of course.”
“You’ll submit to the background check, blood work, and physical?” All of those were required if she was going to be his sub. It said so in the contract.
“I’ve been tested, and I’ve brought the results. I’m also on the pill.”
“I see,” he said. “You don’t have an issue with the gym I’ve recommended?” The agreement also stated she was to join the gym of his choice where he’d take care of the membership.
“No, I like to work out.”
He glanced down at her body, lingering at her legs for a few seconds before making eye contact with her. “You understand that the checklist is for your benefit. It outlines both hard and soft limits. You need to think it through and decide which acts you’ll try and those you won’t consider. You should also keep in mind that limits can change over time.”
Katherine had no idea this whole set-up would be so involved. She thought she would just go to his house and have sex the way he wanted her to. She was under the notion that was what it meant to submit. She realized she had so much to learn.
“Any questions, Ms. Sierra?” Mr. Cain asked in that sexy southern drawl of his.
Katherine had learned he was originally from Texas but had relocated to New York when his company took off. He was impeccable. Not a hair out of place or a crease in his suit that wasn’t supposed to be there. He stood over Katherine for most of their conversation, and she found it unsettling. He was an extremely intimidating man.
“What happens next? I mean, do we have sex?” She was so out of her element.
“Would you like to have sex right here in my office?” His mouth formed a hard line, causing his jaw to tighten. “Shall I take you on my desk with an office full of people on the other side of my door?”
His words made her realize how innocent she was when it came to his lifestyle.
“Umm, no, of course not,” she answered as she cracked her knuckles. Her face was flush, and her throat was dry. She wondered what she was doing there.
“But as your Dom, I’d be well within my rights to take you fast and hard on my desk,” he informed her. He never raised his voice. It was soft but firm, and he got his point across very effectively. “Is that what you came here for?”
That was precisely what she wanted. Her stomach flipped as the moisture gathered inside her panties, just like it had the first night she’d seen him. This man oozed sex and he knew it.
“Katherine.” He sighed. “What are you doing here?” He looked frustrated, but she didn’t understand why.
“Applying to be your sub,” she said. “And please, call me Kat.”
“As much as I’d like you to be my pet, sweetie, I’ll stick with Katherine.” He smirked and that relaxed her. “Why do you want to be my sub?”
“I want to be dominated.” She hoped that was what he wanted to hear.
“Well, why not have your boyfriend tie you to the bed?” he asked. “It would be much easier than going through all of this.”
Ella Jade has been writing for as long as she can remember. As a child, she often had a notebook and pen with her and now as an adult, the laptop is never far. The plots and dialogue have always played out in her head, but she never knew what to do with them. That all changed when she discovered the EBooks industry. She started penning novels at a rapid pace and now she can’t be stopped.
Ella resides in New Jersey with her husband and two young boys. When she’s not chasing after her kids, she’s busy writing, kickboxing and scrapbooking. She hope’s you’ll get lost in her words.

Musa Publishing Opens its Electronic Doors
After months of editing, designing, contracting, and formatting Musa Publishing launches on October 1, 2011. The E-publisher opens with a large catalogue including Penumbra Speculative Fiction eMag, new works by three bestselling authors, and the full backlist of Aurora Regency, featuring traditional Regency romances and historical fiction.
Penumbra’s inaugural issue is a collection of speculative fiction stories that encompass the arts–the arts we love and revere. Some of these stories deal with the arts we’re familiar with. Some create arts we haven’t thought of and some resurrect arts buried in the depths of the past.  And yet, all of these offerings celebrate the creative process, which makes them a fitting theme to launch Penumbra–an enterprise that will showcase the creative work of speculative fiction authors each month with a new collection of works within the genre.

Straight Woman’s Perspective
When Kelly asked me to write about what it’s like to write M/M romance from a decidedly straight woman’s perspective. I was at first perplexed. Yes, two of my boys (my name for my characters) are gay. And, yes, they have beautiful, also hot, sex. But coming from a straight woman you’d think it would be hard, giggle, to write. You know what? It’s not. How is possible, you might ask. Or you might not care. I’m going to tell you either way.
I treat my characters the way I treat people because to me they’re very real. So, like people, they aren’t just gay/straight/bi/or whatever else you can come up with. There’s so much more to their personalities than that. Alright, so Chris loves and desires Aiden in a way he never could with his ex, Ally. Good. Now I have additional plot points. Anyone who’s read my books would hate for Chris to be with anyone except Aiden. The reason is simple. Their relationship, much like yours and mine, is about much more than sex. It’s about acceptance for who they really are. It’s not who they are. Argue with me, go ahead. I’ll send them to come talk to you.
Also, being a straight woman. I love men. Really, they’re what do it for me. So, two men together? I struggle to understand how a straight woman could not like that. Okay, sure, I’m not entirely familiar with the physicality of it, but that’s the least of what I write about. And such things can be observed. I don’t tend to play any of the usual M/M tricks with them. Chris is not Aiden’s sub, neither of them would tolerate such a thing. The concept of using torture or pain just doesn’t even come to mind.  The love they have and share, both physically and emotionally, is dependent not on ‘normal conventions’ of the romance genre, but who they are as people. Every word I write about them I consider their histories and genetic makeup.
So, is it difficult for me to write M/M romance? No, not at all. Besides, they annoy me far less than Matt’s girlfriend, Carley does. Why does Carley annoy me? Read What Money Can’t Buy and find out!

EXPECTATIONS depicts the struggle between what we desire for
ourselves and our familial obligations. The struggle is personified by Chris and Matt Taylor, identical twins, who are trying to win their overbearing father’s approval and acquire their trust funds. Love, money, and desire collide as Matt and Chris decide what’s really important to them.
