Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Our interview with Kevin Hearne

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Hi everyone and welcome to Audiobook Lovin presented by, Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-KissesWe’re excited to have author Kevin Hearne with us here today.

Q: Kevin, for those of our followers that don’t know you. Can you please tell us a little about yourself.

Kevin: I’m the author of the Iron Druid Chronicles and the forthcoming epic fantasy A PLAGUE OF GIANTS. I used to teach high school English in Arizona but now I live in Colorado and hug lots of trees in the Rocky Mountains.

Q:  In the three years we’ve been hosting Audiobook Lovin, we’ve discussed the process of selecting a narrator with both authors and narrators. We’ve discovered instances where authors were heavily involved in the process or provide ideas of what they wanted and those that some were 100%  involvement in the selection of the narrator. On the opposite side, there have been authors were not part of the process at all. What was your level of involvement with your books being formated to audio books? (NOTE: please include details from providing suggestions of who you’d like to have as a narrator, to the casting options provided to final selection.)

Kevin: I had no input on choosing my narrator, Luke Daniels, but I do help out with the pronunciations of certain words via phone calls prior to recording. But there’s no question that I got fantastically lucky with him. Luke was Audible’s Narrator of the Year in 2012 for TRICKED, and he got nominated for two Audie Awards for my books this year: Best Paranormal for STAKED, and Best Male Narrator for THE PURLOINED POODLE. He consistently gets better reviews for his performance of my books than I do for writing them! He’s amazing.

Q; Can you please tell us do you listen to your own audiobooks? If yes/no why?

Kevin: I find Luke’s delivery amusing. He’s bringing something extra to the words that I often don’t anticipate and I find it entertaining.

Q: If someone one who is new to audiobooks was to ask “why do people listen to audiobooks” how would you answer this?

Kevin: Lots of folks have long commutes these days. A couple hours each day can be lost in traffic. Audiobooks can make that time feel productive and entertaining, even enriching, and my personal theory is that incidents of road rage have decreased since audiobooks have become popular.

Q: Can you tell us what you are currently working on? Any secret projects you can share?

Kevin: I’m currently working on three different series! I’m finishing up the Iron Druid Chronicles, but I’m also working on an epic fantasy trilogy called the Seven Kennings, starting with A PLAGUE OF GIANTS in October, and a humorous fantasy series called Tales of Pell with author Delilah S. Dawson. The first book of that series is called KILL THE FARM BOY, and it’ll be out next summer.

Q: If you could pick one person to narrate your life who would it be and why?

Kevin: Sam Elliott. Oh man, make mine Smoky Bass Cowboy. I feel more rugged and independent already just thinking about it.

Q: How about a quick speed round… ready?

Coffee or Tea?  Coffee. In a Chemex. With beans I grind by hand.

Taco or Burger? Taco.

Summer or Winter? Summer.

Football or Baseball? Baseball.

Mountain or Beach? Mountain.

Milk or Dark Chocolate? Milk.

A little more about Kevin:

Kevin Hearne hugs the hell out of trees and loves doggies and living in Colorado with his family. He is also fond of comic books, whiskey, beer, tacos, fresh air, clean energy, and friendly people. He’s prone to singing in parking lots if you get him drunk enough and has been told that his handwriting is really quite lovely.

Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: An interview with Rebecca Zanetti

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses have the wonderful Rebecca Zanetti on the blog today.

Rebecca Zanetti is the author of over thirty romantic suspense, dark paranormal, and contemporary romances, and her books have appeared multiple times on the New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iBook bestseller lists.  She lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her own Alpha hero, two kids, a couple of dogs, a crazy cat…and a huge extended family.  She believes strongly in luck, karma, and working her butt off…and she thinks one of the best things about being an author, unlike the lawyer she used to be, is that she can let the crazy out.
You can find Rebecca at Website | Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon | Audible |Newsletter
Hi Rebecca we are so excited to have you here with us today!!!

Thanks so much for having me over, ladies!  It’s always nice to see you guys!

Q: Rebecca, for those of our followers that don’t know you. Can you please tell us a little about yourself.

Sure.  I live in the PAC NW, have a husband, a couple of teenagers, and a few animals.  I write dark paranormals, contemporary romances, and romantic suspense books, and I’m just learning how to play mah jongg.

I’ve done both, actually.  There have been times when I haven’t been involved at all, and recently I hired my own narrators to narrate the Scorpius Syndrome books and the Maverick Montana books.  It was a lot of fun. The auditions were exciting to go through, and I think I found awesome narrators.  I chose Michael Pauley for the Scorpius Syndrome books and Stella Bloom for the Maverick Montana series.

Q; Can you please us do you listen to your own audiobooks? If yes/no why?  I tend to get all caught up in the plot and what I would change when I try to listen to my own books.  There’s always something…

Q: If someone one who is new to audiobooks was to ask “why do people listen to audiobooks” how would you answer this?  We live in a multi-tasking type of world.  I know a lot of people who commute to work, and they listen in the car.  I also have a friend who does accounting, and she listens to books all day.

Q: Can you tell us what you are currently working on? Any secret projects you can share?

I just finished editing Twisted Truths, which is the third book in the Blood Brother series.  Now I’m starting to write Storm Gathering, which the fourth Scorpius Syndrome book.  I do have a secret project but can’t announce yet…

Q: If you could pick one person to narrator your life who would it be and why?  Bridget Jones, because she’d capture it perfectly.

Q: How about a quick speed round… ready?  Sure!

Coffee or Tea?  Tea

Taco or Burger?  Burger

Summer or Winter?  Winter

Football or Baseball?  Football

Mountain or Beach?  Mountain

Milk or Dark Chocolate?  Milk chocolate

Vegas or Reno?  Vegas.  Definitely Vegas.  🙂

The Truth About Cats and Wolves

Like many paranormals of Greek descent, Kai Xanthopoulos will not know her true nature until her young powers fully manifest. Unlike her parents—and much to the dismay of her stray cat best friend—Kai has chosen not to spend the rest of her life at the diner in Nocturne Falls. She takes a job at Delaney’s Delectables instead, a decision that puts her directly in the path of a fugitive werewolf that could change her destiny…

Finn Kincaid is cursed. Literally. Accused of murdering his pack-brother, beaten and left for dead in the woods, he runs to Nocturne Falls to seek sanctuary with the one cousin who successfully got out of Tennessee: Ivy Merrow, the sheriff’s wife. On his way there, he’s drawn off course by a girl with no idea how much power she possesses, both within herself, and over him.

Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Guest Blogger Pamela Palmer

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are letting Pamela Palmer take over my blog today!! But first let me introduce you to Ms. Palmer.

Pamela Palmer is the New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of nineteen paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels including her wildly popular Feral Warriors shape-shifter series, her deliciously blood-thirsty Vamp City series, and her spine-tingling Esri series. When Pamela’s initial career goal of captaining starships failed to pan out, she turned to engineering, satisfying her desire for adventure with books and daydreams until finally succumbing to the need to create worlds of her own. Pamela lives and writes in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

You can find Pamela at Website | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | Goodreads | Amazon | Audible | Tantor
The blog is all yours Pamela.

People often ask me about my audio books—how it happened (easy), how I found my narrators (I didn’t), and what it’s like to hear my books read out loud (LOL—keep reading, I’ll get there).

My publisher owns the subsidiary rights to my Feral Warriors and first two Vamp City books (including audio), so the process turned out to be really easy. My publisher said, “We have an offer from Tantor Media. Yes?” And I said, “Yes!” Literally, that was it, although they did send me the covers for approval each time. Tantor did a great job with everything, including lining up superior narrators, which is why I say I didn’t find them. Tantor did.

I actually had some communication with the narrator of my Feral Warriors books, Rob Shapiro, which was very cool. He contacted me before he began, asking for the pronunciation of the unique names in the books. I write mostly paranormal romance, so I make up a lot of names. Part of the lore of the Feral world is that new shape-shifters (and there are only nine in the world when the story begins) take the name of their animals when they first become shifters, but in a unique way. Lyon is the lion shifter and his name is pronounced as you’d expect. Paenther is the black panther, and also pronounced as the animal. But Tighe isn’t so obvious. The correct pronunciation (at least my pronunciation) is Tie. I had a friend in high school with the last name of Tighe (pronounced Tie), so that felt obvious to me…until my BFF critiquer called him Tie-ghee, and another friend pronounced his name yet a third way, and I realized that my pronunciation wasn’t obvious at all. The odds that my narrator would pronounce the names as I did weren’t good, so I was thrilled when he contacted me and asked. I sent him a long list of the various names, and how I pronounce them all, and though I’ve (so far) only listened to book one, he got them all right. (Yay!)

So, back to what it’s like to hear my books read out loud. When my copies first arrived, I admired my beautiful audio book boxes, and admired them, and admired them. But I didn’t get up the nerve to open one, and actually listen, for more than a year. I had a long drive ahead of me…alone…so I finally had the perfect opportunity, though I was pretty sure it was going to be strange, and maybe a bit uncomfortable, listening to someone else (especially a man!) read my sex scenes out loud. Seriously, think about this. Though of course I know that readers read my stories (my not-so-secret fantasies), it’s not out loud, is it? LOL. Maybe it is. But it’s not out loud where I can hear it! (Oh, the weirdness of being a writer.)

Well, I very bravely slid that first CD into the deck of my car, tense and ready, very glad that I was the only one in the vehicle. But something funny happened. It wasn’t weird at all. As I listened, my tension slowly eased, then disappeared altogether. I was at first surprised, then delighted, then amazed as I became swept up in the story…as if hearing it for the first time. And that’s no small feat given that I know that story backwards, forwards, and inside out. For heaven’s sakes, I wrote it, and re-wrote it, then read it again before I started writing each and every one of the books that came after. Yet I found myself completely caught up in it. Part of the reason, I know, is that Rob Shapiro is a first-class narrator. But I think it was more than that. I think it was also the medium. Until I popped that CD into my car’s player, I’d never heard Desire Untamed, or any of my stories, out loud. I’d only ever heard them in my own head. Listening to the audio version created a distance that somehow brought the book to life for me in a whole new way. Though it might not have been quite like watching my characters on the movie screen (which I still dream of doing some day), there was definitely an aspect of that. As the story came to an end, I sat there, kind of stunned, thinking, “Damn. I wrote that.”

So far, Desire Untamed (book one in the Feral Warriors series) is the only one of my audio books that I’ve listened to, but that’s about to change. I’m hitting the road again, this time for good. At least for the next year or two, my plan is to be a full-time traveler, researching and writing on the road. My Feral Warriors will be accompanying me on my grand adventure, and I have every expectation that they’ll sweep me up, once more, in their stories—stories that I know by heart, but that are somehow made brand new for me through the medium of audio books.

By the way, if you’d like to follow my adventures, I’ll be posting regular updates on my blog.

Or you can follow me on Facebook | Twitter Happy listening!

Pamela is giving away to one lucky winner the audio books (CDs) of A Blood Seduction (the first book in my Vamp City series) and Rapture Untamed (book 4 in my Feral Warriors series). Domestic shipping only.

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are excited to let Joanna Wylde take over my blog today!!

Audio Book Lovin - Square Joanna WyldeJoanna Wylde is the secret identity of an international library spy who has travelled the world in search of exactly the right book to read. Despite her endless efforts, she’s still seeking the Ultimate Story — a story so powerful, so incredible that time itself stops while it’s being read, kittens spontaneously spring forth from rainbows, and unicorns bow their heads in praise. Joanna’s hobbies include manatee wrestling (six time north Idaho champion), arguing about the pros/cons of the Oxford comma and refusing to accept that Chicago style should trump AP. You can learn more about Joanna and her work at www.joannawylde.net

Learn more about Joanna and her books here: WebsiteFacebookTwitterGoodreads Tantor Audible

Question: If you listen to audiobooks, how/why did you get into them, what do you love about them and do you have any you’d recommend?

Joanna: I started listening to audio books when I was in middle school, I think. My parents would get them on tape from the library and we’d play them on road trips. Patrick McManus had a series of really outstanding short stories and such about growing up in the mountains of north Idaho, really funny ones. I remember laughing with my brother so hard I snorted snot out my nose, and then him making fun of me for it!

As an adult, I think my favorite audio books are from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Not only are they funny, they’re among the only books my husband and I both enjoy listening to. He likes the humor and the silliness of it, and… well, let’s just be honest here. I like Ranger, LOL. I also really enjoyed the audio of Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. I can’t remember who the narrator was, but they were really good. I think we parked outside our house for a good half hour to hear the end of it.

What I love the most about audio books is how they allow me to experience a story while I’m driving. We have a lot of family in the surrounding area, so I do a lot of road trips. Any time I can throw in a book, that just makes things so much easier. I also like them when I’m cleaning, because it engages my brain without requiring me to stay in one place. Hearing readers say the same thing about my own books has been really incredible, I have to admit. Incredible and surreal!

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are happy to welcome Kristy Bromberg to the blog today. We are letting her take over and talk about her new book The Player.

!!HeadShot ColorNew York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.
A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow.
Since publishing her first book in 2013, K. has sold over one million copies of her books and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over twenty-five times.
In April, she’ll release The Player, the first in a two-book sports romance series (The Catch, book 2, will be released late June), with many more already outlined and ready to be written.
She loves to hear from her readers so make sure you check her out on social media or sign up for her newsletter to stay up to date on all her latest releases and sales: http://bit.ly/254MWtI

30826144Baseball has never been sexier in an all-new novel by New York Times Bestselling Author, K. Bromberg.

Easton Wylder is baseball royalty. The game is his life. His passion. His everything.

So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in the renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him.

Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on.

And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Not when it’s her job to side in the club’s best interest if he’s ready to play.

But when sparks fly and fine lines are crossed, can they withstand the heat or is one of them bound to get burned?

Six Silly Specifics about The Player

  1. The song I associate most with The Player is Million Reasons by Lady Gaga
  1. I used to play competitive softball. I was a catcher like Easton. And my chest protector may have also said “Thou Shall Not Steal” like his does.
  1. The Player was the fastest I’ve ever written a book – 26 days.
  1. I chose the fictitious team name Aces as a little nod to the first alpha I’d ever written, Colton Donavan of the Driven series. The heroine of the series, Rylee, likes to call him Ace.
  1. In my original outline, Easton was a jerk. For some reason I thought he was going to be an over the top alpha but when I started writing the book I realized that he was actually sweet and it completely changed scenes in the story.
  1. I wrote the dog rescue scene because I’d just rescued a dog myself and because Lauren Blakely loves dogs and she’s my friend.

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Good morning all!!  Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses have author Tessa Bailey on the blog today! She answers our question of her involvement with the casting of her audio books. Check out her response below, take a listen to the audio clips and remember to enter the giveaway!

There are only two books of mine where I got to be involved in the audiobook creation process. UNFIXABLE and BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR. The narrator for UNFIXABLE was a woman (since the book is all from the heroine’s point of view) and she contacted me, wanting to learn more about my character. I told her the heroine was sarcastic, humorous and insecure. She totally nailed it. The book takes place in Ireland, so she had to put on an Irish accent and I think she did a pretty incredible job of being authentic, too.

BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR really has a great audiobook, as well. The narrator is a classically trained actor and he did a brilliant job of capturing my heroine’s southern accent and bringing a different flavor to the hero. I was super satisfied with the results and hope I get to be involved again soon in this process!

highres-MJB_5140.jpgTessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of nine years and five-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
