Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Guest Blogger Author Nina Bocci

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are honored to have author Nina Booci on the blog today.

NinaAuthorB&WNina Bocci is a novelist, publicist, eternal optimist, unabashed lipgloss enthusiast, constant apologist, and a hopeless romanticist. She has too many college degrees that she’s not using, and a Lego addiction that she blames on her son.

You can find Nina at Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Goodreads | Amazon |Audible

I now will turn over the blot to Nina.

I’ve found that when talking about audio books, people either love them or hate them. There aren’t many ‘meh’ answers but they’re the people that you can sway with a great narrator.

I’m in the LOVE category. I’ve listened to audio for so long, I remember when you could buy a big pack of CD’s from Waldenbooks. In fact, my first set of Harry Potter was on discs!

Speaking of Harry, Jim Dale is my favorite narrator. If you haven’t listened to him, please take a moment to get a sample from iTunes or Audible and enjoy the hell out of it. Most of the books I listen to on audio are MG, YA or non-fiction.

For me, the narrator makes all the difference. It can make or break the book in my opinion. I love that most publishers and self-pubbed authors get to choose their own narrator. It helps to have someone that is, in your mind, perfect for your book.

A suggestion that many people share is to get samples before buying any of them, it helps tremendously when deciding to buy. I’ve found some of my favorite books that way.

My nearly ten-year-old son is also an audio book fanatic. We listen to them everywhere lately. To and from school, piano, the mall, wherever. Even when we’re cooking dinner, we’re listening to something. His favorites are Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Secret Keepers, the Mr. Lemoncello series, The Mysterious Benedict Society and basically anything read by Jesse Bernstein who is his absolute favorite narrator.

The thing with audio books, is that you can listen anywhere. On a walk with your dog, on a road trip, at the store perusing the shelves or my favorite, cooking dinner. It helps pass the time and you get to immerse yourself in another world. Especially when this one seems so bleak, it’s a great escape.

So pull up a pair of ear buds or Beats and fall in love with a great story.

Audiobook Loving’ Presents: Guest Blogger Antony Ferguson

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are honored to have narrator Antony Ferguson on the blog today. Antony is telling us about his top 5 reason being a narrator is so awesome.

Antony FergusonAntony Ferguson is a native of London, England. Upon leaving Drama school, he worked extensively in English repertory theatres; most notably playing the lead in Edward II, Don Juan, and Lord Byron in a production of Camino Real for Alan Ayckbourn’s theatre company. He has twice appeared on London’s West End, winning the award for best actor as Jimmy Porter in (an award winning production of) Look Back In Anger, and playing the lead in The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew, by Robert Bolt. Upon moving to New York City, he worked regularly Off Broadway, in regional theatre and on national tours. He has a wide experience in performing Shakespeare, Chekov, Shaw etc., and has won several awards for his work.

Antony got involved in audiobook narration several years ago, as an extension to his regular voice over work, and has recorded over 160 books. He loves all genre of audiobooks, but has a special love of recording Romantic Fiction. The characters, the situations, and the passion are just so much fun to perform! He is an Audiofile Earphone Award winner.

You can find Antony at Website | Goodreads | Audible | Tantor

5 things I love about being a narrator

1          I get to act every day.

Most actors are out of work more than they are in work, but I get to play different characters and tell different stories every day.

2          I love that I work from home.

It is wonderful to be able to work from my home studio and set my own schedule.

3          I learn a great deal

I learn several new things with every book I record. Naturally, more with non fiction, but it is great to see things through someone else’s eyes.

4          I love to entertain people.

It feels wonderful, knowing that by using my imagination when creating characters, that people are at home enjoying and being entertained by my work.

5          Variety

I love the fact that no two books are the same and I get to record constantly changing projects.

Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Our Interview with Luke Daniels

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses were so honored to sit down with Luke Daniels and chat with him about audiobooks!  Luke is one of my most favorite narrators!

image1-3Luke Daniels was born into a family of actors. Both his father and mother have been performing and teaching for almost five decades. It is because of their influence that, from a very young age, Luke and his two brothers often found themselves in rehearsal halls at repertory theatres all over the country; watching innumerable productions of Much Ado, Julius Caesar, and Midsummer’s.
Luke’s first theatrical role came at the age of 5 as Fleance in a production of Macbeth. He immediately loved the creativity and camaraderie of the theatre. (It also didn’t hurt that he was allowed to miss school for certain performances.)
Over the years Luke has performed at many repertory theatres across the country, including the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Connecticut Rep., and Hope Summer Rep. in Holland, Michigan. Luke has his Bachelor’s from Western Michigan University and his MFA in performance from the University of Connecticut.
Luke has worked professionally as a director, teacher, audiobook narrator, voice-over, commercial, and industrial actor.
But he maintains that the greatest role he has ever played is that of a Father to his kids.

You can find Luke at Website | Facebook | Twitter | Audible | Tantor

Audiobook Lovin’ Presnets: Viviana’s interview with Molly Harper & Amanda Ronconi

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Books-n-Kisses is please to share with you Viviana, Enchantress of Books interview with author Molly Harper and narrator Amanda Ronconi.

When Molly Harper was eight years old, she set up a “writing office” in her parents’ living room, complete with an old manual typewriter and a toy phone. And she (very slowly) pecked out the story of her third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city. She had a dark sense of humor even then.

When Molly was considerably older, she headed for Western Kentucky University, where she majored in print journalism. After graduation, she landed a job with The Paducah Sun and married her high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. After six years at the newspaper, Molly took a more family-friendly secretarial position at a local church office.

Her husband worked nights and Molly was alone with their small child in the “The Apartment of Lost Souls.” A big fan of vampire movies and TV shows, she decided to write a vampire romance novel. Molly created Jane Jameson, a bit of an accidental loser. Jane is single, almost 30, and a librarian working in Half-Moon Hollow, Ky. She has become a permanent fixture on her Mama’s prayer list. And despite the fact that she’s pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. Jane drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer and shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire. The three-book Jane Jameson series–which includes Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs,Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men and Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever—was released in 2009.  A fourth and final installment, Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors, was released in 2012.

Molly continues stories in the Jane Jameson universe through her Half-Moon Hollow series,Driving Mr. Dead, The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires, Undead Sublet, and A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses.  Undead Sublet is a short story in The Undead in My Bed anthology.  A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses will be released in June 2013.  A special free audio holiday novella, I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas, was released in December 2013.

Molly will update her popular Naked Werewolf romance series in 2013. How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf, was released in February 2011, quickly followed by The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf. A third installment, How to Run With a Naked Werewolf, will be released in December 2013.  Her first-ever “haunted house story,” Better Homes and Hauntings, will be released in June 2014.

Molly will launch her first-ever contemporary romance series with My Bluegrass Baby in December 2012.  Rhythm and Bluegrass was released in October 2013.

Molly’s books are published by Pocket Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. They are available in print, as e-books and audio books at major book stores and on Amazon. Molly is a native of Kentucky. She lives in Paducah with her husband and children.

You can find Molly at Website | Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon | Audible | Tantor

Amanda Ronconi is an actress and narrator who divides her time between New York City and Upstate New York.  She has a BFA from NYU, where she studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory.  She has performed in theaters around New York City and regionally at The Alley, Capital Rep and many productions at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.
Her Off-Broadway solo comedy, Shirley at the Tropicana, received critical acclaim and was subsequently featured in The New York Times.  Film and TV credits include Daydream Believer (Slamdance 2001’s Best Dramatic Feature winner), The UnderstudyDeadly Sins (ID Discovery), IFC’s Get Hit and Chasing Paradise. National network and regional commercials include Chase BankSony and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.  Her voiceover work encompasses nearly 100 audiobooks available on Audible.com.  She is a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors’ Equity.

Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Guest blogger Sasha Summers

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses are letting Sasha Summers take over my blog today to tell us her Top 5 reasons for listening to audio books.

Sasha Summers grew up surrounded by books. Her passions have always been storytelling, romance, and travel. Whether it’s an easy-on-the-eyes cowboy or a hero of truly mythic proportions, Sasha falls a little in love with each and every one of her heroes. She frequently gets lost with her characters in the worlds she creates; forgetting everyday tasks like laundry and dishes. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and helpful.
You can find Sasha at  Website |  Facebook | Twitter |Google+
Sasha, the blog is all yours.

Hi Ladies!

I’m so happy to be here and spread some audio-book love. Living in Texas, I spend a lot of time in my car. It’s big, ya’ll. And our highways are plain crazy. What do I do when I’m stuck in traffic? Trying to block out my teenagers latest backseat battle? Or when I need to check out.

Read a book. Rather, listen to one. I, for one, am a fan of audiobooks. And I thought I’d share my top five reasons why!

  1. Eye strain. Raise your hand if you spend eight hours staring at a computer screen. By the end of the day my peepers need a serious break.
  1. Names you can’t pronounce. Seriously – this totally cuts the guesswork out. I love fantasy and sci-fi and the names and languages can trip me up when I’m staring at the page. Not so when someone is telling me.
  1. No one has any idea what you’re listening to. I write and read romance but I always plug in to earbuds. I don’t presume everyone wants to hear what I’m listening to. Unless you blush or giggle or react, no one knows just how naughty, terrifying, or obscenity-laden the story you’re listening to is.
  1. Room on your bookshelves for knick-knacks or family photos vs. stacks and stacks of books. Your family will appreciate and so will the trees.
  1. Totally portable – trains, planes, and automobiles people! Win-win all around!

Thanks for letting me share my Top 5 Reasons Audiobooks ROCK!!!

Now I’m curious… What is the one audiobook every reader should get?

DaryndaJones_CREDITDonitaMasseyPrivettNY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Darynda Jones has won numerous awards for her work, including a prestigious Golden Heart®, a Rebecca, two Hold Medallions, a RITA ®, and a Daphne du Maurier, and she has received stellar reviews from dozens of publications including starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, and the Library Journal. TOP 5 REASONS I LOVE AUDIOBOOKS

by Darynda Jones

  1. I can get caught up on my reading while doing other things, like driving or cleaning house or staring at the ceiling. Mostly staring at the ceiling.
  1. I’m a slow reader (I swear I can write a book faster than I can read one), so listening to audiobooks helps me stay caught up and ups the number of books I read per year.

Repeat after me: LISTENING TO AUDIOBOOKS IS NOT CHEATING. You are still “reading” books. You are still absorbing a story and reaping all the benefits of that worthy endeavor.

  1. I get to learn how to pronounce words I’ve never said aloud. Ahhh, probably the ONLY pitfall of being a voracious reader. We know what words mean, but we don’t know how to say them out loud. Words like antipodes and anemone and diphtheria. (Did you pronounce that dip-theria? Yeah, me, too.)
  1. Saving trees, baby. 🙂
  1. And my number one reason for listening to audiobooks? I’ll give you a scenario. I travel. A lot. When I’m in my hometown of Portales, New Mexico, I go to writerly meetings in Albuquerque at least once a month. From my house to our meeting place is a span of almost four hours. So, it’s a pretty good drive, especially when I go up and back in one day.

When I listen to an audiobook, however, the trip seems more like 20 minutes. That is not an exaggeration at all. My mind is immersed in the fantastic world the writer has created.

A question I sometimes get is, isn’t it dangerous for your mind to be so preoccupied?

In a word, nope.

You are still very aware of what’s going on around you. You still stop suddenly if you have to. Avoid a herd of cows when necessary. (Yep, that happened.) Pay attention to the erratic driver veering in and out of traffic just to get two cars ahead. Oh, wait, that was me.

Some people say listening to audiobooks makes them sleepy. IMHO, if they make you sleepy, you were sleepy to begin with. Two words: red and bull.

Audiobook Lovin’ Presents: Our Interview with Roger Wayne

2017 Audio Book Lovin Banner UPDATED

Viviana, Enchantress of Books and I, Books-n-Kisses had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Roger Wayne last week! We thought it would be fun to share our interview with you! But first let’s get to know Roger a little better.

Roger WayneRoger Wayne was born in Wadena, Minnesota. He was raised in rural farm country, and attended K-12 in the small towns of Northwestern MN. He moved on to Community College for a year, and then decided to join the Air Force. Out of 170 that were available, he couldn’t find a job in the military that he wanted. When his recruiter mentioned one last position he could apply for, he was intrigued. This was to be his first ever audition. Roger was escorted into a radio studio, read the given script, and got the part. . . he was on his way to becoming a broadcaster in the United States Military. In the Summer of 2004 he joined the Air Force as a Radio & Television Broadcast Journalist.

After Basic Training in San Antonio, TX, he moved to Fort Meade, MD, to train for military broadcasting, and was then stationed in Osan Air Base, South Korea. He won several awards including Best Radio Commercial military wide in 2006, and Best Feature Story for the Air Force, and his story on the local football team won an award as well. He became close friends with his work partner Luka, who was originally from Poland, but had grown up in Detroit. Through him he gained a respect and appreciation for Arabic, Lebanese, and Jewish culture, and music. To this day his favorite female artist is the Lebanese singer, Najwa Karam.

After completing his tour in Korea, his next assignment was to be in Italy, which is where his father had been stationed when he worked in Intelligence many years prior. At that time, several contractors were taking over positions in broadcasting so Roger made the choice to come back home. With a background in Journalism and a more worldly perspective under his belt he headed back to Minnesota to finish school. During his two years in Community College, he participated in several plays, mostly Shakespeare, and worked with drama teacher Ert Hermerding. Previously Ert had worked with Actor Steve Zahn, who is also from Minnesota.

To satisfy a desire to speak his opinion on the mistreating of civilians in the Middle East and the stereotypes many people had formed over Muslims because of the terrorist attacks, Roger aced his speech class, when he did his final speech on Muslims in the Middle East and America, citing differences between extremists, and normal . During this time he also wrote papers in regards to the mistreatment of the Native Americans, and although patriotism is part of what led him into the military, he felt a need to talk about much of the destruction the United States had caused to such an important culture. He finished his second year in Community College, and then went on to Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN.

He was awarded an Acting Scholarship to attend Augsburg. He completed two shows there, including Checkhov’s “Three Sisters,” where he received praise for his portrayal of ‘Vershinin’. Although he had his scholarship, ultimately the theater program did not hold much interest, and instead attained his degree in Communications & Journalism, and graduated with honors. He then began to work as a Journalist in the Civilian market. Telling stories was a passion, but it wasn’t enough, he wanted to continue playing characters, exploring new worlds, and ultimately take on the life of a professional actor. He made a quick transition, became involved in the local acting scene, and worked with local Talent Agents for Commercials and Print Modeling work. He completed many Independent student, and professional film projects, several commercials, and plays, including work at the Guthrie Theater. He continued to get good marks, while playing roles like ‘Mortimer’ in “Arsenic & Old Lace,” ‘Uncle Louie’ in “Lost in Yonkers,” and others. He also worked with a Voiceover Agent, and started doing Radio and TV Commercial voice work.

After spending two years working in Minneapolis, he knew it was time to make a change, and move to a bigger market. He made the decision to move to New York City. The move has offered him a chance to hone his skills on a much higher level in all aspects of the business.

Roger now lives in New York City, actively working in Voice Industry, Film, Television, and Theater. Roger consistently performs audiobooks for various production companies including Tantor Media, Audible.com, and does voice commercials for Radio, TV, as well as characters for Animation, and Video Games. Voice work has become the backbone of his career.
