My ARC Review of Eternal Captive by Laura Wright

Eternal Captive
By Laura Wright
Since feeding her his blood, Lucian Roman has struggled with his obsession with Bronwyn Kettler-fighting an uncontrollable desire to kill her, if he has to, and the vampire she has sworn to wed. But when a dangerous enemy threatens Bronwyn, only Lucian can save her life. Even if it means sacrificing his own…
My Thoughts:
Eternal Captive takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride.  There are so many ups and downs, highs and lows you start to wonder if it will ever end.  Will there ever be light at the end of the tunnel.
I will admit I was very, very nervous about this book.  I was not sure how Laura was going to pull it all off, but she did!!  And she did a beautiful job of it.  While Eternal Captive was not my favorite book so far in the Mark of the Vampire series *cough Nicky’s*.  But I can safely say that Lucian fans will be extremely happy with this book.
Eternal Captive introduces us to a new group of characters and opens so many doors in the Mark of the Vampire world.   I am very excited to see where Laura takes us with this new group of Roman’s.
And since I try hard to keep my review spoiler free but I am dying to give you something.  Let me just say that the ending of Eternal Captive surprised the hell out of me…  Never ever saw that coming.
So can’t wait for Gray’s book Eternal Beast in August.

But because the moment his fingers brush against her skin, Alyssa feels a razor-sharp pang of need…A man with a life sentence has nothing to lose. At least Teague doesn’t, until his escape plan develops a fatal flaw: Alyssa. On the run from both the law and deadly undercover operatives, he can only give her lies, but every heated kiss tells him the fire between them could be just as devastating as the flames that changed him forever.
My thoughts:
Fever is Joan Swan’s break out novel.  I had the great pleasure of getting to read an ARC of Fever.  LOVED!!! LOVED!!!! LOVED this book!!!
Joan has created a world for us that starts with a single event.  A Fire.  A warehouse fire.   A warehouse fire that will forever change the life’s of the men and women caught in that fire.
In Fever we meet Teague Creek an man on the run.  On a mission to get to the one person he loves the most and nothing or no one will stand in his way.  Teague is a tough talking, tough looking man who deep down is very loving and tormented by the past.  I loved Teague.  Loved to see how he grows over the course of this book.  How he changes, how he tries to protect the ones he loves, even the one that have hurt him in the past.  But Teague’s biggest lesson learned is to Trust.  To trust those around him.
Alyssa kicks butt.  For a girl who was in the wrong place at the wrong time she makes a great heroine.  I love to watch her stand up to these tough talking guys and bring them to their knees.
I loved this book and can’t wait for the second installment in this series.  If you want to sneak peak at Fever, head over to Joan’s website and you can read chapter 1.

Review of Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian

Darker After Midnight
by Lara Adrian
Hardcover: 384 pages
Publisher: Delacorte Press (January 24, 2012)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 034553087X
ISBN-13: 978-0345530875
In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order–a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike–to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.
At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach–until he finds himself drawn to a beautiful young woman who may be something much more than she seems . . .
My Thoughts:
I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed this book.  Well I could, but I am going to keep this review spoiler free.  So here are my spoiler free thoughts.
There is so much happening in this book.  The Order and the Midnight Breed world as we know it will never be the same again.  In Darker After Midnight we do get to see all of our favorite Breed Warriors again.  We get to see how things are going for them and there are some huge surprises too!!
I will say that Chase does have an uphill battle in this book.  He and only he can change this path of destruction he is on.  If you have read through to Hunter’s book you will know what I am talking about.
We met Tavia very briefly at the end of Deeper Than Midnight (Hunter’s book, book 9 in the series) .  From the moment Chase sees Tavia there is something very different about her. Tavia may just be the one person that can help Chase realize just how important he really is to everyone.  But that is if Chase can stop long enough to see what is in front of him.
As I said before the world of the Midnight Breeds will never be the same after this book.  I am so excited to see what Lara has in store for us next.  There where so many twists and turns in Darker After Midnight and I personally loved every one of them.  Chases’ book is my new favorite of the series.
Oh and the next book in the series is going to knock your socks off… and of course you know I will not tell you who’s book is next.  But I am SO EXCITED for it!!!!!!
I have to say HUGE Thank you to Lara for the opportunity to read Darker After Midnight early and review for her.

My review If You Hear Her (ARC) by Shiloh Walker

(The Ash Trilogy #1)
by Shiloh Walker
First in a new romantic suspense trilogy

A CRY IN THE WOODS
The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.
Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close?
When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her.
My Thoughts:
If You HearHer takes you on a gut wrenching journey into the small town of Ash, Kentucky, where not everything is as it seems. Some time you have to listen to learn the truth.

From the moment Ezra sees Lena he is smitten with her.  Lena has always known that people stare at her, it is because she different.  Lena is blind, but she likes it when Ezra stares at her.  When Ezra asks her to dinner she can’t say No.  After a wonderful dinner and a smoldering hot kiss, Ezra leaves her but never call as promised.  After waiting and waiting Lena is determined to write him off, that is until she hears a scream for help in the middle of the night.

With no evidence of someone in need of help in Lena’s woods, the police department is at a standstill, but Lena knows what she heard, and knows someone is in trouble. When strange things start happening around town everyone is on edge.  Time is running out and if they don’t find who was in the woods……….

I really enjoyed this first installment of the Ash Trilogy and can’t wait to see what happen next. I am hoping that the many questions I have will all be answered over the next two books.  If you are looking for a romantic suspense that will leave you wanting more and worried for the residents of Ash, Kentucky.  I would highly suggest checking out Shiloh’s new series.

Huge, Thank you to Shiloh Walker for allowing me to read her story early and review it for her.

If You HearHer is the first book in Shiloh Walkers new Ash Trilogy release date 10/25/2011

(ARC) How to Seduce a Scoundrel by Vicky Dreiling

Release Date June 28
SCOUNDRELS, RAKES, AND ROGUES BEWARE . . .

Lady Julianne Gatewick is in a pickle. It started when her brother’s best friend—for whom she’s long nursed a secret tendre—agreed to act as her guardian for the Season, only to seduce her with a risqué waltz.
But when the music stopped and the expectant ton waited for the Earl of Hawkfield to claim her as his own, he made his disinterest clear. Rather than succumb to humiliation, Julianne does what any recently discarded, wickedly witty young miss would do. She secretly pens a lady’s guide to enticing unrepentant rakes . . . and it becomes the hottest scandal in London.
Every honorable rake knows that friends’ sisters are forbidden. But suddenly Julianne has a spark of mischief in her eyes that Hawk can’t resist. Try as he might to push her away, he spends his days listening for her laughter and his nights dreaming of her kisses. He’s always avoided innocents and their marriage-minded mothers, but has the man least likely to wed finally met his match?

My thoughts:
As the little sister of his best friend, Hawk knows Julianne is off limits.  But she stirs something in him.   Something he is not familiar with.  At first he tries to do the right thing, but as time goes by he can’t deny his growing attraction to this feisty young woman.  But Hawk has a very sordid past and a secret.
Julianne has loved Hawk all her life, but in the last four years she has fallen head over heels in love with him.  Her goal this season is to make him fall in love with her.  But sometimes the object of your affection doesn’t always return that affection.  Julianne grows over the course of the season from a young girl with fantasies of love to a woman who understands that love is not always as easy as saying those three little words.
I really, really enjoyed How to Seduce a Scoundrel.  This is book 2 in Vicky’s fan named the “How to Series”.  Book 1 is How to Marry a Duke. I have to admit I cried in this book multiple times.  So if you are a crier like me, you have be warned… ☺ There is so much going on between Hawk & Julianne.  The sexual tension alone makes you want to scream “Hawk get over yourself and go get the woman you love.”
How to Seduce a Scoundrel is a great emotional roller coaster of two people who when given a chance will love with everything they have.

(ARC) Follow the Night by Michele Hauf

Vicomte Gabriel Renan was just trying to dispose of his ill-gotten fortune when the mysterious stranger attacked him. Now he’s been told he may become vampire if he cannot make it to the full moon without drinking blood. Easy enough. Or will the madness that threatens lure Gabriel to follow the night?
Too many secrets Roxane Desrues holds to her breast. She only wishes to rescue her brother, but is distracted by the handsome vicomte, and the reality that he may become her greatest enemy should he transform to vampire.
Together they will learn what they can to overcome—but ultimately, they have only one another to trust in the battle between good and evil.

My thoughts:
Gabriel (aka Leo) is a man hiding from his past.  A past filled with pain and disappointment.  But never again, Gabriel had built up walls around him and doesn’t let anyone close to him, EVER.  Until the night he is attacked.  Then everything changes.
Roxane only is worried about one thing, saving her brother.  She must hunt the monster that changed her brother and kill him.  Even if that means she has to use someone else as bait.
After being attacked Gabriel wakes to find the very delicious Roxane watching over him.  She is offering to help him fight off the effects of the attack, but is she everything she says she is or is Roxane hiding her own secrets as to why she is here.
I have to say that I have not read many historical paranormal romances, but really did enjoy this story.  It was really fun to watch these two characters struggle with lust, love and loyalty.  But in the end trust is the most important thing of all.
I have to say a huge THANK YOU to Michele Hauf for allowing me to read this story early.
Follow the Night will be released in July 2011. I don’t have a pre-order link yet. So please go to Michele Website for more information.

Feast: Harvest of Dreams by Merrie Destefano

Release date June 28th

Madeline MacFadden (“Mad Mac” to fans of her bestselling magical stories) spent blissful childhood summers in Ticonderoga Falls. And this is where she wants to be now that her adult life is falling apart. The dense surrounding forest holds many memories, some joyous, some tantalizingly only half-remembered. And she’s always believed there was something living in these wooded hills.

But Maddie doesn’t remember the dark parts — and knows nothing of the mountain legend that holds the area’s terrified residents captive. She has no recollection of Ash, the strange and magnificent creature who once saved her life as a child, even though it is the destiny of his kind to prey upon humanity. And soon it will be the Harvest. . . the time to feast.

Once again Maddie’s dreams –and her soul — are in grave danger. But magic runs deep during Harvest. Even a spinner of enchanted tales has wondrous powers of her own.

My Thoughts:
Dreams, it is what we do when we sleep… But have you ever wondered what happens when you can’t remember your dreams? Well the answer is here in Feast: Harvest of Dreams.
Oh Merrie has done it again.  She has my mind spinning.  Feast was a very interesting story.  Interesting in a very Wonderland meets Paranormal kind of way.  Merrie does a great job of setting up this world for us, a world of good and evil. I got really sucked into Ash’s world and his struggles to deal with who and what he has done and will continue to do.
There is a romance in this book, in fact there are two.  One is first love and one happens to be an old love revisited even if one can’t remember it.  For those who want to know. No, there is no sex in this book. Although I only realized that after I finished the book and sat down to write this review.  So therefore I didn’t feel that I was missing anything.  I did find the struggles that character go through wonderful.
I did speak with Merrie and there is a good chance that this story line will continue.  And I sure hope so there are so many questions I want answered, characters I want to revisit, and I want to know more about Ash.
If you are looking for a book a little out of the normal paranormal or fantasy genres I would highly recommend you join the Feast…….

Hunter’s Fall ARC tour by Shiloh Walker

Release Date June 7, 2011

UNKNOWN PAST

Something strange is happening to Nessa. Ever since she survived a near-death experience she’s not exactly who she used to be—and enjoying every minute of it. Then she’s called upon to go to battle against darkness. If only she could remember why.
UNEXPECTED LOVER
Dominic is having his own problems with memory, sanity, and hallucinations. Sent to Excelsior, the covert Hunter training facility, he senses a female presence that seems so hauntingly familiar. That’s because he and Nessa share a forgotten past.
UNSEEN EVIL
As Nessa and Dominic regain their memories, their strange mission against evil becomes clearer. And all the more dangerous because whether they should trust each other is the still the greatest unknown of
all.

My Summary:
Nessa lives in pain. She has suffered for so long, has lost so much and is in so much pain.  The only place that Nessa can find a small slice of happiness is in her dreams. Nessa is one of the strongest witches alive and at her breaking point she wills herself to forget. Forget everything and everyone.
Dominic has lost his mind.  At least that is what he things.  He can’t seem to get this dream woman out of his head.  He can’t do much of anything other than obsess about her.  But while he is on a mission he thinks he hears her speak and in a moment of weakness almost gets himself killed, now he is shipped off to get his head looked at.
As soon as Dominic arrives at Excelsior (a training school for Hunters) he smells her and everything changes in a heartbeat.  Dominic now know she is real, not just a dream and he needs, no MUST find her at any cost.  No one and nothing will stand in his way. Only one problem, she is missing.
My Thoughts:
I really, really enjoyed Hunter’s Fall.  This story broke my heart. There is so much pain, so much loss and so much love.  It seemed like there would never be a happy ending in this story.  There is so much that Nessa has to overcome and even when she realized the mistakes she has made she fights herself and her future happiness.  Dominic is a vampire on a mission.  He is devoted to finding his dream woman and nothing stand in his way.  Even after Dominic gets his ass handed to him when he fights one of the Master Vampires, but that doesn’t stop him for long.  When he finally gets to her, he realizes that she might not feel the same way.  Like I said, so much pain and loss is in this story.  But can love win out over everything? Or does there come a time when you have lost too much that you can never find your way back?
This book was a little hard on my heart, but so worth it.  This is the first book of the HUNTERS Series by Shiloh Walker that I have read.  So now I have to go back and read the 12 stories before this one (Yep, 12!!!).  I have loved all of Shiloh’s stories that I have read to date and she didn’t let me down with Hunter’s fall.
I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Shiloh Walker and Nicole (her assistant) for letting me be part of this blog tour. I am a huge fan of Shiloh’s work and love to help promote her any way I can.  Another HUGE THANK YOU to Shiloh for the extra copy of Hunter’s Fall… Nothing like a little dog drool to ruin a book. The Legend of Michael by Lisa Renee Jones

HE IS A LETHAL WEAPON…

One of an army of human soldiers injected with alien DNA, Michael is a legend within this new race, split between good and evil. Untamable, he has walked on the dark side and returned to the light. Feared and misunderstood, he leaves everything behind, including the one woman destined to be his mate.

HE IS HER ENEMY…AND HER DESTINY…

Fate leads Michael back to Cassandra Powell, for she holds the key to defending his comrades. With their loyalties divided between duty and the people they love, only together can Cassandra and Michael overcome insurmountable odds to save humanity from the wrath of a madman.
But no ordinary woman can control a creature such as Michael, and only one thing is clear—the world will never be the same…

The Hero: Michael

He is sin and satisfaction, lust and damnation, a lethal weapon created from the greed of man. A human soldier injected with alien DNA, he is one of many, yet none are like him, a legend within this new race, split between good and evil. Untamable, he has walked on the dark side, returned to the light, but it matters not, for he is feared, misunderstood—lethal in all ways possible. Women desire him, lust for the mysterious warrior, hungry for the raw passion that touches his every breath. Men envy his stature, his power; they lust to control him. But there is no controlling a creature such as he, no taming the primal fires within him. He is the past, he is the future.

He is Michael.

My Thoughts:

Lisa creates a world of good and evil, but not everything that looks evil is or maybe evil is really just evil?  This story tugged at my heart strings, mad me very upset for the stubborn nature of our hero and cheered for the bravery of our heroine.
Michael and Cassandra are so perfect for each other but there are forces that they can’t control that don’t want them to be together.   There are plenty of secrets to go around all of which would and could destroy everything.  But when the secrets are finally revealed will Michael and Cassandra still be standing or with the forces against them win?
I SO enjoyed this book.  Special THANK YOU to Lisa for giving me a chance to read and help her promote her new series.  I am already looking forward to the next two books in this series.
Zodius #2: STERLING (November 2011) & Zodius #3: DAMION (May 2012)

You can always come home. Second chances come a little harder.

Chase and Zoe were the high school golden couple. Football captain, cheerleader, prom royalty. After graduation, though, Chase couldn’t resist the urge to experience life outside their small town. He didn’t exactly expect Zoe to wait twelve years for him, but now that he’s back, he finds some small part of him hoping she did.

It’s no big surprise she’s married. The kick in the face is she married his best friend.

Zoe was devastated when Chase left, but she’s filed those bittersweet memories under “Moved On”. She loves her life, and loves her husband. She has all she needs. And Chase keeps an honorable distance.

One cold, wet, miserable day, tragedy turns Zoe’s world upside down. Chase never expected her to simply fall into his arms, but a man can dream. Except his dream doesn’t include the fact that this time, she’s the one hitting the road…and he’s the one left behind.

My Summary:
When Chase returned home after 15 years he only has one thing on his mind.  Zoe.  The girl he left behind, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life.  He should have never left town or maybe taken her with him, but he didn’t, he just turned and ran away from everything that was ever important to him.
Zoe has always been a small town girl; she was a cheerleader in high school and fell in love with the football captain.  Everything was perfect until Chase just up and left and Zoe’s world crashed all around her.  15 years later Zoe is happily married and not longer thinks about Chase, well almost never.
But now that Chase is back in town.  Zoe loves her husband and would never leave him, not even for the true love of her life.   But never say never sometimes fate has its own plan.
