BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In this sizzling continuation of the Mastered series by New York Times bestselling author Lorelei James, a man will find the domination he’s always craved…

Shiori Hirano and Knox Lofgren are left to run the martial arts program at Black Arts while Ronin Black travels. On the surface, the two highest ranked belts appear to cooperate—but in private, they butt heads constantly, despite the undeniable attraction between them. Soon their power exchanges start to make for a sweltering dynamic in the bedroom…

At first Knox is shocked to be living out his submissive desires, but Shiori sets out to prove that embracing his true sexual nature doesn’t make him a weak man. But even while their sexual relationship grants him a power and fulfillment he finds surprising, there’s no training regimen for the fight that comes with loving a strong woman

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Wowza can Ms. James write a story. Unraveled kinda throws you for a loop by having the Dom/sub role reversed. But let me tell you it was a great story. I am not sure it would have worked with any of the other character so far in this series. But Knox and Shiori make it work and make it real. I will admit at times the story was a tad slow and I found myself wanting to skip forward. But then I was worried I would miss something. Needless to say I was very happy with Knox and Shiori’s journey of discovery.
I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Now the OOPS girls have two fledgling vamps on their hands, and their powers–and the attraction building between them–are unlike anything they’ve seen before.

REVIEW:
Another fun Accidentals story. I really liked the twists and turns in this story. I loved all the names that Nina calls Phoebe. I loved that Phoebe is a more well put together Nina. It was great to finally see someone stand up to Nina. I think Nina finally found her match in her little sister. I loved Sam!!! Sam the bug guy is great. No matter what secrets he is hiding or way Sam is a great guy.
As always Ms. Cassidy writes a fun, snarky, I think my ears will never be the same after listening to Nina and everything will be okay story. Loved it!!
Ms. Mitchell does a great job as always narrating the Accidental series. I love that it is so easy to know who is talking. Loved it.
Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Kelly reviews Beyond the Darkness by Katie Reus

beyond the darknessTITLE: Beyond the Darkness
SERIES #: Darkness #3
CHARACTERS: Bran Devlin & Keelin Petronilla
AUTHOR: Katie Reus
PUBLICATION DATE: March 3, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Now that she has her freedom, she’s not giving it up.

Dragon shifter Keelin Petronilla spent centuries in forced hibernation dreaming of one thing: freedom. Now she’s living life on her terms—she’s ditched her clan for an unruly wolf pack, she tends bar for a half-demon, and she’s loving it…until a powerful supernatural being targets her. She intends to handle the mysterious attacks on her own…without the help of dragon Alpha Bran Devlin. Sure, he’s sexy in that hot, scowling possessive way, but Keelin wants to live her own life in her own way.

Now that he’s found his mate, he’s not letting her go.

Former black ops agent Bran Devlin is a born dragon Alpha and leader of a fierce clan. Getting mated was never part of his plan—until a feisty dragon princess gets under his skin in a big way. The hell of it is, she doesn’t want a mate; she just wants to have a good time. He plays along, but when a dark and powerful being marks her for death, he’s determined to stay by her side in spite of her protests. Now that he’s found his mate, he means to keep her safe no matter what the cost…even if he has to risk it all.

REVIEW:
Nothing says love like a golden glow and blue flames.
Sure Bran acts like your typical Alpha at times but he is head over heels for Keelin. Which was fun to watch him figure out how to get what he wants without pulling the Alpha card. Well the Alpha card is played but in a very nice way.
Keelin is determined not to mate with Bran. Even if every part of her wants him. The struggle between these two is get fun. But in the end sometime you just have to roll with the punches and let fate have her way.
Awe, it was great to be back in Ms. Reus’ world of dragons and all things paranormal. I really enjoyed Bran and Keelin’s story. I was hoping for a little more drama surrounding Keelin. But all in all it was another great story from Ms. Reus. And the set up for the next book. Oh boy!! Bo is going to have his hands full.

soulbound

Once two souls are joined . . .

When Adam’s soul mate rejected him, there was more at stake than his heart. After seven hundred years of searching, his true match would have ended the curse that keeps his spirit in chains. But beautiful, stubborn Eliza May fled-and now Adam is doomed to an eternity of anguish, his only hope for salvation gone…

Their hearts will beat together forever

No matter how devilishly irresistible Adam was, Eliza couldn’t stand the thought of relinquishing her freedom forever. So she escaped. But she soon discovers she is being hunted-by someone far more dangerous. The only man who can help is the one man she vowed never to see again. Now Adam’s kindness is an unexpected refuge, and Eliza finds that some vows are made to be broken

*EXCERPT*

Eliza sat back on her heels, while Adam merely stared at her as though he had all the time in the world. “Fine,” she said. “Three weeks. I free you and you help me.” She gave him a warning look. “I’ll need your word that you will help me, that this” she waved her hand between them, “isn’t merely a way to trick me into freeing you.”
“This business was your idea, woman,” he said with affront.
“Nevertheless, I’ll need your word.”
The demon’s nostrils flared with a sharp exhalation. “My word then.” Eliza did not look away from him, and he glared back in obvious exasperation. “What now?”
“I’m merely considering if I ought to trust your word,” she said.
A low growl rumbled in his chest as he bared his teeth. “I keep my word, whether I want to or not. My word is my bond. Honor, Miss May. Unlike you, I have it.”
“How dare you—”
“How dare you?” He craned forward, the muscles along his shoulders bunching. “Not so long ago you broke your promise of fealty. To me!”
“Oh, yes, how quick you are to remind me.” Eliza leaned close, grinding her teeth to keep in a shout. “You enjoy being quick, don’t you?”
His thick, dark brows furrowed. “What in the bloody blazes are you talking about?”
“You gave me all of ten seconds to make a choice.” Eliza’s fists ached from clenching them. “And what a choice. I was dead, my body sliced open, my blood on the ground. I would have done anything, anything,” she thumped her fist to her chest, “to get back my life.”
“So that makes it better?” he snapped back in outrage. “Desperation gives you leave to go back on your word?”
“No. That is not what I meant.”
“Then you agree that you bloody well have no honor—”
“You never explained what was involved. You never said I’d be chained to you, like some animal, for the rest of my days,” Eliza shouted. “I was told I would be a GIM. I was ready to serve you in that manner. You knew full well that’s what I believed. If anything, you swindled me!”
All at once, he sagged, though he still eyed her with resentment and distaste. Well, she had a healthy helping of those feelings for him too.
“Tick, tock, Eliza,” she mimicked. “You rushed me because you didn’t want me to think things over.”
When he broke eye contact, his hard jaw twitched.
“I’m correct, aren’t I?” Ire and a red rage surged up within her. “And you have the brass to sit on your high horse and talk of honor. Well let me tell you something, demon. There is little honor in forcing a person’s hand. Or using your power to coerce those weaker than you.”
A black scowl twisted the demon’s face as he glared at some distant point. “Fine. May I continue, or have you more complaints to heap upon my head?”
“Please do continue,” Eliza granted.
His golden gaze flicked back to her. “I want to kiss you.”
“No.” The word burst out of her with force. “Absolutely not.”
Unfazed, Adam shrugged. “Unless you have something to offer in exchange for your freedom, Mellan and Mab will, as you say, merely hunt us down, and you’ll be back to where you started.”
“Then I shall find out what he wants.” Eliza straightened her back. She could do that. She must. Like hell was she going to kiss this demon.
Adam simply gave her a slow, wicked half-smile. “Fortunately for you, lass, I already know what he wants. What they both want. More than controlling you. More than torturing me, even.”
“Then why in blazes haven’t you used it to secure your own freedom?” Eliza blurted out.
“I’m only alive because they cannot break me into revealing where this item might be.” The belligerence burning in his eyes was gone in a blink, replaced by a look of pure cunning. “However, I might be persuaded to help you use the knowledge. All I require is— ”
“Fine,” she snapped, irritation getting the best of her. “I’ll kiss you.”
Silence fell, and Adam stared at her with those eyes of his. Devil’s eyes. Eyes that made a woman forget herself. Heat rose up over her breasts and crawled along the back of her neck. Eliza grasped her skirts, her fingers twitching. She would kiss him. Kiss a man who had brought her nothing but irritation. Maybe she’d bite him to boot.
His chest, gleaming with sweat, rose and fell in a soft pattern. A bead of perspiration broke free from the top of his shoulder and ran down along the firm rise of his pectoral muscles, straight toward the dark nub of his nipple. All this time arguing with him, she’d forgotten his state of undress. Not so now. She’d have to press up against those hard muscles, touch his skin. Eliza wrenched her gaze back to his face, and his sinful lips curled in a knowing smile.
“You know,” he said casually, “I believe I shall pass for the moment. I’d rather it be when you aren’t wearing such a sour face. Kills a bloke’s ardor, you realize.”
Eliza blinked. And then his meaning hit her. “Why you…rutting…cheap, trickster…”
He laughed, a flash of even teeth. “Come now, Eliza, fret not.” He stopped then, that obnoxious smile growing and heating with promise. “I’ll take that kiss soon enough. ”
She rose to her feet in a rustle of skirts. “And I’ll be sure to bite that wicked tongue when you do!”
She marched out of the cell, slamming it behind her, as he began to laugh again. Bastard. She might just leave him here to rot after all. His laughing taunt echoed through the dark. “Now that I know tongues are involved, I’ll be sure to collect.”

Jennifer’s Review of Soulbound

Review (4.5 Stars):  This is an absolutely amazing series and each story keeps getting better and better! I’ve always been interested in Adam, the mysterious leader of the GIM and in Soulbound, we finally get answers to who Adam really is.  We first meet Eliza back in Shadowdance, when she was saved after being brutally attacked by street thugs.  In return for saving her life, Eliza had to agree to bind herself to Adam to serve him for a period of time until she could receive her freedom.  What Eliza didn’t know in the beginning was that she was Adam’s true soul mate and the only person that could save him from the personal hell he had been living in for seven hundred years. She turned her back on him and escaped, only to come to face-to-face with him when she least expects it a few years later.  Now, everything that Eliza has known comes into question and she looks to Adam for help, bringing him a second chance to win over the one woman that he is meant to be with.

Soulbound is a fascinating paranormal romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  Ms. Callihan is a very talented writer and each book in her Darkest London series is a breathtaking adventure that can’t be missed.  Eliza was a tough character who seemed disillusioned with everything after she met Adam.  She had a hard time showing emotion for me but Adam seemed to be able to bring out the best and the worst of her.  In previous books, Adam seemed cold and calculating and always seemed to have an ulterior motive for everything he did.  Eliza kept him on his toes and I was glad to see a softer side of Adam that I didn’t even know existed for this character.  He had a lot to make up to Eliza for how he treated her while she was with him and I’m glad to see that he was able to make amends for his actions.  These two belonged together and it was nice to witness their journey back to one another even if it had quite a few bumps along the way.  Soulbound is the sixth book in the series and I strongly suggest that you start with Firelight and work your way up to Soulbound.  There are so many wonderful characters and stories from the previous books that will add to the enjoyment of this one and these intriguing adventures in Darkest London are worth the ride.

“What is Scotland like? I’ve never been, at least not that I know of.” Miss Tyne rested her elbows on the wooden table, her eyes the brightest spark in the dimly lit pub.

Conversation had stopped when the food arrived. Both he and Miss Tyne were apparently starving, since they spent the first fifteen minutes of their meal together in complete silence, both just concentrating on eating.

He’d glanced at her a few times, of course, just to ensure they weren’t in some sort of awkward silence of which he wasn’t aware, but she seemed just as happy as he was not to talk. That was unexpected, given how much she seemed to like to talk. Unexpected, but not one of those unpleasant unexpected surprises; instead, it felt as though he might not know all about her yet. That was unusual as well; normally he could assess a person within a few minutes of making their acquaintance.

“It’s like here, I suppose.”

“Here like a pub, filled with laborers and solicitors and men who seem as though they are very important? Possibly a few women who appreciate the company of important men?” Her smirk told him she was joking. That she saw fit to do so was another unexpected item to add to the list of things he now knew about her. Few people joked with him, and of those, he liked very few of their jokes.

What made her so different from most people?

“No, Miss Literal, not like here.” He allowed himself to roll his eyes at her. Something he normally chided his sisters for doing. Of course, they were usually rolling their eyes at him. “Where I live, in town, Edinburgh that is, is a busy city much like London. Different accents, of course, but most things are the same.”

Now it was her turn to roll her eyes. “Honestly, the same? I should think not, and I’ve never even been there! The people, the language, the food, the habits, the celebrations, the clothes—all of those things are different in different areas. The west side of London is different from the docks, correct? You wouldn’t say all of London is all the same; how can you say Edinburgh is?”

She waved her hand around the pub. “Even here, where things are the same, the people are different. You, for example, are clearly of the nobility; your linen is fresh, your clothing is well-kept and well-made, and you are well-groomed.” She picked his hand up from the table and examined his fingers. “Your nails are cut, and you don’t even have any dirt underneath your fingernails.”

He drew his hand back and looked at it. She was correct, and he hadn’t even thought about it.

“Now look at my hand,” she said, stretching it out to him. He took it, the warmth of her skin reminding him of before when his naked body had been close to hers, however briefly.

He could not get distracted by that, however. It wasn’t practical.

Her hand was small and its shape was delicate, but the skin was rough and her fingernails were ragged, although clean. He looked at the back of her hand, then turned her hand over and looked at her palm, which had a few red spots where calluses were beginning to form.

“You’re not a housekeeper,” he said, sliding the pad of his finger along one of those new calluses. “If you were accustomed to this sort of work, your hands would be rougher. You obviously work with your hands in some capacity, but not doing what you did today.”

“Oh!” she said, snatching her hand back and stuffing them into her pockets. “You are very observant, even if you think two completely different cities are similar to one another.” She stuck her tongue out at him quickly, then clapped her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide. “I am so sorry, I should not have done that.”

Matthew tried to keep himself from smiling, but couldn’t, not in the face of such . . . joy. She was practically overflowing with it, and he wished he could figure out a way to capture some of that joy for himself. “I am not offended at all; in fact my sisters would be applauding you right now.” He spoke in a lower tone. “I am very glad they are not here for that very reason.” Not to mention he was definitely liking being alone with her, and wasn’t that another surprise?

“Shall we go?” Matthew said, signaling to the man behind the bar. He made the “final bill” gesture, then drew out a few coins from his pocket and laid them on the table.

The barkeep came bustling over, an obsequious smile on his face. “Four shillings, my lord.”

Matthew counted out the four shillings, then rose from his seat.

The barkeep picked up the coins, scowling. “You’re Scottish, aren’t you?” he said in an accusing tone.

Why did that keep coming up?

Matthew didn’t bother to reply, just strode around to Miss Tyne’s side of the table and took her cloak, holding it up so she could put it on.

As she wriggled into it, her arm brushed his side, and Matthew felt something very unexpected indeed.

Something he wished to expect more of, and hopefully in the near future.

Jennifer’s Review of When Good Earls Go Bad

Review (4 Stars): This was a fun, romantic tale that had me laughing as I turned the pages.  Annabelle agrees to take the position of a housekeeper for the visiting Earl of Selkirk for one month to prevent her employment agency from missing out on a client.  She never expected that the Earl would be devilishly handsome and a stickler for the rules. These two may soon find that love doesn’t always go according to plan and life can’t be lived by rules alone.

Matthew was so uptight in the beginning of this story until he met the carefree, spirited Annabelle.  She only planned to take the job for a month so she wouldn’t lose out on any business and ended up falling in love instead.  These two were adorable together and she seemed to have this natural way to break down Matthew’s rigid walls without much effort.  Delightful romantic tale from a fabulous new author.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A purrr-fectly scintillating new novel from the national bestselling author of Accidentally Demonic.

Katie Woods never thought she’d be forty-one, divorced, and thrust back into the dating world. To start fresh, Katie uproots her veterinary practice to upstate New York-not exactly the hottest dating scene on the planet. But when an unconscious cougar appears at her clinic, Katie’s newly single life gets a much needed jolt of the supernatural kind.

After Katie examines the cougar and leaves him caged overnight, she’s shocked to find a big strapping specimen of young, hot man in its place. And when the scratch she got during the exam results in some unnatural side effects, Katie has more to deal with than her animal attraction to a much younger guy-she has to figure how to stop herself from becoming a cougar of the four-legged variety.

REVIEW:
The last thing that Dr. Woods ever expected to find on her doorstep is a cougar. But when said cougar scratches her strange things start happening. To make matters worse Katie’s lovely assistant has called OOPS for help. What is OOPS you say? You will need to pick up a copy of Accidentally Catty to find out. But in the mean time Dr. Katie Woods just learned that she is a cougar shifter and the person responsible is not only a cougar but a very naked and yummy man locked in one of her crates. Let the chaos ensue.

Another fun book from Ms. Cassidy. Ms Cassidy can never let her Accidentals have a simple time of things. I loved Katie & Shaw. They are both stubborn and have a wicked sense of humor. We get to see all the other Accidentals too. Wanda and Nina play a huge roll in this book.

And as always Ms. Mitchell does a great job bring the characters to life. And Shaw so dreaming. Thank you Ms. Mitchell for doing such a great job with Shaw. On to the next one 🙂

As an unlikely partnership sparks into something so much more, and a killer closes in, can Ella and Gabe learn to trust one another before it’s too late?

REVIEW:
This was my first book by Jennifer Ryan. At Wolf Ranch is the first book in her new Montana Men series. This was a good story. The beginning of this book is heartbreaking. But as the story goes on I learned that what you see is not always what you get. Ella is not the party girl that the world thinks she is. She is one tough cookie who is willing to do anything to find the truth. A truth that might just get her killed.
Gabe is dream in the way that all hunky yummy cowboys are. He is so amazing with Ella and the events that happen in this book.
Of course I don’t want to give anything away. But if you are looking for a new read and love cowboys, love suspense and love romance I would highly suggest you pick up a copy of At Wolf Ranch. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Because the memories locked inside her mind could hold vital clues to the next attack. Because terrorists want her dead—and because he never wants to let her go again.

REVIEW:
As I read over my original review of Bound to Danger (below) I find that I loved this book just as much the second time around as I did the first time. But this go around I listened on audio. Sophie Eastlake does a good job of bringing Ms. Reus’ characters to life. My only complaint is that at time the male voice sound a little stuffy. But other than that, I enjoyed the non-stop action of this story.

Original review: Eight years is a long time to stay away from the one you love. But that is what Cade O’Reilly did and he had his reasons. But when Maira’s name come acrossed the board as needing protection he know that he was the only one that could do it. He will do anything for Maira, except let her go this time. This time he plans to stay, but will Maira want him to after she learns of his secrets?

Bound to Danger is the second book in Katie Reus’ news Deadly Ops series. Bound to Danger is every bit as good as Targeted (bk 1). From page one there is not stop action. And even in the middle of a life and death situation Katie is able to let our hero & heroine have a great love story.

WILL A FEW FLIRTATIOUS STEPS

Harry Norcliffe never wanted to inherit his beloved uncle’s title. The rigidity of the ton, the incessant reminders from his marriage-minded mama that he must settle down with a highborn lady and produce an heir and a spare: it’s all such a dreadful bore. So when his mother asks him to take part in a dancing competition, he patently refuses. The last thing he needs is another chore . . . until a beautiful, brilliant, delightfully tempting maid makes him rethink his position.

LEAD TO A SCANDALOUS SEDUCTION?

She could use a friend, though, and what begins innocently soon ignites into desire. As Lucy tries to resist Harry’s scorching kisses, he makes an utterly irresistible offer. Enter the dance contest with him, and win a prize that could change her life forever . . . if falling in love doesn’t change it first.

REVIEW:
Finally we get Harry’s book. I have really liked Harry since first met him on that wet soggy night. He has been one of my favorites, right after Bells. And Harry’s story is just perfect for him.

As the last unmarried of his friends he has started to re-think his lifestyle after the death of his favorite Uncle. Harry finally meets his match in Lucy.

Lucy is one tough cookie. Lucy not only has to take care of herself but her ailing grandmother. Not an easy thing to do when you are a women in London. But a chance in counter with Sir Galahad will change everything.

I loved this story. I have enjoyed this whole series. If you have enjoyed the first two book in the Sinful Scoundrels you will love Harry’s book. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Dreiling has in store for us next.

Jennifer’s Review of Heartbreak Cove

Review (4.25 Stars): Sanctuary Island is a place that I would love to visit over and over again and Heartbreak Cove is a great addition to this charming series.  Sheriff Andie Shepard was getting comfortable in her new life in Sanctuary Island and wasn’t planning for romance until Sam Brennan came back into her life changing everything.  Sam was back in town to rehabilitate a horse and can’t fight the increasing attraction that he has always felt for Andie.  While all this is happening, Andie discovers that she has a niece that she never knew existed and has to care for her until her father returns from the military.  With more on her plate than expected, Andie spends more time with Sam rehabilitating horses to help Caitlin and soon discover that love may be in their future after all.

Andie portrayed herself as a tough character that could handle anything but that was an image that she worked so hard to create.  She had a troubled home life growing up and was used to having order to help her get by.  Sam had a difficult childhood as well and they just were perfect for each other.  They balanced each other out and had such great chemistry with one another.   Sam was great with Andie’s niece, Caitlin, because he saw a little bit of himself in her.  He was able to reach her in ways that Andie couldn’t and it was just amazing to watch Caitlin’s personality slowly emerge when she was around horses. Love and patience can help heal anything and for Sam and Andie, it was exactly what they needed.

This is the third book in the Sanctuary Island series and it was great getting updates on previous characters and seeing what they have been up to since the last book.  Heartbreak Cove was a touching, light-hearted romance that readers will definitely enjoy and I can’t wait to visit these lovely characters again soon.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The devilish new novel from the national bestselling author of The Accidental Human

When mild-mannered Casey Schwartz wakes up in jail, she has no memory of how she got there. But after her sister, Wanda, bails her out, Casey has more to deal with than a foggy memory-like abrupt mood swings and fireballs shooting from her fingertips. But things really head south when a vampire shows up on her doorstep…

Vampire Clayton Gunnersson is seriously hot. And seriously taken-by a demon. In a ritual gone wrong, Clayton tried to get rid of his unwanted bond, but spilled some demonic blood on Casey, getting her possessed in the process. Now, Casey has to share her body and manage to keep her growing attraction to Clayton in check, because falling for her demon’s boyfriend just might get Casey killed-from the inside out.

REVIEW:
In Accidentally Demonic we get to finally met Wanda long lost sister Casey. Unfortunately it begins with Casey calling Wanda from jail. But that is just the beginning of Casey’s problems. Seems Casey has a little problem with fireballs, floating, horns and a very hot vampire.

Clayton has been living a lie for years. Okay more like centuries. But when he thinks has a way to rid himself of his demons he jumps at it. Sadly, things didn’t go according to plan. Now Clay’s problems include the cute Casey Schwartz.

Another fun book from Ms. Cassidy. I really liked Casey and Clay’s story. At times the story was a little slow. And there were a few times that I thought to myself “What why is this happening?” or “When did that rule change?” But as the story went on I did get my questions answered. Looking forward to the next story in this series.

As always Ms. Mitchell does a great job. My only issue with this audio version was there was a lot of yelling that does not translate very well.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Snowed In by Sarah Title

Snowed In

There’s nothing like a hot kiss on a cold day…

Librarian Maureen O’Connell might have predicted she’d find herself crying into the ice cream case at the supermarket after a bad breakup—but she definitely never imagined that a guy hot enough to melt the Rocky Road would flirt with her right there in the freezer aisle. Only Gavin Fraser isn’t a fantasy, he’s a mouth-watering new flavor…

When a freak snowstorm strands Maureen at Gavin’s after just one date, it’s a perfect excuse for something a lot steamier than hot chocolate in front of the fire. It’s definitely lust. Can it also be love?

By the time she got to the ice cream freezer, Maureen couldn’t hold it in any more. So she just let it go. Why not?
It was a Friday night. Now that she was apparently single, why not let fat, ugly tears stain her oversized, hooded sweatshirt while she stood in the ice cream aisle of the grocery store?
“There’s frozen yogurt, you know.”

Maureen jumped and turned to see . . . well, a god. He was at least a head taller than she. His brown hair was a smidge too long and curled into the collar of his flannel shirt. His jaw was strong and sharp—a man face. His dark eyebrows emphasized deep blue eyes—eyes that were looking at her with curiosity, sympathy, and, if she wasn’t mistaken, a hint of mischief.

“I’m sorry?”

“If you’re so upset about the calories, try frozen yogurt.” “Oh, no, it’s not that, it’s just—” Maureen was stammering.

Stammering in front of a god.

“Kidding.”

“Oh. Ha.” Bad jokes. Okay, so he wasn’t perfect.

“Sorry. I do my best work in produce.” Damn, that was cute. He’s definitely perfect, Maureen thought as she stood there dumbly, unable to process the perfection of his face (and those shoulders—even through his beat-up leather jacket she could see he had strong shoulders).

Not to mention the fact that a god was making bad jokes at her while she stood crying with the freezer door open.

“Can I just—” He reached around her for a pint of mint chocolate chip.

“Oh, my gosh, yes, sorry.” Maureen completed that articulate thought by backing into her shopping cart.

“Hey, easy now,” the god said as he placed a steadying hand on her arm. Even through her sweatshirt she could feel his hand was warm and strong.

“Listen, are you okay?”

“What? Yes! I’m fine.”

“It’s just that I don’t always see beautiful women crying in front of the ice cream.”

Ha. Beautiful. “Where do you usually see them crying?” He laughed. “Nowhere, if I can help it.” “Well, I don’t usually do this. I’m just a little . . . emotional,” she sniffed, wiping her nose on her sleeve. Smooth, Maureen. Real smooth.

“I can see that.”

“I didn’t mean to bother you.”

“The only thing that will bother me is if I leave this store without seeing you smile. I bet you have a great smile.” She raised an eyebrow. Was he flirting? He was pretty sure of himself. Probably came from being so perfect.

“Ah, a look of disdain,” he said. “We’re getting somewhere.

So, what’s it gonna take to make you smile?” “Maybe I just don’t feel like smiling, okay? Maybe I have nothing to smile about.”

“Did your dog die?”

“What?”

“Is that why you’re crying? Your dog?” “No, I don’t have a dog.”

“Did you lose your job?”

“No.”

“Inoperable cancer?”

“No! That’s not funny.”

“Well, what else is there to cry about?” “My boyfriend, okay? My stupid boyfriend decided after two years that he’s ‘not feeling it’ so he dumped me.” “Idiot.”

“And I was naked!”

She caught him looking her up and down, no doubt taking in her spinster sweats and frazzled hair. “Double idiot.” “Yeah, right.”

“You know what you need?”

“A hit man?”

He laughed again, quick and smooth. “No. What you need is someone to take your mind off your boyfriend. Exboyfriend.” “Are you propositioning me? In a grocery store?” He looked a little flustered, but soldiered on. “I’ve seen it dozens of times. Beautiful, sharp women dropped by undeserving idiot men. And you’re going to go home and drown your sorrows in ice cream and wonder what you did wrong.” “Are you suggesting I shouldn’t eat ice cream?” “Hey, I’ve got no problem with ice cream,” he said, indicating the pint melting in his cart. “I have a problem with you feeling bad.”

“You don’t even know me.”

“I know you’re gorgeous.”

Maureen snorted.

“Okay, almost a smile. Have a drink with me?” He took a step forward.

Maureen felt somewhere in the back of her mind that she should step back. But he smelled good, like that crisp Irish soap she loved, so she didn’t.

Instead, she matched his step forward.

“Gorgeous, huh?”

“Absolutely. I love this hair.” He fingered a blonde curl that had escaped her ponytail. “Your freckles are adorable.” He ran a finger over her cheeks. “Your lips,” he ran a thumb over her lower lip, and Maureen couldn’t take it anymore.

She took that last step, closing the distance between them, and his mouth came down to meet hers. His lips were soft and warm, and she felt his fingers gently tickle her neck as she opened her mouth to let him in.

All of her tension, all of her heartache rushed out of her the moment her tongue touched his. At first he was tentative, but she began to wrestle his mouth, fighting to get closer.

His hands moved boldly down her back, pulling her hips until she slammed into him. She threw her arms around his neck and tilted her head so he could move deeper, deeper, exploring her with teeth and tongue. She lifted her foot onto the lip of the open freezer, tipping her knee out so she cradled his hips and the impressive bulge in his jeans. She clamped her fingers in his hair to get a hold on him because she thought she was melting away and she wasn’t ready for this to be over. This was nothing like kissing Dave. This man was a complete stranger and his kiss possessed her, bewitched her more thoroughly than Dave ever had. He wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her off her feet so she was pressed against him, molded to solid muscle. He felt so strong and so sure.

But a girl had to breathe. Reluctantly, she pulled back and he gently lowered her to the ground. She was glad to see he was as dazed and breathless as she was.

“Whoa.”

His simple exclamation, said on a swift exhale, hit her right in the gut. She had done that to him. She, disheveled and in sweatpants, had flummoxed a god.

She looked up into those deep blue eyes, still dark with passion.

And she smiled.

“I guess I do have something to smile about.”

Jennifer’s Review of Snowed In

Review (4 Stars): Snowed In was a delightful romance where two people discover that fate steps in when you least expect it.  Maureen has just been dumped by her boyfriend and finds herself in tears in the middle of the ice cream aisle when Gavin steps in, trying just about anything to make this beautiful stranger smile.  What started as a chance encounter turns into something more when they find themselves snowed in with no option but to get to know each other better.  Things are about to heat up for these two and this one night may turn into forever.

This was a fun, sexy novella that is fast-paced and will definitely keep your attention.  I liked Maureen and Gavin together and I thought it was extremely brave of Maureen to take a chance with Gavin right after meeting him in the grocery store.  They barely knew each other’s names but they had that spark and instant attraction that made them want to find out more about each other.  Their chemistry was off the charts and I was sad when this story came to an end because I wanted to read more about these characters.  Ms. Title did a great job with Snowed In and I would love to read more from her Southern Comfort series.
