EXIT_STRATEGY

When Sabrina Hightower awakens to the sound of an intruder, she figures he’s there to rob her, murder her— or worse. She doesn’t expect to be carried off by a muscle-bound stud with male-model good looks… or that he came to rescue her.

Mason Hunt became an enforcer with EXIT Inc. to eliminate the bad guys—terrorists, militia groups, all those who would do America harm. But his latest target is innocent. If EXIT could lie about sultry, strong-willed Sabrina, what darker truths might they be concealing?

Going rogue in the rugged North Carolina Mountains, Mason risks everything to keep Sabrina close, especially now that EXIT’s lethal assassins are chasing them down. The heat is on… but it’s nothing compared to the slow burn of seduction.

He stared at the ground for a long time while Sabrina watched him. He still hadn’t told her exactly how he’d gotten the scars. She hoped he would tell her someday…if indeed there would be a someday for them. If she even had a future. A shiver went up her spine and she couldn’t help but feel that something very bad was about to happen.
“Come on.”
Mason held his hand out toward her, with no signs of the darkness that had come over him just moments ago.
“I’ll cook us a mean breakfast,” he said, his southern accent deliciously swirling the words together.
“I thought you already had breakfast? I had a bowl of cereal.”
“I worked off all of those calories. I’m hungry again.”
His sexy wink had her face flushing hot. She cleared her throat. “I also thought you couldn’t cook.”
He let out an exaggerated sigh. “Technicalities. I’m sure between the two of us we can figure something out.”
They started to pass the truck on the way to the house, when Mason pulled his hand out of hers. “Wait, I left my watch in the tack room.”
Because he’d taken it off for shower sex. She sighed dreamily. He winked, apparently knowing exactly why she’d sighed, and bent down to kiss her.
Bam!
The deep-throated bark of a gun shattered the morning. A shower of wooden splinters rained down from the side of the barn, right where Mason’s head had been a half-second before he’d leaned down to kiss her.
He swore and grabbed her, throwing her to the ground as more shots rang out.
“Where are they coming from?” she yelled, as he scrambled backward and yanked her behind the barn with him.
“The house.” A beeping noise sounded from inside the tack room. “And that would be my perimeter alarm going off. Damn it. I screwed up. I shouldn’t have taken off the watch.”
“I’ll try not to take offense at that ‘screw up’ statement since I’m the screw-up.”
He winced and pulled her farther away from the corner as more shots cracked against the barn. “Sorry,” he said, as he grabbed his gun. “Didn’t mean that the way it sounded.”
She raised her leg and grabbed the Sig out of her ankle holster. “You’re forgiven, if you get us out of this alive.” Another shot burst through the wood right beside her shoulder.
Mason grabbed her and pulled her down closer to the ground. “We’ve got to get out of here.”

Jennifer’s Review of Exit Strategy

Review (4.25 Stars): This book had me from the beginning and didn’t let go until the very end.  I loved Sabrina and Mason because they just fit so well together and Mason definitely meet his match with Sabrina’s determined and spunky attitude.  Mason was a very sexy, mysterious man so I could see Sabrina’s attraction to him and the heat between these two characters was off the charts.

Exit Strategy was action-packed with enough danger and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  The mystery as to why Sabrina was targeted for termination was well-written and will definitely keep you guessing.  I wanted to learn more about some of the background characters who came to this story with so much history and I’m looking forward to going back to Ms. Diaz’s previous books to fill in the gaps.  I enjoyed every minute of Exit Strategy and I’m looking forward to the next installment in this suspenseful series.

RESCUE ME

Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .

The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance .

REVIEW:
Cider Ridge is the setting for Ms. Shalvis’ new series. We get introduced to the Kincaid family and their struggles to keep the family business afloat. In Second Chance Summer we focus on Aidan the second oldest of the Kincaid kids. There is nothing more important than family to Aidan. Except maybe the girl that broke his heart who just happens to be back in town. As we read we learn why family is so important and why some people are not. We also learn a lot about what Aidan is willing to do for love.
Lily is only back in town because she has not choice. If she had it her way she would have never stepped foot in this town again. But while there may be too many bad memories, Lily is about to find out that facing the past is the key to healing and having a bright future.
Loved it!! I love that we have a new series from Ms. Shalvis. I always love reading her books and getting engrossed into the world she has created. Loved Aidan. Everyone needs someone like Aidan in their life. Someone they know will drop everything for them and run to their rescue, even when they don’t think they need to be rescued.
Lily, she is was smart tough cookie that finally learns that it is okay to be rescued. I really liked the struggle that Lily went through in this book. I think that by the end she is a force to be reckoned with and the Kincaid kids need to watch out.
If you have read any of the Jill’s books in the past you will love this book too. She has all the drama, humor, witty characters, the is it time to grab a tissue and very yummy smexy time that you will find in all Jill’s books. If you have not read Jill yet, please refer to the previous sentence about “the drama, humor, witty characters, the is it time to grab a tissue and very yummy smexy time”. So in short: add this book to your read list!!!

Jennifer’s Review of Fatal Fairies

Review (4 Stars): This was such a fun mystery!  Jessie and Chase are planning to celebrate their first wedding anniversary when Chase is called away to investigate the murder of a fairy, Apple Blossom, that was found dead in the fountain.  Jessie makes a fateful wish that Chase wasn’t the Baliff and her whole world changes to an alternate time where Chase isn’t the Baliff and they aren’t even a couple.  Now, Jessie must help her fairy godmother solve the mystery of Apple Blossom to return her life back to normal or be stuck without Chase for good.

These characters feel like family to me and I always love spending time with Jessie and Chase.  I was heartbroken right along with Jessie when she found out that her wish changed her entire life and she had to have Chase fall in love with her all over again before everything would return back to normal.  The entertaining thing about this mystery was seeing characters that have passed on in previous books alive and well and causing Jessie trouble again.

Fatal Fairies is a wickedly fun thrill-ride of a mystery for readers.  I absolutely love this series and I can’t wait to read the next book that these talented writers publish next.

Kimberly reviews Somebody I Used To Know by David Bell

Someone i used to knowTITLE: Somebody I Used To Know
CHARACTERS: Nick Hansen
AUTHOR: David Bell
PUBLICATION DATE: 07/07/15
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The breakout author of The Forgotten Girl and Cemetery Girl, “one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time” (Suspense Magazine) delivers a new novel about a man who is haunted by a face from his past….

When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She is the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire twenty years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off.

The next morning the police arrive at Nick’s house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. She’s been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nick’s name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket.

Convinced there’s a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend Laurel Davidson to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissa’s death. But the young woman’s murder is only the beginning…and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.

REVIEW:
I have not read this author before but I will be reading him again. This story had a number of different twists which meant it was a quick read for me since I could not put it down.

So in general Nick is thrown back into his past to the life, love and death of Marissa when a woman who is the spitting image of her is seen on the street by him and as hard as that is to deal with alone the next day the cops show up because the woman has been found dead. So Nick is thrust into the death of this mystery woman as well as reliving the death of Marissa.

I really enjoyed Nick. The writing was concise and enjoyable. With all the twists I was unable to figure out pretty much anything. Every time I thought I had the mystery figured out I was proven wrong and that to me is the ideal when reading a book like this.

If you are a fan of the genre than I think you will enjoy this. You will not be disappointed.

Kelly reviews Commanded by Stacey Kennedy

SERIES #: Club Sin #6
CHARACTERS: Sawyer Quinn & Chloe Nash
AUTHOR: Stacey Kennedy
PUBLICATION DATE: July 7, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A dedicated cop, Sawyer Quinn blows off steam by immersing himself in his role as a Master at the hottest club in Las Vegas. But when Sawyer goes after the perp who brutally beat his sister, he teams up with Chloe Nash, a sexy private investigator who awakens a sweet new need: to keep her to himself, away from the dungeon of Club Sin. Chloe is beautiful, smart, and too innocent for the BDSM lifestyle. Sawyer’s never wanted a woman like this before. Is her love worth swearing off the one thing that keeps him sane?

There’s something different about Sawyer: a commanding strength that pulls Chloe into a vortex of heady desire. But when she learns about his double life as a Dom, she’s shocked—and afraid she could never complete him. Then he saves her life, and just like that, Chloe knows she will be able to give him anything he desires. She is his—wherever and however he wants to take her.

REVIEW:

Commanded opens with a major shock to the Quinn family. Sawyer’s little sister is attacked. But they can’t track down the accused. Sawyer turns to his pal Porter and Porter’s best private investigator. Who also happens to hold the star role in many of Sawyer’s recent fantasies, to bad Ms. Chloe Nash has a boyfriend…..
Another great story from Stacey. Sawyer and Chloe make a great copy. Chloe is the yin to Sawyers yang. I felt like Commanded took the whole Club Sin series to a new level. Yes, there was BDSM. Yes, there was a lot of sexy time. But we got to see a side to Sawyer that if his heroine had been anyone else we would have never seen. If you are a fan of this series you will enjoy this read. It is a quick read (one sitting for me). But a very enjoyable quick read.

Kimberly reviews A New Hope by Robyn Carr

PUBLICATION DATE: 01/01/15

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Starting over is never easy, but in Thunder Point, where newcomers are welcome and friends become family, it’s possible to find yourself again. In this brand-new story, #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr takes us on a moving and rewarding journey as a young woman finds new hope.

After losing her child, Ginger Dysart was lost in grief. But since moving to Thunder Point, a small town on the Oregon coast, and with the help of her cousin Ray Anne, Ginger is finally moving forward. Her job at the flower shop is peaceful and fulfilling, and she’s excited to start her first big assignment, assisting with the Lacoumette wedding.

In spite of her lasting heartache, Ginger finds herself swept up in the pleasure of the occasion. But the beauty of the Lacoumette farm and the joy of the gregarious family are ruined by an unfortunate encounter with the bride’s brother, Matt. Struggling with painful memories of his own recent divorce, Matt makes a drunken spectacle of himself and Ginger when he tries to make a pass at her, forcing Ginger to flee the scene in embarrassment.

But when Matt shows up at the flower shop determined to make amends, what started out as a humiliating first meeting blossoms into something much deeper than either of them expected. Discovering they have a lot in common, they form a solid friendship, though everyone around them worries that Ginger will end up with a broken heart yet again. But if Ginger has the courage to embrace the future, and if Matt can finally learn to let go of the past, there may still be hope for a happy ending.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is the latest visit to Thunder Point and i have enjoyed every one of these visits. Thunder Point is a small town romance with all the sweetness that a small town can handle. Ginger and Matt both have a bunch of baggage and aren’t sure they will ever get over it but then Matt makes a drunken pass at Ginger that goes terribly wrong and yet it changes their life forever.

I enjoyed Ginger a lot. While she has been through a lot she still has a good head on her shoulders. She has a way of being down to earth and knowing what needs to be done to bring peace to her past and later to Matt’s. Matt is a good guy. His ex-wife did something that he is not sure can ever be forgiven but somehow Ginger makes him understand that hate isn’t about the other person but about what it does to yourself.

There are a lot of life lessons in this story surrounded by romance. I enjoyed the check ins with locals that we have met in the past. Any fan of small town romance will love this book and even more the series. This book can be a stand alone but not sure why you wouldn’t want to start from book one and visit Thunder Point over and over again.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is a new series for Jill Shalvis and I really enjoyed it. I will say that it did feel that this was more like the second in the series since Aidan’s older brother Gray is married to Penny and it feels like we missed their story but apparently not. That being said the rest was great.

The beginning took a little bit to get into because we are learning everything about a new town, people, etc. But once we get the lay of the land he story is good. Aidan is a really sweet guy and is a caregiver. He wants to take care of Lily but Lily doesn’t think she needs to be taken care of and certainly doesn’t feel like she deserves love. But fate is something that people can’t control.

There is never a bad story from Shalvis. She has a way of drawing you into the small towns she creates. I will say I miss that the town wasn’t Lucky Harbor but we all have to move to a new town at some point in our lives and we learn to enjoy it and that is how I feel about Cedar Ridge. It may take some time but I am sure I will love it just as much as Lucky Harbor. And I look forward to Kenzie’s story and even more so to Hudson’s story. And I really want to know what happened to Jacob.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool’s Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart…

After Phoebe Kitzke’s kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool’s Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn’t exactly thrilled by the city girl’s arrival.

Thanks to his brother’s latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn’t fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she’s exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid.

In his arms, Phoebe discovers she’s a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can’t stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?

REVIEW:
As with all my visits to Fool’s Gold I am so glad to be back but so sad when it is time for me to leave again.
Kiss Me takes us to a different part of Fool’s Gold we are on the very outskirts of town. At Nicholson Ranch. And of course every good ranch has to have it’s own hunky, brooding, Adam Levine (Swoon) look a like pain in the butt, I am a rock cowboy who is just waiting to be recused. Okay, so many Zane isn’t waiting to be rescued. Boy is stubborn as the day is long. But when Ms. Phoebe shows up all of Zane’s I am fine, I am tough, I need no one shields all start grumbling down.
Phoebe Kitzke has been having a run of bad luck, first her ex, then her boss, then the threat of losing her livelihood. So when her best friend offers her a week of wide open spaces Phoebe jumps at the chance for a little R&R. Hehehe. R&R…Not on Nicholson Ranch.
I loved Kiss Me. Zane and Phoebe are great together. There were a lot of sub stories going on in Kiss Me. But I didn’t feel like any of them took away from Zane and Phoebe’s story. I will say that Zane better watch out because I think Manny might give him a run for Phoebe’s affection.
Can’t wait for my next visit to Fool’s Gold.

All while dealing with her man-hating mother, guarding her own heart from Khristos, and protecting herself from an invisible foe who might want to snatch Quinn’s newfound powers from her—dead or alive.

REVIEW:
Another fun adventure with Nina, Wanda, Marty and the gang. I will have to say that this was a little weird for me. I have listened to all of the Accidental books on audio book. I had gotten so use to the narrator reading to me that reading Aphrodite was a little strange.
But though I missed listening to the ladies of OOOPS I enjoyed Quinn and Khristos. The whole twist on Aphrodite and her newest side kicks high jinx was a lot of fun. And of course no story would be complete without Nina being Nina. Although it was a lot of fun to watch her try to mind her P’s and Q’s.
I can’t wait to see what is next for the Accidental world.

HE THOUGHT HE’D SEEN IT ALL . . .

The rogue’s life has been good to William Somerhall: He has his fortune, his racehorses, and his freedom. Then he moves in with his mother. It seems the eccentric Dowager Duchess of Worth has been barely skirting social disaster-assisted by one Miss Jenna Hughes, who is far too bright and beautiful to be wasting her youth as a paid companion. Now home to keep his mother from ruin, William intends to learn what’s afoot by keeping his friends close – and the tempting Miss Hughes closer still. . . .

UNTIL HE MEETS HER

He’s tall, dark, and damnably intelligent – unfortunately for Jenna. She and the duchess are in the “redistribution business,” taking from the rich and giving to the poor, and it’s going great – until he shows up. But even as William plots to make an honest woman out of her, Jenna will use all her wiles to reveal just how bad a rogue he can be . . .

For a moment, Worth looked stunned. “What the hell did you drop down the front of your dress?” he snarled.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Jenna replied placidly. She had gotten herself out of stickier situations than this. Distract and deflect. She dropped her hands again.
“I demand to know what you took.”
“Nothing, Your Grace.”
“You have something in the front of your dress,” he snapped.
“I have since I was twelve years old.”
Worth started in shock before he swiped his hands through his hair angrily. “You think this is funny?”
“A little.” She was forcing a sangfroid she didn’t feel.
The duke let out a string of expletives better suited to the London docks. “You have five seconds to produce whatever you have in the front of your dress, or I swear by all that is holy, I will rip your bodice in half and retrieve it for you.”
“Ah. Is this your area of expertise?”
That stopped him short. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Jenna smirked at him and cocked a brow. “I thought bodice ripping might be part of your overwhelming charm.”
Worth’s eyes darkened even further. “Very well, Miss Hughes, have it your way.”
God’s teeth, he was calling her bluff, and in truth, he had every right to do so. Though she’d be damned if she conceded. “Do your worst then,” she dared.
She watched as the duke’s hands went first to her shoulders, then to the edges of her bodice. She felt the backs of his fingers brush against her bare skin as he curled them under the seam at the top of her breasts. Jenna remained perfectly still, her breath caught in her chest and her heart thundering against her ribs.
He had long fingers. Beautiful fingers, actually, covered in small nicks and scars and calluses that attested to the fact this duke understood physical exertion. And they were tracing the neckline of her dress in slow, sure movements. Her stays were suddenly suffocating. The air around her had thickened. Every muscle in her body had clenched, and it wasn’t in fear. It was in anticipation.

Jennifer’s Review of A Good Rogue is Hard to Find

Review (4.5 Stars): This was such a fun and delightful romance that had me laughing out loud all afternoon.  Will had been searching for Jenna ever since their chance encounter at a ball and is shocked to find that she has been living at his mother’s home as her paid companion.  Will suddenly decides to stay with his mother to learn more about Jenna and discovers that this beautiful young woman has an agenda to rectify an ongoing injustice in their community.  Will must decide to help her or put a stop to her mission while Jenna will do everything in her power to change this handsome duke into a “good Rogue.”

I liked Jenna and Will together because their personalities fit so well together.  After spending time with Jenna, I could understand her reasons for what she did and sometimes it is easier to fight fire with fire to get things done.  At first, Will seemed like the type of guy who would be against everything that his mother and Jenna had been doing, but you could see that he was basically a good guy and would do anything to help them.  A Good Rogue is Hard to Find is the second book in the Lords of Worth series and even though I didn’t read the first one, it was very easy to follow along with this story.  Ms. Bowen is a new author to me but I love her style of writing and can’t wait to read more from this talented author.

There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I find those stories for a living.
To most, it looks like Beecher White has an ordinary job. A young staffer with the National Archives in Washington, D.C., he’s responsible for safekeeping the government’s most important documents . . . and, sometimes, its most closely held secrets.
But there are a powerful few who know his other role. The alarming discovery of the buried arm has the President’s team in a rightful panic. Who buried the arm? How did they get past White House security? And most important: What’s the message hidden in the arm’s closed fist? Indeed, the puzzle inside has a clear intended recipient, and it isn’t the President. It’s Beecher, himself.
Beecher’s investigation will take him back to one of our country’s greatest secrets and point him toward the long, carefully hidden truth about the most shocking history of all: family history.

REVIEW:
This is the third in the Beecher White series and the first thriller for Meltzer in over two years and I missed them.

Meltzer is interesting in the way he writes. He adds so much realism into his stories. The secrets he unearths are so fascinating. He is so known for the background being real and the interesting that he has had shows on these subjects. Decoded and Lost History are both interesting shows in case you haven’t seen them. Anyway…

If you enjoy fictional stories wrapped around facts you need to check out Brad Meltzer. This is set in the White House and Beecher may have a history with what he is uncovering. If you have not read a Meltzer book yet please try one because once you start you will not stop. If you have read him before you will love being back in his world of thrilling investigations.

As Presley and Mason soothe each other’s hurts, they find themselves falling for each other even as they fight it. But as they learn to forgive and fall in love, their pasts come back to haunt them and the future they thought they could have starts to crumble before it can take hold.

REVIEW:
Finally Found You was a quick, sweet and steamy read, therefore my review will be short and sweet too. As always Ms. Ryan writes a story that tugs at your heartstrings. I really enjoyed Mason & Presley’s story. They are so perfect for each other. How can you not love a couple that plays strip video games 🙂 I didn’t want their story to end. I want to know what happens next with these two. And I really would love to see that slimeball Trent get his just desserts (man I wanted to punch him in his smug little face).

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Carrie Ann Ryan in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
