Kimberly reviews Wanted by J. Kenner

WantedTITLE: Wanted
SERIES #: Most Wanted #1
CHARACTERS: Angelina & Evan
AUTHOR: J. Kenner
PUBLICATION DATE: 01/07/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
He is everything I crave, all I desperately want—and he is everything I can’t have.

Evan Black embodies my every fantasy. He is brilliant, fierce, and devastatingly handsome. But he is also headstrong, dangerous, and burdened with secrets.

My family warned me to stay away, that I could never handle Evan’s dark dealings or scarred past. Maybe I should have listened. Maybe I should have run. But our desire is undeniable, and some temptations you just can’t fight.

And from the moment we touch—the passion between us consuming us both—I know that I will never be the same.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Another great novel by J. Kenner. This probably falls under the erotica genre but I really do not see it that way. This is romance with some steamy sex. Yes it says fans of 50 Shades of Grey will love it and they probably will (I did) but this is about love and romance. It is about sex and control. It is not about BDSM nor fetishes.

I had a hard time getting to like Angelina. She seemed almost childlike in her crush and she seemed like a spoiled child not getting her way so she would do things to get people’s attention. However that is not her goal. She needs the thrill for herself. And eventually I found myself liking her. Evan is a powerful guy with secrets and he was fun to get to know.

I was really glad to see this story had an end. I know it is part of a series but it is not only the story of these two characters. I do not mind an ongoing story once in a while like in Kenner’s Stark series. But I don’t want them all to be. I hope we will learn more about the Knights in Heated but that it will be the story of another Knight.

Kenner has become one of my favorite authors and this story keeps her at the top of my list. I can’t wait for Heated.

Kelly reviews This Side Of The Grave by Jeaniene Frost

this side of graveTITLE: This Side of The Grave
SERIES #: Night Huntress #5
CHARACTERS: Cat & Bones
AUTHOR: Jeaniene Frost
PUBLICATION DATE: Feb. 22, 2011
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Danger waits on both sides of the grave.
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”; the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

REVIEW:
Cat finds herself in the middle of yet another battle. A battle that can only end one of two ways. With her death or the death of her enemy. And if Cat wants the paranormal world to know that she means business she will need to take down this enemy and make him an example.

Oh how I have missed Cat and Bones and their wild group of friends. I do have to say I am seriously in love with Vlad. 🙂 Favorite line from this book of course is from Vlad. “Premature inflamulation” he replied. “Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing. I don’t like to talk about it.”

Cat and Bones are such a great team. I just love how they play off each other, push each other and know when to back off and let each other stand on their own to feet.

Moving on to the next book 🙂

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

That’s fine with Luke McCormack. Divorced and hardly lacking in female company when he needs it, he’s devoted to the only faithful companion in his life—his police dog. Still, there’s something about Emma he can’t shake.
When a series of local break-ins leaves Emma vulnerable, she seeks help from the first man to spark her desire in years. And now they’re giving each other something they thought they’d lost forever… hope.

REVIEW:
Small town girl Emma Burnett has finally returned home. To say that the years since she left for college have be easy or fun would a lie. After a failed relationship, a return to school and finally following her dream, Emma finds herself the owner of a small veterinary clinic in her home town. But the last thing that Emma wants, needs or has time for is a man. Too bad the perfect man just walked through her door.

Luke is a little gun shy about women and relationships. After the embarrassment of his failed marriage Luke has vowed that he will never be in a relationship again. But after meeting the town’s newest vet he may have to rethink this whole single life thing.

Awesome start to a new series by Jaci Burton. Hope Flames brings us to the small town of Hope. We get to meet a fun cast of characters. Jaci always does a great job of bring her characters to life.

I am already looking forward to the next two books in this series Hope Ignites (4/14) & Hope Burns (10/14). If you love Jaci Burton you will love the Hope series!!!

Kelly reviews Dark Wolf by Christine Feehan

Dark WolfTITLE: Dark Wolf
SERIES #: Dark #25
CHARACTERS: Dimitri Tirunul & Skyler Daratrazanoff
AUTHOR: Christine Feehan
PUBLICATION DATE: January 7, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan now delivers her most eagerly awaited novel of all — ten years in the making.

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…

No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk

REVIEW:
It has been a while since I have read a Christine Feehan novell. I think I have read all of the Dark series books except the two prior to this one so I am familiar with Dimitri & Skyler. If you are new to this series you really should read the series in order, and yes there are a lot of books. But there is a lot of history in these books. That being said. I really did enjoy Dimitri & Skyler’s book.
Dimitri & Skyler make a wonderful couple. Skyler is a little gun shy about certain parts of life and Dimitri is so very patient with her. I really enjoyed the love story between these two. and really enjoyed learning more about Zev. But, and I know this because the next book is coming, I felt that there was no resolution to the who’s, what’s and why’s in this book.
I am looking forward to Zev & Bronnie’s book next!!

Jennifer’s Review of Forget Me Knot

Review (4 Stars): Very sweet mystery debut about three women who stumble into a mystery when they decide to add a fourth person into their quilting club. Martha Rose and her friends find the body of Claire Terry at her home when they approach her to join their Quilty Tuesdays.  Claire was known as a talented quilter and the ladies are surprised that anyone would want to hurt her. But when her prized quilts are stolen at Quilt Guild’s annual show, the ladies have to get involved to find the thief and possibly Claire’s murderer.

I really liked this book because it was light-hearted and fun.  Martha and the gang were a great cast of characters and I enjoyed learning more about quilting.  Delightful debut and looking forward to reading more from Ms. Marks.

Kelly reviews Alone by Kendra Elliot

AloneTITLE: Alone
SERIES #: Bone Secret #4
CHARACTERS: Seth Rutledge & Victoria Peres
AUTHOR: Kendra Elliot
PUBLICATION DATE: Jan 7, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
One rainy night in the woods outside of Portland, Dr. Victoria Peres is called to the site of a haunting crime scene. Six beautiful young girls—all in white dresses and arranged in a perfect circle—have been left for dead. Only one girl, fighting for her life at a nearby hospital, has survived the carnage. Things get stranger still when Victoria and the police discover that the disturbing arrangement of the bodies—as meticulous as it is mysterious—is straight from the pages of a decades-old cold case. Victoria is called on to do what she does best, read the bones of the dead for clues…while dealing with the surprise return of her first love, medical examiner Seth Rutledge. Only this time she must figure out how the two cases, fifty years apart, are connected.

REVIEW:
The death of five girls in a remote part of the Portland wilderness leaves the police & the forensic teams scratching there heads. There is no signs of trauma, no signs of them being forced, but there has to be fail play involved. How do six girls all dressed in white end up out in the woods dead or near death. As investigators converge on the sight one realized something very disturbing. He has seen this before, along time ago a very similar crime happened. And three of those deaths never were solved. Are these two crimes related? Is it the same killer? Is it a copycat? And will trying to find the link be too little too late to save the killer’s late

Is there anything scarier than the mind of a suspense author? I think not. Kendra Elliot’s Alone is a twisted mess of past, present and a possible uncertain future. While reading Alone you have a good idea of who the killer might be but Kendra throws some twists and turns in there to make you question whether you are right or wrong. I did enjoy this book, but I would liked the confrontation to be a little more involved. It was over a little too quick for me. But other than that I enjoyed this book. And I am looking forward to what Kendra has for us next.

Blog Tour & Spotlight: Murder Strikes A Pose by Tracy Weber

great escape tour banner large MURDER STRIKES A POSE640

Today I have Tracy Weber here today to discuss her debut book, Murder Strikes a Pose.

What’s That Pose on the Cover?

I can’t take any credit for it, but I’ve fallen in love with the cover of Murder Strikes a Pose, my first cozy mystery. The Seattle landmarks highlight the lovely city the story is set in.  The bright colors hint at the humor and lightness I’ve tried to pepper throughout the novel, in spite of its sometimes serious themes. The cartoon characters’ expressions capture the love Kate (my protagonist) and Bella (her dog) feel for each other.  Even better, the yoga pose on the cover is part of the series’ name: The Downward Dog Mysteries.

You don’t have to practice yoga to enjoy my books, but in case any of your readers are tempted to give it a try.  I thought I’d share some information about this popular yoga pose.

downdog

Downward Facing Dog is a favorite pose of yoga students everywhere.  Even Bella likes it, much better than she likes its evil counterpart, Cat Pose! Downward Dog strengthens the shoulders while stretching the backs of the legs, but those are only its secondary effects.  In Viniyoga (the style of yoga Kate teaches) Downward Dog is categorized as an extension pose, meaning that its primary intention is to lengthen the spine.  That amazing stretch Kate feels in her calves and hamstrings is just a side benefit.

My book cover’s static depiction of Downward Dog is only part of the posture.  In Viniyoga, moving in and out of the pose is as important as staying in it.  Movement contracts the muscles that will eventually be stretched, making them more like warm plastic and less like rubber bands. Wester physiologists call this action Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, or PNF.  (Though somehow I doubt that’s what the ancient yogis called it.)

Instructions for Down-Dogging it the Murder Strikes a Pose Way

1. Come to your hands and knees, with your knees about four inches apart.  Place your hips directly above your knees and your hands slightly in front of and wider than your shoulders.

2. On inhale, lengthen your spine and tuck your toes.

3. On exhale, press down through your hands and feet, lifting your hips to the sky. Keep your knees bent and your chin slightly tucked.  Focus on feeling length between the crown of your head and your tailbone.

4. On the following inhale, lower your knees to the mat again.  Bring your hips directly above your knees and lengthen your spine.

5.  Move in and out of this position eight times, wrapping each movement in each breath.

6. After the eighth repetition, remain in Downward Dog for several breaths and enjoy the stretch!

Hints:

  • Keep your chin slightly tucked and your low back extended.
  • Don’t worry about how you look! Feel free to soften your knees. Focus on lengthening your body from your head to your tailbone.
  • To minimize wrist strain, spread your fingers and press your weight equally out through your fingertips.
  • Avoid pressing your chest too closely to your thighs.  This can hyperextend your shoulders, which adds significant strain to your shoulder joints.

Happy down dogging, everyone! Please check out Murder Strikes a Pose, and let me know what you think of the cover.  Even more importantly, let me know how you like the story inside of it! I hope you love reading it as much as I’ve loved writing it.

Namaste

Joanie has to decide whether to follow where her free-spirit leads… or hold on to the sweetest thing she’s ever known

REVIEW:
Joanie Bigbee is a woman who has never made any kind of commitments. Not to her family, not to her job and most definitely not to a man. Except for one problem. Nick Dalton. Nick is back in town and really throwing a wrench in Joanie’s armor.

Nick Dalton has come back to town to open a new branch of his business so that he has a reason to come visit his newly found brother. But Nick’s reason for staying might have just changed do to a very sexy pair of pink go-go boots.

This was a sweet book. I really enjoyed Joanie and Nick’s journey. Although there were times that I really wished that Joanie would either put her big girl pants on and grow up or that Nick would wisen up. But all in all I loved these two. I do need to go back and read book one in this series Cody & Lee Ann seem like a really awesome couple. I can’t wait to see what Kim has in store for us next in this series.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

All Mitch knows is that Halina broke his heart and disappeared. But new information has surfaced implicating her as a player in the deadliest game of Mitch’s life. This time, he’s not letting go without answers. Now terror, danger and heat will fuse them together or shatter the future.

REVIEW:
Mitch, Mitch, Mitch. I think it is safe to say that we have all come to love Alyssa’s smart ass brother Mitch. He has definitely keep things fun and exciting over the course of the Phoenix Rising series. In Shatter Mitch finally meets his match. Well re-meets. Halina is a woman from the past, a past that Mitch wished that he could forget but never will. While Halina may hold the answers to helping the team with their future, she also is the only one that can help Mitch let go of the past. But working together not only makes Mitch realize that he is not over this woman. He realized that he never will be. And that makes the choices that need to be made just that much more difficult.

I love the Phoenix Rising series. And Mitch’s book is just great. I love that Mitch is such a smart a$$. I loved that Halina gets the best of him a time or two. I mean really nothing says I love you like a gun in your face or getting your butt kicked by the girl you love right???
If you have enjoyed the first 4 books in the Phoenix Rising story you will love Mitch’s book!! If you have not started the series you really need to start with book one. This series follows a timeline and while you might be able to read Shatter. You would be a little lost with the references from the past.

Winter Romance Wednesday! Kelly reviews A Fool’s Gold Christmas by Susan Mallery

Fools Gold ChristmasTITLE: A Fool’s Gold Christmas
SERIES #: Fool’s Gold #9.5
CHARACTERS: Dante Jefferson & Evie Stryker
AUTHOR: Susan Mallery
PUBLICATION DATE: September 25, 2012
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The unrelenting cheer in Fool’s Gold, California, is bringing out the humbug in dancer Evie Stryker. She learned early on that Christmas miracles don’t happen, at least not for her. And this year seems like no exception. An injury has forced her to return to the family fold, no matter that they’re estranged. She won’t add to the awkward scenario by being seduced by the bad-boy charms of her brother’s best friend, the last man she should ever want to date. Even when she’s recruited to stage Fool’s Gold’s winter festival, she vows to do as promised, then move forward with her life anywhere but here.

Jaded lawyer Dante Jefferson is getting used to the backwater town he now reluctantly calls home, but the pounding of little dancers’ feet above his temporary office is more than any man should have to take! When he confronts their gorgeous teacher, he’s unprepared for the attraction that sears him down to the soul. Evie is his best friend’s sister-off-limits unless he’s willing to risk his heart. Dante has always believed that love is the most dangerous force in the universe, but that was before he had to reckon with the magic of a certain small town, where miracles do seem to happen….

REVIEW:
Dante has been forced to move to the little town of Fool’s Gold because his business partner has decided that this is where he needs to be. That doesn’t mean he is happy about it or about the dance studio that is clogging away above his head. But Dante is planning on putting a stop to the noise once and for all. That is until he sees who the dance teachers is.

Evie is back in Fool’s Gold. Not because she wants to, but because her family dragged her back. But now that she is back she is going to make the best of her time. As long as she can steer clear of her mother & brothers. Steering clear of her brothers business partner is not going to be as easy.

Dante & Evie are both dealing with so much pain from the past. Pain that is making them blind to everything that they could to each other. But can the christmas season bring these two together or will they be left hurting even more?

Another good story from Susan Mallery. I really enjoy every trip that I take to Fool’s Gold and can’t wait to see what Susan has in store next for the people of Fool’s Gold.

Winter Romance Review! Kelly review Christmas On Main Street by Ross, Donovan, McLane, & Morgan

Christmas on Main StTITLE: Christmas on Main Street
AUTHOR: Ross, Donovan, McLane, & Morgan
PUBLICATION DATE: November 5, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
‘Tis the season to fall in love in these four small towns.

In “Christmas in Shelter Bay,” New York Times bestselling author JoAnn Ross returns to Shelter Bay, where Kelli has long tried to keep her feelings for her friend Cole a secret. But when the local matchmakers conspire to send them to a secluded lakeside cabin, the two friends soon discover that a little love will keep them warm.

TV producer Nathaniel Ravelle knows the Bayberry Island mermaid legend is a joke— how could a statue grant a wish for true love? But when a Christmas Nor’easter lands him in close quarters with local Annie Parker, they see magic at work in matters of the heart in New York Timesbestselling author Susan Donovan’s “A Seaside Christmas.”

In LuAnn McLane’s “Mistletoe on Main Street,” Clint isn’t sure how to rekindle his romance with high school sweetheart Ava—until his father bows out of playing Santa at the annual Cricket Creek holiday parade and Clint gets the chance to make this Christmas one to remember.

And in Alexis Morgan’s “The Christmas Gift”, business is booming at Bridey Roke’s pastry shop. Everyone in town stops in to sample her holiday treats. But in her spare moments, she’s perfecting a special recipe to charm the handsome new neighbor—who has his own surprise gift for her come Christmas Eve!

REVIEW:
Christmas in Shelter Bay: This was a sweet little christmas story of a love that has been growing since before they even understood what true love was. Cole & Kelli have been friends since childhood. While Kelli has always know that Cole was the one for her it has taken Cole just a tad bit longer to realize that his life will never be complete without Kelli.
Adding a meddling family and you have a really fun story.

A Seaside Christmas: I didn’t connect with this story. It was an interesting twist on a christmas story, but was not for me.

Mistletoe on Main Street: This was a good story. Clint & Ava were childhood sweethearts but life and the chance for the major leagues took him away. But while 15 years have past neither of them have forgot the love they shared. But it might take a christmas miracle to get Ava to open her heart up to him again.

The Christmas Gift: This was my favorite story in this anthology. I just loved Seth & Bridey they are so sweet together. I loved that these two were so perfect to each other.

Winter Romance Review! Kelly and Kimberly review A Vampire’s Christmas Carol by Cynthia Eden

Vampire Christmas CarolTITLE: A Vampire’s Christmas Carol
CHARACTERS: Ben Prescott & Simone Laurent
AUTHOR: Cynthia Eden
PUBLICATION DATE: November 11, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
This holiday season has bite.

Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season. While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows. Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.

But fate has other plans for Ben.

Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.

‘Tis the season…to be undead.

Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent. If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone. A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…

Warning: This book features one very tortured vampire, a sexy ghost from his past, and hot scenes designed to melt the winter snow. Plenty of action, adult situations, and steamy times are ahead. Happy holidays!

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS One night 3 visitors and one chance to change his life forever, but will he take it? Or will he forever be in the darkness.

This was a quick novella. I liked the twist the Cynthia put on a classic Christmas story. And since we all know the story and this is a novella I won’t give you to much. Except that Simone is willing to do anything to save the vampire that she loves. But will Ben be able to do what is need in order to save Simone a second time? Guess you need to pick up a copy of A Vampire’s Christmas carol and find out.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS This is a short novella of only about 60 pages but it is complete and very interesting. Obviously I won’t say much because the story is so short I do not want to give anything away but I found myself engrossed in the short read. The characters are interesting and the backstory is really thorough. Great holiday read if you enjoy the paranormal genre.
