BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Josslyn found perfection once, and she knows she’ll never find it again. Now widowed, she seeks the one thing her beloved husband couldn’t give her. Dominance. Lonely and searching for an outlet for her grief and wanting only a brief taste of the perfection she once enjoyed, she seeks what she’s looking for at an exclusive club that caters to people indulging in their most hedonistic fantasies. She never imagined that what she’d find is the one man who’s long been a source of comfort—and secret longing. Her husband’s best friend.

Dash has lived in an untenable position for years. In love with his best friend’s wife and unwilling to act on that attraction. He’d never betray his best friend. And so he’s waited in the wings, offering Joss unconditional support and comfort as she works past her grief, hoping for the day when he can offer her more.

When he finds her in a club devoted to the darker edges of desire, he’s furious because he thinks she has no idea what she’s getting herself into. Until she explains in detail what it is she wants. What she needs. As realization sets in, he is gripped by fierce, unwavering determination. If she wants dominance, he is the only man who will introduce her to that world. He is the only man who will touch her, cherish her…love her. And the only man she’ll ever submit to.

REVIEW:
Letting Go is Maya’s first book in the Surrender Trilogy and it was a great start to this trilogy. In Letting Go we meet a small group of friends that are all trying to learn to live again. Some are dealing with their demons from the past. Some are dealing with their insecurities of the present. And then there is Joss who is trying to figure out how to live again after the death of her husband.

Joss finally after 3 years of mourning is finally ready to say goodbye and move on with her life and try file the a void that has always been there. But a trip to The House does not go according to plan. Not only does Joss not get what she wants Dash her husband’s best friend is there and whisks her away from what she wants. But just when Joss thinks she will have to work up the courage to walk into the club again Dash throw her for a loop and tells her he will be what she wants, what she needs, what she craves.
The only question is can these two learn to trust each other fully? Or will the ghosts from the past drive them apart.

I totally love Dash. His is so sweet yet at times a total ass. A total ass that is so in love with this woman that he is blind to the things he does and says. Joss knows what she wants, well kind of, and she is willing to do anything it takes to get that.
I really liked this story. Yes there were parts and pieces that were erotic and touches of the BDSM but for the most part I felt like I was reading a great love story. I thank Maya for writing this story. And I am looking forward to Kylie’s story and have high hopes for Chassy & Tate’s book.

If you are a Maya Banks fan I think that you will love this book.

Kelly reviews Mark Of The Demon by Diana Rowland

Mark Of DemonTITLE: Mark of the Demon
SERIES #: Kara Gillian #1
CHARACTERS: Kara Gillian, Ryan Kristoff & Rhyzkahl
AUTHOR: Diana Rowland
NARRATOR: Liv Anderson
PUBLICATION DATE: June 23, 2009
AUDIBLE PUB DATE: June 7, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Cop and conjurer of demons, she’s a woman in danger of losing control – to a power that could kill….

“Why me? Why now?” That’s what Beaulac, Louisiana, detective Kara Gillian was asking herself when an angelic creature named Rhyzkahl unexpectedly appeared during a routine summoning. Kara was hoping to use her occult skills to catch a serial killer, but never had she conjured anything like this unearthly beautiful and unspeakably powerful being whose very touch set off exquisite new dimensions of pleasure. But can she enlist his aid in helping her stop a killer who’s already claimed the lives – and souls – of 13 people? And should she?

The Symbol Man is a nightmare that the city thought had ended three years ago. Now he’s back for an encore and leaving every indication on the flesh of his victims that he, too, is well versed in demonic lore. Kara may be the only cop on Beaulac’s small force able to stop the killer, but it is her first homicide case. Yet with Rhyzkahl haunting her dreams, and a handsome yet disapproving FBI agent dogging her waking footsteps, she may be in way over her head.

REVIEW:
This book took me a little bit to get into. I am not sure what I was expecting but after listening to Diana’s White Trash Zombie I guess I expected a little more snark and humor. But Kara is very different then Angel. As the story when on I started to like Kara. I started enjoying her view on the world and how a summoner sees things. I honestly took me until the end of the book to decided if I like the Demon Lord and the FBI agent in Kara’s life. Let’s say that I really like one when we first met him, then I hated him, then I kinda liked him. The other I didn’t like at all until the end of the book. You will have to read/listen to and see if you can figure out which is which.

The narrator was not my most favorite but she did a pretty good job. I will say that Rhyzkahl’s voice was a little creepy, but he is a Demon Lord. So I guess that is okay.

Even though this was a slow start for me I am very much looking forward to Kara, Ryan & Rhyzkahl’s next adventure.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: A Tale of Two Biddies by Kylie Logan

When it comes to solving mysteries, these ladies are in a league of their own…

Summer can be the best of times or the worst of times for the resort town of Put-in-Bay on Lake Erie. For Bea Cartwright, business is booming as guests storm her B and B for the Bastille Day celebration. In honor of the holiday, the League of Literary Ladies is reading the Charles Dickens’ classic, A Tale of Two Cities. It would be hard to make a more apropos selection—especially when they have their very own Defarge sisters, elderly twins Margaret and Alice, who run the local knitting shop.

On Bastille Day, the head-banging rock band Guillotine shows their chops for the tourists—but the celebration is soon cut short. With something needling the Defarge dowagers and secrets that lead to murder, solving this mystery will be a far, far better thing than the Literary Ladies have done before. They’ll just have to make sure to keep their heads while they try to stop a killer’s reign of terror…

About the Author:

Casey for MarconKylie Logan has loved mysteries since she was a kid. Her dad was a Cleveland Police detective and he introduced her to Sherlock Holmes stories and gave her investigating experience when on his days off, they’d pile into the car and hit the streets to look for stolen cars.  When he retired from the force, Dad became head of security for the Cleveland Public Library.

Crooks and books! Kylie comes by her love of mysteries honestly.

Kylie began her career writing historical romance and her book, “Devil’s Diamond,” was nominated for a RITA award as historical romance of the year by Romance Writers of America.  She’s also written contemporary romance (as Connie Lane), young adult horror (as Zoe Daniels and Connie Laux) and she writes the popular Pepper Martin mysteries as Casey Daniels.

Kylie is currently writing three different mystery series: the Button Box mysteries (newest book is “Panic Button”), the League of Literary Ladies mysteries (“Mayhem at the Orient Express”) and now, the Chili Cook-Off mysteries.  She can’t pass up an antique shop…there might be buttons in there!  She can’t put down a classic book . . . even if she already knows the story.  And she can’t say no to a good bowl of chili.  Luckily, her husband is the world’s greatest chili maker.

When she’s not writing, she’s usually with her family and their two dogs, Ernie, an adorable Airedale, and Oscar, a rescued Jack Russell who came for a short-term stay and ten years later, is still around. Kylie says that those of you who have ever met/lived with/had dealings with a Russell will certainly understand how knowing him has increased her propensity for murder.

Jennifer’s Review of A Tale of Two Biddies

Review (4.5 Stars): When I first read Ms. Logan’s Mayhem at the Orient Express, I got sucked into the story and absolutely loved the characters of this series.  A Tale of Two Biddies is the second book in this series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one.  Bea Cartwright and the League of Literary Ladies are in the middle of reading A Tale of Two Cities during the Bastille Day celebration when they become embroiled in yet another murder mystery. This time, it’s the murder of the town’s unpopular handyman and there is no short supply of potential suspects.  The ladies have to hurry to solve this one before someone else falls victim to this killer.

This is such a great series with delightful characters, snappy dialogue and a well-written mystery that will keep you reading late until the night.  I am so glad that I found this series and I will definitely be a fan for many years to come.  I have enjoyed everything that Ms. Logan has written but this has to be my favorite of her series so far.  Can’t wait to read her next book in the series because The League of Literary Ladies is a sheer delight to read.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Passage of Crime by R. Michael Phillips

passage of crime 640

Passage_Cover_R1

London’s East End, once known for poor boroughs and a derelict rail yard, is enjoying an optimistic resurgence. It’s becoming an affordable option for middle class residents looking to have their pounds go further. Despite this sweeping out of old rubbish, a cautious step is still advised when passing by a few remaining dark alleys. If only Mary Walsh had listened.

Prophet Brown, a disfigured, pathetic little man, called Detective Inspector Flannel after stumbling upon the body of a young woman in one such alley. Flannel quickly realizes she is not the random victim she appears. Add to that, the crime scene is hauntingly reminiscent of an old unsolved case; a case that almost ended an otherwise brilliant career eight years ago.

For the moment, Prophet Brown is the only solid link between the two cases. He has been in the employ of a charismatic and well-connected Member of Parliament for 17 years–the very man Flannel unsuccessfully accused of the murders in the previous case.

Flannel finds himself navigating a very treacherous course. His superiors have warned him for the last time to tread cautiously around the MP, and the rising tide of the past threatens to pull him under. Reluctantly, Inspector Flannel turns to a most unlikely ally, a reformed pickpocket named Ernie Bisquets. Together they disentangle a mesh of old lies and current clues attempting to bring a ruthless murderer to justice–ignoring the dangerous notion of murder being a carefully disguised trait passed from one generation to the next.

Jennifer’s Review of Passage of Crime

Review (4 stars): I’ll admit I had a hard time getting into this book because I haven’t read the first two books in the series. Once I got acquainted with the characters, I got involved in the mystery and enjoyed this well-written novel.  In this story, Inspector Flannel is investigating murders that are reminiscent of Jack the Ripper and brings him face-to-face with someone from his past that almost destroyed his career. Before he knows it, Inspector Flannel teams up with reformed pickpocket Ernie Bisquets to piece together the clues to find the murderer.  I liked how there were so many different layers to this mystery and you couldn’t believe everything that you saw.  I was never quite sure who to trust and I liked that because I usually can figure out who did it before the main character does.  Very interesting series and I look forward to going back and reading the first two to learn more about these characters.

Kelly reviews Wulfe Untamed by Pamela Palmer

Wulfe UntamedTITLE: Wulfe Untamed
SERIES #: Feral Warrior #8
CHARACTERS: Wulfe & Natalie Cash
AUTHOR: Pamela Palmer
PUBLICATION DATE: January 28, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release…

The most enigmatic and tortured of the Feral Warriors, Wulfe is haunted by the quiet beauty of a human woman who no longer remembers him. Once a captive of both the Mage and the Ferals, Natalie stole a piece of his heart before he took her memories and sent her safely back to her fiancé. But now the Mage are threatening her again, and Wulfe will risk anything to protect her.

Natalie Cash is stunned when she’s saved by a wolf who shifts suddenly into a splendidly built, if badly scarred, man, a man with the kindest eyes. Swept into a world of intrigue and danger beyond her comprehension, she turns to the powerful Wulfe, finding a passion she’d only dreamed of. But when time runs out, they must trust one another and surrender to a wild, untamed love

REVIEW:
Wulfe & Natalie have a very sweet love story, even if it is filled with evil at every turn. Wulfe has been hurting since the death of his mate, but not in the way that most would think. But Natalie stirs something that he can’t quite figure out. When he finally realizes what he is feeling he tries to push her away, but Natalie is not having any of that. These two have to face a lot of issues between them and learn to lean on each other in the face of evil.

As I started to read Wulfe Untamed I realized that I have missed a few books in Pamela Palmers Feral Warrior’s series. While this didn’t take away from the story it just makes me want to go back and read the whole series again from book 1. Pamela has announced that his is the final book in the Feral Warriors series but I will say that I am holding out hope that she will write Grizz & Vhypers story. Maybe a spin off? Because both Grizz & Vhyper need to find their HEA

Jennifer’s Review of Trapped By Revenge

Review (4 Stars):  I haven’t read the first few books in this series so it took me a little while to get acquainted with the characters but once I did, the story just flew by.  I enjoyed Shelby’s character, who keeps finding herself involved in mysteries because she has the ability to read minds after she suffered a head injury a few years back. In Trapped By Revenge, Shelby runs another “errand” for mob boss Uncle Joey and discovers the body of a private investigator that she was supposed to listen to his thoughts for Uncle Joey.  Shelby must help solve the case before she becomes the prime suspect in this murder.

The humor in this book made this mystery very entertaining and fun to read. I loved the secondary characters which added to this mystery and made this an enjoyable read.  I’m going to go back and read the series from the beginning to get properly introduced to these characters and I can’t wait to read more of Shelby’s misadventures.

REVIEW:
I am really sad this series is coming to an end. But like all good things it can’t go on forever. Cat & Bones have been a huge part of my love for all things paranormal. These two have had a rollercoaster ride of the years and I am grateful that I grab the very first book in this series. There will be no spoilers at all in this review. No summary of this book in this review. This is just my love of this series and for Ms. Frost. While I was surprised by a few things in this book I am so happy that Cat & Bones finally might have some down time and a chance to enjoy their life together.

I really hope that Ms. Frost will revisit these two in the future. I really can’t wait to see what the future holds. Fans of Cat & Bones will really enjoy this story.

Book Spotlight & Interview: Mystic Cowboy by Sarah M. Anderson

MysticCowboy72web

Today, I am excited to have Sarah here to talk about her new book, Mystic Cowboy.  Have you seen the cover?  All I have to say is that is Rebel is one hot, sexy man and I loved this book.

1. Tell me about your new release.

Mystic Cowboy is a new/old release. It’s been out in ebook for a while, but it’s out in print now and I’m so excited–the cover is even hotter in print than it was on the computer screen!

Mystic Cowboy is about a doctor named Madeline Mitchell who moves out to run a clinic on the White Sandy Lakota Indian reservation.  Once she gets there, she discovers the medicine man, Rebel Runs Fast, is seemingly out to foil her every move.  But before long, things begin to heat up–especially once they go skinny dipping!

2. Where did you come up with the idea for Mystic Cowboy?

It really did come down to an opposites attract situation.  I wanted people who were both trying to make the world a better place and take care of people, but they went about it in totally different ways that placed them in opposition at every turn. Rebel sends people to sweat lodges and Madeline sends them to clinical trials.  In many of the situations, there’s no one right answer–until they have to work together to solve a medical crisis.

Rebel’s name was inspired by a minor-league baseball game I went to.  Small-ball players often have a lot of fun and don’t take themselves too seriously. That night, every single player was introduced with some corny name–Cadillac, McScoochy–and their player headshot featured the same hilariously oversized pair of Elvis sunglasses.  One player had gone with the name Rebel and I thought, man–that’s a great character name! When I thought of the character of a medicine man who never does what people expect, the name was a perfect fit!

3. Do you have any influence on the models for your covers?

I do! Samhain is really wonderful about working with authors to make the cover just right.  I’ll be honest, the first cover looked a bit like Slash, the guitar player for Guns n’ Roses–remember him?–doing a Chippendales  strip tease.  This model was featured on the cover of Cynful by Dana Marie Bell and I said to my editor, why can’t we get a model like him?  And she went and got him. His image is a stock photo, so this exact picture has popped up on…four? Five? I’ve lost count–but a bunch of different romances.

4. Which authors do you feel have been a big influence on you becoming a writer?

I didn’t come from a family of romance readers, believe it or not.  I read Scott O’Dell and Judy Blume, then Stephen King and Dave Barry before I moved onto Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.  I got to the romance eventually! Basically, I just read a lot, across genres and devoured good books.

5. What are you working on now?

I’ve just started The Beaumonts #3,  A Beaumont Christmas Wedding.  It’ll be out in November 2014 from Harlequin Desire.  It’s a new series that kicks off in September 2014 and it’s about a family that owns a huge brewery in Denver, Colorado.  I’m really enjoying it!

Lightning Round:

1. Favorite Food?

Chocolate.  In every form except chocolate-covered espresso beans–I don’t like coffee!

2. TV Guilty Pleasure?

Magnum P.I. I looooove the mustache!!!

3. Most interesting thing that you had to research for a book?

Ohhhh–there are so many weird things–um–I do tend to wander around real estate but I’m also fascinated with historical things, like when modern underwear was invented or how tampons were marketed back in the 1930s.

Oh! I know! For my upcoming May book, Nobody (Men of the White Sandy #3), I had to research interiors to Airstream trailers and you know what? Airstream has the floor plan for every single trailer they’ve ever made digitized and online.  I wandered around there for hours!  You just never know when you’re going to fall down a research hole!

4. Favorite Candy?

You mean, besides chocolate?  Jelly beans or Gummi bears–something light and sweet and perfect for summer (that doesn’t melt all over your hands when it’s hot!)

About the Author:

SarahMAndersonhiresAward-winning author Sarah M. Anderson may live east of the Mississippi River, but her heart lies out west on the Great Plains.  With a lifelong love of horses and two history teachers for parents, it wasn’t long before her characters found themselves out in South Dakota among the Lakota Sioux.  She loves to put people from two different worlds into new situations and to see how their backgrounds and cultures take them someplace they never thought they’d go.

When not helping out at school or walking her rescue dogs, Sarah spends her days having conversations with imaginary cowboys and American Indians, all of which is surprisingly well-tolerated by her wonderful husband and son.  You can learn more about Sarah at www.sarahmanderson.com

mysticcowboy

The White Sandy Reservation needs a doctor, and Madeline Mitchell needs to do a little good in the world. It seems like a perfect fit, until she meets the medicine man, Rebel Runs Fast. As far as Madeline can tell, Rebel’s sole mission is to convince her patients that modern medicine can’t help them.  And the fact that he makes her heart race every time he looks at her only irritates her more.

Rebel swore off the white man’s world–and women–years ago. But he’s never met a woman like Dr. Mitchell. She doesn’t speak the language, understand the customs, or believe he’s anything more than a charlatan–but she stays, determined to help his people. He tries to convince himself that his tribe doesn’t need her, but when patients start getting sick with strange symptoms, he realizes that he needs her more than ever.

Amazon/B&N

Jennifer’s Review of Mystic Cowboy

Review (4.5 Stars):  I loved Rebel and Madeline so much that I want a Rebel of my own!  Madeline moves to the White Sandy Reservation to operate their medical clinic, a clinic where previous doctors stayed less than five months.  Madeline is smart, sassy and ends up verbally sparing with Rebel every time that he enters her clinic.  Rebel is considered a medicine man by his community and is leery of the new doctor on the reservation.  But both of them can’t help but be attracted to one another and sparks fly when they finally get together.

I love the cover of Mystic Cowboy and I was drawn into the story within the first few pages.  Rebel was such an interesting character for me.  Handsome, sexy, artistic and he had given up on women before Madeline entered his life.  He took care of so many people in his community, both financially and spiritually, which makes him a hero in my eyes.  He deserved someone like Madeline who could finally be someone he could count on and wouldn’t see him as the poor man to feel sorry for because he lived on the reservation.

Mystic Cowboy was a hot, steamy romance that kept me up late into the night.  Loved Rebel and Madeline’s story and Ms. Anderson has created characters that you can fall in love with. Looking forward to reading Masked Cowboy which will be out in print later this year.

PUBLICATION DATE: December 4, 2013

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Forensic investigator Lacey Campbell is trying to relax. She and her fiancé have escaped to a high-end resort on the Oregon Coast that they’re scoping out for their wedding venue. But when a murdered woman turns up in the hot tub, there’s no more relaxing for the couple. Neither can resist getting pulled into the case.

Tragically, the dead woman is dressed in a wedding gown, even more disturbing for Lacey given she’s about to be a bride. When the victim turns out to be a beloved bartender with a bad-news ex-husband, it looks like a domestic quarrel turned deadly. But could there be something more sinister going on in this tight-knit community?

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Another great story from Kendra. It was fun to see Jack & Lacey again even if it is not under the best of circumstances. Because really nothing can ruin a vacation like finding a dead body and be through head first in a murder investigation.

I am not going to give you more than that. This is a novella and I don’t want to give too much away. This novella can easily be read as a stand alone, although if you have not read book 1 you might want to read it. Jack & Lacey are from book 1 Hidden.

Jennifer’s Review of Playing with Fire

Review (4.5 Stars): One of the things that I love about Stella is her sheer determination and drive to be the best fire chief that she can be for Sweet Pepper.  She only planned to stay there a few months to help get the volunteer fire brigade set up, but circumstances have kept her longer than originally planned.  She is just an awesome character that rides a Harley, lives in a haunted cabin and is not afraid of anything or anyone.

In Playing with Fire, Stella has been thinking about going home but more evidence has surfaced regarding the death of Fire Chief, Eric Gamlyn.  Eric is currently haunting Stella’s cabin and she is the only one that can communicate with him.  When Deputy Chum gives her key information about the night Eric died and is soon murdered himself, Stella is compelled to help discover the truth. Only now, her family has arrived in Sweet Pepper to encourage her to come home and leave Sweet Pepper for good.

Playing with Fire is the second book in the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mystery series and this series keep getting better and better.  J.J. Cook has created a delightful series that I have to say is one of my favorites.  This book ends on a cliffhanger which caught me off-guard but I can’t wait for the next book to spend more time with Stella and the crew of Sweet Pepper.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Three lifelong friends find themselves tangled in a web of love, pain and dangerous secrets in this erotic Garden of Eden tale.

Tall, dark and handsome Danny Carlow has always gotten whatever he wants except for the two he wants more than anything-his best friends, lovers Paul and Eve. Determined, he waits like a snake in the grass, poised for the right moment to offer them a temptation too delicious to resist.

Artist Eve Everton makes the painful decision to leave her true love Paul for the siren call of New York City. Ten years later, with her life in shambles, she returns. When Paul’s waiting arms aren’t available, Eve falls for Danny’s charm and finds herself a willing accomplice in the dangerous games Danny plays.

Former college football star Paul Mattling is now a successful attorney with a bright future ahead of him. But behind those brilliant blue eyes are secret desires for a taste of the forbidden. Will he play it safe or give in to Danny and Eve and bite the apple?

Reader Advisory: Not for the faint of heart, the pain in this story is vivid and real, the emotions even more so. Haunting and poignant, Beyond Eden presents a darker side of BDSM. You might gasp. You might cry. You might find yourself reading it again and again.

REVIEW:
Wow.. umm… well… ok… This is definitely erotica. There is no doubt about that. 90% of this book is sex and most of it hard core in some way or another. As the reader advisory above says there is a lot of pain in this story and it is physical as well as emotional. This is not your sweet BDSM story (if there is such a thing). This is very intense and borders on cruel except it is what the sub wants.

I gave this book 4 stars because I decided to do something that is rare for me. I decided to not compare it in a general scope (ie: historicals, contemporary, paranormal and erotica) but solely on erotica. The reason I did that is because this book, in my humble opinion, can not really be classified as a romance. Yes there is love but there is certainly no romance in this story. So I compared it to other erotica that I have read and it is very well written for the genre and should be given the credit for that. If this is the type of story you like, once again as said above, you will want to read this again and again. If you are into erotica romance than I would warn you this might be too much.
