(ARC) Follow the Night by Michele Hauf

Vicomte Gabriel Renan was just trying to dispose of his ill-gotten fortune when the mysterious stranger attacked him. Now he’s been told he may become vampire if he cannot make it to the full moon without drinking blood. Easy enough. Or will the madness that threatens lure Gabriel to follow the night?
Too many secrets Roxane Desrues holds to her breast. She only wishes to rescue her brother, but is distracted by the handsome vicomte, and the reality that he may become her greatest enemy should he transform to vampire.
Together they will learn what they can to overcome—but ultimately, they have only one another to trust in the battle between good and evil.

My thoughts:
Gabriel (aka Leo) is a man hiding from his past.  A past filled with pain and disappointment.  But never again, Gabriel had built up walls around him and doesn’t let anyone close to him, EVER.  Until the night he is attacked.  Then everything changes.
Roxane only is worried about one thing, saving her brother.  She must hunt the monster that changed her brother and kill him.  Even if that means she has to use someone else as bait.
After being attacked Gabriel wakes to find the very delicious Roxane watching over him.  She is offering to help him fight off the effects of the attack, but is she everything she says she is or is Roxane hiding her own secrets as to why she is here.
I have to say that I have not read many historical paranormal romances, but really did enjoy this story.  It was really fun to watch these two characters struggle with lust, love and loyalty.  But in the end trust is the most important thing of all.
I have to say a huge THANK YOU to Michele Hauf for allowing me to read this story early.
Follow the Night will be released in July 2011. I don’t have a pre-order link yet. So please go to Michele Website for more information.

Sneak Peck at Teresa New up coming Release: Blood Moon Betrayed (Book 3 in the True Mates Series)
Caden’s heart pounded and her throat went dry. Clinton stood no more than ten feet from her. She fought the urge to whimper and slink back into the chair. She couldn’t run. With her injured knee, she wouldn’t get far if she tried. And she had no weapon. At least the last time she’d met up with Clint in a parking garage, she’d been standing on two good legs and without a head injury or even cracked ribs. Course she couldn’t say that was how things ended.
She cut a glance toward Sean, who put himself between her and her ex-husband. Thank, God. His broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted body made Clinton’s skinny self look more like a little boy than the cop he was. Maybe her ex had met his match.
God, she hoped so.
With a trembling hand, she pulled herself up on the truck and moved to climb inside.
“What have we here?” asked Clint. He doffed his hat, rubbed his head, and replaced the baseball cap, his eyes moving back and forth between her and Sean.
“Get in the truck, now.”
Caden obeyed Sean’s barked order and climbed into the truck, gritting her teeth against the pain in her damaged rib and injured leg.
“Now, don’t rush out on my account,” sneered Clint. “Besides, that’s my wife. I’ll be taking her home with me.”
As though the words were gasoline thrown on a fire, fury exploded from Sean, and he stepped closer, like a wild animal stalking its prey. “You’ll do no such thing.” As though realizing he was speaking for her, he turned toward Caden.
Her breath froze in her lungs when his piercing green eyes caught hers. For an instant, she wondered if he could see through to her soul. But that would be stupid. Nobody could do that.
“Do you want to go with him?”
She shook her head, forcing the breath to move in and out of her body.
“There you have it.” The deadly calm words belied the lethal threat she felt beneath the surface as he turned back to Clint. “She’s with me.”
Clint wasn’t stupid. Unless he was armed, he’d back off. He had to know he didn’t stand a chance against Sean’s feral strength. She’d never sensed such pent up violence in a man. Almost animalistic. She rubbed her arms. Energy skittered over her skin, and her skin tingled.
“Don’t listen to the bitch. I don’t care what she says about me, she lies.”
Sean sniffed. “Then it’s good I can smell lies.” He stepped toward Clint, who stumbled back. “And you reek with them.”
Savage menace rolled of the larger male, and with every step, he moved closer to Clinton, looming over him. Dominating him. Such command. Such fierceness. Such pent up power. Somehow, the silent control was more impressive than had he reached out a hand and closed off Clint’s throat.
Her ex-husband’s color faded.
“You will stay away from her,” Sean snarled. His face was now even with Clint’s, only inches apart. God, that shouldn’t be sexy, but in a way it was. Why Sean had decided to protect her, she didn’t know, and right now didn’t care. She’d never wanted men to fight over her, but there was something so primal in Sean’s every move, and it spoke to her on a very feminine level.
Sean pivoted, putting his back to the smaller man. As though Clinton was nothing. A small rabbit he allowed to live. With one large, calloused hand, he closed her door. A shadow moved behind him and Caden shouted, warning Sean, but it hadn’t mattered. In the blink of an eye Sean moved, his hand grabbing Clinton’s wrist as the other man swung, flesh crashing against flesh. Fingers gripped her ex-husband’s arm, and by the look on his face, it hurt.
“Do that again,” Sean snarled, “and you’ll lose this arm.” With a shove, he shoved the offending wrist away, knocking Clinton off balance, the man stumbling back several steps.
With smooth, unhurried steps Sean circled the front of the truck, and opened the driver’s door.
“You’ll regret this,” shouted Clint.
Sean only arched a brow toward the man, got in the truck, and slammed the door shut. With deliberate movements, he started the vehicle, put it into gear, and pulled out of the parking spot, leaving Clint, now red faced and furious, glaring behind them.

Day 4~~Dark Succesion By Teresa D’Amario #2 True Mate Series

Nora Hunt is the daughter of former pack leader Sean Hunt and niece to Kieran Hunt.  Emotionally and physically scarred after being held captive for weeks, she’s finally ready to move on with her life.  But when she meets Ryland, she discovers not only a world of darkness and pain, but discovers Ryland may not be any better than those who held her captive all those weeks.
When Ryland Keegan steps in as Alpha of his dead brother’s pack, he inherits a pack of savage rogue wolven, as well as a legacy of violence, lies and five women held captive within the pack’s confines.
But when Ryland’s pack members start dying one at a time, he must decide if Nora is the catalyst or the killer.  Can he trust his True Mate? Or will he be relegated to a life of leading the dregs of Wolven society?

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed leanring more about Ryland, who we meet in SheWolf.  This was most diffenently a case of don’t stick with your first impression of someone.  Ryland turns out to have many demons to face and Nora may be the only thing to save him.

Nora, who we also meet in SheWolf has been through untold horrors in the last few months.  But she has survived.  But now can she survive the force that is Ryland?

These two have a great war of wits in this book.  But in the end I believe they both get what they want and need.

Day 3~~SheWolf by Teresa D’Amario #1 True Mate Series

A small town veterinarian has a big time problem. She’s not human.

Plagued as a child with an extra-sensitive sense of smell, strength, and eyesight, Anna Callaway always thought she was special. But she didn’t understand how special until she met Kieran Hunter.

He insists they are True Mates, but he’s not human either. He’s wolven.

Kieran is a protector of his race. No longer the Alpha of his pack, he spends his time searching out and punishing any who may reveal their race to humans. While patrolling, he finds two wolven about to kidnap Anna. He battles to protect her, but is surprised to find himself drawn to her in a way he never expected.

The couple must learn to deal with their differences before they can address their similarities. But when three men kidnap Anna, she must decide if she is to embrace the wolven way of life, or return to her quiet existence. And whether to abandon the man who claims her as his True Mate

My Thoughts:

I really really enjoyed this story. Kieran is 100%  male, except when it comes to Anna.  Then he questions everything he has ever thought.  Even the fact that they are True Mates.

Anna is strong, stubborn, and determined. Everything that is needed to bring Kieran to his knees.  Anna just doesn’t know how powerful she is.

The struggle that Anna & Kieran have to go through teachs them just how strong they are.  As each grow stronger they have to learn if they can be strong together or will pride get in the way.

Read Excerpt HERE

My Thoughts:

Hailey has a gift for making jewelry and she always knows who will purchase her work.  But when she makes a special gift for a friends mother it all goes terrible wrong.

Dmitri is looking for his brother Kel, who has gone missing.  And while looking for Kel, Dmitri wants answers from the person she made the key for his mother.

Can these two work together to solve the disappearance of Kel and find out why Hailey made this key.

I really enjoyed this short story. I like to watch Dmitri and Hailey fight their attraction to one another.  To watch them learn how to work together to answer both questions about Kel’s disappearance and  the reason for the key.

I do want to learn more about Kel.  I hope that Teresa will write Kel’s story.

The connection between Lance and Cassie is so strong that neither of them understands it, but both of them feel it.  Unable to stay away from each other, Lance and Cassie find them self on a roller coaster of emotions.  Both Cassie and Lance have secrets about themselves that they are afraid to share with the other, but it just may be those secrets that could very will save them both.  Drawn together only to be torn apart these two have so many twists and turns, ups and downs you begin to wonder if they will ever find one another.
This is the first book in the Maxey Wizard Series… I am looking forward to book 2

Feast: Harvest of Dreams by Merrie Destefano

Release date June 28th

Madeline MacFadden (“Mad Mac” to fans of her bestselling magical stories) spent blissful childhood summers in Ticonderoga Falls. And this is where she wants to be now that her adult life is falling apart. The dense surrounding forest holds many memories, some joyous, some tantalizingly only half-remembered. And she’s always believed there was something living in these wooded hills.

But Maddie doesn’t remember the dark parts — and knows nothing of the mountain legend that holds the area’s terrified residents captive. She has no recollection of Ash, the strange and magnificent creature who once saved her life as a child, even though it is the destiny of his kind to prey upon humanity. And soon it will be the Harvest. . . the time to feast.

Once again Maddie’s dreams –and her soul — are in grave danger. But magic runs deep during Harvest. Even a spinner of enchanted tales has wondrous powers of her own.

My Thoughts:
Dreams, it is what we do when we sleep… But have you ever wondered what happens when you can’t remember your dreams? Well the answer is here in Feast: Harvest of Dreams.
Oh Merrie has done it again.  She has my mind spinning.  Feast was a very interesting story.  Interesting in a very Wonderland meets Paranormal kind of way.  Merrie does a great job of setting up this world for us, a world of good and evil. I got really sucked into Ash’s world and his struggles to deal with who and what he has done and will continue to do.
There is a romance in this book, in fact there are two.  One is first love and one happens to be an old love revisited even if one can’t remember it.  For those who want to know. No, there is no sex in this book. Although I only realized that after I finished the book and sat down to write this review.  So therefore I didn’t feel that I was missing anything.  I did find the struggles that character go through wonderful.
I did speak with Merrie and there is a good chance that this story line will continue.  And I sure hope so there are so many questions I want answered, characters I want to revisit, and I want to know more about Ash.
If you are looking for a book a little out of the normal paranormal or fantasy genres I would highly recommend you join the Feast…….
