BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.
In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.
REVIEW:
I need to start with how much I love Darynda as an author. Her books are always funny. I really love Charley’s series. But 4th Grave is my least favorite book in the series so far. I still enjoyed this book very much, it just was not my favorite. Although I did love all the Reyes parts 🙂
Charley is just not the same after what happened to her in book 3 (and yes you really should read this series in order). I am looking forward to Charley healing and getting back on her game.
Reyes is still Reyes. We do get a little more insight into why Reyes is on earth and what he may or may not wants with Charley. And all the reasons might not be for the best. But I want to believe that deep down Reyes is good despite who is daddy might be.
Reyes and Charley are great together and it seems that they are finally getting to a good place (it’s about time you stubborn characters).
I am looking forward to what Darynda has next for us…
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy (from NetGalley) of the book in exchange for an honest review. The following review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
I also love Charley’s stories, but will disagree with favorites. Since finding Charley in book 2, I find each story more edgy, more fun, and more dangerous. Book 4 brings all the sarcasm, double meanings, and off -the -cuff grins that I have been screaming to read. She always leaves me wondering why it’s weird for her to speak to someone until you realize she’s talking to a dead person.
Oh, btw, thank you for new characters!
