Books-n-Kisses is super excited to have the WONDERFUL G.J. Koch on the blog today… We are going to be chatting about her newest adventure in to the world of Space Pirates…. So buckle up and hang one.. Oh and don’t roll down the windows!!!!!!!
Bnk: G.J., so excited to have you here. I have had your other personality on the blog a few times and she is always great. I am looking forward to learning more about you and what makes G.J. tick.
G.J.: I’m motivated by booze, chocolate, Coca-Cola, deadlines, the voices in my head, and the need for speed (going fast, not the drug, for any authorities who might be reading this). So, pretty much the same things my alter ego’s motivated by.
BnK: For those who don’t know your other persona can you please tell them who you are.
G.J.: I’m part of the mental collective that includes Gini Koch, she of the Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt series for DAW Books/Penguin. (Our mental collective also includes Anita Ensal, Jemma Chase, A.E. Stanton, and J.C. Koch, but that’s not important at this precise time.) (Of course, THEY think it’s important. And they’re whining. So check out what they write over at Musa Publishing http://musapublishing.com/ )
Of course, I’m the most important part of the mental collective, regardless of what anyone else tells you.
BnK: Tell us a little about G.J. Koch
G.J.: I write science fiction. Not the hard stuff, though. Because that requires actual scientific knowledge or at least actual scientific research. Knowledge may be power and research may be cool, but they take time away from writing jokes, action, and romance, and being witty in the face of death is what it’s really all about.
Bnk: How does G.J. differ from Gini?
G.J.: I’m taller and slightly better looking.
Oh, fine, fine. Well, in my mind when I’m writing, I actually see G.J. as Gini’s twin brother, who’s even crazier than she is. And yes, they’re in competition. (Isn’t it always the way?)
In terms of the books themselves, G.J.’s have more humor (it’s true!) and less visual sexy times.
BnK: How are G.J. and Gini the same?
G.J.: They both write SF/F, they both have skewed worldviews, they both have a lot of action and humor in their books, and they’re both funny.
And, sanity has reared its ugly head and is insisting I share the most obvious: They’re both me, myself and I. (There, sanity. Happy now? Good. Take off for a bit, will you?)
BnK: Okay let’s talk about books…. Tell me about Alexander Outland:
Space Pirate.
G.J.: Surely! In Alexander Outland: Space Pirate, trouble’s brewing out in space, and Alexander Outland — the least likely hero in the galaxy — and his eccentric crew have to save the day, despite the fact they’d prefer to take the money and run.
Alexander Napoleon Outland is the best pilot, and ladies’ man, in the galaxy. But Nap, as his friends call him, is more than that — he’s a schemer with a heart of gold he desperately wants to hide, a soft spot for other people’s cargo and his exotic weapon’s chief, and the unerring ability to find the biggest misfit on any planet or space station and somehow join that person onto his crew.
Nap’s not your classic hero, but that tends to make him the right guy for the job…whatever the job happens to be. He’s a little bit Han Solo, a little bit Malcolm Reynolds, a little bit Captain Jack Sparrow, and a whole lot of fun to fly with.
There are aliens, explosions, telepaths, donkeys, space pirates of all kinds, and a galaxy-wide conspiracy. And the most horrifying “underwater” trip any crew’s had to face in a long, long while. But mostly, there are laughs.
Bnk: I have to say thank you for the pleasure of reading this book early. I LOVED reading about Nap and his crazy crew…
G.J.: I’m so glad! Nap says that he knew an attractive, discerning lady such as yourself would appreciate his charms and exploits.
*Kelly blushes*
BnK: Does G.J. live spoiler free like Gini? If not, want to share a little spoiler?
G.J.: G.J. lives potentially MORE spoiler free than Gini. Sad, innit?
I can share teasers, though. If I could only think of some… Nope, coming up blank. Guess your readers will all just have to buy the book and find out all the spoilers in real time.
*Kelly shakes heads…..*
BnK: How did you come up with the idea for Alexander Outland?
G.J.: I ran across the name, actually. It was a cool, interesting name, and it immediately struck me as being a super cool name for a space pirate. An interesting, fun space pirate. I tried to figure out what he’d be like and what his world would be like, and the rest is, as they say, coming to a bookstore near you.
BnK: Will we see more of Nap, Slinky, and the rest of the Sixty-Nine crew? *fingers crossed*
G.J.: I sincerely hope so, and my digits are crossed, too! I have at least a trilogy mapped out and, seeing as it’s me, probably more. But that’s up to Night Shade. They’re making their determination in August sometime, so everyone needs to buy Alexander Outland: Space Pirate and hopefully that means we’ll see more of Nap and his crew sooner as opposed to later!
Bnk: G.J., thank you so much for your time. Always love having you on the blog!!!
G.J.: Thanks for having me, it’s always great to be here, under any and every name!
Check out G.J.’s rollicking Alexander Outland: Space Pirate series from Night Shade Books and reach G.J. at Space…the Funny Frontier (http://www.ginikoch.com/GJKbookstore.htm).
BnK: I have one copy of Alexander Outland Space Pirate up for grabs. This contest is open to everyone.. But my international followers if you win you will be getting an e-copy of the book. US I have a paper copy up for grabs. So to enter please fill out the Rafflecopter form below. Good Luck
Hi,
thanks you for this great giveaway. I absolutly adore Gini's books and i would like to discover this one too
My favorite pirate is jack sparrow
all the best
Oh, this sounds good! I haven't read Gini's books yet. I need to change that! Thanks for the giveaway!
Jack Sparrow is my favorite pirate but wasn't there an old 70's or 80's movie called Ice Pirates?
Thanks for a fabulous interview and giveaway! I'm a total Gini Fangrrrl. I love her Kitty Katt series and I'm definitely going to have to check out her newest titles 🙂
Jack Sparrow hands down!!!!!!!!
well, the only one I know is Jack Sparrow… thanks for the chance to win!
Jack Sparrow is my fav pirate.
So far my favorite pirate is a space pirate known as "Gammis Turek" from Elizabeth Moon's Vatta's War series. While it's not really a sci-fi romance series, I was able to enjoy the sci-fi sceries and it wasn't too technical so I could follow it. I also really like Gabriel Sullivan, who is somewhat of a space pirate, from Linnea Sinclair's Dock Five series. Alexander Outland Space Pirate sounds like a fun book to read. Thanks for the giveaway!
Jack Sparrow. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
Antonio enough said 🙂
Oh my favorite Pirate is Captain Jack Sparrow. I loved all of the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Looks like Jack Sparrow is everyone's choice. Maybe Alexander will replace him after we all read the book.
G.J. I love your stuff no matter what name you are hiding under. We sci-fi geekettes have to stick together.
My favorite pirate would have to be Blackbeard… the stories about him and his hidden treasures will keep people looking for that lost dream of riches for another couple of centuries. LOL
Good adventure with laughs is always good.
I like any good pirates story, there are many good in both history and existing fantasy so all have that mystery and danger that attracts.
Okay, you had me at Han Solo…the ultimate pirate. The cover is gorgeous. Very Star Wars, if you pardon the comparasion.
One question…did you ever watch Firefly with *sigh* Nathan Fillion?

HAhaha, G.J. this was one great interview. I love your sense of humor. And the fact that booze, chocolate, and Coke are your first three things listed that motivate.
Right now I would have to say my favorite pirate is Sebastian from Shana Galen's Rogue Pirates Bride. Yeah its a good old historical romance, but I fell in love with this pirate. So sexy.
Great name for yours, Alexander Outland.
Jack Sparrow of course! Johnny Depp was such a scream.
my favorite pirate at the moment (since I haven't read Alexander Outland) is Jack Sparrow. You just cannot beat Johnny Depp
Jack Sparrow
My favorite pirate is NOT Jack Sparrow, wow! hehe He's a space pirate, he's from Firefly, he's played by Nathan Fillion, and his name is Malcom Reynolds. Woot!
Another great interview GJ. thank you! It is so much fun to see the different questions and learn more.
NOT Jack Sparrow!!! Will Turner, I know he didn't start off as a pirate, but later he was 🙂

Thanks, Miki, I'm so glad you enjoy the books, and I'm sure the Outland will be right up your alley.
*sniffle* You…you haven't read my bookie wookies yet? *sobs, throws self on floor, brought back by Ice Pirates* YES! Ice Pirates starred Robert Urich and a whole bunch of other popular TV actors. It was totally cheesy, but very funny and I loved it.
We all love you right back, Erin! {HUGS}
Sharon, clearly we need to improve your pirate knowledge. Come with me…there are a LOT of awesome pirate captains to get to know…
It's hard to argue against Captain Jack, innit?
Maria, help Sharon meet the pirates! LOL Great choices!
Excellent choice, Tore. Good luck!
Oh, but it's not enough said, Bama! We demand more details. ;-D
I really liked the Commodore, too. Hey, sometimes I like the good guys, too.
Oh, I surely hope so, JC! Though it's tough boots to fill.
You know it, NoraA! And excellent pirate choice, going for the classics!
Thanks, Kenton, I totally agree!
Plus they're hella fun to write because of all those slippery situational ethics of theirs.
I know, Marika! I think Han deserves more votes. And, um, Malcolm Reynolds is the captain from Firefly. ;-D And, of course I've watched it. We own it, and Serenity, on DVD. (Why do you think I started watching Castle? LOL)
Thanks, Lexi! I was shocked to discover that Outland is a real last name. But it works for me. LOL
And who else could make bad teeth and poor grooming look so incredibly sexy?
Jesse, I appreciate your caveat! And I agree, it's hard to beat Johnny Depp in anything.
Captain Jack is totally winning this "contest", isn't he? LOL
Please tell me that you watched One Life To Live, too? That's where I discovered Nathan….
Excellent choice, Ann! I love Mal.
Thanks, Aurian! I'm really glad you're enjoying the blog tour! It's really a lot of fun for me, too.
Oh, nice one, Ericka! I was wondering if anyone was going to toss Will/Orlando in there.
No, the only soap I ever watched was Dark Shadows. I discovered Nathan via Buffy.
Wow this sounds like this book is going to rock! And yes mine is Jack Sparrow. Or maybe I should just say Johnny Depp. I can hardly wait for Dark
Shadows the movie. More Johnny Depp! Woohoo! I really like the way you spin
a tale.
Thanks, Lisa! I have to get to Dark Shadows, too. (I confess to catching Avengers a second time last weekend instead of DS. But, you know, it was 6 or 7 hunks to 1 and the majority won. LOL)
Hi, Thankyou for a wonderful giveaway, my favourite pirate is, and don't laugh, it's Blackbeard, do you remember the film Blackbeards Ghost, I saw it in the 80's as a child and wanted him to visit me, he was so cuddly and funny, and very caring, even though he pretended not to be, lol, of course it goes without saying Nathan and johnny were excellent pirates and very yummy, but still blackbeard did it for me, in a bubbly santa sort of way, lol, x x
julienewberry(at)btinternet(dot)com
Excellent choice with Blackbeard! And you're not alone, others also appreciate the Pirate of Pirates that Blackbeard was. (I will confess to loving Tim Curry as Long John Silver in what I think was Muppet Treasure Island, mostly because, well, he's TIM CURRY. But I digress…)
I have to go with Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp is so hot!
Gini – I love your Alien series and look forward to reading about your Space Pirates.
My favorite pirate is Jack Sparrow – He's certainly the best looking one.
I have 2 favourites: I know I'm being repetitive but Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack Sparrow made him such a memorable and unforgettable character!
The other is Malcolm Reynolds, played by Nathan Fillion in Firefly, I heard that Gini is a fan as well ;-D lol
And so happy there's a new Gini release! 😀
Thanks, JoAnna! And it's hard to go wrong with Johnny Depp. LOL
I'm still partial to Han Solo and Malcolm Reynolds, though no one would ever toss Johnny Depp out of bed for eating crackers. ;-D
Hey, repetition just means we all like the same pirates. You know, the best ones! 😀
