New to the island to raise his goddaughter, he’s as mouthwatering as any of Kit’s creations. It’s just her luck that he’s the spawn of the very law firm that helped crush her dreams…

Fortunately, Kit’s new friends can assure her that Morgan is no typical Westlake—and that even lawyers, not to mention single dads, need romance. If Kit can just be persuaded to follow her appetite—and set another place at her holiday table—her sweetest dreams just might come true.

A Cursed Embrace Blog Tour Review and Giveaway

I am very excited today to be hosting A Cursed Embrace Blog Tour with our special guest, Cecy Robson.  The Weird Girls series is a wonderful series and I hope you all check it out.

1. Tell us a little bit about your new release A CURSED EMBRACE

A CURSED EMBRACE is the story of love, and exploding demons―I’m deadly serious. The demons have found a way to cross into our world and remain among us. This novel also delves into Celia’s relationship with Aric, a pureblood werewolf. While the action and humor found in SEALED WITH A CURSE remains, A CURSED EMBRACE is more of an emotional roller coaster.

2. Where did you come up with the idea for the Weird Girls?

My weird girls originally developed from a dream about four commando-type girls, and one who has a vision about their boyfriends being in trouble. I know nothing about the military, but I liked the idea of the girls having powers. My imagination took it from there. Since the girls were so different, they needed a bond. So I made them sisters.

3. The sisters are nurses.  Did you always plan for them to be nurses or was there another career in mind?

The sisters have always been ostracized by the human world, and have really only ever had each other to rely on. I wanted to give them careers where they could realistically work near each other in case something went wrong. And believe me, “something” goes wrong all the time. Nursing provides the perfect opportunity for the sisters to stay close to each other while giving them their own specialty to fit their personalities.

4. How many books do you plan for this series?

I have eight, already planned for Celia, two for Taran and Emme each, and one for Shayna. I also have two spin-off series planned.  There could also be more, depending on how well the novels are received.

5. What are you working on now?

I have my Old Erth series, a high fantasy romance on submission. I’m also currently working on a magical, post-apocalyptic New Adult novel tentatively titled The Falcon Series.

6. Do you have any actors in mind for each of your characters?

Of course! I’d love to have Emmy Rossum play Celia, Emmanuelle Chriqui for Taran, Lily Collins as Shayna, and Dianna Agron would make a great Emme.  I’d also love to see Alex Pettyfer portray Aric, and Taylor Kitsch would make a fantastic Misha.

7. What food or drink do you absolutely have to have while writing?

Water, hot green tea, and anything crunchy―I love blueberries to munch on and also walnuts!

8. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

To keep writing, no matter what you hear, or how discouraged you feel. A lot of people will tell you no. And some “no’s” will feel like emotional gut punches to your soul. All it takes is one yes to launch a career.

9. Favorite type of Pizza?

 Margarita!

Thank you so much for being here today and I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy to answer my questions.

Thank you for having me, Jennifer, you’ve been so wonderful!

Jennifer’s Review of A Cursed Embrace

TITLE:  A Cursed Embrace

SERIES #: The Weird Sisters #2

CHARACTERS: Celia Wird, Aric & Misha

AUTHOR: Cecy Robson

PUBLICATION DATE:  07/02/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls–with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird…

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status.  And once weres start turning up dead–with evidence pointing to the vampires–she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat.  An evil know as the Tribe has risen–and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I had been waiting patiently for A Cursed Embrace after reading Sealed with a Curse last year and I have to say that this book put me on the edge of my seat. There is a mysterious force at work in Lake Tahoe that is killing young men and disappearing with young women.  Celia and her sisters find that demons are involved in the rash of missing persons and now they are targeting the local weres.  I am continually amazed at how Cecy Robson creates such an intricate storyline that has you wondering how this is all going to end and will make you desperately want the next book in the series immediately.

I love Celia and Aric together and in this book, they finally act on the feelings that they have for each other and I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly develop.  Since Aric is the Alpha, being with Celia causes issues amongst his pack and there were times in this book that my heart was breaking for her because he couldn’t admit his true feelings for her.

Celia, to me, is a true heroine because not only is she strong and smart but will do everything in her power to protect the people that she loves even it means possibly losing her life in the process. Her relationship with her sisters is absolutely amazing and I just love how they take care of each other in the good times and when things are bad for one of them.

The ending of this book just about killed me and I had tears running down my face by the very last page. The storyline for this book is very intense and at times hard to stomach so please be prepared going in. Even though the subject matter isn’t light, it is well worth the roller coaster ride of emotions. A Cursed Embrace is action-packed from the very beginning and it proves that the Weird Sisters are a force to be reckoned with in the paranormal genre.  I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Cursed by Destiny, which is out next year.

Julie Does Julia – and makes Traditional French Baguettes

Julie never did much cooking back in Philadelphia, as the only thing she really liked to make was reservations. All that changed of course, once she found herself in the woods with very few dining options beside what she could create herself. So ever adventurous, she threw herself into French cooking and more than that, traditional French eating, a staple being the crusty baguette to go with the evening meal’s cheese course. So armed with a copy of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Vol 2, Julie did Andy proud with her crusty fresh loaves of traditional pain… (NOTE: this is made with an electric mixer equipped with dough hook and flat beater).

Julia Child’s French Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (120º – 130º)

Directions

  1. In the mixing bowl of a stand mixer using the flat beater, combine the yeast, 2 1/2 cups flour and salt. Mix on low for about 30 seconds.
  2. With the motor running on low, pour in the warm water. Continue mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Clean off beater and switch to the dough hook. Mix in the remaining cup of flour a little at a time, to make a soft dough, adding more or less flour as needed. Knead the dough for 5 minutes. The surface should be smooth and the dough will be soft and somewhat sticky.
  3. Turn the dough onto a kneading surface and let rest for 2 – 3 minutes while you wash and dry the bowl.
  4. Return the dough to the mixing bowl and let it rise at room temperature (about 75º) until 3 1/2 times its original volume. This will probably take about 3 hours.
  5. Deflate the dough and return it to the bowl. Let the dough rise at room temperature until not quite tripled in volume, about 1 1/2 – 2 hours.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the rising surface: rub flour into canvas or linen towel placed on a baking sheet. (I used parchment paper.)
  7. Divide the dough into 3, 6, or 12 pieces depending on the size loaves you wish to make. Fold each piece of dough in two, cover loosely, and let the pieces relax for 5 minutes.
  8. Shape the loaves and place them on the prepared towel or parchment. Cover the loaves loosely and let them rise at room temperature until almost triple in volume, about 1 1/2 – 2 1/2 hours.
  9. Preheat oven to 450º. Set up a “simulated baker’s oven” by placing a baking stone on the center rack, with a metal broiler pan on the rack beneath, at least 4 inches away from the baking stone to prevent the stone from cracking.
  10. Transfer the risen loaves onto a peel.
  11. Slash the loaves.
  12. Spray the loaves with water. Slide the loaves into the oven onto the preheated stone and add a cup of hot water to the broiler tray.
  13. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown. (If you used parchment paper you will want to remove it after about 10-15 minutes to crisp up the bottom crust. Spray the loaves with water three times at 3-minute intervals.
  14. Cool for 2 – 3 hours before cutting.

Ari Grant spends her days helping the troubled youth of Glory City, and her nights trying to feel something other than the cold numbness that has settled in her bones. She manages to escape notice from the gunman, a former client, but only because she’s saved by Glory City’s own Vigilante. A hooded man who has impeccable timing when it comes to those in need.

It seems Ari isn’t the only one trying to save lost souls or looking for a life outside their job. She’s caught the attention of Nick Sanders, a handsome attorney at juvenile court. Solid and steady, he seems the perfect fit, but Ari has developed an obsession with Davis, the mysterious and sexy director of a local fight club that rehabilitates delinquent boys.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Mocha Chocolate Chip… Caramel Fudge…Strawberry Lemonade…Butter Rum…There’s no such thing as guilt when it’s another delicious bitch and bake session with the women of the Cupcake Club…

REVIEW:
Another great Cupcake Club novel for Donna Kauffman. I was a little worried about this story in the beginning. It seemed like both Dylan and Honey were both so introverted that I could not imagine that they could connect and while they did have a bit of a connection it felt forced. But that did not take long to change. Once the real Dylan came out and he pulled Honey with him I was a goner. I could not stop reading this book.

There are two big differences with this Cupcake Club novel first there was not a lot about the Cupcake Club in it. Yes they met a couple of times but they did not have the presence that they have had in the other three books. And the other difference from other Kauffman books I have read (and I think I have read them all or close to it) is that Honey has a idiosyncrasy (no spoiler here) that is not usually written into Kauffman’s books and yet it is an intricate part of this story.

You do not need to have read the other in the series to read this one but as I usually do I say start from book one but either way you will enjoy this interesting and intriguing story.

Kimberly reviews Highland Werewolf Wedding by Terry Spear

TITLE: A Highland Werewolf Wedding
SERIES #: Heart Of The Wolf #11
CHARACTERS: Elaine & Cearnach
AUTHOR: Terry Spear
PUBLICATION DATE: 05/07/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Elaine Hawthorn is a gray American werewolf, currently out of work, and on a mission to share in a family treasure. When she arrives in Scotland, she nearly has a head-on collision with one hot, kilt-garbed Highlander, and runs him off the road.

Werewolf laird Cearnach MacNeill isn’t happy Elaine ruined his car, but he quickly becomes her protector after a misunderstanding lands her right in the middle of two feuding clans. Now he’s out to ensure that this sexy female wolf gets her fair share of her clan’s treasure. He knows he should leave well enough alone, but it’s too late to leave his heart out of it.

REVIEW:
This is actually the 11th in the series which I did not know when I requested it but for the most part it can stand alone. There was some parts that made me realize that other characters had their own stories but nothing I found that confused me enough to not understand the story.

This is an interesting way of writing. Being about werewolves it is set in modern times yet the story has a historical feel. I really enjoyed the story. Cearnach is a great character. He has the heart of a warrior with modern time romance in his soul. Elaine is written as strong and independent but yet she follows her heart. I enjoyed the background characters too even though honestly there was not a lot about them.

This book also had a number of wolf scenes which it seems is forgotten in a number of shape-shifter stories now. Even the connection when the characters are in wolf form is interesting.

Any fan of shape-shifter romance will love this story and as I said it can most certainly stand alone but I think I might go back and read the rest of the series one day and will definitely read the next in the series.

Jennifer reviews Club Monstrosity by Jesse Petersen

TITLE: Club Monstrosity
SERIES #: Club Monstrosity #1
CHARACTERS: Natalie Grey, Alec, Kia
AUTHOR: Jesse Petersen
PUBLICATION DATE: 04/29/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
There are monsters in New York…Natalie’s one of Frankenstein’s creations and works in a New York City morgue. So, of course she needs therapy. She and her friends–er, fellow monsters–have formed the world’s most exclusive, most dysfunctional support group. What could go wrong?

Undetected in the modern world and under pressure to stay that way, Natalie Grey, Dracula, Bob the Blob, and others (including the fetching wolfman Alec) meet regularly to talk about the pressures of being infamous in the Big Apple. Topics include how long it’s been since their last sighting, how their “story” creates stereotypes they can’t fulfill, and–gasp–sometimes even their feelings. But when their pervy Invisible Man, Ellis, is killed in a manner reminiscent of the H.G. Wells novel, it’s clear someone’s discovered their existence and is down for some monster busting.

Led by Natalie–and definitely not helped by Hyde’s bloodthirsty tendencies–the members of Monstofelldosis Anonymous band together for security and a little sleuthing. And maybe–maybe–if they don’t end up dead, they’ll end up friends somewhere along the way.

REVIEW:
This was a great book for me because I have always loved the old monster movies as a child and imagine now that these same monsters have been leading normal lives with you and me all along. Jesse Petersen has created such a charming, hilarious and highly-entertaining tale about monsters living among us and I instantly fell in love with these characters. Natalie Grey was so adorable as one of Frankenstein’s creations who worked in the city morgue at night trying to hide her superhuman strength and her scars from the rest of the world. I loved how she seemed to find herself in charge of the investigation with Alec when she was so used to hiding in the shadows so she wouldn’t be discovered. She went from being a meeky character to this strong woman who would do anything to protect the people that she considered her “family.”

Alec was a super sweet guy who instantly connected with Natalie during the murder investigation and probably wouldn’t have gotten to know her if these murders hadn’t of happened. I loved how he was sort of a Casanova with the ladies but who also had a hard time keeping a roommate around the full moon. The secondary characters in Club Monstrosity were very entertaining and made want to watch all their movies again to familiarize myself with their stories. Jesse Petersen is a fabulous writer and I can’t wait to read the second book in this great series.
