Sure! I grew up in NJ, but now live in Iowa with my husband and our three children. I love the Midwest but I do miss being near my family and the ocean. I’ll have my yearly fix here soon when we go to visit my sister in Florida.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I’ve always loved to write but the idea of publishing came later. I had a bad habit of starting a story, getting distracted by life, putting it aside and never getting back to it. When my youngest started preschool, I set it as a challenge to myself to finish something. That was Mercy which was picked up and published by Carina Press in 2010.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

Oh, wow, that’s a long list! I grew up reading a lot of fantasy and horror- Stephen King, Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings, Anne McAffrey, Lois Duncan. The first romances I picked up were historical romances by Judith McNaught, Lisa Kleypas and Julie Garwood. Then came paranormal romance which is sort of a combination of all of those genres. Recent favorites are Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series and Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series.

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

I do also write fantasy romance. Paranormal Romance is a combination of all of my favorite genres—fantasy, romance and horror. I can’t seem to write a story without an element of the supernatural in one form or another.

What are some of your writing rituals?

Gah. I wish I had a more stable routine. During the winter, I write in the mornings after the kids are off to school and then take care of the business end of things in the afternoons. During the summer, I switch so that I work primarily at night after everyone is in bed.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?Witch Bound

Witch Bound is a paranormal romance based on Norse mythology. The premise is that Asgard was destroyed centuries ago at Ragnarök. Some of the Æsir managed to escape to earth where they settled in spots where the wall between worlds is the thinnest. The descendants of those refugees still guard the portals to prevent the demons who destroyed their world from coming here. Witch Bound tells the story of a witch named Raquel who is joining a new clan through an arranged marriage. Everyone is counting on her to replace the failing wards that protect the town, but she has trouble controlling her power. While she’s dealing with that, she falls in love with the best man-Fen, a wolf shifter who’s sworn to never take a mate.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I’ve always had a fascination with Norse mythology, but the series was also inspired by a place where we go camping every year. It’s in the driftless area of Iowa, called that because it wasn’t glacierized during the last glacial period, leaving it hillier and more wooded than the rest of the state. It’s an isolated and beautiful spot that was settled by Norse immigrants who still maintain a strong connection to their heritage. Put the two together and you have Norse demigods living in Iowa.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Of course! Right now I’m working on a historical paranormal romance called Reaper’s Touch. I call it my zombies vs. cowboys story because it’s set in a sort of post-apocalyptic version of the Wild West. The first book is scheduled to release February 3 and the second a few months after that.

Pg. 114 – Raquel is about to cross into Asgard with the wild hunt on a rescue mission…or possibly an assassination attempt. At this point in the story, it could go either way.

What would you be if you were not an author?

Journalist. That’s what I studied in college. I guess I’d be writing either way.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I just bought Heart of Iron by Bec McMaster and I’m looking forward to getting started on it. I really liked the first book in the series.

REVIEW:
I am sorta on the fence with this book. It has a bunch of potential and I was interested and wanted to know what was going to happen because the story was very different but it was also really unimpressive in a way. The writing is very simplistic and the characters never seem to really have a connection. Nick is very brooding but not in a good way. He is almost rude in this actions to Daniella. And she is a bit irritating.

The thing that I didn’t like most about this story is how everything just happens to fall into place. I know that sounds weird but it gets old. They need something and it somehow is sitting right next to them. The author changes the “vampire rules” a lot in this story too. And the other irritating thing is she does too much name dropping. So many song/bands, authors, tv shows/movies, etc are listed to count. I do not know why but that also gets old quick. There is also the fact that there is very little of vampire acts in the story.. Honestly I do not think one neck was sucked at all.

Now that all being said it did hold my attention and the story is a bit different so it is something I wanted to finish to see what happened. If you enjoy cheesy vampire stories you will enjoy this one. It keeps your attention if you can get past all the other stuff.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
My second Susan Mallery book was just as good as the 1st one I read Just One Kiss #11 in the Fools Gold series.

Felicia (who we met in Just One Kiss and I would highly recommend you read Just One Kiss first) is the brainy, sexy, socially awkward new girl. Felicia has had a very strange and lonely childhood. Now she just wants to be normal. To finally fit in. To finally know what it is like to be loved and to love. But the person she wants to do all this with has made it clear that he his not the forever type.

Gideon may have dreams of Felica. He may wish that he could be everything she needs, but he knows he can’t. He is not whole any more, not after what happened to him. And Felicia deserves someone better then him. But when Felicia asks him to teach her how to date and teach her how she should act with a boyfriend. Gideon is powerless to say no.

These two are so perfect for each other. Throw in some twists and turns of life, the past and the possible future, you have an awesome story. You will be rooting for Gideon to man up and for Felicia to stand up for what she wants. Very much looking forward to the next book in this series Three Little Words.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Stars So this is the 12th in the Fool’s Gold series and with all of her books Susan Mallery takes us to a place that not only do we love to visit but we wish we could live.

I will be honest and say I was unsure about this story when I first started it. Felicia is a bit hard to get to know. She is what we know as “book smart but not street smart” and is a bit rough around the edges. She has never lived a normal life and her IQ is off the charts high so while at first her intelligence and yet her naivety is a little overwhelming it soons becomes endearing. Gideon on the other hand is the strong silent type. We met Gideon in the last Christmas story Mallery put out so while we knew he was a loner we also got to see that he had a heart in that muscled up body and this books just shows us more of it and gets to the heart of why he is now the strong silent guy he is.

As with all of this series you can easily pick up any book to read it as a stand alone and this story is no different but this story really gives the reader a feel of the town of Fool’s Gold that we haven’t seen as much of lately. You will never go wrong visiting Fool’s Gold or reading any of Susan Mallery’s books.

nest so I’d feel more at home. And again, if you remove anything, my redesign will be a thousand times worse.”
“What are you trying to do to me?” he growled, facing her.

DAMON STORMED THROUGH the kitchen, shoving his way into the restaurant. The smells of simmering white wine and melted cheeses invaded his nose. Shouts echoed behind him. An angry cook yelled as he passed, “You can’t come in here!”

Not a surprising reaction to a man in a ski mask. He ignored them all and kept going.

At the sight of him, a woman in his path spilled a large vat of what appeared to be pea soup. The liquid splashed over the steel toes of his boots.

Caius’s body jolted before he spun to face Damon. Tiffany fell to the floor, gasping for air. A small trickle of blood ran down her neck from where Caius’s fingernails had dug into her skin as he choked her. Rage coursed through Damon at the sight. A loud snarl ripped from his throat. Caius would die.

He fired another shot straight into the ancient bloodsucker’s chest, blowing a massive hole in Caius’s body, but at Caius’s age, the skin and organs knitted together again in seconds. Damon tucked his gun away, and ripped a silver dagger and his wooden stake from his jacket.

Fangs already down, Caius hissed, and the two of them charged each other. They collided at full speed, meeting each other blow for blow. A normal man stood no chance against a vampire as old as Caius, but gifted with the speed and strength of his Execution Underground training, Damon held his own. Anger and rage fueled his every move.

No vampire hurt Tiffany and lived. None.

REVIEW:
This novella was just okay for me. There was a lot of down time in the story for me. I like the characters, but never really got invested in them.

I do plan on picking up book 1 when it is released and giving this world another try.

REVIEW:
This is a very short shapeshifter story. The timeline is very fast . Damon is a shifter and Aspyn comes to her fathers home and meets up with Damon. Aspyn learns that fate is a powerful thing.

I enjoyed this story very much. I just wish this story had been a bit longer. I would have loved more time with these characters. If you love having a quick read around just in case you are stuck somewhere and need a story to grab this is the one for you.

An Introduction to the Redwood Pack World

            Every time I open a book to read I get to jump into a new world. When I started writing, I was so excited because I got to make up my own world. The Redwood Pack is an ancient Pack of wolves who hide their animal halves from the unsuspecting humans.

            In each Pack there are different hierarchies. Not all Packs are the same. Not all positions and powers in the Pack are known to the other Packs.

            In the Redwoods there are certain positions and most of them surround the Alpha’s family—the Jamensons.

            Edward Jamenson is the Alpha, their leader. He and his wife Pat, have six sons and one daughter. Kade, the eldest son, is the Heir, the next in line to be Alpha. His story was told in book 1 of the series, An Alpha’s Path. You see, it started with a blind date that turned into something more with Melanie.

Jasper is the second son and the Beta. His story is told in A Taste for a Mate. His story with Jasper brought out the entire world of darkness with the Central’s war.

            Adam is the fourth oldest and is the Enforcer. He went through so much before this series started that in his book, Enforcer’s Redemption (Book 4) that it literally took it all out of me and readers to get through it. But he found his mate in Bay.

Reed is the fourth eldest and doesn’t hold a position in the Pack outside of being a family member. He is though, in a relationship with Josh and Hannah. He loves them both and literally went through hell to keep them in Trinity Bound.

Maddox and North are twins and next in age. Maddox is the Omega, while North does not hold a position. Maddox and North have been within each story line and now Maddox has his story FINALLY with Ellie in Shattered Emotions. North will have his soon as well, but now it’s Maddox’s turn.

Cailin is the baby and the only girl. Her mate will have to be someone strong as hell to deal with her feisty attitude.

            My Jamensons are werewolves. They have two souls – one of man and one of wolf. They work hard for control, but are inherently good. But the Jamensons aren’t the only wolves out there. There is another Pack bent on destroying all that the Redwoods hold dear. It will take everything they have and every power they possess to save themselves and the humans.

            Each sibling will find their mate or mates J and do all that they can to keep them. There is love, heat, *ahem* sex, fighting, sorrow and happiness. Everything that I love to read. LOL I love making new worlds and finding secrets.

            The Redwood World is dark, twisty, hot, feisty, and full of secrets. I can’t wait for you to indulge.

REVIEW:

2.5 Stars This is the second in the series. I have to say that it is not as good as the first in the series. This one is written in Ethan’s point of view while the first one was Brynne’s and it just did not seem the same. Ethan is such a needy character and while he is supposed to have a domineering side it is just not much there as far as I can tell. He also seems to be obsessed with sex with Brynne but it always seems to be the same type of sex if you ask me and he seems to confuse sex with love. He can actually sometimes turn irritating.

Brynne seemed off in this story too she seemed to turn marshmallowy in this book. While we learned more about her background and wow what a background it is and explains her attitude I actually wonder if a person who has gone through what she has would actually become the sexually submissive and everyday marshmallow that she is.

I hope the next in the series end up being better than this one.
