Kelly’s interview with Jennifer Ryan

Books-n-Kisses is please to welcome first time guest Jennifer Ryan….

Jennifer, can you please share with us a little about yourself?

I married my high school sweetheart nearly twenty-four years ago. We have three amazing kids. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my family and working in the garden. I hate doing laundry and am obsessed with all things chocolate.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I’ve always been an avid reader. I get that from my mother. Believe it or not, I never thought about being a writer until I became a stay-at-home mom. All those books I read and loved turned into a passion for making up my own happy-ever-afters with some suspense thrown in. I was actually working full-time as a Cable Systems Designer when I sold my first book. I continued to work for more than a year after my first book came out. Five books later, I quit my job and am now living my dream as a full-time writer. I love it!

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

Ask my husband and he’ll tell you I am a creature of habit with one superpower, I can block out everything when I write – including my kids talking to me. They’re used to it, and I make it up to them with baked treats. I write 7 days a week. It almost always goes the same way – coffee or tea with cookies or chocolate, a movie from the DVR I’ve seen a hundred times (right now it’s Divergent), me on the couch with my laptop. I write anywhere from a couple of hours to all day some weekends, depending on how well it’s going. No matter what, I try to move the story forward each day.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

Most challenging is naming all the characters. I swear, it’s like naming your child, but there’s a dozen people who show up on the page.

Most rewarding is seeing my books in print and fans contacting me to tell me how much they loved the story. It never gets old and every book that gets published makes me anxious and nervous in the best way.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

AT WOLF RANCH is the first book in my new Montana Men series. Fans of The Hunted Series got a glimpse of my Montana Men in CAN’T WAIT when Caleb married Summer and Caleb’s brothers attended the wedding.

Gabe Bowden gave up the rodeo to move home and settle down on his own land. When Phillip Wolf offers to sell him Wolf Ranch at a too-good-to-be-true price, he doesn’t ask questions and takes the deal. He’ll finally have the ranch he’s always wanted, and maybe he’ll find a woman who shares his dream of a simple life on the ranch.

Ella Wolf is a New York socialite everyone thinks is nothing more than a party girl. They don’t know her. When her twin sister Lela is murdered by their uncle, Ella will do anything to discover the secrets her sister uncovered about their uncle.

The only clue Ella has leads her to their family ranch in Montana. Stranded on the side of the road in a snowstorm and about to freeze to death, she’s rescued by a handsome cowboy. Gabe vows to help her find the evidence and take down her uncle before he finds and kills her too.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

The idea for the Montana Men series came while I wrote Can’t Wait and Caleb’s brothers arrived for his wedding. Gabe, Blake, and Dane needed their own stories.

For AT WOLF RANCH, I wanted Gabe to fall for a woman who is all wrong for him, but really the right one. He was stood up at the altar by a woman who seemed like the perfect country girl. He loves Ella, but doesn’t think it will work because she’s a city girl. She’ll prove to him she’s a country girl at heart.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

I am actually working on Book 5 – The Hunted Series. No title yet. Fans of the series have asked for Ben’s story, and I’m happy to give it to them. Ben appears in SAVED BY THE RANCHER. He’s a lawyer with a mission to help abused women escape their terrible circumstances. Right now, he’s trying to save Kate and her son from falling victim to a spoiled, entitled man who thinks his money can get him out of anything – including murder.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Julie Garwood, and Tami Hoag are some of my favorite contemporary and suspense writers. Some of my favorite writer friends are Lia Riley, Marina Adair, Hannah Jayne, and Jules Barnard. Believe it or not, I’m a huge historical romance fan. I love Stephanie Laurens, Monica McCarty, Hannah Howell, and Lynsay Sands to name a few.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

All of them in some way. Over time though, I’ve developed my own style and voice. I have a way of organizing my stories that works for me, like the opening scene is usually something that will blow you away – or at least I hope it does.

Open your book to a random page and please reads us a few lines.

“I’m staying. Don’t mind me.”

“A little privacy would be nice,” she shot back.

“I’ve already seen you half naked. Believe me, right now, all I’m interested in are your injuries.”

Right now. As in later might be a different story. Maybe that was wishful thinking, because this man did all kinds of weird things to her insides. She wanted him to stay. She wanted him to go. And, oh God, how stupid of her, she wanted him to wrap his arms around her again and tell her everything was going to be okay.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Due to my writing schedule, it’s hard to find time to read, but on top of my To Read pile is Elizabeth Lowell’s Running Scared.

I am very excited to see Gabe’s brother’s books come out. If you’re interested in Gabe, you’ll love his brothers Blake and Dane in WHEN IT’S RIGHT and HER LUCKY COWBOY.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I had a great time, Kelly. Thanks for inviting me to Books-n-Kisses today.

At Wolf Ranch

Montana Men #1

at wolf ranch

Everything’s bigger in Big Sky country, including the hearts of the Montana Men…After years on the rodeo circuit, Gabe Bowden wants nothing more than land of his own and a woman who will claim his heart for more than one night. When he has the chance to buy the enormous Wolf Ranch spread, he snaps up the incredible deal. Everything is set, until Gabe rescues a woman on the deserted, snowy road leading to the property, and the half-frozen beauty changes everything.

Ella Wolf rushes to her family’s abandoned Montana ranch after her twin sister is murdered. She knows she’s next . . . unless she can uncover a secret hidden somewhere at Wolf Ranch. The last thing Ella expects is to be rescued by a rugged rancher with his own agenda. A man who almost makes her forget how dangerous love can be.

As an unlikely partnership sparks into something so much more, and a killer closes in, can Ella and Gabe learn to trust one another before it’s too late?

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
WILL A FEW FLIRTATIOUS STEPS

Harry Norcliffe never wanted to inherit his beloved uncle’s title. The rigidity of the ton, the incessant reminders from his marriage-minded mama that he must settle down with a highborn lady and produce an heir and a spare: it’s all such a dreadful bore. So when his mother asks him to take part in a dancing competition, he patently refuses. The last thing he needs is another chore . . . until a beautiful, brilliant, delightfully tempting maid makes him rethink his position.

LEAD TO A SCANDALOUS SEDUCTION?

Most women would be over the moon to be pursued by a wickedly handsome—not to mention wealthy—duke like Norcliffe. But Lucy will not be any man’s trophy. She could use a friend, though, and what begins innocently soon ignites into desire. As Lucy tries to resist Harry’s scorching kisses, he makes an utterly irresistible offer. Enter the dance contest with him, and win a prize that could change her life forever . . . if falling in love doesn’t change it first.

REVIEW:
Finally we get Harry’s book. I have really liked Harry since first met him on that wet soggy night. He has been one of my favorites, right after Bells. And Harry’s story is just perfect for him.

As the last unmarried of his friends he has started to re-think his lifestyle after the death of his favorite Uncle. Harry finally meets his match in Lucy.

Lucy is one tough cookie. Lucy not only has to take care of herself but her ailing grandmother. Not an easy thing to do when you are a women in London. But a chance in counter with Sir Galahad will change everything.

I loved this story. I have enjoyed this whole series. If you have enjoyed the first two book in the Sinful Scoundrels you will love Harry’s book. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Dreiling has in store for us next.

Jennifer’s Review of Heartbreak Cove

Review (4.25 Stars): Sanctuary Island is a place that I would love to visit over and over again and Heartbreak Cove is a great addition to this charming series.  Sheriff Andie Shepard was getting comfortable in her new life in Sanctuary Island and wasn’t planning for romance until Sam Brennan came back into her life changing everything.  Sam was back in town to rehabilitate a horse and can’t fight the increasing attraction that he has always felt for Andie.  While all this is happening, Andie discovers that she has a niece that she never knew existed and has to care for her until her father returns from the military.  With more on her plate than expected, Andie spends more time with Sam rehabilitating horses to help Caitlin and soon discover that love may be in their future after all.

Andie portrayed herself as a tough character that could handle anything but that was an image that she worked so hard to create.  She had a troubled home life growing up and was used to having order to help her get by.  Sam had a difficult childhood as well and they just were perfect for each other.  They balanced each other out and had such great chemistry with one another.   Sam was great with Andie’s niece, Caitlin, because he saw a little bit of himself in her.  He was able to reach her in ways that Andie couldn’t and it was just amazing to watch Caitlin’s personality slowly emerge when she was around horses. Love and patience can help heal anything and for Sam and Andie, it was exactly what they needed.

This is the third book in the Sanctuary Island series and it was great getting updates on previous characters and seeing what they have been up to since the last book.  Heartbreak Cove was a touching, light-hearted romance that readers will definitely enjoy and I can’t wait to visit these lovely characters again soon.

Natasha review Cursed by Fire by Jacquelyn Frank

curse by fireTITLE: Cursed by Fire
SERIES #: Immortal Brothers #1
CHARACTERS: Dethan & Selinda
AUTHOR: Jacquelyn Frank
PUBLICATION DATE: 2/24/15
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes the scorching hot first book in a thrilling new series featuring four warrior brothers who have the power—and the curse—of immortality.
For centuries, Dethan has been trapped in a fiery inferno for defying the gods and snatching the power of immortality. Condemned to have his battle-hardened body licked by flames only to regenerate and be consumed all over again, Dethan has lost all hope—until the Goddess of Conflict appears. She will release him from torment—if he’ll use his power and strength as a warrior to raise an army and defeat a fierce enemy faction of gods.
Free to live as a man once again, Dethan meets Selinda—heir to the throne of Hexis—and his thoughts quickly turn from the conquest of cities to the conquest of this headstrong beauty. Betrothed to a cruel, calculating powermonger, Selinda needs a champion, and so Dethan enters into another bargain: If she will share her bed—and her body—with him, Dethan will save her city from destructive forces within and without. As the lovers ignite a searing passion, Dethan will risk all—even the wrath of the Goddess of Conflict—for a chance to make Selinda his forever.

REVIEW:
What a great beginning to a new series! I loved this book! Dethan is a strong hero that carries this book wonderfully. I love the potential for this series – four strong brothers all suffering and hopefully brought back into the world. Selinda and Dethan are really great together. Though their association starts off a little shaky things really begin to turn for them throughout the story. Selinda is a meek, fragile little thing for most of the book – and I did wish she would toughen up a little earlier, but it worked out. I was completely captivated by the story and couldn’t put the book down. Things were moving a little slow at times, but I enjoyed the characters so much I didn’t mind it too much. I cannot wait for book two!

An excerpt from What a Devilish Duke Desires.

He took off his coat and went to tend the fire. His wide shoulders needed no padding. When he rose and dusted his hands, she noted his superior height once again. In his waistcoat and shirtsleeves, she could discern the way his waist tapered.

He joined her on the sofa and laid his arm across the top of it. “Tired?” he asked.

“No.” She was too aware of him. In the shadowy room, she could not see his bright blue eyes, but the soft sound of his breathing mingled with hers. The tension between them crackled all around her. A long moment suspended. Her senses were heightened, and her breasts felt heavier for some odd reason. She discerned the scent of wintergreen soap and something else—something masculine and irresistible. Something unique to him.

He leaned closer, and she could feel the whisper of his breath on her lips. “From the first moment we met, I could not get you out of my head.”

His words made her feel giddy, but she held back, because she was still a little wary. “I am undoubtedly the first woman to threaten you with a knife.”

He grinned. “Indeed you are. Now that you are unarmed, perhaps we could be friends.”

“We will shake on it,” she said, offering her hand.

He took her hand and turned her wrist, palm up. He looked up at her beneath his dark lashes, and then he kissed the tender underside of her wrist. When he touched his tongue to the pulse point, her breath shuddered out of her. She thought she might melt from the heat in his seductive gaze.

“I’d better go,” he said. There was a knowing look in his eyes, as if he was aware of exactly how he’d affected her.

When she inhaled on a shaky breath, he helped her to rise. She walked with him to the door as if she were enveloped in a fog.

He halted and gazed into her eyes. Then he drew her in his arms and kissed her gently on the lips. His mouth moved over hers and his hand slipped down the curve of her spine. Heat and longing surged inside her. He wrapped his arms around her, and she could feel the hard, unyielding muscles of his arms, chest, and thighs as he pressed her against him.

“Forgive me in advance,” he said.

“For what?” she whispered.

He kissed her gently once more, and then he drew his tongue along the seam of her mouth. Her lips parted and then his tongue was in her mouth, tasting her while his hands slid down her spine and to her bottom. He pulled her flush against him, and she could feel his hard body. She was breathing faster and everything inside of her was on fire for him. God help her, she wanted his hands all over her.

He broke the kiss, and she was aware that his breathing had quickened as well.

When he released her, he said, “Good night, sweet Lucy.”

Her limbs trembled a little as he strode out into the night, leaving her to wonder if he knew it was her first kiss.

Kelly reviews Accidentally Demonic by Dakota Cassidy

accidentally demonicTITLE: Accidentally Demonic
SERIES #: Accidentals #4
CHARACTERS: Clayton Gunnersson & Casey Schwartz
AUTHOR: Dakota Cassidy
NARRATOR: Meredith Mitchell
RUNTIME: 10 hours & 49 Minutes
AUDIO PUBLICATION DATE: May 30, 2014
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The devilish new novel from the national bestselling author of The Accidental Human

When mild-mannered Casey Schwartz wakes up in jail, she has no memory of how she got there. But after her sister, Wanda, bails her out, Casey has more to deal with than a foggy memory-like abrupt mood swings and fireballs shooting from her fingertips. But things really head south when a vampire shows up on her doorstep…

Vampire Clayton Gunnersson is seriously hot. And seriously taken-by a demon. In a ritual gone wrong, Clayton tried to get rid of his unwanted bond, but spilled some demonic blood on Casey, getting her possessed in the process. Now, Casey has to share her body and manage to keep her growing attraction to Clayton in check, because falling for her demon’s boyfriend just might get Casey killed-from the inside out.

REVIEW:
In Accidentally Demonic we get to finally met Wanda long lost sister Casey. Unfortunately it begins with Casey calling Wanda from jail. But that is just the beginning of Casey’s problems. Seems Casey has a little problem with fireballs, floating, horns and a very hot vampire.

Clayton has been living a lie for years. Okay more like centuries. But when he thinks has a way to rid himself of his demons he jumps at it. Sadly, things didn’t go according to plan. Now Clay’s problems include the cute Casey Schwartz.

Another fun book from Ms. Cassidy. I really liked Casey and Clay’s story. At times the story was a little slow. And there were a few times that I thought to myself “What why is this happening?” or “When did that rule change?” But as the story went on I did get my questions answered. Looking forward to the next story in this series.

As always Ms. Mitchell does a great job. My only issue with this audio version was there was a lot of yelling that does not translate very well.

Librarian Maureen O’Connell might have predicted she’d find herself crying into the ice cream case at the supermarket after a bad breakup—but she definitely never imagined that a guy hot enough to melt the Rocky Road would flirt with her right there in the freezer aisle. Only Gavin Fraser isn’t a fantasy, he’s a mouth-watering new flavor…

When a freak snowstorm strands Maureen at Gavin’s after just one date, it’s a perfect excuse for something a lot steamier than hot chocolate in front of the fire. It’s definitely lust. Can it also be love?

By the time she got to the ice cream freezer, Maureen couldn’t hold it in any more. So she just let it go. Why not?
It was a Friday night. Now that she was apparently single, why not let fat, ugly tears stain her oversized, hooded sweatshirt while she stood in the ice cream aisle of the grocery store?
“There’s frozen yogurt, you know.”

Maureen jumped and turned to see . . . well, a god. He was at least a head taller than she. His brown hair was a smidge too long and curled into the collar of his flannel shirt. His jaw was strong and sharp—a man face. His dark eyebrows emphasized deep blue eyes—eyes that were looking at her with curiosity, sympathy, and, if she wasn’t mistaken, a hint of mischief.

“I’m sorry?”

“If you’re so upset about the calories, try frozen yogurt.” “Oh, no, it’s not that, it’s just—” Maureen was stammering.

Stammering in front of a god.

“Kidding.”

“Oh. Ha.” Bad jokes. Okay, so he wasn’t perfect.

“Sorry. I do my best work in produce.” Damn, that was cute. He’s definitely perfect, Maureen thought as she stood there dumbly, unable to process the perfection of his face (and those shoulders—even through his beat-up leather jacket she could see he had strong shoulders).

Not to mention the fact that a god was making bad jokes at her while she stood crying with the freezer door open.

“Can I just—” He reached around her for a pint of mint chocolate chip.

“Oh, my gosh, yes, sorry.” Maureen completed that articulate thought by backing into her shopping cart.

“Hey, easy now,” the god said as he placed a steadying hand on her arm. Even through her sweatshirt she could feel his hand was warm and strong.

“Listen, are you okay?”

“What? Yes! I’m fine.”

“It’s just that I don’t always see beautiful women crying in front of the ice cream.”

Ha. Beautiful. “Where do you usually see them crying?” He laughed. “Nowhere, if I can help it.” “Well, I don’t usually do this. I’m just a little . . . emotional,” she sniffed, wiping her nose on her sleeve. Smooth, Maureen. Real smooth.

“I can see that.”

“I didn’t mean to bother you.”

“The only thing that will bother me is if I leave this store without seeing you smile. I bet you have a great smile.” She raised an eyebrow. Was he flirting? He was pretty sure of himself. Probably came from being so perfect.

“Ah, a look of disdain,” he said. “We’re getting somewhere.

So, what’s it gonna take to make you smile?” “Maybe I just don’t feel like smiling, okay? Maybe I have nothing to smile about.”

“Did your dog die?”

“What?”

“Is that why you’re crying? Your dog?” “No, I don’t have a dog.”

“Did you lose your job?”

“No.”

“Inoperable cancer?”

“No! That’s not funny.”

“Well, what else is there to cry about?” “My boyfriend, okay? My stupid boyfriend decided after two years that he’s ‘not feeling it’ so he dumped me.” “Idiot.”

“And I was naked!”

She caught him looking her up and down, no doubt taking in her spinster sweats and frazzled hair. “Double idiot.” “Yeah, right.”

“You know what you need?”

“A hit man?”

He laughed again, quick and smooth. “No. What you need is someone to take your mind off your boyfriend. Exboyfriend.” “Are you propositioning me? In a grocery store?” He looked a little flustered, but soldiered on. “I’ve seen it dozens of times. Beautiful, sharp women dropped by undeserving idiot men. And you’re going to go home and drown your sorrows in ice cream and wonder what you did wrong.” “Are you suggesting I shouldn’t eat ice cream?” “Hey, I’ve got no problem with ice cream,” he said, indicating the pint melting in his cart. “I have a problem with you feeling bad.”

“You don’t even know me.”

“I know you’re gorgeous.”

Maureen snorted.

“Okay, almost a smile. Have a drink with me?” He took a step forward.

Maureen felt somewhere in the back of her mind that she should step back. But he smelled good, like that crisp Irish soap she loved, so she didn’t.

Instead, she matched his step forward.

“Gorgeous, huh?”

“Absolutely. I love this hair.” He fingered a blonde curl that had escaped her ponytail. “Your freckles are adorable.” He ran a finger over her cheeks. “Your lips,” he ran a thumb over her lower lip, and Maureen couldn’t take it anymore.

She took that last step, closing the distance between them, and his mouth came down to meet hers. His lips were soft and warm, and she felt his fingers gently tickle her neck as she opened her mouth to let him in.

All of her tension, all of her heartache rushed out of her the moment her tongue touched his. At first he was tentative, but she began to wrestle his mouth, fighting to get closer.

His hands moved boldly down her back, pulling her hips until she slammed into him. She threw her arms around his neck and tilted her head so he could move deeper, deeper, exploring her with teeth and tongue. She lifted her foot onto the lip of the open freezer, tipping her knee out so she cradled his hips and the impressive bulge in his jeans. She clamped her fingers in his hair to get a hold on him because she thought she was melting away and she wasn’t ready for this to be over. This was nothing like kissing Dave. This man was a complete stranger and his kiss possessed her, bewitched her more thoroughly than Dave ever had. He wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her off her feet so she was pressed against him, molded to solid muscle. He felt so strong and so sure.

But a girl had to breathe. Reluctantly, she pulled back and he gently lowered her to the ground. She was glad to see he was as dazed and breathless as she was.

“Whoa.”

His simple exclamation, said on a swift exhale, hit her right in the gut. She had done that to him. She, disheveled and in sweatpants, had flummoxed a god.

She looked up into those deep blue eyes, still dark with passion.

And she smiled.

“I guess I do have something to smile about.”

Jennifer’s Review of Snowed In

Review (4 Stars): Snowed In was a delightful romance where two people discover that fate steps in when you least expect it.  Maureen has just been dumped by her boyfriend and finds herself in tears in the middle of the ice cream aisle when Gavin steps in, trying just about anything to make this beautiful stranger smile.  What started as a chance encounter turns into something more when they find themselves snowed in with no option but to get to know each other better.  Things are about to heat up for these two and this one night may turn into forever.

This was a fun, sexy novella that is fast-paced and will definitely keep your attention.  I liked Maureen and Gavin together and I thought it was extremely brave of Maureen to take a chance with Gavin right after meeting him in the grocery store.  They barely knew each other’s names but they had that spark and instant attraction that made them want to find out more about each other.  Their chemistry was off the charts and I was sad when this story came to an end because I wanted to read more about these characters.  Ms. Title did a great job with Snowed In and I would love to read more from her Southern Comfort series.

“Are you looking for pity?” She slipped her hand into his hair, as she always did. Something about the length, as if he were growing out a military cut, appealed to her as she wove the softness through her fingers.

His eyebrow lifted. “If that would work.”

“You’re getting there.”

She’d been so sure he was former Army—or something—and asked him about it the first week.

Nothing in his renter’s agreement talked about military service, but she got the vibe. Service members moved in and out of DC all the time. She got the routine, and recognized the straight stance and assured conversation. And he had the confident walk and toned body down.

He’d listened to her assessment and laughed it off, insisting his smartass ways would have gotten him kicked out on the first day. She pretty much agreed with that.

“I’m willing to do almost anything to lure you into bed,” he said in a heated voice.

“Interesting.” And more than a little tempting. After all, he was an expert with that tongue, and not just for talking.

He pulled her in closer, wrapping her in his arms and pressing his chest against hers. “Next time we’ll have to schedule in some phone-sex time while I’m gone. Imagine me ordering you to touch yourself. Pretty damn hot.”

Her heart did a little jig at the thought. Saying “next time” meant whatever they had wasn’t going away. For now, knowing that but little else was enough. Soon she’d need more. “You gotta tone down this sweet-talking or
it will go to my head.”

Before she could laugh, he lowered his head and treated her to a welcome home kiss that had her wanting to tie him in a chair to keep from leaving again. Hot and firm, he took control and dragged her under. His hands rubbed up and down her back as his mouth crossed over hers. When that sweet tongue slipped inside and met with hers, she dug her fingernails into his shirt. Almost bit through the cotton to hit skin.

He pulled back just far enough to stare down at her. The room spun and she held onto his shoulders to keep from falling down as babble filled her brain.

“What?”

“I can spit-shine my lines until they’re clever but we both know you’re the gatekeeper.”

She wasn’t exactly sure what he was talking about but she liked the sound of it. “Damn right.”

“And I am your sex slave.” His voice dipped low until it skidded across her senses.

She clenched her fingers even tighter against his shoulders. Had to clear her throat a few times before finally spitting out a word. “Nice.”

Those strong hands slipped down her back to land on her ass. “The green
light is totally in your control.”

His touch had her stretching up on the tips of her toes to brush her lower body against his. Not her most subtle move but then nothing about them being together was. They’d shifted from simmering to raging heat from the beginning. Skipped right over the get-to-know-you phase on the way to the bedroom.

She knew about his job and tried to keep a handle on his erratic schedule. His renter’s application included his social security number, which led to his impressive credit score and the glowing report from his last landlord in Virginia. The rest remained a mystery . . . except for the information she found in a few hundred Internet searches trying to make sure he wasn’t a wanted serial killer. Or married.

A woman had to be smart about these things. She refused to feel guilty about the dating recon after hearing one horror story too many from her friends. A guy with a hidden wife and an anger complex here. A guy who liked to wear women’s bikini underwear over there. Then there were the looking-for-money types. Yeah, no thank you.

Playing coy wasn’t her thing, and the attraction between them sparked on the initial walk through the condo had burst into full flame by the time she handed over the keys. He’d asked her out a few weeks later. She refused. Two days later he brought pizza over and they’d been seeing each other ever since.

Seeing as in sex. Lots of sex. The guy might work with computers but he knew his way around a woman’s body. Hands, tongue, mouth . . . lord.
After a rocky last relationship, the physical play with him and limited dating contact due to his work schedule appealed to her. It didn’t matter that the need to know more about him kept picking at her. She’d vowed to turn off her preference for being prepared for anything and just let things unfold without trying to steer them.

In that spirit: “I thought you were blowing out my pipes.”

He chucked in the middle of nibbling on her ear. The sound was so rich and deep, so sexy it hit with the force of a superpower. “I would love to do that, yes.”

She felt his arms around her waist with hands caressing her ass and the back of her thighs through her jeans. The dual blast of touching and closeness had her breath stuttering in her chest. She inhaled and caught his scent, the
same hint of black pepper she associated with his soap.

Unable to resist his face and that firm chin, she smoothed her fingertip around his mouth, letting the stubble of hair tickle her skin. “You should be resting from your boring conference and long flight.”

“That is not what I had in mind when I came over here.”

“My pipes, right?” She’d given him a key and the alarm code before he left on his latest trip. He’d been in and out working on the steps to the front door of the building. The argument about needing to get to the supply closet without tracking her down proved compelling. And the idea of him spending his first few hours back in DC fixing the plumbing problem she mentioned on his way out was just about the sexiest damn thing ever.

“Do your pipes need blowing?” He kept a straight face.

She had no idea how. “You make everything sound dirty.”

“Give me ten minutes and I’ll show you how dirty I can be.”

There it was, the flirty talk that drove her doubts away and had her handing over keys even though a little voice inside her head told her to be more careful. But there was no need to fight it. She didn’t plan to make him wait or work for it. Those days were behind them, and they had passed fast.

That left only one thing. “I have two words for you.”

One of his eyebrows lifted. “Which are?”

She leaned in until her mouth hovered over his. “Green light.”

He pulled back as his gaze searched hers. “You sure?”

Since she’d been giving him the go sign pretty much from the beginning and he’d been speeding ahead with her, his hesitation now struck her as odd. But those knowing hands skimming along her sides let her know he was ready when she was.

The answer was now.

Jennifer’s Review of Playing Dirty

Review (4 Stars): Playing Dirty is an action-packed thrill ride with espionage, suspense and sexy military men that will make your heart race. Ford Decker is the leader of an Alliance undercover group where their mission is to locate the whereabouts of a dangerous toxin that has been stolen and to eliminate the threat at all costs.  Ford finds himself romantically involved with Shay Alexander, who just happens to be the cousin of the suspect that may have the missing toxin.  Ford finds himself in too deep with Shay and for the first time, feels like this relationship might turn into something long-term that he once thought was out of reach.  He doesn’t want to tell Shay the truth, but by being with her will put both of their lives in jeopardy with an enemy that is willing to do anything to get their hands on this dangerous toxin.

Ford and Shay had so much sexual chemistry that you could feel the heat coming off the pages.  She liked him because he seemed like the perfect guy by being sweet, caring, and always seemed to lend a hand when she needed it.  Ford fell for Shay hard because she seemed to be a honest woman that was smart, tough and could stand on her own two feet.  They were a great couple together but Shay had been hurt before by a guy that lied to her and Ford was hiding his true occupation to protect her and see if she knew anything about the toxin.  I could tell that it was eating at him but he did what he had to do to protect his team and prevent the possibility of a national disaster.

This is the first book in the Bad Boys Undercover series and I have to say that I’m hooked.  Playing Dirty was a well-written, entertaining story filled with sexy heroes that kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m hoping that the rest of the series will showcase the other members of Ford’s group because I can’t wait to see what is up next for these fearless men.
