SERIES #: Animal Magnetism #7

AUTHOR: Jill Shalvis
PUBLICATION DATE: October 6, 2015

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From the “awesomely, incredibly talented”* New York Times bestselling author of Still the One, comes a sexy new Animal Magnetism novel set in Sunshine, Idaho, where the sky is the limit when it comes to love.
Pilot-for-hire Zoe Stone is happy to call Sunshine, Idaho, her home base. But her quiet life is thrown for a loop when her brother’s friend Parker comes to stay with her for a week. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife special agent is a handsome flirt with a gift for getting under her skin. And the situation only escalates when Parker hires her to fly him around the area while he collects evidence on a suspected smuggler.
Now she has to live and work with the guy. But when they’re in the air, she sees another side of him. He’s driven, focused, and sharp. And while he enjoys giving commentary on her blind dates, she quickly realizes with a shock that it’s Parker who gets her engines going

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts How to make a good first impression: Kiss the next person that walks up to your door.
I think Zoe needs to not take advice from her sister Darcy. Or maybe she should take more advice from her.
This was a fun book. I loved Parker. He is all rough and tough but a sucker for big eyes, tears and little animals. He is also sneaky, handy and really easy on the eyes. Therefore it make him the perfect person for Zoe.
Zoe “I got this” Stone is one tough nut to crack. She does make things a little hard on Parker (but for good reason). But these two together were great. *wink, wink*
I loved Oreo and Bonnie and Clyde.
As always Jill writes a story that leaves me wanting to read more about her characters. I am so happy that Zoe finally found her match. I can’t wait to see what Jill has in store for us next!!!

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts I loved this story. We met Zoe a few books back that gave us some insight into who Zoe is. Zoe is strong and independent. She loves her siblings with her heart. Her family, home and job are her whole life and mostly she is fine with that. But when Wyatt and Darcy fall in love Zoe is left with empty nest syndrome in her own way so in this story she decides to find love… oh ok maybe just lust… either will work.

In walks Parker, literally. Parker is good friends with Wyatt and Zoe offers him a place to stay while he is in town for vacation but Parker is there for more than that. But what he ends up with is everything he never knew he wanted.

Parker is perfect for Zoe. Somehow he clicks into her weird way of living and figures a way around her idiosyncrasies. He feels an immediate need to right her world for her and I love the way he goes about it. I fell a little in love with Parker within the first chapter of meeting him and fell deeper with every chapter after that. The only thing I would have changed about the book is having Zoe going on more blind dates and having Parker comment on all of them. His sense of humor is great and would have been great if he made comments about each of them but that being said this book is almost perfect.

And Oreo is a delight and when Bonnie and Clyde join the mix the Animal Magnetism kicks it up a notch.

sinners steelTITLE: Sinner’s Steel
SERIES #: Sinner’s Tribe Motorcycle Club #3
CHARACTERS: Main Characters
AUTHOR: Sarah Castille
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/06/15
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
HE’S HELL ON WHEELS.
Tall, dark, and dangerously handsome, Zane “Tracker” Colter is the strong, silent type of tattooed muscle biker who drives women wild. But as a master of strategy for the outlaw MC club, Sinner’s Tribe, he doesn’t have time to play around with groupies and biker chicks-especially when he can’t stop thinking about Evie, the girl who got away…

SHE’S PLAYING WITH FIRE.
Evie’s been in love with Zane ever since they were children-until he broke her heart and disappeared. Now he’s back in her life, bigger and badder than ever. Zane is stunned by how beautiful and confident Evie’s become, using her artistic talent to customize motorcycles. He wants her so bad, he’d ride through fire to win her back. There’s one problem: Evie is dating his deadliest rival-the leader of the Black Jacks-and if Evie and Zane hook up, there’ll be hell to pay…

REVIEW:
I am truly on the fence with this book. It was good but I had a hard time with the characters. First I really do not like how violent this MC is. And I know books like this are becoming more popular, I guess from shows like Sons of Anarchy, but I just don’t want the darkness of unneeded violence. Fans of romance all like the hot guy on a motorcycle but they usually have a good heart and while I guess Zane does too his use of violence is just too much for me.

I also never really felt the connection between Evie and Zane. Zane is this big bad biker dude and yet when it comes to Evie he turns 16 again. And Evie has kept a secret from him for years, even though she supposedly couldn’t find him, and he just says ok?

It is just not my cup of tea.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Terror claws into the lives of an American family…

On a quiet night in their tranquil suburban home, the Fulton family awakens to a nightmare. Four armed men force bank manager Dan Fulton to steal a quarter million dollars from his branch—strapping remote-detonation bombs on him, his wife, Lori, and their young son.

A relentless reporter discovers an agonizing secret…

The FBI moves swiftly with a major investigation while Kate Page, a reporter with a newswire service, digs deep into the story. In the wake of the Fulton family’s abduction, questions emerge, including one of the most troubling: is the case linked to Lori Fulton’s tragic past?

Time ticks down on a chilling plan…

Working as fast as they can, Kate and the investigators inch closer to a devastating truth—it’s not only the Fultons’ lives at stake, but thousands of others…and every second counts in the race to save them.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts We have seen stories like this in the headlines. Luckily not often but we have seen them. High end bank employee’s family is threatened and the banker is told to go to the bank and get money or the family dies. It is like it is ripped from the headlines. But there is more to the story then just that.

Rick Mofina is really great at drawing you into the suspense of his thrillers. But there is always more to his stories then just the obvious. In this case the wife’s past has a little bit to do with what is happening too.

This is the third in the Kate Page series and she is tenacious and once she sinks her teeth into something she doesn’t let it go. With this story she is pulled in almost immediately. And she is going to find out all she can to help this family.

I enjoy the novels of Mofina. His stories have a little bit of everything. Suspense, thrills, a bit of a scare and so much more.

SERIES #: Demonica #11.7
CHARACTERS: Raze, Slake & Fayle
AUTHOR: Larissa Ione
PUBLICATION DATE: September 14, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
As a Seminus demon, Raze’s life literally depends on having sex with females. The problem is that he doesn’t desire females, and it’s physically impossible for him to be with males. Thankfully, he and his best friend, Fayle, have an arrangement that keeps him alive . . . if lonely. He finds some solace in his work as a medic at Thirst, a vampire club known for its rough clientele. But his carefully structured world turns upside down when he meets a mysterious male who makes him want what he can never have.

Slake is an assassin used to getting what he wants, and what he wants is Raze. But he also wants to earn back the soul he sold when he was a much different demon. All he has to do is capture a runaway succubus named Fayle and hand her over to her family. What he doesn’t count on is being caught himself by a web of lies—and his attraction to Raze.

Raze and Slake must navigate a dangerous world to be together. But as Fayle’s jealousy of their relationship turns deadly, they find themselves embroiled in a battle not only for their love, but their lives and souls.

REVIEW:
This was a very quick read, but fabulous! I love the Demonica series and have ready every single one of Larissa Ione’s books. She is an amazing writer and creates such touching characters – I have fallen in love with all of them. Even the not-so-nice ones! This story was no exception. Slake and Raze are great individually and so much more fun together! As with all her series, Ione gave us adequate page time for our all time favorite characters from books past. It’s a big family of a universe and I’m so happy that we get to stay connected to everyone in each installment. You never get bored; you just fall more in love with each page. Read this story alone or as a dedicated fan – you will never be disappointed!

The SEVEN SERIES
About the Author:
This is the segment where you learn a little more about who I am, so here’s what I can tell you:  I drink copious amounts of vitamin water placed precariously close to my laptop while writing. These are two healthy habits I have no intention of breaking. I’m a transplant living in the south, but I was born in the 70’s to a military dad who moved us around the world.
When I’m not writing (which is all the time), I’m hunting down Indie music, watching movies, reading, eating Tex-Mex, discovering new ways to humiliate myself bowling, and burning up my laptop battery on the Internet. I have a relaxed, easy-going personality and don’t like drama. I live with a cat who thinks she is a dog, or a goat (she eats plastic, so I’m not sure which).
Throughout my life, I’ve had insomnia. Counting sheep never worked and eventually I would imagine those sheep were the sole source of food after an apocalyptic battle where only thousands survived. I made up stories in a futile attempt to bore myself to sleep. The problem was, I got so wrapped up in my “head stories” that I would continue them through the following nights, changing it up each time to make it more exciting. Eventually, I started writing my ideas down – creating short stories, and then I discovered my love for poetry.
It’s almost embarrassing how many spiral notebooks and stacks of paper I have of poetry and lyrics.
Another passion: digital art. I design all my book covers, marketing, and series art. I’m a very visual person and pursued photography as an avid hobby for many years.
I am not a YA author (I feel like I have to state this only because I’ve had a few people ask), but I think it’s wonderful there are so many books available to teens in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal.
I am finally doing what I have always wanted to do: giving my characters a pulse through writing full time. I focus on adult urban fantasy romance, but I don’t like labels and I enjoy blending genres to break out of the confines of predictability.
But it’s what I love to do.

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

With 1001 Dark Nights as the “producer,” Julie Kenner and Dee Davis use a television model with each week building on the last to create a storyline that fulfills the promise of a drama-filled soap opera. REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
Wowza!!!!  This is going to be a crazy ride.  Just like any good soap opera you find yourself sucked into the storyline, are wanting more and go through withdrawals when you are done with the current episode.

I really liked White Lighting and I am sure with each episode I will like each more and more as the story grows and we get hooked on characters. I don’t want to say too much because I want you to read this series.  I want you to discover who is doing who, who wants to hurt who and who is the Sammy Brady of the group (Yes, I was a Days of our Life fan back when I had time for day time tv).  I do really hope that by the end of these episodes (how ever many season we go) that there will be happy endings.

Until the next time I get to read my stories I leave you with this.  Watch your back, watch who you sleep with and never, ever trust the person that says “trust me”.

Find your next red-hot read in this sizzling collection of paranormal romance scenes, featuring werewolves, dragons, vampires, witches, psychics, angels, goblins, aliens, a succubus, and sexy cowboy shifters. Your favorite authors (including New York Times and USA Today best-sellers as well as rising stars) share the steamiest scenes from their latest works!

REVIEW:
This collection of scenes from various authors is such a great idea! We get scenes from 15 different authors in one book! Not only do we get to read incredibly HOT interactions with main characters from a variety of different stories and genres – but we also get a glimpse into what these stories are about! I for one know that after reading some of these scenes I will be going out to look for more work from these authors. However, I have to admit I’m a little biased – this collection contains stories from two of my all time favorite authors – Kallysten and Elianne Adams. If for nothing else, pick this book up and read the work of these two fabulous authors. You won’t regret it, and then you’ll go and pick up everything else they’ve ever written!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Don’t ever cross his palm with silver.
He will reveal your most shameful secrets.
He will predict your death.
He is hiding a secret.
He is hiding a monster.
And all his predictions come true.

Investigating a series of chilling murders, Detective Jennifer Knight finds herself tracking a mysterious tarot card reader known only as The Raven.

As the death toll rises, Jennifer and her team build a picture of a serial killer on the edge of sanity, driven by dark forces. But these are not random killings. And the method behind the madness could be the most terrifying thing of all …

Especially when it seems the death of one of their own is on the cards.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This is the second in a series but to be honest I didn’t know that when I picked it up. I would say you can read it has a stand alone but I do feel like the first book probably gave some insight into Jennifer that would have helped enjoy this book more. But either way it can be enjoyed.

Jennifer has a psychic ability that she uses to help her solve crimes. I get the impression in the first book that by the end she was courted by Operation Moonlight because she is working for them in this book. Operation Moonlight works supernatural cases. Jennifer is a bit hard nosed with OCD and
strong willed.

This is a British crime drama that is very interesting. I found it to be sort of like the Krewe of Hunters series from Heather Graham with the bit of supernatural with a lot of suspense. I think you will be captivated by this story. But I might suggest you start with the first one just for the background.

Winter Romance Wednesday! Kelly & Kimberly review Marry Me At Christmas by Susan Mallery

marry me at christmasTITLE: Marry Me at Christmas
SERIES #: Fools Gold #19
CHARACTERS: Jonny Blaze & Madelin Krug
AUTHOR: Susan Mallery
PUBLICATION DATE: September 29, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Wish upon a Christmas star with New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery’s sparkling Fool’s Gold romance!

To bridal boutique owner Madeline Krug, organizing a Christmas wedding sounds like a joy—until she finds out she’ll be working closely with the gorgeous brother of the bride, movie star Jonny Blaze. How will a small-town girl like her keep from falling for the world’s sexiest guy? Especially with mistletoe lurking around every corner!

Jonny came to Fool’s Gold looking for normal, not for love. Happily-ever-after only happens in the movies. Still, nothing about this quirky town is quite what he expected, and “ordinary” Madeline is the most extraordinary woman he’s ever met. Refreshingly honest, disarmingly sweet. Achingly beautiful.

Planning the perfect wedding leads to candlelit dinners and strolls through snow-covered streets. And Madeline finds Jonny in real life even more captivating than her celebrity crush. But will the action star be brave enough to risk his heart and step into the role of a lifetime?

KELLY’S REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Another fun trip to Fool’s Gold. Like every trip to Fool’s Gold we find ourselves immersed into the life of the town folk. In Marry Me at Christmas we get to see how Madeline reacts when she comes face to face the her celebrity crush. It has been fun over the last few books to see how star struck she is. But I don’t think Madeline was ready for the man behind the action hero facide.
Jonny Blaze is use to people wanting him, but for all the wrong reasons. Being a superstar comes with it’s downfalls. But in Fool’s Gold everyone (well almost everyone) treats him as if he is just a person. When Jonny asks for help to plan his sister’s wedding he never in his wildest dream thought he would meet someone like Madeline. Now all he has to do is keep her arms lenght.
I always love my visits to Fool’s Gold. The character are always so much fun. One great thing about this series is that you can pick up any book and read them. You do not have to read these in order. So if you have not picked up a Fool’s Gold book go do it now 🙂
Until my next trip stay out of trouble Fool’s Gold.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
5 Hearts Fool’s Gold is my favorite (fictional) vacation spot and visiting at Christmas makes it even more special. The city comes alive with holiday activity. The snow falling makes you want to look out your own window to see the flakes. Even if you haven’t read the rest of the series (why the heck haven’t you?) you will be pulled right in and feel you are a part of the town. Mallery is one of today’s best contemporary romance writers and books like this prove why. Grab the book, sip some hot cocoa, curl up in a soft blanket and enjoy your visit to Fool’s Gold.

We have heard about Madeline’s movie boyfriend (come on you know we all have one) being Jonny. When he comes to town she is star struck but as she works with him he becomes real to her and her heart. Jonny expects to be treated like a movie star but at the same time would prefer to not be and he really gets his wish in Fool’s Gold. The connection between Madeline and Jonny is immediate. Maybe because we already know of her crush from this years summer books but watching it happen to Jonny is a lot of fun. I enjoyed the way Jonny is written so playfully. The scene with Gladys and Eddie at the first nativity meeting is priceless.

I loved the “easter eggs” in the story. Mallery asked her readers to give her items they wanted in the book and she choose some from all the suggestions. Usually the list is online about the time the book comes out but reading it early I didn’t have the list to search through but I could find some just by having them mentioned. I look forward to seeing the list and counting how many I actually figured out. Watch for those “easter eggs” hidden around the book.

Another wonderful visit to Fool’s Gold. Romance in winter is magical and having it take place in Fool’s Gold makes it even better. This book will certainly put you in the holiday mood. You will feel like breaking out the Christmas decorations in September.

SERIES #: Haven Point #3

ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Celebrate the magic of Christmas in Haven Point with New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne, where hope, home, and happily-ever-after are as close as your holiday stocking…

Christmas is the last thing Cole Barrett is thinking about this year. He’s barely hanging on trying to care for his two grieving children since his ex-wife died in a tragic accident. For the reclusive Cole, this is no time for gift-giving and celebration—and certainly not for a sunny-natured optimist to blow into his screwed-up life.

In the years since her cancer treatments, physician Devin Shaw has researched the curative powers of Lake Haven’s mineral waters. Unfortunately, the hot springs are on Barrett property, forcing Devin to strike a bargain with the ranch’s attractively gruff owner: she’ll give Cole’s children the magical Christmas they deserve, and Cole will allow her patients access to the springs. But can she work her holiday magic to heal the Barrett family’s battered hearts—and her own?

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts This is a sweet (sort of) holiday story. I say sort of because parts of it can be pretty heart wrenching. There is so much hurt in the lives of the characters that at times the story can be sad.

Cole is the father of two children whose mother (Cole’s ex) was killed in an accident and he is trying to raise them. He is estranged from his father,, who just moved back on to the property, and his sister has landed on his doorstep after running away from her husband because she is pregnant with twins that she believes he does not want. Plus he is a recovering alcoholic ex-con who can’t get past his own mistakes. Devon is totally the opposite. Devon sees the good in everyone. She had a hard life growing up but has come through it with flying colors, mostly. She is a fixer and Cole and his family are the ultimate fixer-upper. But how will it affect her heart?

As I said this is an enjoyable holiday story but I did have some issues with it. First the children do not talk like children. While the daughter is a little miss know-it-all she still is only 8 but she speaks like she is 15. The son who is only 6 speaks like he is either 10 or 2 depending on the circumstance. But that being said they are both cute children whom the reader ends up liking. The estranged father is a sad old man who I felt really bad for. And I really do not feel like we got a solid ending regarding him.

Cole is a bit of a hard person to like. He does warm up but he can be sweet to his children and sometimes to Devon but mostly he is a bit harsh. And finally, Devon. I liked her even when we met her in the last story about her sister. But I felt she was written a little wanting. She fell in love with the kids before Cole so it almost seems like he was a secondary thought to the children. She seemed a bit needy. Needing love and needing to help/fix the family.

Now all that being said and I did say a lot. I really liked the story. It is a wonderful little holiday story that will get you into the spirit. Sit back with a cup of cocoa and enjoy.
