A Casablanca Christmas ……. + a giveaway

CasaXmasTour-2015

Christmas is just around the corner and romance novelists Samantha Chase, Kim Redford and Terry Spear are here to help get you in the holiday spirit. We’ve asked them all to share which of their characters they’d spend the holidays with!

Samantha Chase (The Christmas Cottage/Ever After):
Hmm…I know we’re all about “The Christmas Cottage” right now, but if I had to pick between ALL of the characters I’ve ever written, I’d have to go with…the family from my new series The Shaughnessys. They are a very traditional family and are very close-knit and I think spending time with them and would be a hoot. They’re very eclectic and are pretty much scattered all over the US currently, but their Irish roots are very near and dear to them and they’re a lively group. They’d be a lot of fun to hang out with – and not just on the holidays!

Kim Redford (A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas):
I’d choose to spend the day with folks at Wildcat Bluff’s Christmas in the Country enjoying all the special festivities.

Terry Spear (A Silver Wolf Christmas):
Any of them. I usually get a similar question—who is your favorite character. But no way can I choose from among them. They all have their good sides and bad. They are all special in some way, all loveable, all sexy and fun. I loved CJ for wanting to return to family, the pack, even if it meant leaving his brothers. I loved how he loved Laurel and was doing everything he could to ensure she would stay with the pack. That he cared just as much about her sisters. That he wanted his brothers to stay there too. I loved how he was determined to help her find the truth about her aunt’s disappearance, even if it meant he might learn more bad news about his father.

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan’s Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her forties to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Teaching creative writing to students from elementary through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams motivated Samantha to take that step as well. Stay With Me (Montgomery Brothers book 3) hit the USA Today bestseller list upon its debut. Catering to the CEO was included in the romance bundle Loving the CEO, a five-book package that made the New York Times and the USA Today bestseller lists. In March 2013, The Christmas Cottage was nominated for two Indie Romance Convention Awards—Best Indie Romance Novella and Best Indie Contemporary Romance—while Samantha was nominated for Indie Author of the Year. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, blogging, playing Scrabble on Facebook, and spending time with her husband of twenty-four years and their two sons in North Carolina. Visit her at www.chasing-romance.com.

As Irina’s world crumbles around her, the perfect princess mask falls away and Viktor meets the sharp, passionate woman underneath. Their initial chemistry gives way to a deeper attraction when Irina begins to see the decency underneath Viktor’s gruff, tattooed exterior, despite his insistence that it doesn’t exist.

Their tendency to find themselves seminudeand in enclosed spaces is a source of amusement to her sister, Galina, but each of them knows of the deadly consequences if their relationship is brought to light. Winter Romance Wednesday! Kimberly reviews Home For Christmas by Lily Everett

Home for ChristmasTITLE: Home For Christmas
SERIES #: Sanctuary Island #4
CHARACTERS: Libby & Owen
AUTHOR: Lily Everett
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/06/15
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Tis the season for family and love…

At least it’s supposed to be. For Libby Leeds, however, the holiday season is just another reminder of things she’d rather forget. When she left Sanctuary Island as an orphaned child, she never thought she’d go back except in her dreams, dreams she’s kept alive by writing monthly column of her fictional small-town life, until her publisher sends her back home for the holidays.

Owen Shepard is a fallen hero, wounded in action rescuing three of his fellow soldiers, but after a whirlwind of media attention, all this charismatic Army Ranger wants is to get back on his feet and make it to Sanctuary Island to be with his daughter in time for Christmas. What he didn’t expect was to be put on a crash course with a columnist hiding her past. Will the magic of Sanctuary Island at Christmastime allow them to find healing together?

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts This is a very sweet holiday story. While a bit cliche’ it still brings you a feeling of warm and love while reading.

Owen is a wounded soldier. Libby is a writer who lives more in her imagination than reality and when she is forced to entertain him and his family for the holidays the romance begins.

Like I said the story is good even though typical of holiday romance. The couple of problems I had were the repeating of thoughts over and over. Owen told us at least 20 times how he had to get better to go back in the field. Libby equaled that with how much she didn’t have a loving family.

The one thing I really enjoyed about the story was the first chapter. It really showed the relationship that Libby was having with Owen even though she hadn’t met him yet. She had already started to fall for him just seeing his tv interview and I think we could feel her crush.

If you enjoy a sweet holiday romance you will enjoy this one.

Stop-At-Nothing---Graphic

Top 10 Favorite Romance Books

I’m a hopeless romantic and always have been, so trying to come up with a list of my Top 10 favorite romance novels was tough! There are so many AMAZING romance novels out there, regardless of whether you’re looking at some of the earliest ever written or those coming out as we speak. This list could’ve easily been a top 100! But here are just a few of my faves in no particular order:

1)     Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen – Is there anyone who doesn’t love this book??? So much awesome…

2)     Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë – Talk about love conquering all…

3)     Persuasion by Jane Austen –Woefully underrated but probably my favorite by Jane Austen.

4)     Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier – Arguably more a mystery than a romance, but still one of my all-time faves.

5)     The Golden Chronicles series by Patricia Veryan – My all-time favorite historical romance series. LOVE these books. Sadly, they’re out of print now, but you can still find used copies here and there.

6)     The Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian – My favorite paranormal romance series. I discovered it when I was home with pneumonia a few years ago and promptly became a Lara Adrian fan-girl. LOVE her writing. You should also check out her other series as well—they’re all fantastic!

7)     Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë – Tragic, sweeping romance with literary conventions at every turn. A scholar’s dream novel. What’s not to love?

8)     Shattered Past series and/or Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson – Cecy is one of my dearest friends, but I can say without bias that her work is incredible. Just be prepared to have your heart ripped out.

9)     Emily of New Moon series by L.M. Montgomery – This series will always be dear to me. I was twelve years old when we moved across the country and a family friend gave me the Emily series as a gift. More a coming of age story than a true romance, but the romance thread between Emily and Teddy is there from the beginning and ties the novels together. It was the first time I got so angry with a character’s romantic decision that I threw a book across the room.

10)  The Oval Amulet by Lucy Cullyford Babbitt – I read this YA fantasy romance in high school in the early 90’s, but I still think about it from time to time, so I’d have to rank it as one of my all-time favorites. Definitely one I’d recommend reading if you can find it.

tracksTITLE: Tracks of Her Tears
SERIES #: Rogue Winter #1
CHARACTERS: Seth Harding & Carly Taylor
AUTHOR: Melinda Leigh
PUBLICATION DATE: November 10, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the first thrilling Rogue Winter Novella, sleepy little Solitude, Oregon, wakes up to another deadly threat.

County investigator Seth Harding intends to spend the holidays with his newly reconciled family, but a few days before Christmas, a homicide thwarts his plan. Seth arrives at the scene and makes a painful discovery: the victim is his brother-in-law’s girlfriend. Her apartment has been ransacked and her toddler left motherless. To make matters worse, Seth’s brother-in-law, Bruce, is missing. With Solitude locked in a rare, deadly deep freeze and the temperature plummeting, the residents launch a desperate search.

Seth calls his wife, social worker Carly Taylor, to take the case so the little girl doesn’t get lost in the foster care system. With the holidays near, Carly brings the child home with them to celebrate Christmas. But when the Taylor farm is also trashed, Seth and Carly must race against time—and against a paralyzing winter storm—to find Bruce and catch a killer in the first pulse-pounding sequel to the Rogue River Novellas.

REVIEW:
4.75 Hearts I was so excited when Ms. Leigh & Ms. Elliot announced that they were going to revisit the small town of Solitude, Oregon. If you have not checked out the first four novella’s in the Rogue River series you should.
In Tracks of Her Tears we get to re-visit Seth & Carly. I loved them the first time around and love them even more after this novella. Seth is back to work and his first case is a murder of a young woman. Sadly, this is a young woman that Seth knows.
This story is full of twists and turns. Just when you think you have it all figured out Ms. Leigh throws another bone at you and your re-think your thinking. Thank you for revisiting this world. It freaks me out a bit how creepy and suspense authors mind works. But I can’t wait to see what is next!!!!!

25101899TITLE: The Single Undead Moms Club

CHARACTERS: Wade , Finn & Libby Stratton
AUTHOR: Molly Harper
NARRATOR: Amanda Ronconi
RUN TIME: 9 Hours & 33 Minutes
PUBLICATION DATE: October 27, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | Audible | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the next book in Molly Harper’s Half Moon Hollow paranormal romance series, Libby (a widow-turned-vampire) struggles with her transition, and finds out it sucks to be the only vampire member of the PTA…

Widow Libby Stratton arranged to be turned into a vampire after she was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had, but she was desperate—she’s not about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws.

On top of post-turning transition issues, like being ignored at PTA meetings and other mothers rejecting her son’s invitations for sleepovers, Libby must deal with her father-in-law’s attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade—a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night—and the return of her sire, who hasn’t stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her.

With the help of her new vampire circle, Libby negotiates this unfamiliar quagmire of legal troubles, parental duties, relationships, and, as always in Harper’s distinct, comedic novels, “characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews).

REVIEW:
4.75 Hearts As always Ms. Harper writes a story that sucks you in and makes you run that emotional gauntlet. The combination of Ms. Harper’s witt & amazing storytelling combined with Amanda Conconi’s voice & talent at bring characters to life left me wishing I could move to Half Moon Hollow yet again. This is a winning combo!!!
I always love to visit Half Moon Hollow. I just love this town and the characters. I loved that In The Single Undead Moms Club we get to see how the town folk of HMH deal with the newest vampire in town. Needless to say they didn’t take it very well.
I loved Libby. Libby is such a fun character and she is great with her son. I loved that she wouldn’t let Dick hug her (I was dying laughing, poor Dick). I really liked Wade even when he was being a huge brat about the supply closet. Oh and don’t forget the epic back to school supply showdown. I really like Wade & Libby together. So much so that when I got to the end of the story I looked at my audiobook and yelled “You are not done, keep reading. Amanda why did you stop reading!!!!!”.
Finn, what can I tell you about Finn. Other then he made me really wish I could stab him with a fork.
I really can’t wait to see what is next in this series!!!!

PUBLICATION DATE: 11/03/15

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A car astride the railway track as an express train approaches at high speed. In the front seat, a woman seemingly determined to end her life. In the back, her two young children are oblivious to the impending disaster.

For talented young heart surgeon, Sam Becker, his heroic actions to save the family mark the beginning of a nightmare. A nightmare that will rip open old wounds, bring him face to face with ghosts from the past, and endanger those he cares for the most.

A nightmare linked to the brutal murder of his sister, fifteen years ago.

A fast-paced suspense thriller, Someone to Save You follows in the tradition of writers such as Linwood Barclay, Harlan Coben and Nicci French.

REVIEW:
This is a quick read that isn’t a real brain teaser but at the same time keeps your interest. This is a re-release from recently. I am not sure if it just didn’t do as well as the publisher wanted but it seems weird to re-release already. Now that being said this would make a good quick read for someone who enjoys thrillers without a lot of suspense.

The writing style is a bit different for me. While I enjoy thrillers I want to be absorbed in it and hopefully not figure it out until the end. I can’t say that is what happened with this one and yet I would recommend it. However if you are looking for deep-thinking and edge of your seat suspense this might not be what you want to pick up.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Featuring brand new short fiction from USA Today Bestseller Jaye Wells

Here, every day is Halloween, and the tricks and treats are endless. This collection of three supernatural tales is sure to give you lots of chills and thrills.

THE WEREWIFE: One week after she is bitten by the dog-faced boy at a traveling carnival, a mild-mannered housewife gets a sudden, unrelenting craving for raw meat. She doesn’t remember eating the cat or running naked through the park under the full moon, but her husband’s getting strange calls from concerned neighbors. When he takes her back to the carnival a year later, looking for a cure, it’ll either get better…or a whole lot worse.

THE BLUEST HOUR: A journalist travels to New Orleans to track down the mysterious “Soul Singers”–psychopomps who guide spirits into the afterlife. In this city known for music and its connection to death, a man can learn things he’s not ready to know.

THE DEADLINE: An ambitious journalist opens an investigation into the decade’s old murder of a priest and a nun at a local Catholic college. She swears she’ll do anything to earn her big break, but the price could be her very soul.

REVIEW:
3.75 Heart The Werewife: What happens when you have an unhappy marriage, then you add in a little furry murder you get a lot of mayhem and two even more unhappy people. This was a fun little story. I was not sure who I liked and disliked more Brad (husband) or Annie (wife). They both were kinda asshats. But I did enjoy the ending. And I want to know more. I want to know what happened to Brad and Annie. Maybe Ms. Wells will revisit these two in the future.
The Bluest Hour: hhmmmm, I am not sure about this one. I was kinda confused as to what was happening. I think I need to re-read this one.

The Deadline: Oh man!!! This story is creepy and I wanted more.I didn’t want this story to be so short. I wanted to know what happens next. I want to know what happens to Sarah.

We are thrilled to bring you the Release Day Launch for Lisa Mondello’s WEATHER THE STORM! WEATHER THE STORM is Episode 7 in the Rising Storm Series brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights. It’s out today! Grab your copy of the latest episode and pre-order next week’s episode while you’re there!

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy…

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

With 1001 Dark Nights as the “producer,” Julie Kenner and Dee Davis use a television model with each week building on the last to create a storyline that fulfills the promise of a drama-filled soap opera. Joining Kenner and Davis in the “writer’s room” is an incredible group of New York Times bestselling authors such as Lexi Blake, Elisabeth Naughton, Larissa Ione, Rebecca Zanetti and Lisa Mondello who have brought their vision of Storm to life.

A serial soap opera containing eight episodes in season one, the season premiere of Rising Storm, TEMPEST RISING, debuted September 24th with each subsequent episode releasing consecutively this fall.

So get ready. The storm is coming.

Again another interesting episode.   I think that this was my least favorite.   And not because it was a bad story, but I just didn’t really connect with Tara and Bryce.   It was nice to see some kind of happily ever after.

I did really enjoy the scene between Dakota and Sebastian.  Things are going to blow up in Storm and I believe that Dakota is going to be the ring leader.
