Viv Arend: next topic: the first time he sees her. Did Maddox know Ellie before?

Carrie Ann Ryan: Yes. The first time Maddox saw Ellie was when he was pulling her out of his brother’s arms. She was barely breathing and scared to death. Oh wait…WAS that the first time…?*wink*

Viv Arend: hahah, tricky! Tyler had no idea who Caroline was. Even suspected she might be a SPY.

Carrie Ann Ryan: Spies are fun.

Viv Arend: A spy with lovely…wet shirt. *ahem* Oh, those bears!

Carrie Ann Ryan: They are so cuddly though. Well, maybe not a FEW of those bears. But Tyler? Oh, yeah. I’m sure when he first saw her, spy and all, he wanted to *ahem…cuddle

Viv Arend: lol! Gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘bear hug’

Carrie Ann Ryan:*dreams of Tyler*…Okay I suppose I need to think more about my wolf, eh? Though really, Maddox has always made me swoon. Ellie too.

Viv Arend: I fall in love with everyone of my characters, and that’s just how it should be!

Carrie Ann Ryan: Totally. 🙂 It’s just getting those characters to fall in love with each OTHER that’s the hard part.

Maddox nodded silently and forced his gaze to North’s companion.

Ellie Reyes.

His mate.

Or, at least, his could-be mate. Wolves had a few potential mates out there, some more suited than others, so that didn’t mean when one found that potential they had to mate.

Maddox couldn’t mate Ellie. Though the mating urge had reared up and rode him hard, he hadn’t marked her, hadn’t mated her—despite how desperately he wanted to.

She wasn’t to be his.

His wolf nudged along the inside of his skin, whimpering but, as always, didn’t say anything.

Ellie stood by North’s side, that haunted look in her dark brown eyes reaching out to Maddox. He couldn’t feel her emotions though—just as he couldn’t feel North’s. It could have been considered a blessing, but Maddox was never sure.

He wanted to know what made her tick, what went on in that mind of hers. He wanted to be able to help her, even if he couldn’t bear to be near her.

North gave him a bland look, but Maddox could see his twin clench his jaw. Ellie stared at him as if she wanted him to say something, but he had no idea what.

“We’re already late, guys. We don’t want to be any later,” Cailin said over the rising tension.

Maddox shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts of the woman with dark eyes who could have been his and wasn’t.

A faint scent of human made him turn, but there was no one there. Only the door he’d left open behind him, and at the far side of the deck an open lounging area with a hot tub, the lid strangely askew.

Tyler raced forward, reached into the water and scooped up the limp body of a blonde woman. Her head had been resting on a drink holder, the only thing that had kept her from becoming completely submerged.

“Wake up, little mermaid.” Tyler cradled her against him. He nudged the door open and brought her inside, dripping wet, examining her face for a reaction. She was breathing, but shallowly. He lowered her onto the couch then pulled a handy throw blanket over her shivering torso. “Can you hear me?”
