BOOK SYNOPSIS:
He’s Getting Tired of Deception…

Baron Winslow Keating is honor-bound to finish one last mission as an elite spy for the Barbican group even though he just wants to go home and be with his family. But after years of secrecy and absence, his daughters hardly know him, and his wife has given up on him.

She Wants to Try a Little Intrigue…

Lady Elinor has had enough of domestic boredom. She contemplates an affair with a rakish spy, only to discover a world of intrigue and treachery that she never knew existed. Even more shocking, her neglectful husband is suddenly very attentive—quite the jealous type—and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew.

REVIEW:
Winslow has been keeping secrets from his family. Secrets that he must keep. But when his wife starts pulling away, Winn has but one choice and tell her the truth. Elinor’s response is not at all what Winn had expected.

This was my first book in this series. I enjoyed the story and the characters but it didn’t wow me. I so want to go back and read book one because I really enjoyed the characters that will be in the book. Also Blue, his story should be fun.

Interview with Shana Galen

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Shana Galen to the blog.   We are chatting about her best piece of advice and her newest release Love and Let Spy (Lord and Lady Spy)

Color Shana Galen H-R-2118 (1)Shana it is always good to have you on the blog.  For those who don’t know you can you please share with us a little about yourself

I’m a wife, a mom, and a former English teacher. I’ve been writing fulltime for the last 5 years, and I’ve published almost twenty books.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not at all. I used to want to be an opera singer. I never really thought about authors or where books came from. It didn’t occur to me until after I’d been teaching English for a couple of years, that people wrote these novels and that was their job. Seemed like a good job to me!

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I have to walk around a lot in order to think while I’m writing.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?9781402291739-PR

Love and Let Spy is basically James Bond, except James is Jane.  She’s the best spy the Crown has to offer, and she’s single-minded when it comes to completing missions. But she doesn’t count on meeting Dominic Griffyn. He’s not the typical Bond love interest. He’s dark and complex, and I think he’s as interesting a character as Jane.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

All of the books in this series are based on iconic spy movies—Mr. and Mrs. Smith, True Lies, and of course I had to include James Bond. He’s the spy we all know and love. But I wanted to make my Bond different, so I made James a Jane and explored what Bond might be like as a woman in the Regency era.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I have a new series coming out in January, and it follows a group of thieves and their intersection with a noble family in London. The first is a novella titled The Viscount of Vice, and it’s about a viscount with a bad reputation who has the chance to redeem himself. The first book is out in February, and it’s Earls Just Want to Have Fun. It’s about the head of the Derring family, the Earl of Dane, and what happens when he meets a female thief who challenges everything he thinks and knows.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

Honestly, I’ve met every author I really wanted to meet at this point. I’ve been writing seriously since 2000, so I’ve had the chance to go to many conferences and conventions. The only author I hadn’t met that I wanted to meet was Julie Garwood, and I finally met her in Kansas City at the RT 2013 convention.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

I always give the same advice, the advice of the indomitable Winston Chruchill: “Never, never, never give up.”

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

I want to spend a month living, touring, and working in the UK when my daughter is a bit older and can come with me.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I want to read Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo and The One by Kiera Cass. They are waiting for me to get ahead on my work, so I have time to read.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I just want to thank my readers for embracing this series. It was originally intended to be one book, but due to reader support, I’ve written three books and a novella in the series. Thank you!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
She Wants Him…

She Wants Him Not…

Lily Dawson, dubbed the Countess of Charm by the Prince Regent himself, plays the role of the courtesan flawlessly while her real purpose is spying in the service of the Crown. Her mission now is to seduce a duke to test his true loyalties. She’ll do it, even though the man she really wants is Andrew Booth-Payne, Earl of Darlington—the duke’s son.

Andrew is furious when he finds himself rivaling his father for Lily’s attention. When he uncovers Lily’s mission, Andrew is faced with impossible choices. It seems he is destined to betray either his family, his country, or the longings of his own heart.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This was my first book in this series and while I think it might have be helpful to read the first to books first. I didn’t feel lost, but the main characters in this book do have a bit of a history that I am guessing we would see in the first two books.

I liked this book but didn’t love. I really liked Lily. She is feisty, independent, determined and not afraid to speak her mind. But Lily does have a few secrets in her past and those secrets for every changed her future. Andrew on the other hand was a bit of an asshat in the beginning. Although I did really enjoy that first kiss. Once these two came to an understanding everything was coming up roses. Or was it?

If you have read the first two books in the Jewels of the Ton series you will really enjoy Andrew & Lily’s story. If you are new to this series I would suggest you give this series and these Jewels a chance at their second chance at life and love.

Interview & Giveaway with Shana Galen

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Shana Galen to the blog.

Shana, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Sure! First of all, thank you for having me. I’m so honored to be back. I’m a wife, a mother, and the author of more than a dozen fast-paced, adventurous historical romances. I love writing about daring women and dangerous men.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not at all. When I was in high school, I wanted to be an opera singer. I still kind of wish that had panned out. Then once I hit college and realized I was not going to be a world renowned opera singer, I decided to be a psychologist. But that would have meant listening to people’s problems all day. So I became a teacher. Why I thought that didn’t mean listening to problems all day, I’ll never know, but I was a teacher for 11 years, and I started writing during that time. I’d always had stories in my head, and I guess after years of teaching students how to write, I wanted to give it a go myself.

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?

I’m definitely a punster. I can certainly plot, but if I plot a book, I never follow that plan. It’s like I worry I can’t write a good book if I try to figure t out beforehand.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I have to write in order. And the first thing is title, and then character names. I can’t keep going if those aren’t right.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?Sapphires Are an Earl's Best Friend Cover

Sapphires Are an Earl’s Best Friend is about Lily Dalton. She’s a renowned courtesan, who’s been dubbed The Countess of Charm by the Prince Regent. In reality, she’s a spy for the Crown, and she’s been asked to investigate a powerful duke, who’s suspected of ordering the Crown’s best agents killed. The problem is the duke is the father of Lord Darlington, the man she’s been in love with for years, and the man who’s been in love with her best friend for years.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I think this story is sort of a Fantine from Les Miserable meets Charlie’s Angels. Lily has had a hard life, but she’s been able to make something of herself. Now she’s in danger of losing all of that, and she’s left with very few choices. When a character is put in a situation that’s practically impossible, a story becomes very interesting to me.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Yes, right now I’m working on the first book in a new series, which releases in February 2015. It’s called Scandalous in Satin, and it’s about a thief who becomes involved with an earl. It’s lots of fun.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I always wanted to meet Julie Garwood because I love her books, and they were what inspired me to become a writer. I was able to meet her last year at the RT Convention in Kansas City.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Write. Don’t talk about writing. Don’t read about writing. You learn by doing.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

I’d love to take my daughter to England when she’s a bit older (she’s 4). I would love to share a place that’s been so fascinating to me with her.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

There are too many to mention, and I’m afraid I forget a friend of hurt feelings. My TBR pile is very tall, and my To-Buy list is super long.

What is one book everyone should read before they die?

The Bible.

What is your favorite time of year & why?

Spring. It’s not too hot or too cold in Houston.

Who is your Celebrity crush?  And what would you do if you ever meet them?

Flynn Rider from Tangled. I met him at Disney World recently, and I was too flustered to say anything.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes! Right now I have a really fun pre-order event going on, but this is the last day. If you pre-order Sapphires Are an Earl’s Best Friend and send proof to Casablanca@sourcebooks.com TODAY, February 28, you’ll receive a Jewels of the Ton themed gift of tea and candy plus an epilogue that’s not in the book. Interview & Giveaway with Shana Galen

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Shana Galen to the blog.

Shana Galen PhotoCan you please share with us a little about yourself
SG: Of course! Thanks for having me back. I write adventurous historical romances set in the Regency period and featuring spies, pirates, courtesans, and the like. I live in Houston, Texas, and I write full time. I live with my husband, two cats, and my daughter.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

SG: I didn’t know that author was a profession until I was about 28. Even then I never thought of writing books for a living (and it was a good thing I didn’t expect that!). I did always have stories to tell, stories in my mind that needed to get out. If you don’t believe me, ask my little sister. I used to make her stay awake and listen to my stories when we were kids and shared a room.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
SG: In the historical genre, I read Anna Campbell, Vanessa Kelly, Kate Noble, Robyn DeHart, Margo Maguire, Sophie Jordan, Kieran Kramer, Erin Knightley, Katharine Ashe, Theresa Romain, Miranda Neville, and Sarah MacLean. Contemporary favorites are Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Nora Roberts, and Tera Lynn Childs. Marsha Canham, Joanna Bourne, and Julie Garwood have really been the largest influences on y writing style.

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?
SG: Oh, I blame it on Julie Garwood. I picked up one of her historicals and had to read them all. When I finished, I didn’t know what else to read, so I wrote my own. Yes, I would like to write in other genres, but right now I don’t have much time since I have a young child, plus I have a lot of historical books contracted.

What are some of your writing rituals?
SG: I like to write early in the day. I have difficulty focusing in the evening. If I can sit down at my computer when it’s still dark outside, sip some coffee, and write a thousand words before everyone wakes up, I’m happy.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?
SG:  TRUE SPIES is the second in the Lord and Lady Spy series. It’s about Winn and Elinor, who are married but estranged. Winn is a spy, and Elinor has no idea of his secret identity. If it sounds a bit like the movie True Lies, that was the inspiration.

How did you come with the idea for this story?
SG: Readers asked for another book in the Lord and Lady Spy series, so I started re-watching some of my favorite spy movies, and I knew True Spies was one that would translate well to the Regency period.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
SG: I’m actually writing the third in the Lord and Lady Spy series, LOVE AND LET SPY. It’s a nod to the James Bond films, except the heroine is Jane Bonde.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

SG: Here you go. In this scene Winn (Baron) is consulting with Adrian, the hero from LORD AND LADY SPY, about what to do about Elinor.

Baron raised his brows, looking skeptical.

“All you have to do is talk to her.” There. Adrian folded his arms across his chest. He felt rather proud of himself, actually. Sophia wasn’t the only one who could be sympathetic or solve others’ personal problems.

“Talk to her?” Baron said, sounding less than enthusiastic about Adrian’s advice. “And tell her what? I overheard her chatting about bedding another man?”

“I don’t know that I’d take that tack…”

“Oh, perhaps I should reveal I’m a member of the Barbican group. Even if I hadn’t pledged to keep that a secret, I can imagine her reaction when she realizes I’ve been lying to her for years.”

“Yes, well—”

“Or how about this idea? I go find this Rafe and beat the hell out of him…”

What would you be if you were not an author?

SG: A frustrated author. I’d have all these stories in my head, driving me nuts.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

SG: I was asked to read an advance copy of Vanessa Kelly’s SECRETS FOR SEDUCING A ROYAL BODYGUARD. I cannot wait to get to it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

SG: Thank you so much for having me again!

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not at all. I wanted to be an opera singer and a psychologist and half a dozen other professions over the years. I don’t think I realized “author” was a profession. I did always love to tell stories.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

A typical writing day has me up early (like 4 a.m. ) and at my computer working. My daughter gets up about 6:30, and then I spend most of the day with her. In the evening, I’m back at the computer. I definitely try to send some time with my husband too. I have to have silence to write. There’s nothing I have to have. I can work through anything. I do prefer silence, a Diet Dr. Pepper, and a box of Milkduds, but the days when I have any or all of that are few and far between.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

The most challenging part is finding the time to write. The most rewarding part is when a reader tells me she enjoyed one of my books.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?spy wore blue-300

The Spy Wore Blue is a digital novella. Please don’t buy it thinking it’s a full-length book. That said, I really do give the reader a complete love story. This one is about Blue, a spy I introduced in Lord and Lady Spy. He’s in Naples looking for an assassin. While he’s there he has to work with his estranged wife. She’s an opera singer (wonder where that idea came from, right?), and during the course of Blue’s investigation she becomes a target of the assassin.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I never envisioned Blue as a hero, but my readers kept asking for his story. I didn’t think I could write a 90K book for him, so I proposed writing a novella. Turns out I probably could have written a 90K book for him, but I really enjoyed writing the novella. It was a fun length and challenging for me to complete in a way I thought would satisfy readers. So I didn’t actually come up with the idea for the book, my readers did. I had to figure out the plot, though. That’s always the way of things!

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

Absolutely! I’m working on the third Lord and Lady Spy book, Love and Let Spy. It will conclude Adrian and Sophia’s story from Lord and Lady Spy and True Spies, and it introduces a new couple.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Marsha Canham, Julie Garwood, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Kiera Cass, and JD Robb.

Lord and Lady Spy - SelectedDo you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

I’m the most inspired by Marsha Canham and Julie Garwood. I could never write as well as either of them, but I definitely aim for the bar they’ve set with each novel I’ve written. JD Robb also inspires me. Not all of my heroines are tough, but when I write one, I like to channel a bit of Eve Dallas.

Open your book to a random page and please reads us a few lines. It’s an ebook, so I have to open the document…

“So not everyone finds you charming.”

His fingers stilled, and the coin appeared. Blue looked at her and smiled. “There are a few who still resist my charms.”

“God knows I was never one of them.” She didn’t know why she said as much. Perhaps because he had revealed something to her—information about this Maîtriser group—and she felt obliged to repay in kind. He rose now, and she took a step back.

“You can’t resist me?” he said quietly. She did not like the seductive tone in his voice.

“I’m certain I could now.”

He moved closer, and she felt the heat of him, felt the solidness of him. He was really here, in the flesh, his body all but touching hers. She felt a wave of dizziness at being this close to him.

“Shall we test that theory?”

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’m looking forward to Katharine Ashe’s I Married the Duke, The Ruin of a Rogue by Miranda Neville, Lily Dalton’s debut, Never Desire a Duke, and Theresa Romain’s first book with my publisher, Sourcebooks, It Takes Two to Tangle.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
