BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Keri Arthur, New York Times bestselling author of Fireborn, presents the thrilling new Souls of Fire Novel featuring Emberly Pearson, a phoenix that can transform into a human—and is haunted by the ability to foresee death….

Crimson Death, the plague like virus spawned from a failed government experiment to isolate the enzymes that make vampires immortal, continues to spread. Emberly and her partner, Jackson Miller, are desperately seeking the stolen research for a cure before the virus becomes a pandemic.

But their mission is jeopardized by another threat uncovered in Emberly’s prophetic dreams. A creature of ash and shadow has been unleashed on a murdering spree. Now Emberly must summon all her gifts and investigative knowledge to put an end to this entity’s brutal rampage—even if it means placing herself in harm’s way….

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Emberly is a strong female character lead – I enjoy her a lot. This book was another interesting installment in this new series and offered answers to lingering questions. I’m curious how the story line will continue from here, it’s going to be very exciting. There are lots of characters in this series, and sometimes they get mingled together, but they’re all intriguing and you want to see more of them. Emberly reminds me a lot of Keri’s heroine Riley Jensen – which is a big compliment, since I loved that series. I’ll keep following the series, I want to see what’s in store for these characters. It seems Emberly is destined for an eternity of heartbreak and my fingers are crossed she’ll find her happy lifetime! Keri Arthur writes very creative stories with characters you fall in love with, even if sometimes the complexity gets a little deep.

SECOND CHANCE SUMMER

Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .

The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . . .

Excerpt:

“So you going to tell me what’s wrong?”

“Other than I hate snakes and you saw me in my PJs? Nothing.” She lifted her chin and defied him to contradict her.

She should have known better. Like Ashley, he’d never met a challenge he didn’t face head-on.

He moved toward her, right into her personal space.

She took a step back and came up against the wall.

This didn’t stop him. He kept his forward momentum until they were toe to toe. And then while she was still standing there a little dumbfounded and also something else, something that felt uncomfortably close to sheer, unadulterated lust, he put his hands on the wall on either side of her head.

This both escalated her heart rate and stopped her lungs from operating. “Um—”

“You had your chance to tell me what’s wrong with you,” he said. “You passed. Now I’m going to tell you what’s wrong with me.”

Oh, God. Talking would be a bad idea. As for a good idea, she had only one, and before she could consider the consequences, she gripped his shirt, hauled him down, and kissed him.

He stilled for a single beat and then got on board quick, pulling her in, sinking a hand into her hair to tilt her head to the angle he wanted, and taking over the kiss.

The next thing she was aware of was the sound of her own aroused moan, and she jerked free.

The corner of his mouth quirked. “Did you just kiss me to shut me up?” he asked.

She blew out a sigh. “It made a lot more sense in my head.”

He grinned, one of those really great grins that made something low in her belly quiver. Needing some space, she pushed him, even though her instincts were telling her

to pull him in tighter instead of pushing him away.

“Back to what’s wrong with me,” he said, still looking amused. “It’s you.”

She opened her mouth to say something, but he set a finger against her lips. “My turn,” he said, and lowered his head and kissed her.

And oh. Oh, damn… There were some men who just knew how to kiss, the kind of kiss that could send a woman reeling. The kind of kiss that could take away problems and awareness and…and everything. The kind of kiss that could shatter her into a trillion little pieces. The kind of kiss that somehow both calmed her body and soul even as it wound her up for more.

Aidan was that kind of kisser. Shocking, really, to also realize that in between their first kiss all those years ago and now, that there’d been nothing like it for her.

Aidan pulled back a fraction of an inch, opened his eyes, and stared into hers.

She stared back because wow. Good. So damn good, and for one glorious moment there she’d let her lips cling to his, let the memories of him and all that he’d meant to

her wash over her.

And those memories had all been…epic.

Until the end.

Finding her sanity, she pushed him again. For a beat he didn’t move, just looked into her eyes.

And then, on his own terms, he stepped back.

She pointed at him. “That was…”

He arched a brow.

“Never mind what it was,” she said. “We aren’t going there.”

His smile was grim and utterly without mockery.

“Agreed.” But then he hauled her up to her toes and kissed her again.

And again.

RESCUE ME

Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. REVIEW:
Cider Ridge is the setting for Ms. Shalvis’ new series. We get introduced to the Kincaid family and their struggles to keep the family business afloat. In Second Chance Summer we focus on Aidan the second oldest of the Kincaid kids. There is nothing more important than family to Aidan. Except maybe the girl that broke his heart who just happens to be back in town. As we read we learn why family is so important and why some people are not. We also learn a lot about what Aidan is willing to do for love.
Lily is only back in town because she has not choice. If she had it her way she would have never stepped foot in this town again. But while there may be too many bad memories, Lily is about to find out that facing the past is the key to healing and having a bright future.
Loved it!! I love that we have a new series from Ms. Shalvis. I always love reading her books and getting engrossed into the world she has created. Loved Aidan. Everyone needs someone like Aidan in their life. Someone they know will drop everything for them and run to their rescue, even when they don’t think they need to be rescued.
Lily, she is was smart tough cookie that finally learns that it is okay to be rescued. I really liked the struggle that Lily went through in this book. I think that by the end she is a force to be reckoned with and the Kincaid kids need to watch out.
If you have read any of the Jill’s books in the past you will love this book too. She has all the drama, humor, witty characters, the is it time to grab a tissue and very yummy smexy time that you will find in all Jill’s books. If you have not read Jill yet, please refer to the previous sentence about “the drama, humor, witty characters, the is it time to grab a tissue and very yummy smexy time”. So in short: add this book to your read list!!!

Kelly reviews Commanded by Stacey Kennedy

SERIES #: Club Sin #6
CHARACTERS: Sawyer Quinn & Chloe Nash
AUTHOR: Stacey Kennedy
PUBLICATION DATE: July 7, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A dedicated cop, Sawyer Quinn blows off steam by immersing himself in his role as a Master at the hottest club in Las Vegas. But when Sawyer goes after the perp who brutally beat his sister, he teams up with Chloe Nash, a sexy private investigator who awakens a sweet new need: to keep her to himself, away from the dungeon of Club Sin. Chloe is beautiful, smart, and too innocent for the BDSM lifestyle. Sawyer’s never wanted a woman like this before. Is her love worth swearing off the one thing that keeps him sane?

There’s something different about Sawyer: a commanding strength that pulls Chloe into a vortex of heady desire. But when she learns about his double life as a Dom, she’s shocked—and afraid she could never complete him. Then he saves her life, and just like that, Chloe knows she will be able to give him anything he desires. She is his—wherever and however he wants to take her.

REVIEW:

Commanded opens with a major shock to the Quinn family. Sawyer’s little sister is attacked. But they can’t track down the accused. Sawyer turns to his pal Porter and Porter’s best private investigator. Who also happens to hold the star role in many of Sawyer’s recent fantasies, to bad Ms. Chloe Nash has a boyfriend…..
Another great story from Stacey. Sawyer and Chloe make a great copy. Chloe is the yin to Sawyers yang. I felt like Commanded took the whole Club Sin series to a new level. Yes, there was BDSM. Yes, there was a lot of sexy time. But we got to see a side to Sawyer that if his heroine had been anyone else we would have never seen. If you are a fan of this series you will enjoy this read. It is a quick read (one sitting for me). But a very enjoyable quick read.

SERIES #: Thunder Point #8
CHARACTERS: Ginger & Matt
AUTHOR: Robyn Carr
PUBLICATION DATE: 01/01/15

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Starting over is never easy, but in Thunder Point, where newcomers are welcome and friends become family, it’s possible to find yourself again. In this brand-new story, #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr takes us on a moving and rewarding journey as a young woman finds new hope.

After losing her child, Ginger Dysart was lost in grief. But since moving to Thunder Point, a small town on the Oregon coast, and with the help of her cousin Ray Anne, Ginger is finally moving forward. Her job at the flower shop is peaceful and fulfilling, and she’s excited to start her first big assignment, assisting with the Lacoumette wedding.

In spite of her lasting heartache, Ginger finds herself swept up in the pleasure of the occasion. But the beauty of the Lacoumette farm and the joy of the gregarious family are ruined by an unfortunate encounter with the bride’s brother, Matt. Struggling with painful memories of his own recent divorce, Matt makes a drunken spectacle of himself and Ginger when he tries to make a pass at her, forcing Ginger to flee the scene in embarrassment.

But when Matt shows up at the flower shop determined to make amends, what started out as a humiliating first meeting blossoms into something much deeper than either of them expected. Discovering they have a lot in common, they form a solid friendship, though everyone around them worries that Ginger will end up with a broken heart yet again. But if Ginger has the courage to embrace the future, and if Matt can finally learn to let go of the past, there may still be hope for a happy ending.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is the latest visit to Thunder Point and i have enjoyed every one of these visits. Thunder Point is a small town romance with all the sweetness that a small town can handle. Ginger and Matt both have a bunch of baggage and aren’t sure they will ever get over it but then Matt makes a drunken pass at Ginger that goes terribly wrong and yet it changes their life forever.

I enjoyed Ginger a lot. While she has been through a lot she still has a good head on her shoulders. She has a way of being down to earth and knowing what needs to be done to bring peace to her past and later to Matt’s. Matt is a good guy. His ex-wife did something that he is not sure can ever be forgiven but somehow Ginger makes him understand that hate isn’t about the other person but about what it does to yourself.

There are a lot of life lessons in this story surrounded by romance. I enjoyed the check ins with locals that we have met in the past. Any fan of small town romance will love this book and even more the series. This book can be a stand alone but not sure why you wouldn’t want to start from book one and visit Thunder Point over and over again.

Dive into Soul Scorched, the sizzling next novel in the Dark Kings series from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant

REVIEW:
Amazing!!!! Soul Scorched takes us back into the world of the Dragon Kings. And of course thing can just go right for them right now. At every turn they are battling the Dark Fae, Urlik and each other. The events in Night Blaze (if you haven’t read I will try to keep spoiler free) had you thinking that things were getting ready to turn maybe for the better. But in Soul Scorched everything takes a huge nose dive. Friends can’t be trusted, enemy can and not everyone is what they seem.
I will say I had a little bit of anxiety (okay a lot) while reading this book. There is so much going on. The Kings are all over the place. We get a cameo from the Warriors (which only makes things more tense) and of course… We get a few bread crumbs surrounding Rhi and her Dragon King. So many things are turned upside down in this book. UUUGGGGG!!! I wish that I could just poof into Ms. Grant’s brain and see the whole story, but sadly I don’t have that power. But until then keep reading…..

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is a new series for Jill Shalvis and I really enjoyed it. I will say that it did feel that this was more like the second in the series since Aidan’s older brother Gray is married to Penny and it feels like we missed their story but apparently not. That being said the rest was great.

The beginning took a little bit to get into because we are learning everything about a new town, people, etc. But once we get the lay of the land he story is good. Aidan is a really sweet guy and is a caregiver. He wants to take care of Lily but Lily doesn’t think she needs to be taken care of and certainly doesn’t feel like she deserves love. But fate is something that people can’t control.

There is never a bad story from Shalvis. She has a way of drawing you into the small towns she creates. I will say I miss that the town wasn’t Lucky Harbor but we all have to move to a new town at some point in our lives and we learn to enjoy it and that is how I feel about Cedar Ridge. It may take some time but I am sure I will love it just as much as Lucky Harbor. And I look forward to Kenzie’s story and even more so to Hudson’s story. And I really want to know what happened to Jacob.

AUTHOR: Susan Mallery
PUBLICATION DATE: June 30, 2015

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool’s Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart…

After Phoebe Kitzke’s kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool’s Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn’t exactly thrilled by the city girl’s arrival.

Thanks to his brother’s latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn’t fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she’s exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid.

In his arms, Phoebe discovers she’s a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can’t stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?

REVIEW:
As with all my visits to Fool’s Gold I am so glad to be back but so sad when it is time for me to leave again.
Kiss Me takes us to a different part of Fool’s Gold we are on the very outskirts of town. At Nicholson Ranch. And of course every good ranch has to have it’s own hunky, brooding, Adam Levine (Swoon) look a like pain in the butt, I am a rock cowboy who is just waiting to be recused. Okay, so many Zane isn’t waiting to be rescued. Boy is stubborn as the day is long. But when Ms. Phoebe shows up all of Zane’s I am fine, I am tough, I need no one shields all start grumbling down.
Phoebe Kitzke has been having a run of bad luck, first her ex, then her boss, then the threat of losing her livelihood. So when her best friend offers her a week of wide open spaces Phoebe jumps at the chance for a little R&R. Hehehe. R&R…Not on Nicholson Ranch.
I loved Kiss Me. Zane and Phoebe are great together. There were a lot of sub stories going on in Kiss Me. But I didn’t feel like any of them took away from Zane and Phoebe’s story. I will say that Zane better watch out because I think Manny might give him a run for Phoebe’s affection.
Can’t wait for my next visit to Fool’s Gold.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The moment Presley Mackenzie walks into her kitchen only to find her boyfriend in a sweaty encounter with another woman on her kitchen counter, she vows to give up men forever. Between her testosterone-heavy day job in the gaming world, her broken heart, and her need to grow into her own shoes, dating just isn’t important.

Mason Sutton not only just got dumped by the woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, but now he finds himself healing beside the woman his brother cheated on. He’s spent his entire life living in his brother’s shadow only to find himself wanting the one woman he can’t have.

As Presley and Mason soothe each other’s hurts, they find themselves falling for each other even as they fight it. But as they learn to forgive and fall in love, their pasts come back to haunt them and the future they thought they could have starts to crumble before it can take hold.

REVIEW:
Finally Found You was a quick, sweet and steamy read, therefore my review will be short and sweet too. As always Ms. Ryan writes a story that tugs at your heartstrings. I really enjoyed Mason & Presley’s story. They are so perfect for each other. How can you not love a couple that plays strip video games 🙂 I didn’t want their story to end. I want to know what happens next with these two. And I really would love to see that slimeball Trent get his just desserts (man I wanted to punch him in his smug little face).

SERIES #: Realm Enforcers #1
CHARACTERS: Kellach Dunne & Alexandra Monzelle
AUTHOR: Rebecca Zanetti
PUBLICATION DATE: June 23, 2015
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts When Ms. Zanetti wrote the last book in her Dark Protectors series I was super sad. Than a little birdy told me that while the Dark Protector series maybe over we were not done with the Realm world just yet. Just imagine me doing the Snoopy Dance when I got that little tid bit. Which brings us to Wicked Ride.
Wicked Ride picks up after the end of the War from Dark Protectors (so if you have not read the series you should start there :), but you could read Wicked Ride without reading Dark Protectors series).
Kellach Dunne, one of the Realm’s Enforcers, has been sent to Seattle along with his brothers looking into a new drug that could be used against witches. In order to find the source of the new drug they have to join the local Biker gang (aka motorcycle club). This make them public enemy number one in the eyes of the local cops. But Kellach will stop at nothing to get this drug off the street. The only thing standing in his way is a feisty female cop that wants to bring down the drug dealers herself.
Alexandra Monzelle (aka Lex) lives and breaths being a cop. She has known what it is like to grow up around drugs and dealers, now it is her job to rid the street of them. The newest drug and its origins may be the toughest case she has ever worked on. It sure would be easier if she didn’t have to deal with the very sexy irish bad boy biker.
Loved this book!!! Loved Kellach and Lex. I can’t wait to see who and what is next!!!

My favorite line from this book
“With the bite and the burn? I’ve mated you, baby. Welcome to Immortality”

If you enjoyed Rebecca’s Dark Protector series you will love this book. Plus a few surprise cameos were really really fun 😀

My interview with Vice Cop Alexandra Monzelle from Rebecca Zanetti’s Wicked Ride.

WR-6-10

Hi all! Welcome to Books-n-Kisses. So, it’s fun to interview the heroes in romance books, but today I thought it would be interesting to interview the heroine from Rebecca Zanetti’s WICKED RIDE. The heroine is Alexandra Monzelle, and she’s a pretty tough cop. Short blonde hair, intelligent blue eyes, compact and very watchful.

She recently met Kellach Dunne, but she has no clue that he’s a hero or a, well, a witch. They’re both hunting for a drug manufacturer and distributor, but they don’t know they’re both looking for the same guy. Anyhoo…here we go.

BnK: Thank you for sitting down with us today, Alexandra.

LEX: Please call me Lex, and you’re welcome. I was told by a source that you might have a line on a distributor of Apollo, the drug that’s killing people on Seattle streets.

BnK: (It hurts witches, too, BTW). Well, I do keep my ear to the ground, but first, let’s chat.

LEX: Ah, all right. What about?

BnK: Kellach Dunne and the Titans of Fire Motorcycle Club (or MC).

LEX: Er, okay. Well, I met Mr. Dunne in an alley in Seattle the other night, and he fought a guy on fire, and then took me back to the MC. I was injured. In the morning, I arrested him. Well, I took him in for questioning.

BnK: That had to go over well.

LEX: Not really. And instead of cooperating, his cousin, Simone Brightston, showed up to act as his attorney. We didn’t get much information out of Dunne.

BnK: He’s sexy, isn’t he?

LEX: Well, if you like the bad boy type.

BnK: (Geez. Who doesn’t, right?) I see. So you’re not attracted to him at all?

LEX: Of course not. He’s an enforcer with the Titans, he breaks the law, and he’s arrogant. Sure, he has a great brogue, and he’s nice to look at, but chances are, I’ll be arresting him soon.

BnK: Right. It sounds like you’re a little interested.

LEX: Nope. I put away the bad guys. I certainly don’t sleep with them.

BnK: I didn’t mention sleeping with him, did I?

LEX: Whatever.

BnK: What if he’s undercover, too. I mean, what if he’s a good guy just doing a job?

LEX: Then I won’t arrest him, but he’d better stay out of my way.

BnK: (Man, does she have some interesting times on the way). Since I know you’ve been tailing Dunne, I have to ask, have you seen any other guys around him? Ones with odd, metallic eyes? (I’m so hoping some of the Dark Protectors show up in WICKED RIDE).

LEX: (Clears throat). Actually, yes. There’s a guy they call ‘King’ who has silver eyes; his nephew, Garrett, who has grey eyes, and another nephew called Logan. His eyes are green, though. Kellach wasn’t happy to see them, which I thought odd.

BnK: (Yay! I wanted to see more of Garrett and Logan). Hmmm. I wonder who they are.

LEX: Right. I’m thinking you know.

BnK: Nope, not me. I’ve been doing some research lately, and this is going to sound odd, but what do you think of the supernatural? Or rather, the immortal world?

LEX: No such thing.

BnK: (Yep. That’s what I figured). Are you very good with rolling with the punches, Alexandra?

LEX: No. I prefer to do the punching.

BnK: (I can’t wait to see her go toe-to-toe with Kellach. I’m not sure who to bet on, to be honest). Alrighty then. Thanks for the interview.

LEX: Wait. Now you give me information.

BnK: Oh yeah. Well, I heard the distributor of Apollo has connections to the Grizzlies, which is another MC.

LEX: Excellent. I’ll go check them out. Thanks!

BnK: (I feel kinda bad, because the Grizzlies are clean. But since they’re shifters, I guess it might be fun to watch Lex check them out.) You betcha! Have a great day.

Excerpt:

The woman cringed against the brick building. “I don’t understand. What kind of a weapon throws fire?”

Kell shot forward and slid an arm around the guy’s neck, spinning him into a headlock, their backs to the woman. Fire burst along the guy’s arms, burning Kell. Pain dug under his skin. With a low growl, Kell allowed his own fire free. Deep and green, it crackled along his body, shielding him from harm. With a puff of smoke, Kell’s fire quelled the human’s.

The human convulsed. Hard and fast, he shook against Kell, who held him upright. It was too late to help the guy—he had taken too much. Way too much. A wretched scream spilled from the human’s throat.

Kell released him and stepped back.

The guy fell to the wet ground, still convulsing. Red poured from his ears, his eyes, and then his nose. The rancid stench of burned flesh filled the alley. He hit hard, shook, and then went still. His eyes retained the bizarre colors, and he looked sightlessly up at the cloudy night. The rain mingled with blood across his face.

Kell sighed and pushed wet hair out of his eyes. Another dead end, and he’d wasted more time, which he absolutely did not have right now. He needed to get rid of the body and then somehow convince the woman she hadn’t just seen what she’d just seen. Plastering on his most charming smile, he turned around and froze.

“Seattle PD. Freeze, asshole,” she whispered, her stance set, a Sig Subcompact in her hands and pointed at his head

REVIEW:
As I talk about this story always keep in mind that I am giving it 4 stars. I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read the next in the series. This is a great start to the new direction of the Dark Protectors. You do not need to have read the DP series to read this one.

Lex is a human cop and Kellach is a witch enforcer. There is a drug that is hitting the streets that they are both trying to bring down but when they get together they become an addiction to each other. (I should have mentioned that tag line to Rebecca Zanetti.) They have a connection immediately but Lex has issues from her past that make it hard to love and trust. Kellach knows he can’t fall for a mortal but brain and heart are too different things.

Now remember I enjoyed this book as I say there were a lot of things I had issues with. First, while I know she has trust issues, Lex too quickly believes the worst in Kellach. Even after falling for him she still believes he is a killer and drug dealer. She never gets over that really. Also I believe there are 3 kinds of women in books. 1) The one you hate and really never start to like (usually end up hating the book), 2) The woman you want to be friends with and 3) The woman you wish you could be if you jumped into the book. The problem is Lex didn’t fall into any of these. Lex is more like the older sister of a friend who you like and want on your side but don’t really hang out with (or want to be). And Kellach never really did it for me. He’s sweet and protective but just never do I fall for him. And finally, there were a few things that were brought up but didn’t happy (ex: at one point Kellach says he will punish Lex by not letting her orgasm if she does something again but when the opportunity is there he doesn’t follow through, etc). Why bring things up if then they are not done?

Once again I will say I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t have the suspense part figured out. The background characters are great and I can’t wait to read their stories especially Simone and Nick… Or Tori and Adam? And who will Daide end up with? I really need to know!!!
