CHARACTERS: Miss Gwendolyn Wilbraham & Earl of Hastings, Matthias Hart
AUTHOR: Kate McKinley
PUBLICATION DATE: July 18, 2016
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A Lady’s Rules of Etiquette When Kidnapping a Gentleman:

1. A lady must obtain a small vial of laudanum and a sturdy length of rope.
2. Once subdued, the gentleman should be bound securely.
3. At no point should the lady leave a sharp implement within the gentleman’s reach.
4. Should rule #3 be neglected, the lady must prepare for things to go dreadfully wrong.
5. In such a case, a lady must keep her countenance and under no circumstances should she submit to his charms and surrender her heart…

Miss Gwendolyn Wilbraham is far more skilled at needlework than she is at kidnapping. But when her best friend begs her to distract the new Earl of Hastings, she reluctantly agrees. Regrettably, the earl is just as clever as he is handsome and before long, he is free of his restraints and not at all pleased…

As one of London’s most notorious rogues, Matthias Hart often finds himself in curious situations. Though he has never woken up drugged, bound, and hidden away in a remote Scottish cottage. Normally, he would welcome such a diversion, but his beautiful captor is young, witty and all-too-innocent. When he finally frees himself, all he wants is revenge and her complete surrender…

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This is the first book I have read of Kate McKinley’s and I have already downloaded more. This story is the third installment of McKinley’s What Happens in Scotland series; book one is How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days and book two is So I Married a Highlander. I did not realize this book was a part of a series when I started it and would recommend reading the first two installments first so you get the background information that is a big part of this book. Though the story can hold its own as a standalone I would have really liked more information about all of the other things happening in the background of this story that are the focus of the first two books – so I have downloaded those two books to read next.

I really enjoyed the characters McKinley wrote. There are many of them and they are all intriguing and stubborn with so much personality. No one is left behind and I cannot wait to read the other books that no doubt go deeper into these characters and their histories. I read a few chapters of this book a night and was pacing myself as the story began to unfold. However, today it really just picked up the pace and I could not put it down until I finished it. Gwen is a great character that is relatable and strong. Matthias is of course flawed but so dang lovable. My heart was full of all the feels with their relationship dynamics. It is scary going into a historical romance in which you are unfamiliar with the author, but this proved to be successful. I am a new fan of Kate McKinley and will continue to follow her work.

#TBT Kimberly’s review of Nobody’s Angel by Stacy Gail ~ Catch Up From The Beginning

TITLE: Nobody’s Angel
SERIES #: Earth Angels #1
CHARACTERS: Kendall & Zeke
AUTHOR: Stacy Gail
PUBLICATION DATE: 01/21/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Investigative journalist Kendall Glynn is horrified when a friend and colleague signs off permanently during a live newscast, jabbing a pen into his jugular. Kendall’s no expert, but judging by the strange white veil in the anchorman’s eyes, she would swear he was a man possessed.

A descendant of the accursed Nephilim, Zeke Reece prowls San Francisco by night, keeping the city free from paranormal phenomena. But even he is no match for whatever malevolent force is behind a recent rash of murder-suicides. And when a beautiful tenacious reporter becomes the next target, Zeke has no choice but to stay close to her, until he can find the evil spirit and cross it over.

The closer Kendall gets to the truth, the more danger she’s in. Fortunately, a sexy and mysterious masked stranger keeps swooping in to the rescue. Kendall’s life depends on finding who or what is responsible for the killings, before it finds her.

REVIEW:
I was not sure what to expect from this book but I really enjoyed it. It is a short read of about 100 pages but worth every word. The book had a feel of Supernatural (the show) and Batman (or another masked hero). I enjoyed the relationship between the two characters and would have enjoyed even more about them. While it is a short story I would have loved a bit more.

I also enjoyed the fact that Zeke is something different but he is not comfortable with it. I liked how Kendall was not willing to back down either. In all honesty I just enjoyed the book in general. It is a great story and I can not wait to read the next one.

Kelly reviews Where The Wild Things Bite by Molly Harper

where wild things biteTITLE: Where the Wild Things Bite

CHARACTERS: Anna Winthrop & Finn Palmeroy
AUTHOR: Molly Harper
NARRATOR: Amanda Ronconi
RUN TIME: 7 Hours & 14 Minutes
PUBLICATION DATE: July 26, 2016
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | Audible | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Delivering a rare book to a valued customer is definitely part of mild-mannered archivist Anna Winthrop’s job description. You know what isn’t? Protecting her precious cargo from mid-flight theft by the very pilot who is flying her to Half-Moon Hollow…while trying to appear as unappetizing as possible to the only other passenger, a vampire. Undead bookstore owner Jane Jameson could be waiting a very long time for her book. Possibly forever.

Fortunately, Anna’s dashing fanged companion Finn Palmeroy helps her fend off the attack, but not before their plane crash lands in the forest hundreds of miles from civilization. Great, now she’s stranded with a priceless tome and a rakish vampire whose bedtime is fast approaching. Why does everyone want this book so badly, anyway? Anna just wants to get it to Jane before Finn decides to turn her into dinner-or sweep her off her feet. Okay, the second option is really tempting. But they’re not out of the woods yet.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts As always I am blown away by Ms. Harper’s ability to write a story that makes me fall in love with her writing, her characters and the world she has created all over again.
Where The Wild Things Bite we get to meet up Finn Palmeroy again. If you may have recalled in The Single Undead Moms Club I wanted badly to stab Finn with a fork. I disliked him greatly. But in WTWTB Finn redeems himself….. Kinda. I mean I guess he does. Or does he? Anna is great. I love her knowledge of so many random facts about surviving in the wilderness. She is one tough cookie and she puts up with Finn. I hope that we will see more of Anna & Finn in future stories. I can’t wait to see what/who is next in Half-Moon Hollow.
As always I let the amazingly talented Amanda Ronconi read this story to me. I absolutely love Amanda ability to bringing Molly’s characters to life for me. And it is always fun when you are in the car and you are laughing so hard that the people next to you look at you like your are crazy. I look forward to our next audio meeting Ms. Ronconi!!!

#TBT Kimberly’s review of The Best Man by Kristan Higgins ~ Catch Up From The Beginning

TITLE: The Best Man
SERIES #: Blue Heron #1
CHARACTERS: Faith & Levi
AUTHOR: Kristan Higgins
PUBLICATION DATE: 02/26/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Faith Holland left her hometown after being jilted at the altar. Now a little older and wiser, she’s ready to return to the Blue Heron Winery, her family’s vineyard, to confront the ghosts of her past, and maybe enjoy a glass of red. After all, there’s some great scenery there….

Like Levi Cooper, the local police chief-and best friend of her former fiancé. There’s a lot about Levi that Faith never noticed, and it’s not just those deep green eyes. The only catch is she’s having a hard time forgetting that he helped ruin her wedding all those years ago. If she can find a minute amidst all her family drama to stop and smell the rosÉ, she just might find a reason to stay at Blue Heron, and finish that walk…

REVIEW:
This was a great story. I enjoyed the story very much. The character of Faith is so funny. She is snide, sarcastic, quick witted and really just an enjoyable character. Levi is a little brooding for me but I still liked him.

I enjoyed the background characters probably as much as the main characters. I liked how the story was not started and finished in a matter of a couple months. Their story started back in elementary school in a way and has taken twenty years to progress. I also liked that even when Faith comes back to town it is not “love at second sight”.

As I said I liked Faith (mostly). I liked how she was strong willed and had such a great sense of humor. I didn’t like how naive she seemed to be. Seemed like she was so easily deceived or maybe it was just that she was oblivious to the obvious. And Levi, well again as I said he was a little too brooding for me. He is a diamond in the rough type of guy and while I liked him I would not put him as one of my favorites of all time.

It is actually hard to tell you about the story without telling you some of the surprises of the story so I won’t. But I do think if you enjoy romance novels this is certainly one to read. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

* The bathroom scene alone is worth reading this book for. I was laughing so hard!

#TBT Kimberly’s review of The Wanderer by Robyn Carr ~ Catch Up From The Beginning

TITLE: The Wanderer
SERIES #: Thunder Point #1
CHARACTERS: Sarah & Cooper
AUTHOR: Robyn Carr
PUBLICATION DATE: 03/26/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Nestled on the Oregon coast is a small town of rocky beaches and rugged charm. Locals love the land’s unspoiled beauty. Developers see it as a potential gold mine. When newcomer Hank Cooper learns he’s been left an old friend’s entire beachfront property, he finds himself with a community’s destiny in his hands.

Cooper has never been a man to settle in one place, and Thunder Point was supposed to be just another quick stop. But Cooper finds himself getting involved with the town. And with Sarah Dupre, a woman as complicated as she is beautiful.

With the whole town watching for his next move, Cooper has to choose between his old life and a place full of new possibilities. A place that just might be home.

REVIEW:
Another great read from Robyn Carr. A spin-off of her Virgin River novels Carr takes us to Thunder Point and what a wonderful trip it is. We meet Cooper who comes to find out the suspicious circumstances regarding an old military friends death and finds himself the heir to his friends land. Sarah is a single “mother”/sister to Landon a boy being bullied by his teammates.

Carr brings the reader right into the town and beaches of Thunder Point. Cooper is such a quiet yet interesting character that it is hard not to want to be his friend. And the sadness and loneliness that both Sarah and Cooper feel is something that jumps off the pages. I enjoyed these characters very much. It was a big odd to not have the main characters even meet until halfway through the story but as with all of Carr’s books there is always a reason behind her ideas.

I enjoyed the background people very much as well. Mac and Gina are sweet and Landon is just a doll. I can’t wait for the next in this new series (maybe about Dr. Scott?). If you love a sweet romance then this is one you will not want to miss.

#TBT Kelly reviews Darkest Flame by Donna Grant ~ Catch Up From The Beginning

darkest flameTITLE: Darkest Flame
SERIES #: Dark Kings #1
CHARACTERS: Kellen & Denae Lacroix
AUTHOR: Donna Grant
PUBLICATION DATE: April 29, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender – body and soul?

Her beauty is a weapon

Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she’s been set up – as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny – and a desire – that could destroy them both…

His passion is a curse…

It’s been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans – and there’s no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons…and the fiercest enemy of all.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Kellen has been asleep for a very long time. So when he is woken up by a pair of humans fighting to say that he is not happy would be a major understatement. But when he sees the female take down the male even being hurt he is intrigued. But his hatred for humans makes the choice of saving or not saving the female hard. But once his choice is made he knows that his life will never be the same.

Being used as bait was not in the cards on this mission. But that is exactly what happened when Denea was assigned to this mission. But had she known the lengths & deeps of what this mission was or the trouble that would find her she may have refused to go on this mission.

Kellen & Denae are great together. I loved them. I am convinced that there is not much better then a Dragon shifter. Darkest Flame is an amazing start to Donna Grant’s new series, now granted there are 4 novella’s that can be found in Dark Heat. But Darkest Flame is the first book in the Dark King’s series. I so can’t wait to learn more about Tristan and the rest of the Dragon Kings!!! Oh and Rhi!!! I can’t wait to learn all of her secrets 🙂

Natasha reviews Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

red queenTITLE: Red Queen
SERIES #: Red Queen #1
CHARACTERS: Mare & Cal
AUTHOR: Victoria Aveyard
PUBLICATION DATE: February 10, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

REVIEW:
Would it be too much to ask to have a YA book that does NOT include a love triangle, or one in which not every single male character is secretly in love with the heroine? Just. One?

Ok, I just needed to get that out. Now, while this book has many of the to be expected aspects of a YA novel that I am so sick of, it was still interesting enough for me to finish – I just rolled my eyes several times and pushed through. The world that Aveyard created is interesting, but we don’t get a good grasp of its scope and purpose in the first book. We spend most of the book in the royal palace learning about the goings on of the elite Silvers. I’m hoping the world will be expanded much more in the subsequent sequels. Mare is a pretty likable heroine. She speaks her mind, is strong willed and makes mostly sensible decisions. I liked how she handled the various situations she was thrust into throughout the book. Cal will take some getting used to – right now I’m left with an ‘I don’t hate him but don’t really like him’ opinion. I am pretty excited about his character development though. I think Aveyard can do really interesting things with his character in future books that can really make the series intense. Overall the plot was stimulating, with pretty predictable conflict points and ‘mean girl’ antics just with various “abilities” added in. I will say that I loved the end of the book and was genuinely shocked. It was the best part of the book. For that reason I am going to continue with the series and am really interested to see how it will progress. If you enjoyed Red Rising by Pierce Brown, you will likely like this book. I didn’t enjoy Red Rising much, but I noticed the similarities between the series right away. They have similar premises but are executed quite differently; it’s an interesting comparison.

AUTHOR: Jaci Burton
PUBLICATION DATE: July 26, 2016

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Love After All and the Play-By-Play novels, running from the past isn’t nearly as satisfying as facing the future…

Brady Conners is hardly the settling type, but when tragedy strikes in his family, he has no choice but to return home to Hope, Oklahoma. Setting up shop to work on custom motorcycles and pass the time, Brady has no intention of letting anyone get close—until he meets Megan.

Pastry shop owner Megan Lee is drawn to quiet, brooding Brady. Their connection is undeniable, and it quickly develops from physical attraction into something much stronger. But with Brady putting up barriers, Megan is afraid to truly open her heart—unless she can convince him to let go of the past…

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts As always Ms. Burton gives us an amazing story from Hope, Oklahoma. I have really enjoyed all of my visits to Hope. But I thinking that Don’t Let Go might be one of my top favorites in this series. I absolutely love Brady.
Brady has one goal and only one goal to open his own custom paint shop. He doesn’t really want anything to do with the people of Hope. But the sweet pastry shop owner Megan makes it very hard for him to do that. Throw in a cute little puppy and you have a fun story.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in Hope.

Kimberly reviews Miss Frazer’s Adventure by Alexandra Ivy

miss fraersTITLE: Miss Frazer’s Adventure
CHARACTERS: Kate & Lucius
AUTHOR: Alexandra Ivy
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/02/16
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Dear Reader,

Long before I wrote my sexy paranormal romances, I wrote traditional Regency romances as Debbie Raleigh. Now I’m thrilled to have them made available once more, as fresh and adventurous as ever…

To avoid the taint of her mother’s scandalous reputation, Miss Kate Frazer stifles her naturally high spirits to become a model of propriety. But when she is rewarded with a suitor who cares only for her dowry—and leaves her waiting at the altar on her wedding day—Kate determines that she will live as she chooses. Her first adventure will be a trip to London under an assumed name to enjoy the city’s delights. And woe to anyone who stands in her way—particularly her fiancé…

Lucius Calfield wasn’t looking forward to wedlock with the tediously suitable Kate Frazer. Still, he is chagrined when a violent storm makes him late for the ceremony. But embarrassment turns to astonishment when he finds that his fiancée has vanished entirely! And that is the least of the surprises his unaccountably changed—and unexpectedly irresistible bride—has in store…

I’ve fallen in love with these timeless books all over again, and believe that you will too.

REVIEW:

This book was originally published in 2005 under the name Debbie Raleigh and is a very quick historical romance. The problem is I never really connected to Kate. Luce was cute in his own way but I never really understood why he was so interested in Kate.

Because this was written so long ago I know that Alexandra Ivy has come into her own writing and usually I enjoy everything I read from her but this just wasn’t one of my favorites. However, that being said a fan of sweet historical romance novels will enjoy it. This is not a story of sec but a story of romance .

Kimberly reviews Dark Carousel by Christine Feehan

dark carouselTITLE: Dark Carousel
SERIES #: Dark #30
CHARACTERS: Charlotte & Tariq
AUTHOR: Christine Feehan
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/02/16
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the new Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman falls prey to the seductive allure of the past—and a vampire warrior’s intoxicating embrace…

The moment Charlotte Vintage walks into his club, Tariq Asenguard’s blood is set on fire. The ancient Carpathian had given up hope of finding his lifemate, but now he will do anything to make Charlotte his own. What Tariq doesn’t know is that Charlotte is using herself and her best friend as bait—to try to draw out the bloodthirsty killers who have already murdered Charlotte’s brother and mentor.

Charlotte is familiar with Tariq. Not only is he one of the richest and most eligible bachelors in the city, but he’s also a renowned collector of old carousel horses, which Charlotte restores. Their shared passion opens Charlotte up to trusting him with her life and with the desire she can no longer control. But it also makes her vulnerable to a centuries-old curse that will unite her and Tariq in a war against the enemies of humans and Carpathians alike…

REVIEW:
This is the 30th in the series. She 30th. This series has been going for feels like forever. And yet never seems to get old. At least not to me.

The story is about the Carpathian Hunters. Charlotte knows of Tariq but who doesn’t. He is wealthy and since they both have a love of carousel horses they have a connection. I will say that I have not read all of the books in the series but enjoy the way Feehan writes and the way she brings the readers into the story so quickly.

This is a dark paranormal story but something about it makes it seem drawn in. This is not a quick read and Feehan does spend some time explaining the background but for those who have missed all or part of the series I think it is needed.

The characters are written in a way that makes you believe this could be happening on our own streets even though it is paranormal.

You do not really need to read the other books to read this as I have said I have only read some here and there but was able to follow along without a problem. If you enjoy the paranormal world of vampire and hunter you will certainly enjoy this story.

Kimberly reviews Fearless by Kimberly Kincaid

fearlessTITLE: Fearless
SERIES #: Rescue Squad #2
CHARACTERS: Cole & Savannah
AUTHOR: Kimberly Kincaid
PUBLICATION DATE: 07/26/16

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The Temperature Is Rising…

Firefighter Cole Everett’s life revolves around the firehouse. Committed to saving lives–and to the guys who always have his back in the most dangerous moments on the job–Cole’s focus is a coveted spot on the Fairview Rescue Squad. When his captain asks him to mentor a rookie firefighter, he jumps at the chance, hoping it will help to prove his skill. But the new “guy” is none other than Savannah Nelson, a female firefighter as stubbornly determined as Cole is, and a whole lot curvier in all the right places . . .

Savannah won’t let anyone extinguish her dream of fulfilling her family legacy and becoming a top notch firefighter–and she’s happily surprised when strong-willed, sexy Cole is willing to give her the chance she deserves. Concentrating on the job isn’t always easy when the heat between them flares higher every day, but Savannah won’t give up–not even when one of Station Eight’s veterans seems bent on trashing her reputation. To stop a string of possible arsons, Savannah and Cole will need to eliminate every distraction–but can they let their love go up in flames?

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Sometimes when the story is about a tough female trying to make it in a man’s world the story loses something for me. And maybe it did in this one a bit but not a lot. Savannah is just a girl trying to live up to the family tradition. He isn’t out to prove that women are as good as men just that she belongs in the “family business” like the rest of the family does.

Cole is all about working his way up the firefighter chain. He wants to prove he can be the best and do what he loves.

When the two of them are together there is sparks of their own. The suspense part of the story is good but the story is more about the romance and I enjoyed it.

Kincaid does make her firefighters HOT so be prepared for some sizzle. This is the second in the series but can be a stand alone as well.

REVIEW:
4.75 Hearts The best revenge is served cold or is it served scorching hot??
Well if you ask Ann Weaver the idea of revenge is ice cold and full of getting even against those who hurt her. But when the plan of revenge is put into place, cold is the very last thing that she experiences. To say that Jack Bloom will melt the block of ice that has encased Ann’s broken heart would be a huge understatement.
After finishing another one of Ms. Harte’s series (The McCauley Brothers ) I was super excited when I saw her new Best Revenge series. Served Cold is the first book in this trilogy (I am assuming it is a trilogy because of Terrible Trio). I am so glad that I did pick up this book. Jack and Ann are just great!!! I mean amazing. They are so great together and boy howdy the sexy time is wowza!!!
I loved this book. Loved the cover. This was one sit read for me. I just could not tear myself away from the story. I loved the side characters too!! I so can not wait for the next book in this series. If you are looking a great, quick and hot read you really need to pick up a copy of Served Cold.
