Kimberly reviews Run To You by Rachel Gibson

Run To YouTITLE: Run To You
SERIES: Lovett Texas #4
CHARACTERS: Stella & Beau
AUTHOR: Rachel Gibson
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/24/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Rachel Gibson, New York Times bestselling author of Rescue Me, returns to Texas with a tale of what happens when a tough guy meets his match—and falls harder than a ton of red-hot bricks .
There’s nothing like fleeing Miami to ruin a girl’s day.
Stella Leon’s bartending gig was going fine until gorgeous ex-Marine Beau Junger decked her mob-connected boss, spirited her out of the city, and claimed that Stella’s half-sister—the one with the perfect life—sent him. Now Stella has no choice but to go along for the ride . . . and seduce Beau’s military-issue socks off . . .
The Marine Corps was Beau’s escape from his old man’s legacy of naval heroism and serial philandering, but no amount of training could prepare him for the day he looked in the mirror and saw his father staring back. The answer: swear off meaningless sex. Oh, and find a way to make Stella Leon quit being so damn hot . . .

REVIEW:
Very cute short story. The chemistry between Stella and Beau is immediate and fun. While this is part of the Lovett Texas series it can certainly stand alone. There was a bit that didn’t seem finished but it still seemed to work out well. Beau is a great character and while Stella is a mess she is truly fun.

This is a adorable read to have available for one of those rainy days curled up with a cute book.

Winter Romance Wednesday! Kimberly reviews Sleigh Belles by Beth Albright

Sleigh BellesTITLE: Sleigh Belles
SERIES #: Sassy Belles #3
CHARACTERS: Dallas & Cal
AUTHOR: Beth Albright
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/24/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
With her hair perfectly coiffed, nails freshly manicured and a heavy trail of perfume wafting behind her, local news reporter Dallas Dubois is sure she’s about to kick her career—and maybe her love life—into high gear. The director of the Tuscaloosa children’s Christmas play has fallen ill, and Dallas is ordered by her station manager to take the reins. Everyone is shocked—especially Cal Hollingsworth, who still remembers her as the Ice Queen from high school.

If nothing else, Dallas has never met a challenge that a little lip gloss and a Chanel knockoff couldn’t fix. But she has no idea how to relate to these kids, and their brutal honesty is giving her pause. Things are made even more complicated by the butterflies she gets whenever Cal is near….

But when long-lost family members re-enter her life, Dallas’s icy veneer begins to melt. And with Cal by her side, she soon realizes that it’s what’s under all the hair spray that counts.

REVIEW:
3.5 Stars I enjoyed this story all though it had many sad parts. I wondered if it really was a holiday story with home much sadness was going on. But in the end as with all holiday stories it has a happy ending.

Dallas is hard to like at first. She seemed so smug and stuck up but once the reader gets to know her and her story there is actually something that changes the way the reader sees her. Cal is a sweet guy and I enjoyed him but honestly this is not his story. It is Dallas’s.

I’ll be honest. There were a couple of things I did not like. I tried to figure out how to say it on here but it would be spoiler so I will not do that but lets say sometimes forgiveness doesn’t come with a bow. And I wish there had been a epilogue. I wanted to know what happened with Sara Grace. But maybe that will be told in the next book. But all that being said it ended up a heartwarming holiday story perfect for a winter day snuggled up in front of the fire that gets you into a holiday mood.

Winter Romance Wednesday! Kimberly reviews The Memory Tree by Joseph Pittman

Memory TreeTITLE: The Memory Tree
SERIES #: Linden Corners #4
CHARACTERS: Janey & Brian
AUTHOR: Joseph Pittman
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/24/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Can they look to the future—and still celebrate the past…?

As the holidays descend upon Linden Corners, life becomes a flurry of cooking, shopping, and visiting friends and family—and young Janey Sullivan is worried her Christmas traditions may get lost in the mix. Though she loves her adoptive father, Brian Duncan, she longs for her birth parents and questions her past. But an unexpected yuletide visitor may have just the answers she needs.

Haunted by the loss of his soul mate, Brian is reluctant to test the waters of the dating pool. With his family all coming to visit for Christmas, he hardly has time to think about it anyway—until newcomer Trina Winter arrives in town. Now, as life moves on for everyone around him, Brian begins to wonder if he can do the same.

As they grapple with the pain of the past, Janey, Brian, and Trina will each learn to make the changes that could lead to a bright new future—and perhaps the family they’ve always dreamed of.

REVIEW:
This is a very sweet holiday story. Having read only the third in the series and now the fourth some of the history of this series is lost but it still makes for a wonderful tale. The third in the series (A Christmas Hope) had me bawling my eyes out (honestly) but while this one is sweet with a touch of sad it did not have the impact that the last one did. But that does not mean it is not good because it is. The other was just incredible.

The author is very…um…wordy. He likes to ramble a bit but his ramblings bring you into the picture of this quaint little town. I am sad at some of the turns this story took because the characters have already been through so much especially Janey but it did open up a new direction for the next story.

Someday I hope to read the first and second one in the series because I think the reader misses out on a big dynamic if the series is not read from the beginning.

Kimberly reviews Blue By You by Rachel Gibson

Blue By You TITLE: Blue By You
CHARACTERS: Blue & Kasper
AUTHOR: Rachel Gibson
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/03/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
They say you never forget your first time, but there’s nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She’s tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he’s got the nerve to return—leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue’s a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. But Kasper knows she’s the one woman for him … and now he’s got to prove it to her all over again.

REVIEW:
What an adorable short romance. With it being only 50 reading pages I was disappointed that it was not a full length novel or at least a full size novella. I loved the characters and the background of the characters. I would have loved to have seen more scenes played out in their southern mansions. I would have liked more of Kasper’s Grandmother too (I think she would have been a hoot of a character). But even with all of that not there I enjoyed this story. Made for a great quick read between books.

Kelly reviews Burn by Maya Banks

Burn

TITLE: Burn
SERIES #: Breathless Trilogy #3
CHARACTERS: Ash McIntyre & Josie
AUTHOR: Maya Banks
PUBLICATION DATE: Aug. 6, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Ash, Jace, and Gabe: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Ash, it’s the woman who changes everything he’s ever known about dominance and desire…

When it comes to sex, Ash McIntyre has always explored his wilder side—extreme and uncompromising. He demands control. And he prefers women who want it like that. Even the women he’s shared with his best friend, Jace.

But Jace is involved with a woman he has no intention of sharing. And now even Gabe has settled into a relationship with a woman who gives him everything he needs, leaving Ash feeling restless and unfulfilled.

Then Ash meets Josie, who seems immune to his charms and his wealth. Intrigued, he begins a relentless pursuit, determined she won’t be the one who got away. He never imagined the one woman to tell him no would be the only woman who’d ever drive him to the edge of desire.

REVIEW:
Burn is Maya Banks final book in her “Breathless Series” And I do have to say that this was my favorite book in the trilogy.

Ash is not as laid back as we thought in book 1 & 2. Ash is very a intense, demanding, protective and very sweet man. And Josie is the perfect mix of submissive yet witty and fiery enough to keep Ash on his toes.

Burn is a really good book. It is kinda sad to know that this is the end of the trilogy. But then again all three of these guys have their Happily Ever After and are blissfully happy and that would make a pretty boring book. But maybe, just maybe, Maya will throw us a boone in the future with a revisit to the Breathless Series. Got to have updates on how Gabe, Jace & Ash fair as daddy’s right?

Kimberly reviews The Hero by Robyn Carr

The Hero

TITLE: The Hero
SERIES #: Thunder Point #3
CHARACTERS: Devon & Spencer
AUTHOR: Robyn Carr
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/27/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In a moment of desperation, Devon McAllister takes her daughter and flees a place where they should have been safe and secure. She has no idea what is around the next bend, but she is pretty certain it can’t be worse than what they’ve left behind. Her plan is to escape to somewhere she can be invisible. Instead, an unexpected offer of assistance leads her to Thunder Point, a tiny Oregon town with a willingness to help someone in need.

As the widowed father of a vulnerable young boy, Spencer Lawson knows something about needing friendship. But he’s not looking for anything else. Instead, he’s thrown his energy into his new role as Thunder Point’s high school football coach. Tough and demanding to his team, off the field he’s gentle and kind…just the kind of man who could heal Devon’s wounded heart.

Devon thought she wanted to hide from the world. But in Thunder Point, you find bravery where you least expect it…and sometimes, you find a hero.

REVIEW:
3.5 Stars So here is the thing. The story in the book is really good. The problem is the romance is almost non-existent. Devon’s story is very interesting. The struggles she has been through sucks you in and you want to know more. And I enjoyed catching up with the people from the other books.

The problem is that Spencer did not have much of a storyline at all. Almost like he was thrown into the romance. I actually felt that Devon and the Doctor had more chemistry. I am not sure why these characters were put together. When they are together they are sweet but not what I would call a true romance.

There was a lot of story about the past characters as well. As if the author wanted to tell their continued story and decided “oh what the heck I will add a new couple”. Now that being said it is still a really good story. Devon is a wonderful character and I loved reading about her situation. And if you have read the other two in the series you will most certainly want to read this one so you know what happened to the previous couples.

Kimberly review The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgans

The Next Big Thing

TITLE: The Next Best Thing
CHARACTERS: Lucy & Ethan
AUTHOR: Kristan Higgins
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/27/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Lucy Lang isn’t looking for fireworks.

She’s looking for a nice, decent man. Someone who’ll mow the lawn, flip chicken on the barbecue, teach their future children to play soccer. But most important: someone who won’t inspire the slightest stirring in her heart or anywhere else. A young widow, Lucy can’t risk that kind of loss again. But sharing her life with a cat named Fat Mikey and the Black Widows at the family bakery isn’t enough either. So it’s goodbye to Ethan, her hot but entirely inappropriate friend with privileges and hello to a man she can marry.

Too bad Ethan Mirabelli isn’t going anywhere. As far as he’s concerned, what she needs might be right under her nose. But can he convince her that the next best thing can really be forever?

REVIEW:
First let me say that I am a big fan of Higgins so I was surprised how much I did not enjoy this book. It was originally released in 2010 but it still did not seem like her MO of writing. First it is written in the first person which I can deal with but I am not sure why the author felt this book should be written that way. Second I am not a fan of someone who is pining away for a lost love the whole book somehow changing and falling in love again in a snap. I guess I should have realized from the title but I had no idea that Ethan really would stay “The Next Best Thing”.

I am really glad this was not my first Higgins book because honestly I am not sure if I would have picked up another one but thankfully I have read others so I will stay a fan and look forward to reading more of her books.

Kimberly reviews Just This Once by Trish Jensen

Just This Once

TITLE: Just This Once
CHARACTERS: Shannon & Rick
AUTHOR: Trish Jensen
PUBLICATION DATE: 07/01/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Will she say Yes, just this once?
As a minister’s daughter, Shannon Walsh was raised to say No to a lot of temptations with men at the top of that list. She’s an adult now, making her own choices, but until Mr. Right comes along, she plans to keep resisting the call of the wild.
Then Rick Hardison moves in next door. The handsome rascal doesn’t appear to have spent many hours inside a church, and he doesn’t waste any time drawing Shannon inside his wickedly sexy arms. What’s a good girl to do when the man of her dreams is a very bad boy? She decides to take a chance. But just this once.

REVIEW:
This is a very cute short read. Apparently it is a reprint from 1998 and honesty it has aged pretty well. Maybe a thing or two here or there that didn’t age (a answering machine, no cell, etc) but mostly it stands the test of time. Shannon and Rick are adorable and Bert is one for the books. Goodness he is adorable. The book had me holding in a laugh by page 10.

This is the perfect beach book as they call it. Just sit back relax and enjoy the story.

Jennifer reviews All Out Of Love by Lori Wilde

All Out Of Love

TITLE: All Out of Love
SERIES #: A Cupid, Texas Novel #2
CHARACTERS: Lace Bettingfield and Pierce Hollister
AUTHOR: Lori Wilde
PUBLICATION DATE: 06/25/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Millie Greenway and her friends have tried for years to keep the Cupid legend alive in their hometown, but she’s not getting much help from her granddaughters. Lace Bettingfield knows the legend is bogus. As a teen, she left a letter at the Cupid statue and got nothing in return but humiliation. But now the guy she dreamed of is back in town, Lace begins to wonder if the tale might just prove to be true.

REVIEW:
This was the first book that I’ve read in the Cupid, Texas series and I enjoyed this book immensely. Lace Bettingfield was humiliated as a teenager because she left a letter at the Cupid Statue about Pierce Hollister, which was then broadcasted to her entire high school. Several years later, Lace has returned to Cupid after finishing her PhD and is working for the Cupid Botanical Gardens with the intent of putting her past behind her. At the same time, Pierce has returned home to recuperate after a football injury and help his ailing father. The two accidentally meet at the hospital and Pierce can’t believe that Lace is now this beautiful woman that used to follow him around as a teenager. Lace is determined to prove that she has gotten Pierce out of her system but every time he touches her, those old feelings come back, stronger than before. Pierce wants to prove to Lace that he has changed and that Lace is the only woman for him. But, Lace is afraid that she will be the laughing stock of Cupid all over again and her heart wants to believe that her and Pierce were meant to be together all along.

I absolutely loved Lace’s character in this book because I completely understood what she was going through. She took a chance by sending that letter out to Cupid and it backfired, but it made her a stronger person because of it. She was smart, sassy and I loved that she had curves compared to the other heroines that I’ve read. She wanted to prove that Pierce couldn’t get to her after all these years and he tried very hard to get her attention and make up for his past mistakes. I also liked the interactions between Lace and Pierce, because she had such a wicked sense of humor and she wouldn’t let Pierce be taken advantage of by others either. They were a very cute couple together and I’m glad to see that Pierce got his act together to prove that Lace was meant to be with him.

All Out of Love is a tender-hearted romance about second chances at love and I was impressed with the residents of Cupid, Texas. Lori Wilde has created a wonderful series that will pull at your heart-strings and will make you want to visit Cupid over and over again. I can’t read the next book in the series, Somebody to Love.

Interview with Maisey Yates

unexpected2

Today I have Maisey Yates here to discuss her new release, Unexpected, which is the second release in her Silver Creek series.  I love this series because it is based here in Oregon and I have already told Maisey, I want to live on Cole’s Elk Haven ranch.  I hope everyone checks out this delightful series.

1. Tell me about your new release

Unexpected is a story about two people who have never met before…having a baby together. When Cole finds out that a clinic mix-up has resulted in a total stranger conceiving his child, he knows he can’t walk away. But figuring out how to deal with the stubborn – and sexy, mother of his baby is another issue entirely.

2. Where did you come with the idea for this series?
I love the idea of the IVF mix-up, because it takes the classic idea of the accidental pregnancy to a whole new place. These are two people who have NEVER met, having a baby together. But it was actually a picture of a cowboy that inspired this series. From there, I thought of Cole Mitchell, and his brother and sister. After that it was a matter of figuring out just who the perfect woman for him was…

3. Were there any kind of challenges to writing a small-town romance and what type of research did you have to do?
I am small town, so for me there was a level of comfort and familiarity to the small-town world that is absent from the category romance I write, which tend to be glamorous and urban. I love writing small town because it’s what I know.
4. What are you working on now?

I’m working on book 3 in the Silver Creek series, which is titled Unbroken and is scheduled for an August 2014 release. This is Cade’s story. You’ll meet Cade in Unexpected.

5. Which actors do you envision playing your characters?

That’s a tough one! Maybe…Henry Cavill and Cameron Diaz?

6. Any advice for aspiring writers?
Yes! Keep trying…and keep writing. Always write. If you submit something? Write something new. Writing is the best way to learn HOW to write, at least in my experience. 😉
7. What food or drink do you absolutely have to have while writing?

Coffee and marshmallows. 😀 Everyone on my twitter knows that!

About the Author:
IMG_7155
USA Today Bestselling author Maisey Yates lives in rural Oregon with her three children and her husband, whose chiseled jaw and arresting features continue to make her swoon. She feels the epic trek she takes several times a day from her office to her coffee maker is a true example of her pioneer spirit.

In 2009, at the age of twenty-three Maisey sold her first book. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of sexy alpha males and happily ever afters, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Maisey divides her writing time between dark, passionate category romances  set just about everywhere on earth and light sexy contemporary romances set practically in her back yard. She believes that she clearly has the best job in the world.

Jennifer’s Review of Unexpected

unexpected2TITLE: Unexpected

SERIES #: Silver Creek #2

CHARACTERS: Kelsey Noble and Cole Mitchell

AUTHOR:  Maisey Yates

PUBLICATION DATE:  08/20/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: After spending another family wedding fielding questions about her non-existent love life, Kelsey Noble decides she’s tired of waiting around for things she could go out and get herself.  What Kelsey wants is a baby, and she doesn’t see any point waiting for a husband she’s not even sure she wants.  But a mix-up at the fertility clinic lands her with a hassle she didn’t count on.  A big, muscular hassle in a Stetson and cowboy boots.

Cole Mitchell is shocked to discover that a grand gesture for years past has come back to haunt him.  Now, thanks to a clerical error, a woman he’s never met is having his baby–and there’s no way he’s going to walk away and forget he has a child.

Trying to make nice with the unexpected father of her baby lands Kelsey in Silver Creek, Oregon, dealing with the kind of small town life she left behind years ago.  Even worse is dealing with the burning attraction she feels for Cole.  She knows adding sex to the mix is a very bad idea, but she’s not sure how long she can resist falling for the last man she ever expected.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I liked Kelsey right away because she had a lot of spunk and determination by making a decision to have a child on her own. She had the means to support a child and felt that she didn’t need a man to make her life complete.  I understood her surprise to find that her anonymous donor wasn’t so anonymous when Cole Mitchell showed up on her doorstep. I liked that even though it was a mistake at the clinic, Cole and Kelsey were determined to get to know each other for the sake of the child.  They both were hoping that this could turn into something more so they could both be involved in the child’s life.

Cole Mitchell was a handsome cowboy who had his hands full with the responsibility of handling his family’s ranch. Meeting Kelsey wasn’t what he had planned especially when he was still reeling from the mess that was his previous marriage.  He was sweet and bound to make sure that Kelsey was taken care of during her pregnancy.  I liked how when Kelsey practically threw herself at him that he wanted to take things slow and not rush things because he wanted to have a relationship with her.  You don’t see that very often in books where the guy is slowing things down instead of the girl. Cole was exactly what Kelsey was looking for and it took a clerical error to bring two special people into her life instead of just one.

I adored Unexpected because it was a sweet romance in a small town setting.  I really enjoyed Maisey’s first one, Unbuttoned and this new one is definitely a winner.  I can’t wait to read more about Cole’s sister, Lark, in the next book, Untouched, because she is due for a happy ending as well.

Interview & tour wide giveaway with Lilliana Anderson

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Lillian Anderson to the blog today.

Lilliana Anderson Pic (1)Lillian, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Sure, I’m a full time author and mum of four kids, and I started writing officially almost a year ago when I got tired of my mother in law saying she was going to write her life story. I told her that the only way we would get any peace was if I did it for her. She agreed, and that’s how the Confidante Trilogy, and my writing addiction started.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I’ve always loved writing, but I felt that being an author was one of those dream jobs that only very few people happened upon. I was studying to be an industrial relations advocate originally, but my life took a slightly different path which eventually led me to where I am now.

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?

Um, I would say l’m a plotter. I spend a lot of time talking through my plot with my husband before I start writing, so I’m very clear on what is happening when I start. I also tend to write, very briefly, what is to happen in each chapter just so I can close the laptop at the end of each day without the characters yelling details at me all night.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

That I always write a book twice. The first time it’s just a pile of bones shaped somewhat like a skeleton, but the second time I give it flesh and bring it all to life. I feel as though I can’t write the flesh of a story until I’ve had feedback on the bones.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?Too close cover (2)

I’ve just released Too Close which is a companion book to A Beautiful Struggle. It more thoroughly explains the friendship between David and Katrina. You can read Too Close first, but I think it would be best to read it after Struggle (which is a free download)

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I had a lot of readers asking to know more about David, so I felt that he deserved to have his say.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

My current work is Phoenix. It’s another in the companion series The Beauty in Between and ties in to A Beautiful Forever. This one shows Paige’s back story and how she came to be the person Elliot meets on the plane in the beginning of Forever.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

A.V Scott. I love her work and her personality. We met on Facebook and got along straight away, but we live on opposite sides of the world. We have great plans for attending book tours when our children are grown though.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Do your research and see what’s out there. Spend every spare moment reading, it’s the best way to learn.

Beautiful Struggle (1)Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

Make a snowman. I’ve never seen snow before, so that’s a big ‘to do’ for me.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen –she really left me hanging with the first one!

What is one book everyone should read before they die?

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. That is probably the most beautiful, heart wrenching story l have ever read. I think about it every day, and I read it nearly seven years ago.

What is your favorite time of year & why?

Autumn, because it’s not too hot and not too cold. Plus I love the colours. So Pretty!

Who is your Celebrity crush? Beautiful Forever (1)

And what would you do if you ever meet them?

At the moment, it’s Stephen Amell. That man is one very divine human being.

If I ever met him, I’d likely say “hey, what’s up?” ‘cause I’m cool like that!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes! Thank you so much for having me on your blog today. You’ve been awesome!
