Take a chance on meTITLE: Take a Chance on Me
SERIES #: Something New #1
CHARACTERS: Mitch Riley & Maddie Donovan
AUTHOR: Jennifer Dawson
PUBLICATION DATE: February 4, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Gorgeous runaway brides. . .
When Maddie Donovan runs out on her high school sweetheart moments before walking down the aisle, she ends up at a bar in the small town of Revival, Illinois, with only the wedding dress on her back, fifty dollars to her name, and her “good girl” reputation in tatters. Not ready to return to Chicago and face the music, she accepts hot bartender Mitch Riley’s offer to stay at his place. But sharing such close quarters is driving Maddie insane with desire.
Always drink for free. . .
Mitch thinks he’s seen it all—until Maddie strides into his bar in full wedding attire and downs three shots of whiskey. Though the gorgeous knockout seems tough as nails, he also senses her vulnerability. With a troubled past of his own, Mitch has no interest in ties of any kind—yet he can’t help falling for Maddie. Now he’s got to find a way to convince her to give love a second chance.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts I really enjoyed this book. I loved the beginning, nothing sets a scene like a runaway bride, who has sore feet, a dirty ripped up dress and needing a drink badly walking into a bar. I really enjoyed Maddie, except the references about how much she was sinning. At that point she had not done anything wrong. Mitch is just yummy. I love that he keeps Maddie on her toes, that he knows when to push her and when to pull back (well most of the time).

These two are just so cute together. They both would have never thought that the thing they need to help them heal would come in the form of a broken down care and a determined runaway bride who wants a drink.

I can’t wait to see where this series goes. Maddie has 3 brothers that I think will need some very amazing women to wrangle them in.

Kimberly reviews Master Of The Opera #3 by Jeffe Kennedy

Master of Opera 3TITLE: Master Of The Opera Act 3: Phantom Serenade
SERIES #: Master Of The Opera #3
CHARACTERS: Christy & Master
AUTHOR: Jeffe Kennedy
PUBLICATION DATE: 02/06/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the third enticing installment of Jeffe Kennedy’s enthralling “Master of the Opera,” a woman finds herself torn between two powerful lovers-and one reckless passion that leaves her aching for more…After a harrowing night trapped in the tunnels beneath the Sante Fe Opera House, intern Christy Davis finds comfort in the arms of Roman Sanclaro, the opera’s wealthy and gorgeous benefactor. But even as Roman tries to impress her with his lavish lifestyle-and seduce her with his charms-Christy cannot stop obsessing over her other, clandestine lover. Hidden in the labrynths below, a mysterious masked man has become the master of her desires: a sensual but commanding partner who pushes Christy to the very brink of erotic pleasure…and beyond. No other man can compare. But somewhere, watching from the shadows, a fiercely jealous rival threatens to destroy the erotic secret they share.

Haunted by doubts, deception, and danger, Christy must choose between the warnings in her mind, the feelings in her heart…and the wild, forbidden yearnings that set her body on fire.

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts This is the third installment by Jeffe Kennedy’s new book. It is a very short story that is being told in 6 installments. In the first installment we met the characters, in the second we saw Christy and Master come together. In this installment the Master introduces Christy to his world of sexual control.

It is obviously based on Phantom of the Opera with a few differences of course. There is a bit of suspense as well but that is not the true story.

“We can’t do anything else out here,”
she said. “Not tonight.”
She was being so careful with him. Too
careful.
“Don’t,” he bit out as he stalked toward
her. The others
weren’t close enough to overhear, so he could lower his guard
and let some of his fury out.
Cadence shook her head. “Don’t what?”
He wanted to wrap his hands around her.
To pull her close.
No,
I just want to touch her. To feel her.
“Don’t handle me with your damn kid
gloves, Cadence.” The words were snapped. “I’m not some victim you have to
coddle.”
He’d rolled up the sleeves of his dress
shirt—like that had done much good. He was covered with grime and sweat and
plenty of insect bites.
I
fucking hate summers in the South.
Insects were chirping all around them,
and he’d had to dodge snakes in the bushes for most of the evening.
“I never thought you were a victim.”
Cadence turned from him and headed for the car.
She knew he’d follow her. Wasn’t he
always trailing after her?
Wasn’t he the one who always kept the need in check? The
desire he damn well knew they both felt.
After today—after this hell—why couldn’t
they turn to each other for some comfort and release? Let that desire burst
free?
Replace death with pleasure.

“I should have looked for you.” He wrapped his arms
around her and groaned aloud at the warmth and softness of her skin against
his. The rough texture of her nipples against his chest, the dampness of her
hair on his shoulder. “Just touching you makes me crazy. My God, Elise. I
should have known. Fuck, I did know, and I ignored it. I’m so goddamned
stupid.”
“You’re not stupid.”
“I am stupid.” Michael
gripped her hips—fucking luscious, curvy hips—and ran his hands up that amazing
hourglass arc in her waist and over her shoulders, reveling in the magic of
Elise’s hands giving him the same treatment. “I’m stupid because I thought I
could push you away all those years ago and I’d forget and find someone else
who turned me on as much as your hand bumping my knee under a cubicle desk.
Christ, I tried to tell myself it was all innocent, but I lived for every
second.”
“Oh my God.” Elise’s eyes flew wide, her cheeks flushed
in the low light of her bedroom. “I had no idea.”
“You must have, if you
gathered up the nerve to kiss me.” He bent her back, one hand braced between
her shoulders, the other gripping her ass, trailing kisses along her jaw. Their
only-for-tonight agreement be damned, already he didn’t want to let her go.
“I hoped.” She gripped his
shoulders, smiling. “If I’m being honest, all that accidentally bumping your
knee wasn’t so much an accident.”

Drew is eager for the chance to show Carolina he isn’t the boy who hurt her back then, but a man now, with the skills necessary to melt the icy exterior of her cold heart.

REVIEW:
But I will say that in the prior books and chapter one I really didn’t like Drew. I hated him for how he treated Carolina all those years ago. I really hated how he keep bring it up like it was no big deal. But I will say that as the story went on and on I found myself falling for Drew. He is such a sweet guy who realized that what a mistake he made all those years ago. A mistake that was made for all the right reasons. Drew was not the man that Carolina need back then, even if he really wanted to be. But this second time around he is the right man and it is the right time. Convincing Carolina about that might be another story, but Drew is up for the battle.
Carolina is not the same shy girl with a horrible crush on the boy of her dreams. Oh no, Carolina is now a woman who is determined, stubborn and still has a horrible crush on the man of her dreams. It just happens that the man is the same boy she loved so many years ago. But can Carolina finally forgive Drew for the hurt he caused her in college? And can she finally let the walls around her heart to fall and take a chance on Drew?

I just love Jaci’s Play by Play series!!! I am a huge sports fan and so love reading about these hot guys and the women that push them into learning to love. I loved this story and so glad that Drew & Carolina both finally realized what they mean to each other. I am so looking forward to the next story in this series.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Naughty But Nice by New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis

And he knows she cares about him—even if she won’t admit it. So he’ll just turn up the heat until she concedes there’s more between them than this red-hot passion.

Naturally Naughty by New York Times bestselling author Leslie Kelly

To get revenge on the man who humiliated her mother, Kate’s going to seduce that man’s son—the town’s golden boy, John Winfield Jr.—and then leave him drooling in a puddle of lust. However, when she finds herself seduced by a sexy stranger named Jack, little does she guess that the tables have just been turned….

KELLY’S REVIEW:
2.5 Hearts I think this might have been the first time I picked up a Jill Shalvis book and didn’t fall head over heels in love the the characters. I am not sure what it was but I just didn’t care for Cassie at all.

This was my first read of a Leslie Kelly story and while I liked Kate and John I just never felt totally vested in them.

Not to say that these were bad stories or anything. I just didn’t get sucked into the world.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts This is a reprint from 2002 but to be honest I didn’t know that until I pulled up the information to type of this review. There were a couple of small things written that now I realize are dated but a handful of small comments does not take away from the story and 99% of the story is not dated at all.

The story of Cassie and Tag is very engrossing. I enjoyed the way they came together. I story background is interesting and comprehensive. I think Tag is a great character and I love that he has a list of what he wants in a woman and yet realizes that Cassie is none of those things and yet everything he wants. Cassie has issues but she is still fun to read about. She has an interesting way of thinking. Shalvis is one of the best and from this story you can see she had the golden touch even a dozen years ago.

The story of Jake and Kate was just as sweet as the story of her cousin. Jake is a great guy. I enjoyed the instant chemistry they had and the interesting history of the town. The sexual side of this story is a lot more intense than the first story but it is done in a fun and interesting way. Kelly has a much different way of writing then Shalvis does but their writing seems to mesh really well.

I enjoyed these stories very much.

He is the only man who will touch her, cherish her…love her. And the only man she’ll ever submit to.

REVIEW:
Letting Go is Maya’s first book in the Surrender Trilogy and it was a great start to this trilogy. In Letting Go we meet a small group of friends that are all trying to learn to live again. Some are dealing with their demons from the past. Some are dealing with their insecurities of the present. And then there is Joss who is trying to figure out how to live again after the death of her husband.

Joss finally after 3 years of mourning is finally ready to say goodbye and move on with her life and try file the a void that has always been there. But a trip to The House does not go according to plan. Not only does Joss not get what she wants Dash her husband’s best friend is there and whisks her away from what she wants. But just when Joss thinks she will have to work up the courage to walk into the club again Dash throw her for a loop and tells her he will be what she wants, what she needs, what she craves.
The only question is can these two learn to trust each other fully? Or will the ghosts from the past drive them apart.

I totally love Dash. His is so sweet yet at times a total ass. A total ass that is so in love with this woman that he is blind to the things he does and says. Joss knows what she wants, well kind of, and she is willing to do anything it takes to get that.
I really liked this story. Yes there were parts and pieces that were erotic and touches of the BDSM but for the most part I felt like I was reading a great love story. I thank Maya for writing this story. And I am looking forward to Kylie’s story and have high hopes for Chassy & Tate’s book.

If you are a Maya Banks fan I think that you will love this book.

Kimberly reviews The Wishing Tree by MaryBeth Whalen

Wishing TreeTITLE: The Wishing Tree
CHARACTERS: Ivy
AUTHOR: Marybeth Whalen
PUBLICATION DATE: 07/04/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Ivy Marshall, a savvy, determined woman, finds out her husband has cheated on her on the same day her sister’s perfect boyfriend proposes on national television. When Ivy’s mother asks her to return to her family’s beach home to plan her sister’s upcoming wedding, she decides to use the excuse to escape from the pain of her circumstances.
When her return to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, brings her face to face with her former fiance, old feelings rise to the surface and she wonders if there is a future for them. However, her husband has started tweeting his apology to her and doesn’t want to give up on their marriage. As she helps prepare the wishing tree for her sister’s wedding, she must examine her own wishes for the future and decide what love should be…

REVIEW:
3.75 Stars I honestly do not know of one woman who hasn’t had the thoughts that Ivy did in this story. “If I could turn back time, would I?” Ivy has just left her husband to go home to where she was once loved by her childhood sweetheart and back to a family who is upset with her for leaving him to marry someone else. But it is where she needs to be right now so off she goes. And while there she wonders about what could have been and what is.

The problem was it was a very depressing read through most of it. However I understand the quandry. I understand that moment of wondering “what if”. I understand remembering what seemed like a better simpler time.

This is a poignant, soul searching read and any woman can relate to.

Interview & Giveaway with Tammy Falkner

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back the wonderful Tammy Falkner.  We are chatting a little about her newest release The Magic Between Us (Faerie)

Tammy Falkner PhotoTammy, can you please share with us a little about yourself?

I am a mom of 2 boys, married 21 years in May and I am not quite 40 yet!   I’m holding on to 39 for as long as I can.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

No, I didn’t. I quit my job 10 years ago when my youngest was born. I decided to stay home and be a mom. I started reading, and got a story idea and haven’t stopped since. I sold that first book I wrote to a small press and then kept growing.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I still work full time so I write at night or in the evening and weekends.  I see books in scenes, so when I can see a whole scene, I sit down to write it.  All I need to write is quiet and diet soda with a straw!

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

Most challenging – watching for reviews!

Most rewarding – watching for reviews!

Can you please tell us about your latest book? The Magic Between Us Cover

The Magic Between Us (Faerie) is the third book in my faerie series.  It’s the story of Marcus Thorne and Cecelia Hewitt. They’ve been in love forever, but Marcus has to go to the human world to take care of family obligations and leaves Cecelia behind. Six months later, he realizes he can’t live without her and sets out to win her back, but there are some pretty big obstacles in his way.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I had already written vampyres and faeries in Regency England, and I started thinking about what other beings might live and interact with the Ton.  Faeries came to mind, and I had a blast giving them life.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

My WIP is part of a contemporary series called The Reed Brothers.  It all started with a deaf hero and a dyslexic heroine.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I am a HUGE Colleen Hoover fan.  The Slammed series is my favorite of 2013.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

I spent a few years writing as Lydia Dare along with Ava Stone, and when you write with someone, you pick up a lot of their writer quirks. I’m pretty sure some of those stuck.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’m waiting not-so-patiently for Colleen Hoover’s next book!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks so much for having me!  I really appreciate it!

BlindsidedTITLE: Blindsided
SERIES #: Sisterhood #22
CHARACTERS: Maggie & Myra
AUTHOR: Fern Michaels
PUBLICATION DATE: 12/31/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Ladies On Fire

Myra Rutledge isn’t ready to mothball the Sisterhood just yet. When Maggie Spitzer, former editor-in-chief of the Post and an honorary member of the Sisterhood, arrives with a new mission in mind, the Vigilantes are soon gathering in their war room once more. While catching up on each other’s lives, they plan a brilliant campaign against a duo of corrupt judges running a moneymaking racket that sends young offenders to brutal boot camps, often on trumped-up charges. Their enemies are powerful and ruthless, but the Sisterhood have their own formidable allies – including former President Martine Connor. Once their scheme takes off, the guilty won’t know what hit them. . .

REVIEW:
I could not finish this book but I think it was my own error. I requested this book from NetGalley because I have read other Fern Michaels books and while I think she has an odd way about her writing I usually enjoy the story. However, this book is the 22nd in a series called Sisterhood. The problem is this story is about the characters getting back together and restarting some type of operation they worked on before and while I tried I couldn’t understand the whole history of these characters.

Now I think if you are a fan of Fern Michaels and have read the other books you would probably enjoy it since this would be the 22nd in the series you have read. So I gave it 3 stars to split the error on my part down the middle.

Kelly reviews Believe by Erin McCarthy

BelieveTITLE: Believe
SERIES #: True Believer
CHARACTERS: Phoenix & Robin
AUTHOR: Erin McCarthy
PUBLICATION DATE: January 21, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Robin used to be a party girl… until she got black out drunk and woke up in bed with her best friend’s boyfriend. Now she’s faced with being THAT girl, and couldn’t be more disgusted with herself. She can’t even tell her friends the reason for her sudden sobriety and she avoids everyone until she meets Phoenix—quiet, tattooed, and different in every way that’s good and oh, so bad…

Phoenix is two days out of jail when he meets Robin at his cousin’s house, and he knows that he has no business talking to her, but he’s drawn to her quiet demeanor, sweet smile, and artistic talent. She doesn’t care that he’s done time, or that he only has five bucks to his name, and she supports his goal to be a tattoo artist.

But Phoenix knows Robin has a secret, and that it’s a naïve dream to believe that his record won’t catch up with them at some point. Though neither is prepared for the explosive result when the past collides with the present…

REVIEW:
I think that I have come to the conclusion that New Adult is just not for me. I don’t feel any connection with the characters and that makes it really hard to read the book. I did like that Robin finally owned up to the things that she did and that she is trying to make a better herself better. But I guess it is the mom in me that thinks the whole time “well if you didn’t put yourself in that situation in the first place you would have these issues”. But then again if the character didn’t have all of this drama then there would be no story. I think fans of this series will enjoy Robin & Phoenix’s story. But for me I think that I am going to have to hang up my hat on this series.
