Mustloveottersjpg

Hollie Porter is the chairwoman of Generation Disillusioned: at twenty-five years old, she’s saddled with a job she hates, a boyfriend who’s all wrong for her, and a vexing inability to say no. She’s already near her breaking point, so when one caller too many kicks the bucket during Hollie’s 911 shift, she cashes in the Sweethearts’ Spa & Stay gift certificate from her dad and heads to Revelation Cove, British Columbia. One caveat: she’s going solo. Any sweethearts will have to be found on site.

Hollie hopes to find her beloved otters in the wilds of the Great White North, but instead she’s providing comic relief for staff and guests alike. Even Concierge Ryan, a former NHL star with bad knees and broken dreams, can’t stop her from stumbling from one (mis)adventure to another. Just when Hollie starts to think that a change of venue doesn’t mean a change in circumstances, the island works its charm and she starts to think she might have found the rejuvenation she so desperately desires. But then an uninvited guest crashes the party, forcing her to step out of the discomfort zone where she dwells and save the day … and maybe even herself in the process.

Jennifer’s Review of Must Love Otters

Review (4 Stars): Must Love Otters was a very sweet and charming read that had me laughing at the things that kept going wrong in Hollie’s life.  She has a dead-end boyfriend, a job that she hates and wishes that her life was vastly different than it is.  When her dad gives her a gift certificate for a weekend getaway, she decides that this is what she needs to get her life in order. What she finds on this trip of self-discovery is more than she bargained for and is exactly what she needed.

I liked Hollie because she was honest, fun and reminded me of what life was like when we were in our twenties.  She was trying to find her place in the world, but everything she did ended with hilarious results.  Must Love Otters is a delightful and enchanting read that will keep you entertained and wanting more from this great author.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Air Force pilot Caleb Kelly has come back home with one mission in mind—to propose to the woman whose letters and lucky charm helped him survive his deployment in Afghanistan. But when he finds their apartment empty with a note saying she’s left him, he arrives at her mother’s house in rural Alabama less than a week before Kourtney is about to marry another man. Now he’s out to win her heart again and gets some unexpected assistance from her younger sister, Alex.

Alex Leadbetter has always thought Caleb was too good for her manipulative, social-climbing sister. She had assumed Kourtney’s identity to write letters to him and keep his spirits up until he returned home to the hard truth, never expecting to fall in love with him along the way. After he shows up in town, she convinces him that the best way to get Kourtney back is to make her think he’s fallen for someone new — her. But when a fake romance becomes all too real, her deception may leave them both grounded

REVIEW:
I had not read this author before so I was unsure what the story would be like but it sounded interesting. I really enjoyed it. It is a sweet romance. At first I was unsure because the characters seemed so young and immature but some how they grow on you. The sweetness of Alex and her crush on Caleb and all she does to make him just see that she is in the world too. Caleb is the one I enjoyed reading about. He seemed to mature in the book not just fall in love.

This is a quick read but with all the emotions a romance needs to reel you in. The only problem? I read this one first and now I want to go back and find out what happened to the previously written about brothers. I can’t wait to read about the other 4 brothers too.

Book Spotlight & Review: Thrown for a Curve by Sugar Jamison

Thrown For A Curve

WHEN YOU’RE A big girl

Cherri has often wished she were thin and graceful like a ballerina instead of being a six-foot-tall blonde with curves that require serious caution. Surely a charming Irishman like her new boss Colin, with his throaty brogue and to-die-for bod, would never go for someone like Cherri. Unless maybe he’s looking for the exact opposite of a delicate lass?

there’s more of you to love

When Colin hired Cherri to work in his furniture-restoration shop, he had his eyes, first and foremost, on her artistic talents. But now he can’t help but see Cherri for the lush, spirited beauty that she is…and, soon enough, he finds himself mixing business with pleasure. But Cherri turns out to be more vulnerable than she appears. Is she in need of more than Colin can give? Or could it be that a feeling stronger than lust has him thrown for a curve?

EXCERPT

“Colin?”

He looked up at the sound of a female voice calling his name. Cherri stood in the doorway of his shop, bundled up in a hat, her homemade scarf, and a puffy coat. His heart malfunctioned at the sight of her, performing some kind of stupid squeezing thumping thing.

Something was wrong. She had never stepped foot in his territory before.

“Cherri?”

He took two steps toward her before stopping. She held some sort of wooden box in her hands. It was in pieces, and judging by the look on her face she wasn’t too far from falling to pieces herself.

Don’t cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry, his mind chanted. He wasn’t sure he could take it today.

She looked unsure for a moment, taking a step backward. “Are you busy? I—I don’t want to bother you if you are.”

“Come here, love.” He stayed frozen as he watched her come toward him. Even in a too-puffy coat that hid far too much of her body, she was lovely to look at as she crossed his shop.

“I can’t pay you much,” she said, handing the pieces of the broken box to him. “But do you think you might be able to make it play again?”

She looked so innocent, so heartbroken, as if somebody had stomped on her favorite toy. “You don’t have to pay me anything, you daft girl.” With his head he motioned toward the stool he kept at his workbench. “Sit. I’ll take a look at it.”

“Thank you.” She smiled, flashing him those pretty dimples of hers. “Baba was so upset that she dropped it. I want to make it whole for her.”

He had yet to examine the box or to focus on her words. He was too busy watching her strip out of her winter gear. Under it she wore a pink cardigan with a white tank top that was just low-cut enough that he could make out the tops of her buttermilk-colored breasts. A voice, probably his conscience, ordered his eyes upward.

She’s not what you need right now.

His gaze traveled to her head and the ugly wool hat she wore on it. It was the last to go, and he stared as her rowdy mane of golden hair tumbled to her shoulders. She really had no idea how beautiful she was. No clue. He had heard her say that she was built like a lumberjack but all he saw was a tall curvy goddess. Even with her cheeks red from the cold and her eyes glossy from the wind she was lovely. It made him forget that she was the last person he should be attracted to.

“What?” Her emerald-colored eyes widened and her cheeks darkened with embarrassment. “If you tell me I have snot on my face I’ll die.”

“No.” He chuckled. “I was wondering if you walked here. You look a bit like a Cherri Popsicle.”

That I would like to lick.

He mentally castigated himself for that one. He lost all common sense around her.

“I did walk here. But I walk everywhere and it’s not be- cause I own the world’s shittiest car. Walking helps me keep my big bottom from spreading into a huge one.”

But I like fat-bottomed girls.

Colin kept his mouth shut to make sure his inappropriate response didn’t come out. An image of her very curvy be- hind shot into his mind and . . . Knock it off! He shook his head and finally looked at the box. “So you’ve brought me a music box.” He studied it for a few moments. It was factory- made, mostly cheap wood. There was nothing spectacular about it except for the intricate pink roses painted on the lid. That alone made the box worth saving.

“Beautiful.” He glanced up at Cherri. “You wouldn’t happen to know who painted this? This is some of the best detail work I’ve ever seen.”

She beamed at him, dimples flashing, skin glowing. He gulped. “I painted it.”

“I don’t believe you.”

Her eyes lit. “Dorky art major. Remember? My painting skills make up for my lack of beauty and grace.”

“You’re very beautiful, Cherri,” he said without thinking. “I don’t think you realize how exquisite you are.”

“Exquisite?” She laughed that deep throaty laugh of hers, and heat unfurled in his gut. “You must get a lot of ass.”

“What?” Her statement knocked him off guard.

“Ass? Tail? Panties dropping? Any of those ring a bell? I’m saying that you must have a lot of women trying to have sex with you. Probably some men, too.”

The blood rushed out of his brain as soon as the word sex formed on her lips.

Shit.

She was just twenty-two years old. And in the two years he had known her, he had never seen her date. He had never seen her with a guy. She was mature for her age but she had this innocence around her. And yet something about hearing those words come from her mouth made his remaining brain cells malfunction. She was the only woman he had a hard time keeping his cool around. He was more than just attracted to her and he wasn’t sure why.

“For fuck’s sake, Cherri, where the hell did that question come from?”

She waved a dismissing hand at him. “Oh, don’t tell me you don’t know. The brogue, the pretty words, not to mention the way you look, all make you deity-like with your sex appeal. You probably don’t have to work hard to get women to drop their drawers.”

No, he never did. Using his hands and getting women to fall into bed were the only things he excelled at. He was like his pop that way. It took running into an ex whose name he couldn’t remember to show him that. So many women. So many empty I love yous. It never took away that empty feeling in his chest. He promised himself he wouldn’t say those words again unless he meant it.

“But you don’t have to use any of that charm on me. I won’t fall for it. Well . . . Not too hard,” he heard her say when he tuned back into the conversation.

Jennifer’s Review of Thrown for a Curve

Review (4.5 Stars): I loved every minute of Cherri and Colin’s story! Cherri was absolutely adorable and I enjoyed the fact that she was a girl with curves compared to several other romance heroines that I’ve read recently.  She was smart and sassy but was loyal to the people that she cared about in her life.  Colin used to be a “player” in the past but had become tired of that lonely life and wasn’t expecting to find love with Cherri.  I liked that her personality and artistic talent appealed to him as well as her looks and I kept hearing Colin Farrell’s voice in my head whenever he was talking to Cherri.

I loved Ms. Jamison’s writing style and its humor had me laughing out loud. She made these characters come to life and this is one of my favorite books of the year.  Can’t wait to read more from the Perfect Fit series and Ms. Jamison has become one of my favorite new authors.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts What is one to do when the wolves coming knocking on your door? If you are Ellie, you run. You run and leave everyone you care about behind. But that was the wrong move. Because Jay is not going to let Ellie run.

Another great story from Katie. Sensual Surrender has a quick start and just keeps going until the very end. Jay and Ellie are a great couple. Although I wish that Ellie would have confided in Jay before she ran. But that was part of what made this story so good. This was a quick read too. You get sucked into the story that you don’t want to put the book down until you get to the end.

If you enjoyed the first book in the Serafin, Sin City series you will enjoy Jay & Ellie’s story. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.

Jennifer’s Review of Midsummer Sweetheart

Review (5 Stars): This was a great story for me.  Katrin was trying to get away from an abusive relationship when the opportunity to become a nurse in Skidoo Bay opened up for her.  To get to this rural town several hours away, Katrin agrees to accept a ride with Erik Lindstrom, who just happens to be a friend of the family.  He is on his way to a new job in law enforcement and is surprised when he meets Katrin for the first time.  She isn’t at all what he expected and they are both caught off guard by the physical chemistry that they have with one another.  Katrin will need someone to look out for her because her past relationship isn’t quite ready to let go of her yet.

Ms. Regnery is a new author for me but she is definitely one to watch.  Katrin and Erik’s story was very romantic and I loved that they seemed to bring out the best in each other.  Katrin had been through so much already with her abusive ex-boyfriend and I liked that she tried so hard to stay strong and fight for her independence.  She was determined to make a fresh start in this new town and she never planned on caring about Erik.  I believe that people come into your life for a reason and Erik was definitely someone that she needed by her side.

Erik was definitely a strong alpha male who would do anything to protect Katrin and you could see that whenever they were together.  He originally had the attitude that he would keep things casual and wouldn’t let anyone get to him until he met Katrin.  He wanted to experience love but was afraid to give his heart away and I’m glad that Katrin was the one woman who could show him what it meant to be truly loved by someone.  Midsummer Sweetheart was a very touching romance and I would love to read more from Ms. Regnery.

Molly Harper’s Jane Jameson Series

Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs

(Jane Jameson #1)

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that’s sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She’s forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn’t enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What’s a nice undead girl to do?

*****

Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men

(Jane Jameson #2)

Following Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs, the second in a hilarious, smart, sexy romantic series about an out-of-work librarian who is turned into a vampire.

With her best friend Zeb’s Titanic-themed wedding looming ahead, new vampire Jane Jameson struggles to develop her budding relationship with her enigmatic sire, Gabriel. It seems unfair that she’s expected to master undead dating while dealing with a groom heading for a nuptial nervous breakdown, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and the ugliest bridesmaid dress in the history of marriage.

Meanwhile, the passing of Jane’s future step-grandpa puts Grandma Ruthie back on the market. Her new fiancÉ, Wilbur, has his own history of suspiciously dead spouses, and he may or may not have died ten years ago. Half-Moon Hollow’s own Black Widow has finally met her match.

Should Jane warn her grandmother of Wilbur’s marital habits or let things run their course? Will Jane always be an undead bridesmaid, never the undead bride?

*****

Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever

(Jane Jameson #3)

Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson’s sexy sire, Gabriel, has always been unpredictable. But the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow — alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.

Now the children’s-librarian-turned-vampire is reviving with plenty of Faux Type O, some TLC from her colorful friends and family, and her plans for a Brave New Jane. Step One: Get her newly-renovated occult bookstore off the ground. Step Two: Support her best friend, Zeb, and his werewolf bride as they prepare for the impending birth of their baby . . . or litter. Step Three: Figure out who’s been sending her threatening letters, and how her hostile pen pal is tied to Gabriel. Because for this nice girl, surviving a broken heart is becoming a matter of life and undeath…

Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors

(Jane Jameson #4)

Just as Jane Jameson’s unlife seems to be stabilizing, fate sinks its fangs firmly into her butt. Despite her near-phobia of all things marital, her no-frills nighttime nuptials to her sexy boyfriend Gabriel are coming along smoothly. But the road to wedded bliss gets bumpy when a teenage acquaintance is fatally wounded in front of Jane’s shop and she turns him to save his life. The Council pronounces Jane responsible for the newborn vamp until he can control his thirst.

Jane’s kitchen at River Oaks barely holds enough Faux Type O to satiate the cute teen’s appetite and maintain Gabriel’s jealous streak at a slow simmer. As if keeping her hyperactive childe from sucking the blood out of the entire neighborhood isn’t enough to deal with, the persnickety ghost of Jane’s newly deceased Grandma Ruthie has declared a war on the fanged residents of River Oaks. Suddenly,
choosing monogrammed cocktail napkins and a cake that she can’t eat seems downright relaxing in comparison.

Tensions inside the house are growing…and outside, a sinister force is aiming a stake straight for the center of Gabriel’s heart. Most brides just have to worry about choosing the right dress, but Jane fears that at this rate, she’ll never make it down the aisle for the wedding all nice girls dream of…

Is it just sizzling sex, or could an Italian prince with a tragic past fall for a take-no-prisoners American?

REVIEW:
2.5 Hearts This was just “ok” for me. A little different but kind of cheesy really. I never really felt any chemistry between the characters and there was just too much bickering. It was a short read so I won’t make this too long. It just didn’t do it for me.

Sexy as sin and hot as hell, these firefighters smolder with passion and burn with desire. . .

“Five-Alarm Masquerade” by Stacey Kennedy
With her home destroyed in a fire, Abby has only the muscular arms of a rock hard firefighter to hold her up and the dream of blazing hot nights of pure erotic pleasure to keep her going. . .

KELLY’S REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts All three of these novella were very steamy, sexy yet sweet reads.  I won’t go into much detail as the are novella’s and I would give too much away.  But let me just say that Cole & Hannah are burning up the airways.  Clay & Maysen will break all the rules on short town visits.  And Gavin & Abby will make you re-think that sexy gift you just got. I really liked all three stories.  If you are looking for a few steamy quick reads you should pick up a copy of Hot Shots.  I mean come on ladies.  Hot Firemen?  Need I say more??

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
“Fired Up” by Anne Marsh
4 Hearts Holy Heck this was HOT (pun intended). This was a quick story of about 55 pages and yet I was engrossed. Cole is downright irresistible and I wouldn’t mind meeting him in the words for a few days and nights.

“Sizzle” by Lynn LaFleur
4 Hearts Another HOT story. This is most certainly in the erotica genre and if the first story didn’t give a reader that impression this one would. But it is a really good story. I enjoyed the characters very much. Clay is hot and very male but what I liked about him was he could tell how Maysen wanted control at some points and he let her. His ego was not affected which was really hot if you ask me.

“Five-Alarm Masquerade” by Stacey Kennedy
3.5 Funny thing is I picked this book because of this author and figured I would read the other authors until I got to Kennedy but as much as I enjoyed this story it did not stand up to the other two. Ok now do not get me wrong. I did enjoy this one. If it was a stand alone I would have been thrilled with it but having read the other two it was my least favorite.

I enjoyed every single one of these erotic stories. They were a great combination. If you are a fan of erotica then you will enjoy these short stories, and it doesn’t hurt that they are about fire fighters.

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts This is a very different book than I thought it would be. While a quick read it is very interesting. It has a big surprise (other reviews give it away if you want to know) that really makes this story different than most romances.

I liked Davy. He really has a lot of potential as a character. Megan is just ok for me. I think her story might have been told a little better but that it not to say she isn’t interesting. Looking for a quick different read than this is the book for you.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A man she thought she knew. A passion beyond her wildest fantasies…

When Ryan Beecher returns home after a long deployment overseas, Lexy barely recognizes her husband. The man who left Texas for Afghanistan was cruel and abusive. The man who comes back to her is a badly injured stranger with amnesia—and no memory of their life together.

Lexy can’t believe how much Ryan has changed. The wounded marine is now gentle, caring and tender. And his touch awakens yearnings she’s never felt before. As he takes them both to the point of no return, can Lexy trust this lover who seems to live only for her pleasure…as he seeks his salvation in her healing embrace?

A poignant and erotic story of longing, secrets and second chances, Liberty explores the limits of desire and the boundaries of love.

REVIEW:
I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting in how different from any other story I have read. The characters are enjoyable. I had a few problems with some of the things that were or were not done (DNA test, anyone?). But the story is so sweet and Ryan is so lovable it is hard not to enjoy him. I can see why Lexy is so scared and stand-offish but she comes into her own so completely that it is nice to watch.

I can’t see why this is considered erotic but it is poignant and loving and the romantic. I really love this authors style (as Ginger or Sugar Jamison) and can’t wait for her next book.
