A Blood Brothers Novel

REVIEW:
Great start to Ms. Zanetti’s new series. The Blood Brothers series is a spin off of the Sin Brother’s series. While you don’t have to read the Sin Brother’s first I would recommend it!! There is a lot that happens in that series that I believe is going to have a huge impact on the Blood Brothers.
Deadly Silence introduces us to Ryker, Denver and Heath. These three have been friends and family since they bonded in the boys home they lived in. And they just happened to be some of Dr. Madison’s pet projects.
There is a lot that is going on in this story. We have multiple storylines happening at once, but Ms. Zanetti does a great job of balancing each of these stories and give us answers to almost everything (because she has to leave some questions for us).
I really liked Ryker & Zara. Ryker is the dark mysterious bad boy who has a big heart that every girl wishes she could find. Zara is the perfect match for Ryker. She is not a pushover and she challenges Ryker every step of the way.
Of course we have to talk about the other Jones’ brothers Heath & Denver. They are just as dark and mysterious but there is something about each of these guys that will shock us and possibly even shock their brother too.
I am looking forward to seeing where Ms. Zanetti is going to take this series and how much she is going to make us suffer!

AUTHOR: Kendra Elliot
PUBLICATION DATE: October 25, 2016

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In the first Rogue Vows novella, Zane and Stevie are about to get an unexpected wedding present…and it’s a deadly one.

It should be the happiest weekend of Officer Stevie Taylor’s life. She’s finally going to marry Police Chief Zane Duncan and live happily ever after in Solitude, Oregon. But all wedding plans grind to a halt when a dead body is found at a nearby campground. A vacationing A-list TV actor has been murdered…and all hell is about to break loose.

When it comes to a celebrity murder, everyone has a motive—and everyone wants a piece of the action. As news media and paparazzi swarm their sleepy town, Stevie and Zane must dig deep to untangle a web of lies, dirty little secrets, and betrayals—and uncover the killer. But the closer they get to the truth, the deadlier their investigation becomes. And if they don’t act quickly, ’Til death do us part may come sooner than they thought.

REVIEW:
I was so excited when Ms. Elliot and Ms. Leigh announced that they were going back to Rogue River. From the end of the last Rogue River/Rogue Winter series I was hoping the ladies would revisit this tiny little Oregon town.
It was great to be back in the city of Rogue River, Oregon even if it was a murder that brought us back. A murder of a high profile super star just turned this sleepy little town upside down. There is so much that happens in this little novella. Just when I thought I had it all figured out Ms. Elliot throws a curve in the road. So many unanswered questions!! I will have to wait for Ms. Leigh’s book (book 2 in this series) to hopefully get the answers I seek.
If you are a fan of either of these ladies you need to pick up the Rogue Series (there are three, but they all focus on the city of Rogue River and the Taylor family)!! Can’t wait to see what is next.

A Blood Brothers Novel

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts This is the first in the second series wrapped around brothers designed by Dr Madison. If you have no clue what I am talking about then please go back and find Rebecca’s Sin Brothers series. While you do not need to read it to start this series it will help and trust me the stories are worth the read!!!

The Blood Brothers are Ryker, Heath and Denver are on the run from Dr Madison and Sheriff Cobb. Zara is a simple paralegal secretary who has a heart of gold and somehow she and Ryker begin an affair but it soon turns into more romance and more suspense to make this romantic suspense novel a wonderful read.

I will say I enjoyed the Sin Brothers a bit more than I enjoyed Ryker. He has a lot of different facets about him… he is alpha for sure and protective, he loves his brothers beyond belief and he can be controlling and downright obnoxious at times but when it comes to his brothers, Zara and Greg his heart turns to jelly and I found myself enjoying him. Zara is sweet but she has the heart of a mama bear. When you mess with what is hers she will stop at nothing to protect them.

I really enjoyed this story. I am thrilled that the story continues with the new brothers and it sounds like there are a number of brothers to come in the future (thank goodness). I am not sure who’s story is up next but I sure hope it is Heath’s. I have a feeling he may turn into my next book crush.

Kimberly reviews Flawless by Heather Graham

flawlessTITLE: Flawless
CHARACTERS: Craig & Kieran
AUTHOR: Heather Graham

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Everyone goes to Finnegan’s…

It’s a pub in lower Manhattan, run by the Finnegan family for generations and now owned by Kieran and her three brothers. Kieran Finnegan, who still works there whenever she can, has become a criminal psychologist—a fitting reaction, perhaps, to her less-than-lawful past.

Meanwhile, New York’s Diamond District has been hit by a rash of thefts. No one’s been killed—until now. FBI agent Craig Frasier is brought in to investigate; he and Kieran meet at a jewelry store in the middle of a heist. She’s there to “unsteal” a flawless stone taken by her light-fingered youngest brother as an act of vengeance. He’s there to stop the gang.

But the police and FBI soon discover that there are two gangs of diamond thieves, the original and a copycat group of killers. And the second group seems to think their scheme is as flawless as the stones they steal.

Thrown together by circumstance, drawn together by attraction, Kieran and Craig both end up working on the case. Unfortunately, there’s more and more evidence that, somehow, the pub is involved. Because everyone goes to Finnegan’s…

REVIEW:
This is a new series by Graham. I am a huge fan of her Krewe Of Hunters series which has a bit of paranormal (ghosts) to the mystery. This does not have that paranormal it is just pure suspense.

I loved the Irish NYC family right from the start. They are so messed up and yet have a heart of gold. They are trying to go straight from their illegal activities in the past but when her brother and best friend decide one more job needs to be done Kieran has to clean up the mess.

I really enjoyed this story. I liked Kieran very much and while I was never really head over heels for her relationship with Craig the suspense was well written and the family is great. I look forward to more in this series… well I hope it ends up being a series.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
MURDER IN EDEN

Felled by a cowardly shot to the back, Stanton Youngblood has just enough time before he dies to leave a single clue to his killer’s identity: the word Wayne, scrawled in his own blood.

That word means everything to his widow. Leigh Youngblood was once Leigh Wayne, but she left her wealthy family behind thirty years ago when she fell in love with Stanton, a betrayal the Waynes have never forgiven. Now she publicly vows to discover which of her siblings thinks money and power are enough to cover up a murder.

Back in town to find his father’s killer, prodigal son Brody finds his search for justice comes with an unexpected ray of light. He’s loved Talia Champion forever, but when she said she couldn’t marry him, he left town and never looked back. This time it’s Talia who needs him, and it isn’t in him to deny her anything.

But the killer still has a score to settle, and if that means spilling more blood—so much the better.

REVIEW:
This book has a little bit of everything. A bit of romance and mystery. I really enjoy a mystery where I can not figure out who the killer is. I spent many pages thinking it was one person, changing to another and then back to a different person.
I also enjoyed the romance. It was so emotional and even got me choked up.
I can see this story being made into a made for tv movie. Very well written. I look forward to the next one.

CHARACTERS: Zane Duncan & Stevie Taylor
AUTHOR: Kendra Elliot
PUBLICATION DATE: October 7, 2014

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In a small town like Solitude, Oregon, keeping a secret can be murder.

Stevie Taylor had left her sleepy Oregon hometown for a more exciting life. But after her police chief father passes away, the LAPD cop returns to Solitude and signs on as a patrol officer, hoping to heal from her loss…and from the horrific things she’s seen in the city.

In Solitude, everyone knows everyone else’s business—and, to Stevie’s dismay, local gossip soon ties her to the new police chief and a man from her past. Tragedy then shakes up the small town when a teenager dies after taking a strange new drug. Now, the seasoned LA cop must hunt down the dealer while investigating the most important case of her life, one that could divide her tranquil town.

The first of four thrilling Rogue River novellas, On Her Father’s Grave launches a new romantic suspense series from Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts On Her Father’s Grave is the first novella in Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh’s combined new novella series The Rogue River Novella Series. And like any good novella the story was over way too quickly.

We open On Her Father’s Grave with Stevie Taylor returning home after the passing of her father and her getting tired of life in LA. But not all is smooth sailing on Stevie’s first day of work or the day before her first day of work. The death of a local teen has everyone on edge.

Zane Duncan finds himself through into the role as Chief of police (and not by choice). But what can he do other than honor the man who treated him like one of his own. Zane knows something is not right with Hunter’s death but finding the answers are not that easy. Could there be more more to this than just a kid overdosing on a new drug?

This was a great story and like any novella I review I can’t give you much more then I loved it. And I can’t wait for the next installment by Ms. Leigh to find out what happens next in the quiet little town of Solitude Oregon. I do hope that we will get to see more of Zane & Stevie in future books too. I want know what is happening with them. If you enjoy romance suspense you really should at On Her Father’s Grave to your read list.

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts This is a strong first book in this new novella series being released by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. Though a quick read, you get a glimpse into a lot of the goings on in the town of Solitude and its shows you that everything is not as peachy as it seems. Stevie comes back to town after being gone for many years and she’s instantly a likeable character who hits the ground running. I can’t say I love her just yet, but the foundation is there. Zane, I fell in love with instantly. He’s a solid, good guy and I’m rooting for him all the way. He’s smart and sees things that don’t mesh well and takes steps to uncover some of the truths in town. There are a lot of mysteries happening that I can’t wait to see come to light. The writing in this book was great, the read was easy and flowed well and I enjoyed all of the characters. I’ll definitely be following this series.

Josie is shocked that Shane is back. But she is not sure what to do. Does she trust Shane again? Not only with her safety but with her heart? Or does she walk away and never look back.

Awesome start to a new series for Rebecca Zanetti. Forgotten Sins book 1 in the Sins Brothers Series is great. Rebecca creates a world of secrets, lies, science, and super soldiers. I will admit as I was reading Forgotten Sins and the characters talk about all their special talents I was thinking along the lines of normal paranormal story lines, you know weres, shifters, vamps. But I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns in this book. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
Rebecca Zanetti is one of my favorite authors. I have loved every book she has written but this book just didn’t have the same feel that the other books had. I say that having given the book 4 stars so please know this is still a really good book. I am just used to 5 star books from Zanetti. I love her Dark Predators series and have fallen madly in love with the cowboys from her Maverick Montana series so I was surprised that Shane just didn’t have the same feel that her other guys normally do.

The story is interesting and has a bit of a twist that I can see would be unexpected to some. However as a fan of Christine Feehan’s it was not a big surprise to me. The story is good, the writing is good and the characters are good. I just can’t say they are GREAT like I usually do with her books. If you like the romantic suspense genre then certainly read this book. But just don’t base all of Zanetti’s books on this one because while 4 stars means it is good any other series you pick up from Zanetti will be all 5 stars.

Neither knowing how the other truly feels. But when Sierra is attacked at work Hayden realizes that life is short and now is his time to make a move.

That is all you get. Because this is a novella my review is short too. But I did love this novella and can’t wait to see what Katie has in store for us next.

Guest Reviewer Shannon K reviews Gray Mountain by John Grisham

gray-mountainTITLE: Gray Mountain
CHARACTERS: Dominick, Samantha & Mattie
AUTHOR: John Grisham
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/21/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
John Grisham has a new hero . . . and she’s full of surprises

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer’s career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track—until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the “lucky” associates. She’s offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she’d get her old job back.

In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about. Mattie Wyatt, lifelong Brady resident and head of the town’s legal aid clinic, is there to teach her how to “help real people with real problems.” For the first time in her career, Samantha prepares a lawsuit, sees the inside of an actual courtroom, gets scolded by a judge, and receives threats from locals who aren’t so thrilled to have a big-city lawyer in town. And she learns that Brady, like most small towns, harbors some big secrets.

Her new job takes Samantha into the murky and dangerous world of coal mining, where laws are often broken, rules are ignored, regulations are flouted, communities are divided, and the land itself is under attack from Big Coal. Violence is always just around the corner, and within weeks Samantha finds herself engulfed in litigation that turns deadly.

REVIEW:
This is a new novel by a terrific lawyer turned author. In the coal mines of Appalachia, bad things are happening. Frightened coal workers are trying to take on the big coal companies. They are represented by a hot shot lawyer named Dominick Gray. This is a tale of intrigue and loss. The complicated lives of the workers battling for benefits due them because of black lung depict a poor, but strong community of the tough folks who must fight against the strongest segment of society. The legal aid business is booming with plaintiffs. The group of legal aid lawyers, with help from Dominick, are busy trying to help these helpless people. Dirty tricks, and now murder, are problems that they face in battling mammoth companies. If you like legal thrillers, and particularly Grisham, this book is for you. It is an edge-of-your-seat, heart wrenching read. I highly recommend it!

darkest-journeyTITLE: Darkest Journey
SERIES #: Krewe Of Hunters #20
CHARACTERS: Ethan & Charlene
AUTHOR: Heather Graham
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/27/16
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
They say it’s about the journey, not the destination…

Charlene “Charlie” Moreau is back in St. Francisville, Louisiana, to work on a movie. One night, she stumbles across the body of a Civil War reenactor, the second murdered in two days. Charlie is shocked to learn that her father—a guide on the Journey, a historic paddle wheeler that’s sponsoring the reenactment—is a suspect.

Meanwhile, Ethan Delaney, new to the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters, is brought in on the case. He and Charlie have a history of their own, dating back to when he rescued her from a graveyard—led there by a Confederate ghost!

Charlie arranges a Mississippi River cruise so she and Ethan can get close to the reenactors, find out who knows what, who has a motive. They discover a lot more as they resume the relationship that ended ten years ago…but might die, along with them, on the Journey.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts I am so happy to say that the Krewe is back to the way it should be. One of the best parts of Graham’s books is the history she adds. The story isn’t real but the places and history are. The stories make me want to jump on a plane and go visit parts of this wonderful country that I didn’t previously know the history of… or at minimum the books make me want to look up the information on the internet. But the last two books just didn’t have that. They were set on a cruise line that left little room for history.

But in this story we are back to the Civil War era and the background story is really interesting… enough I went online for a bit more information. I also enjoyed that we had a bit more of a ghostly presence than we have had lately.

I liked Charlie. She stood her ground when she needed to but was also a good daughter and friend. I liked that Charlie and Ethan had a previous relationship and yet were not lovers. I also enjoyed that the characters from the last two books were back in more than a passing moment.

Graham is a master of romance with a historical feel and it is great that she is back at it in this story.

#TBT Kimberly’s review of If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones ~ Catch Up From The Beginning

TITLE: If I Were You
AUTHOR: Lisa Renee Jones
PUBLICATION DATE:   08/24/12
ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
How it began…
One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expires.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.
Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…
Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.
All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

REVIEW:
The catchline of this book is “Fifty Shades of Grey meets Basic Instinct” and while I have never seen Basic Instinct I have read Fifty Shades and I can see the comparison of sorts. And since I would normally not compare one book to another the catchline, in and of itself, seems to show the author wants the comparison. If Fifty Shades was a book you enjoyed then this will be too.

Yes, both of the series take place in the BDSM lifestyle but let me say first off this book in the series did not have that introduced until the very end even though I am sure the next two books in the series will add more of that lifestyle in. Where I can see the most comparison is in the characters more than the story itself. At least the characters of the men. Both Christian and Chris are both very haunting and lost characters. There is a background there that we have yet to understand yet they are both so gentle and protective of the women they are with. There is just something that draws them to the reader.

Where the comparison stops is the women. While in Fifty Shades Ana is a innocent who has not known of this lifestyle, Sara has been reading the journal of Rebecca and is finding the lifestyle alluring. But, Sara has more in mind then just the lifestyle, she has become obsessed with making sure that the author is ok and in doing so has thrown herself into the world of art, sex and suspense.

I am sure this book will get a lot of the comparisons I talked about above and so many are going to say the author has jumped on the bandwagon (which I actually thought too before I started reading it) but I want to say that this book would probably have made a big impact itself if it had been released first. And since three books have been written in this series I do wonder how far along the author was already into these books before Fifty Shades even came out. I hesitate to call this book erotica because while parts are erotic there is nothing in it that a contemporary romance doesn’t have depending on the author (once again this is only based on book one), however, there are some pretty steamy sex scenes.

If you are a fan of romance, romantic suspense or erotica you should pick up this book. Will it have the same impact of Fifty Shades in the world? Probably not. Will you enjoy this book as much as Fifty Shades? I would think so (or at least close). Will you recommend it the next time someone says they are done reading Fifty Shades? NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
