REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts I had to think about this review for a little while. I really love Gena Showalter’s book. I absolutely love Justine Eyre as a narrator. And I really did enjoy this story. But when I got to the end I kept looking at my phone (because that is where my audio books plays) and thought “That’s it??”. Yep sure enough that was the end of the book. To me it felt just a little rushed but yet it was wrapped up nicely. My next thought was there will be another books with Kyrin & Mia, but as far as I can see they don’t get another book.

So I am on the fence. I like the book. Loved Justine reading to me. Loved Kyrin. Liked Mia. Loved the side characters. But was left wanting more. I wanted more Kyrin time. I wanted to see more Kyrin & Mia. I guess I hope that as the series goes on we will get glimpses of Kyrin and Mia. Because there are a lot of questions that need to be answered and the future is not certain.

If you love Gena Showalter I think that you will like this book. If you love to listen to Justine Eyre this is right up your alley. Over all I am happy with my purchase and read.

Kelly reviews Dark Heat by Donna Grant

Dark HeatTITLE: Dark Heat
SERIES #: The Dark Knight Stories (Dark Kings 0.1-0.3)
CHARACTERS: Many, please see each story blurb
AUTHOR: Donna Grant
PUBLICATION DATE: December 31, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The Dark Kings are sworn to defend an ancient legacy of dragon magic. But their fiercest challenge lies in the modern world, where a woman’s love conquers all. These are their stories.

This book contains the first 3 Dark Kings prequels + a bonus story, “Passion’s Claim”:

“Dark Craving”

Fueled by ancient magic—and enflamed by human desire—the Dragon King known as Hal can transform himself at will into one of the legendary winged creatures he is sworn to protect. But one thing he can never do is fall in love…with a mortal woman.

“Night’s Awakening”

The dark immortal warriors were never meant to experience human desire. But when Guy, a member of an ancient order of shape-shifting warriors, meets Elena—a mere mortal whose beauty and blind ambition shakes him to his core—all bets are off…

“Dawn’s Desire”

For centuries, the Dragon Kings have hidden their shapeshifting powers from the world. But when a mortal enemy threatens to expose them, the warrior Banan must leave his secret lair in the Highlands to risk his life for the dragons within—and resist the temptations of human love.

“Passion’s Claim”

Banan has been waiting for centuries for someone like Jane. Guy knew it was love at first sight with Elena. Can two Dragon Kings commit to two immortal women for eternity? Or does fate have something else in store?

REVIEW:
Dark Heat is a set of novella’s from Donna Grant’s new Dragon King series. Each story follows one of the Dragon Kings and how a simple twist of fate will change everything for these Kings that are older than time.

Dark Craving: Characters: Dragon King Haldor Wilson & Cassandra Hunter
This was a good story, short and sweet and to the point. Not a whole lot of drama per se. But a great beginning to Donna’s Dragon King series.

Night Awakening: Characters: Dragon King Guy & Elena Griffin
Another Dragon King falls. 🙂 But in a good way. Guy and Elena’s story is a bit of a whirlwind story starting with a death and end with one of them going under cover. Night Awakening sets up perfectly for the next novella Dawn’s Desire.

Dawn’s Desire: Dragon King Brana & Jane
Brana & Jane are just too sweet together. How can you not love a story where the Plain Jane girl is the ultimate prize for the very handsome, yet dangerous King of the blues? In Dawn’s Desire we finally get to meet up the the Dragon Kings enemy and get a little insight into the why.

Passion’s Claim:
This was a bonus story about two Dragon Kings who don’t have any clue on how to woo their women. These to very short stories made me laugh, cry and want to slap some Dragon Kings around.

I loved that Donna put all these stories together into one book so that there was no waiting to read the next story. I am very much looking forward to the first full length book in the Dragon King series. Darkest Flame will be out in April 2014.

REVIEW:
Ahhh just like any good novella Wild Fever was short and sweet and left me wanting more. This was a good start to Donna Grants’ new novella series. In Wild Fever we meet 4 brothers who are carrying on the family tradition of hunting the monsters that kill humans. Vincent is the oldest and has seen more of what these monsters can do than his brothers, which is part of the reason for sending his sister away. Vincent’s job is to keep everyone he loves safe.

But when the monsters they hunt start going after people the Chaisson’s care about Vincent is convinced that someone is out to get them. It is not until Olivia comes home that he truly understands the depth of the monsters that they hunt.

I really enjoyed this story, even if it left me wanting more. Donna did an excellent job of making this novella feel like a full length story. Nothing felt overly rushed and gave us a good idea of the history of the Chiasson family. I am very much looking forward to the next 4 books in this series.

His Untamed DesireTITLE: His Untamed Desire
SERIES #: Moon Shifter #3.5 (a novella)
CHARACTERS: Hector & Daphne
AUTHOR: Katie Reus
PUBLICATION DATE: January 7, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From the author of Mating Instinct comes a sexy and thrilling novella about primal desires.

Lupine shifter Daphne’s recent move back home gives her a chance at the fierce and sexy male she’s always wanted: jaguar shifter Hector. Daphne plans to show him she’s all grown up, and more than enough woman for him. Unfortunately, a certain vampire has been harassing her and won’t take no for an answer.

Hector knows Daphne can take care of herself, but he immediately steps in to protect her. He’s lusted after the sweet and sensual woman for years. With circumstances forcing them to share a roof, Hector’s not hiding his attraction toward her any longer.

But Daphne’s not the only shifter with vampire problems: tensions between the two groups are rising all over New Orleans. Pregnant shifters are being kidnapped and Hector’s sister could be the next victim. When Daphne underestimates her stalker’s persistence, it might be too late for Hector to keep both of the women he loves safe.

His Untamed Desire includes a preview from the next Moon Shifter novel, Avenger’s Heat.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Hot dog!!! So the hardest thing about reviewing a novella is to not give away what happens. So I will keep this short and sweet just like this book. Daphne and Hector are hawt together. I just love these two. I am so glad that Katie wrote their story. I would suggest reading His Untamed Desire before Avengers Heat only because it helps set up the book. But it is not a requirement.
So that is all you get. Moon Shifter fans will love this novella. Although I would like more of Hector & Daphne in the future.

Kelly reviews Rule Breaker by Lora Leigh

Rule BreakerTITLE: Rule Breaker
SERIES #: Breed #29
CHARACTERS: Rule Breaker &
AUTHOR: Lora Leigh
PUBLICATION DATE: February 4, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Lion Breed, Rule Breaker had just a few rules he didn’t break. Not for anything. Not for anyone.

#1. Never have sex with a woman outside his own subspecies, especially a human woman.

#2. Never, at any time, accept a mission concerning a female when Jonas Wyatt stinks of a lie.

#3. Run don’t walk, skip or stumble. Run, hell for leather away from any female, human or breed, when his desire for her appears, in any way, to have so much as a single sign of Mating Heat.

Now, the woman believes he’s mated, is too helpless, to fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone aide him in protecting her.

If the damned animal inside him insisted on a mate, then why pick the woman it did? One that could be struck out at, at any time?

But, what he suspected was a mating, may not be. No swollen glands? No heat? Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he’s away from her.

Okay, he could handle that.

What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the breeds when Jonas learns she’s possibly been working against them.

REVIEW:
2.5 Hearts WOW!!!!! 29 books in this series so far? And I think I read on Ms. Feehan that this series is going to be drawing to a close, but I would have to double check that. But I think that it might be time. While this was an okay book it really didn’t feel like the story went any where. And this was a long book around 450 pages. And it seems like a lot of those pages were just filled with random words. I honestly never felt a connection to Gypsy & Rule. I tried really hard to like them as a couple but it just didn’t work for me. I am not really sure of the why’s about this. Maybe it is just Gypsy’s personality. Maybe it is how Rule tries to denies what she means to him. Maybe it was a lot of things. Maybe it is because it has been so long since I read this series? And there is not enough time in the day to do a 28 book re-read.

Needless to say I am on the fence as to whether I will read the need book(s) in this series. I liked Gideon and would like to know more about him. But on the same hand I don’t want to be let down with a just okay story for him.

And as Erin delves further into the crimes, chilling information about her own past is revealed. The people who wanted her dead in the first place are trying to finish the job, and Noah wants nothing more than to shield her from harm. But can Erin truly trust Noah and let him see the wounded beast she’s hidden for so long?

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Erin is on her first solo mission, not completely solo Noah has been set with her, to find out why pregnant shifters are disappearing. Erin’s first step is to meet with the Alpha of the area, who just happens to be Noah’s father. This mission has lots of twists and turns and will become very difficult for Erin. Having Noah by her side will both help and hinder her at the same time.

Another great story in the Moon Shifter series. Loved reading about Noah & Erin. I loved how patient Noah is with Erin. It was heart breaking to learn more about Erin’s past. But these two make an awesome team and I can’t wait to see glimpse of them in future books.
I would have like to jump into parts of Noah’s past a little more. But maybe this will come out in a future book. I am sure that Noah & Erin’s story is far from over. I did enjoy reading about Brianna and Angelo and hope that we get to see more of them in the future too.

AUTHOR: Kele Moon
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/22/13

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Sometimes it’s good to be king. . .

Long ago four alpha pairs held dominance over the seasons. They led an ancient people only heard of in legend who were both wolves and humans. The alphas were chosen by the gods to wield great powers and bring peace and balance to their people.

Everything changed when members of their race later known as the rogues were driven mad by the taste of human flesh. They sought to kill the great alphas.

They succeeded.

Without them, the remaining wolves became weak and could no longer reproduce. Their race was slowly threatening to descend into nothing but a distant memory.

Over a century has passed before hope shines on the horizon for this ancient people. A new winter alpha pair is born and with them the promise of rebirth for the monarchy. Maxwell Wellington was crowned Head King on the Winter Solstice when he watched his aunt die giving birth to his mate, Queen Susan.

He was just three years old.

Max and Susie are born into a world where they are the youngest, but already the most powerful, yet they long for normalcy. With no other young werewolves around, they turn to human schooling hoping for playmates.

But the human culture forces them to question everything their people have raised them to believe. Cousins as well as mates, Max starts resisting his connection to Susie despite knowing they share a soul and were born to rule together. When the call to roam overtakes him at eighteen, Max finds himself fighting his nature as a deadly and powerful alpha wolf who will stop at nothing to claim Susie. Now he has just three years to build up a defense against her before time runs out and she goes into heat.

As winter dawns, Max and Susie come of age in a new era for werewolves. Their story is the first step in a long journey that explores the triumphs and tragedies of one powerful, royal family and those who serve them. The battles they wage against nature, each other and the forces that rise against them will change the dynamic of not just their world…but ours as well

REVIEW:
1.5 Hearts I have to say I was very disappointed with this book. I enjoyed the erotica from Kele Moon but this is a bit different. Set in a different world but it is a world that is hard to get involved in. I didn’t enjoy Max. He is a cheater and Susan is an enabler. I do not enjoy books where the romance has a cheater. And I really do not enjoy the woman bringing her man other woman. Something is just wrong with that.

I won’t say much because honestly there was not enough of the book that I enjoyed enough to talk about.

Kelly reviews Mark Of The Demon by Diana Rowland

Mark Of DemonTITLE: Mark of the Demon
SERIES #: Kara Gillian #1
CHARACTERS: Kara Gillian, Ryan Kristoff & Rhyzkahl
AUTHOR: Diana Rowland
NARRATOR: Liv Anderson
PUBLICATION DATE: June 23, 2009
AUDIBLE PUB DATE: June 7, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Cop and conjurer of demons, she’s a woman in danger of losing control – to a power that could kill….

“Why me? Why now?” That’s what Beaulac, Louisiana, detective Kara Gillian was asking herself when an angelic creature named Rhyzkahl unexpectedly appeared during a routine summoning. Kara was hoping to use her occult skills to catch a serial killer, but never had she conjured anything like this unearthly beautiful and unspeakably powerful being whose very touch set off exquisite new dimensions of pleasure. But can she enlist his aid in helping her stop a killer who’s already claimed the lives – and souls – of 13 people? And should she?

The Symbol Man is a nightmare that the city thought had ended three years ago. Now he’s back for an encore and leaving every indication on the flesh of his victims that he, too, is well versed in demonic lore. Kara may be the only cop on Beaulac’s small force able to stop the killer, but it is her first homicide case. Yet with Rhyzkahl haunting her dreams, and a handsome yet disapproving FBI agent dogging her waking footsteps, she may be in way over her head.

REVIEW:
This book took me a little bit to get into. I am not sure what I was expecting but after listening to Diana’s White Trash Zombie I guess I expected a little more snark and humor. But Kara is very different then Angel. As the story when on I started to like Kara. I started enjoying her view on the world and how a summoner sees things. I honestly took me until the end of the book to decided if I like the Demon Lord and the FBI agent in Kara’s life. Let’s say that I really like one when we first met him, then I hated him, then I kinda liked him. The other I didn’t like at all until the end of the book. You will have to read/listen to and see if you can figure out which is which.

The narrator was not my most favorite but she did a pretty good job. I will say that Rhyzkahl’s voice was a little creepy, but he is a Demon Lord. So I guess that is okay.

Even though this was a slow start for me I am very much looking forward to Kara, Ryan & Rhyzkahl’s next adventure.

When Igmutaka tells Sunny her man is “out there, and coming closer,” she can barely contain her excitement. But Fen Ahlberg is not at all what Sunny expected—in fact, he is so much more that his mere existence may change the Chanku forever.

REVIEW:
2.5 Hearts To say that this book was a bit naughty would be a totally understatement. While I don’t mind a little sex with my story I felt like this was sex with a little story. There was so much bed hoping that I couldn’t handle it. I just didn’t get how Ig could continue to bed Sunny even though he was in love with Star. It just drove me nuts. I didn’t expect the m/m relationship either.
I am still recovering from reading this book. If you like your books naughty then pick up a copy of Dark Moon. If you don’t like any kind of naughty this is not the book for you.

Kelly reviews Wulfe Untamed by Pamela Palmer

Wulfe UntamedTITLE: Wulfe Untamed
SERIES #: Feral Warrior #8
CHARACTERS: Wulfe & Natalie Cash
AUTHOR: Pamela Palmer
PUBLICATION DATE: January 28, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release…

The most enigmatic and tortured of the Feral Warriors, Wulfe is haunted by the quiet beauty of a human woman who no longer remembers him. Once a captive of both the Mage and the Ferals, Natalie stole a piece of his heart before he took her memories and sent her safely back to her fiancé. But now the Mage are threatening her again, and Wulfe will risk anything to protect her.

Natalie Cash is stunned when she’s saved by a wolf who shifts suddenly into a splendidly built, if badly scarred, man, a man with the kindest eyes. Swept into a world of intrigue and danger beyond her comprehension, she turns to the powerful Wulfe, finding a passion she’d only dreamed of. But when time runs out, they must trust one another and surrender to a wild, untamed love

REVIEW:
Wulfe & Natalie have a very sweet love story, even if it is filled with evil at every turn. Wulfe has been hurting since the death of his mate, but not in the way that most would think. But Natalie stirs something that he can’t quite figure out. When he finally realizes what he is feeling he tries to push her away, but Natalie is not having any of that. These two have to face a lot of issues between them and learn to lean on each other in the face of evil.

As I started to read Wulfe Untamed I realized that I have missed a few books in Pamela Palmers Feral Warrior’s series. While this didn’t take away from the story it just makes me want to go back and read the whole series again from book 1. Pamela has announced that his is the final book in the Feral Warriors series but I will say that I am holding out hope that she will write Grizz & Vhypers story. Maybe a spin off? Because both Grizz & Vhyper need to find their HEA

REVIEW:
I am really sad this series is coming to an end. But like all good things it can’t go on forever. Cat & Bones have been a huge part of my love for all things paranormal. These two have had a rollercoaster ride of the years and I am grateful that I grab the very first book in this series. There will be no spoilers at all in this review. No summary of this book in this review. This is just my love of this series and for Ms. Frost. While I was surprised by a few things in this book I am so happy that Cat & Bones finally might have some down time and a chance to enjoy their life together.

I really hope that Ms. Frost will revisit these two in the future. I really can’t wait to see what the future holds. Fans of Cat & Bones will really enjoy this story.
