BOOK SYNOPSIS:
After tragedy strikes, Callie Sinclair is left with a gift she never wanted—the ability to communicate with ghosts. But when a desperate widow begs for her help, she reluctantly agrees to investigate the strange occurrences at Hillwood Farm. She quickly realizes she’s dealing with a dangerous presence beyond anything she’s ever experienced, and something else becomes equally clear—the only other living person in the house, Mrs. Turner’s handsome grandson, thinks she’s a scam artist. While she’d prefer to just ignore him, her heart beats a little faster every time he’s nearby.

Luke Turner doesn’t believe in spirits. He’s moved back to restore the family farm, but living on the property serves a dual purpose—he can watch out for his grandmother. He’s not happy about the sudden appearance of a self-described psychic, or his inexplicable attraction to her. His initial suspicions crumble as evidence points to an actual haunting, but he’s still determined not to fall for Callie—the past has taught him it’s best to avoid relationships.

As Callie is drawn deeper into the mystery, she becomes the target of a vengeful spirit, and Luke can no longer fight his feelings for her. Unable to resist their desire, passion ignites…even as the paranormal activity escalates to a final deadly confrontation.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts I was in the mood for a good old-fashioned ghost story. Well I sorta got it.

The ghost part was pretty obvious but kept me interesting. The romance was good and the suspense was fine too.

Problem was no part of it was great in my opinion. The writing was fine and it was a short read. A good read between more intense stories.

But first he has to deal with a blackmailing Fey, a ransom demand and his own pounding need for the last female he ever should have fallen for . . .

REVIEW:
Zanetti! Whoo Hoo! Zanetti is back! (I do this every time)

Zanetti is the queen of paranormal in my book. I always look forward to grabbing up her books and this did not disappoint.

What I love best about Zanetti’s men is they are true alpha. They do not take anything from anyone… well, accept their women. Her alpha men can turn a man into a mouse with just a look. Imagine when they use their hands… or more so their power… but then the women come into the story and BAM these men think they have control but they lose it with a single kiss.

This story is the 9th in the series and yeah we can say you can read it out of order but NO… I suggest you read the series. Catch up on it. You will not be disappointed. Heck you may even come back and thank me.

REVIEW:
Oh my poor heart!! So many emotions in this book. So many questions!! I was honestly afraid to read (listen to) this story because I had seen that it was a cliffhanger ending. But my need to be back in the Guild Hunter world was to much. I will tell you that if you don’t like cliffhangers at all wait until the next book comes out before you jump into Archangel’s Prophecy.

Archangel’s Prophecy is a wild emotional ride that will leave you wanting more. Ms. Singh is such an amazing writer. She knows all the right heart strings to pull to get you emotionally invested then she pulls the rug out from under your feet leaving you wondering what the heck just happened. Add in the extremely talented Justin Eyre and you have the perfect world! I love to have Ms. Eyre narrator this world for me.

Man alive I am not sure I can’t wait for the next installment (I mean I don’t have a choice) but it will be a rough year waiting to find out what happens next

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Ok So here I go again… I picked up a book based on the name that I have heard from friends and family and wanted to give a try… However, this is part of a series…. And long series. This is in fact #23 in the series.

The writing is good and honestly it can be a stand alone, for the most part. There are some background characters that I can tell were from earlier books but it wasn’t distracting.

I can tell from other reviews that “Cassie’s story” was awaited with baited breath but I can’t say that. But I can say that the story was interesting and kept me captivated. I loved the romance of it and the suspense of it.

I don’t know if I will go back 22 books to catch up but I imagine I will continue the series from here.

Kimberly reviews The House By The Cemetery by John Everson

house by the cemeteryTITLE: The House By The Cemetery
CHARACTERS: Mike Kostner
AUTHOR: John Everson
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/06/18
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Rumor has it that the abandoned house by the cemetery is haunted by the ghost of a witch. But rumors won’t stop carpenter Mike Kostner from rehabbing the place as a haunted house attraction. Soon he’ll learn that fresh wood and nails can’t keep decades of rumors down. There are noises in the walls, and fresh blood on the floor: secrets that would be better not to discover. And behind the rumors is a real ghost who will do whatever it takes to ensure the house reopens. She needs people to fill her house on Halloween. There’s a dark, horrible ritual to fulfill. Because while the witch may have been dead… she doesn’t intend to stay that way.

REVIEW:
It is hard to find a good old fashioned ghost/haunted house story. That being said this one isn’t too bad. But it isn’t all that I had hoped.

The main character is hired to fix up a “haunted” house and yet when weird things start happening he doesn’t seem the least bit ill at ease. I mean I realize that the main character can’t exactly run out screaming at the first sight and never go back since the book would be done then but still he should at least a bit startled.

The end has a bit more gore than I wanted as well. But then that is just my like/dislike.

Excerpt

“Have we determined that the black cat that was following you around last month is a potential… What did you call it? An animal companion?”

“That’s the consensus. Flint thinks I might have caught its attention the same way I caught—”

I stopped.

As if our conversation had summoned it, the hulking black cat in question sat on the other side of the room. The beast was bigger than any mundane cat, even the great cats. On all fours, its head came to my shoulder, and it easily weighed over seven hundred pounds. Though it resembled an enormous panther, the ears were wrong for the breed, too pointed. And there was a shadowy quality to its form, as if it weren’t really there. As though it were a lingering nightmare come to life.

“Maybe I should install a cat door,” Andy murmured. His hand lingered near his gun.

“Don’t shoot it,” I warned.

“I’m not going to shoot it.” He paused, considered that. “Would it do me any good to shoot it?”

“Bullets have iron, and I’m pretty sure it’s fey. If you could hit it, you could hurt it.” A shiver ran down my spine. “But somehow…I don’t think you would.”

Instinct told me the beast would be fast, impossibly fast. Andy was an incredible shot, but he was human, with human limitations. The black cat crept forward, silent as a dark fog. My heart skipped a beat as it approached the sleeping kitten, sniffing the air above Majesty. The kitten cracked open one eye.

“Oh please, don’t scare him,” I begged, trying not to sound as panicked as I felt. “Please, I can’t face another rhinoceros.”

The cat blinked as if it had understood me, then studied the kitten with renewed interest, tilting its massive head to one side.

“Yes,” I said. “Yes, a rhinoceros. It’s one of the fun, terrifying things that can happen if you startle that…kitten.”

“You weren’t going to say kitten,” Peasblossom accused. “You were going to say a bad word, weren’t you? Which one?”

My phone rang, and I jumped a foot in the air. Majesty shot to his feet, claws piercing the couch. The black cat’s ears rose.

“Please don’t summon another rhinoceros.” I fumbled for my phone. “Hello?”

“Shade! Shade Renard?”

It was a woman’s voice, thick with an Italian accent. She sounded hoarse, and her last word ended in a way that suggested she was clenching her teeth. Nearby her a door opened, then slammed shut.

I straightened my spine, magic kitten forgotten. “Yes, this is Shade. Who is this? Are you all right?”

“They’re dead, both dead. Murdered. You have to help…” She groaned.

I gripped the phone tighter, staring at Andy. He didn’t take his attention off the cats, or his hand from his gun.

“Who was murdered? What happened? Where are you?”

Andy met my gaze. Tension seized his shoulders, and he put the gun away.

“I’m at St. Michael’s on Lexington Avenue. I need your help, you must come now. Please hurry, I don’t know how much longer I can hold it.”

“Hold what?”

“The demon.”

The line went dead.

About The Author
USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Blackstream is…odd. Putting aside the fact that she writes her own author bio in third person, she also sleeps with a stuffed My Little Pony that her grandmother bought her as a joke for her 23rd birthday, and she enjoys listening to Fraggle Rock soundtracks whether or not her children are in the car.Jennifer doesn’t have spare time, but she makes it a point to spend at least one night a week with her sibling binge-watching whatever show they’re currently plowing through (currently Numbers on Netflix), and she ferociously guards quality time with her son and daughter. She cooks when she has the sanity for it–adding garlic to the recipe whether it calls for it or not–and tries very hard not to let her arachnophobia keep her out of her basement on laundry day.

Jennifer’s influences include Terry Pratchett (for wit), Laurell K. Hamilton (for sexual tension), Jim Butcher (for roguish flair), and Kim Harrison (for mythos). She is currently writing the series of her heart and her dreams, the series that has been percolating in her brain for the last decade…Blood Trails. An Urban Fantasy Mystery series that will combine the classic whodunit spirit with a contemporary fantasy setting. Expect mystery, magic, and mayhem, with characters that will make you laugh, cry, and probably stare at the screen with your jaw hanging down to the floor. Well, that’s how they affect Jennifer anyway…

CHARACTERS: Xanthe & Samuel
AUTHOR: Paula Brackston
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/16/18
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A new series about a young woman whose connection to antiques takes her on a magical adventure, reminiscent of Outlander

New York Times bestselling author of The Witch’s Daughter Paula Brackston returns to her trademark blend of magic and romance to launch a new series guaranteed to enchant her audience even more.

Xanthe and her mother Flora leave London behind for a fresh start, taking over an antique shop in the historic town of Marlborough. Xanthe has always had an affinity with some of the antiques she finds. When she touches them, she can sense something of the past they come from and the stories they hold. So when she has an intense connection to a beautiful silver chatelaine she has to know more.

It’s while she’s examining the chatelaine that she’s transported back to the seventeenth century. And shortly after, she’s confronted by a ghost who reveals that this is where the antique has its origins. The ghost tasks Xanthe with putting right the injustice in its story to save an innocent girl’s life, or else it’ll cost her Flora’s.

While Xanthe fights to save her amid the turbulent days of 1605, she meets architect Samuel Appleby. He may be the person who can help her succeed. He may also be the reason she can’t bring herself to leave.

With its rich historical detail, strong mother-daughter relationship, and picturesque English village, The Little Shop of Found Things is poised to be a strong start to this new series.

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts This cover is breathtaking isn’t it? I just love it. So how could I not request this book and I am glad I did. I love magic and wish so much that I could have some but when asked that question “if you had a super power what would it be?” I always say I do not know. But after reading this I wonder if I wouldn’t want the ability to know the history of anything I touched. This may be my answer from now on.

Back to the book…. I found the story as mesmerizing as the cover. This story has a bit of history thrown into the magical world. I loved the relationship between mother and daughter.

I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Billionaire Wolf series:
Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing (Book 1)
A Billionaire Wolf for Christmas (Book 2)

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Depends on how you look at this. It is either #2 in the series or #26… Mainly I look at it as #26 and to be honest I have enjoyed most of the series but it is getting a bit old for me. Spear has found her niche’ which I get and she has stuck with it a long time but I wonder what else she can write. There is only so much you can do with wolf shifters.

That being said the story is good. It has a bit of Christmas feel to it but after having read so many of her books I want for something different.

The romance is good and if you are a fan of the genre with a Christmas flair pick it up.

witch of the hillsTITLE: The Witch Of The Hills
CHARACTERS: Rebecca & Brian
AUTHOR: JM Fraser
PUBLICATION DATE: 03/18/18
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Ancient prophecy compels a young Salem witch to travel through the time-bending dimension we all visit when we sleep. Rebecca Church must recruit a modern-day boy to save this interactive fantasy world from imminent disaster, but her task won’t be easy. She may use no more than poetry, illusions, and dreams to convince the chosen one of his destiny, and she can visit him only nine brief times.

When Brian Danahey meets Rebecca at the side of a desolate road, he recognizes her from a recurring nightmare about a girl in great danger. Brian falls in love with her, she disappears, and he comes to believe she’s the legendary Witch of the Hills, a colonial maiden exiled to haunt the western prairies for centuries. The quest to free Rebecca takes him through mirrors and time from the sand hills of contemporary Nebraska to the seventeenth-century witch haven she once called home.

But Rebecca doesn’t need saving and certainly not three-hundred-plus years ago. The magical dimension that nourishes our souls is on the brink of apocalypse. Today.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts I had to request this book when I read the synopsis and saw the cover. It really called to me and i have always thought the Salem Witch era was so interesting. But this is a bit different. Rebecca travels through time and so much more. There is a catch to how she can communicate to the modern day.

This story is different than any others I have read in this genre but it seemed like there was a lot thrown into it. It was a witches brew of ideas. Let’s add a bit of time travel, plus a dash of dreamscape, a handful of magic and pinches of other stuff and brew up a story.

It was really interesting but nothing like what I expected.

But Timur has ignited something deep within her, and even though she knows she should keep her distance, every move he makes has her craving a taste…

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Feehan has written 10 stories now in the Leopard series. A shape shifter animal you do not hear much about. Feehan can come up with some interesting storylines and characters and again in this series and this story she does it again!

Feehan is one of the queens of paranormal in my opinion. She easily draws you into each character and their story.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good shapeshifter story? Well if it is not your genre of choice turn away now but if it is then pick up this series. I want to say these stories are not a stand alone. They really need to be read in order to understand exactly who and what is going on.

This is just another great story in this great series.
