REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Wow! I was not expecting this book! You know how sometimes you’re just chugging along like any other day and then BAM! you get smacked in the face by the unexpected and you just can’t look away? Yep, that was this book! The very first page has you scratching your head and wondering what on earth is going on… You get the answers…oh do you get the answers – but the way it plays out is amazing! This book is about Zach finding out that he isn’t exactly human and that his existence threatens the entire planet and everyone on it. Zach meets Sam and Grigory who begin to unravel the crazy history leading up to Zach’s existence and all the while Zach’s best friend Kim is undergoing an extreme transformation and no one knows what’s going on or what’s going to happen! Whew, it was so intense! I’ll admit, I cried more than once. I really felt connected to these characters, I was learning right along with Zach. This book is not for the light of heart, it’s a dark story that definitely can highlight the very bad things in our universe; but its still a very good read and I’m very happy I had to the opportunity to find this author.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
WOW…
I was not expecting that. What you ask? Right like I am going to tell you. Why on earth would I give away anything? I want you to read this book. But if you have not started this series you have to start with book one!! I loved seeing Seth and Carly work together.

Oh I am so happy and sad all at the same time. I am happy that the small Oregon town of Solitude (and I) finally gets some answers about the events that have been surrounding them. But I am so sad that this series is over. I really hope that this is not the only series that Melinda & Kendra will team up on.

If you enjoy romance suspense you really should check out this series and the Ladies. Both are amazing story tellers and will keep you guessing until the end.

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
This was the final book in the quartet novella series Rogue River. This book takes us back to Seth and Carly’s story while continuing with the overarching plot for the whole series. I really love Seth! Carly and Seth had so many problems, hurt feelings and egos to overcome. They are both extremely head strong and stubborn; so naturally they butt heads. I’m very pleased with how this series was closed out and I’m so happy that we finally got answers to the big mysteries happening around Solitude! We also got to see our favorite characters Zane and Stevie. This whole series has been a pleasant read and opened me up to a new author with Melinda Leigh! I’m very happy I read it, it’s definitely worth the time.

Until he finds himself strapped in Noah Martin’s passenger seat, being driven—against his better judgment—back to the scene of his crime. It’s time for Declan to confront his past so he can embrace his future—with Noah, as it was meant to be. And if that future should include a beguiling woman with honey-gold hair, all the better. Under the guise of a working weekend, Noah has invited Violet Harper to join them at the luxury vineyard hotel. Perhaps now the unspoken connection between Violet, Declan and himself can finally develop into something tangible. Almost immediately, sparks flare out of control, and clothes come flying off in a hot whirlwind of desire. But convincing Declan and Violet that the three of them belong together may prove to be the hardest task Noah has ever undertaken. Warning: A bottle of white? A bottle of red? Perhaps a bottle of bubbly instead? Ah, hell, just bring’em all. We all know good things come in threes.

REVIEW:
This is a great story that involves a three person committed relationship. I really loved Declan and Noah. Their friendship is strong, even though Declan can be extremely hard headed. However, you understand why Declan is the way he is. He feels deeply and really takes into account his impact on others. Noah is waaaay too patient for Declan, but the perfect partner for him. Then comes Violet – the perfect third party to this relationship. They all mesh extremely well from the get go and completely allow you to believe that their love for one another is all encompassing and necessary. I loved this story and the intimate interactions between the characters. The story was believable and heartfelt. Though this book is a part of a series it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. Jess Dee found a new fan in me.

Natasha & Kimberly review Rocky Mountain Miracle by Christine Feehan

Rocky Mtn MiracleTITLE: Rocky Mountain Miracle
CHARACTERS: Cole & Maia
AUTHOR: Christine Feehan
PUBLICATION DATE: 11/17/14
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
No Christmas will ever be the same after Cole and Maia meet on a snowy western ranch… Find out why in #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan’s romantic holiday e-novella!

When Cole Steele, a womanizer rumored to have killed his father, meets Maia Armstrong, a veterinarian rumored to practice magic, the sizzling romance could melt all the snow on his Wyoming ranch. And when an injured horse brings them together, Cole can’t help but believe that Maia casts spells on animals—and men. What else could explain the burning passion he feels for her and the thawing of his heart just in time for Christmas?

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts Christine Feehan never disappoints. This Christmas novel is no different in terms of intense storylines and having you fall in love with the characters. Cole is a super intense dominant male personality. He has been through sheer hell, which is weird to see in a Christmas novel. Luckily he meets Maia and his whole world turns upside down. Maia however is very independent and I really have no idea where her mind is at until the end. I was actually stressed during this book because I didn’t know how things would work out. That’s a good problem to have with a book. Also, I just loved Cole’s brother Jase. He was a breath of fresh air in this book and I adored him. All of these three characters together made for an extremely romantic and heart warming Christmas story.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts What an interesting story. The characters are so complex and have so much history that they feel real. Cole and Jase are half brothers who didn’t even know the other existed until recently and yet they share the history of their cruel father. Maia comes into their lives and something about her changes everything the men have ever known about life. And somehow they connect in a way the guys never thought they would be able to with another person.

It seems like this book may have been in Feehan’s mind for a long time just waiting to be written. THe characters are so intense and real that you feel like you know them. You hurt for them and you cheer their simple moments that are so hard for them. Christmas feels lost on them and the reader feels it too. The sadness of never having the holiday is intense. And then there are the times when they love. The brothers love for each other is growing and yet they are unsure how to trust. And then there is Maia who has a secret all her own that she can talk to animals. Well not talk exactly… well the book will explain… and yet she is so down to earth.

I really enjoyed this story. Was it a holiday feel good love story? No way! There is a lot that is dark in this book but it is worth the read and not something you want to miss.

the silent wifeTITLE: The Silent Wife
CHARACTERS: Jodi and Todd
AUTHOR: A.S.A. Harrison
PUBLICATION DATE: 6/25/13
ORDER LINKS:Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A chilling psychological thriller about a marriage, a way of life, and how far one woman will go to keep what is rightfully hersJodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Well, I don’t even know where to start with this story. Jodi and Todd have a very complicated relationship. Though not married, they’ve been together for 20 years. When Todd makes a life altering decision it throws Jodi’s world into chaos. I found that both of these characters were extremely difficult to like. I didn’t particularly care about either of them, because they both bred such negativity and deception. They were actually perfect for each other – which I guess is the point. Though not likable characters I found myself very curious how the story would unfold and if it would follow the expected path the author had set up. Some parts of the story were dull, but overall I was pleased with how the whole story unfolded, though much of the time I was just shaking my head in disbelief. I really love that we actually do not have a concrete conclusion in the end; readers are left to their own opinions on some of the events in the story which creates a fun twist on a dark tale. It was an interesting read and I’m happy I gave it a go.

Warning: There’s not enough moonshine on the Mississippi to keep this fortune teller from saving The Devil’s Henchman, a high-stakes gambler—and her childhood friend—from his boss’s cruel attentions. Touches upon issues of child abuse, revenge, and redemption.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This was a good first book in this new series. I really liked Dell and Rory. They were great together and gave each other just enough crap for me to love them. I really enjoyed how Dell wasn’t a character that just cowed to a man and was timid. She was strong willed and did what she needed to do. Rory was a sweetie and he just fumbled all over himself sometimes which was super charming. I also enjoyed many of the supporting characters and hope we get to see more of them. My only critique of this book was that sometimes the scene would change but it wasn’t immediately evident. That slowed down my reading a little so I could make sure I was in the correct moment, but other than that it was a great read and I really like this author.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.75 Hearts Don’t you hate it when you are reading a book and you get to the end of a chapter and turn the page only to find you are at the end of the book? I kept hitting the turn page on my kindle and nothing. Nothing. There was just no more for me to read.

UGGGG why do authors leave me like that? Well if you have started this series then you know that this is not the end of the story. But that Ms. Elliot & Ms. Leigh love to leave you with more questions then answers. As the body’s start piling up, the list of suspects grows longer. I am so confused as to who did it. I have a guess but I am afraid I am wrong. Can’t wait to see if I am write.

Please make sure that you start this novella series from the beginning. It is an on going story. Loved seeing Zane & Stevie again. Love seeing their relationship grow. Can’t wait for the next & last installment in this series.

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
5 Hearts Another great installment in this fabulous novella series. I love the people of Solitude, and Stevie & Zane are my favorite! I feel like I’m trudging right along with them in finding out what’s happening in Solitude and cannot wait for the conclusion to this series! The great interaction between Stevie and Zane is strong and I have no complaints. I love them together! Great story.

immortalTITLE: Immortal
SERIES #: Fallen Angels #6
CHARACTERS: Jim, Sissy, Eddie, Adrian & Devina
AUTHOR: J.R. Ward
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/7/14
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From J.R. Ward, the #1 New York Times bestselling author who has kept readers on the edge of their seats with her phenomenal Fallen Angels novels, comes one of the most heart-stirring and eagerly anticipated events in that acclaimed series.

This is a world where sin and salvation collide. This is a world where a cynical fallen angel struggles with the seven deadly sins and seven chosen souls. With the spellbinding Immortal, the riveting series that “changed the face of paranormal romance” comes to an epic close as mankind’s reluctant savior struggles with his greatest challenge yet…

REVIEW:
This is the final installment in the J.R. Ward Fallen Angel series. We’ve followed Jim for six books now in his fight against the evil Devina for the souls of all of humanity. This has been an intense series. Jim is extremely frustrating throughout this series and there are times when you want to strangle him. However, in this book he’s finally made some progress. He’s still a super volatile macho man that has to overcome his evil side, but he’s much more clear-headed and sane. Sissy was a big reason for this. I had my doubts about Sissy’s importance throughout this series, but I know understand why she was introduced as such a monumental character. There were times I literally cried during this book (Adrian & Eddie, Nigel & Colin). It was super emotional on many levels. The connections made through these characters were deep. I was very invested in all of their futures. There are many time when a series closes out and many followers are left disappointed. Though this series started off slow and rough for me, it definitely ended on a high note. I’m very pleased with the series closure and am very happy I stuck through the entire series.

penumbraTITLE: Penumbra
SERIES #: The Spook Squad #3
CHARACTERS: Sam & Gabriel
AUTHOR: Keri Arthur
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/28/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Agent Sam Ryan has had enough. She wants out, and she wants out now. She’s sick of putting up with Gabriel’s crappy attitude, sick of seeing nothing but paperwork and the inside off her small office. But most of all, she is sick of feeling lonely. It’s time to take control and get a life outside of work. But Stephan, the man in charge of the SIU, isn’t about to let her go easily. Offered the choice between guarding a clone and probable enemy of the country, or remaining stuck in her shoe box, Sam reluctantly accepts the former, even though she suspects Stephan is using her as bait to draw out the elusive and dangerous Sethanon. Gabriel is relieved to discover he’s finally shaken Sam as a partner, until he learns her new assignment is guarding Wetherton, the clone replacement of a government minister. Both he and Stephan know Wetherton could only have come from one place-Hopeworth. The military base has been involved in DNA experiments for decades and was more than likely the place where Sam was created. But there is a growing likelihood that the military base is also the home of Sethanon himself. Determined to protect her, Gabriel is quickly drawn into the mission. All too soon he discovers the connection between he and Sam is far deeper than anyone could ever have imagined. As the assignment begins to unravel around Sam and her past begins to reveal itself in her dreams, she fights to stay alive because the military wants their creation back. And the only person standing between her and them might well be the enemy of all mankind.

REVIEW: This was the book I’d been waiting for. Finally some answers for Sam about her past! I was very pleased that this book has finally given insight to some of the most burning questions we’ve had regarding Sam’s history and who she really is. This series has a ton of twists and turns as well is interlocking storylines with other events so the characters/bad guys are all really hard to keep straight from book to book. I am happy to report though, that we do get some fairly easy to understand explanations about Sam that will make many things make sense. Who is Joe Black? Will Gabriel ever quit being such a jerk and come to his senses? These are questions we finally get answers to! I know this series was originally set as a trilogy but Arthur could really turn this into a longer series, and I kinda hope she does. There’s a ton of action, deception and intrigue in these books – even though they can sometimes be hard to follow. I highly recommend this series.

Natasha reviews That Night by Chevy Stevens

that nightTITLE: That Night
CHARACTERS: Toni & Ryan
AUTHOR: Chevy Stevens
PUBLICATION DATE: 6/17/14
ORDER LINKS:Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
As a teenager, Toni Murphy had a life full of typical adolescent
complications: a boyfriend she adored, a younger sister she couldn’t relate to, a strained relationship with her parents, and classmates who seemed hell-bent on making her life miserable. Things weren’t easy, but Toni could never have predicted how horrific they would become until her younger sister was brutally murdered one summer night.
Toni and her boyfriend, Ryan, were convicted of the murder and sent to prison.
Now thirty-four, Toni is out on parole and back in her hometown, struggling to adjust to a new life on the outside. Prison changed her, hardened her, and she’s doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back. This means having absolutely no contact with Ryan, avoiding fellow parolees looking to pick fights, and steering clear of trouble in all its forms. But nothing is making that easy—not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who doubts Toni’s innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni’s life hell in high school and may have darker secrets than anyone realizes. No matter how hard she tries, ignoring her old life to start a new one is impossible. Before Toni can truly move on, she must risk everything to find out what really happened that night.
But the truth might be the most terrifying thing of all.

REVIEW:
I’ve never read anything by Chevy Stevens before, but I am such a fan now! I couldn’t put this book down. Toni and Ryan are a teenage couple in love. High school drama, bullies, demanding parents and typical teenage angst fill this story with so much tension. Toni’s life is turned upside down when one fateful night her younger sister is murdered. The police, her parents and the whole town place the blame on Toni and Ryan, and they end up spending 14 years in prison for her murder. The story is told from Toni’s point of view in alternating timelines – both the events of the past and the events of the present. Telling a story with different time streams can be confusing to readers, but this was written so well I found that the story flowed beautifully. Each chapter gave just enough information to keep you hanging at the edge of your seat for more.

When Toni and Ryan are released they begin to investigate the murder on their own and against their parole conditions. The ensuing plot gains momentum and is full of drama, action and intensity. I wanted to whoop my fist in the air in triumph and at the same time cry for all of the things these characters go through – especially Toni. I just can’t say enough about this story. It was a fabulous read and I could’ve kept reading for hundreds of pages more. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read that highlights the injustices, prejudices and assumptions that are so prevalent in our society; as well as their sometimes devastating outcomes.

Natasha reviews Son Of No One by Sherrilyn Kenyon

son of no oneTITLE: Son of No One
SERIES #: Darkhunter #23, Hellchaser #6
CHARACTERS: Cadegan & Jo
AUTHOR: Sherrilyn Kenyon
PUBLICATION DATE: 9/2/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
It’s not easy being life’s own personal joke, but Josette Landry has made an unstable peace with the beast. Life will continue to throw every bad thing it has at her, and she will continue to not put her head in an oven. But that’s okay. That which doesn’t kill her will just require a few hours of mental insanity. Completely down on her luck, Josette takes a job with a local paranormal group trying to get their own cable show as a photographer and camerawoman. Yeah, they’re even crazier than she is. The only paranormal thing she believes in is the miracle that keeps her rusted out hoopty running. But when her group accidentally releases something truly evil into the world, they are forced to call in reinforcement.

From the moment Josette meets Cadegan, she knows something about him isn’t quite right. And it’s not just because she can’t even begin to pronounce his last name: Maboddimun. Mysterious and armed with lethal sarcasm, he seems a lot older than his apparent age…

Centuries ago, Cadegan sold his soul for vengeance against the betrayer who cursed him. Forced against his will to do good, he hates everything in life. All he wants is a way out. But for the damned there is only eternal suffering. And yet there is something about Josette that intrigues him as much as it irritates and frustrates him. Something he can’t seem to fight, and the last time he felt this way about a woman, it cost him his soul.

He knows he has to stay away from her, but the evil her friends unleashed is hellbent on consuming her soul. Something he cannot allow. If one more innocent is taken, he will be sent back to an unimaginable prison that makes his current hell look like paradise. But how can he keep her safe when his being with her is the greatest threat of all?

REVIEW: This is another installment in the Darkhunter series, but also connects to many other series that Sherrilyn has introduced over the years. The story itself is okay to read. Cadegan is a loveable character with the same tortured past we see in many of Sherrilyn’s books. Jo is a strong female lead – another staple in Kenyon’s writings. Jo has a strong personality and is a smart ass. Though that’s funny I found it to be too much at times when situations didn’t particularly warrant it. It cheapened some of the moments and made her come off as a little bit of a dolt. We see many familiar characters in this book and are also introduced to many many more. I’ve honestly given up trying to keep track of all of the Kenyon characters, their powers and their connections to one another. She’s expanded this series so far and added SO MANY THINGS it’s nearly impossible to keep track of it all. I like that because she’s moving the series forward, but at the same time I find it daunting as a reader and it takes away from the series. Because of this I just take each book as it stands and don’t try to connect them all back anymore. I’ll keep reading this series for now and see what else is in store in this universe.

mr miracleTITLE: Mr. Miracle
CHARACTERS: Addie Folsom & Erich Simmons
AUTHOR: Debbie Macomber
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/7/14
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber celebrates the most wonderful time of the year in this heartwarming Christmas novel of romance, hope, and the comforts of home—coming soon as a Hallmark Channel original movie!
Harry Mills is a guardian angel on a mission: help twenty-four-year-old Addie Folsom get her life back on track—and, if the right moment strikes, help her find love. Posing as a teacher at a local college in Tacoma, Washington, Harry is up to the task, but not even he can predict the surprises that lay in store.
After trying to make it on her own, Addie has returned home to Tacoma for the holidays, but this time she plans to stay for good, enrolling in the local community college to earn her degree. What she doesn’t plan to do is run into Erich Simmons.
Addie and her next-door neighbor, Erich, are like night and day. Growing up, he was popular and outgoing while she was rebellious and headstrong, and he never missed an opportunity to tease her. Now she intends to avoid him entirely, yet when they’re suddenly forced to spend Christmas together, Addie braces for trouble.
Perhaps it’s the spirit of the season or the magic of mistletoe, but Addie and Erich soon find they have more in common than they thought—and that two people who seem so wrong for each other may actually be just right. With a little prompting from a certain angelic teacher, the two are in for a holiday miracle they’ll never forget.

REVIEW:
This was my first Debbie Macomber book and I really enjoyed it. Of course I had to read it, it took place in my home town! This was a really fast read, which I enjoyed. The Christmas theme was perfect for this story. I liked that there were actually two stories happening at the same time. Harry was having a hard time adjusting to being an angel in a human body, and the predicaments he found himself in were downright hilarious. That storyline allowed for the subtle love story happening between a very grumpy Erich and hopeful Addie. There also was not a whole lot of drama between the two, just some tension that needed to get worked out – which was a welcome relief. I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the movie to come out!
