Kelly reviews Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

shield of winterTITLE: Shield of Winter
SERIES #: Psy-Changeling #13
CHARACTERS: Vasic & Ivy Jane
AUTHOR: Nalini Singh
NARRATOR: Angela Dawe
PUBLICATION DATE: June 3, 2014
RUN TIME: 15 Hours & 46 Minutes
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.

For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…

Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts

We all know (that is if you have read the first 12 books) that the Psy are a very cold race. They like everything perfect. There is no room for flaws of any kind. Flaws have been dealt with swiftly and harshly over the last 100 years. But with the fall of Silence in (bk 12 Heart of Obsidian) the Psy race is now fighting a new killer. One that does not care who or what stands in it’s way. There are two ways to save the Psy race: 1. Cut out the affected and kill millions or 2. Hope that the E-Psy will awake in time to stop choice number 1.

As always Nalini writes a story that sucks me in and makes me not want to leave no matter how bad it gets at time. Vasic and Ivy’s story is both amazingly filled with hope and heartbreakingly sad at the same time. I honestly had my doubts on Vasic based off prior books. He is the perfect Psy in all ways. Ivy Jane was new to me, but I loved her the minute she stepped on the page. These two are just flat out amazing together. Yes, I laughed, cried and wanted to kill the leaders of the Psy from 100 years ago. I want to say so much but don’t want to spoil it for you. Just know the manuals are very important!!! 🙂
I did listen to this book on audio as I have done with all of Nalini’s Psy-Changeling books. Ms. Dawe does a great job again with the voices of each character. My only issue was that the audio file I had seemed to go in and out. At times it seemed muffled at time. I am not sure what it was. But even with this I loved the story.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts Beau is the youngest of the Chiasson’s brothers. While he has always taking the stand that he doesn’t want or need love in his life (except for his family) he finds it hard to not notice the beautiful and mysterious Davena Arcineaux. But Beau is determine to do just that. Right up until evil touches his dreams. The smell of smoke and the taste of pure evil spars Beau into facing that fact that Davena needs him. But does she?

Davena is one tough chick, even if she doesn’t know it yet. She has an amazingly heart breaking story that only get worst. But when she things she is down and out for good her night with beautiful blue eyes comes in to rescue her. Davena is not willing to risk anyone else’s life ever again. But can she win alone?

Wild Need is book 3 in Donna Grant’s Chiasson series. And I believe that each story has gotten better and better. I loved Beau and Davena’s story. My only grip about this story is how long it took for Beau & Davena to come together. But it was necessary (you will have to read to find out). Oh and a little surprise at the end of the book had me saying “Look out world. Everything just changed.” I can’t wait for the next installment in this novella series.

All the Chiasson brothers has been hell bent on not having women in their lives. That worked really well until Vincent had to go and get himself in love with Olivia. But the other brothers are still taking that stand. But needless to say that doesn’t work out so well for Lincoln. The minute he sees Ava he knows he is doomed. But falling for Ava is only half of Lincoln’s problem. There is a werewolf on the loose and he has Ava in his sights.

Wild Dreams is novella number 2 in Donna Grant’s new Chiasson series. Wild Dreams was just as good as Wild Fever. But like any good novella Wild Dreams gave us a great quick read but left us wanting more. Oh and we get to meet the LaRue cousins and learn just a tad bit about them. I am looking forward the need book in this novella series Wild Need.

Bound by Danger is the second book in Katie Reus’ news Deadly Ops series. Bound by Danger is every bit as good as Targeted (bk 1). From page one there is not stop action. And even in the middle of a life and death situation Katie is able to let our hero & heroine have a great love story.

If you have not started this series and you love romance suspense I would suggest picking up a copy of Bound by Danger and Targeted.

Kelly & Kimberly review Hero Of A Highland Wolf by Terry Spears

hero of highland wolfTITLE: Hero of A Highland Wolf
SERIES #: Heart of the Wolf #14
CHARACTERS: Grant MacQuarrie & Colleen Playfair
AUTHOR: Terry Spears
PUBLICATION DATE: August 5, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
She’s ready for change…
Colleen Playfair has never been to Scotland, but when she discovers she must spend a year and a day overseas learning to manage her newly inherited estate, she’s ready for the challenge. She even has some ideas for improvements-if she can get past the sexy werewolf who seems convinced he’s the one in charge.
But he’s digging in his claws…
Grant MacQuarrie and his clan have been managing Farraige Castle for three centuries. The last thing he wants is a meddling American heiress trying to change the way things have always been done. He’s more than willing to fight the she-wolf every step of the way, using every tool at his disposal. And if that means taking the lass to bed, well…all the better.
Locked in a battle of wills, caught in an attraction they can’t escape, Colleen and Grant must find a way to work together…or face losing it all

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts Grant will not let another Fairplay come into his home and try to take over. He didn’t let the last one do that and he won’t let this one do it either. But poor, poor Grant has no idea what is about to walk through his doors.

Colleen is excited and nervous to finally be at the Farraige Castle and ready to take on the manager of the estate too. No matter what he has planned she is ready. One little problem. No one told her that Grant and his clan were Highland Wolfs. Well doesn’t that just throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing.

I didn’t realize when I pick this book up that it was book 14 of Terry’s Heart of the Wolf series. But Hero of a Highland Wolf was easily read as a stand alone. Yes there were other couples together that made me realize that I might have missed a book or two before this one, but I would not have guessed I missed 13 :).

I really enjoyed Grant & Colleen. They are both alpha to the core yet they both turn to putty when they are together. Something that fires both of them at times. I loved the all night girl party that Colleen has with Julia. My only issue with this story is the drama. I would have loved to see that bad guy get a little more sneaky and maybe his ass handed to him a little more. But all in all this was a great Highland Wolf story :). Come one hot wolf shifters in kilts? Does it get much better?

I can’t wait to see what Terry has in store for these Highland Wolfs. I have my guess who is next and it should be a fun ride to watch him fall.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts This is the 14th in the series and I have to say I have only read one other which I enjoyed and plan to go back and read the whole series but I really loved this book. Colleen and Grant had an interesting connection. They really hit it off right from the start. I adored Colleen. I want to be her friend. She has a great sense of humor and is snide and quick witted. I also liked she was alpha. So many times we hear about the men being alpha but it was great to have the girl be it too.
Grant is great. He is so alpha and yet can be so adorable. I loved him and everyone else for that matter at the ladies party. I could not stop smiling. They are just so cute during that exchange. I can’t wait for the other two triplets to get their stories.

I really enjoy this series. I enjoy the humor that Spear adds to her paranormal romance. If you are a fan of shape shifters then you will really enjoy this book. You do not need to have read the series to read this book even though you will certainly want to go back and read them all.

CHARACTERS: Tate & Chessy
AUTHOR: Maya Banks
PUBLICATION DATE: August 5, 2014

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Chessy and Tate have been married for several years. In the beginning, their relationship was everything she wanted. Passionate. All consuming. She offered her submission freely and Tate cherished her gift with a tenderness that made her feel safe. Content. Wanted. And loved beyond all measure. Growing unhappier with the status of their once blissful marriage, Chessy knows that something has to give. Or they stand to lose it all

Gutted with the realization that he’s going to lose her—has already lost her—he readies for the fight of his life. Whatever it takes, he’ll get her back. And prove to her that nothing is more important than her love. And that if she’ll allow him to prove himself one more time, he’ll take it all. Everything. But he’ll give far more back. Himself. His undying love

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Taking it All is the final book in Maya Bank’s Surrender Trilogy. Taking it All was an extremely emotional story to read. If you have not read the first two books there may be spoilers. So I would suggest reading Letting Go (bk1) & Giving In (bk2) first. **** We have know since book one that something is not right between Tate & Chessy. We just haven’t know all the details of what, why and who? But in Taking it All we finally find out the answers. And some of them are not pretty. In the prior books I felt so bad for Chessy and Tate. In the beginning I figured it would be a simple I am a dumbass please forgive me. Then the restaurant happened and I started not feeling so sorry for Tate. Then he explained. And just when I think things are going to be okay The House scene happens and let me tell you I lost any feelings I had for Tate right then and there. I am happy that Tate & Chessy were able to make amends. I am not sure I would be that strong or forgiving ****
All in all this was a great trilogy. One thing I love about trilogy’s is that you know that the story lines will be wrapped up in a nice bow in a short period. But I do hope that in the future Maya will revisit these couples and give us an update maybe in the form of a novella trilogy. 🙂

Kelly & Natasha review Crave The Night by Lara Adrian

crave the nightTITLE: Crave the Night
SERIES #: Midnight Breed #12
CHARACTERS: Nathan & Jordana
AUTHOR: Lara Adrian
PUBLICATION DATE: August 5, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.75 Hearts We all fell in love with Nathan as a young 13 year old boy back in Hunter’s book. Nathan had been taken from his mother and put into the hunters training course and raised to be a cold blooded killer by the Breed’s enemy. While he might have been saved by his mother and new family the demons of his past will never leave him. Making it extremely difficult to be normal or as normal as a Breed member can be. But one small, determined Breed-mate might just be the one thing that Nathan needs to realize that his is not the monster he believes himself to be.

I have been away from the Midnight Breed series way to log!! I loved Nathan as a young boy and loved seeing glimpses of him in Edge of Dawn. And loved this book. Lara does a great job of sucking me back into the Breeds world. There are new twists and turns in the world and a newest enemy of the Breed is more determined than ever. I just love this series and so can’t wait to see what is next!!

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS I was so excited for this book! I am so obsessed with this series, and am thankful that Lara has decided to continue the series with the next generation of Breed! I couldn’t put this book down, I devoured it! I’ve loved Nate since we first met him and couldn’t wait to dig deeper into his character and past. He didn’t disappoint. The electricity between him and Jordana vibrated off of the pages and it was palpable. My only complaint is that their relationship felt a little rushed and lacked depth. I would have liked to see them spend more time together, getting to know each other more. I still feel that Nate is somewhat of a mystery to me. I love where the story is going and the new twists and turns taking place. It will definitely be an exciting future for the Breed and I can’t wait!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
It had always been her…

Ten years had passed since the doors slammed shut behind Decker Calhoun, taking away his freedom, but more importantly, locking him away from Elizabeth Waters, the only woman he’d ever loved—the woman he’d given up everything for.

The day he was sentenced, he’d looked at her and said, No regrets, Lizzie. But he lied, because he did have one. Although he’s been out of jail for three years now, he was a year too late. Lizzie never knew how he felt and just months before he was released, she found somebody else and it’s too late.

Or maybe not. It seems that Lizzie’s boyfriend wants an open relationship and two can play at that game. Now all Decker has to do is convince Lizzie that he’s the better man…and has been all along.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Decker and Lizzie have a history. A history that is not pleasant. A history that both wish they could forget. But they can’t. Lizzie has tried to move on. Maybe not super successfully, but at least she has tried. Decker on the other hand has not been able to move on.
This was a really good quick read. As with all novella’s I can’t in good faith give you to much. But I loved Decker & Lizzie’s story. Even if the truth was staring them in the fact the whole time.

If you are looking for a quick read about love, forgiveness and a chance at happiness you should pick up a copy of You Own Me.

CHARACTERS: Drake & Victoria
AUTHOR: Katie Reus

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
He spent more than a thousand years imprisoned in hell…

Drake is an ancient dragon shifter, one of the most powerful beings in existence, but a millennium trapped in utter darkness has left him ill-equipped for modern society. If it wasn’t for Victoria, the sweet female brave enough to befriend him, he’d be lost. She’s smart and gorgeous and everything he never dared dream of during his years of agonizing loneliness. He may not have anything to offer her, but one thing he knows for sure: he’d die to keep her safe.

Only to fall into the heaven of her touch.

Victoria is a wolf shifter, healer of the Stavros pack. She’s seen a lot, but she’s never met anybody quite like Drake, the fiery, fascinating shifter who can blaze through the skies unseen by mere mortals. He’s lost, dangerous, and the last male she should fall in love with, but the more time she spends helping him navigate modern life, the deeper—and hotter—their connection becomes. She’s thrilled when they finally locate his family, but reuniting with his people plunges them both into unimaginable danger. It’s a race against the clock trying to figure out who wants them dead and who they can trust, especially when the threat is closer than they ever imagined

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Taste of Darkness picks up a few months after the end of Darkness Awakened (bk1). Drake is out of Hell and trying to figure out his place in the world. He may not have much in the way of money or experience in this new world, but one thing Drake does know is that he will do everything to be the man that Victoria needs. But as Drake tries to navigate this new world the past comes back to bite him in the butt
This was a great follow up to Darkness Awakened. I knew from the minute the Drake blasted on to the pages that he would be a very important person in this world. And I was right. Drake’s reappearance into the world really up roots the world. And brings in a whole bunch of new characters that I can’t wait to read about. Drake and Victoria are just to cute together. I loved the Drake is trying so hard to be who he thinks Victoria wants. Yet Victoria keeps telling him that all she wants is Drake, just the way he is. I hope that Ms. Reus will revisit these two soon.

ShatteredTITLE: Shattered
SERIES #: Iron Druid Chronicles #7
CHARACTERS: Atticus O’Sullivan, Granuaile McTerine & Owen Kennedy
AUTHOR: Kevin Hearne
NARRATOR: Luke Daniels
PUBLICATION DATE: June 17, 2014
RUN TIME: Hours & Minutes
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N |Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
For nearly two thousand years, there was only one Druid left walking the Earth—Atticus O’Sullivan, the Iron Druid, whose sharp wit and sharp sword kept him alive while pursued by a pantheon of hostile deities. Now he’s got company.

Atticus’s apprentice Granuaile is at last a full Druid herself. What’s more, Atticus has defrosted an archdruid long ago frozen in time, a father figure (of sorts) who now goes by the modern equivalent of his old Irish name: Owen Kennedy.

And Owen has some catching up to do.

Atticus takes pleasure in the role reversal, as the student is now the teacher. Between busting Atticus’s chops and trying to fathom a cell phone, Owen must also learn English. For Atticus, the jury’s still out on whether the wily old coot will be an asset in the epic battle with Norse god Loki—or merely a pain in the arse.

But Atticus isn’t the only one with daddy issues. Granuaile faces a great challenge: to exorcise a sorcerer’s spirit that is possessing her father in India. Even with the help of the witch Laksha, Granuaile may be facing a crushing defeat.

As the trio of Druids deals with pestilence-spreading demons, bacon-loving yeti, fierce flying foxes, and frenzied Fae, they’re hoping that this time . . . three’s a charm.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
REVIEW:
Once again I found myself drawn into the world of Druids, Fae’s and magic. There was a lot going on in this book. So if you have not started this series yet, you really need to start with book one. If not you will be completely lost on the events that happen in Shattered.
Kevin changed things up a bit in Shattered. The book was not told solely from Atticus’s point of view, which was good and bad.
Good because we got to learn more about Granuaile and Owen. It was good to see Granuaile grow as a Druid. It was a very painful growth, but I do believe that she will become an even more amazing Druid. Good because Owen gets real and learns a thing or two about life and himself.
Bad, because listening on audio I am totally in love with Luke Daniel’s version of Atticus & Oberon, so there was less Atticus talking.
Overall this was a great book. If you are a fan of the IDC then you will enjoy this book. Like I said in the beginning it is written different 3 POV. I will say it took me a bit to get into, but in the end I really enjoyed and loved having the different POV’s. I for one am looking forward to the next IDC series and hope that Atticus & Granuaile get a little more time together in the next one!!

As always Luke Daniel’s wins my heart. I love to listen to him read. Just love him. Yep… that is all I got. Just love him!!!

Kelly & Kimberly review Desired by Stacey Kennedy

DesiredTITLE: Desired
SERIES #: Club Sin #3
CHARACTERS: Kyler Morgan & Ella Snow
AUTHOR: Stacey Kennedy
PUBLICATION DATE: July 22, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey are sure to love Desired, USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy’s latest seductive, electrifying novel of Club Sin, where fantasy becomes reality.

Kyler Morgan, Master at the legendary Club Sin in Las Vegas, knows how to give women what they want—too well. He hasn’t had a real challenge in a long time. Then Ella Snow enters his life. Beautiful, inhibited, and innocent in the ways of submission and domination, Ella is the new blood he’s been lusting after. Soon, the thrill of training her to embrace his world brings forth desires Kyler cannot control.

After ending an abusive relationship, Ella makes a promise to herself to start living life to the fullest. It’s one of the reasons she seeks out Club Sin. Here, Kyler’s every touch is a lesson in liberation, stirring passions that have no bounds. But as she falls under Kyler’s command, Ella discovers that some secrets are so dark they must come to light. Submission alone may not be enough to save her, leaving her Master with only one question: How can he help Ella heal while unlocking the deep pleasures she craves?

Desired is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts Stacey Kennedy’s third book in the Club Sin series was just as great as the first two. In Desired we get to finally learn more about Kyler Morgan and what makes him tick. As he watches closest friends each find the woman of their dream, he starts to realize that he wants that too. Only problem is that none of the woman that he are currently in his life will fit the bill. That very last thing that Kyler ever thought he would be drawn to is the very vanilla woman sitting across the room from him. But something about Ella draws Kyler in like a moth to a flame.

Ms. Kennedy is a great story teller her and maybe an even better kink story teller. I really enjoyed seeing how soft and kind Kyler really can be, yet still being a very good Dom. I will say that restaurant scene was……… well I think you need to pick up a copy of Desired and find out for yourself.

Looking forward to the next chapter in the Club Sin series.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts From the first couple of pages I knew this was going to be my favorite (so far) of the series. I have liked Kyler from book one. Something about his was so special and he seemed to enjoy the idea of love. He wanted to help his friends fall in love not just enjoy sex. So when a woman came into Kyler’s life he would love with all his heart and soul. And we finally got to meet this woman.

I enjoyed everything about this story and while the sex was written really well I really appreciated that Kyler didn’t change as the story progressed. I was worried that some how Kyler would decide he didn’t want to love and had made a mistake and the other Masters would have to come in and remind him of who he was but I was so glad that did not happen. He stayed true to the character from book one. Ella was an interesting character. And so perfect for Kyler. She needed him and Kyler needs to be needed. There were times I was not fond of Ella but I always seemed to like her.

If you are a fan of this series then this will enjoy this one as well and probably more than the others. If you are new to the series/author pick this one up because you will enjoy it so much and become a fan.

Rescued by Henrik in the heat of battle, Cosmina must decide whether to trust the assassin who loathes the goddess she serves or face certain death on her own. Forced into an untenable position, Henrik is left with a terrible choice—protect the magical Order he despises, or deny destiny and lose the woman he loves forever

REVIEW:
Oh Henrik… How do I love you? Let me count the ways. One you are bad ass assassin. Two you are a hot bad ass assassin. Three you are a deadly, hot, bad ass assassin. Do I need to keep going? I guess not. I loved Henrik in book one Knight Awakened and loved him even more in Knight Avenged.
Henrik does a lot of growing in this book. He finally comes to terms with who he is, why he is and what he is.
Cosmina. Really liked this girl. She is tough when she needs to be. Yet she is really a sweet girl. And really knows how to get under Henrik’s skin 🙂

Another great read from Coreene. I just love this world of the Circle of Seven warriors. Although, I really wish Halál would get his just desserts already. That man gets on my last nerve. But like every good villain he knows when to tuck tail and run. Henrik & Cosmina are great together. I loved their bickering and the pull that they feel to each other despite the fact that they don’t want to feel it. I loved that we got a closer look at some of the other warriors. I want to know what makes Tareek tick, this boy has secrets. I want to know what Kazim is and why Thea loves him so much. So many need to knows. But one thing for sure I am so glad that Henrik is finally in a good place.

I can’t wait to see what the next book holds for Cristobal.
