But when Anya uses the media to taunt the killer, she exposes Heath’s identity, putting them both in jeopardy. And they’ll use anything and anyone to get to Heath.

With twists and turns that will take your breath away, LETHAL LIES is sexy, action-packed suspense at its very best from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts As we learned from Deadly Silence (book 1) that Heath, Ryker and Denver are on the run from their past. A past that is slowly but surely catching up with them. In Lethal Lies (book 2) that past comes a knocking on their door.
We learn a lot more about the Blood Brother’s past life and the people after them. We also get a few glimpses of the Sin Brothers, which I hope means we will see them again really soon. I enjoyed Heath’s story. While his past is heartbreaking he is the sweetest of all three of the guys. What tough guy saves a little bird :). I enjoyed Anya also. She is tough and smart.
I am looking forward to Denver’s book. I do believe that his book is going to be a doozy. I hope that we will get the big show down between the Blood Brothers, the Sheriff and the Doc. Because the Sheriff and the Doc really need to go!!!

AUTHOR: Patricia Briggs
NARRATOR: Lorelei King
RUN TIME: 9 Hours & 4 Minutes
PUBLICATION DATE: February 9, 2019
ORDER LINKS: Audible | Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Welcome to Patricia Briggs’s world, a place where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shapeshifters live beside ordinary people” (Booklist). It takes a very unusual woman to call it home – and there’s no one quite like Mercy Thompson.
By day, Mercy is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shapeshifter with some unique talents, Mercy has often found herself having to maintain a tenuous harmony between the human and the not so human. This time she may get more than she bargained for.
Marsilia, the local Vampire Queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan – and she’s out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won’t be Mercy’s blood Marsilia is after.
It’ll be her friends’

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Bone Crossed finds us back in Mercy’s world after the events of Iron Kissed with Mercy not herself anymore. She has forever changed and it is making the people around her change too. But the one thing that hasn’t changed is the wolf’s need to protect her. Mercy will need all the help from her friends in this book. Because this time the Vampire Queen has Mercy in her crosshairs.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the way that Ms. Briggs tackled the events from book 3 and how Mercy is learning to cope. How Adam and the other are learning to help her too. Adam is so sweet and understanding. I love that Mercy and Ben are becoming better friends (because I am really liking Ben). We get to see a lot more of Stefan in Bone Crossed. He is not at his best and the Wolf’s have to save him a time or two. But we learn just how much he cares about Mercy. Well care might not be the right word for a vampires obsession. But I believe deep down Stefan might really be a good guy. And honestly if Marsilia wasn’t so evil and trying to always kill Mercy I think she would be pretty awesome.

If you have never tried an audio book you really should think about picking up this series. Ms. King is so amazing. The level of skill that this woman has is unreal. There are times with Adam, Stefan, Samuel or really any of them are talking that I totally forget that it is Lorelie narrating!! That right there my friends is the sign of a great narrator!!!

Kelly reviews Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs

TITLE: Iron Kissed
SERIES #: Mercy Thompson #3

AUTHOR: Patricia Briggs
NARRATOR: Lorelei King
PUBLICATION DATE: January 2, 2008
RUN TIME: 9 Hours & 11 Minutes
ORDER LINKS: Audible | Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape – but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her

REVIEW:
This story broke me. I had to power through the ending of this book. It hurt so much to listen to what Mercy went through. But if anyone can come out the other side stronger it will be Mercy. I don’t like it when authors make their character suffer like this and I just hope that it doesn’t affect Mercy’s future.
Even with all that happened Iron Kissed was a good book. It was a turning point for many storylines for Mercy. We finally resolve the love triangle. We learn more about the Fae and the powers they hold. We get to see Adam in full Alpha mode. We learn a lot more about Ben, which makes me love this British pain in the backside wolf. There is so much more I could tell you but I won’t.
If you are a Mercy Thompson fan please be warned that Iron Kissed is heartbreaking. If you are new to this series do not start with this book. Start with book one, learn who Mercy is and fall in love with her and her wolfs.

Ms. King does an amazing job yet again. I am completely blown away by her talents as a storyteller. Her ability to make it through a tough book like Iron Kissed just makes me love her that much more.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Another wonderful adventure with Mercy Thompson and the supernatural creatures of the Tri-Cities. I just love Mercy. She is smart, tough and wily just like the coyote that she is. Mercy had to use all of her skills in Blood Bound! There is a lot of things that happen that will make future stories very interesting.
The love triangle between Adam-Mercy-Samuel is driving me a bit nuts!! Make a choice girl!!! I love both of these wolfs and am going to be be heartbroken for one of them.
I can’t wait to see what is next for Mercy!!!
And of course the amazingly talented Ms. King lends her voice to bring Mercy, Adam, Samuel, Stefan and the rest of wolfs, vamps, shifters, fae and others. I always love having Ms. King read to me a story. Because she doesn’t’ just read it she lives the story. There is a huge difference between reading and telling a story and Ms. King does this job wonderfully!!!
On to the next story!!

REVIEW:
Moon Called introduces us to the a world where the Paranormals real and humans just found about the Fae. They have yet to find out about the Were’s, the Vampires or what Mercy really is.
Where have I been? And how the heck did I miss out on this series until now? I guess the only good thing is that I am able to listen to the stories back to back to back. Which is making me a very happy girl! Ms. Briggs amazing story writing plus the gloriously talented narrating of Ms. Lorelei King equals WINNER!!!!!
I love Mercy! She is strong, determined and willing to always push the envelope. She knows when she needs to but in (which is always) and when to but out (which is never) and boy does she know how to get herself in a pickle.
I really enjoyed the cast of characters in this series. I can’t wait for more adventures with Mercy, Adams, Samuel, Stephen, Z , Uncle Mike and the rest of the unfriendly’s in the Tri-Cities.

REVIEW:
After Loretta’s divorce she found herself at a bit of a cross roads. Not really knowing what to do or where to go. But when she thought of were she wanted to raise her daughter the only place that would do would be Hope. But going home is not always the easiest thing to do. Going home means facing your past. A past that involves on Deacon Fox.
Another wonder story from Hope, Oklahoma. In Love Me Again we get to see high school sweethearts Deacon and Loretta reconnect after to many years apart. I really enjoyed watching Loretta grow as a person and a mom. For her to find her own footing but still being able to lean on Deacon.
I really enjoyed this story. Deacon is just so sweet and forgiving. He knows what he wants and is not afraid to go for it. Convincing Loretta might be another story. And of course Otis!! I mean who could love this silly, tomato plant stealing, shoe chewing guy?

But I do want to know about the two high school friends. It felt like the story line on that was never really resolved. Yes there was a confrontation but I wanted more out of it. Maybe in a future book there will be more? I don’t know. But until then. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

3.5 Hearts Dakota Hale has always known what it was like to be an outsider. From a birth she was an outcast in her family. But that didn’t stop her from becoming an wonderful person that has made her own success.
Max Carr is your Wall Street guy who only thinks about the next deal, the next dollar and the next adventure. He is pretty much a self absorbed rich guy. But buying Windhaven is about to change his life in ways he never could imagine.

REVIEW:
Any Day Now was a great follow up book in Ms. Carr’s new Sullivan’s Crossing series. I really enjoyed book one What We Find and enjoyed Any Day Now just as much. I really enjoyed watching Sierra try to portray herself as this tough as nails and I don’t need anyone person. Only for her to find out that while yes she is stronger than she thought. And the idea of having people in her corner is really not that scary.
I loved the dog saving scene. I loved that Sierra would risk herself to save such a sweet puppy.
Connie and Sierra are get together. It was great to see how patient Connie was with her. Letting her realize what he knew all along.
I can’t wait to see what is next for this series.

4.5 Hearts OZZIE!!!!!!

AUTHOR: Tawna Fenske
NARRATOR: Carly Robins
PUBLICATION DATE: April 4, 2017

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

Her law career ended before it ever started, her parents landed in jail for running a Ponzi scheme, and she just inherited her grandmother’s B&B—which is nice, even if it is full of extra-toed cats. As for her love life…she’d rather not talk about it.

When Jack Carpenter reaches out to reconnect with Allie, the girl who broke his heart in college, his plan is to impress her with the adult he’s become. Sure, he was a deadbeat then, but life has forced him to grow up. And it’s a relief to find out that things didn’t necessarily go the way Allie expected either.

As Allie and Jack get reacquainted, they rediscover the things they loved—and hated—about each other. But who they are now isn’t who they were then, and secrets—old and new—will test whether they have a future together, or if the past is destined to repeat itself.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts When we meet Jack he is coming back to Portland Oregon. One of his first order of business is to meet up with his old flame Allie. This first meeting is hilarious. It doesn’t quite go according as planned. When Jack offers to help Allie at the B&B everything changes.
Jack & Allie learn so much about themselves and each other. That had they stayed together their lives may not have turned out as amazing.
This was such a fun second chance at love story. It almost makes me wish I had someone in my past to reconnect….. Nope! I will leave that to Jack and Allie.

I had the honor of listening to this book. I do love me some audio books. This was my first story to have Ms. Robins narrat for me. She did a good job. My biggest issue was the male voices. At times it was a little hard tell the difference between Allie and Jack. I am not sure if it was because I was listening in the car? Or if there was just not enough difference in the depth of the voice.
If you are looking for a fun second chance at true love read you really should pick up a copy of This Time Around! If you are an audio book love go listen to the sample of this story!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
She has nothing to live for in the present, but finds there’s something worth dying for in the past…
From Tiffany Reisz, the international bestselling storyteller behind The Bourbon Thief and The Original Sinners series, comes an enthralling new novel about a woman swept away by the tides who awakens to find herself in 1921, reunited with the husband she’s been mourning for four years. Fans of Kate Morton and Diana Gabaldon will fall in love with the mystery, romance and beauty of an isolated South Carolina lighthouse, where a power greater than love works its magic.

REVIEW:
Another wonderful story from Ms. Reisz. I absolutely love The Bourbon Thief so I was so excited when I say that Ms. Reisz had another story coming out. While this book is not a continuation of The Bourbon Thief the story does include Bride Island. When I started this book I was not sure what was going to happen. But I really enjoyed Faye/Faith’s time traveling romance. Faye’s journey is one that a lot of people can connect with. So many people wish they could go back in time and change something. But the question should be what are you going to give up in the present to relive the past.
If you enjoy time-traveling stories I think that you will enjoy this story very much. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Reisz has in store for us next.

Kelly reviews Born A Crime by Trevor Noah

born a crimeTITLE: Born a Crime
AUTHOR: Trevor Noah
NARRATOR: Trevor Noah
PUBLICATION DATE: November 15, 2016
RUN TIME: Hours & Minutes
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | Audible | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The compelling, inspiring, and comically sublime story of one man’s coming-of-age, set during the twilight of apartheid and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed.

Trevor Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents’ indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa’s tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle.
Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man as he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist. It is also the story of that young man’s relationship with his fearless, rebellious, and fervently religious mother: his teammate, a woman determined to save her son from the cycle of poverty, violence, and abuse that would ultimately threaten her own life.
The eighteen personal essays collected here are by turns hilarious, dramatic, and deeply affecting. Whether subsisting on caterpillars for dinner during hard times, being thrown from a moving car during an attempted kidnapping, or just trying to survive the life-and-death pitfalls of dating in high school, Trevor illuminates his curious world with an incisive wit and unflinching honesty. His stories weave together to form a moving and searingly funny portrait of a boy making his way through a damaged world in a dangerous time, armed only with a keen sense of humor and a mother’s unconventional, unconditional love.

REVIEW:
This was a very enjoyable book. I really enjoyed having Trevor read this to me also. There is no way I would have ever been able to pronounce the African languages. This is just a wonderful love story to his mother. Trevor’s mom is a freaking rock star. I can’t even imagine my child being as naughty as him.
My favorite part of this book is the magnifying glass and the matches. I laughed so hard (kinda felt bad about it too).
Born a Crime is a wild ride of emotional highs and lows that makes you look at the life you have and be thankful all the potholes that you hit. Because they are just that. A bump in the road. Even if you get a flat you find a way to keep going. Now I don’t think I will try my hand at jumping out of a moving car. But you know sometimes you just have to do it.
If you are looking for a good read you should think about picking up a copy of this book or better yet grab the audio book.
