Interview & Giveaway with Anne Cleeland

Anne CCan you please share with us a little about yourself?

I’m a lawyer by trade, and for years I earned my living writing dry legal briefs and thinking that I really should try to write fiction.  I’ve always been a reader, and I think most readers (after you’ve read your ten-thousandth romance) think they could probably write a decent story.  One day I went to my local RWA chapter meeting and I’ve loved every minute since—I strongly urge those of you who are in the same boat to find a group and just get started; it’s so much fun!

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not really—although I’ve always invented stories to amuse myself.   I think it’s probably easier if you consider writing as a hobby, and so if you happen to sell your story, that’s great. But if I never sold, I’d still be writing these stories because I enjoy them so much.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

I love romance, I love mystery and I love adventure stories, and I try to combine all three in each story.   For romance, my favorite is Georgette Heyer; for mystery, Agatha Christie; and for adventure, Edgar Rice Burroughs.  Their stories always have great characters and interesting, fast-moving plots, and that’s what I try to imitate.

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

I’ve read a million Regencies, and so that’s an era that I enjoy. I also write a contemporary mystery series that has a strong romance plotline.  I would love to write fantasy and science fiction, too.

What are some of your writing rituals?

Mainly I write whenever and wherever I get a chance—even in the middle seat of an airplane.  I do like to have some diet Dr. Pepper handy, though.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Daughter of the God-King is mostly set in Egypt.  The daughter of famous Egyptologists must travel to the Valley of the Kings to find out what happened to her parents, who are missing.  They were last seen working at their latest dig—the tomb of an unknown pharaoh’s daughter. Suddenly, various factions from Napoleon’s last war are pursuing the heroine, thinking she knows where her parents hid an unknown treasure. The hero is her parents’ mysterious agent, who is definitely not what he seems—but is he friend or foe?  In the end, the secrets contained in the tomb of the god-king’s daughter will change her life forever, and threaten to set the world ablaze in another war.

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

I’m a seat-of-the-pants writer, which means I have no idea.  I start writing and the story just seems to develop as I go along.  I always like to have big twists in my story, and this one has a doozy.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I’ve already written several more Regency adventure stories similar to this one—the stories are independent, but have cross-over references.  I also am writing a contemporary mystery series; Murder in Thrall came out in July and Murder in Retribution will come out next July.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

On the streets of Paris, the heroine is approached by a strange gentleman who will not identify himself but who nervously urges her to return to England, and to avoid Egypt at all costs.

What would you be if you were not an author?

A detective.  As long as nothing too scary happens.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’ll be with everyone else, lining up to see the next installment of The Hunger Games.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It’s a great time to be a reader, so I’d urge everyone to take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities on-line, such as Goodreads or great blogs such as this one.  And don’t forget your local bookstore—they need your support, too. And if you have the itch to write a book, just start typing; every journey starts with a single step.

Hattie Blackhouse is the only child of famous Egyptologists, and when they go missing, she travels to their latest excavation in ancient Thebes only to discover that she is attracting interest from the French, the British, and the Egyptians, who believe her the reincarnation of a long-dead princess.

In the second book in the Regency series, the heroine finds herself in the crosshairs of factions who are vying to support or thwart Napoleon’s latest attempt at world domination—and she unknowingly holds the key.

Interview & giveaway with Amanda Forester

Can you please share with us a little about yourself

Thanks for inviting me to share with you today.  I am excited to announce the release of my newest Regency novel, Midsummer Bride.  I took a chance with this book and wrote an unconventional heroine – an American heiress who is more interested in scientific experiments than finding a husband.  I see a little of myself in her and hope even science nerds can find love!

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I have always had stories floating around I my head, but I never thought of actually being a writer until a friend gave me a copy of a historical romance novel.  When I read the story, it resonated with the stories I had in my head such that I wanted to try writing one myself.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

Because I also have a day job and a family it’s hard to say I have a “typical” writing day.  Most of my writing happens when everyone else is in bed!

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

The most challenging part of writing is going back every day and continuing to slog along, even when I have no idea where I am going.  The best part about writing is getting to watch the characters that have been running around my brain come alive on the page.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?9781402271816-PR

Midsummer Bride was just released last week and is my second in the Marriage Mart trilogy (but you can read the books in any order!)  Miss Harriet Burton, a horrendously rich American heiress, laughs too loud, states her opinion directly, and even conducts science experiments. Her aristocratic uncle is desperate to get her off his hands and is offering a king’s ransom to anyone able to arrange a suitable marriage that comes with a title. In contrast, Harriet’s interests lie in science, returning to America, and avoiding matrimony, until she meets Duncan Maclachlan, Earl of Thornton. When Thornton is falsely accused of being a traitor, Harriet must use her knowledge of chemistry to find the real culprit and spark true romance.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I grew interested in writing an American heroine when I discovered how English ships of this time were patrolling the newly formed American waters, seizing American vessels, and since American citizenship was not recognized, impressing American sailors into service for the Royal Navy. And all this was legal under British law!  Of course the Americans felt differently about this and it was one of the reasons for the War of 1812.  Anyway, I began to wonder what would happen to an American heiress who gets caught up in one of these raids and is taken back to England, hence Midsummer Bride.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

I am currently finishing Winter Wedding, which completes the trilogy and the story of Miss Penelope Rose, marriage matchmaker, and the Duke of Marchford, marriage avoider, who are featured prominently in all three Marriage Mart books (Wedding in Springtime, Midsummer Bride, and Winter Wedding).

Who are some of your favorite authors?

There are so many I can hardly count, but I know Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer definitely drew me into writing in the Regency period.  I especially enjoy books with a lively plot and a dose of humor!

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

We all stand on the shoulders of the authors who have come before us, particularly those pioneers of historical romance who have established the genre. However, when I write I tend to look inward at my own stories and characters. It is tremendously rewarding to see the characters who have inhabited my brain come alive on the page.

Open your book to a random page and please reads us a few lines.

Ok, this is fun!  I have randomly opened to page 180.

“Legend has it the faeries and other fey creatures come out to play on Midsummer’s Night Eve. So for centuries people have been building bonfires to keep away unwanted spirits intent on causing mischief,” said Thornton.

“Like Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream?” asked Harriet.

“Precisely. Best to keep out of the forest lest that mischievous sprite Puck give ye a love potion.”

“Disastrous! I shall stay away!” She wondered how she could arrange a meeting with this Puck. Might be useful to have a love potion.

Thornton smiled. “Aye, beware the faeries.”

If he knew what she was thinking he would do well to beware of her.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Christmas novellas.  I’m crazy about them!  I love reading short holiday themed stories around the holidays.  Now if I could just finish my work in progress!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks so much for inviting me.  I hope a little Midsummer Bride will warm your hearts this holiday season!    I love to hear from readers so come visit me at my website, facebook, or twitter.

Interview & Tour Wide Giveaway with Jessica Lee

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to have Jessica Lee on the blog again today.

Jessica, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Let’s see… I’m a wife, mother, former science geek with a passion for writing romance novels filled with alpha male characters who bite.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Believe it or not, if someone had told me 20 years ago that I’d end up becoming a published author, I would have sworn they were crazy. Back in college, I would drop a course if I had to write a paper. lol I just don’t think I’d found the right inspiration until later in life when I picked up my first paranormal romance.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

Possibly that I’m neither a plotter or a pantzer. lol  I’m a little of both worlds. I always know the beginning of a new story and how it may end, and then I plot a little bit at a time as I go along.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

My latest release is Undying Embrace, A Novel of the Enclave, book two.

In Undying Embrace we learn more about Enclave warrior Arran MacLain and the female member of the team, Gabrielle Stevens who’s claimed his heart. Both carry a ton of baggage from their past, and because of those issues, they continue to fight their attraction.

Arran is vampire on a mission to find his partner, Markus, the male who betrayed not only him but the Enclave. During his search, he runs into Gabrielle who is on a mission herself to locate her missing sister. Together, they have to put aside their personal pain and join forces to fight the evil that’s invaded both their worlds.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

As with most of my stories, I usually have no idea how they pop into my head. lol This is book two, so Arran and Gabrielle’s story had already sparked in Undying Destiny. Somehow my characters invent themselves inside my head and come to life as I pen their story.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Currently I’m working on book three in the Ariel Estate series, Breaking the Ice. This series features my lion shifters! Next, I return to finishing book four in the Enclave series. Book three, Undying Desire, I expect Entangled Publishing to release the novel sometime in early 2014.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I’ve met Karen Marie Moning briefly once before at a luncheon and book signing, but it would be such an honor and amazing to spend a work day with her and pick her brain. lol  For me, she is a master story teller!

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Never give up, and never stop honing your craft. In my opinion, no matter how long you’ve been writing, there is always something more to learn.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

My bucket list…hmm…I’ve always wanted to travel through Ireland and Scotland on an extended vacation and tour all the beautiful castles.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Oh, that would be Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It’s next on my list followed by KMM’s upcoming release Burned!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much Books ‘n Kisses for the opportunity to stop by on my tour! Great questions!

Arran MacLain is a vampire on a suicide mission, driven to kill his former partner who betrayed him and the Enclave they served. But two things stand in his way: Gabrielle, the human female who holds his heart, and the past that won’t let him go. If only death was enough to cleanse his soul.

Gabrielle Steven’s sister is missing. Her hunt for clues brings her face to face with the one vampire she can’t forget. Their missions combine and thrust them into the heart of evil. Will their passion be enough to overcome the pain from their past, or will their dark desires destroy them both?

AuthorphotoJessicaLeeAuthor bio:

Almost every author’s bio states they’ve been writing since they learned how to read. It’s what they’ve always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn’t so straight and narrow. I was a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor’s degree in science with a major in biology. So as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn’t discover my passion for the craft until after I’d had my son and decided to work part-time.

I’ve always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning’s Spell of the Highlander. I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing, and I immediately fell in love with the genre.

I wanted to write like that. I wanted to create worlds where others could find the same escape and fascination I did when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.

And I hope that’s what I’ve accomplished in my work. Please dive in, hold on tight, and enjoy the adventure. Just be careful in the dark—you might find more than you expected waiting for you there.

Jessica Lee lives in the southeastern United States with her husband and son. She loves writing and can’t wait for that quiet time each day when her son is in school, and she can get lost in another place and world with the fantastical, sexy creatures in her head.

She’s a member of Romance Writers of America, FF&P, and Carolina Romance Writers.

Book Spotlight and Interview: Say Yes to the Duke by Kieran Kramer

sayyestotheduke

1. Tell me about your new release Say Yes to the Duke.

It’s a fun, romantic story about the middle sister – the one who’s not noticed as much as her “It Girl” older sister and her adorable younger sister.  Her mother told her, ” If you’re going to fall in love, it might as well be with a duke.” How many of us have been told, ” If you’re going to fall in love, it might as well be with a rich man?” Anyway, poor Janice is under so much pressure!  This is the story of her and her duke…but you might be surprised by what happens.

As usual, I put a lot of thought into my secondary characters, too.  I like the story to be populated with memorable people, so look out for Isobel, the maid, and the dowager duchess.  And then there’s Luke, the hunk in the stables!!!

2. Where did you come up with the idea for the series?

I dreamt about it one night. I woke up at 1 a.m. and ran to my computer and emailed my editor and agent.

3. The cover for Say Yes to the Duke is gorgeous.  How much input do you have on your covers?

I get to help choose the cover models, which is absolutely a blast! This cover was actually chosen by readers.  Heroes and Heartbreakers featured three covers created by the St. Martin’s Press art department, and this one won by a landslide!  I LOVE this cover.  Thank you.  I’ll be sure to tell the art department you like it, too!

4. What are you working on now?

I just finished my first contemporary romance called Sweet Talk Me.  It takes place in a fictitious South Carolina town and is about a starchy Southern belle and her troublemakin’ country singer ex.  They fall in love while he’s helping her get ready to marry another man.

5. Which authors/books do you feel have been a big influence on you becoming a writer?

Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Harper Lee, Victoria Holt, LaVyrle Spencer, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Sophie Kinsella, Beverly Cleary.

6. What was the first book that you ever wrote?  Was it published?

The first one I wrote as an adult was called Madeira, My Dear.  It was a 60,000-word Regency I wrote years ago when my children were babies.  It had a talking dog and all sorts of craziness.  I’d love to find it and read it again.  I did write a little book called The Adventures of Tom Nooley when I was eleven years old.  I was very proud of that.

Thank you so much for answering my questions.  I have loved all the books in the House of Brady series and I’m excited to read Say Yes to the Duke.

Thank you very much for these wonderful questions.  I wish you and all your readers a lovely autumn filled with many cozy moments reading fabulous books!

Jennifer’s Review of Say Yes to the Duke

sayyestothedukeTitle: Say Yes to the Duke

Series #: House of Brady #3

Characters: Janice Sherwood and Luke Callahan

Author: Kieran Kramer

Order Links: Amazon/ B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Janice Sherwood wants to marry for love, but she’s failed to make a match after two Seasons.  Her parents, the Marguess and Marchioness of Brady, arrange to send her to the Duke of Halsey’s country estate as a short-term guest of his grandmother, the dowager, in hopes that she might win the duke’s affections.  What they never could have imagined is that Janice would fall for the ruggedly handsome servant Luke, who lives in the stables and carries an air of mystery and temptation.

When Luke Callahan learns that he is the legitimate heir to a dukedom, he will stop at nothing to claim what is his.  But first, he must begin a game of disguise to secure his rightful inheritance.  Janice isn’t part of his plan.  But by engaging her in this dance of deception, might he lose her forever?

Review (4.5):
I am always impressed with Kieran Kramer’s talent in writing such wonderful romances that will have you rooting for the heroine to finally get her happy ending after facing obstacles that almost prevents her from finding true love.  I have loved this series from the beginning with Loving Lady Marcia and enjoyed her creative take on the classic television series, The Brady Bunch.

I’ve always liked Janice and I was happy to see her finally get her story.  Just like the television show, Janice was the middle daughter and always felt that she was outshined by her sisters.  Her older sister, Marcia, was the “pretty one” and Cynthia was the “cute one” while Janice was left in the shadows of their spotlight.  One thing I loved was how her personality changed over the course of this book and she became a strong woman who wouldn’t back down from anyone instead of just going along with everything like other women at the time.  There are a couple of scenes where Janice took advantage of her newfound situation and made the Duke’s lackeys help the community when they never had any intention of helping anyone but themselves.

The Duke of Halsey was an absolute jerk who took advantage of his social standing and used it as a platform to engage in unsavory activities.  He believed that women were just there to be used for his entertainment.  He never planned on getting married because that would spoil his never-ending party.  He was only interested in Janice because she did the exact opposite of what everyone expected and he wanted to see if the rumor about her sexual history was true or not. I wanted Luke to hit him over the head for some of the things that Halsey had done, he was that much of a jerk.

Luke Callahan was a great guy for Janice.  He was on a mission to find the truth about his heritage and didn’t plan on meeting or falling for Janice.  He never planned on deceiving her about his true intentions but I’m glad that everything worked out in the end.

I loved Say Yes to the Duke and can’t say enough good things about Ms. Kramer’s charming House of Brady series.  I’m looking forward to reading her next book in the series because I am sure to fall in love with her fun witty characters.

Interview & Awesome Giveaway with Julie Ann Walker

Welcome back to Books-n-Kisses Julie Ann.

JulieAnnWalkerFor those who missed your prior visits can you please share with us a little about yourself
Julie:  Hello! *waves* My name is Julie Ann Walker.  I write the bestselling Black Knights Inc. romantic suspense series.  I’m addicted to three things: coffee, handbags, and shoes.  I adore travelling and hope to visit 100 countries before I die – so far I’ve been to 43, which means I still have a lot of plane rides ahead of me.  LOL!  I’ve been married fifteen years to the love of my life.  And I ride my bicycle everyday when the weather is nice.

Have you always wanted to be an author?
Julie:  Well, I got my degree in mathematics, so I suppose the answer to this question in no.  😉  On the other hand, I’ve always written.  It’s just that I treated it more like a hobby because I figured the dream of actually becoming a published author was too big, unattainable for the likes of little ol’ me.  Imagine my surprise, then, when first a literary agent, and then a publisher actually wanted to print my books.  LOL!

Are you a plotter or a pantser or combo of both? And can you explain the difference?
Julie:  I’m a pantser all the way – meaning I write by the seat of my pants.  A plotter is someone who outlines their books beforehand, thinking through all the ins and outs, devising all the plot twists and character arcs.  Sometimes I wish I could do that.  It certainly seems more efficient.  But, alas, my method it to just sit down at the keyboard and go… letting the story take me where it will.  Yeehaw! *wink*

What is your most interesting writing quirk?
Julie:  I don’t know how interesting it is, but I’m obsessed with post-it notes.  If I have an idea about what should happen 20 pages further along in the book, I use a post-it note.  If something has occurred to me that should be added to a scene I’ve already written, I use a post-it note.  If I have an upcoming book reading or signing, I use a post-it note.  If I have a payment due for, say, a conference or something, I use a post-it note.  My office looks like total mayhem, but it’s actually quite organized.  Just DON’T TOUCH MY POST-ITS!  Or I might have to murder you… *gives the evil eye*

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?Born Wild Cover
Julie:  I’d love to!  So, Born Wild is sort of the book BKI fans have been waiting for.  The hero and heroine, Wild Bill Reichert and Eve Edens, have been dancing around each other since the beginning of the series.  We know there’s history between them… deep, dark, delicious history.  And in this book we finally find out what all the hot fuss is about.  Plus, in standard BKI form, there’s a devious villain, some flying bullets, kick butt motorcycles, and, of course, smokin’ hot sexy times.  😉

How did you come with the idea for this story?
Julie:  Like most of my books, I pulled this one straight out of my… ahem… you know.  *shakes head*  I never know where exactly the story will take me until I’m actually finished with it.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
Julie:  Absolutely!  I’ve just started working on the seventh book in the series.  It’s hero is BKI’s crazy cool Latin lover, Carlos “Steady” Santos.  And the heroine is the President’s daughter, Abigail Thompson.  There’s a kidnapping, ransom demands, a race through Southeast Asia, and some sweet lovin’ that’s guaranteed to set the pages on fire.  I’m having a blast writing it!

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
Julie:  I would kill  to meet Suzanne Brockmann.  She is the reigning queen of romantic suspense, and she’s the entire reason I started writing in the genre.  If I ever get the opportunity to meet her, I’ll likely prostrate myself at her feet.  So if you see me on the floor of a hotel lobby, kissing some woman’s toes, you’ll know it’s Suz Brockmann standing before me.  *snicker*

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Julie:  Read, write, read, write, rinse, and repeat until you’ve got something that’s ready to be put out into the world!

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.
Julie:  I would love to live abroad in Ireland for a year.  It’s one of my most favorite spots on the planet.  The pubs, the Guinness, the soda bread, the fields of heather, the blarney… *sigh*  Heaven.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
Julie:  My friend, Amanda Carlson, writes some of the best Urban Fantasy out there.  The third book in her series, Cold Blooded, debuted about a month ago, and I can’t wait to dig in!

What is one book everyone should read before they die?
Julie:  Gone With The Wind… without a doubt.  I’ve read it at least a dozen times.  And every time, I find something new and wonderful about the story.  Scarlett is such a difficult heroine.  She’s so complicated and easy to hate, yet she’s amazingly strong and resilient.  I love characters that are deeply three-dimensional.

What is your favorite time of year & why?
Julie:  Summer!  I’m outdoorsy.  And when I can’t go out and play, I get – as my husband so delicately puts it – cranky.   😉

Who is your Celebrity crush?  And what would you do if you ever meet them?
Julie:  Currently, I’m a bit enamored of Tom Hardy.  I mean, those lips. Hubba, hubba.  If I ever met him?  Well, I’ll probably try to steal a kiss.  Just a quick one.  Nothing to get me in trouble with Mr. Walker.  LOL!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Julie:  Just a giant cyber hug and my heartfelt thanks for having me back on Books-N-Kisses.  This is always such a treat!

Interview with TJ Bennett

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome TJ Bennett to the blog today .
TJTJ, can you please share with us a little about yourself
My father was career military, so I traveled quite a bit in my youth. I’ve been all over Europe, visited Morocco, and even managed to hit Australia in my older years. I think that is where my love of historicals comes from. Seeing all that history up close. I’ve also been a contract negotiator, an educator, a ghostwriter, a cake decorator, an editor, a dissertation reviewer, and currently I coordinate professional development programs for the staff of a state university in East Texas. I know, it sounds like I can’t hold down a job, right?  Learn more about TJ here: Website  Blog  Twitter  Goodreads  Newsletter
Have you always wanted to be an author?
Pretty much since I was eight years old. I stopped to do other things for a while (see my response to your first question), but the desire has always been in there somewhere.
What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I always have to go edit the last few pages I wrote before I can move on to the next part. It is my way of getting back into the mood and character of the story. That, and the munchies. Must have munchies when I write. That might be why I suffer from what is affectionately (or lamentably) known as “writer’s bottom (insert your own euphemism here).”
Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)? Dark Angel
When young widow Catherine Briton is washed ashore, the sole survivor of a violent shipwreck, all she wants is to go home to London. But injured as she is, she can’t escape when a shadowy stranger rescues her and takes her to his castle—where she’s healed with suspicious, almost magical speed.

The more time Catherine spends in the castle, the more her curiosity rises where her fiercely handsome new “master,” Gerard, is concerned. As she begins to investigate, though, her discoveries only bring more questions. It seems Gerard isn’t the only one on the island keeping secrets…The small town is full of strange mysteries and townspeople who know more than they should about her. And when a hulking beast that stalks the nearby hills and valleys catches up to her, Catherine must figure out what’s going on before it’s too late.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

The first line of the book came to me, and it just spun out from there. I felt much of the time I was working on it that the book was writing itself. It really isn’t like anything I’ve ever done before.
Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I’m working on a late-Victorian set piece that has a lot of drawing room wit in it. At least I hope it does. I’m enjoying the characters and their banter and repartee.  The characters are showing up fully realized, another thing that is unusual for me, and it looks like there might be more than one story to tell there—several intriguing characters in star-crossed lover sort of tales. We’ll have to wait and see.
Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
Laura Kinsale. She is just brilliant. Her characters are multi-layered, complex, her research is extensive and yet seamlessly woven into the story and she always does something unexpected and smart. I’d love to just talk to her and find out how her brain works.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Make sure you do your homework, pay your dues, have very thick skin, and a whole lotta patience, because you are going to need it! Also, don’t give up your day job. It can take a long time for you to hit it big, if ever, no matter how talented you are.
Can you share with us something off your bucket list.
I have always wanted to travel to Alaska by ship. And I’d love to go back to Scotland and do the Highlands and Islands tour this time. My husband and I went to Scotland early on in our marriage before the kids were born and we’ve talked about going back and seeing what we missed, but there never seems to be time.
What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I actually like the Richard Castle mystery books. They are quite good, and since I love the TV show, I can picture the characters behaving the way they do in the show. I’ve downloaded the latest but haven’t read it yet. I’m also anxious to get started on JK Rowling’s nom de plum book The Cuckoo’s Calling.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for letting me visit! I hope your readers get a chance to read Dark Angel.

Interview & Giveaway with Thea Harrison

TheaBooks-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Thea Harrison to the blog today.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Thea Harrison is the pen name for Teddy Harrison. Thea has traveled extensively, having lived in England and explored Europe for several years. Now she resides in Colorado. She wrote her first book, a romance, when she was nineteen and had sixteen romances published under the name Amanda Carpenter.

She took a break from writing to collect a couple of graduate degrees and a grown child. She experienced waitressing as a teenager, has worked as an activist for a non-profit consumer rights organization, has been a receptionist, an office manager, a penniless graduate student, a director of development and research, and a single mom. Her graduate degrees are in Philanthropic Studies and Library Information Science, but her first love has always been writing fiction.

Her paranormal Elder Races series began May 3, 2011 with Dragon Bound, which won RT Book Review’s Book of the Year Award, and the Romance Writer’s of America RITA in the paranormal romance category.

All five of her full length novels in the Elder Races series have won Top Picks from RT Book Reviews. Book two in the series, Storm’s Heart, and book four, Oracle’s Moon, hit the USA Today bestseller’s list, while book three, Serpent’s Kiss, hit the New York Times extended bestseller list. Her fifth book, Lord’s Fall, hit both the USA Today and the New York Times extended lists.

She adores animals and currently resides with two small dogs that have very large personalities.

Q:  What is one of your favorite Myths/legends to write about?

A:  When I started to write my reply to this question, I realized it wasn’t going to be a simple or easy answer!  I’ve had so much fun with the world building in the Elder Races series.  It’s almost impossible to pick just one.

I really enjoyed taking the Oracle of Delphi and putting it into a modern context for Oracle’s Moon.  When I turned my attention to the witches’ demesne in Louisville, I wanted to make sure it felt as rich and developed as the rest of the world building I’d done for the other demesnes and mythological creatures.  That story was fun for a lot of reasons, because I also really enjoyed building the Djinn society based on Middle Eastern legends.

Another favorite has been developing the Elves, in Lord’s Fall and continued in Kinked.  And a third was when I created my own version of Vampyres in Serpent’s Kiss.  I have two more Vampyre stories that I’m dying to tell.  When I get excited about a story, it’s hard to wait for the right time to tell it!

Q:  You’ve been gifted (or cursed) with the ability to shift into another form by a witch. What kind of shifter are you and why?  (All creatures, including mythological, apply.)

A:  Awesome question!  I think I have two answers for that one.  If it was a gift, then I think it would have to be something winged and strong.  I think there’s something to be said for being as fearless as a harpy, although I’m quite sure I wouldn’t win any popularity contests!

If the ability was a curse and meant to be nasty, the witch would probably turn me into my phobia—a spider!  That would be the meanest, nastiest thing anybody could ever do to me!

Q:  Since Aryal is a harpy and considered an immortal Wyr, how did you approach her character development in order to make her believable and someone that readers can identify with?

A:  I’ll be honest, I was worried about writing Aryal.  I really didn’t want to compromise her identity.  Aryal has strong emotions but no real morals in the abstract sense, no true compulsion to do what is right for its own sake.  She’s abrasive and dangerous… And I had to figure out how to also make her sympathetic.

My first decision was to not be in a hurry to write her story.  I wanted to take the time to show her character from a couple of different points of view.  The reader first sees Aryal from Pia’s perspective in Dragon Bound, but then in Storm’s Heart I was able to show Aryal from Tricks’ point of view, someone who loved her.  I also wanted to make sure that humor came into the mix.  Still, the real test came when I sat down and actually started writing Kinked.  Then I had to get close enough to her to write her as a main POV character.  It helped that I had so many established relationships and characters to work with—such as Grym, Dragos and Graydon—and the world-building in place.  With that in place, I could concentrate on developing Aryal herself.  I’m very grateful to my editor Cindy Hwang for providing such a supportive platform to write Kinked.

Q:  Do you have an Elder Race Bible to help keep your facts start?  If not, how the heck do you keep your facts start?

A:  So far I’ve had two things in my favor—I’ve got a bit of a freakish memory for detail when it comes to writing, and I also have fantastic beta readers who are good at spotting issues.  Still, the world has become big and complicated enough that I’ve got someone working on a series bible right now.  It’s over a hundred pages by now and should be done by the end of the year.

Q:  Who was the harder character to write Aryal or Quentin and why?

Neither character was as hard as I had feared they would be when I started Kinked.  Still, Quentin was easier.  I felt more confident writing his character, and I felt the stakes were pretty high on getting Aryal’s character right.

Q:  Was there anything about Aryal that surprised you as her story unfolded?

A:  I think I probably had the same experience as a writer that several readers have had so far in reading the book—I was surprised at how much I ended up liking and enjoying her.  I wouldn’t want to rush out and befriend a real-life Aryal, but I think she’s pretty cool between the pages, and I’m really looking forward to writing more about her.

Q:  In the event of an apocalypses (zombie, alien, solar flare or 4 horsemen) which of your characters would you like to team up with?

A:  I would absolutely like to team up with Dragos—as long as I was someone he valued, otherwise he might ditch me in a heartbeat.

Q:  What is next for the Elder Race series?

A:  I’m now contracted for books 7-9, so I’m writing Graydon’s story which will be released around August of 2014.  The main characters have also been decided for books 8 and 9, and I’m eager to get to those stories!

I also wrote a self-published project, a novella entitled Dragos Takes A Holiday, which releases November 25th.  I loved spending time with Dragos and Pia, and their little son Peanut gets his POV debut.

It’s been a pleasure to visit with you.  Thanks for having me!

REVIEW:
Aryal has been on a mission since the moment she met Quentin. She wants to air out all his dirty laundry and then kill him. But Aryal has been finding that a little difficult she can’t find anything on him.
Quentin has avoided getting close to anyone for so long, that even sex is a hand off act. But Aryal brings something to the surface that he doesn’t like or can control.
Forced together to work on a mission these to are either going to kill each other, come back to no jobs, or learn to work with each other and finally bury the hatch.
Which one will it be.

I enjoyed this story, it was not love until the end. I really enjoyed watching Aryal and Quentin fight each other, the attraction and fate. But there were parts and pieces of the story that were a little boring for me but overall it was a good story. Lots of action, lots of drama and lots of words that I don’t have a clue how to pronounce. 🙂

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Interview & Tour Wide Giveaway with Renea Mason

Renea MasonBooks-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome first time guest Renea Mason to the blog today.  Renea, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I’m a business professional by day, smut writer by night.  All-time mom and wife.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

No.  I only found my love of writing in the past year and a half.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

Eight to nine hours in the office, dinner with the family, time with the kids, 9 PM start writing.  I really don’t anything but silence and my computer.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

The most challenging part of writing is finding time to do it.  The most rewarding is hearing from readers.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?SymphonyofLightandWinter_ByReneaMason-800x1200

My latest book is called Symphony of Light and Winter.  It’s the story of a Symphony fundraiser how overcame a tragic past only to have it come back to bit her, literally.   But it’s not a vampire novel.

Fundraiser Linden Hill has a knack for reading people. She always knows which conversations will put a prospect at ease, which drink will loosen a patron’s lips—or his wallet, and how cleavage will make a donor sweeten the deal. She’s even foreseen her dateless weekends four hundred and sixty-four times in a row.

But ten years after watching life drain from her former mentor’s and first love’s eyes, her skills for divining the predictable are lost. When Cyril returns, he’s still gorgeous, but this time he’s beyond human, far less dead, and pissed. His lack of memory drives him to desperate acts, and his turbulent re-acquaintance with Linden pulls her into his war with a creature hell-bent on his destruction. His group of six supernatural men share a tantalizing secret, but despite the hunger, it’s love that leads her to sacrifice everything to save him…

How did you come with the idea for this story?

It came to me.  I kept daydreaming about certain scene and eventually I put them all together.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

I have several things.  The first is a short story that is set for release by Etopia Press in November called the Impostor’s Kiss.  It’s a story about a supernatural man who is taught a lesson in love from an unlikely source.  They other project is Between the Waters – Symphony of Light book Two.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Jeanine Frost, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning, Kerrelyn Sparks, Larissa Ione, Lara Adrian. J.R. Ward

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Absolutely.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

My hero is begging my heroine to forgive him.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Everything.  I’m so tight for time.  I really miss having the time to read.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just thank you for being a most gracious host.

Excerpt

My amusement was interrupted by the absolute last thing I needed. Cyril. As if being in a room with a bunch of men who wanted me but didn’t know why and hated me for it wasn’t bad enough. In his black custom suit, he radiated power. He pulled at his cuff links as he stopped to survey the room.

Instead of trying to make my escape, I seized an opportunity to antagonize him. I was really starting to enjoy tormenting him.

“Good morning, Grim, it is nice of you to join us.”

“Grim. Ha! She called him Grim.” Rhys clapped his hands as he laughed.

Cyril didn’t acknowledge me or Rhys’s comment. He stood there for a very long time and looked around the room at each man. Nobody met his gaze but me. Cyril’s fists clenched at his side, jaw tight, and face furious.

“I warned all of you,” he addressed the room. He didn’t growl but rather wrapped his words with a subtle menace.

“Leave them alone. You know this is entirely your fault. If you would just think things through, you’d stop fucking everything up. I do have to say, of all your fuckups, this one is certainly the most impressive and entertaining from my perspective.” I winked at Overton, who managed to glare at me even with his head practically bowed. Why were they so fucking subservient to him?

The next thing I knew, I was yanked from my seat and hoisted onto the counter. Cyril grabbed my ass and pulled me to the edge, forced my legs open, and stepped between them. He wrapped his arms around me and placed his head against mine. It wasn’t his voice I heard but rather his mind. It felt like when I talked to myself but somehow I knew it was him. Strange, he had tone and inflection while communicating.

“You need to stop showing off in front of my men. Yes, I fucked up, but do you really want them to give in to their urges? Do you think you can fend them off? I could toss you to them and see how far you get. Is that what you want? Maybe I should let them have their way with you and pull up a chair to watch. I want you to think about something before you start to defy me. I’m the only one who can keep you safe. So it’s best you stop being a smart-ass for five seconds and listen to me. I’m going to do something that will piss you off. I’m warning you now it’s for your own good. You need to go along with it, no matter how angry you are at me. Don’t fight me. I’ll try to fix this but until then, I need to take a few precautions.”

I wasn’t sure how to respond. If I thought something, could he hear me? Was this two-way communication? I tried to push him away.

He tightened his grip and his voice was in my head again.

“Stop it! Let me remind you that I have a special connection with these men. Not only can I read their thoughts but I can’t block them. I don’t have to try to receive them. I know exactly what each person in this room, besides you of course, is thinking right now.”

So that’s what Overton meant when he said Cyril had ways of finding out.

“The thoughts that assaulted me when I entered this room would make a porn star blush; every one of their little fantasies featured you.”

I giggled.

The voice growled. “Don’t laugh. I won’t pretend I’m not jealous and angry. I am. But if you knew the things they were thinking you’d better understand why I need to do what I’m about to do. Do you see Dominic over there? Let’s just say his tastes run a little dark. Ever spend considerable time naked with your hands bound behind your back and a ball gag in your mouth? He’s picturing you that way, this very instant.”

I stiffened. That didn’t at all appeal to me.

“Thor seems to think that you’d enjoy all of us taking you at the same time.”

And he seemed so quiet and sweet.

“Sinclair wants to shove his cock down your throat until you choke, all the while telling you how it’s your entire fault. Rhys is thinking of how you would look sprawled out on the hood of his new sports car, and Overton…”

“NO!” I yelled.

It seemed like a violation of privacy with Overton. Unlike the others, I considered him a friend. I respected him too much.

“See, like it or not, I’m going to tell you what he’s thinking since it pisses me off the most. He thinks I’m going to fuck you right here on this counter, to lay my claim. Once he gets past the fantasies of watching me fuck you, which he finds exceptionally arousing…”

There was a momentary pause to the voice and when he started again, he was angry.

“He then knocks on your bedroom door after you run crying from the room. You invite him in and he holds you in his arms while you cry about how I violated and humiliated you. He wants to comfort you. He wants to be your savior. He wants to save you from me. But he knows he can’t.”

I felt the moment he left my head, because a sudden wave of dizziness came over me.

With no more words, he tilted his head and placed his lips against mine. I fought the rigidity that tried to seize my body. I knew it was best to give in. I wouldn’t fight him, but I knew every time he got close, I ran the risk of losing myself. I was still way too angry to just give up.

His lips danced with mine as he nestled himself between my open thighs.

Was Overton right? How far would he take it? If it did go too far, would I be able to stop him? He was such a fucking weakness for me I honestly didn’t think I would.

He was gentle and softly stroked my back as his tongue made love to my mouth. With one hand he cupped my ass and pulled me flush against him, and with the other he reached up, cupped my breast, and squeezed hard. His kiss grew frantic and I became caught up in the sensation, forgot where I was, and that I had an audience. He pushed me hard against his erection as he rubbed himself rhythmically against my core. “You are mine. You belong to me. Now say it! Let them all know who you belong to.”

Was he kidding? I hesitated.

He ran his fangs up the side of my neck in warning. He whispered in my ear, “Say it. You need to say it. Let them hear it come from your lips.” His hand drifted from my breast to the hem of my nightgown and pulled up one side so it rested in the crease where my leg met my hip.

Somehow the part of me that knew he was right surfaced, and the stubborn part of me took a momentary vacation. If I was his, they wouldn’t dare defy him. It would keep me safe.

His fingers toyed with the edge of my panties before tugging the fabric to the side to allow him to stroke my moist skin. He positioned himself at the juncture between my legs, allowing my naked flesh to gather friction from his cloth-covered cock.

“Yes, Cyril, I’m yours.”

With that, he struck. His fangs pierced my neck. The second of pain from his bite passed and the pleasure grew, igniting my veins with liquid desire. One arm tightened around me, pulling me harder against his cock. The other held my head while he sucked harder. Each pull he took was linked to the sensitive place between my legs. He ground his hips into mine and I moaned. The first wave of climax hit, tensing muscles and pushing my breath out in a rush. This was new. He could do this just by biting me?

I shook in his arms as he drank. Tremor after tremor seized me as he took his fill. I was so caught up in the sensation I only vaguely noticed the moans and growls that escaped from behind his teeth. With one final pull, and a thrust of his hips, he finished with a crushing embrace as he removed his teeth from my neck.

“Mine!” he roared. He enveloped me in his arms and held me close. He dipped his head to lick closed the small punctures on my throat.

I threw my head back. My breathing slowed as the cloud that had invaded my head receded.

Son of a bitch! I just came in front of everyone while sitting on the kitchen counter!

I was afraid to open my eyes but when I did, he stared back.

He nuzzled my cheek. “I’m sorry. I only want to protect you. If you’re mine, no one will dare touch you. I needed to lay my claim but I didn’t want to take anything you hadn’t already offered. Since you’ve replenished me before I thought this might be more acceptable.”

I was angrier with myself than him.

He caressed my arms and back. When I mustered enough courage to look around, we were the only
people in the kitchen, with the exception of Overton, who stood in the doorway holding the keys to my car.

Cyril softly lifted my chin so that my eyes would meet his. “Again, I’m sorry. I know I end up saying that far too often. But I need you to know, hearing those words from your lips…ah, hell. I can’t even explain it. Perhaps someday, you’ll utter them in truth.”

He placed his forehead against mine, took a deep breath. “Fuck. Maybe Overton is right. Maybe someone should save you from me.”

Interview & Tour Wide Giveaway with Lisa Kessler

Hi Lisa!!! Welcome back to Books-n-Kisses.

Lisa KesslerLisa, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I write dark paranormal romance and I love Disney, especially the Evil Queen from Snow White! I’m a mom of two grown kids, and I also sing professionally.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I always enjoyed writing, but it never occurred to me to try and get published until I had a palm reading in New Orleans. At the end of the reading she asked me if I was a writer. I told her I wrote but just for fun and she smiled and told me I was going to be a famous writer someday! *boggle* I haven’t achieved famous yet, but after I got home I published several short stories and six months later I had the first draft of Night Walker done. I’m SUPER grateful to her for giving me a nudge! J
What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I chomp gum like a cow when I’m writing, especially when I’m stuck or searching for the right word. My poor hubby! We share an office and I can imagine the gum popping is annoying, but he’s super sweet and doesn’t complain…
Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?  LisaKessler_HuntersMoon_1600RGB
Hunter’s Moon is the second book in my Moon Series and it continues right where Moonlight left off. This time it’s Aren and Sasha’s story we’re following. Each member of the Pack is going to get a book, and we learn more about Nero with each installment. It’s been super fun to write!
How did you come with the idea for this story?
It all started with a short story called Moonlight. I had the honor of meeting Ray Bradbury a couple of times and I took up his challenge to write 52 new short stories in 52 weeks. It was an amazing journey and during that time I couldn’t stop thinking about Lana and Adam, so while I kept writing the short stories, I also wrote Moonlight and then Hunter’s Moon.
Lana came to me when I was thinking I wanted to write a short story about a shifter, but not a werewolf. Then I figured cats can see in the dark. What if she was a jaguar shifter and what if they shifted during the new moon instead of the full moon? The rest is all in the book! JCan you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I’m finishing up Night Child the final book in my Night Series and I’ve also started writing Blood Moon, the third book in the Moon Series.
Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
Anne Rice. She inspired me to write and I really respect her. Way back in the day, I was involved in the Anne Rice newsgroups online (remember newsgroups? LOL) Anyway, we all met up in New Orleans and walked through the garden District just so we could look at her house! J  I’m pretty sure I’d geek out completely if I ever got to meet her…
What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Start writing short stories. You really get a chance to master the beginning-middle-end feel of a plot if you can start in shorter formats. Too often people jump into writing a novel and never finish. I compare it to running a marathon. You’d never just walk out and try to run 26 miles without running shorter distances first, right?  Writing is the same way. Start short and master your craft, then tackle something longer…
Can you share with us something off your bucket list.
Greenland. I’ve wanted to go there ever since we pulled down the world map in elementary school and I saw that huge island. I remember asking my teacher who lives there and she told me very few people ever go there and my kid-brain though “I’m going to be one of those few…” And I still feel that way. I even follow Hotel Arctic on facebook! LOL
What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I just started Omens by Kelley Armstrong and I’m loving it!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks so much for having me on your blog and thanks to all the readers out there who have supported me and my books. You all make this journey worthwhile!
Here are all my social media links too! J

Sasha’s future was stolen from her the moment she was bitten. Now she’s on the run from the Nero Organization that transformed her from a human detective into a shape shifting jaguar assassin.

When a rogue bounty hunter threatens her younger sister, she’ll be forced to fight, and with nowhere else to turn, Sasha will need to trust the one man who has every reason to want her dead.

Aren is a werewolf with a secret. While protecting his twin brother and Alpha of the Pack, he found his one mate for life. Sadly she’s also the jaguar assassin who tried to kill them both. Now Aren is struggling between his animal nature to love and protect her, and his loyalty to the Pack.

Interview & Giveaway with Jill Shalvis

Rumor Has It Tour Banner

We’d like to give Jill Shalvis a warm welcome to Books-n-Kisses today!  Jill is the bestselling author of over four dozen romance novels, including her upcoming sexy contemporary romance RUMOR HAS IT, book four in the Animal Magnetism series set in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho.  Jill is known for stories that are sexy, fun and full of heart.  The 4-time Rita nominee and 3-time National Readers Choice winner makes her home near Lake Tahoe.  Visit her website at www.jillshalvis.com for a complete book list and daily blog.

Q:  Can you tell our readers a little bit about the Animal Magnetism (Sunshine, Idaho) series, and where your inspiration came from?

A:  I’ve always wanted to write a series where I could incorporate cute animals.  Cute animals and sexy heroes together, who can resist that.  So I came up with a series about a set of wildly alpha brothers running an animal center in Sunshine, Idaho at the base of the Bitteroot Mountains.

Q:  What is your favorite thing about writing this series? The sexy men, the heroines, or the animals?

A:  All of the above, but okay, let me admit the truth – the combination of hot guys and adorable animals is pretty much irresistible for me.

Q:  What do you think makes romance readers and the romance community so strong?

A:  I think what makes the romance community so strong is that romance readers are awesome.  They’re loyal and dedicated and always so willing to help support our community by talking about the books and making it okay to read whatever you want, may that be straight contemporary, romantic suspense, erotica, whatever.  I love that.  As far as having a strong presence, that is an accidental cause of working alone most of the days out of the year.  Reaching out to romance readers and writers via social media is just a really great way to not always be alone.  J

Q:  Are contemporaries your favorite genre to read as well as to write? If so, can you give our readers some of your favorite recommendations?

A:  Yes, though I love to read everything, across all genres.  Heck, I’m happy reading the back of a cereal box.  But as for my recommendations in the contemporary genre, you can’t go wrong with Robyn Carr, Kristan Higgins, Carly Phillips, Susan Mallery, Lori Foster, Rachel Gibson…

Q:  Do you think reading romance makes us expect more from our own romantic partners? What effect do you think romance has on those that read it?

A:  We’re writing fiction.  Not nonfiction.  But made up stories, fantasies really.  I’m not writing “How To Have A Hot Romance.”  Or “How To Train Your Significant Other Into Being A Perfect Mate.”  I’m writing a fictional tale.  I think our readers are sharp, and are well aware and capable of knowing the difference between a pat Happily Ever After and real life.  If I can provide someone with a fantasy, a little escape from her reality, then I am considering it a job well done.

Q:  You write so many wonderful contemporaries, how do you keep each novel fresh and exciting?

A:  Keeping it fresh is a constant battle, and I struggle with that daily.  I just love writing, and this genre, and work hard to do the job so I can keep doing it and pleasing readers.  Also, I find that stalking neighbors and friends, and being extremely nosy about their personal lives and conflicts is very helpful.  J

Q:  What’s your advice for a first-time pet owner?

1. Read up on your pet, on the specific breed.

2. Be patient.

3. Be patient.

4. Be patient.  J

5. Oh, and if there’s training issues?  Chances are it’s you, so revisit #1.

Q:  The interactions shared between you and Alpha Man always entertain; what is a recent “He Said, She Said” between you and Alpha Man that we may not have heard yet?

Me:
What are you eating?

Him (mouth full):
Nothing

Me:
It smells like Oreos.

Him:

Me:
Are you … eating Oreos? I thought we were out of cookies!!

Him:
There’s only four left.

Me:
I need two.

Him:
I’ll give you one.

Me:
No! You can’t eat just one cookie!!! There’s a rule!!!

Him:
Show me the book where this rule lives.

Me:
I’LL WRITE YOU THE $%#!#$!@ book, give me a second cookie and no one gets hurt!

Him:
Is it possible that you need something to go with that cookie?

Me:
Milk?

Him:
I was thinking Midol…

Q:  Your friendship with Kristan Higgins and your friendly battle for “Man Wars” has become infamous.  Why do you two connect so well?

A: I think our chemistry translates well because it’s genuine.  You can’t fake a real friendship.   We connect on lots of levels, such as competing for readers (kiddin!), and because we’re both raising aliens—er, teenagers.

Q:  What’s next for Jill Shalvis?

A:  If you read RUMOR HAS IT, you may notice a new vet is working at Belle Haven. Dr. Wyatt Stone.  He and his two sisters, Darcy and Zoe,  are each going to get their own story next year. J

He’ll help unleash the new woman in her…

Special Ops soldier Griffin Reid doesn’t exactly have happy memories of growing up in Sunshine, Idaho. He’s only come back to recover from a war injury, and while he refuses to admit he’s in a weakened state, he finds comfort in the last person he’d expect.

Kate Evans teaches fourth grade science in Sunshine, the place she’s always called home. Dreaming of graduate school and a happily-ever-after, she’s desperate to break out of the monotony of Sunshine. Luckily, a certain sexy man has just come back into her life.

To Griffin, Kate as always been his little sister’s friend, but now he’s finding her to be so much more. As both attempt to forge their paths, they must decide if their passionate connection can turn into something lasting

REVIEW:

Griffin Reid is home again.  Not because he wants to be, but because he has no place else to go just yet.  Plus his baby sister is getting married and you don’t get on Holly’s bad side.  Griffin wants to make it through the wedding and get the heck out of dodge.  But fate has other plans for him.

Kate Evans has always put everyone’s needs before her own needs.   She takes care of her dad, her sister and little brother on a daily basis.  Not to mention all the things she does for the town, her classroom and her friends.  But when her childhood crush runs into her, Kate finally decides that there is something that she wants for herself.

Another awesome book by Jill.  Seriously can this girl write a bad story??  I don’t think so and I have not found one yet.    If you have not picked up any of Jill’s books never fear they all can pretty much be read as stand alones, but I would suggest reading them in order.  Just so you get a better idea of who everyone is.

Disclaimer:

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Interview with Maya Banks

Hi Maya, welcome back to Books-n-Kisses.

Maya: Thanks for having me!

MayaBanks02_bioFor those who don’t know you can you please share with us a little about yourself

Maya: I live in southeast Texas with my husband, three children and an assortment of pets. When I’m not writing (which is never!) I enjoy hunting and fishing with my family and we love to travel whenever we get the opportunity.

Can you please tell us about a little about Theirs to Keep?

Maya: The Tangled Hearts trilogy originally started out as ONE book. But I never could get it to come together in a way that made me happy. Because I was starting it too late in the storyline. And when I realized that, it all came together. I needed to go back and tell what was originally all backstory in that first and only planned book. So I went back in time to tell readers HOW Elle meets Cade and Merrick and show readers them falling in love so I could then progress with the rest of the story. So one book became a trilogy and I’m much happier with it now!

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Maya: I’m currently working on the SURRENDER trilogy, book 2 and after that I’ll begin work on KGI #9. I haven’t announced a title yet (or who the story is about) but I’ll be doing that soon!

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Maya: Yep!

What is your most interesting writing quirk?Theirs to Keep

Maya: I wouldn’t call it “interesting” but I’m frighteningly linear in my work. I can’t multitask and I can NOT work on more than one story at a time. Each story gets my absolute time, energy and brain power and I have to do them in order. No jumping ahead. I take it one book at a time and do the absolute best I can before starting the process all over again with the next book.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

Maya: I’ve already met the one author I would have loved to meet (Julie Garwood) so I’m good!

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Maya: Keep true to yourself and your vision of your story and don’t let others change it or interfere in your voice. Stick to your guns and your instincts and don’t give up.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Maya: I have no idea!

Who is your Celebrity crush? And what would you do if you ever meet them?

Maya: Either the Rock or Oded Fehr. I’d just grin. lol

When Cade Winslow and Merrick Sullivan find Elle hiding in the cabinet of a gun store, they know they can’t just walk away from the fragile woman with no memory of who she is or who tried to kill her. Merrick is training for the title shot in the heavyweight division as a mixed martial artist and can’t afford distractions, but neither can he turn his back on the woman who tugs at his heartstrings.

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

Cade has his own set of concerns when it comes to Elle, and it quickly becomes clear to the two men that for the first time in their friendship, a woman is coming between them. But what if they just kept her there? Between them. Where she belongs.
