Interview with Rebecca Royce

Hi Rebecca, Welcome back to Books-n-Kisses.  Thank you for making Books-n-Kisses a stop on your tour again. Thank you for taking time to sit down and talk about Embraced
Rebecca: Thank you so much for having me. I am so thrilled to be here today!
Q1) Tell us about Embraced
Rebecca: Embraced is the second book in my Conditioned story.  It picks up about a year after Eye Contact ended.  Here is a blurb:
Benedicte Lavelle is a single father raising two small daughters. When his neighbors put him in charge of handling the haunting that plagues their neighborhood, he has no choice but to use disreputable means in order to bring in a Conditioned ghost hunter to help with their problem. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to the young woman who arrives at his house in chains. He doesn’t expect to have his entire life thrown into upheaval when she is snatched away.

Conditioned prisoner Seven-Two-Four has never had a name. She cannot read, and is scheduled to die as soon as she is returned to the Institution. The Conditioned are not considered human, but Seven can see ghost energy and she can love Ben like no one ever has before.

When fate takes Seven from Ben’s arms, can he move on and find a new purpose in life or will he be forever trapped by the need to rescue those like his lost love?

Q2) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Rebecca: I’m not sure. I can never really answer this question. I’m not certain where my ideas come from. I’m just grateful they come.
Q3) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Rebecca: Since I was in fourth grade. I tried some other things but it’s really been what I’ve wanted for a long time.
Q4) What is your most interesting writing quirk?
Rebecca: Every one of my books starts out with 13 pages per chapter. This alters with editing but that’s how long each chapter is when I first write them.
Q5) Tell us 5 fun facts about yourself
Rebecca:  Well. I’m really boring but lets see what I can come up with.
 I love Broadway Shows.
I love red wine and cheese
I have three small boys who keep me running all the time
I’m terrible about checking my phone messages. I miss things. It’s really bad.
I love the nutcracker ballet.
Q6) What is your favorite part of writing?
Rebecca: That moment when the plot ‘clicks’ and suddenly I get it.
Q7) Worst piece of advice you ever received about becoming an author?
Rebecca:  People always know better than you do about your own writing. Or they think they do. Don’t listen. Write what you feel. A good story finds an audience.
Q8) If you had a super power what would it be and why?
Rebecca: I would love to be able to become invisible.
Q9) What is your current work in progress?
Rebecca: I am writing the next Young Adult book in my Warrior series.
Q10) Anything else you would like to add?
Rebecca:  I’m just so glad to have been here today and to have had a chance to tell you about my book!
Books-n-Kisses: Rebecca, again thank you so very much for stopping by Books-n-Kisses.  We always enjoy having you on the blog.

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework.  I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.
I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend.  We live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.
I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing.  I’ve been told I’m a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you’ll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.
In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
I’d love to hear from you!
Embraced Excerpt:
“Does it take this much out of you every time you do it?”
“No.” She raised a dainty hand to rub at her eyes. “I was already tired. I shouldn’t have attempted it. I wanted to give you the services you’re entitled to. I don’t want to fail at this job. Not right before my death.”
His stomach turned at the thought. She didn’t know how old she was, but in his mind she couldn’t be more than thirty, and maybe she was even younger.
“I don’t want you doing anything that might cause you pain. I’m responsible for your welfare.”
She nodded, her blue eyes sad as they looked at him. “Okay, sir.”
“Ben. Please call me Ben.”
“I can’t do that.”
He rubbed her hair out of her eyes. “You can. What can I get you? Water? Food?”
“I know it’s very early but I really need some sleep. I’d rather save my meal for tomorrow, if that’s okay?”
His heart broke every time she spoke about her expectations. “Seven, listen to me. While you’re here I’m going to feed you three meals a day. Maybe a snack too, if you want one. I’m in charge, right? You have to do what I tell you, and I’m informing you that despite what Madame says, you will eat a lot here.”
The smallest smile formed on her lips. “Really? I don’t want you to get into trouble.”
He helped her sit up, feeling sorry he had to let her go at all. She was a young woman—and he didn’t care who disagreed, she was, in fact a woman and not an it—and she was in his home. Ben was responsible for her well-being. God help anyone who told him how he was going to care for someone who lived within his walls. No one would abuse her here.
“I won’t get into trouble. I’m a lawyer. You can trust me to know what I can do within the law.” He stood up. “You’re welcome to go to bed. I’d also be glad to feed you.”
“Where should I sleep?” She looked down on the floor and he followed her gaze. Suddenly, he understood what she thought.
“Not on the floor. No way.” He extended his hand and was relieved when she took it. “We have beds in this house. You’ll use one.”
“Thank you.”
The simplicity of her gratefulness made him stop in his tracks. Who might this woman have been if she’d not been Conditioned?

Interview & Giveaway with Rebecca Zanetti

Books-n-Kisses is so excited to have the
wonderful Rebecca Zanetti on the blog today.

BIO:  Rebecca Zanetti is a college professor by day and romance author by night.  Currently she’s busy writing the sexy Dark Protector Series from Kensington Brava, which has received excellent reviews.  Publisher’s Weekly declared FATED a ‘recommended spring read,’ and CLAIMED to be a thriller with “true strengths: sizzling sex scenes and a memorable cast.”   To find Rebecca on the web, drop by her website: http://rebeccazanetti.com/

Books-N-Kisses:  HI Rebecca, How are you today?  Can I get you anything before we get started?  Coffee, Tea, Soda, food?

Rebecca: Well, it’s morning here, so how about coffee?  I try to limit myself to one coffee and one soda (diet coke) a day and drink plenty of water.  One day my New Year’s resolution will be to give up diet coke…but not today!

Books-N-Kisses:  I have to say it was so great to meet you up at the Emerald City Writers Conference in October.  I am so excited to share you with my followers.  Shall we get started?
Rebecca: It was so wonderful to meet you, too.  That was my first Emerald City Writers Conference, and I loved it.  Hope to see you there next year!  So, yeah, let’s get started.

Q1) Let’s start by learning a little more about you.  Please tell my followers who is the famous person you interned for in college!!  I think this is pretty awesome!!
Rebecca: I interned with President Reagan in California.  It was after he was President, but he still gave 3-5 speeches a week.  Our offices were in the penthouse of the Fox Plaza Building (the building that pretty much gets blown up in Die Hard.)  I saw him every day, and he was hilarious.  Told great jokes.  Nancy Regan’s offices were just down the hall, so we saw her a lot, too.  They really seemed happy together.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Rebecca:  Sure.  I’ve always wanted to tell stories.  But there have been many things I wanted to do, like practice law, study art, travel a bit.  So far…so good.  Now that the writing bug has caught me, I plan to keep at it.

Q3) Who do you feel has influenced your writing style?
Rebecca:  Well, the first romance I ever read was a MacGregor story by Nora Roberts, and I was hooked on romance forever.  So, as cliché as it sounds, Nora Roberts.  But, I also think that practicing law as a trial attorney has really influenced my style.  A good book is like a good trial – fast paced, full of interesting characters, and the goal is a good result.  (A happy ending, if you will).  J

Q4) Are you a plotter or panster?
Rebecca:  Panster.  I discover as I go, just like a reader does.  I’ve tried to plot, usually get to the second paragraph, and then have to go write just to see what happens.

Q5) Tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Rebecca: I don’t think I have a typical writing day, though I do write every day.  Sometimes it’s at night, after work, basketball practice for the kids, homework, dinner, etc.   On Fridays I try to write all day because I don’t teach at the college on Fridays.  I’ve been known to sketch out a scene during half-time of my son’s football game.

Let’s talk about your Dark Protector Series

Q6) Fated is book one in your Dark Protector Series. Tell us a little more about this book.
Rebecca:  Fated features Talen Kayrs, the strategic leader of the vampire people, and his mate, Cara Paulsen, a single mother and plant physiologist.  The bad vampires (Kurjans) want Cara’s daughter, Janie, who’s the key to the entire series.  Talen is an Alpha, without question, and Cara’s scientific mind isn’t quite sure what to do with him.  Especially after he marks her for all time.

Q7) How did you come up with the idea for this series?
Rebecca:  When I start something new, I write a scene for a story and then everything unfolds from there.  So for Fated, I wrote a scene just after Talen had kidnapped Cara and they were looking at each other in a private jet.  He turned out to be a vampire, and the entire series unfolded from there.  Plus, I wrote the vampires the way I’d want them to be.  Hot blooded, dangerous, and not afraid of the sun.  The bad guys are afraid of the sun.  So, in order to do this, I had to delve into science and make vampires just another different species on earth – genetically.

Q8) Claimed is book two, please tell us more. And I just have to I love the covers of your books.
Rebecca:   Thanks!  I love the covers, too.  The graphic arts department at Kensington has very talented people.  It’s always a huge, pleasant surprise when I get a new cover.  Claimed is about Dage Kayrs, who’s the king of the vampires, and his mate, Emma Paulsen, a brilliant geneticist who has NO time to deal with an Alpha-male of a vampire.

Q9) Up next I see you have a Novella coming out April 1, 2012 called Tempted (book 2.5).  Can you share a little about Max & Sarah?
Rebecca:  I had a lot of fun writing about Max and Sarah.  Max is a huge, quiet, dangerous type of a guy—a great bodyguard for little Janie.  Sarah was a teacher who ended up in an insane asylum after seeing a Kurjan kill somebody.  There’s a fun courtroom scene to prove her sanity toward the end…with a lot of romance, sensuality, and action as well.

Q10) Hunted (book 3) is scheduled for release on April 24, 2012. What can expect from Connlan & Moira’s book?
Rebecca:  Moira is the first heroine in the series who isn’t human.  Not only is she a witch, she’s THE witch.  The seventh sister of a seventh sister—they use quantum physics for witchcraft.  Connlan Kayrs is the ultimate soldier for the Realm.  There’s a lot of action, some wild sex, and some surprisingly tender moments.   The two accidentally mated a century ago, and Conn gave Moira time and space to grow as a witch.  Time is up.

Q11) I am super excited to see on your blog that you have book 4 & 5 listed as coming soon. Do you see the series going beyond book 6?
Rebecca: Yep.  There will be between 7 and 9 books.  Two of those may be novellas, so there would be 7 books and 2 novellas – or just 9 complete novels, depending on what Kensington wants.  The last book is Janie and Zane’s book—and it wraps up the entire series, also answering why Janie is so darn important to everyone.  I won’t go past that for this series – at some point, it has to wrap up.  Of course…there are several spinoffs possible…

Q12) Do you ever see yourself writing in a different genre?
Rebecca: Sure.  I have a romantic suspense series my agent will be sending out early next year.  I also have an upbeat women’s fiction series (formerly called ‘chick lit’), but I haven’t had time to work on it.  Maybe toward the end of next year?

Q13) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Rebecca: Ohhhh.  This is such a tough question!  I love so many authors.  Nora Roberts, Stephen King, Dean Kootnz, Cynthia Eden, J.R. Ward, Janet Evonovich, Sayde Grace, Erin Kellison…and I could just keep going!

Q14) I love to know what is in your to read pile that you are dying to get to?
Rebecca: Well, I have a book due at Kensington February 1st, and then the next book due May 1st, so I’m struggling to find time to read.  (I do love to read, though.)  There’s actually a pile on the table behind me:  Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evonovich, Angel of Darkness by Cynthia Eden, New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb and Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  There are more around here somewhere.  J

Q15) Is there anything else you would like to add?
Rebecca:  You know, as my first year as a published author comes to an end, I’d like to thank everyone for their support.  From the readers to other authors to wonderful people like you who take time to learn about our worlds, I really appreciate it.  This is the frosting.  J

Books-n-Kisses:  Rebecca, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so very very much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to sit down with me and chat.  I am looking forward to the next time we meet up.  Also so looking forward to Hunted.
Rebecca:  You bet!  Let’s plan to meet up for coffee in Seattle next year.  Or diet coke, because there’s no way I will have given it up yet.  Thanks again and everyone have a truly awesome 2012!

Interview with JL Oiler

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome JL Oiler to the blog today.  We are looking forward to learning a little more about JL and her book Four Beneath the Mistletoe.
JL: Thanks for having me it is truly an honor.

Q1) Please tell us a little about yourself
JL: Certainly, I live in the mountains of West Virginia with my family and a very spoiled boxer. When not writing I love to read and spend time outdoors. Besides being an author, I work as a teacher and hold a masters degree from BSU.

Q2)  Tell us a typical writing day for you
JL: I get home from work and after dinner head to my place. I write in one spot, the worn corner of my living room loveseat. After I fire up the computer and I reread anything I recently wrote I then attempt to rouse my muse from some words. At least once during my hour or two, which I dedicate to writing, my son will come in with an end of the world question (“Mom what channel is Scooby doo on?”” and I am force to take a momentary break to save the world. Ater which I return to my spot and begin the process anew.

Q3) Have you always wanted to be an author or what made you become an author?
JL: My father was a reader and I learned from him the freedom of ideas and dreams that come from a great book. In my youth, I read book after book and decided I wanted to be the one deciding where my stories went.

Q4) Tell us a little about your book Four Beneath the Mistletoe:
JL: Four Beneath the Mistletoe is a Holiday Sci-Fi romance where readers get to meet Federation Officer Sara Yeager who is disenchanted with her duties and longs for fulfillment of a different sort. Three magnificent aliens come to the station to gather insight into some of the more common traditions and with a sprig of mistletoe offer a cosmic Christmas surprise and a future she never imagined.

Q5) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
JL: I was actually looking through a book with my son about different holidays and traditions that surround each and wondered what someone who had no idea about any of them would view such things. That was the base line and the rest just sort of fell into place.

Q6)  What is your current work in progress?
JL: I am finishing up a Cowboy ménage story and another paranormal shape shifter piece.

Q7) Who are some of your favorite authors?
JL: Krelsey Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan,

Q8) Have to ask because I am nosey.  That is in your to be read pile that you are dying to read next?
JL: The Guardian by Kenyon, and Three For Keeps by Lila Munro

Q9) Is there anything else you would to add?
JL: It has truly been an honor to be here with you and readers can see more of what’s going on in my world on my web site www.joiler.weebly.com please drop by and let me know what you think!

Books-n-Kisses: JL, thank you for taking the time to stop by the blog today to chat about yourself and your books
JL: Thank You so much for having me here and I hope all the readers enjoy my visit as much as I did!

Four Beneath the Mistletoe Excerpt:
“The guy in the big red suit is Santa Claus,” Sara Jean informed them as one of the serving staff brought around cups of some frothy sweet crème for them to enjoy.
“We have heard of your Saint Nicolas. He travels with flying animals and visits all the children in a single night,” Pharos said as he took the drink offered him and made a face at the taste. Sara laughed aloud before covering her mouth and apologizing.
“An apology is not needed. Your laughter is every bit as sweet to our ears as the children’s below.” Azek’s words brought a bright flush to her face, making her even more luminously beautiful then before, something he thought impossible.
“How could one man possibly be so many places so quickly? It is illogical,” Turku said, sipping his own cup.
“It’s all just part of the magic; on Christmas all things are possible,” Sara Jean replied with a twinkle in her eyes.
As they stood to depart this area, the scene made Azek wonder what magic it would take to put the sexy woman in their bed.
“Perhaps you will show use more of your human traditions tomorrow evening, once I have completed my meetings with the commander?” Azek asked her, leaning forward to run his fingers across the bare skin of Sara Jean’s arm.
“We’ll all go to the Holograph deck around six tomorrow evening, then.” She swallowed hard but did not move away from his touch. “I thought I might show you a few different celebrations taking place around the station before we parted ways.”
“If you wish.” Azek licked his lower lip, thoughts of tasting her dancing in his head.
Sara Jean’s heart pounded so loudly in her ears she felt certain everyone in the room could hear the rapid thumping. The intensity of Azek’s gaze coupled with the sensuality of his touch put her in a state of meltdown. His powerful omegas were looking at her with a mirror of the same intensity. At this rate, Sara thought she might need to stop somewhere on the way back to her quarters later this evening and wring out her undies. One thing was for certain: BOB, her battery-operated boyfriend, would be paying her a social visit tonight.
After a quick trip down two floors to deck three, Sara Jean led the group into yet another crowded common room. This one contained several large fans angled upward to cre
ate a steady wind current in which the room’s occupants flew numerous, colorful kites.
“This is all part of the Hindu Makara Sankranti, celebrating the movement of the sun during the winter solstice. Traditionally it was held around January 14th, but the federation felt it was in the best interest to combine all the various religious holidays into a single timeframe lasting about a week. I think they might have been worried about constant disruptions to the normal function of the stations,” Sara told her guests as they watched the vibrant kites dance above them.
“These are very beautiful,” Pharos said appreciatively as the group turned to depart. “Nearly as lovely as our hostess.”
A heated blush spread across Sara’s face and she stumbled a moment to respond. “Th-Thank You.”

Interview with Lila Munro

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Lila Munro to the blog today.  We are looking forward to learning a little more about Lila and her book Three for Keeps.
Lila: Thanks so much for having me over today. I’ve been looking forward to being here and sharing my new release with your readers. I love to chat, so don’t be shy readers, chat away.

Q1) Please tell us a little about yourself
Lila: I’m a forty-something empty-nester military wife residing on the coast of North Carolina with my very own hero and our two doggies. I love bubble baths, museums, the beach, and I am a certified Kindle addict.

Q2)  Tell us a typical writing day for you
Lila: Short answer, there are no typical days. J My other job as VP of Business Affairs at Rebel Ink Press usually takes up my morning hours then once I’m caught up there, I’m transported into my fantasy world where Doms, Mistresses, Marines and damsels in distress run amok. My muses are pretty fickle. Depending on their moods that day dictates what I work on and for how long. Now I was asked recently if I have any strange rituals—the answer is a resounding yes. Well, some may not find it strange. I have a habit of going to the think tank—ie bubble bath—whenever I’m struggling with a scene. Time of day is no deciding factor and I’ve been known to sit in the blessed thing more than once a day if need be.

Q3) Have you always wanted to be an author or what made you become an author?
Lila: I’ve always known that on some level from the time I could say the ABC’s and I memorized The Little Red Hen. At that point I couldn’t write down stories, but I was really good at making them up. I had a very vivid imagination. When I was in sixth grade we traded teachers once a day in our teeny country school (I graduated in a class of fifty-two) and I was introduced to the world of creative writing by Mr. Trokey. I was very much taken in when he told me I had a knack for carrying a story line and that someday he knew he’d get the first signed copy of a book I’d written. I really doubt he thought that book would come in the form of an erotic romance. From there I tinkered with writing off and on until my muses went dormant when the children arrived. Apparently crying, screaming babies tend to terrify muses and they flee for the hills at the sound. Then one day I looked up and figured out I had turned forty and my dream was yet to be realized. It was at that point I dusted off the old notebook, found an idea or two and turned them into The Executive Officer’s Wife.

Q4) Tell us a little about your book Three for Keeps:
Lila: My latest book debuted November 17 from Rebel Ink Press, Three for Keeps. It’s an erotic contemporary romance encompassing ménage and BDSM. It’s a story about a woman named Zoey who is a product of the social services system and the three men she’s known from childhood, whom she’s in love with. They have quite the struggle to find harmony.
Q5) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Lila: Here’s a bit of Lila trivia. I have a degree in sociology and I simply love figuring out sub-cultures. Polyamory fascinates me. And to be honest, once Zoey popped up and started chatting I had no choice but to tell her story.

Q6)  What is your current work in progress?
Lila: I’m finishing up books three from two different series: A Slower Lower Leap and Assumed Identity. I’ll also be working with my writing partners after the first of the year on the third installment in the Force Recon series. I’ve also got a new series in the works for 2012, The Sergeants of Echo Co. I’m very excited about that one as it’s taking me back to my first love, military romance.

Q7) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Lila: I get asked that a lot and to be honest the answer is I have many. My tastes are all over the place. For a short list we’ll go with this: Maya Banks, Cherise Sinclair, Loralei James and Julianne MacLean for my historical fix.

Q8) Have to ask because I am nosey.  That is in your to be read pile that you are dying to read next?
Lila: I have several Tymber Dalton reads lined up. Squeee! Yes, that came with a bit of jumping up and down. J I also have lined up some Eden Bradley, KA Mitchell and I’m a Kitty Thomas slut. Love, love, love her style and she really explores the darker side of kink unlike anyone else I’ve discovered yet.

Books-n-Kisses: Lila, thank you for taking the time to stop by the blog today to chat about yourself and your books. I am looking forward to reading Three for Keeps.
Lila: Thanks again for having me over, and thanks to all the readers that came out today. I hope you enjoy reading Three for Keeps as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Zoey Matthews is in love. She’s been in love since the day she was dropped off by a social worker at yet another foster home on a back country road miles from nowhere, Missouri. At age ten, she met the men of her dreams. Over the course of sixteen years, Dane Cardwell, Jack Devereux and Ryan Wilkins fell in love with her, too. They’ve each told her they love her, they’ve shown her and each man has gone so far as to ask her to marry him. But what they don’t know is Zoey loves them all.

Her game of kiss and not tell all comes crashing down around her the night of her graduation from veterinary school and Zoey runs for the mountains. Of Colorado. Hoping to outrun her obsession with three men and forget them all together, she stays gone for ten years. But the wound has never healed. In fact, it’s done nothing but fester. Needing to clear the air, Zoey agrees to spend a few days back home with the boys never imagining it would turn into a week filled with comparison sex as Dane, Jack and Ryan each try to get Zoey to choose between them and their varied tastes.

When she finally tells the truth, a truth only one of them has known all along, Zoey fears the foursome will never be able to make a sharing relationship work. After all, aren’t there just too many personalities and desires to sort through? Add in the kink factor and things get really complicated. Zoey’s not convinced the truth has any merit, but there’s one thing she knows for sure…this time she’s playing for keeps.

Interview with Rebecca Royce

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Rebecca Royce to the blog today.  We are looking forward to learning a little more about Rebecca and her book I’ll Be Mated by Christmas
Rebecca:  Hi, I am so excited to be here today. Thank you so much for having me.

Q1) Rebecca, for my followers that didn’t meet you last time you were here please tell us a little about yourself
Rebecca: Well, I am really pretty dull. I am married with 3 small children and I write paranormal romance novels and sometimes the occasional science fiction and contemporary novel as well.  I also love Broadway shows and movies.

Q2)  Tell us a typical writing day for you
Rebecca: I wake up, take the kids where they have to go, do some errands then I come home and write until it is time to go pick up one of the kids again. After that, I basically write in between everything else I have going on. I never have a whole chunk of time to write. It’s just not how my world works right now.

Q3) Have you always wanted to be an author or what made you become an author?
Rebecca: I’ve always had these stories inside of me that I wanted to tell so I guess I’ve always wanted to be an author.  I wrote my first book in the fourth grade.

Q4) Tell us a little about your book I’ll Be Mated for Christmas
Rebecca:  It is part of the Decadent Publishing One Night Stand series. The series is a collection of short stories (no more than 3-4 chapters at most) that shows how one night with a perfect match can change the life of the characters forever.
Here is a blurb:
Bethany Johnson grew up one of the only humans in a pack of werewolves. She didn’t have an easy time and her self-confidence was almost non-existent. Finally, after some serious psychotherapy and the help of weight-loss surgery, she is feeling like the Bethany she has always wanted to be. But now she has to say goodbye to the werewolves in her life. Out with the old and in with the new this year…
Luke Denarius is the new Alpha of the Delta pack. He’s never met Bethany but the second he scents her he knows she is his. No way is she going off to Italy for adventure and hot sex with other men.
With the help of Madame Eve these two will find that a mating is in the works for Christmas.

Q5) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Rebecca: When the idea of doing a collection of holiday stories that were 1NS books, my mind just whirled with ideas. This was what I came up with.

Q7) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Rebecca: I am obsessed with everything Nalini Singh, Karina Cooper, and Alyssa Day write.

Rebecca: Next up, I have a book called “Across the Universe” to read. I am so excited

Q9) Is there anything else you would to add?
Rebecca: Thank you so much for having me here. I love stopping by.  I hope you’ll check out I’ll Be Mated For Christmas and the whole 1NS series.

Books-n-Kisses: Rebecca, thank you for taking the time to stop by the blog today to chat about yourself and your books.
Rebecca: Thank you, thank you for having me here!

Interview with Tara Chevrestt….Giveaway of A Facebook Affair

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Tara Chevrestt to our website today.

Tara: Thrilled to be here.

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself

Tara: Well, first of all, like the heroine of A Facebook Affair, I’m (hearing impaired) deaf. I prefer to say deaf even though I have a enough hearing left to use a huge hearing aid in one ear because “impaired” implies I need fixing and I don’t feel I do. J I’m a book reviewer, a dog mom, a wife, and an aircraft mechanic. And in the last year, I became an author as well.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?

Tara: Yes. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I never said I wanted to be an author, but the idea was always in the back of my mind. I say this because I loved writing. I loved every essay assignment that came my way and I loved it when we had to write stories and make books with illustrations. (I had to stick to horse stories when the tale required illustrating, however, as that was all I could draw, horses and trees. LOL)

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

Tara: That’s a tough one because I love so many writers. I have been especially inspired by Christina Courtenay (Trade Winds, The Scarlet Kimono). I read her work and liked it so much I contacted her and we became friends and I often bounce my ideas off her and get inspiration and encouragement to continue my pursuits from her. I am also a huge fan of Elizabeth Chadwick, Victoria Hislop, Jodi Compton, and Cecilia Samartin. I hope to write like them one day.

Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.

Tara: I work full time so I have to cram my writing in when I can, usually on weekends. I have learned not to dare cook anything while writing, however, as I get so into my story that I tend to burn whatever it is. A typical writing day for me is: I waste the first half of the day pretending to be writing but really, I’m browsing goodreads. I finally start writing in the late afternoon and once I get going, before I realize it, the entire house is dark around me. Time just flies.

Q5) Let’s talk about your new book A Facebook Affair.  Can you tell us a little about it

Tara: It’s about a hard of hearing woman who is coping with the loss of her mother and is feeling really lonely. She joins Facebook to social network and make friends and looks up a boy she knew from long ago. They begin a messaging romance.. but there are some obstacles that could prevent their relationship from ever becoming more than a Facebook affair.

Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?

Tara: I was bored one night and began searching for old friends on Facebook as I had recently joined the website. I actually found a boy I remembered from school and he is drop dead gorgeous now. I’m happily married, but I still appreciate looking at gorgeous men. LOL This book is entirely fiction, but the idea came to my head and I sat down and began writing.

Q7) What is up next for you?

Tara: My historical YA novel, Ride for Rights, is due out in February of 2012 so I will most likely be pretty busy with that. Also have a sequel to that on the back burner.

Q8) What is the best piece of advice you would give to a give to someone who is thinking of becoming an author?

Tara: Write about what you love. If you don’t love what you are writing, your readers aren’t going to love what they are reading.

Q9) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?

Tara: As I answer this question, I’m really excited about Victoria Hislop’s The Thread. It isn’t available in the States yet though.

Q10) Is there anything else you would like to add?

Tara: I hope everyone who reads A Facebook Affair, whether they enjoy the romance aspect of it or not, learns something from it and walks away with a greater understanding of what hard of hearing people have to deal with on an everyday basis. And parents, please, teach your kids about the harmful effects of bullying in school.

Books-n-Kisses: Tara, again thank you so very much for making Books-n-Kisses a stop on your book tour.  I have enjoyed learning more about you and your book.  I look forward to reading and see what you come up with next.

Tara: Thank you and I sincerely hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season.

Interview with Melinda Leigh

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Melinda Leigh to the blog today. We are going to be talking about her new book She Can Run.

Melinda: First of all, thanks to Books-n-Kisses for hosting a stop on my blog tour.  She Can Run is my debut romantic suspense, and I’m thrilled to celebrate its release with you.

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Melinda: I’m a fully recovered banker and stay-at-home mom turned writer.  I love kids and dogs, so my house is usually chaotic. Housekeeping isn’t my forte.  When I’m not taxiing kids to the mall and guitar lessons, I write and practice martial arts.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Melinda:  Yes, but writing is something I didn’t have time for until my kids went to school.  Once I started, I was hooked.  The process is challenging, fascinating, frustrating, and immensely rewarding all at the same time.

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Melinda:  I’ve always been drawn to murder, mystery, and mayhem in fiction. When other girls were reading Judy Blume, I was working my through my mom’s collection of Agatha Christie mysteries.  In high school, I discovered I preferred Stephen King to classic literature.  Lately, I’ve been reading Jim Butcher and Lisa Gardner.

Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Melinda:  I try to write while the kids are at school.  I like quiet when I work.  I don’t listen to music.  The TV is off.  If I could only get my dogs to stop barking… Sometimes I work in the evenings and/or early weekend mornings. There are a lot of things writers have to do besides write.

Q5) Can you tell us a little about you book She Can Run?
Melinda: The heroine is a young widow with two children. Beth makes the terrible mistake of marrying a powerful politician who isn’t what he seems. She accidentally learns a secret about her husband, and he tries to kill her to keep it. With luck, she escapes with her kids.  Months later, under a false identity, she takes a job as caretaker on a secluded estate. Unfortunately, the elderly man who hired her dies, leaving the estate to his nephew, a former homicide detective.  Jack isn’t buying Beth’s story, but his conscience won’t let him send her away. Instead, he begins to investigate. Her secrets, his suspicions, and their desire clash when a killer strikes nearby.

Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Melinda:  My stories evolve slowly.  News headlines often give me ideas.  I find that rooting characters in reality is a great way to make their stories plausible. I wanted to write an emotionally charged story, so I started by putting a character into a terrible situation. What could be worse than a threat to one’s children?  It’s the parent’s fault they’re in danger!   Once I established Beth’s situation, I moved forward into developing a worthy hero and villains. The plot built into its final complexity over five rewrites. That’s not a typo.

Q7) What is up next for you?
Melinda: I’m currently working on a story that is loosely connected to SHE CAN RUN through secondary characters.  The book takes place in the same small town and focuses on the local police chief and a disturbing stalker case.

Q8) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
Melinda: The Night Eternal by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo Del Toro, It’s the third book in The Strain horror trilogy. These aren’t poor, misunderstood vampires or sexy immortals. They’re pure evil, and they have a plan to take over the world.  There were lots of sleep-with-the-light-on moments in the first two books. I love monsters!

Q9) Is there anything else you would like to add?
Melinda:  Readers can find more information about me and my book at my website, melindaleighauthor.comI love to hear from readers. So, please connect with me on Facebook & Twitter

Books-n-Kisses: Melinda, again thank you so very much for making Books-n-Kisses a stop on your book tour.  I have enjoyed learning more about you and your book.  I look forward to reading and see what you come up with next.
Melinda: Thanks so much for having on the blog.

They eventually make their way to a secluded estate in the Pennsylvania countryside, where Beth dares to hope she has found a safe place at last…

Interview with Robin Perini

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Robin Perini to the blog today. We are going to be talking about her new book In Her Sights
Robin: Thanks so much for inviting me to be here. I’m thrilled. It’s so exciting because this is my debut novel, and this is my very first blog tour. Please be gentle…

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Robin: I lost my heart to storytelling when I was a child, sitting at the knee of my great-aunt. She mesmerized me with her tales of ‘The Little Match Girl’ and ‘How the Tiger Got its Tail.’ She wrenched my heart, made me laugh and cry. She fed my love of reading and learning. Perhaps it was inevitable that I followed in her footsteps.
I dreamed of others reading my stories and experienced a rainbow of emotions: fear, joy, love, pity, anguish, forgiveness, hope. Somehow my dream came true this year, but it wasn’t easy. I wrote. I studied. In fact, some might know me because of the writing workshops that I’ve given all across the country – on my own or with award-winning author Laura Baker in our standing-room-only workshop, Discovering Story Magic.
In 2011, I sold my first book to Amazon’s Montlake Romance. I’d finally harnessed my secret inner commando and created stories I loved that resonated with people other than my friends and family who love me. Books of suspense and peril. Of family relationships and poignant emotions. Books that bring to life my motto: when danger and romance collide, no heart is safe.
Within months I sold three more novels to Harlequin Intrigue. I’m still floating on the ceiling. My great-aunt has long since passed away, but I look up and smile sometimes. My inner fire for storytelling was her gift to me. I pray I do her justice.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Robin: For me, there is no ‘want.’ There just is. I am a storyteller. There was a time where I stopped writing for a few months. It was so hard. I’d just received several rejections letters. I asked myself what I was doing. Then I started dreaming the stories again, and I realized that whether I wanted to be or not, I am a storyteller.

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Robin: I have so many authors who have brought me incredible joy since I was a child. In fact, on my website (http://www.robinperini.com) I have included a page listing many of my all-time favorite books and authors.
Those books typically evoke deep emotions within me. They are my window into pain, joy, insight, and wisdom. One of my favorite authors is Sharon Sala. This New York Times Bestselling Author has written novels that twist my heart through a painful journey, but end in hope. Her ability to touch my soul makes me go back to her stories again and again. That’s what I hope to do in my stories.
Even more than that, Sharon Sala is a mentor to me. She read In Her Sights several years ago. She believed in me and my book at a time when it was hard to believe in myself. I’m not sure I would be here today without her encouragement. She is an amazing writer, of course, but even a more amazing person.
I’d like to be her when I grow up.

Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Robin:  Okay, I must confess, I’m a bit of a nut. Just ask my friends and family. I’ve tried a million different ways to write over the years, and for now, this works for me. First, I should say that I have a day job, so I work writing around paying the mortgage, and of course the rest of my life—family, exercise, chores, and occasionally a little fun. 🙂
I’m actually one of those irritating morning people. I write from 5:30 am – 7:00 am weekdays. Mostly to get the adrenaline pumping because I thrive on deadlines—and being panicked! With only an hour and a half, I have to make the most of every second. Also, I write in ‘sprints’. 20 minutes of writing and a 10 minute break. This idea was introduced to me by fellow writer, Angi Morgan (www.angimorgan.com) and it really works for me. If nothing else my body doesn’t go numb from sitting in the chair.
On Saturday, I write for about 5 hours in the morning, and on Sunday, after church, I write for three hours.
I usually write new material on those shorter stretches on the weekdays and revise on the weekends. As for promotion—like working on my website, blogs, designing romance trading cards, Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads, I work on those in the evenings as needed—or as the deadlines loom.

Q5) Can you tell us a little about you book In Her Sights?
Robin: This is my debut novel, so it’s a real dream come true for me to even be here. For a long time, I had to wonder if it would happen. Jazz’s story has been with me a long time, and while I’ve written other manuscripts since she first came to life in my heart, this has always been a story I really wanted to tell. I’m so thankful that Jazz found a home at Montlake Romance.
Jasmine “Jazz” Parker is the only female sniper on Jefferson County’s SWAT team. Always at the ready with calm nerves and steady hands, she never misses a shot. Strong, dedicated, and dependable, Jazz has committed her life to defending the helpless by exacting swift and uncompromising justice, all the while harboring dark, devastating secrets from her past. Secrets she thought she’d buried for good as a teenager.
To keep her past hidden, Jazz keeps a low profile and avoids getting too close to anyone, including the one man she thought she could love—ex-Army Ranger turned reporter Luke Montgomery. So when Luke runs a front page story about Jazz, calling her a hero for her recent victory—saving the life of the governor’s daughter—she feels uncomfortable with the exposure, and rightly so. A vicious enemy from her past takes notice of the article and sets out on a mission to reveal Jazz’s secrets and ruin her life in the process. At the same time, a corrupt cop is out to take Jazz down at any cost.  As her world begins to unravel, Jazz is forced to rely on Luke for help—putting his life and the lives of those closest to him in danger.
You can view the In Her Sights book trailer, read excerpts, read reviews, sign up for my mailing list and even request trading cards or a Kindlegraph on my website at www.robinperini.com.

Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Robin:  I love learning, and one of the opportunities I try to take advantage of is a day-long research event hosted by the Kiss of Death chapter of Romance Writers of America®. One year, the group visited the Arvada Police Department in Denver, Colorado. And the SWAT Team was there. I stood back as others asked questions and studied the interplay between the elite members of this team. My mind started whirling. What kind of man would be a sniper? What would his relationship be with the other members of his team? Then I learned that a woman could be a SWAT team member as long as she could meet the physical requirements. I didn’t really put it all together until I was speaking to another writer friend. I told her that women could be members of SWAT. She asked, “What if your sniper IS your heroine?”
Lightening struck!
Jazz was born. In Her Sights was born. All the questions I’d been asking—including what does it take to be a sniper—crystallized, and the story was inevitable from that moment on.

Q7) What is up next for you?
Robin: November 29, 2011—the release date of In Her Sights—was the culmination of a lot of years of dreaming, and I hope the beginning of dreams I never imagined. So much has already happened since I sold In Her Sights. Within months I sold three more novels to Harlequin Intrigue.
So, in 2012, three romantic suspense novels will be released from Harlequin. Finding Her Son, which won the 2011 Romance Writers of America ® Golden Heart® Award in Contemporary Series Romance: Suspense/Adventure as Stolen Lullaby, will be released in March 2012. In the story, a woman determined to find her kidnapped son, and who is suspected in her husband’s death, reluctantly teams with the embattled SWAT cop assigned to prove her guilt. Cowboy in the Crossfire, in which a woman desperate to protect her young son after he witnesses a murder, is forced into an alliance with the disgraced Texas Sheriff who her family framed, will come out in July, 2012. A third book will hit the shelves, Christmas, 2012.
I truly hope there are many more stories to tell!

Q8) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
Robin: I can’t wait to read my friend Darynda Jones’ Second Grave on the Left. I loved First Grave on the Right, but my writing schedule hasn’t allowed me to read the second book. I just love her wit. She’s a special writer.

Q9) Is there anything else you would like to add?
Robin: Just a small note to the readers out there. Readers. What an amazing thought. Thank you for taking a chance each time you open a book in the hopes that the story will mean something to you. If I could ask something of you, it would be to keep reading and share your love of reading with others so that the world of stories and books expands and grows and remains strong.

Books-n-Kisses: Robin, again thank you so very much for making Books-n-Kisses a stop on your book tour. I have enjoyed learning more about you and your book. I look forward to reading and see what you come up with next.
Robin: Thanks so much for having me here. I’ve had a blast. And I do love to hear from readers. Please connect with me. You can get in touch via my website, www.robinperini.com where you can view the In Her Sights book trailer, read excerpts, read reviews, sign up for my mailing list and even request trading cards or a Kindlegraph. I’m also on Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads. I’d love to hear from you.

Interview with Billi Jean

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Billi Jean to the blog today. We are going to be talking about her books Midnight Star & Silvers Chance

Billi Jean has been writing since high school when she couldn’t wait for Robert Jordon to write his Wheel of Time series faster. She writes from home in a little two hundred year old farm house in Western Massachusetts where she shares her space with her active children, an old dog, and two lazy cats.
Her first book, Midnight Star, has won numerous awards and was voted Best Book by Long and Short Reviews. Her next installment in the Sisters of the Moon series, Silver’s Chance, hit the shelves in August 2011. The next, A Spartan’s Kiss will arrive right on Valentine’s Day, 2012.
Stop by her blog http://readingwritingromance.blogspot.com/and leave a message! She can also be found on twitter and Facebook. For more information on what’s coming up in her series, friend her on Goodreads, or follow her blog for snippets of her upcoming stories in the Sisters of the Moon series.

Billi: Thank you! I’m thrilled to be here today. I’ve been following your blog for a while and enjoy all the interviews and giveaway’s. I can completely relate to your somewhat dim look on winter. I am so not looking forward to the snow, shoveling, and driving in the fluffy white stuff! J

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Billi: Well, Iet’s see….I think I’m a pretty normal, average woman….with really hot fantasies I can write about! J  Seriously, I’m a mother of a very active six-year-old going on 30 and a teenage son ready to leave the nest. Sadly, I really don’t want him to go! I guess I’m pretty normal in that, too. The fun I find in life, what I do for on my free time from my day job is writing. I love creating a world and filling it full of people with great personalities and problems.

Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Billi: Well, I’ve always written, but never thought I’d be an author until just a few years ago when I got a chance to sit down and write. Since then, I’ve pushed myself to be a writer, and to write well.

Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Billi: Oh, my favorite authors? I have a ton! My favorites at the moment are Jambrea Jones, Rhian Cahill, Samantha Kane, Lexxie Cooper, and Gena Showalter! And of course there are a bunch more that I’ve not mentioned!

Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Billi:  For me writing is either at night, after my family is in bed, or on the weekends. I start the day by getting coffee, making my bed, organizing the house a bit – laundry, dishes, trash – then I sit down and open up the manuscript I worked on the day before. I edit the last bit of that to refresh my mind, and to simply edit for a bit before I dig into a new scene. I typically write a lot in one sitting. I can do up to 5-8K without a break if it’s flowing and it’s my first run through. I like to push myself to keep the pace going because when I hit a snag, then it slows the pace down considerable!

Let’s talk about your books

Q5) Can you tell us a little about Midnight Star?
Billi: Midnight Star is a love story between a beautiful vampire, Star, and a hotheaded, but honorable lyake, Ranger. Ranger makes quite a few mistakes in his pursuit of Star, starting by not liking what fate drew as his mate – a vampire. It’s a story of growth for both characters. Ranger does some heavy soul searching even when he’s tricking Star to keep her down in a disgusting cave system so he can have a chance with her. J What can he say? He finally has her alone long enough to make up for his stupidity, and yet, when he gets his chance, his stupidity continues. Don’t get me wrong, he means well – and he’s not stupid – he just makes ‘male’ centered choices and forgets to think outside of that narrow slice of intellect. But in the end, that stupidity – wins Star over to believing he is truly in love with her. I mean, he kept her down in slimy caves, almost got her killed a few times, and all for a chance to spend more time with her? What girl wouldn’t fall for that?

Q6) Can you tell us a little about Silver’s Chance?
Billi: Well, Silver’s Chance is more about letting go of your inner turmoil and insecurities than proving your love through any underhanded means necessary! J Derrick and Samantha are the main characters and both are driven, intelligent, honorable characters with hidden insecurities. After Samantha rescuing him from his imprisonment, Derrick fears his sanity and his wolf’s growing power over him. Samantha, on the other hand, is busy trying to save her sister and beating herself up over having lost her sister, that she feels guilty simply thinking about the sexy overgrown warlord – Derrick. But in the end they both are the cure for the other so to speak, and form a bond that they are both stronger for. Their story falls before Star and Ranger’s story, but because of my own personal issues (ie, first time published author here!) Silver’s Chance released in August of 2011.

Q7) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Billi: The series was always lurking in the back of my head, I think. The world, the struggles and then the characters just grew with time. I sat down and started to write and the images were so clear it was hard to stop long enough to go pee, let alone sleep.

Q8) What is up next for you?
Billi: Up next for the series (and me!) is Tabithia’s story – A Spartan’s Kiss. After that, and hopefully this next year, will be Golden’s Rule – the story of Susanna—the missing twin!

Q9) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
Billi: I’ve got several – but Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon’s Northern Exposure is high on the list!

Interview & Giveaway with Kiru Taye

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Kiru Taye to our website today.

Kiru: It’s great to visit Book-n-Kisses on this beautiful day. Thank you for inviting me.

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself
Kiru: My name is Kiru. I was born and grew up Nigeria but now live in the UK.  I’m married to my very own alpha hero. We have two your children – my daughter is 6 years old and my son is 4 years old.
I write romance stories—contemporary, historical and paranormal—set in Africa. My stories feature dark tortured heroes and strong sassy heroines.
When I’m not writing, you can find me reading – romance, thriller, fantasy fiction novels. I also love travelling and fashion. Most of all I enjoy spending my time with close family and friends.
Q2) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Kiru: As a child I wanted to be an Engineer because my father was one. So I studied Electronics Engineering at Uni. Plus my parents are Africans. African parents are mainly only interested in the professions – law, medicine, finance, business, etc. So doing the Arts was never really an option for me as a child.
Q3) Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Kiru: Writers who have influenced me mostly include James Clavell and Jacqueline Susann. I read their books as a teenager and wanted to write like them.
Q4) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Kiru: My writing day starts at 9am after the morning school run and ends at 2.30pm before the afternoon school run. I sit at my desk in the upstairs study and work on whatever new story I’m writing. On a good day, I can write anything up to 6000 words. But my writing day isn’t just about writing. It’s also about communicating with people – my editor via email, my readers via blog posts and friends/other writers via facebook and twitter. So some days I don’t get to write at all, especially at weekends.
Q5) Let’s talk about your new book His Treasure.  Can you tell us a little about it
Kiru: His Treasure is a historical romance novella set in medieval West Africa. It’s about a man who loves his wife unconditionally and would do anything to keep her; and a woman who is determined to make her own choices, though she’d been coerced to marry a man she knew little about.
In this story I wanted to write about an alpha hero who didn’t stump about demanding his rights a husband but through consistent measured actions, won his wife over.
Here’s the blurb:
In a time when men ruled their households with firm hands, can a quiet man tame his rebellious wife with persevering love?
Angry at being forced to marry a man not of her choosing, Adaku stubbornly shuns her new husband on their wedding night. However, she soon discovers there are worse things than giving in to a man whose touch awakens her deep desires. In a land where fruitfulness is celebrated, she could soon be labeled a barren woman.
Obinna knows there are several ways to tame a rebellious woman. Patience and perseverance are two of them. Adaku is his treasure and he will never let her go. When her fears push her into his arms, will he be able to convince her to stay with him forever by unleashing the passion within her?
Q6) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Kiru: I love reading historical romance especially those set in medieval times.   I especially love reading the sensual Historical Undone line by Harlequin. Most of it is set in Europe and America. But when I read a story by Jeannie Lin set in ancient China, I thought why not write a historical romance story set in Africa. That’s how His Treasure was born.
Q7) What is up next for you?
Kiru: His Treasure is part of a series titled Men of Valor. Book 2, His Strength is currently going through editing and will be out February 10, 2012. I’m currently writing Book 3, His Princess. I also recently completed a contemporary romance novella which will be out in February 2012 as part of an Anthology for Romance Writers of West Africa.
Q8) What is the best piece of advice you would give to a buddy author?
Kiru: Write what you love, write what you know. Be professional.
Q9) What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
Kiru: There are four books waiting for my reading attention as soon as possible. A Touch of Crimson by Sylvia Day, Hardware by Jayda McTyson, Fallen by Elise Marion and Scandinavian Scandal by Doris O’Connor.
Q10) Is there anything else you would like to add?
Kiru: I’d like to say a big thank you to Books-n-Kisses for hosting me on this beautiful day. I’d also like to thank all the readers for stopping by and leaving a comment.
I’m giving away one electronic copy of His Treasure to one random commenter who answers this question correctly. Remember to leave your email address so you can be contacted.
Question: Apparently, I write like a very famous fiction writer. Who is he? The correct answer is shown on the left-hand bar of my blog.

Interview & Giveaway with Camryn Rhys

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Camryn Rhys to the blog today.  We are looking forward to learning a little more about Camryn and her book Off the Record.

Camryn: So happy to be here today. There’s nothing I like better than books and kisses. J

Q1) Please tell us a little about yourself
Camryn: Well, I’m from the West, so writing about the Southeast was new for me, but this was just where my characters ended up. But in general, I like to write about the West. There’s something really unique and fun about the culture out here. It’s intense, in a very laid-back way. J

Q2)  Tell us a typical writing day for you
Camryn: Depends on the day. I have a full-time job, so on a work day, I usually come home and try to write a bit at night. Although in all honesty, most of the time I end up doing business and editing/plotting on my work days. But on my off-days, I write all day long. I try for at least 1K on my work days, and on my writing days, I try for 6-10K. Of course, that’s schedule-willing.

Q3) Have you always wanted to be an author or what made you become an author?
Camryn: I think I’ve wanted to be an author since I was born. I was a great… storyteller… yeah, that’s what I’ll call it. Yes. I’ve been telling stories for such a long time.

Q4) Tell us a little about your book Off the Record:
Camryn: It’s a foodie romance, which are my favorite to write. My main character is a chef, and her soon-to-be-love-interest is a food critic who’s about to publish a bad review about her restaurant. Lots of conflict. J

Q5) How did you come up with the idea for this story?
Camryn: A friend of mine opened a restaurant recently and she had a bad experience with a food critic, and it just made me realize that in certain communities, one bad review can absolutely kill a restaurant. From there, Kit was born and I was in love.

Q6)  What is your current work in progress?
Camryn: I’m working on a very secret (and soon to be not-so-secret) project with Decadent Press with a couple of other Western authors. I’m very excited about it and there will be more information on my website very soon.

Q7) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Camryn: I love Kristen Painter. She has this ability to write in any genre that I really covet. My good friend Cassandra Carr writes a sex scene like nobody’s business. And I just adore Beth Kery. I met her at RWA my first year, sitting at the hotel bar, drinking a very rich red wine. She was the exact embodiment of her characters. Sophisticated and very cool. I hadn’t read a single one of her books, but once I did, I put her on my “must-buy” list. She and Joey Hill are my absolute favorite erotic romance writers of all time. They are the people I aspire to be.

Q8) Have to ask because I am nosey.  That is in your to be read pile that you are dying to read next?
Camryn: I’m a member of Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, and I adore myself a good Celtic romance. So I’ve got a bunch of my fellow CHRW writers on my TBR list. Vonda Sinclair has a couple of really amazing Highlander books out from Carina Press that I am dying to get to read. And Margaret Mallory’s The Sinner and The Guardian are right up there. I’m also trying to read through the Black Dagger Brotherhood this year. We’ll see if I can make it. There are about a hundred of those things. J

Q9) Is there anything else you would to add?
Camryn: Just that I can be found on Twitter and one of my two blogs (either my website, or the Dirty Birdies blog) on a pretty regular basis. Stop by and say hi. I love to meet new people!

Books-n-Kisses: Camryn, thank you for taking the time to stop by the blog today to chat about yourself and your books. I am looking forward to reading Off the Record.  To learn more about Camryn or her books check her out here: Website / Blog / Facebook / Twitter
