Interview & giveaway with Tammy Falkner

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Tammy Falkner to the blog today to chat about her newest release “THE MAGIC OF ‘I DO”

Tammy, can you please share with us a little about yourself?

I am a mom of two boys – 18 and 9. And yes, they still fight even though there’s such a large spread between them.  I have been married for more than twenty years (and I just turned 39)

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I have always written, but didn’t know I truly wanted to be an author until someone at work looked at a short story I wrote and told me I was in the wrong profession.

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?

Both!  I have a general idea of where my story is going when I start it, but I don’t know the particulars.  I know the major events that will happen, but not how they will tie into every scene.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I procrastinate.  A lot.  To the point where I end up writing a book in a month, rather than the six that I planned to spend on it.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

My new series revolves around a family of faeries – Sophia, Claire and Marcus.  Their mother fell in love with a human, and her wings were clipped, so when she delivered three fae children, they were stolen from her, along with the memories of them, and taken back to the fae world.  My faeries are mission faeries, and they’re taxed with helping humans where problems arise.  So, they must live and interact with humans but never fall in love with them.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I had already written vampyres and Lycans in Regency England, and I wanted to expand and see what else might live and interact with the ton.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I just finished the third book in the series, THE MAGIC BETWEEN US.  THE MAGIC OF ‘I DO’ launches June 4th, and I have a new adult book coming out at the end of June called TALL, TATTED AND TEMPTING.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Join RWA or your local chapter of RWA.  The resources they offer are invaluable, and I wouldn’t be published today if not for them.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?

I want to learn to water ski.  I used to do it when I was REALLY young, and I tried it last year and just wasn’t able to pull it off!

What is one book everyone should read before they die?

Colleen Hoover’s SLAMMED series is one of my new favorites

What is your favorite time of year & why?

Definitely the fall.   It’s cooler, and there’s no pollen like in the spring.

Who is your Celebrity crush?  And what would you do if you ever meet them?

I just asked my husband this, and he got this little gleam in his eyes and said, “Ellen Degeneris.”  He’s right. I would have to go all fan girl if I ever got to meet her.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks so much for having me today. I hope everyone loves THE MAGIC OF ‘I DO’!

Desperately Seeking Excitement…

With the temporary prohibition on magic on the land of the Fae, Claire Thorne might as well go back to the Regency world. The haut ton has just as many annoying rules as her world, but at least they have parties and dances. Plus, the roguish Lord Phineas “Finn” Trimble is there…

When the feisty faerie tumbles into his room through a magical portal, Finn can’t believe how completely unpredictable she is. Even before the two stumble into a dangerous intrigue that threatens both their worlds, Finn discovers that his hitherto carefree life is about to go up in smoke…

Interview & giveaway with Carolyn Brown

Note from Carolyn to the BNK Readers: Thank you all so much for inviting me to stop by your site today and visit about Billion Dollar Cowboy, the debut book in my brand new cowboy romance series, Cowboys & Brides. It’s a delight to be interviewed here. A word of warning—I’m a writer and I love words so sometimes I do get a little carried away with answers!

Can you please share with us a little about yourself?

CB: I’m a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Yes, I was a very young bride (17 years old) and I’ve been married 46 years. My first two books sold the same day in 1997 and Billion Dollar Cowboy is my 63rd book to be published. My goal is to see 100 books on the shelf with my name on them. I have other more immediate goals like finishing the rough draft of the work in progress but that’s one of my big goals.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

CB: Oh, yes, ma’am. Ever since I picked up one of those little fat pencils and a Big Chief tablet (that was in the days when a tablet was not a technical device) I wanted to write stories.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

CB: My typical writing day starts when I wake up. My characters and I plod across the hallway to my office and we get busy. I like to have a thousand words done before breakfast. Husband brings a cup of coffee, sits it on my desk, eases the door shut and leaves me alone for an hour. After that I don’t bite or cuss and we have a wonderful breakfast together (he is a retired English teacher so he’s home all day). Then I finish the chapter I’m working on, have lunch and write one more chapter before bedtime. My goal is 5000 words each day but sometimes the grandchildren or the birds singing in the back yard gets in the way of the goal

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

CB: The most challenging part has to be letting go of my natural controlling nature and letting my characters out of the box. I tend to want to tell them how the story goes but they were there and if I listen to them, my editor is far happier with my work.

(Shhh…don’t tell anyone that I have voices in my head!) The most rewarding part is when the book is finished and on the shelf and I get a note like this: I have always hated reading. But about one year ago I was walking through a book store and “Red’s hot cowboy” grabbed my arm. I fell in LOVE with the book and author. I’m buying your books like crazy and I’m loving reading. Keep writing Mrs. Carolyn Brown, you are one awesome lady!!!! Thank you for changing my life!!!…Carla Jones-Sawyer. To know that one of my cowboys turned a non-reader into a reader just puts a smile on my face for days and days.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

CB: Billion Dollar Cowboy is the story of Colton Nelson, a ranch hand who won the lottery and boom, he was a millionaire. His best friend, Andy, who was a financial genius invested well for him and turned him into a billionaire. But down deep in his heart, Colton just wanted to be a rancher. The women in the area were like the little kids in the Christmas story…only visions of dollars danced in their heads, not visions of sugar plums. Andy’s distant cousin, Laura Baker, has been getting her older sister out of gambling debt for years so it’s nothing new. But this time her sister has borrowed a lot of money and Laura has just lost her job. Andy offers her work on the ranch as his assistant until she can earn enough to get the sister out of debt. She’s there. Colton needs a fake girlfriend to keep the gold diggers at bay…and so the story begins.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

CB: Go back to #4 about those voices in my head. I had just finished the last book in the Spikes & Spurs series and these four cowboys popped up behind me. Colton said that he wanted his story told first and he introduced me to Laura and then to the secondary characters: his grandmother, Maudie, her foster child, Roxie, a sixteen year old girl that reminds Laura of herself at that age, and Rusty, the ranch foreman. I had no choice but to tell the story or else I was going to spend lots of sleepless nights fretting about just how things were going in Ambrose, Texas.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

CB: I’m writing the last chapters of the fourth book in this series this week. How to Marry a Cowboy. So how does one marry a cowboy? Rachel Green says that the first thing you do is put on a wedding dress and then fall asleep in the swing on his front porch. I’m very excited about this book because it has a set of twin girls that are so ornery that folks in the first three books of the series have declared that they could scale a glass wall on a rainy day.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

CB: LaVryle Spencer has always been a favorite but I’m a very eclectic reader. I also like Leon Uris, Carl Hiaason, Randy Wayne White, Sue Grafton, Joanne Kennedy, J. A. Jance and…how much room do we have for this interview. I can just get plumb carried away when I talk about my favorite authors. Oh, did I mention Mary Kay Andrews, Jill Mansill and Grace Burrowes?

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

CB: Every author I’ve ever read has inspired me in one way or the other. Maybe it was the way they wrote a tender love scene or a hot sex scene. Or maybe it was their way of presenting the story, or the way they made their characters come alive, or the way that their writing touched my emotions. I really believe that if a writer can touch their readers’ emotions then that reader will come back for the next book. We like to feel what we read; not just look at words.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.
CB: Page 81: Laura needs a dress to go to a fancy party with Colton and Maudie has taken her to an exclusive little shop in Sherman. Laura’s having no part of it, not with price tags with that many zeros. Excerpt:

“What if you had as much money as Colton? Would you spend that much on a one-of-a-kind dress,” Roxie asked.

(Laura’s answer) “I would not. But I’m not rich. And I won’t ever be rich. And I’m not impressed by rich people or money. There’s the Ross store, Maudie. That’s where I want to go.”

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

CB: Joanne Kennedy’s Cowboy Tough is on the top of the pile right along with Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews and Husband bought me a signed copy of one of Nora’s older books, High Noon.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

CB: I’d like to thank you again for letting me speechify about my books and I’d like to tell my readers to keep their boots on and their cowboy hats close by. There are three more books in the Cowboys & Brides series: The Cowboy’s Christmas Baby (Oct. 2013), The Cowboy’s Mail Order Bride (Feb. 2014) and How to Marry a Cowboy (May, 2014) AND the final book in the Spikes & Spurs series, Cowboy Seeks Bride (Aug. 2013).

Peg Cochran Blog Tour Interview and Review

Steamed to Death

I am excited for Peg Cochran to be here today to promote her new book, Steamed to Death, the second novel in her Gourmet De-Lite mystery series.  She has been kind enough to answer a few questions for us today.

1. When you’re not writing or editing your own books, what authors or genres do you like to read?

I love mystery and suspense (as long as it’s not too gory).  Some favorite authors include Deborah Crombie, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Peter Robinson, PD James.

2. What’s your favorite thing about being a author?

I get to make stuff up!   I love dreaming up characters and disappearing into the world I’ve created.  It’s the most fun I can think of—except when it’s not—like when you’re stuck in the middle of the book—the hardest part to write.  But I always manage to dig myself out.

3. What would you tell new readers to your series about your series, to inspire them to pick them up?

My daughter is in college and I need the money for tuition?  Seriously, someone left a review on Amazon that said I really took the time to develop the characters and the mystery.  And that is what I try to do—create characters that become your best friends.  If you like a small town setting, with plenty of food and cooking thrown in, I think you would like the series.

 4. Are the recipes from your books your own tried and true recipes? Do you have a favorite recipe?

They’re recipes I have adapted to be lower calorie and lower fat by making substitutions.  Then, I usually have to add a little something…or leave out something we don’t like.  Next thing you know, I’ve created an entirely new dish!  But hubby had a quintuple bypass last summer, so I have to make sure we eat healthy things.  As to a favorite, there are the ones I make over and over—lower fat shepherd’s pie, a smoky chipotle chili (recipe coming in Steamed to Death!), chicken tortilla soup (recipe is in Allergic to Death).

 5. Are any of your characters inspired by family or friends?

No.  Although my mother is convinced she’s in every book I write.

6. What are you currently reading?

I just finished Gone Girl and was blown away by it.  I would love to be able to write like that!  I also just finished Laura Lippman’s newest…I’m so bad I never remember titles, but I think it was When She Was Good.

Thank you so much for being here today and I can’t wait to read more from this mystery series.

About the Author:

Peg-Cochran-author-photo-245x300Peg grew up in a New Jersey suburb about 25 miles outside of New York City.  After college, she moved to the city where she managed an art gallery owned by the son of the artist Henri Matisse.  When her first daughter, Francesca, arrived, the new family moved back to the New Jersey suburbs where her second daughter, Annabelle, was born.

After her husband died, Peg remarried and her new husband took a job in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they now live (on exile from New Jersey, she likes to joke). Peg managed to segue from the art world to marketing and is now the manager of marketing communications for a company that provides services to seniors.

Her greatest love though has always been writing – particularly mysteries! She has two cozy mystery series from Berkley Prime Crime: The Gourmet De-Lite series set in Connecticut and featuring Gigi Fitzgerald, who provides gourmet diet meals to a select group of clients and the Sweet Nothings Vintage Lingerie series, written as Meg London, set in Paris, Tennessee with Emma Taylor who finds murder and mayhem in this quiet country town.

As for pets – she has a schizophrenic cat (really!) named Frazzle and a Westhighland White Terrier, Reggie, who is desperately in need of losing a few pounds.  But you know what they say: If your dog is overweight, it means YOU aren’t getting enough exercise!

When she’s not writing, Peg can usually be found cooking, which she loves.  When asked to bring a dish to a potluck she invariably opts to bring dessert – partly because she loves making sweet dishes and partly because she and her husband always manage to be late so there’s no point in putting them in charge of appetizers!

Jennifer’s Review of Steamed to Death

Steamed to Death

TITLE: Steamed to Death

SERIES #: A Gourmet De-Lite Mystery #2

CHARACTERS: Gigi Fitzgerald, Sienna, Detective Mertz

AUTHOR: Peg Cochran

PUBLICATION DATE:  06/04/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Gourmet health food caterer Gigi Fitzgerald is used to helping dieters drop a dress size. But when her clients start dropping dead, she’s ready to switch her chef’s hat for a detective’s cap and track down a killer….

Aging soap star Felicity Davenport is looking to revamp her image, and she’s using Gigi’s Gourmet De-Lite to help her shed a few of those unwanted pounds.  Having such a high-profile client is definitely good for business, but when Felicity is found murdered in her sauna, things start getting too hot for Gigi to handle.

The list of suspects is a mile long, and Gigi’s best friend, Sienna, is at the top.  Refusing to let her friend get blamed for a crime she didn’t commit, Gigi is determined to hunt down the real killer.  But, as the case reaches a boiling point, Gigi will have to be careful or she could be the next one getting burned.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I really enjoyed Peg’s first novel, Allergic to Death, so I was excited to read more about Gigi and her booming gourmet catering business. In this book, Gigi’s main customer is a daytime soap star looking to make a comeback and hires Gigi to provide all her meals when tragedy strikes.  Felicity is found dead in her sauna and Sienna, Gigi’s best friend, is the prime suspect. Sienna is also several months pregnant and has been helping Felicity with her publicity, so Gigi is desperate to determine the true culprit before Sienna is arrested for a crime she didn’t commit.

Steamed to Death is a very cute mystery and I love the quirky cast of characters in this one. Gigi finally has a possible love interest in this story with the handsome Detective Mertz and the new restaurant owner, Declan McQuaid. This book has the right dash of mystery, humor and romance that will have you entertained until the very last sentence.  I loved the recipes and everyone knows that I’m a big fan of books that deal with the culinary world.  Steamed to Death is the perfect recipe for a lazy afternoon and I can’t wait to read more about Gigi and the residents of Woodstone, Connecticut.

Interview & giveaway with Mia Marlowe

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back Mia Marlowe to the blog today.  We are chatting about her newest book One Night with a Rake.

Mia, for those who missed you the first time can you please share with us a little about yourself?

Mia: I’m a totally curious person, always been addicted to learning new things. My kids say I’m a fount of useless information (yet they both read every tag in museums now just as I used to do for them when they were little). Guess I’ve passed on my obsessive need to be a factoid magpie. On a personal note, I’m still married to my college sweetheart and, in addition to the aforementioned kids, am the proud pet parent of two puppy mill reject dogs.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Mia: Heavens, no! I’ve had a pretty checkered career path. I’ve been—hold on!—a professional opera singer, a teacher, a choir director, a home schooling mom, a realtor, a banker and finally, a writer. I decided to try my hand at writing after meeting an author and deciding if she can do it, I can do it. The Greeks have a word for that. It’s called “hubris.” Once I dove into it, I discovered writing involved an ocean of skills to master.

Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

Mia: I really enjoy Deanna Raybourn, Sherry Thomas, and Diana Gabaldon to name a few. I grew up reading MM Kaye, Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt.

How did you get into writing in this specific genre?  Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

Mia: Because I love the “take me away” qualities of historical romance, I never considered writing any other subgenre. However, I do enjoy cross-overs and like a little paranormal magic in my historicals from time to time. No weres or vampires, just a little psychic fun.

What are some of your writing rituals?

Mia: I’m a stickler for meeting deadlines so once I have the characters and basic story shape in my head, I map out my word count so I know how much I need to advance daily in order to reach my goal. I write until I hit the count each day—five days a week.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

Mia: One Night with a Rake is the story of Lord Nathaniel, an incorrigible rake who’s been blackmailed into seducing Lady Georgette. However, the beautiful reformist is no easy conquest. Nate has to convince her that he cares about someone other than himself. No one is more surprised than Nate when he actually does!

How did you come with the idea for this story?

Mia: In 1817, Princess Charlotte died along with her stillborn son. She was the only legitimate grandchild of King George III. Suddenly, the succession was in question and the unmarried sons of the king realized if they could present their royal father with a legitimate heir, that child might one day wear the crown. So the Dukes of Sussex, Cambridge and Kent went a-courting. That’s the actual history behind the Royal Rakes series and One Night with a Rake. In my fictional world, a member of Parliament doesn’t want to see the House of Hanover continue on the throne, so he coerces Lord Nathaniel into making sure Lady Georgette is no longer eligible for a royal duke’s attention. The result is a Regency romp with plenty of sizzle.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Mia: For Sourcebooks, I’m working on a new series called Somerfield Park—a Downton Abbey-esque world set in the Regency era. And I’m also writing a Scottish Christmas novel for Kensington complete with crumbling castles, a hunky, kilted hero and a mysterious jeweled scepter that is the envy of every clan. Check my Coming Next page for the latest!

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

Mia: I opened One Night with a Rake to page 241. Georgette’s maid Mercy has been leading Reuben the footman a merry chase.  She’s a reformed whore who doesn’t believe she deserves to be loved and is irritated when Reuben tries to convince her otherwise. She’d rather welcome him to her bed with no strings attached. Now he’s taken a solid clout to the head that’s rendered him insensible and the doctor recommends Mercy talk to him in the hopes that he’ll waken when he hears her voice. Tough-minded Mercy doesn’t share what’s in her heart very often, but a man who can’t talk back is the perfect sounding board.

What would you be if you were not an author?

Mia: A travel & food journalist. I love to visit new places and try new things. The DH and I just returned from a cruise around the UK and I’d be happy to write about the dubious joys of haggis, neeps & tatties!

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Mia: Next up on my Kindle is Four Sisters, All Queens by Sherry Jones. Sherry and I are going to be rooming together at RWA Nationals in Atlanta in July, so I want to be able to talk with her intelligently about her work.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Mia: Here’s what Publishers Weekly has to say about One Night with a Rake:

“Marlowe’s fast-paced second Royal Rakes romance (after Waking Up with a Rake) features a progressive heiress and a jaded nobleman. In Regency England, the Duke of Cambridge want to marry quickly, hoping to father the next heir to the throne. His enemies blackmail Lord Nathaniel Colton into agreeing to deflower Cambridge’s potential bride, Lady Georgette—the daughter of the Marquis of Yorkingham and sister of Nate’s deceased fiancée. Georgette often travels to the seediest parts of London to help prostitutes leave their sordid lifestyles, so Nate offers to be her protector; proximity results in romantic trysts that lead her down the path of ruin and him closer to realizing that he has true feelings for her. Mystery simmers alongside the romance as Nate and Georgette seek a killer while contemplating a future together. Passionate interludes and scintillating twists and turns will entice historical fans.”

Interview & giveaway with Donna Grant

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back the amazingly sweet Donna Grant to the blog.

Donna, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author with over 30 books to my name.  I live in Texas with my family but my mind is normally in Scotland with my characters. J

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Actually, I studied to be a professional ballerina for most of my life.  It wasn’t until college that I contemplated writing.  Then, my husband urged me to give it a try.  Four months later after I’d written my first book I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I’ve been writing since before my children were born, so I’ve learned to write with a baby in my arms, a toddler playing at my feet, and anything in between.  I found the house oddly quiet once they started school. J  Now, years later, I look forward to having the house all to myself as I turn up my music and delve into my books.

My typical writing day is get up with the kids and get them off to school.  I’ll either work out or go running with my hubby before I come home, eat breakfast, answer emails and play on FaceBook for a bit.  Then I move from my desk to my favorite overstuffed chair and my laptop so I can start writing.  I write at least 20 pages a day, so I’ll get 10 done before lunch, then take a break to eat, and do the remaining 10 after that.  Once the pages are done I’ll do copy edits, revisions, galley proofs, or whatever else needs to be done on the other books until hubby and the kids get home.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

My most challenging part of the book is writing those damn synopses. :S  Really do not like those.  The most rewarding is everything else involved in writing.  I love to watch an idea come alive on paper and characters surprise me as I’m writing their stories.  Finishing a book also has a special part.  But the very, very best is seeing your book on the shelves!

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

MIDNIGHT’S CAPTIVE features Charon and Laura.  Charon differs from the other Warriors because he went back to his home town after he escaped Deirdre and for centuries has bought land and businesses to keep it beautiful, but also to protect it.  He’ll go away for several decades, and then return with a new name, but always he protects his people.

Laura comes to Ferness to escape her family and finds a home there, and then a job with Charon. She’s always been attracted to him, but believes he only thinks of her as a friend.  When Charon’s enemies come to harm Laura to get to him, Laura learns who he really is as well as discovers a secret about herself. It will take both of them to defeat Charon’s enemies.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I knew with Charon that his story would take place in Ferness.  It’s where he has chosen to be, and I knew his heroine would be closely tied to the town and him.  It only seemed natural that she work for him.  That constant close contact and the attraction neither believes the other feels was something I hadn’t done with the Warriors and Druids before.  With the story not taking place at MacLeod Castle, or involving the castle much, again, it was different, and I felt pertinent to their story.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

I’m writing a bonus short story to put into the yet untitled print edition for the 3 Dark King E novellas that came out last year spinning off my dragon series. Just as soon as that’s done I’ve got to work on a Christmas novella I was just asked to do.  Once those two are done, I’ll get back to DARKEST FLAME, the first full length Dark King book due out May of 2014.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Lara Adrian, Karen Marie Moning, Kresley Cole, Lorraine Heath, and Stephanie Laurens to name a few

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Definitely! Every book I read as well as life experiences help to shape an author’s skills for their next book.

Open your book to a random page and please reads us a few lines.

“Phelan told us that much,” Ian said.

Charon went to body after body on the ground, but none of them was Laura. Panic began to set in. “Laura!”

“She’s no’ here,” Phelan said as he moved debris. “She’s gone.”

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

My TBR pile is huge – and growing.  I get most of my reading done in breaks between books or on vacation.  Yet, I can’t help buying more books. I love to read, as does the rest of my family. There are nights you’ll find us all reading. J

A Cursed Embrace Blog Tour Review and Giveaway

I am very excited today to be hosting A Cursed Embrace Blog Tour with our special guest, Cecy Robson.  The Weird Girls series is a wonderful series and I hope you all check it out.

1. Tell us a little bit about your new release A CURSED EMBRACE

A CURSED EMBRACE is the story of love, and exploding demons―I’m deadly serious. The demons have found a way to cross into our world and remain among us. This novel also delves into Celia’s relationship with Aric, a pureblood werewolf. While the action and humor found in SEALED WITH A CURSE remains, A CURSED EMBRACE is more of an emotional roller coaster.

2. Where did you come up with the idea for the Weird Girls?

My weird girls originally developed from a dream about four commando-type girls, and one who has a vision about their boyfriends being in trouble. I know nothing about the military, but I liked the idea of the girls having powers. My imagination took it from there. Since the girls were so different, they needed a bond. So I made them sisters.

3. The sisters are nurses.  Did you always plan for them to be nurses or was there another career in mind?

The sisters have always been ostracized by the human world, and have really only ever had each other to rely on. I wanted to give them careers where they could realistically work near each other in case something went wrong. And believe me, “something” goes wrong all the time. Nursing provides the perfect opportunity for the sisters to stay close to each other while giving them their own specialty to fit their personalities.

4. How many books do you plan for this series?

I have eight, already planned for Celia, two for Taran and Emme each, and one for Shayna. I also have two spin-off series planned.  There could also be more, depending on how well the novels are received.

5. What are you working on now?

I have my Old Erth series, a high fantasy romance on submission. I’m also currently working on a magical, post-apocalyptic New Adult novel tentatively titled The Falcon Series.

6. Do you have any actors in mind for each of your characters?

Of course! I’d love to have Emmy Rossum play Celia, Emmanuelle Chriqui for Taran, Lily Collins as Shayna, and Dianna Agron would make a great Emme.  I’d also love to see Alex Pettyfer portray Aric, and Taylor Kitsch would make a fantastic Misha.

7. What food or drink do you absolutely have to have while writing?

Water, hot green tea, and anything crunchy―I love blueberries to munch on and also walnuts!

8. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

To keep writing, no matter what you hear, or how discouraged you feel. A lot of people will tell you no. And some “no’s” will feel like emotional gut punches to your soul. All it takes is one yes to launch a career.

9. Favorite type of Pizza?

 Margarita!

Thank you so much for being here today and I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy to answer my questions.

Thank you for having me, Jennifer, you’ve been so wonderful!

Jennifer’s Review of A Cursed Embrace

TITLE:  A Cursed Embrace

SERIES #: The Weird Sisters #2

CHARACTERS: Celia Wird, Aric & Misha

AUTHOR: Cecy Robson

PUBLICATION DATE:  07/02/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls–with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird…

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status.  And once weres start turning up dead–with evidence pointing to the vampires–she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat.  An evil know as the Tribe has risen–and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I had been waiting patiently for A Cursed Embrace after reading Sealed with a Curse last year and I have to say that this book put me on the edge of my seat. There is a mysterious force at work in Lake Tahoe that is killing young men and disappearing with young women.  Celia and her sisters find that demons are involved in the rash of missing persons and now they are targeting the local weres.  I am continually amazed at how Cecy Robson creates such an intricate storyline that has you wondering how this is all going to end and will make you desperately want the next book in the series immediately.

I love Celia and Aric together and in this book, they finally act on the feelings that they have for each other and I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly develop.  Since Aric is the Alpha, being with Celia causes issues amongst his pack and there were times in this book that my heart was breaking for her because he couldn’t admit his true feelings for her.

Celia, to me, is a true heroine because not only is she strong and smart but will do everything in her power to protect the people that she loves even it means possibly losing her life in the process. Her relationship with her sisters is absolutely amazing and I just love how they take care of each other in the good times and when things are bad for one of them.

The ending of this book just about killed me and I had tears running down my face by the very last page. The storyline for this book is very intense and at times hard to stomach so please be prepared going in. Even though the subject matter isn’t light, it is well worth the roller coaster ride of emotions. A Cursed Embrace is action-packed from the very beginning and it proves that the Weird Sisters are a force to be reckoned with in the paranormal genre.  I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Cursed by Destiny, which is out next year.

Interview & Giveaway with Vicky Dreiling & Jennifer Haymore

Book-n-Kisses is pleased to be a part of Jennifer & Vicky’s 8 Days of Desire tour….

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for stopping a Books-n-Kisses on your tour.  We are excited to have you both here today…

Are you ready to get started?

VD:  Yes, I’m sufficiently caffeinated.

JH: Sure!

BnK:   For my readers who may not know you please tell me a little about yourself

VD:  My mom says I have had a “wild” imagination since the age of two.  She tells all of her friends at the retirement community about my books. I have a grown son & daughter. My sister-in-law Vanessa & my daughter Amber read my books. My previous jobs include admin (I was terrible at it), aerobics instructor (it was fun), and market research analyst. The best part of the marketing job was getting to travel to New York, London, Paris, and many other great cities.

JH: I am a mom of three and live in California with my family. I love writing historical romance!

BnK:  Tell us about your newest release.

VD: WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS is the first book in the new SINFUL SCOUNDRELS series.  The story features the rakish and tormented Earl of Bellingham (aka Bell) whom readers might remember as a minor character in HOW TO RAVISH A RAKE.  Bellingham is on the hunt for a new mistress and finds himself caught up in the life of the beautiful widow Laura Davenport, a vicar’s daughter with a rebellious stepson. When her son’s guardian threatens to take the boy away, a desperate Laura turns to Bellingham for assistance.

JH: THE DUCHESS HUNT is the first book in my new series, The House of Trent. I like to say this is my series about the most dysfunctional family in Regency England! The series tells the story of the Duke of Trent, his four brothers, and his sister. When their mother mysteriously disappears, the duke and his siblings come together to try to find her. Here’s a blurb for THE DUCHESS HUNT:

Simon Hawkins, duke of Trent, is no stranger to scandal. Rumors and innuendo have darkened the House of Trent for decades, and it has fallen to Simon to restore his tattered family name. He lives by a strict code of honor, but when he is called home to investigate his mother’s disappearance, the distinguished duke will tangle with temptation. For there waits the only woman he has ever loved-and the last woman he should desire . . .

Sarah Osborne has spent her life dreaming of Simon’s touch. But dukes do not long for lady’s maids-or so Sarah believes, until a stolen kiss sparks a passion that could be her ultimate undoing. As the couple begins a forbidden romance, a cunning enemy plots to destroy the duke and everything he loves. Now, caught in a blackmailer’s web, Simon faces an agonizing choice: sacrifice his family’s future or break Sarah’s heart.

BnK:  Please open your book  and read us a few lines.

VD:     She entreated Bellingham with her eyes. “It is Montclief, Justin’s guardian. “Please, say nothing of Justin to him,” she said in a low tone.

“Why?” he said. “If he is the guardian—”

“Please,” she said, aware that her voice shook.  There is no time to explain. I will do anything you ask, but I beg you not to betray me.”

He arched his brows. “Anything?”

“Yes, anything,” she said, worrying her hands.

He snared her with his blue eyes. “Be careful what you promise.”

JH: “Sarah, look at me.” He cupped her hands in his palms, and warmth instantly flushed through her, combating the cold.

“I…Sarah, I want you. But I don’t want to hurt you. I’m not the kind of man who…uses women.”

“I know you’re not.” One of the reasons she adored him.

“So you see why we can’t, why I can’t…?”

“I’m not a fool, Your Grace,” she said softly. Sarah knew that no matter what happened between them, no matter what power he had over her, Simon would never take advantage of her. “I know what I am doing. What I want.”

Simon flinched. “I don’t want to ruin you.”

“I know,” she whispered. “But sometimes I wish you did.”

BnK: Can you share with us your current work in progress

VD: The next two books in the SINFUL SCOUNDRELS series are WHAT A RECKLESS ROGUE NEEDS and WHAT A DEVILISH DUKE DESIRES

JH: I’m working on THE SCOUNDREL’S SEDUCTION, book 3 in the House of Trent series. This book is about Simon’s older half brother, Sam. Sam is the rock of the family, the warrior, but when he tangles with a woman who might be a traitor for France, his world is rocked right off its axis!

BnK:  If you were stranded on a deserted island what are the three items you would have to have to survive.

VD: Wi-Fi, My Samsung Galaxy Phone & 4G LOL. How else will I get rescued?

JH: Books to read, my comfy pillow, and a year’s supply of vanilla lattes. Wait, you didn’t mean for real, did you???

BnK:  Thank you Ladies…The wonderful Vicky & Jennifer and their publisher have given me two copies of each book.  So that means two lucky followers will get a copy of each book.  To enter please fill out the rafflecopter form below.  Good luck!

Victoria Hamilton Bowled Over Blog Tour and Review Giveaway

I am happy for Books-n-Kisses to host Victoria Hamilton as part of the Cozy Mystery Book  Tour for her new novel Bowled Over. This is the second novel in A Vintage Kitchen Mystery and I am delighted to have Victoria Hamilton here with us today.

Interview with Victoria Hamilton

1 – Tell us about your new release.
Bowled Over is Book 2 in my Vintage Kitchen Mystery series. Jaymie Leighton, the main character, tries to solve a decades old feud between her and her best friend from high school. Things don’t quite turn out how she hoped, and something of hers turns out to be the weapon in another murder in Queensville, Michigan.

2. Where did you come up with the idea for the Vintage Kitchen Mysteries?
You could say it was right in front of me the whole time! I was casting about for a hook for a cozy series, something to tie it all up together, and one thing I love is collecting vintage kitchen utensils and bowls, etc. It suddenly occurred to me, what is more cozy than the kitchen? And so Jaymie Leighton, vintage kitchenware and old cookbook collector, was born.

3. Is there one character in your series that has a similar personality to you or that you can relate to the most? Or are there characters that remind you of people in your real life?
Hmm… you know, I’ve heard it said that every character you create has a piece of you inside them. I think that’s true to some extent. Jaymie certainly is as compulsive about buying vintage as I am. But her sister, Becca, is kind of a know-it-all, and I have to severely curtail that characteristic in me! LOL. Her best friend Valetta is based on someone I knew a long time ago: kindly, spinsterish and fond of odd sweaters and clothes.

4. What are you working on next?
I’ve got a million things on the go! Book 3 of Vintage Kitchen Mysteries, entitled Freezer I’ll Shoot, comes out in November 5th, 2013, but before then I’m really excited for the first book of another cozy series, the Merry Muffin Mysteries. Book One is Bran New Death, out September 3rd 2013. Merry Wynter inherits a castle in Upstate New York and so begins her journey among the quirky residents of Autumn Vale, New York, as she tries to figure out why someone is digging deep holes all over her property… until she finds a body at the bottom of one of them!
I’m also excited about the book I’ve just finished, the first book in another new cozy series, The Teapot Collector Mysteries. Tempest in a Teapot will be out in 2014.

5. What advice would you give aspiring writers?
Believe in yourself and keep trying. I didn’t get the first book I wrote published. Nor the second. Nor the third. If you really want to get published, study the market and write for it. And no, I don’t mean become a hack; I mean find a way to inject your own unique style and personality into something that the market will find sellable. Also, perfect your writing. Good spelling, grammar and punctuation usage will make you appear more the professional, and agents and editors will take you more seriously.

6. Is there any kind of food/drink that you absolutely have to have while writing?
Oh, tea… definitely tea! I drink coffee in the morning, but there usually comes a time about mid-afternoon when I absolutely need… wait, I have to go turn the Keurig on. Okay, I’m back. I need a cup of tea. Sometimes a cookie with the tea will not go amiss!

7. I always like to do a fun question with authors so what is your favorite kind of pizza?
Oh sure, now you get to the really tough question! Kind of deluxe, I guess… I like pepperoni and ham and Italian sausage, but I like mushrooms, onions, green peppers and olives, too!

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to be here with us today.

Thank you so much for having me at Books ‘n Kisses! I’ve enjoyed it so much.

Jennifer’s review of  Bowled Over

SERIES #: A Vintage Kitchen Mystery #2

CHARACTERS: Jaymie Leighton, Valetta Nibley

AUTHOR:  Victoria Hamilton

PUBLICATION DATE:  03/5/13

ORDER LINKS:  Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Stirring up trouble…Vintage kitchenware and cookbook collector Jaymie Leighton has been estranged from her high school best friend Kathy Cooper since they were teenagers, but she never knew what turned Kathy against her.  After fireworks at a Fourth of July picnic, Jaymie discovers the body of her former friend in the park.  On the ground nearby is Jaymie’s own Depression-era glass bowl, broken in two.

With her fingerprints all over the bowl and a troubled history with the victim, Jaymie suddenly finds herself at the top of the list of suspects. Did the killer intend to frame her for the murder? If so, she is ready to mix it up, because solving crimes is vintage Jaymie Leighton…

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Jennifer             NUMBER OF STARS: Four Stars

REVIEW: I really enjoyed Victoria Hamilton’s first novel, A Deadly Grind, and was very excited to read her new book. Jaymie Leighton has finally settled back into her life after helping to solve a murder involving one of her precious antiques and is taking things slow with her new beau, Daniel Collins.  When a recent trip to the Queensville Emporium puts Jaymie face to face with her ex-best friend Kathy Cooper, tempers fly, leaving Jaymie wondering what happened to destroy their once strong childhood friendship. On the Fourth of July, Jaymie makes the decision to confront her former friend and mend their relationship but before she can do this, she discovers Kathy’s body in the park.  To make matters worse, Jaymie also finds her glass bowl broken by the dead body. I felt so bad for Jaymie when this happens because she wanted so badly to make amends and find out why her old friend hated her so much.  She had no clue what happened and now she would never have that opportunity to patch things up.

I loved this book so much more than Victoria’s first one because I got to learn more about Jaymie and her character is really starting to grow on me.  I love small town mysteries, especially ones that deal with cooking and antique collectibles so this was a very enjoyable book for me.  The secondary characters were delightful and definitely brought this book to life for me. The mystery was well written and had me guessing until the very end.  I can’t wait to read more from Victoria Hamilton and her charming Vintage Kitchen Mysteries because this is a series that can’t be missed.

Interview with Samantha Young

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Samantha Young to the blog for the frist time to talk about her newest release Down London Road.

Samantha, can you please share with us a little about yourself

Scottish with a hint of nutty, I’m twenty seven years old, born in Central Scotland and a big fan of Edinburgh. I write young adult urban fantasy and adult contemporary romance. My one tattoo is the symbol for Samurai. I have a thing for fajitas, indie rock music, True Romance (the movie… although there’s nothing wrong with the real thing), The Knife of Never Letting Go, my indie hellcats and Biffy—my new A to B star.

I’m also a little bit random.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Yeah, I’ve definitely always dreamed of being an author but for the longest time I wrote for fun and not really ever believing that I could make a career out of writing. That all changed in 2011 when I found myself unemployed. I decided there was nothing left to lose and put my all into making my dream a reality.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

My typical writing day: breakfast, answer emails, social media comments etc, run errands, lunch, write, dinner, write, break, write, write write… usually into the wee hours of the morning.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

The most challenging part of writing is writer’s block. It’s incredibly frustrating. Not fun. The most rewarding is the response from readers. I receive wonderful emails and comments every day from readers who want to thank me for my writing. That’s amazing and very humbling.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

My latest book is Down London Road, the second book in the On Dublin Street series. It follows the story of Johanna (Jo) Walker and Cameron (Cam) MacCabe. Jo is a young woman who bears the responsibility of looking after her little brother and mother. She is incredibly loyal and determined to make sure Cole has everything she never had, even if it means dating men who have money. There are lots of layers to Jo but she has low self-esteem. That is until Cam enters her life and after a few misunderstandings, attempts to show her that there’s so much more to her than she thinks.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

The idea for Jo’s story was just a seed in On Dublin Street, but after ODS was written Jo seemed like the natural next step. She had such a rich story to tell and it really came from the influences of the people around me. I’m lucky enough to know quietly strong women that have an amazing sense of loyalty and self-sacrifice, and I just wanted to put a heroine like that down on paper and experience the pride of watching her grow into herself.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

My current work in progress is the third book in the On Dublin Street series. More on that to be revealed soon!

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Oh there are lots. Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Cassandra Clare, Patrick Ness, Suzanne Collins, Angela Carter, Colleen Hoover, Stacia Kane, Orson Scott Card, Laini Taylor, Stephanie Perkins, and many, many more…

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Yeah. I love the smooth, easy prose of writers like Richelle Mead and Rachel Caine because it immediately pulls you into the story. It’s authentic and real and relaxed. I strive to emulate that in my own prose.

Open your book to a random page and please reads us a few lines.

“A heads-up.” Cam’s deep voice washed over me. “So you’re not too disappointed that Disney lied—no matter how much you wish it, I’ll still be here when you open your eyes.”

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I’m looking forward to Entwined by You by Sylvia Day. I’ve not read book two in the Crossfire series yet because I’ve been waiting on book three so I wouldn’t have to die of frustration over a rumored cliffhanger.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just a huge thank you to you guys for inviting me on your blog for an interview and also a massive thank you to all my readers for their wonderful support over the last few years. x

DOWN LONDON ROAD

by Samantha Young

Amazon | B&N

Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she’s about to meet someone who will make her lose control….

It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may—or may not—fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets …even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

Interview & Tour Wide Giveaway with Susan Ardens

Books-n-Kisses is excited to have first time guest Susan Arden on the blog today.

Susan, can you please share with us a little about yourself.

I’m not very interesting aside from having a vivid imagination. As a child it kept me company. Now as an adult, it’s like watching a free flowing movie that I have to shut off and attend to the world around me.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Yes. And no. I’m ADHD. To compensate I became a special ed teacher, and in the process learned how to help myself. Structure, structure, structure. But to your question, I was afraid of writing or editing really. I never thought I could write page after page. Now, it seems effortless to reach 60,000 words or 200 type-written pages.

Can you share with us your typical writing day.  Is there anything you have to have while writing?

I wake up before five generally. Feed my LOUD cats, and patient dogs. My husband is still asleep so I write. I do my promos first thing when I’m fresh. Like checking in on tours, get a post up, respond to emails. Then later I’m doing something along the continuum of writing. It’s never just writing. Brainstorming, laying out scenes, the actual writing, researching, editing…some more editing. MORE EDITING.

Most challenging or rewarding part of writing?

Did I mention editing. LOL. I guess you can see I’ve quite the edit-challenged being.

Can you please tell us about your latest book?

Picture Perfect is releasing and it’s a secret baby troupe featuring Carolina (from Tempted by Trouble) cousin, Cynthia “Sam” Cainwright.  Chronologically, it the story precedes Tempted. But things do always work out linearly in the world of publishing.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

In NaNoWriMo I began with the idea of two crazy cousins from Miami. They’re best friends and suffer the loss of a parent.  They’re both half Cuban, half American, and very close. I’m from Miami, and went to bilingual schools. I adore the Cuban culture. Very similar in ways to the Western Romance premise of fierce loyalty and family values.  The heroes are friends, college buddies.

Can you share with us your current work in progress?

There’s always something brewing. A new genre for instance. Erotica. A short series. Naughty Nights and the first book is Taken and will be available in May 2013.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Elizabeth Hoyt, Joyce Carol Oates, Gabriel Marquez, and David Sedaris is my absolute favorite for a laugh.

Do you feel that any of your favorite authors have inspired your writing style?

Definitely. All of them. I think each time a person reads, they are changed. Sometimes  remarkably, others infinitesimal. We see things from a different perspective. The joining together of words stretches the imagination. Reading is also seeing.

Open your book to a random page and tell us what’s happening.

Just opened to page 119. Here’s the summary beginning with Carolina’s question to Matt.

“Yes. What are you thinking?”

“I’m thinking I want every part of you. Every inch of you. You’ll be mine. For one night. Mine. Without reservation. Mine to do with as I wish.”

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Yes. I’m happy to report the second book, Beautiful Stranger from the duo Christina Lauren who wrote Beautiful Bastard.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Only that this has been absolutely delightful being here with you and thank you so much for the invitation to share my inner world. XO

TEMPTED BY TROUBLE Excerpt

“Evermore Ranch,” she read aloud.

“I hope this won’t upset your plans?”

“Would it matter? I signed a service contract that included a non-disclosure agreement. Even if I had a problem, I couldn’t tell a soul and I’ve promised you two weeks of my time.”

He chuckled softly. “Yes, two weeks to do my bidding.”

She almost choked at the thought of doing his bidding. “What the heck have I gotten myself into with you, Mr. McLemore? Exactly what type of office do you run?”

His expression changed. Sharpened. “Strictly business. Look, Dr. Rodriguez, we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot.”

“Wrong foot … the whole body is a problem, sir,” she hissed.

He smiled broadly, reassuring her. “Let’s discuss this later. This isn’t the correct time or place. Don’t you have to help the bride or something?”

“Yes. As a matter of fact, I do. I don’t know what you think you’ve contracted, but I’ll only supply you with vet services. As long as you understand that fact, there’s nothing more to discuss.”

“Well, there is. In the service agreement, there’s a provision that we need to discuss before you’re allowed access to the ranch barn and stable sites. So, either we can do it later or when you arrive in Texas. But until you and I have a little sit-down and get a few things ironed out, there won’t be any work for you to do directly. I’ve got a ranch to run, and I don’t have time to play games. I’ve already spent enough time finding a vet.” His eyes glittered and dropped to her mouth. “If you think I’m about to waste more time because you’ve got second thoughts, Dr. Rodriguez, the next communication you’ll have from Evermore Ranch will be from my attorneys. Had I known who you were before, believe me, I wouldn’t have … I’d never let the situation get away from me.”

Oh, this was rich. “Away from you. I’d say it got out of control. But that’s on your side of the table. Fine. I’ll honor my service contract. You’re right about one thing. The only thing of interest to me is treating your cattle. Once the job is done, I’ll be only too happy to leave you in peace and we can go our separate ways.”

Up close, his eyes shone sherry-colored. A muscle flexed along his jaw. His masculine scent of leather, smoke, and wood filled her head. The hard set of his mouth didn’t resemble the man from before. He’d done just as he’d promised, shutting one door, and leaving in place a man who didn’t look as if he enjoyed playing games. No this version of Matt McLemore had a locking gaze and if looks could kill, she was a goner.

“I’m glad we understand one another then, Dr. Rodriguez. I expect to meet with you tomorrow at your convenience. Our relationship will be strictly business, if that’s what got you in such a dither.”

Interview & Giveaway with Erin McCarthy

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome Erin McCarthy for her first visit to the blog.  We are chatting about picking one book you must read before you die and her newest release TRUE.

Erin, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I’ve been a full time writer for almost ten years now (yay!) and have two almost grown kids, two cats, and a dog.  When I’m not writing, I love live music, martinis, traveling, and randomly moving furniture around in my house.  I love ice cream, beaches, and think fleece is the greatest thing ever invented.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

I wanted to be a writer in the first grade, when I won a writing contest.  But I was informed a career writing fiction was not practical, so I went to college to be a lawyer.  Yeah.  So not for me.

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?

I’m a tweener… somewhere in between.  Plotters plan everything out for the entire book in advance of writing, right down to each individual scene, whereas pantsers create the story as they write.  I have an overall arch for the story figured out ahead of time and a good sense of the characters, with some scenes worked out.  But I don’t use post-its or charts and I don’t have everything figured out.  There are definitely surprises along the way.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I almost never work at my desk.  I write on the couch, the bed, at the kitchen island.  And I chair dance.  A lot.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

TRUE is my first new adult story.  Rory is socially awkward and is just looking to have the same sexual experiences as other girls, only she is not prepared for the feelings she winds up having for Tyler.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

I don’t know, honestly.  I brainstormed about five new adult ideas with a friend and this is the one that came alive and spoke to me.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I am working on a second new adult book, which features the heroine from TRUE’s roommate, Jessica.  Rory and Jessica are total opposites, and while Jessica may have a ton of sexual experience, she has never let a guy into her heart—until now.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet so many fabulous authors!  I’m not sure who else I would chose except for Edgar Allan Poe, and unfortunately yes, I realize he’s dead.  But I am desperately curious to see what he was like in real life.  He would either scare the begeezus out of me or I would fall in love with him.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Read everything you can in the genre you want to write in.  It sounds obvious but it is such an education, plus you need to love to read what you want to write.  Join a writer’s group, like RWA to meet other writers, and do lots of online research about the craft of writing.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

I always wanted to jump out of a plane and this summer I am planning to do that with a friend.  It’s possible I will have a heart attack on the way down, but the box will be ticked!

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

Right now I’m reading Behind the Beautiful Forevers, about life in a slum in Mumbai.  I am in a book club with my friends and it’s been awesome to be exposed to books I would never find on my own.

What is one book everyone should read before they die?

ONE book?!  That’s like picking a favorite child.  It can’t be done. J

What is your favorite time of year & why?

Summer, hands down.  I love the warm weather, I love dining outside, I love gardening.  Winter is too much work.

Who is your Celebrity crush?  And what would you do if you ever meet them?

Right now, I think that the guy who plays Agent Weston on The Following is adorable.  The actor’s name is Shawn Ashmore and if I met him, I would make him monstrously uncomfortable by touching his beard scruff.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks for having me by!

Interview & tour wide giveaway with Jo Davis

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome back the awesome Jo Davis!!!!  We are talking about Bon Jovi (sigh) and her newest release Sworn to Protect: A Sugarland Blue Novel.

Jo, can you please share with us a little about yourself

I’m a multi-published author who currently writes under 2 pen names. I’m a mother of 2 awesome almost-grown kids, and I just bought a new home that we’re having fun decorating.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

For as long as I could hold a pencil, I’ve wanted to write. I’ve been writing stories since the third grade, and I used to sell them for .25 each!

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?

I’m a pantser (punster?) who was forced to become a plotter. A pantser writes “by the seat of his/her pants” and doesn’t always know where the book is going or how it’s going to get there. A plotter does exactly that—he/she plots out the book so she knows where it’s going all the way to the end. I had to become a plotter because I write for a New York publisher. They like to know where the stories are going if they’re going to buy them—they’re funny like that!

What is your most interesting writing quirk?

I don’t know that it’s interesting, but I’m constantly running dialogue in my head, ALL the time. I was in my 30’s before I realized I was the only one I knew who did this. Then I finally found my local romance writer’s chapter and discovered people like me! What a relief. I’m “normal” after all! LoL.

Can you please tell us about your latest book(s)?

The Sugarland Blue series centers on the heroes of the Sugarland Police Department and is about our men in blue, the dangers they face, and the women who love them. The series kicks off with Detective Shane Ford and his long awaited stories. The first one is a novella, Armed and Dangerous, which is a prequel to the series and has some history of Shane and Daisy. It doesn’t have to be read to enjoy the first full-length book, Sworn to Protect: A Sugarland Blue Novel. Here’s a blurb for Sworn:

Detective Shane Ford, Sugarland’s favorite cop, has been blindsided by the sudden death of his best friend, NFL star Brad Cooper, and becoming the legal guardian of Brad’s son, Drew—a bitter, angry sixteen-year-old with a dangerous secret. Shane is determined to pry the truth from Drew, but only manages to alienate him—and winds up going head to head with Juvenile Detective Daisy Callahan, whose job is to protect the teen’s best interests.

Shane has always been drawn to Daisy’s beauty and strength, but he’s determined not to allow their intense attraction to interfere with his duty ever again. It’s a vow that will prove difficult to keep, as the realities of Shane and Daisy’s blossoming love and their growing bond with the grieving teen propel Shane headlong into danger for the new family he’s sworn to protect.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

The Sugarland Blue series is a spinoff of my Firefighters of Station Five. My readers have wanted Shane’s story for years, so I’m happy to be able to give it to them at last!

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

Right now I’m working on HOT PURSUIT, book 2 of the Sugarland Blue series, which is Detective Taylor Kayne’s story. Then I’m going right to work alternating between a 3-part contemporary novella series that’s already in progress, and book 5 of my Alpha Pack series written as J.D. Tyler, COLE’S REDEMPTION.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I’d love to sit down and have a drink with Stephen King someday, and listen to anything he has to say. I think the man is brilliant, and fascinating.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

If you want to sell to a major New York house and/or get an agent, learn the business and your craft. Then keep submitting and don’t give up! You’re going to hear many “no’s” before you get that one “yes” that will change your life. If you want to self-publish, learn the business and hone your writing craft before you put your work out for public consumption. Coca-Cola began life as a cough syrup, if you know what I mean. The Cola-Cola company does NOT sell cough syrup. Whether you’re new or you’ve written 100 books, your work can be improved. Know that and make it the best it can be. I recently wrote an article about this subject on the Writerspace blog called “Self-Publishing: Learn Before You Leap”. Look it up and get some good advice.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list.

Someday I’m going to travel to Italy and Greece. I’m going to dine in quaint villas and drink the world’s best wines. I’m going to see all the awe-inspiring sights. I’m not going to wait much longer, either. Life is much too short.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd installment of the CAPTIVE PRINCE series by S. U. Pacat. Brilliant alternative historical, sweeping romance that is everything a book/series should be—breathtaking, gut-wrenching, and sigh-worthy.

What is one book everyone should read before they die?

That’s a tough question! I guess I’d have to go with my most-read book of all time: WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS by Wilson Rawls. I still have my old copy of the book on my keeper shelf. There’s just something about this book that starts with an old man who lets in a stray dog to warm himself by the fire, which causes the old man to launch into the tale of the most special time in his boyhood, that’s just awesome. To this day, I can’t read the end of that book without bawling.

What is your favorite time of year & why?

The fall is my favorite time, especially October. There’s something I love about the weather turning cool again, being able to sit on my patio beside the warm chiminea pot and veg out. I love that slow, lazy time just before the holiday rush.

Who is your Celebrity crush?  And what would you do if you ever meet them?

Anyone who knows me knows I have to say Jon Bon Jovi! I’d probably freeze up like an idiot and not be able to say a word, in spite of the many calm, sophisticated responses I’ve been over in my brain.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for having me here today! It’s been great to be back!

Lets take a look at the Sugarland Blue series so far.
