Guest blogger: Carrie Ann Ryan + a giveaway

Books-n-Kisses is pleased to welcome our pal Carrie Ann Ryan on the blog today.  We are letting Carrie Ann take over the blog for a bit.  So without further ado.   Take it away Carrie Ann.

What happened to Cinderella and Prince Charming after they rode off into the sunset in that white carriage? I’ve always wanted to know beyond a random Made-for-TV movie or internet MEME where they comment on the fact that the two characters actually didn’t know each other at all…but I digress LOL.

In my Redwood Pack series, I write novellas after each novel that looks into another couple I already wrote about. This hero and heroine already have their HEA (Happy Ever After in case you didn’t know) and are riding into the sunset. But what do they do along the way?

In A Night Away, my first novella, I wrote about Melanie and Kade, the hero and heroine from book 1, An Alpha’s Path. I wanted to see what happened to the pair after they’d had a child. It was one of my favorites only because I got to see Uncle Maddox babysit! It was the first time I’d written in his POV and loved it!

In Blurred Expectations, I wrote about Trinity Bound’s triad, Hannah, Josh, and Reed. The trio oh so wanted a baby, but it just wasn’t happening yet. I wanted to look into that and look into Josh’s military past since their book focused on their future with the Redwood Pack. It was a sad yet emotional novella to write and readers have really fallen in love with this trio!

In Forgiveness, I focused on Adam and Bay. Adam and Bay’s story, Enforcer’s Redemption, was the hardest (before I wrote Fighting Fate that is) book I ever had to write. Adam and Bay had a rough courtship and in the novella, they were parents learning to be a couple at the same time. I also got to introduce a character, Emeline, that surprised me! I hadn’t planned on writing her story until people begged and she wouldn’t get out of my head. So Emeline and Noah’s story will be in DARK FATES, coming out August 12th.

In A Beta’s Haven, I got to go back to Jasper and Willow from A Taste for a Mate. I wanted to see what happened to a couple who had been around since the beginning of the war and look at the toll said war had on them. I shouldn’t have been worried though, Jasper and Willow could make it through anything.

And finally, in Loving the Omega, I got to see my favorite hero. (I know I’m not supposed to choose favorites, but shh!) Maddox and Ellie are probably the most requested couple I have and I honestly have to agree. I love them to pieces. They went through SO much before they even had each other and now they’re in the middle of their happy ending. Only, it’s not so happy due to the aftermath of the war. I wanted to see how they coped and what their daughter, Charlotte, did now that she was part of the Pack.

I truly love writing these after the HEA novellas and I hope you enjoy them!!!

Maddox Jamenson almost lost his mate before he knew she existed, but his life is now exactly how he’d dreamed it. The war with the Centrals is over, and his family is healing one day at a time. Ellie is reveling in the simple perfection that is her life and family now, but that doesn’t mean she can shed the self-doubts and concerns that come with being a new mother, mate, and Redwood.

When a disturbance in their quiet life threatens to ruin everything they’ve fought for, Maddox and Ellie will have to learn not only to rely on each other more than ever, but find within themselves the power to forgive.

Author’s Note: This is a novella set after book 7 to give you a taste of Maddox and Ellie. It is best that you have already immersed yourselves in the Redwood Pack world, however even new readers will enjoy a glimpse of one of the Redwood’s favorite couples.

Excerpt… (used with permission from Carrie Ann Ryan © Carrie Ann Ryan 2014)

The quick, lethal slice of the blade robbed him of breath, and he gasped, clinging to that last thread of life he knew would fade away as he exhaled. Fire scorched down his throat, down his spine. The absence of pain, the absence of agony was a torture in itself. He reached out, begging, screaming until his voice was raw.

It wouldn’t matter though.

It never did.

The darkness surrounded him, clawing, digging its talons into his skin until he bled dry. It was the same thing every time. No matter what he did, he wouldn’t save him. He’d watch him die and lose the connection to the one man who mattered.

He pushed off the enemy and the cloying scent that meant the nothingness had found him and ran through clay and mud to the man who’d fallen, the man who’d been his everything as a child.

“Dad!”

His screams did nothing.

The man fell to the ground, his body burning, turning to ash. There would be no rebirth. No phoenix rising. Only death.

“Maddox! Let go!”

He turned at the sound of his mother’s voice, the pain underlying her terror unbearable. She stood in a ring of fire, a sad smile on her face.

“Let go, baby. Stop fighting.”

Guest blogger Carrie Ann Ryan talks about her new book Fighting Fate

Fighting Fate, as most of you know, ends the story arc that has been throughout the Redwood Pack. I had always planned on ending the series at 7 books with a few more novellas thrown in.

I’m not changing that.

However, that doesn’t mean I need to say goodbye to the world…or the Redwood Pack children.

Tee hee.

Yep. I’m writing the Talon Pack series starting in early 2015. Set thirty years in the future, the Talon Pack will follow the other Pack you’ve seen in the Redwood Pack series. Gideon, the Alpha, will be book 1, Tattered Loyalties.

And who is his mate?

Well, since it’s thirty years in the future and I can’t say goodbye to the Redwoods fully….

Brie is his mate.

Yes, that Brie.

Jasper and Willow’s daughter.

I’m so stinking excited about this. It’s a whole new plot arc meaning you don’t need to read the Redwoods before this one, and we won’t get tired of the same story over and over. Instead, we get to see a new Pack, new abilities, new mates, and new dangers.

I’m so freaking excited about this.

What do you think?

*****

Fighting Fate

Fighting Fate (1)

With her blue-black hair and striking green eyes, Cailin Jamenson is the epitome of beauty and the exemplar of strength. She has fought the enforced boundaries of being the lone Jamenson daughter and Redwood Pack princess, but it is the potential future with the dark wolf in her path that threatens everything she thought she desired.

Logan Anderson’s own darkness provided the reasoning for his abandonment of his former Pack, the Talons. Now, newly accepted into the Redwood Pack, this jade-eyed wolf and all she represents could be his own undoing.

In this final installment of the Redwood Pack, unimaginable tragedy strikes, and the two wolves who have fought the longest for their independence now face the uncertainty of fate and the epic battle that could end the war… and their lives.

Excerpt:

Taking a deep breath, she forced her hands to relax. Instead of beating her annoyingly astute brother up, she patted the scarred side of his cheek, something she hadn’t done in the past because of her fear of hurting him. She’d been an idiot, and the lack of touch had only pulled him deeper into himself, away from his family and those that loved him. Now she tried to make sure he knew that she loved him, scars and all.

“Thank you, big brother, but I will not cower.” She refused to. There would be no hiding from the wolf that haunted her dreams…and now her days. She might not want to deal with it, but she wouldn’t run away with her tail tucked between her legs. That wasn’t who she’d been her entire life, and she wouldn’t resort to becoming that person now.

Maddox raised a dark blond brow. “If you won’t let me beat Logan up, or at least maim him a bit, then you’ll have to do something about him.”

REVIEW:
We finally get the Princess of the Redwood Pack’s story. Cailin has been a long time favorite of mine. Maybe because she is standoffish, maybe because she is tough, or maybe it is because what Fate has in store for her might just save them all. Only problem is that Cailin is stubborn, tough, and standoffish that she just might lose out on what is most important.

This was really good way to end the Redwood Pack series, although it looks like there might be a novella here an there still to come. If you have not read any of the Redwood Pack books you need to start from the beginning. There is to much history in each book and to much interconnected events that reading Fighting Fate first would be a huge mistake.

I will warn you that if you can make it through chapter 2 you may be golden. There is a few Oh My GOD moments that left me speechless.

Looking forward to what Carrie Ann has in store for the Talon Pack.

As the youngest son of Lucifer, Fawkes has long since known what paths his future could take. He could follow his father’s footsteps, stealing the souls of humans and slowly lose his own, or starve himself and wither away until he finds his true half and forms a bond that can not only save his life, but his soul.

Leslie Masterson’s life has been one torment after another. A submissive wolf, she’s tried to hide in the shadows of her Pack and find the will to live another day. After her brother—the man who has beaten her verbally and physically her entire life—is killed when he challenges the Alpha, Leslie finally sees a path to freedom.

It only takes one look between the two for them to know that they could be the answer to each other’s prayers, but some of the Pack isn’t ready to let Leslie go. It will take the strength of a fiery demon from hell and the love of a submissive wolf to overcome not only their past, but their chance at a future.

His Choice was also found in the Ever After Anthology.

REVIEW:
A Dragon shifter who has waiting 10,000 years for his mates.
A Bear shifter who is finally home and ready to claim what is his.
And a not so human female that will forever tie them together.

This was a good story, although maybe not a great as I would have like. There was something just a bit off for me. I don’t know what really. It is just in the past I have held Dante up on a very high pedestal and I didn’t feel the same connection with him in this book. It was not until the end of the book that I felt we had the old Dante back. So maybe it was just a case of him having to be way too serious in this book.
Jace the sweet tough bear shifter was fun to get to know better. But Jace sure goes through a lot in this book. It was great to see that Nadie finally get a little happiness. Overall this was a good continuation in the Dante’s Circle series and sets up perfectly for the next book (Faith & Levi)

Shepard Montgomery loves the feel of a needle in his hands, the ink that he lays on another, and the thrill he gets when his art is finished, appreciated, and loved. At least that’s the way it used to be. Now he’s struggling to figure out why he’s a tattoo artist at all as he wades through the college frat boys and tourists who just want a thrill, not a permanent reminder of their trip. Once he sees the Ice Princess walk through Midnight Ink’s doors though, he knows he might just have found the inspiration he needs.

Shea Little has spent her life listening to her family’s desires. She went to the best schools, participated in the most proper of social events, and almost married the man her family wanted for her. When she ran from that and found a job she actually likes, she thought she’d rebelled enough. Now though, she wants one more thing—only Shepard stands in the way. She’ll not only have to let him learn more about her in order to get inked, but find out what it means to be truly free.

This is the prequel to the Montgomery Ink series. It is also found in the Midnight Ink Bundle.

This was a short and sweet novella that give us a look at one of the favorite couples of the Redwood Pack series. I enjoyed this story but I think little Brie stole the show for me. She is too cute.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts We fell in love with Sassy in Midnight Ink. But what did we really know about her other then she was the feisty, ever changing her hair color, tattooed receptionist of the Midnight Ink tattoo parlor. She makes a mean pot of coffee. Well in Ink Reunited we get a little glimpse into who Sassy is and what has happened in her past to mold her into the woman she is today.

Sassy has a few skeletons in her closet that just happen to have walked back into her life. She has two choice stand & fight or turn & run.

This was a very quick and spicy read. I really enjoyed reading about Sassy, Rafe & Ian. I really hope there will be more of these three in the future. There were a few unresolved problems at the end of this book 🙂

He’s watched his brothers find their mates and start families, and now it was his turn. He knows Lexi could be his and her son could be part of his family, but he doesn’t know if he’s ready to share the darkness that’s entwined with his soul.

REVIEW:
North knows he is loved by his family, but there is something dark in him that stirs that scares him. The one person that could possible help him control this darkness wants nothing to do with him. But North is not giving up on Lexi and will not let fate take her away from him, no matter what price he has to pay.

Lexi has finally found a place she can call home for herself, her son and her brother. But there is still a lot of tension coming from the other packmates. But the biggest issue that Lexi is facing is North. Her mate. Yet she can’t give him what they both want so badly.

North & Lexi have a huge uphill battle on their hands. The only want to win this battle is to trust each other and the new family that Lexi has now. But will it be enough?

Another really good story from Carrie Ann Ryan. I really enjoyed North & Lexi’s books. I am so glad that these two got a happy ending, kind of. Want to know what I mean by that you will just have to pick up a copy of Hidden Destiny to find out.
