SERIES #: Dark Kings #2
CHARACTERS: Tristan & Samantha “Sammi” Miller
AUTHOR: Donna Grant
PUBLICATION DATE: June 3, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Tristan, the newest Dragon King, is having a tough time fitting in. Despite his ability to transform into a proud, strong dragon at will, no one knows where he came from or how he became a Dragon King, including himself. When trouble arises in the form of the mob, Tristan is going to have to put aside his questions and band with the other Dragon Kings to protect Dreagan. As if things weren’t complicated enough, he is about to find something worth fighting for more important than the Dragon Kings…

Sammie Miller, pub owner in Oban, has been scorned by her business partner—and former lover. Used as a front for money laundering with the mob, Sammie is in great danger once she realizes what has happened. Barely escaping, she plans to rest at Dreagan for only a day before going back on the run. When Tristan swears to protect her, Sammie thinks his efforts will be in vain—the mob is too powerful, and it will take more than the average man’s devotion to keep her safe. But the closer she gets to Tristan, and the more he learns his secrets, Sammie can’t deny that having a Dragon King who worships you, body and soul, isn’t such a bad thing…

REVIEW:
Is it wrong for me to want all the Dark Fae to die horrible slow deaths? I get a huge case of anxiety whenever I read about them. Fire Rising kinds followed a very similar plot line as Darkest Flame yet it was still a good story. I loved Tristan, yet at the same time I want to slap him upside the head. Boy, you need to learn about your past and deal with it in order to have a future. Geesh. Sammi is tough yet at the same time she is not. She has lived through a lot and that has made her harden her heart. Of course it takes a life and death matter to make her open her eyes. Silly girl.

All and all this was a good book. I love all the character that were involved in this mission. And I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I believe Kiril’s books is going to be a wild ride.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
From the bestselling author of Changeling Moon, this thrilling and sensual novel adds a new chapter to Dani Harper’s Celtic folklore–themed Grim Series.

Kidnapped on his wedding day in the twelfth century and forced into a thousand years of servitude by a cold-hearted faery princess, rugged blacksmith Aidan dreams of nothing but revenge on his captor. Then the spell of a beautiful witch awakens him to the present day—and a passionate desire. But to build a future, he must first confront his past…

Modern witch and magic-shop owner Brooke doesn’t think her life is missing anything, until a wayward enchantment lands a brooding medieval blacksmith in her spell room—and in her arms. Yet even after their passion proves to be truly magical, Aidan’s first commitment is to vengeance. Now Brooke must team up with friends and ancient warriors alike—and push her own powers to their limits—to save her love from the wrath of an evil fae.

REVIEW:
I had the pleasure reading this book and also getting to listen to on audio. I just could not pass up the chance to have Justine Eyre read to me. This was a good second book in Dani’s Grim series. I really enjoyed all the magic and Welsh mythology in the series. But there were parts that were a little slow for me. I felt that the book started off really good then it slowed down a bit. Right up until Brooke meets Aidan.
I really enjoyed Brooke and Aidan’s relationship and the connection that they have. Brooke’s cat’s really tried to steal the show with their demanding ways 🙂 .
All in all this was a good book and I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I wonder who it could be? Maybe a certain Lord of the Hunt?

Then Came YouTITLE: Then Came You
SERIES #: Animal Magnetism #5
CHARACTERS: Wyatt Stone & Emily
AUTHOR: Jill Shalvis
PUBLICATION DATE: July 1, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.
Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans…

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts I just have to say that I am SO in love with Jill Shalvis and her books.

Then Came You is book 5 in her Animal Magnetism series and I am so in love with Wyatt.
Who doesn’t love a hottie in glasses that is good with animals and even better with people. That is until it comes to the people he wants in his life. Wyatt’s biggest weakness is his fear of not letting people have their own choices when in reality telling someone how you feel will make all the difference in the world about their decisions.

Emily is feisty almost to a fault. Emily lives by the rule of “I must always have a plan” but you know what they say about the best laid plans right??? I did truly enjoy watching her walls slowly crack and tumble down as she learns what real life is about.
I really enjoyed these two even if at times I wanted to slap them both. I think that a certain Parrot, a new puppy and turtle did try to steal the show at times. But both Wyatt & Emily stole the cake and my heart.

If you are a fan of Ms. Shalvis you will love this book. It is classic Jill Shalvis funny, heartbreaking, laugh out loud, sexy, horn honking, tension filled makes you want to keep turning the page reading story. So make sure you get your copy and find out why Sunshine Idaho is so nice.

And it’s likely to tear them apart. Because it was Brendan’s late wife, Jessie—and Lucy’s best friend—who’d brought them together in the first place. She’s always been trouble with a capital T.

Lucy couldn’t wait to shed her small-town roots for the big city. But now that she’s back in Hope’s Crossing to take care of the Queen Anne home her late aunt has left her, she figures seeing Brendan Caine again is no big deal. After all, she’d managed to resist the handsome fire chief once before, but clearly the embers of their attraction are still smoldering…

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts A very sweet read. It took a little while for me to get interested in this book. Maybe because the two characters didn’t connect o a romantic level since they had been adversaries or maybe it was just written for them to need time but either way it took me awhile. But once the connection had been done I really enjoyed it. There was still a bit of uncertainty between them but it enhanced the story.

I really enjoyed the background characters especially the kids, Faith and Carter. They are so sweet and every time they come in contact with someone the sweetness just comes out. I even liked Crystal when she came into the picture.

While part of a series you can read this as a stand alone without any hesitation. Looking forward to the next in the series… Maybe Aidan’s story?

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
After a family tragedy, former football hero Jack McGarry keeps the world at arm’s length—a challenge now that his PR firm has moved to neighborly Fool’s Gold, California.

Larissa Owens knows where she stands—Jack sees her as just another one of the guys. No matter what her heart wishes, Jack’s her boss, not her boyfriend. But then Larissa’s big secret is revealed…by her mother!

When Jack discovers the truth about Larissa’s feelings, her touch suddenly becomes tantalizing, and he’s not sure he wants to resist. But if he gives in to desire, heartache is sure to follow. Friendship or true love—will Jack go for the ultimate play?

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts In Until We Touch we get to learn a little more about Mr. Jack McGarry. Jack, well for a better word is a bit of an asshat once we get to know him better. I was so mad at him through this book. It is a good thing that you can’t reach into books and slap the characters around. The problem with Jack is that his past has form who he is today. And sadly I could not hold that against him. But I still think everyone should make him sweat it out more 🙂

Larissa is so sweet, shy and has such a big heart that she can’t see that the person that needs the most rescuing in her life is herself. But it is fun to watch her run around and save all of these animals. Sadly it is going to take some major heartbreak for Larissa to finally realize the errors of her ways.
As always Susan does a great job of sucking me back into the Fool’s Gold world. If you are a Fool’s Gold fan you will really enjoy Jack & Larissa’s story. If you are new to this series no worried you can read this as a stand alone, but be warned once you step foot into Fool’s Gold you my never want to leave.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts I think I say this with every Fool’s Gold review but reading this series is like coming home to a town filled with family and friends. I love everything about Fool’s Gold from freaky Mayor Marsha to Jo’s odd bar to the latest couple to fall in love. There is something special about this place and about the author who writes it. Susan Mallery is the best in the contemporary romance genre and reading any one of her books will have you working your way through them all.

Now on to Jack and Larissa. We all knew from the beginning of the football heroes trilogy that they would end up together but we didn’t know how and I doubt any of us thought it would be a meddling mom who started it all but we are so glad she did. Once the seed is planted in the minds of Jack and Larissa that there is love between them there is no stopping the seed growing into a forest of trouble. Jack and Larissa are ying and yang to each other. They complement each other perfectly and are just meant to be. I also love the relationship that Jack has with Tayrn. There is something special between them that is separate from romance and it works. But the best relationship is the bro-mance between Jack, Sam and Kenny. With each summer trilogy there are three men but something about these three is a bond that is so everlasting it rivals all others. I can’t wait to watch Kenny and Bailey fall in love this Christmas and I know Chloe will be a delight to read.

AUTHOR: Robyn Carr
PUBLICATION DATE: 06/24/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Scott Grant has a bustling family practice in the small Oregon community of Thunder Point. The town and its people have embraced the widowed doctor and father of two, his children are thriving, and Scott knows it’s time to move on from his loss. But as the town’s only doctor, the dating scene is awkward. That is, until a stunning physician’s assistant applies for a job at his clinic.

Peyton Lacoumette considers herself entirely out of the dating scene. She’s already been burned by a man with kids, and she’s come to Thunder Point determined not to repeat past mistakes. When Scott offers her a job, at a much lower salary than she’s used to, Peyton is surprisingly eager to accept…at least for now. She’s willing to stay for a three-month trial period while she explores other options.

Scott and Peyton know the arrangement is temporary—it isn’t enough time to build a real relationship, never mind anything with lasting commitment. But love can blossom faster than you think when the timing is right, and this short visit just might hold the promise of forever.

REVIEW:

Another lovely visit to Thunder Point and this time we get to spend time with Dr Scott. Scott is a great guy who is just too sweet for words and has adorable children and any woman would want to fall in love with him and I am thrilled that he got his happily ever after. Peyton is an interesting choice for Scott. They mesh so well but seem to be in such different worlds. And Peyton’s family is a hoot. I also enjoyed catching up with past couples from the series.

There was a little too much talk of Peyton’s ex and rehashing of the circumstances but the story is great. I would have liked a little less of the rehash and a bit more at the end. I would love to have known what the kids thought of Scott and Peyton together. But I am sure we will get more of their story as we visit Thunder Point with the next couple. I wonder who that will be? I can’t wait to read it and find out!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
“Outrageous, profane, hilarious, sexy and all kinds of wacky!” –Michelle Rowen, national bestselling author
When you get time off for bad behavior, romance is the last thing on your mind–but good old-fashioned lust is a whole different story. . .
Life undercover isn’t exactly one big party–not when you’re a DEA agent–but it sure beats a desk job. Except when you screw up big and someone has to go in and clean up after you. In that case, even paper-pushing sounds better than babysitting an erotic romance writer with as many enemies as there are euphemisms for “throbbing manhood.”
I’ve been taking down drug dealers for so long, playing bodyguard to a woman named Shoshanna Lehump sounds like nothing more than a giant pain in my ass– and being partnered with the gorgeous egotistical jerk I never should have slept with in the first place just makes a bad situation even harder–especially when he pursues me as diligently as we’re supposed to be chasing the bad guys…What’s a girl have to do to get a happy ending anyway?
“For a good time, read Robyn Peterman!” –Michelle Rowen, national bestselling author
“A zany over-the-top rompfest.” –Lexi George, author of Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Cop a Feel brings us back into the fun world of Handcuffs & Happily Ever Afters. We get a closer look at Mitch’s sister and what makes her tick. Candy is a hard nose DEA agent with a weee-bit of bad luck when it comes to her job. Oh she gets the job done, but at great peril to herself. When her final mission almost kills her, her boss takes action and puts her on body guard duty. Only problem this is not your normal body guard duty. And to make matters worse Candy’s ummmm, new partner will be tagging along.

Luke has been a out of touch for a very long time. The only thing that makes him feel grounded are his night with a certain pretty girl. But when that certain pretty girl tells him to go fly a kite and that they are done something in Luke snaps. A plan snaps into place to make a certain pretty girl his forever.

I truly loved Luke & Candy’s story. I just loved everything about these two and their adventure. And once again Ms. Peterman had me laughing, crying and begging for more. Robyn’s mind is a scary place to live with the crazy cast of characters that rule her brain. But I don’t think that I would have it any other way. I am truly amazed at the level that some of her characters go to. They are so very OUT there. 🙂 But they are so much fun and that you will need some tissues for the tears and possible a set of depends to save you from laughing so hard.

I did hear a disturbing rumor that this may be the last Handcuffs & Happily Ever Afters book. I am hoping that this not true and Kensington will force, I mean ask Ms. Peterman to continue this series 🙂

Kimberly reviews The Glass Kitchen by Linda Francis Lee

Glass KitchenTITLE: The Glass Kitchen
CHARACTERS: Portia & Gabriel
AUTHOR: Linda Francis Lee
PUBLICATION DATE: 06/17/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
With the glass kitchen, Linda Francis Lee has served up a novel that is about the courage it takes to follow your heart and be yourself. A true recipe for life.
Portia Cuthcart never intended to leave Texas. Her dream was to run the Glass Kitchen restaurant her grandmother built decades ago. But after a string of betrayals and the loss of her legacy, Portia is determined to start a new life with her sisters in Manhattan . . . and never cook again. But when she moves into a dilapidated brownstone on the Upper West Side, she meets twelve-year-old Ariel and her widowed father Gabriel, a man with his hands full trying to raise two daughters on his own. Soon, a promise made to her sisters forces Portia back into a world of magical food and swirling emotions, where she must confront everything she has been running from. What seems so simple on the surface is anything but when long-held secrets are revealed, rivalries exposed, and the promise of new love stirs to life like chocolate mixing with cream. The Glass Kitchen is a delicious novel, a tempestuous story of a woman washed up on the shores of Manhattan who discovers that a kitchen—like an island—can be a refuge, if only she has the courage to give in to the pull of love, the power of forgiveness, and accept the complications of what it means to be family.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts I really enjoyed this story. There is something that pulls you in from page one. While contemporary the special talent Portia has adds a delightful spin. Portia is such a fascinating character. She is someone you want to be friends will. The feelings of guilt, love and longing is palpable. Gabriel is so hard-edged but yet something is so sweet about him. They are so perfectly matched.

The character of Ariel is such a complement to this story. I really enjoyed how the story was told from the viewpoints of Portia and Ariel and not Gabriel. It really added something to the story this way. Ariel is such a smart little girl who is trying so hard not to be invisible to everyone that she sometimes becomes lost to herself.

I honestly can’t imagine someone not enjoying this story. The writing is so well done and it is so relatable to women. It is just a feel good story perfect for a summer read.

Every second counts in a kidnapping case, and the stakes keep rising the longer Henley stays missing. As Ava and Mason struggle to hold the Fairbanks family together in their darkest hour, the two investigators find themselves more and more drawn to each other.

REVIEW:
Wow this story was pretty heartbreakingly good story. Ms. Elliott does an amazing job of bring her characters to life. If you are from Oregon there are a few references in this book that will make you cry just because you know the reality of Vanished storyline. But Vanished has so many different levels to this story and not all is as it seems.

I tried to think of a way to summarize this book, but I could not think of a good way to do it without giving something away so you get nothing :-). This just means that you need to read this book for yourself.

If you are a fan of Kendra’s you will enjoy Vanished. If you are new to The Bone Secret series never fear each book can be read as a stand alone with no problems. Make sure to add this one to your buy list.

Nevada Hamilton has learned a few things since becoming a Sin City Collector, and staying away from vampires is one of them. After botching her first Collection, the vamp getting away after causing as much damage as possible, she hasn’t been assigned to another one since.

But when she receives her next playing card, she’s in for a surprise. Not only is a vampire her next target, but they’ve paired her up to make sure she gets the job done right. Refusing a Collection is not an option, but when she discovers who she’s working with, making the mission as difficult as possible for her new partner becomes top priority…

Being a hellhound isn’t enough to protect Jake Troubadour from Nevada Hamilton, no matter how thick his skin is. Finding out he has to work with the beautiful dhampir, after not seeing her for three years, is a low blow–but Jake is a professional. He takes his Collections as seriously as he does running his bar. He’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done, but after that, he’s out. No more chances for the girl who wrecked his bike and scarred his soul so long ago. But even with his heart dead set against it, this hellhound quickly finds he’s not immune to love after all.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts I’ve been a big fan of Ms. Carlson’s Jessica McClain series and I jumped at the chance to read her new Sin City Collectors series. Right off the bat, we are introduced to Nevada “Neve” Hamilton who works for the Collectors, bringing in supernatural beings like a paranormal bounty hunter. Neve usually works on her own because she hasn’t needed anyone to help her because she has supernatural skills, she’s a dhampir. Her next assignment is to bring in a vampire and they have paired her with the worst person possible, Jake Troubadour. Jake runs a bar in Las Vegas, is one of the few hellhounds in existence and the one man that Neve has a complicated romantic history with. The only thing is that this assignment will challenge them like never before and have them facing romantic feelings about each other that they have been trying to deny.

I think that this is going to be one of my new favorites because I loved Neve and Jake together in this story. Neve and Jake have been trying to deny what happened between them three years ago and every time that they are together sparks fly. Neve is very independent and has spent most of her life doing things on her own. She doesn’t know much about her past and there hasn’t been anyone in her life to teach her about her dhampir side. She has always been drawn to Jake in the past and can’t understand why she has a hard time resisting him. For Jake, Neve is the one that got away. He has always had feelings for her and thought that she had felt the same toward him even though she turned her back on him after that night. This is the one chance to make things right and he will do whatever he has to do to protect her on this assignment.

Aces Wild is an action-packed thrill ride with enough sexual chemistry to make your heart race. I loved seeing Neve and Jake as a couple and this story provided some answers regarding Neve’s mysterious past. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella about the Sin City Collectors and this series shows a lot of promise. The next book in the series is Ante Up and I’m looking forward to learning more about these characters and their adventures as supernatural collectors.

Fury: Book 1 of The Cure by Charlotte McConaghy

348 pages,

Published March 25th, 2014 by Momentum Books, Pan Macmillan

In the tradition of Divergent comes a novel about a world where negative emotions are stolen … and only those with fury can stand up and fight.

Eighteen-year-old Josephine Luquet wakes naked and covered in blood that is not hers on the same day every year—when the blood moon is full. Josi has not responded to the “Cure”—an immunization against anger mandated by the government—and believes herself to be a threat to others.

Then she meets Luke. Luke has had the Cure but seems different to the other “drones”—and he’s dead set on helping Josi discover the truth about herself before the next blood moon.

But time is running out. Is Luke willing to risk his life to be near her? Does he truly understand what violence she is capable of?

Raw and full of passion, Fury is a story of love in a dystopian world, and how much we are willing to forgive in the struggle to remember our humanity.

Jennifer’s Review of Fury

Review (4 Stars):  I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book.  When I first read the synopsis for Fury, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but this book really caught my attention.  Josephine Luquet is a young woman who hasn’t responded to the Cure, an immunization that strips away the feelings of anger or aggression among the human population. She believes that she is dangerous because of this and that she has killed before. She has found herself naked in the past, covered in blood with no recollection about the events that have transpired from the night before.  This only happens on the night of the Blood Moon which is rapidly approaching and Josi is afraid of what she may do next.

I liked the main character, Josi, and enjoyed reading the story mainly from her perspective.  This book tells the story of Josi from alternating points of view which include Luke, a mysterious stranger that Josi doesn’t want to talk about and Anthony, the therapist that is trying to help Josi by discussing her past. This book had me from the very beginning trying to decipher the pieces of Josi’s situation and determining how much of the story was the truth or just a figment of her imagination. I will warn you that this book ends on a cliffhanger but makes you more determined to read the next book in the series to see what happens next to these characters.

Fighting FateTITLE: Fighting Fate
SERIES #: Redwood Pack#7
CHARACTERS: Logan Anderson & Cailin Jamenson
AUTHOR: Carrie Ann Ryan
PUBLICATION DATE: June 10, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon │ Barnes & Noble │ ARe │ Kobo │ iTunes

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
With her blue-black hair and striking green eyes, Cailin Jamenson is the epitome of beauty and the exemplar of strength. She has fought the enforced boundaries of being the lone Jamenson daughter and Redwood Pack princess, but it is the potential future with the dark wolf in her path that threatens everything she thought she desired.
Logan Anderson’s own darkness provided the reasoning for his abandonment of his former Pack, the Talons. Now, newly accepted into the Redwood Pack, this jade-eyed wolf and all she represents could be his own undoing.
In this final installment of the Redwood Pack, unimaginable tragedy strikes, and the two wolves who have fought the longest for their independence now face the uncertainty of fate and the epic battle that could end the war… and their lives.

REVIEW:
We finally get the Princess of the Redwood Pack’s story. Cailin has been a long time favorite of mine. Maybe because she is standoffish, maybe because she is tough, or maybe it is because what Fate has in store for her might just save them all. Only problem is that Cailin is stubborn, tough, and standoffish that she just might lose out on what is most important.

This was really good way to end the Redwood Pack series, although it looks like there might be a novella here an there still to come. If you have not read any of the Redwood Pack books you need to start from the beginning. There is to much history in each book and to much interconnected events that reading Fighting Fate first would be a huge mistake.

I will warn you that if you can make it through chapter 2 you may be golden. There is a few Oh My GOD moments that left me speechless.

Looking forward to what Carrie Ann has in store for the Talon Pack.
