John Loughlin is a man that prides himself on always being prepared. So when he sets up a meeting with one very foxy Cree Forest, John thinks he has it all worked out. But unfortunately or maybe fortunately for John things don’t go according to plan.

Oh this story was way too short!!! I want more of John & Cree. I hope that by releasing this novella it means that John will be getting a full length novel soon and a very happy HEA!

If you have read the first 2 books in the X-Ops series you will love this short novella and glimpse into John’s life. If you are new to this series feel free to start with either the novella or book 1.

Kimberly reviews Make Me Lose Control by Christie Ridgway

make me lose controlTITLE: Make Me Lose Control
SERIES #: Cabin Fever #2
CHARACTERS: Shay & Jace
AUTHOR: Christie Ridgway
PUBLICATION DATE: 12/30/14
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
USA Today bestselling author Christie Ridgway returns to Blue Arrow Lake with the dazzling story of opposites attracting in the rustic mountains of California.

As live-in tutor to a headstrong teen, Shay Walker has her hands full—and the girl’s absentee father doesn’t help matters, either. All Shay wants is to let loose and indulge in a birthday fling with the hottest stranger who’s ever caught her eye. But her one-night stand turns out to be Jace Jennings, her student’s long-distance dad…and now he’s taking up residence—at his lakeside estate and in Shay’s most secret fantasies.

Jace isn’t exactly a family man, but he’s determined to do his best by his daughter—and the first step is forgetting how hot he is for her teacher. But close proximity and their heated connection keeps Shay at the forefront of his mind—even as it’s obvious she holds her heart in check. So does Jace. Until they both realize that losing control just might mean finding forever.

REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts So many romances have the broken hero/heroine who has dealt with so much in their past and they are working at moving beyond. Well this has the heroine doing the same but the difference is most of this is in her own mind. Shay sees herself as an outsider in her own family because her mom had an affair and she does not share the same father as the others but the family doesn’t see her this way at all but Shay can’t get past it. She also blames herself for her dad’s death but again no one else does. These are both in her own mind and heart. So how does she get past something that no one else can understand?

Jace had a bad childhood himself. Mostly his dad never taught him how to love. So when he spends 10 years away from his daughter and then needs to come back into her life he doesn’t know how. And really doesn’t know how to understand Shay and his feeling for her. And then there is London who is dealing with her own issues as a 15 year old girl and her first crush.

I enjoyed this story very much. I liked the way the characters were written. I enjoyed the family in the background. Seeing Ryan and Poppy from the first book in the series was great too. I really enjoyed the epilogue. You do not need to have read the first in the series but you will know you missed their story but it will not take away from this one. I have read all of Ridgway’s books and this one ranks really high for me. You will enjoy it if you give it a try.

Kelly & Kimberly review Blood Assassin by Alexandra Ivy

blood assassinTITLE: Blood Assassin
SERIES #: The Sentinels
CHARACTERS: Fane & Serra
AUTHOR: Alexandra Ivy
PUBLICATION DATE: December 30, 2014
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
They are the outcasts of humanity. Blessed with power. Cursed by fate. Driven by passion. The Sentinels have returned. . .

Out Of The Shadows

At six-foot-three and two-hundred-fifty pounds, Fane is a natural born guardian. A flawless mix of muscled perfection and steely precision, he has devoted years of his life to protecting a beautiful necromancer. But after she found love in the arms of another, Fane has been a warrior adrift. He swears allegiance only to the Sentinels. And no woman will ever rule his heart again. . .

Into The Fire

Not only a powerful psychic, Serra is that rare telepath who can connect to minds through objects. When the daughter of a high-blood businessman is kidnapped, Serra agrees to help. But when she stumbles onto a conspiracy involving secrets sects and ancient relics, her life is in mortal danger–and Fane is her only hope. Is the warrior willing to risk his body, his soul, and his heart, for Serra? Or will one last betrayal destroy them both?

KELLY’S REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Another good book in Ms. Ivy’s ‘The Sentinels’ series. Really like Fane & Serra relationship and I enjoyed the story for the most part. But it was a bite of a cat and mouse game for most of the book. It seems that Fane & Serra were never going to solve the mystery of who kidnapped Molly.

Not sure I like Bas at all, but was willing to do anything to keep Molly safe. So I guess you could like that about him. As the story went on I found myself liking him just a little bit more and in the epilogue I almost cried. Poor Bas.

Lana (The Mave) and Wolfe were a nice little side story. Really like Lana & Wolfe, I hope these two become an item.

Overall this book was a tad bit different then book one but it was still good. Blood Assassin added a new element to the Sentinel world. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Ok so here is the thing. I enjoyed this story for the most part but some things about it just didn’t add up. First the good. I enjoyed the connection between Fane and Serra. Even from the last book we knew they were attracted to each other and Fane was holding off so it was great to see them come together. Bas… well Bas is an interesting character who at first seemed like a jerk and then we realize he is just a dad wanting his baby back (that is in the synopsis so it is not a spoiler) so you give him some slack because come on what dad wouldn’t go to any lengths they had available to get his baby back? And the Mave and Wolfe. Well lets just say they need their own story or at least a novella.

But now the other side of things. First Fane does a 180 so quickly that it makes his “no Serra rule” just seem crazy. I mean he is alone with her for 2 seconds and all of a sudden he realizes he can’t live without her? And here is Serra’s dream coming true after everything and she just says “ok sure no problem”? I mean wouldn’t she question his turn? Ok maybe she does for a moment but not too long. Then the baby kidnapping story goes on wayyyyyy too long. I mean sheesh we didn’t need a walk through of every house that Serra needed to look for Molly at. Then I can’t even tell you how many times this Sentinel and psychic screw up. How many times they let someone get the jump on them or the “psychic” doesn’t see what is going on. I mean sheesh it is like they left Valhalla and lost their strengths. And finally the cover is just terrible. Yeah I know that had nothing to do with the storyline but it has to be said. Who designed that cover? Neither one of the characters look good.

Ok so yes there is a bunch just not right with this story but all in all it is a good story. It leads us to the next book which is Bas’ story and that sounds like it might be interesting. Am I jumping up and down over this story? No but I am looking forward to continuing the series.

Warning: Blackmailing a stubborn, hot-tempered artist into bed, and an ex-Marine who has a penchant for taking pictures. Yeah, those kinds of pictures

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Revenge: Is a dish best served cold.
Well not if you are Maya Werner. Maya’s idea of revenge is to get hot and heavy with the very hot Dexter Black. It is only fair you see. Dexter blackmailed her into a date 12 years ago and he has done the same thing again now. But unfortunately for Maya, Dex is not going to let her go this time. This time is he prepared for her and so called revenge.
LOVED this book. Served Hot is the second book in Marie Harte’s Best Revenge series. If you have not read book on Served Cold you really should start there (but you don’t have to, but I would and did). In Served Hot we get to see how Maya part of the Terrible Trio handles her nemesis. And boy howdy does she handle him well. This was a really fun and quick read. I loved Dexter when we met him in book 1 and loved him even more in Served Hot. I am so very glad that I found Marie and her yummy books. I so can’t wait for the last book in this trilogy Served Sweet.

Kelly reviews Hot Blooded by Donna Grant

hot bloodedTITLE: Hot Blooded

CHARACTERS: Laith & Iona Campbell
AUTHOR: Donna Grant

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The Dark Kings soldier on in their fight to preserve their dragon magic. But eternal doom is always close behind…

SWORN TO PROTECT

His name is Laith. To most, he’s known as the owner of a local pub near Dreagan. But little do his patrons know that beneath his handsome, charming exterior Laith has the heart and soul of a Dragon King—one who wields control by keeping his friends close and his enemies, just across the border, closer. Until a mysterious stranger enters the picture, and sets his whole world off course…

DRIVEN TO DESIRE

Iona is a woman with a mission: To learn the truth about her dead father. She’s returned to Scotland only to learn that she’s part of an ancient pact with Dreagan—one that will threaten the fragile peace with the Dragon Kings. Gorgeous, sly Iona isn’t like anyone Laith has ever met before . . . and she harbors a secret that others would kill to possess. Will she complete him—or destroy him? Passion always comes with a price.

REVIEW:
In Hot Blooded The Kings have to deal with the death of their neighbor. John Campbell was more than just a neighbor he was a friend and the keeper of something very important to The Kings.
With the death of her father Iona Campbell has inherited the family land. But along with that comes some very interesting rules and people.

Another great Dark King novella. I was very happy that this story took a different path than the prior book. It was great to see all the Dragon Kings working together. It was great to see The Warriors getting along and working side by side with The Kings. Liath and Iona are great together. I am already looking forward to seeing them both in future books. There were a few heartbreaking parts in this book too. I know that Ms. Grant will make these right at some point in time, but like any good (evil) author she needs to torture us just a little. 😀
Can’t wait for the next Dark King novel.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

As the friends discover their heightened senses and animal-quick reflexes, they must combine their scientific curiosity with their newfound physical gifts to solve a cold-case murder that has suddenly become very hot if they can stay alive long enough to catch the killer’s scent.

Fortunately, they are now more than friends. They’re a pack. They are Virals

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts This is the first book in the Virals series by Kathy Reichs. This series tells the story of Tory Brennan – niece to famous forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan – and her friends Ben, Hiram and Shelton. These four are best friends who live on a secluded island and their parent’s work in a research facility. They are curious by nature and get into all kinds of trouble together. When an accidental discovery turns into a life or death situation their worlds change forever. I really enjoyed this story. Tory and her friends are a great group of kids to follow and are incredibly resourceful and courageous. The ending of the story came as a surprise to me, I didn’t see a lot of it coming – which is good. The writing is solid, comical and compelling. Once I got into it, I couldn’t put the book down. These kids are wild and the situations they get into are so crazy you have to keep reading to see how they’ll get out of it. There are many other books in the series and I’m just getting started.

Kelly & Natasha review Masters Of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle

master of pleasureTITLE: Masters of Pleasure
SERIES #: School of Gallantry #5
CHARACTERS: Malcolm Thayer & Leona Webster
AUTHOR: Delilah Marvelle
PUBLICATION DATE: November 28, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The greatest divide between a man and a woman is not the one society sets before them but the one they set before themselves…

After Miss Leona Olivia Webster had allowed herself to fall in love with a dashing childhood friend who had left her scorned and pregnant, she is done chasing her happily-ever-after. Shunned by society, she dedicates herself to raising her young son and putting money in their pockets. She doesn’t expect to be drawn to her latest master, a brooding man of hulking presence who carves random messages into walls with his Persian blade as a means of starting a flirtation.

Malcolm Gregory Thayer, the earl of Brayton, may have dedicated himself to a life of religious virtue after leaving the monastery due to dark tendencies, but after meeting Leona, he begins to yearn for the life that had never been his. When he meets a retired French courtesan who invites him to embrace what he has long feared, he seizes the opportunity to become the man he always wanted to be. His new mission is clear. He intends to finally serve the one thing he never had: his heart.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts Both Malcolm & Leona are in very different places in their life. Leona finds herself fighting for the life she has built for herself and her son. But when the debt collector comes calling Leona finds herself in much more of a pickle with the a group of men. Thankfully her knight in shiny armor happens to be walking down the street. Malcolm is only in town for a short time. But stepping in to help the lovely Leona is about to turn his world upside down.

I have to tell you this is my first School of Gallantry novel by Ms. Marvelle. I have read all of Ms. Marvelle’s other books. I do have the first 4 books in the School of Gallantry series and after reading Master of Pleasure I am looking forward reading them. If you are a Delilah Marvelle fan you will love this book. If you are new, never fear you can read this book as a stand alone easily.

NATASHA’S REVIEW:
5 Hearts Full disclosure – I absolutely love everything Delilah writes and think she is amazingly great at historical romance. This is the fifth story in her incredibly addictive, funny, seductive School of Gallantry series. In this installment we get the story of the delectably scarred and mysterious Lord Brayton and how his life is forever changed when he comes to the rescue of Miss Leona Webster and her son Jacob.

Leona is a single mother who has struggled through heartbreak and misery, all while trying to make a better life for her and her son. I immediately loved Leona when we first met her, and I was literally giddy during her and Brayton’s first exchanges. I was so intrigued and excited by them and their possible future. I loved how open and honest these two were with each other from the start. I was rooting from them from the beginning – even when Brayton was being so incredibly stubborn.

Since we’ve seen many of the classroom scenes from the School of Gallantry during this series, we don’t see a lot of them recreated in this story. We do however get much more of Prince Nasser from Persia – who I adore! I was so excited to see more about him and how he and Brayton became associated. I wouldn’t complain if he got his own novella – just saying! Anywho, this story really focuses on Brayton and Leona together more than we see them interacting with others in this world which I really appreciated. It gave them the time they needed to truly get to know each other and was so refreshing to see. All in all I loved this story so much and will always anxiously await anything Delilah chooses to write! If you haven’t read her work, please go out NOW and start reading some truly great historical romance from a gifted author.

She trudged on. Safety was just over the next hill—or was she in a glen? It was impossible to tell. Her cloak was crusted with ice, the hem stiff and scratchy against her legs, snagging her stockings, shredding them. Fear rose, more menacing now, and she fought the urge to panic. She gulped a deep breath and tasted snow, felt the chill invade her lungs, form a cold ball in her belly. She could barely open her eye against the force of the driving snow stinging her face.

The world was as opaque as linen, or new milk.

Or a shroud.

“Hello!” she called out. The wind snatched the word and flung it away. “Please,” she begged. The gale took that word too. She bent forward, forced her way, step after step, the snow creaking and whining under her feet, the wind tearing at her clothes.

Alanna didn’t see the gully. It was as white as everything else—but suddenly she was tipping sideways, sliding, unable to stop herself from falling down the frozen slope. She screamed as she hit something sharp and hard  and came to a jarring stop. Pain shot through her knee, filled her body with agony, made her pant as her heart hammered against her ribs. There were sharp rocks lurking under the fresh snow. They peered up like jagged teeth from where her fall had uncovered them. It could have been much worse than a bruised knee. “Lucky,” she whispered.

She lay still, staring up at the sky, as white and heartless as the earth, lost in shock and pain. She reached her hand down to where pain radiated from her left knee, but her frozen fingers were useless. She raised her hand and stared at the blood on her glove. She swallowed hard.

Cut then, at least. Or was her leg broken? She tried to move it, felt the instant stab of pain, and cried out. The world dissolved from snow to white-hot fire. She felt a bubble of hysterical laughter fill her chest. Surely this would delay the wedding. Or would it simply make her bruised and battered and ugly on her wedding night? Her mirth died. She tried now, as she had for days, to imagine Merridew above her, in her bed, his body against hers. She felt only dread.

Up—she must get up, keep going. She gritted her teeth and tried to rise.  White hot agony forced the breath from her lungs, and she fell back. Perhaps the injury was worse than she’d thought, or maybe she was simply mired in a deep drift of snow. She would have to dig herself out, force herself to her feet, and continue on. She looked around, trying to get her bearings, but there was nothing, no one. The world had disappeared. She bit her lip, fought tears, and set a hand over her heart to still the terror that threatened to choke her. She was so cold, and so tired.

She lay back. She just needed a moment to rest, and then she would get up and find her way home. Above her, the snowflakes rushed toward her, silver on white, hypnotic. They tickled as they settled on her skin, a gentle caress. Alanna shut her eyes.

Just for a moment, she’d rest. Then she’d get up and find her way home.

Jennifer’s Review of Once Upon a Highland Christmas

Review (4.75 Stars): I found a new favorite author after reading Once Upon a Highland Christmas and I want to find a guy exactly like Iain.  He was sweet, charming and so gentle with Alanna after she was injured out in the snow. He was definitely an alpha male who had so much responsibility on his shoulders and planned to propose to another woman because it was expected of him after receiving his new title. The chance meeting with Alanna that night wasn’t what either of them had planned but once they saw each other, you could feel the sexual chemistry and heat between these two characters.

Alanna was used to fulfilling obligations as well and didn’t want to disappoint her family even though she was set to marry a man that she didn’t love.  Iain saved her life out in the snow that night and because of her injuries, she had to recuperate in his home.  I loved the interactions between the two and you could just see their relationship growing stronger as time went on.  They were an adorable couple and I was hoping that a little Highland magic could keep this couple together for Christmas.

This is the third novel in the Once Upon a Highland series and I loved every minute of this story.  Ms. Cornwall has created a perfect holiday romance that is sure to keep readers warm on those cold winter nights.  Once Upon a Highland Christmas was a beautifully written story with the right amount of Highland magic and charm that makes it one of my favorite books of the holiday season.

How many times had some well-intentioned relative or friend told him he needed to dip his toe in the dating waters, get back in the game, yada yada? He rejected their efforts at matchmaking and suffered through the curious gazes they gave to every female he even spoke to.

Didn’t they get it? He couldn’t imagine ever loving again. Besides, he’d been by Anita’s side from the time she got the diagnosis of terminal brain cancer until the day she died. Never, ever again, would he let himself be vulnerable to the shattering pain of loss. To the bitter anger against the world, himself, even the woman he loved but couldn’t save.

His heart clenched, the ache rose in his throat, and—

“Dave? You okay?” Warm fingers brushed his forearm, bare below the rolled-up sleeve of his lightweight denim shirt.

Cassidy. He breathed in, fresh air cleansing his throat, his chest.

“Yeah, sorry,” he said brusquely. Her voice, her touch had beaten back the darkness.

And now that he was back in the real world, he realized how disconcertingly good those soft fingers felt against his skin.

They’d reached the outskirts of town, which gave him an excuse to raise his arm so that her hand dropped. He pointed ahead. “That’s Westward Ho!—where I keep my horse.” The well-maintained wooden stable housed a couple dozen horses. Beside it was a red-roofed barn, and two white-railed paddocks provided space for the horses to stretch and socialize.

“That’s so cool, that you have your own horse.”

He shrugged. “Can’t imagine my life without a horse.”

“You’ve been riding since you were little?”

“Yeah, though I wasn’t a ranch kid, or into rodeo, like some of my friends. When I married Jessie, horses became a bigger part of life, and Robin lives and breathes them.”

“Handy that you can keep your horse in town.”

“Uh-huh,” he said as they walked into the stable. “I try to get out on Malibu at least every couple of days. When I can’t, Robin or one of the staff here exercises him for me.”

Dave greeted Eddy, the teenage girl whose dad owned the business, and introduced Cassidy. Leaving the two of them to deal with Cassidy’s paperwork, he and Merlin went out to the paddock to call Malibu. The palomino gelding came over, bobbing his head eagerly.

Dave went through the familiar ritual: tie his horse with cross ties, groom him and pick his hooves, then saddle and bridle him. By the time he was finished, Eddy’d got Cassidy up on the back of a pinto mare and given her refresher instructions on how to position her body, hold the reins, and give basic cues to her horse.

“You’re all set,” Eddy said. “Have fun.”

“Absolutely.” Cassidy beamed at the girl, then at Dave. “Lead on.”

Her smile really did have a way of lighting the day. And warming his blood.

They headed out on a quiet dirt road that led out of town, their horses walking side by side with Merlin springing happily along beside them. Cassidy looked relaxed and comfortable in the saddle. Did she fit in this easily wherever she went?

She bent forward to stroke her horse’s neck, the motion snugging her jeans even tighter against her firm butt. “This is Cherry Blossom, if you can believe it,” she said. “Eddy says she prefers to be called Cherry, and I can see why. You said your palomino is Malibu?”

“Yes. Named by the woman who owned him before me.”

“Suits him. Such a pretty boy.” Her gaze skimmed up from his horse to move across Dave’s torso and end up on his face, a hint of suggestive mischief in her eyes.

“Thanks.” He added quickly, to make it clear he wasn’t flirting, “On his behalf.”

Her lips squeezed together like she was holding back a smile. “How long will it take us to get to . . . what did Robin call it? Riders Boot Camp?”

“Yes, that’s the place her mom runs. It’s about ten miles by highway, only eight by the back roads and trails. It usually takes Robin and me about half an hour, but we move fast. Don’t know how much speed you’re up for.” He cocked an eyebrow.

“I’m up for pretty much anything.” Her striking blue-gray eyes danced, and he got the sense she didn’t just mean riding.

“Uh,” he said awkwardly, “we should let the horses warm up first.” The moment he said those words, he wondered if they could be taken sexually too. He was about to clarify, then figured that would only make things worse.

“Sure,” she said. “My muscles could use a little warming up too.”

Riding muscles, right?

Best to change the subject.

Jennifer’s Review of Love Me Tender

Review (3.75 Stars): This is the fourth book in the Caribou Crossing series and even though I’m unfamiliar with the other titles, this romance is easy to follow along with. Dave and Cassidy were a very interesting couple because they were both afraid to open themselves up to love.  Dave lost his “true love” to an illness and felt that love only comes once in your life, so since he had his opportunity, there wasn’t another woman that could take her place.  He then focused all his time on his daughter and his hotel, The Wild Rose, and pretended that he didn’t need anything else in his life.

Cassidy, on the other hand, didn’t believe in love because she saw what happened to her parents and the pain that it caused her family growing up so she was out to just have a good time.  Never stayed in any one place for too long and felt that true love wasn’t real.  Her carefree attitude was her shield in life until she met Dave and he made her feel things that she wasn’t expecting. In her own way, she was looking for a home and a family that would be there when she needed them and she never realized that until that possibility was within her reach.

Love Me Tender was a sweet romance about two people who found love when they finally found the courage to open their hearts to it.  I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the love stories of characters that were mentioned throughout this book.  Since this is the fourth title in the series, I have a lot of catching up to do and I know I will enjoy their stories as much as Dave and Cassidy’s.

AUTHOR: Katie Reus
PUBLICATION DATE: December 9, 2014
ORDER LINKS:Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Zoe’s stalker has been murdered…

Dr. Zoe Hansen was forced to leave her beloved hospital job to escape a stalker. It worked—or so she thought. She’s terrified when he reappears in her life one night—and stunned when he turns up viciously murdered soon after. She’s arrested for the crime, but she quickly clears her name. Unfortunately, her problems are far from over. She’ll have to accept the protection of the one man she shouldn’t want.

…now she’s in more danger than ever before.

Former Navy SEAL Sawyer McCabe might not know the gorgeous Zoe as well as he wants to, but he knows all about trouble. So when she’s threatened, he steps in to help her regardless of the consequences and gets her out of town. But it’s not enough to escape a determined killer. As the danger closes in they have to trust each other if they want to stay alive. And Sawyer’s determined to do whatever it takes to keep Zoe safe and in his arms. Because Zoe is worth risking everything for.

REVIEW:
Another great Red Stone Security story from Ms. Reus. The last few books have alluded to the fact that Zoe has been keeping something from her family and friends. And what she has been keeping could have easily got her killed.

Zoe & Sawyer are so great together. Is it wrong that I loved that there was a not so pleasant past between the ultra calm Vincent and Sawyer. And that when that past is brought up Zoe doesn’t side with you you think she would. Also the threat of calling their mother. Classic.

I will say that I think I read this book way too fast because the story was over before I knew it. But it was a great fast read. I am ready for the next book in this series. If you are a Red Stone Security fan you will enjoy this book. If you are new to the series, while I think you can pick up any book in this series and be fine I would suggest starting from the being.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Meow If It’s Murder by T.C. LoTempio

9780425270202_medium_Meow_If_It's_Murder

Hello.  My name is Toni LoTempio, and I’m the proud HUMAN to Rocco!

As some of you may or may not know, ROCCO not only runs his own blog, but he is also the “honorary spokescat” for KIDS NEED TO READ, a charity co-founded by Denise Gary, PJ Haarsma and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly)  In addition, he’s also the inspiration for the feline character NICK in the Nick and Nora mysteries, coming this December from Berkley Prime Crime!
ROCCO has interviewed many authors on his blog, but no one to date has ever interviewed him!  So now…it’s his turn. I interview ROCCO!

TLT:  Hey, ROCCO!  For all our interested readers out there, describe a typical day in your life.

R:  Thank you,  my Human.  Well, I’m usually very busy as you know, what with coming up with authors to interview for the blog, as well as ideas for that new mystery series you have coming out in December.  That takes up a great deal of my time.  My morning usually begins at around 3 a.m. when I start knocking everything off your dresser so you are sure to get up and feed myself and my siblings: brother Maxx and sisters Trixie and Princess.  Once that’s done, I usually bother you whilst you are getting dressed to go to your day job and once you’re out the door, I take a mid-morning nap to regain my strength.
Later, if I am so inclined, I amuse myself by playing with my favorite toy – my ballies! I love to lose them underneath large pieces of furniture so that you can get on your hands and knees and find them for me!  Then when you come home, I meow loudly to remind you that we all still need to be fed! Once that’s done, I trot myself into the den where you are working on one of your (our!!!) books and finagle you into spending at least twenty minutes playing “catch”.  After that, I take my evening nap (usually at the foot of your bed, sometimes next to you) until it starts all over the following day!

TLT: How did you become the spokescat for KIDS NEED TO READ?

R:  You and I were surfing the web one day and came across the charity.  It looked worthwhile, and you were travelling to Arizona that year on vacation, so you set up a meeting with Denise Gary and then we hit upon the idea of having an Ebay auction, publicized by moi on my blog, every summer.  So far we have run two very successful ones and will be doing our third this September.

TLT: What’s the story behind your name? Are you a Sylvester Stallone fan?

R:  Ah, my name has nothing to do with the ROCKY movies.  The lady at the Clifton Animal Shelter, where you adopted me, named my sister Pebbles and me ROCCO. Even then she could see I was a feisty devil.

TLT: I’ll definitely agree with the devil part…..

R:  Moi? Devilish????????? You betcha!

TLT: What do you love most about me?  Dislike most?

R:  Love is an extreme term.  I love the fact that you know to feed us on time.  If I had to hone in on one dislike, it would be you do not play “catch” enough with me.

TLT: Now, suppose you explain how you became the “inspiration” for our new mystery series debuting in December.

R:  With pleasure!  If you will recall, my Human, I have meowed many times to you that you should concentrate on writing stories about a cat such as myself and give up on the vampires and other such supernatural creatures.  After your supervisor concurred with my assessment one day, you came home and after watching a “Thin Man” movie on Turner Classic, got all fired up and started calling me “Nicky”.  Thus was born the Nick and Nora mysteries! My only regret is it had to be rewritten to eliminate my “talking”, MOL! (Meow Out Loud)
And I did come up with the title…MEOW IF ITS MURDER…although to date I have received absolutely NO credit for doing so, hisss!!!!!!!!!

TLT:  Just for fun…
Catnip or scratching post?   Scratching the arms of your couch!
Tabbies or Tuxedos? Both are equally fine.
Fish or Steak? Sardines

TLT:  Rocco, where can readers find out more about you and our mysteries?

R:  My human has a website www.tclotempio.com  and one can always check my blog, www.catsbooksmorecats.blogspot.com  Not only do we have at least 3 author interviews/giveaways per month, we also post news about the Human’s upcoming books!

The first Nick and Nora mystery, MEOW IF ITS MURDER, for which I am the inspiration for the tuxedo cat Nick, will be available December 2 from Penguin/Random.

TLT: Any last words?

R:  Pad softly and carry a big fish.

About the Author:

Toni LoTempio Credit to Clifton Animal ShelterWhile Toni LoTempio does not commit – or solve – murders in real life, she has no trouble doing it on paper. Her lifelong love of mysteries began early on when she was introduced to her first Nancy Drew mystery at age 10 – The Secret in the Old Attic. She lists among her favorite mystery/suspense writers Erle Stanley Gardner, Mary Higgins Clark and James Patterson, as well as EJ Copperman, Steve Hockensmith, Victoria Laurie, Ali Brandon, Rita Mae Brown, Miranda James and Sofie Kelly to name only a few! Toni is also passionate about her love for animals, as demonstrated with her four cats: Trixie, Princess, Maxx and, of course, ROCCO, who not only provided the inspiration for the character of Nick the cat in the Nick and Nora mystery series, but who also writes his own blog and does charity work for Nathan Fillion’s charity, Kids Need to Read!   Toni’s also devoted to miniseries like The Thorn Birds, Dancing with the Stars, reruns of Murder She Wrote and Castle (of course!). She (and ROCCO, albeit he’s uncredited) pen the Nick and Nora mystery series from Berkley Prime Crime – the first volume, MEOW IF ITS MURDER, debuts Dec. 2, 2014. She, Rocco and company make their home in Clifton, New Jersey, just twenty minutes from the Big Apple – New York.

Nora Charles doesn’t believe in fate, even if she is a crime reporter who shares a name with a character from The Thin Man. In fact, she’s moving back to Cruz, California, to have a quieter life. But after finding an online magazine eager for material, and a stray cat named Nick with a talent for detection, Nora’s not just reporting crimes again. She’s uncovering them…

Back in her hometown, Nora reconnects with old friends and makes some new ones, like Nick, the charming feline who seems determined to be her cat. But not everything about Cruz is friendly. Writing for a local online magazine, Nora investigates the curious death of socialite Lola Grainger. Though it was deemed an accident, Nora suspects foul play. And it seems that her cat does too.

Apparently, Nick used to belong to a P.I. who disappeared while investigating Lola Grainger’s death. The coincidence is spooky, but not as spooky as the clues Nick spells out for her with Scrabble letters—clues that lead her down an increasingly dangerous path. Whether fate put her on this case or not, solving it will take all of Nora’s wits, and maybe a few of Nick’s nine lives.

Jennifer’s Review of Meow If It’s Murder

Review (4.25 Stars): Nora Charles has moved back home to take over the family business, Hot Bread and is ready for the simple life.  She had her share of excitement as an investigative reporter back in Chicago and can’t help but get involved when she reads about the murder of local socialite, Lola Grainger.  Lola used to be a customer of Nora’s restaurant and Nora feels that her accidental death looks more like murder.  With her new furry companion, Nick, she sets out to find answers but finds herself in hot water because someone wants Lola’s death to remain an “accident” and will stop anyone determined to discover the truth.

Nick and Nora Charles have always been one of my favorite crime-fighting couples and I’m delighted to have a new mystery series with fun characters of the same name.  Nora was such a smart, sassy heroine who was used to getting what she wants after everything she learned as an investigative reporter in Chicago.  I loved the idea of her returning home to run her mother’s restaurant and she was a character that you could instantly relate to.  Her cat, Nick, was an entertaining sidekick for this mystery and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble he can get in next.  The murder mystery in this book was well-written and engaging and will definitely keep readers on their toes.

Meow If It’s Murder is a charming cozy mystery that will have readers clamoring for more of Nick and Nora.  This is the first book in a brand new series and I have to say this crime-fighting team is a real winner.
