BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Four of today’s most intriguing paranormal authors entice readers deep into the shadows, where vampires, immortals, and other supernatural creatures heat up the night…
ON THE HUNT by Alexandra Ivy: Mika Tanner has loved Bailey Morrell, a beautiful Healer, since childhood. But his duty as a Sentinel, a supernatural guardian of an ancient race, clashed with her rebellious spirit. Now a dangerous new anarchist group not only threatens life as they know it—but any chance of their being together again…
SCORPIUS RISING by Rebecca Zanetti: While searching for a meteorite, Nora Mendina is arrested by her sheriff ex-husband—who’s only gotten hotter than the Nevada desert since she last saw him. When the meteorite breaks open, the few survivors gain extraordinary powers, unleashing a crazed super genius killer. Can Nora and her ex stop the murders…while igniting a new love affair?
PHANTOM EMBRACE by Dianne Duvall: Immortal Yuri Sokolov was born with the ability to see spirits, yet he’s never seen one as lovely as Cat Seddon, the woman who haunts his home and his dreams. But amid their star-crossed love, a new danger may have Yuri facing a different kind of eternity.
STAKE OUT by Hannah Jayne: Vampire fashion designer Nina LaShay has a lot on her plate—just two days until fashion week and the model who was flirting with her photographer boyfriend is now a corpse in her studio. But when dead turns into undead and dangerous, Nina must find out who’s responsible…before the beautiful baby vamp takes too many bites out of the Big Apple.

REVIEW:
ON THE HUNT by Alexandra Ivy- This was a great story in Ms. Ivy’s Sentinels series. In “On the Hunt” we get to see in to the mind of Mika. One of the scariest Sentinels on staff. But in On the Hunt we not only get to see his softer side, but we get to meet the woman who has won and broke his heart.
I enjoyed this quick novella and hope that we will get to see these two again in future books.

SCORPIUS RISING by Rebecca Zanetti- Scorpius Rising is the start of Ms. Zanetti’s The Scorpius Syndrome series. The novella is not stop from the from paragraph one. We get to meet Deacan McDougall and Nora Mendina. Both are brought in to help fight a new enemy. An enemy that kills almost everyone one it comes into contact with. I am very much looking forward to this series. I can’t wait to see all the trials and tribulations that the world will go through in the fight against Scorpius.

PHANTOM EMBRACE by Dianne Duvall-Oh my gosh Yuri’s story. If you are a fan of Ms. Duvall’s series you have an insight to Yuri’s life already. If not, never fear this novella will not ruin the series. I don’t want to say too much, but it was so great to read Yuri’s story and learn more about the Russian Immortal and his best friend Stanislav.
STAKE OUT by Hannah Jayne- I had a hard time with this story. It just didn’t click for me.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A Woman on a Mission

Grace Clark has always done things safe. She’s never colored outside of the law, but she has a book due and has found the perfect spot to break through her writer’s block. Or so she thinks. Right up until Arian suddenly appears and tries to force her away from the mountain. Unaware of the war she just stumbled into, Grace doesn’t just discover the perfect place to write, she finds Arian—the most gorgeous, enticing, mysterious man she’s ever met.

A King with a Purpose

Arian is a Dragon King who has slept away centuries in his cave. Recently woken, he’s about to leave his mountain to join his brethren in a war when he’s alerted that someone has crossed onto Dreagan. He’s ready to fight . . . until he sees the woman. She’s innocent and mortal—and she sets his blood aflame. He recognizes the danger approaching her just as the dragon within him demands he claim her for his own.

REVIEW:
In Dragon King, a 1001 Dark Nights novella we get to meet a newly awoken King Arian. He is not so happy about being awake and even more unhappy about his unwelcome visitor. Grace on the other hand is looking for her muse by any means necessary. So what if she is afraid of storms and finds herself catch in one? She will be save in this nice cozy cave.

As always Ms. Grant sucks me into the world of her Dragon Kings. Every time I read one of these stories I never want the story to end. I want to know more about the Kings. I want to know more about Con (the dirt bag, yes he is on my hit list). I want to know more about what makes Ulrik tick and what will happen to him. I just want more!!!! I can’t wait to see what is next.

Kelly reviews Eighth Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones

eighth graveTITLE: Eighth Grave After Dark
SERIES #: Charley Davidson #8
CHARACTERS: Charley, Reyes, Beep and the whole crew
AUTHOR: Darynda Jones
NARRATOR: Lorelei King
PUBLICATION DATE: May 19, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
With twelve hellhounds after her, pregnant Charley Davidson takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can’t get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. But after months of being cooped up there, Charley is ready to pop. Both metaphorically and literally since she is now roughly the size of a beached whale. Fortunately, a new case has captured her attention, one that involves a murder on the very grounds the team has taken shelter upon. A decades-old murder of the newly-vowed nun she keeps seeing in the shadows is almost enough to pull her out of her doldrums.
Charley’s been forbidden to step foot off the sacred grounds. While the angry hellhounds can’t traverse the consecrated soil, they can lurk just beyond its borders. They have the entire team on edge, especially Reyes. And if Charley didn’t know better, she would swear Reyes is getting sick. He grows hotter with every moment that passes, his heat scorching across her skin every time he’s near, but naturally he swears he’s fine.
While the team searches for clues on the Twelve, Charley just wants answers and is powerless to get them. But the mass of friends they’ve accrued helps. They convince her even more that everyone in her recent life has somehow been drawn to her, as though they were a part of a bigger picture all along. But the good feelings don’t last for long because Charley is about to get the surprise of her crazy, mixed-up, supernatural life.

REVIEW:
As always it is so much fun to be back with Charley, Reyes and the crew. This was my first time listening to a Charley Davidson book on audible. I know crazy right?? But I had started this series reading and normally I stick with the format I started with. But I am so glad that I listened to Eighth Grave. Lorelei King does an amazing job. I am already looking forward to Ms. King reading Ninth Grave to me. Now back to Charley and crew.
Eighth Grave started out a bit slow for me. We pick up a few months after Seventh Grave (so if you have not read stop here) and Charley, Reyes and Beep are still living in hiding. The first part was slow. But there was information that came in handing in the second half. The ending… OMG there was tears, which is bad when you are driving down the highway. So many tears. No I can’t tell you. You have to read and find out. But know that we finally get to meet Beep. And of course her birth could be simple. OH NO!!! Not for Beep!! We get to learn more about Charley and Reyes. We thought we knew everything but we don’t. We also get a look into the future. A very uncertain future that could change everything for planet earth or be the end of mankind.

Can’t wait to see what trouble…. I mean what adventure… no I mean trouble that Charley can get herself into next. I keep hoping for a “and they lived happily ever after”, but that would mean the end of this series. So here is to hoping for a “and they all lived” ending in Ninth Grave.

REVIEW:
I listened to this one on audio and loved every minute of two out of three of these stories.
A Prelude to War: Read by Luke Daniels
As always the combination of Kevin’s words and Luke’s voice takes me right into the IDC world. Love love love hanging with Atticus. Love Oberon (and yes Oberon I know you did it!!!). And of Granuaile is on her own journey at the present time. But I love that A Prelude to War sets up for the next book in the IDC. I for one can not wait.
Off to Toronto we go……

Not My Circle, Not my Monkeys: Read by Alex Wyndham
This was my first read of Delilah S Dawson and my first listen to Alex Wyndham. The combination of these two make for an awesome story that I didn’t want to end. I loved Criminy Stain I can’t wait to read more of Mr. Stain.

Interlude; Swallow: Read by Julia Whelan
Interlude: Swallow I just could not get into. I am not sure if it was the writing, the narrator or the point of view. But it just didn’t grab me.

SERIES #: Devil’s Isle #1
CHARACTERS: Claire Connolly & Liam Quinn
AUTHOR: Chloe Neill
NARRATOR: Amy Landon
PUBLICATION DATE: August 4, 2015
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N | Tantor Media | Audible

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Seven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused.

Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack—in full view of the French Quarter—Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs, even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head.

But when the Veil threatens to shatter completely, Claire and Liam must work together to stop it, or else New Orleans will burn

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts The Veil is Ms. Neill’s first book in the Devil’s Isle series and she has a winner on hand!!!! The beginning of The Veil is a tad slow, but there is a lot of world building that needs to be done. There are some many things as reader/listeners that we need to know. So every part is important.
I love Claire. She is as Liam would put it Reckless Brave. This really is the perfect description of her. Claire does not back down from what she believes is right. Even when she learns more about her world and as her views of right and wrong change, she always sides on the side of right. I can not wait to see what is in store for Ms. Claire Connolly in the next book.
Liam Quinn. Just his name is great!! But there is so much more to Liam Quinn then just his name, good lucks, his tough as nail exterior and his job to protect the people of New Orleans. Liam is a bit of a lost soul searching for something, even though he may not know what it is. Thankfully he has found it in a fiery red head that will challenge him every step of the way. I loved these two. I really can’t wait for Liam to get with the program.
There are a lot of side characters too that I don’t believe will stay in the back ground for long. I do believe that Devil’s Isle is going to be an amazing series and I can’t wait for more.
I had the honor of getting an audio book version of The Veil from Tantor Media for review. Amy Landon did any amazing job in her narration. The story was told smoothly and not in a manner that felt like she was just reading the words (which is very important for me). I do hope that Ms. Landon will continue to be the narrator for future books in this series.
If you are a Chloe Neill fan I believe you will enjoy this new series. If you are new to Ms. Neill now is the time to jump into this new world. Audio fans, I would recommend this book to you also!! If you are unsure please go listen to a sample.

Looking forward to the next adventure.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
After corporate attorney Hannah Barrett tries—and fails—to stop a kidnapping in Vegas, she can’t shake the haunting image of the terrified young girl she couldn’t save. She tells herself that a visit to her hometown in Scarlet Falls could be a welcome distraction. But soon, Hannah realizes the kidnappers have all the info they need to track her every move. And when chilling e-mails about the victim appear in her inbox, it’s frighteningly clear what happened in Vegas has followed her home.

Eight months after a terrible family tragedy, Hannah turns to Detective Brody McNamara once again. Brody is eager to help, though he’s embroiled in the investigation of a brutal murder. But the closer they work together, the stronger their feelings grow…and the more they stand to lose when two seemingly unrelated, but equally deadly, cases collide.

REVIEW:
Minutes to Kill is the second story in the Scarlet Falls series. If you have not read Hour of Need (bk 1) I would suggest you start there. The events of Hour of Need set us up for Minutes to Kill. BUT you can read Minutes to Kill, just know that it may spoil some of Hour of Need for you.
But back to Minutes to Kill. We learn a lot more about the only sister in the Barrett family. Hannah is just as tough if not maybe a little tougher than her older brothers. I can’t tell you to much, but know that Hannah will not go down without a fight. Girl knows her stuff and packs a punch.
We got to see a little of Brody in book 1 but we didn’t know a whole lot about him. So in Minutes to Kill we learn about why’s that lead him came to Scarlett Falls.
I really enjoyed this book. Brody & Hannah are great together. Hannah may be tough but Brody balances her out. I can’t wait to see what is next in the Scarlet Falls series. Bring on the elusive Mac.

94TITLE: Kiss Me
SERIES #: Fool’s Gold #17
CHARACTERS: Phoebe & Zane
AUTHOR: Susan Mallery
PUBLICATION DATE: 06/30/15
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool’s Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart…

After Phoebe Kitzke’s kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool’s Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn’t exactly thrilled by the city girl’s arrival.

Thanks to his brother’s latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn’t fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she’s exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid.

In his arms, Phoebe discovers she’s a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can’t stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?

REVIEW:
Fool’s Gold is one of my favorite fictional places to see… I mean read about. I can’t wait to go visit every time a new book comes out. I enjoyed this book but it really was a bit different than most Fool’s Gold books.

Let me say that Phoebe is a hoot. Yes I said a hoot… the story is about cowboys after all. Phoebe is odd and sweet and maybe close to certifiable but all in all she is a great character. Zane well he takes some getting used to. I didn’t fall for him like I usually do with the men of Fool’s Gold and to be honest I think it was because this really didn’t feel like a Fool’s Gold story to me. There were a few reasons it doesn’t feel like Fool’s Gold. First we never actually set foot in Fool’s Gold. Second we only had a couple of cameos from residents in Fool’s Gold (I mean really Mayor Marsha only had like 2 whole lines). And finally this story was about a bunch of strangers. Yes the crazy two-some (Eddie & Gladys) were there but even they didn’t have the humor they normally have.

Now all that being said I enjoyed the story. It was a great romance and the couple was perfect together. I loved how Phoebe talks to the animals and Manny is so adorable. And I love that she brings out the softer side of Zane. The background story of the kids is really touching as well.

Susan Mallery never disappoints and I can’t wait for my next adventure when a movie star comes to Fool’s Gold. Roll out the red carpet!

SERIES #: Front and Center #4

ORDER LINKS:Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Keeping her safe is crucial. Guarding his heart is impossible.
Haunted by his time in Iraq, former soldier Schwartz Patton goes off the grid, retreating deep into Montana’s untamed wilderness. Now, ten years into his self-imposed solitude, his brother tracks him down and asks for a favor. A woman is in danger, and she needs help…and Schwartz is the only one who can protect her.
Designer-loving city girls like Janelle Keebler don’t belong in the wilderness. Unless, of course, they’re witnesses to a murder by their psycho drug-trafficking ex-husbands. Still, Janelle can’t help the immediate physical response she has to her sexy-as-sin protector that leaves her wanting more than she could have ever imagined. Even if he does make terrible coffee…
Every word, every touch, every kiss ignites a need Schwartz thought he’d lost forever. He can’t stop the desperate attraction simmering between him and Janelle, even if he wanted to. Even if it means it could get them both killed.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts SCHWARTZ!!!!
Okay some of you may not know about Schwartz Patton. 1) Shame on you 2) You need to read this series.
Schwartz Patton as part of the Patton family he has always believed he has to live up to the Patton family standard of perfection. Schwartz has always felt like he was the square peg in a round peg family. Which couldn’t be farther from the truth. When Schwartz is asked to help protect Janelle he figures it will be like any other job. Boy howdy is he wrong.
Janelle Keebler, is not known for her good decision making skills when it comes to men. Hence the reason she is on the run and in hiding. But while her poor choice in men may have landed her in danger, be with Schwartz is the most perfect thing to happen to her.
I loved this book. Love this series. Loved seeing each of the Patton children get their worlds turned upside down by a little thing called love. It was so nice and heartbreaking to find out (finally) Schwartz’s back story. I really wish that Janelle would have got a few more kicks in this book. I would have love to see her be just a tad bit more bada$$ at the end. But I guess she doesn’t need to be BA when she has the Patton family behind her.

So in short!!! If you are looking for a fun and fast read full of lots of love, laughter and smexy time you need to check out this series.

AUTHOR: Heather Graham
PUBLICATION DATE: 06/30/15

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Where is Lara Mayhew?

Lara, a congressman’s media assistant, suddenly quits her job—and disappears on the way to her Washington, DC, apartment.

Novice FBI agent Meg Murray, a childhood friend of Lara’s, gets a message from her that same night, a message that says she’s disillusioned and “going home.” To Richmond, Virginia. Meg discovers that she never got there. And bodies fitting Lara’s description are showing up in nearby rivers… Could she be the victim of a serial killer?

Meg is assigned to work with special agent Matt Bosworth, a hard-nosed pro in the FBI’s unit of paranormal investigators—the Krewe of Hunters. They trace the route Meg and Lara took more than once in the past, visiting battlefields and graveyards from Harpers Ferry to Gettysburg. Places where the dead share their secrets with those who can hear… As Meg and Matt pursue the possibility of a serial killer, they find themselves in the middle of a political conspiracy. Is there a connection? And who—besides each other—can they trust?

REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts Heather Graham has a way of writing that many try to emulate and few can. She mixes the paranormal with suspense in a way that catches the reader’s attention from moment one. She also adds facts to the background that make the reader want to catch the next plane to go see the sights. In this one Graham brings us to the war of the states. The Civil War is steep in stories of brother vs brother and the some say the ghost of the soldiers still walk the fields. And Graham takes us there with a good story.

Now all the above being said I want to say I enjoyed the book and if I had read it as a stand alone without the rest of the series influencing me then I would probably given it more stars than I did but having read the entire series this just wasn’t one of my favorites. Maybe because there was very little paranormal in it. I doubt we had a total of one chapter length of visiting spirits and that saddens me. I love the connection with the ghosts that Graham usually brings in but it almost seemed like an after thought for this book. The suspense was good and as per the normal I was not sure “who-dun-it”. I had a bit of an idea but was only half right.

And to be honest I am not sure I felt that Matt and Meg had a solid connection. I know it sounds weird but if I had to finish the story it would say that “Matt and Meg got together but after being together for a short time realized their connection was more about the case and have decided to part as friends”. OK maybe not but still just not the explosive connection we hope for.

Again I want to say I really enjoyed the story. I loved reading the history even though this is not usually one of the parts of history I am interested in stories from Graham always leave me wanting more information and this one is no different but comparing this with the others in the series I have to say that I hope the next book in the series gives us a little more.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Murdered by a dead man?

A woman named Maria Gomez is murdered in Miami, apparently by her husband—who’d been presumed dead, slain by a crime boss. FBI agent Brett Cody can’t believe it; dead or alive, the man had loved his wife. He also can’t help feeling guilty, since he was responsible for protecting Miguel and Maria Gomez.

A few miles away, Lara Mayhew has just begun working at a dolphin research facility. She loves her new job—until a dolphin brings her something unexpected from the deep. A human hand. More body parts show up, and when Brett looks into the situation, he discovers that the dismembered corpse is Miguel’s.

Soon, rumors of crazed zombies abound in the Miami media, and the Krewe of Hunters, an elite FBI unit of paranormal investigators, is called in. Brett and Lara find themselves working with the Krewe—and working closely together. An elderly crime boss who’s losing his memory seems to be key to solving this case, but…there’s no motive. Unless Brett and Lara can uncover one in the Miami underworld. And that means they have to protect themselves. And each other.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts One of the things I enjoy most about Graham’s writing is that I am never able to figure out the culprit and this was no different. And the thing that I do enjoy most is the way she delves into the surroundings and this time around it was based in Miami where I was born so I really enjoyed that. I was able to know where she was discussing and it gave it more of a real feel to me.

Graham is one of my favorite writers. She really pulls the reader in right away This is the 16th in the series but as always they can be read as a stand alone.

I really enjoyed Lara and Brett. Graham doesn’t exactly burn up the sheets with her books and that is ok. We know what is going on with the couple and that is all we need.

I would recommend anyone who loves romantic suspense with a touch of paranormal to read the Krewe Of Hunters books. You will not regret it.

Review of Frisk Me
Review (4.25 Stars): I love Ava and Luc together as a couple because they had so much heat and sexual chemistry together. Ava seemed so stuck up in the very beginning but the more I got to know her, the more I liked her. So did Luc and she was one of the few people that could see that Luc was hiding something behind that Good Samaritan persona that he was pretending to be. I also loved the witty banter between these two characters and I was so glad that Luc was able to win Ava’s heart at a time when they seemed to be at each other’s throats. Frisk Me is a fun, sassy romance with delightful characters and a storyline that will keep you hooked until the very end. Can’t wait to read more from this amazing author.

3.75 Hearts Chase the Darkness is Micah’s story. We had learned of Micah at the beginning of the series. But he was captured and the Alpha Pack had thought he was dead. But after being rescued Micah could not remember the depth of the pain and horrors he went throught. But as time went by more and more memories came out. Micah has so many demons in this book. But it was good to see him work through them. Thankfully Micah has found his mate.
Jacee has always known what the Alpha Pack was, well not exactly, but she knew they were shifters. What she didn’t know was that her mate has been there waiting for her. So when Micah walks into her bar reality hits her like a ton of bricks. But the question is will she be strong enough to be his mate?
Chase the Darkness was another good story in the Alpha Pack series. I really enjoyed watching Micah become himself again. I liked getting to know Jacee better. And as always it was great to see all the Alpha Pack shifters. Chase the Darkness was good, but a little slow for me at times. But I enjoyed it. And the ending. Can’t wait to see what is in store next.
