Kelly & Kimberly review Waiting On You by Kristan Higgins

waiting on youTITLE: Waiting for You
SERIES #: Blue Heron #3
CHARACTERS: Lucas Campbell & Collenn O’Rourke
AUTHOR: Kristan Higgins
PUBLICATION DATE: March 25, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Does being nobody’s fool mean that you’re nobody’s love?

Colleen O’Rourke is in love with love… just not when it comes to herself. Most nights, she can be found behind the bar at the Manningsport, New York, tavern she owns with her twin brother, doling out romantic advice to the lovelorn, mixing martinis and staying more or less happily single. See, ten years ago, Lucas Campbell, her first love, broke her heart… an experience Colleen doesn’t want to have again, thanks. Since then, she’s been happy with a fling here and there, some elite-level flirting and playing matchmaker to her friends.

But a family emergency has brought Lucas back to town, handsome as ever and still the only man who’s ever been able to crack her defenses. Seems like maybe they’ve got some unfinished business waiting for them—but to find out, Colleen has to let her guard down, or risk losing a second chance with the only man she’s ever loved.

KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.25 Hearts Sometimes your first love is not easy to forget or get over no matter what you do. This is the case for Colleen. She has never forgot the boy she loved when she was a kid. But he is married now so there is nothing she can do. Except Lucas is back and he is no longer married. The questions is can they get over the past hurt? And is Colleen willing to take a chance with her heart on a man who is only in town temporarily.

Waiting for You is book 3 in Kristan Higgins’ Blue Heron series. I really liked Colleen and Lucas. Even if at times both of them are brats. This two have such sad past story. I was really pulling for them, but there were so many roadblocks.

I really enjoyed the side story too. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I am hoping for Connor.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4 Hearts What if your first love ruined you for all other men? What if he then came back into your life? That is what Colleen has to find out. I really enjoyed this story. It was my favorite of the series or by Higgins in general but it was really good.

I thought I would enjoy Colleen a little more than I did. She is sassy, quick-witted, snide and loves everyone but I never seemed to connect with her. I like her but I didn’t want to become her best friend (if you know what I mean). Lucas is sweet and funny and yet again I didn’t fall for him. Now all that being said I enjoyed their story. I enjoyed them falling in love again and I enjoyed reading about their past together. I am just not sure why I didn’t connect with them.

I would grab any Higgins book that comes along so I can’t wait for the next in the series (Connor’s story maybe?). Higgins is one of the best.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4

REVIEW:

This was my first book in Cynthia’s Mine Series.  Mine to Crave easily read as a stand alone, but I will say that there are ties from this book that link back to book 1 so I would suggest starting from the beginning. I now have the first 3 books on my Kindle and will be going back and reading very soon.  That said on to the review.

Drake, Drake, Drake.  I am guessing that this guy has never hear that you don’t mess with fate.  Because she always wins.  No matter how hard you try to fight it Fate always wins.   In Drakes case it will be Fate tempting him with something, no someone he never thought he would want, need or ever have. Only problem is that what Fate gives Fate always takes away.

Jasmine is a girl with a lot of secrets and none of them are good.   So when she is hired to hack into Drake’s computer she has no problem.  At least not until she meets Drake and finds a very personal photo of him in his desk drawer.

These two have a bit of a wild ride ahead of them.  But it is a good ride.  Lots of twists and turns along the way.  I will say that there were a few surprises and a few things that were not as surprising.  But all and all I really like that story.  I can’t wait go back and read the first three books and I am looking forward to what Cynthia has in store for us next.

But Logan’s heart is tougher than the soil beneath them—can she convince him that they belong together?

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Love love love Jaci!!! She always knows how to pull me into a story and make me fall in love with the characters. Jaci also always make it so easy for me to want to strangle the characters at times too. And Hope Ignites is no difference.

I loved Logan. He is a total alpha male, a cowboy and a man who thinks he need no one in his life. Logan is an island of his own and he is about to met a hurricane named Desiree..

Desiree is awesome. I love her back bone of steel. I love that she stands by her best friend no matter what. And I absolutely loved how she blow in and turned Logan’s world upside down.

Needless to say I loved this book and can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

“The dead are seldom silent. All that is required for them to be heard is that someone be willing to listen. I have been listening to the dead all my life.”

Lady Lilith Montgomery is the daughter of the sixth Duke of Radnor.  She is one of the most beautiful young women in London and engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor.  She is also a witch.  When her father dies, her hapless brother Freddie takes on his title.  But it is Lilith, instructed in the art of necromancy, who inherits their father’s role as Head Witch of the Lazarus Coven.  And it is Lilith who must face the threat of the Sentinels, a powerful group of sorcerers intent on reclaiming the Elixir from the coven’s guardianship for their own dark purposes.  Lilith knows the Lazarus creed: secrecy and silence. To abandon either would put both the coven and all she holds dear in grave danger. She has spent her life honoring it, right down to her engagement to her childhood friend and fellow witch, Viscount Louis Harcourt.

Until the day she meets Bram, a talented artist who is neither a witch nor a member of her class. With him, she must not be secret and silent. Despite her loyalty to the coven and duty to her family, Lilith cannot keep her life as a witch hidden from the man she loves. To tell him will risk everything.

About the Author:

26836246Paula Brackston lives in a wild, mountainous part of Wales. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Lancaster University, and is a Visiting Lecturer for the University of Wales, Newport. Before becoming a writer, Paula tried her hand at various career paths, with mixed success. These included working as a groom on a racing yard, as a travel agent, a secretary, an English teacher, and a goat herd. Everyone involved (particularly the goats) is very relieved that she has now found a job she is actually able to do properly.

When not hunched over her keyboard in her tiny office under the stairs, Paula is dragged outside by her children to play Swedish tennis on the vertiginous slopes which surround them. She also enjoys being walked by the dog, hacking through weeds in the vegetable patch, or sitting by the pond with a glass of wine. Most of the inspiration for her writing comes from stomping about on the mountains being serenaded by skylarks and buzzards.

In 2007 Paula was short listed in the Creme de la Crime search for new writers. In 2010 her book ‘Nutters’ (writing as PJ Davy) was short listed for the Mind Book Award, and she was selected by the BBC under their New Welsh Writers scheme.

Jennifer’s Review of The Midnight Witch

Review (4 Stars): I thought that this was a beautiful and engaging story of a young woman who must accept her new role as the Head Witch of the Lazarus Coven after the death of her father.  Lilith was very young to have all this responsibility placed on her shoulders and has to struggle against the expectations that so many have placed on her in this position. She was expected to marry her childhood friend but during the course of the novel falls in love with another.  I couldn’t imagine dealing with all this responsibility but Lilith handled it with elegance and grace when her heart was breaking inside. I loved Ms. Brackston’s lustrous language and storytelling with these character, quickly finding myself lost within this magical story. I really enjoyed The Midnight Witch even though the pacing was slow at times but worth the journey in this haunting historical romance.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In this conclusion to the Mastered series by New York Timesbestselling author Lorelei James, a man’s need for control is tested by the one woman he’ll risk everything for…

When sensei Ronin Black first encounters Amery Hardwick, the fire in her eyes ignites a sexual spark a thousand times better than the primal rush he used to get from mixed martial arts matches. She accepts his darker edges and admits to him that her desires aren’t as wholesome as he believed. And before long Ronin is grappling with emotions he’s never felt before….

Yet despite demanding Amery bare her body and soul to him, Ronin holds a part of himself back. When she learns Ronin’s secret and walks out, his life begins to unravel. To regain her trust he must let go of his pride and prove to her that it’s more than passion binding them together. But after their private pleasures are made public, Ronin is unsure if he’s the right man for Amery. Can they face the consequences together? Or will their differences rip them apart?

REVIEW:
Unwound is the final book in Ronin & Amery’s story. Yes there was two books in this series. So if you have not read book 1 Bound. You really need to stop here and get book 1. These stories are too interlinked to read out of order.

In Unwound we pick up 6 weeks after we left off in Bound. Ronin and Amery have not spoken to each other until Ronin shows up at her door bloody, injured and talking nonsense.
Amery does the smart thing and call for help. These two have a huge uphill battle to get their relationship back on track. The question is will they be able to weather all the storms that are about to hit them.

I will say that I enjoyed this second book a little more than the first book. I think that I connected with Ronin & Amery more in Unwound then in Bound. It was a great story of love, loss and learning to find one’s self. There were many heart breaking parts of this book but so many good parts.

If you love Bound you will love love love Unwound for sure!!!! If you have not read Bound again you need to read Bound before you read Unwound.

Jennifer’s Review of Load the Boat

Review (4 Stars): I admit I know nothing about square dancing so this was a very interesting mystery for me. Darla gets the chance opportunity to be a square dance caller on a cruise ship and is looking forward to a little relaxation while she is away. What she finds is a mystery that she hadn’t planned on and her vacation just turned into solving crimes instead of sitting poolside.

I liked Darla and the other characters and it was fun learning about square dancing, which I found very interesting.  This was an enjoyable mystery that made me want to take a cruise with Darla and her square dancing friends.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Will the Rogue’s Perfect Plan…

Colin Brockhurst, Earl of Ravenshire, has no desire to wed, this season or any other. So when his father demands he give up his wild ways and take a wife, Colin refuses. But his father raises the stakes and threatens to sell the ancestral home if Colin doesn’t comply. Now Colin has no choice but to find a wife. Unfortunately, the only woman he wants is the one whose heart he broke years ago.

Lead to the Perfect Seduction?

Regardless of the ton’s whispers, Lady Angeline Brenham won’t settle for anything less than true love. After rejecting more than her share of suitable suitors, spinsterhood looms before her—until the devilishly handsome Colin reappears in her life with a proposition. Angeline vows to keep her feet on the ground and her heart in check. That is, until one searing kiss melts her resolve and reignites a burning desire for more.

REVIEW:
What does love got to do with it?
Well if you are Colin’s father you think it has everything to do with everything. But two can play at that game. Colin will do anything to keep his father from selling the piece of land where his mother is buried. But in order to do that he needs to prove to his father that he is serious. Only problem Colin’s father has told him that he can only inherited the property if he can find a bride. Problem is, Colin doesn’t want to marry. Well at least not yet.

Angelina is still trying to recover from her broken engagement. While she may have not done anything wrong no one know that. They only know the lies that have been spun by a very evil person. But in order to regain her place in the world would she marry for convenience?

What a Reckless Rogue Needs is book two in Vicky’s The Sinful Scoundrels series. In What a Reckless Rogue Needs we get a closer look into what makes Colin tick. I have enjoyed all the snippets we have got of Colin in the past. There is much more to Colin than meets the eye. I loved Angelina. She is feisty, sweet and willing to do just about anything for her family. These two were great to read.

If you enjoyed book 1 you will really like book 2. If you are a fan of historical I think you will enjoy What a Reckless Rogue Needs. While I think that you should read the series in order it is not necessary. This story easily stand alone.

REVIEW:
Who said a cat & dog can’t play nice?

Well if you are Riley and Mercy you might just kill each other before that happens. But funny thing about love, it turns you on your ass when you least expect it. 🙂
These two were great fun to read about. They may not be my favorite couple of the series (so far) but I did love them. They both push each other’s buttons almost to a fault. But both know when to hang there head in shame and beg for forgiveness.

As always Nalini writes an amazing story and Angela delivers an amazing reading of this story. These two are like Peanut Butter and Jelly, they go together so well.
If you have not started this series. For real, what is wrong with you? Read or listen this is a series you have to experience.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy–cool, calm, emotionless…at least on the surface. Inside, she’s fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal danger of a sniper’s embrace.

DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard’s rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian’s agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules.

REVIEW:
4.5 Hearts Dorian has been through so much in his life that he is teetering on the edge of a very dangerous cliff. One wrong move or one wrong emotion could send him over. The last thing that Dorian needs it to get tangled up with a Psy. Or that might be the very thing he does need.
Ashaya has been hiding secrets for years. But now that she has defected all her secrets are starting to come out. The only question is who can she trust with them?

Seriously Nalini must be a writing god. I love everything about this series and these books. And this book made me cry! So loved reading Dorian and Ashaya’s story. But I do have a few questions that I hope will get answered in future books.

Angela does an amazing job again in narrating this book. I love that you know each character’s voice no matter which book you are listening too.

If you have not started this series yet you really really need to. But you have to start with book 1.

4.5 Hearts Clay Bennett has been chasing a ghost for years. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think that that ghost would seek him out. But that is what just happened. Talin McKade is in dire need of help and there is only one person in the world that can help her. But Will Caly help her after he learns what she did, who she has becomes and the fact that there can be no future?

Dang this girl can tell a story!!!! Can Nalini write a bad story? I think not!! Clay and Talin have such a tortured past. It broke my heart so many time while listening to this story. It was great to watch both of them grow and learn to trust and love.

My only complaint about this story was that I was not wild about the voice that Angela picked for Clay. But in reality it most likely was the perfect voice for Clay. He all dark, dangerous and very animal.

Serisoulsy in love with Nalini and the Psy-Changeling series!!

REVIEW:
This is the final novella in Jo Davis’ Torn Between Two Lovers series. This last book was controlled by you the readers. In book one we got to meet Grayson. In book two we got to meet Joaquin. After reading the first two books, which you have to read in order, you the readers voted as to who you wanted Anna to end up with.

I am not going to tell you who she ended up with and I am not going to tell you who I wanted Anna to end up with. But I will tell you that Jo did great job of wrapping this story up into a nice little bow.

Jennifer’s Review of Hot Rock

Review (3.5 Stars):  One of the things that I liked about this unique time travel story was its main character, Megan.  She has come all the way to England to attend the Glastonbury music festival to fulfill a dream and finish her thesis about rock music.  Even though her professional career is in turmoil due to the actions of previous boyfriend, she is determined to fight and enjoy what little time she has at the festival.  I liked her strength and determination in this book and she wasn’t going to let anything get her down.

When she meets David, the next door neighbor, it is like a dream come true because he looks exactly like her rock idol from the seventies.  The more time she spends with him, she can’t shake the feeling that everything isn’t what it seems and David sounds too much like her favorite singer.  What Megan doesn’t know is that “David” is from the past and has found an interesting way to visit the future on the property where she is staying for the festival.  I had a hard time connecting to Davy because he was a jerk to Megan for a good half of the book.  He may have been a rock god but I just couldn’t see them as a great couple.  I liked this well-written story even though I didn’t fall in love with Davy like Megan did and I’m interested in reading more stories from this author.
