AUTHOR: Maya Banks
PUBLICATION DATE: October 7, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A sizzling story of a woman who risks her life and her heart to find a wealthy man’s missing sister—the first novel in a sexy new romantic suspense series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks

When Caleb Devereaux’s younger sister is kidnapped, this scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot.

While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he’s caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie’s vanished forever, she reappears. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Now, Caleb will do risk everything to protect her—including his heart

REVIEW:
Keep Me Safe is book one in Maya Banks new Slow Burn trilogy. This is going to be a very interesting trilogy. A lot of mystery and mystique. I will say that as this story began I had my doubts because events happen that I don’t care to read about. But I understand why it was written into the story and thankfully it was not detailed. That being said I enjoyed the rest of the story.
Keep Me Safe is a bit heartbreaking, yet the characters always hold out hope. I honestly had hoped that things would not go as far as they did. But, I am not the author and don’t have control of the direction of the story. I liked this story, but was not in love with it.
I do plan on reading the next two books in this trilogy. I really want to know how Tori is doing and what is happening with Quinn & Beau.

Kelly reviews Broken by Laura Wright

BrokenTITLE: Broken
SERIES #: The Cavanaugh Brothers#2
CHARACTERS: James Cavanaugh & Sheridan O’Neil
AUTHOR: Laura Wright
PUBLICATION DATE: October 7, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The Cavanaugh brothers left behind River Black, Texas, long ago. But after their father dies, bequeathing them the Triple C, a cattle ranch that sustains their small town, they return—and confront the painful memories of their childhood home and the truth about their sister’s murder…

For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he’s earned hasn’t healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings. Until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls…

Sheridan O’Neil’s quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Tired of rejection, she’s ready to swear off men. But after being rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she’s ever met, her resolve wavers. Only, as Sheridan uncovers James’s belief that no woman is safe with him, she wonders if such a wounded man could ever give in to love, or if some hearts are too broken to be healed

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Being back on the Triple C Ranch is great. Love me some hot, alpha male cowboy. But James and Sheridan were lacking something for me. Oh yes, there were times that I just loved them. But there were also times that I felt a little disconnected with them. It could be the error of mystery that the Cavanaugh brothers have been trying to solve for yes. It could have been James’ demons of his past. I am not sure. But even with that it was a good story and it left me wanting to know more about what really happened to Cass. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Natasha reviews The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

the beautiful ashesTITLE: The Beautiful Ashes
SERIES #: Broken Destiny #1
CHARACTERS: Ivy & Adrian
AUTHOR: Jeaniene Frost
PUBLICATION DATE: 8/26/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn’t mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn’t: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between

REVIEW:
This is the first book in a new YA series by our beloved Jeaniene Frost. This story starts off with Ivy in a tight spot and Adrian shows up to save her. I really like Ivy and Adrian together. They click really well and seem like a natural team. Adrian is extremely secretive so it creates significant conflicts between the two; which causes them both to make really idiotic decisions. I found myself severely frustrated with both Ivy and Adrian at times. Some things Ivy took in stride that I would expect her to freak out about and the things that seemed really insignificant she made a huge deal out of. I found myself just wanting to scream at her at times. I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt though, her situation is unusual. I still feel like I don’t know Ivy or Adrian very well. I’ll definitely need more time with both of them to feel any type of deep connection or have a vested interest in the characters. I’ll read book two when it releases and see if the story picks up and offers a little more.

Kelly reviews Hell On Heels by Robyn Peterman

hell on heelsTITLE: Hell on Heels
SERIES #: Hot Damned #3
CHARACTERS: Dixie & and the rest of the Hot Damned crew
AUTHOR: Robyn Peterman
PUBLICATION DATE: September 15, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Where does a Demon go when she gets deported from Hell?

Kentucky. Eden, Kentucky to be more specific—where nothing is exactly as it seems.

My name is Dixie. I’m a Demon—a lousy Demon. I’m a twenty-one year old virgin and I have a battery operated boyfriend. My magic is iffy at best and downright dangerous at worst. Leaving Hell to represent my race is not high on my list of things to do.

Hell was exact. Hell was simple. All I want to do is get to home base with the hotter than Hades Demon of my dreams and work on my dark side so Satan, my dad, will get off my ass.

Instead I end up in Kentucky looking for the Balance of Chaos, avoiding pole dancing classes with Mother Nature and finding out my invisible friend is a silver skinned destructive weather pattern.

And if that isn’t craptastic enough, the damn Sword of Death is missing again and who ever has it wants the King of the Underworld dead. Seriously.

With new powers emerging daily, keeping my Demon side, horniness and general disgust under wraps doesn’t make it any easier to fit in with the humans. Thankfully my priorities are in line; get laid…save world…try not to blow up kitchen appliances…and get laid again. I was ready to rumble.
All I want to do is go back to Hell, but with the balance of good and evil in my hands, I’m stuck in the garden of Eden. Oh well, what the Hell. Someone has to save the world before there’s no world left to save. Might as well be me.

REVIEW:
Where do I start this review. I have loved all of Ms. Peterson’s past books. But Dixie’s book just didn’t cut the mustard for me. Hell on Heels was filled with all of that typical snark and crazy funness of all of Robyn’s past books. That makes you want to laugh so hard your side hurts and a pair of depends could come in handy. And I have truly loved Dixie in the last book. But I am not sure. It just didn’t connect with the story, which sadness me because I wanted to love this whole book. I LOVED the ending of the book!! And I am looking forward to the next journey that Mr. Peterson take me on.

Kelly & Kimberly review In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins

in your dreamsTITLE: In Your Dreams
SERIES #: Blue Heron #4
CHARACTERS: Jack Holland & Emmaline Neal
AUTHOR: Kristan Higgins
PUBLICATION DATE: September 30, 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Emmaline Neal needs a date. Just a date—someone to help her get through her ex-fiancé’s wedding without losing her mind. But pickings are slim in Manningsport, New York, population 715. In fact, there’s really only one option: local heartthrob Jack Holland. Everyone loves Jack, and he won’t get the wrong idea…. After all, Jack Holland would never actually be interested in a woman like Em. Especially not with his beautiful ex-wife creeping around, angling to reunite ever since he rescued a group of teens and became a local hero.

But when the wedding festivities take an unexpectedly passionate turn, Em figures it was just one crazy night. Jack is too gorgeous, too popular, to ever end up with her. So why is she the one he can talk to about his deep, dark feelings? If Em is going to get her dream man, she’ll have to start by believing in him

KELLY’S REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Everyone loves Jack Holland. Well everyone, but me. Jack is sweet, yes. Jack is uber hot, yes. Jack is the town hero, yes. But Jack as a serious I can say no to anyone problem. I liked Jack a lot in the beginning then he kinda got on my nerves. By the end of the book I liked him again. But I think he had it too easy. There should have been a lot more I need to kiss your ass for screwing up so badly.
Emmaline on the other hand I liked all the way through the book. Oh she had her moments I wanted to shake her and tell her to get over it. But, I knew she would be okay. She is one tough chick. And really should have made Jack work harder.
But all in all this was a great story. So much going and so many sensitive issues were addressed. I am looking forward to the next novel in the Blue Heron series.

KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts Ok so here is the thing… Everyone in town just adores Jack but 95% of the time I really didn’t like him at all. He is so sad and stuck in his own head and waiting for bad things to happen and then he can be mean and thinks that an “I’m sorry” will fix everything and that is the second problem. With Em it does. Why that girls falls for him I have no idea. I get that when he is sweet he really is cute and funny but those times are so rare that it really shouldn’t matter. And Em has had her heart broken before and in such a big way that why she lets Jack walk all over and use her I just do not get.

I really enjoyed the Jack we met when he was a background character but the writing was different with him in this book and I didn’t like that very much. The book is very wordy with a bunch of the same things over and over. And the amount of time we spend reading about the ex’s is just too much. I liked Em most of the time. She is comfortable in her own skin and sassy and just plain likeable but she can also be such a doormat.

I have enjoyed the others in the series and look forward to reading the next one but this one just didn’t do anything for me at all.

no weddingsTITLE: No Weddings
SERIES #: No Weddings #1
CHARACTERS: Hannah & Cade
AUTHOR: Kat & Stone Bastion
PUBLICATION DATE: 9/8/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Award-winning author Kat Bastion teams with her husband, Stone Bastion, in this first book in the No Weddings Series about Cade Michaelson, a successful man with his sights set on a new venture in business, and Hannah Martin, the woman who makes it personal.
I think I have my act together as a successful bar owner, my master’s degree within reach, and a list of no-strings-attached women warming my bed. Turns out, I don’t.
Hannah believes she has safeguarded her wounded heart by shunning men and focusing on her new baking business. The thing is, she hasn’t.
When my three sisters and I start a new event-planning business with Hannah as our baker, I have no idea how my life is about to change. As Hannah and I work closely together, the attraction between us becomes irresistible. And complicated. I’ve promised my sisters I wouldn’t mix business with pleasure. But I’ve never been one to follow the rules.

REVIEW:
This was book one in a new series that I was completely intrigued by. This book is told from the male perspective (Cade) and I really enjoyed the change of pace. I have to be honest. I hated Cade for the first half of the book. He seemed like a typical male chauvinist asshole and I hated him as a lead. But I was proved completely wrong, he’s such a doll and I love him! Hannah is a great character and I love her personality. She’s the perfect blend of confidence and feminine. Cade’s sisters are a sweet bonus, I love their interaction. The writing in this book is fabulous. Easy to read, easy to follow and easy to fall in love with the characters. Book 2 is told from Hannah’s perspective, I’m excited to continue the story from a different point of view.

mind sweeperTITLE: Mind Sweeper
SERIES #: Mind Sweeper #1
CHARACTERS: Kyle & Dalton
AUTHOR: AE Jones
PUBLICATION DATE: 9/15/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
An angel, a demon and a vampire walk into a bar. Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it’s just another day in the life of Kyle McKinley.
Kyle was born with the ability to erase memories, and the inability to keep her opinions to herself. She and her teammates – a vampire who looks like a sexy pirate with fangs, and a Shamat demon with a penchant for Italian pastries – provide supernatural damage control when humans see too much. Today’s problem? A sword-wielding angel and a demon had a supernatural smackdown during happy hour in a Cleveland bar, leaving behind a headless vampire and a dozen human witnesses.
This latest supernatural slip-up is attracting all kinds of attention. So much attention that the police step in, and Kyle has to deal with Joe Dalton, a know-it-all human with the sexiest turquoise eyes she has ever seen. Kyle has no room in her life for yet another human who will treat her like a freak. However, Dalton definitely makes her naughty parts sit up and take notice, and it’s more than mutual. But before they can act on their attraction, they must join forces to solve a dangerous puzzle. And when they uncover the truth, the apocalyptic ripple effect forces Kyle to make a choice. Learn to trust again, or risk losing everyone she cares about, including Dalton.

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This was a good start to a new author and new series. Kyle McKinley is a strong female lead character – with special supernatural abilities – who takes no crap from any male on her team. I love seeing the interaction between Kyle and her teammates – Jean Luc, the vampire and Misha the demon. *sigh*…oh Misha. Oh sorry, back to the team. They are a well-oiled machine, and then a human by the name of Joe Dalton enters the mix and shakes things up. He immediately stands strong as a lead male character and is assertive with this group of supernatural beings. I really liked that about him. He didn’t let anyone intimidate him; he kept an open mind and worked well with an already established team. He fit in perfectly. Seeing him and Kyle dance around one another was both comical and intense. I love them together. I also loved all of the supporting characters of this story. I’m very excited to see more of them and how their stories unfold. This new series has it all, action, comedy, suspense and great characterization. I would recommend this book to my friends and am happy I got a chance to enjoy it!

AUTHOR: Christina Dodd
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/09/14

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Twenty-three years ago, Misty Banner was brutally slashed to death in her home in Virtue Falls, Washington. Her husband was convicted of the murder. Their four year old daughter Elizabeth witnessed the crime, but has no memory of the killing. Now, two decades later, Elizabeth is back in Virtue Falls. She soon discovers her father is innocent. The real killer is still out there. And her investigation has stirred dark and deadly resentments that could provoke in another bloody murder—her own.

REVIEW:
I had the hardest time with this book. First it is so wordy. Seriously it could have been written with half the words and it would have kept my attention better. There are too many characters. It was so confusing especially in the beginning. I understand needing background characters but it seemed everyone was a primary character in this book and none of them is interesting. Everyone seems so broken in this story.
The suspense is kind of interesting. Was it great? Not really but it was ok. There have been a lot of reviews written on GoodReads that say they loved it and I guess maybe if you enjoy a really long suspense it would be right up your alley. It is just not mine.

Natasha reviews Dark Skye by Kresley Cole

dark skyeTITLE: Dark Skye
SERIES #: Immortals After Dark #14
CHARACTERS: Lanthe & Thronos
AUTHOR: Kresley Cole
PUBLICATION DATE: 8/5/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
In this highly anticipated fifteenth novel in the Immortals After Dark series, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole spins a sultry tale of a mighty warrior scarred inside and out and the beguiling sorceress with the power to help him—or vanquish him forever.
Eternal Obsession
As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.
Endless Yearning
Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.
Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?
With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?

REVIEW:
3.5 Hearts This is one of my favorite series of all time. In recent years we’ve seen Lanthe more, but Thronos was a complete mystery to us. I was excited to see this glimpse into their obviously convoluted and tumultuous past. Unfortunately, the story was lackluster for me. Kresley Cole writes AMAZING books, but this one was really hard to keep getting excited about. While there was constant action and the story kept moving forward towards a predictable end, I found I just wasn’t interested. Neither Lanthe nor Thronos became important to me on anything more than a superficial level. Though Cole seemed to be trying to add depth and emotion to the characters, I found them one dimensional and dull. We barely got glimpses into what events actually transpired to cause their 500 year feud, and their courtship seemed forced. Obviously, as with any book in this series, my absolute favorite parts were those involving Nucking Futs Nix! I’m not sure who is going to be next in this series, but I’m hoping to move past *spoiler alert* The Order’s prison and island piece that the last few books have centered around. Though I know it’s an important piece of the universe, the same setting is getting a little dull. Nevertheless, I will continue to support this series because Cole is hilarious and a fabulous story teller. This one just wasn’t my particular cup of tea.

Kimberly reviews Blaze Of Winter by Elisabeth Barrett

Blaze Of WinterTITLE: Blaze Of Winter
SERIES #: Star Harbor #2
CHARACTERS: Avery & Theo
AUTHOR: Elisabeth Barrett
PUBLICATION DATE: 09/10/12
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Frustrated with her job in Boston, social worker Avery Newbridge welcomes the opportunity to reassess her life when family asks her to help manage the Star Harbor Inn. Trying to figure out her future is overwhelming enough, but she doesn’t count on distraction in the form of one Theo Grayson, the gorgeous, green-eyed author who she knows is trouble from the moment he saunters into the inn.

Not only does he have a talent for writing swashbuckling adventures, but Theo also has a soft spot for big-hearted damsels in distress, especially a woman who’s great at helping everyone—except herself. Avery’s demons challenge him, but for desire this hot, he isn’t backing down. With every kiss and heated whisper Theo promises her his heart . . . if only Avery is willing to open up and accept it.

REVIEW:
3.5 Stars This was my fault. I read the stories out of order and honestly it kind of ruined (for lack of a better word) this story for me. I liked Theo is book one so I wanted to read his story and Avery is an interesting character too but for some reason reading them out of order just kind of blew it for me.

Now I do know these books do not have to be read in order. They can stand alone just knowing that that the other brothers have their stories too so why I had a hard time I just don’t know. That being said Theo and Avery’s story is great. Theo is adorable. Avery keeps your attention too.

I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a good romance with hunky brothers for each season of the year.

Natasha reviews Beyond Love by Barbara J Duell

loveTITLE: Beyond Love
CHARACTERS: Michael McCall & Richard Hampton
AUTHOR: Barbara J. Duell
PUBLICATION DATE: Spring 2014
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
He’d only planned to run away from home, but after eight-year-old David Hampton is almost run over by a car in downtown Sausalito and rescued by a beautiful lady with a man’s name, his plans change. All he’s ever wanted was a Mom and decides Michael McCall is the Mom he wants. All he has to do is convince his dad, and maybe Ms. McCall.
It should be easy, but unlike stories with happy endings, this is not a fairytale; this is real. When Professor Michael McCall and Dr. Richard Hampton meet, the sparks from their first encounter ignite into an instant desire so powerful it rivals the intensity of the fire that nearly destroyed the city across the bay. Their path to happy-ever-after will demand that they travel beyond their lust and the heat of their passion — a journey steeped with pain, a constant reminder of love given and lost — a journey where the past must be put away, freeing them to find the courage to reach BEYOND LOVE.

REVIEW:
This book was a little difficult for me to get into at first. I like the idea behind the story; it’s a very sweet love story. However, I found it difficult to connect with either of the main characters – especially Michael. She is definitely an aggressive, confrontational, strong personality. I was hoping I’d get to see her reign in her temper a little more throughout the book and learn to adapt to others around her. I also wish we’d gotten a little more depth of her character. She has such an amazing story to tell and I really wanted to dig deeper into her and create that connection. Richard was a good character. He had so many flaws, but all you can do is laugh sometimes at how oblivious he is to the people and things surrounding him. He was just as flawed as Michael so they were definitely perfect for each other in that regard. He was also vey sweet. I’m happy that this book allowed us to read from each character’s perspective – I really enjoy knowing what is going on inside each character’s head rather than first person accounts. Unfortunately sometimes the transitions between character perspectives was not always clear and I found myself confused at times trying to decipher which character I was reading at the moment. Overall, the book was enjoyable and I’m happy I read it. I’m very excited to see what other stories we can look forward to from Barbara!

Kimberly reviews Stone Cold Lover by Christine Warren

stone cold loverTITLE: Stone Cold Lover
SERIES #: Gargoyles #2
CHARACTERS: Felicity & Spar
AUTHOR: Christine Warren
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/26/14
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A prominent art restorer, Felicity is more than game to help a friend track down an obscure statue in Montreal. But when “Fil” finds it, she’s taken by surprise at how drawn she is to this statue. Attracted to it in a way a girl shouldn’t lust for a stone gargoyle, she revists it at night, longing to feel its embrace. Little does Fil know, her desire for this stone cold beast is about to heat up a notch.
Locked in stone for centuries, Spar has slept, waiting for when a human would need him. When he is awoken, Spar is taken aback to find that a human female needs his help. A very sexy woman who’s about to be the victim of a cultist attack. Saving and leaving her should be no problem. But as more questions arise, Spar knows that he cannot rest until Fil is safe in his arms.

REVIEW:
First let me say that this is the second in the series and when I picked it up I actually thought it was the second in another series about gargoyles so I was very confused when I started reading this one. And honestly I never really got into the story. Most certainly you need to read the first one to understand this story. While the romance of it can stand alone the background story can not and while it is explained throughout the story something is missing by having not read the first one.

Spar and Fil are sweet for lack of a better word. Spar is overbearing and protective but do you think a gargoyle who comes to life would be anything but? And Fil has a sarcastic and snide sense of humor which is kind of fun to read.
All in all I would say it is a good story if you start from the beginning and understand it.
