REVIEW:
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would when I picked it. The writing eventually was good, but in the beginning it was not written the way a normal conversation takes place but that seemed to change as the book went on and the dialogue became more real. The interesting thing about this book is Joe is a single father of three who manages to get by by the skin of his teeth. He is not rich nor has some fancy job, he is a man trying to make life work out as best he can. He is not perfect and he messes up more than not but he loves with his whole heart. Catherine is a teacher of pregnant teens and not some model or something. Catherine is a broken woman trying to get on with her life after a divorce and finding out she can not have children. They are just normal people who most anyone can connect to. The background characters are interesting too. Fritz is adorable and written really well for the age she is portraying. Charlie does not have much of a part but is cute too. And Della could have used a little more of a background for us to understand her pain but she was written as a typical teen. This book has a lot to offer especially if you are at a point in your life wondering if you can have a second chance at love. I do wish the book had a epilogue since so much was left without us knowing. Also the book started with both characters being still in love with the people of their past and in the beginning that is hard to get past even though eventually you do. I think this book is very good and I think if you enjoy the genre you will enjoy this book.

REVIEW:
This is the second in a new the series called Second Act. This book is a cute quick read. There are some funny pages and the dogs are adorable. The problem is that I never really found myself liking Cynthia. She and the rest of the cast can be very annoying. I never felt any chemistry with Max and Cynthia at all and spent the whole time trying to figure what she saw in him. Don’t get me wrong this is a cute read but just really didn’t have enough romance in it for me. Something is just off about this book for me even though I am not sure what it is.

REVIEW:
Honestly it is hard to say if I liked this book or not. In the beginning there were so many characters introduced (and of course they were complicated angel names) that it was difficult to remember who was who and why they were doing what they were doing. The characters of Nathanial and Chloe just never connect for me. The characters of Chloe and Neve are actually a bit more interesting.

I was just so lost in the beginning of the story that I think I never fully got into the storyline. Yes the story got better but just never up to the potential the story had. There seem to be a lot of holes in the story. I mean supposedly Chloe has no ties to anyone (or atleast her soul doesn’t) but she seems to have a family she loved and people calling her and helping her.

While I have read books with angels/fallen angels I have not read one (not that I remember) solely on them so maybe I am not used to the genre and if someone is into this kind of story I can see them enjoying the book. It just really was not my cup of tea.

REVIEW:
This is a short novella. Genie has gone into hiding after leaving the CTA (Counter Terrorism Agency) but when terrorist come after her Kyle (her ex-boyfriend) and the CTA come to her rescue. Now she needs to find out who the people after her are, how they found her and figure out how to save herself and her family. But she has so many secrets and she is afraid to lean on Kyle and reveal those secrets.

The problem was Genie and Kye have no real connection. While the story can be a little interesting it is just not a story that is believable enough to keep your interest completely. Luckily it is not a long story so reading it to the end was doable, at best.

The story has potential but the author just did not get the characters right. There is no connection to any of them (boyfriend, sister, dad, etc) and the reader just doesn’t get to the point of caring about them either. Plus as I said it is so unbelievable it just never meshes and it manages to get more off course with every page.

REVIEW:
This is the ninth in the Fool’s Gold series. And the last of the Stryker Brother trilogy. And I think Mallery saved the best brother for last. This is the story of Clay and Charlie. We met Charlie a few books back. She is a Fool’s Gold firefighter and Clay is a NYC underwear model.

I will be honest, I could not imagine these two together. I imagined Charlie something like Kristen Johnston from “3rd Rock from the Sun” tv show. And Clay something like Matthew McConaughey. Just not a couple that would look good together but something about them just meshes really well once you start reading. Not only does Charlie believe she is far from feminine she was raped years ago and has never gotten beyond the trauma of the incident and trusting in a man. When she befriends Clay she feels he might be the one to help her get beyond her past. Clay just wants to move past his reputation of being a model and being dumb, spoiled and stand-offish. The interesting thing is both of them just want to be “normal”.

Any woman who has had trauma in her life, even if it was not a rape, can relate to Charlie. She is written so strong physically and will do anything for her friends but when it comes to men there is a vulnerability that any woman can relate to. Then Clay comes into her life. I loved the way he was written. He is so sensitive to her mind, body and heart. He is willing to take it slow with Charlie even when she doesn’t think that is what she wants. Every woman who has been through a trauma should have a man like Clay.

While I would suggest reading the entire series, this book really can stand alone. But I would strongly recommend the entire series. Mallery has a way of bringing you right into her world of Fool’s Gold and you never want to leave.

REVIEW:
Being back in Fool’s Gold is like coming home… Home to a city you wish really existed. This is the eighth in the Fool’s Gold series and the second regarding a Stryker Brothers.

Annabelle is a librarian who we met a few books ago. She decides to raise money for a bookmobile and will be a part of a parade and do a dance on horseback. However she has no idea how to ride a horse. That is where Shane comes in. Shane has been hurt before and after seeing Annabelle dancing on a bar he decides she is exactly what he does not need.

I have loved this series from book one and this book is no different. Mallery brings you right into her world of Fool’s Gold and makes you not want to leave. Mallery does not write Annabelle as the stereotypical librarian. There are no buns in her hair or glasses. And she does not write Shane as a typical cowboy. Yes he rides and teaches others to ride but he is not the lone cowboy. He wants to be in love and have a family but he wants to find someone reserved (like a librarian should be) but that is not Annabelle… well not exactly.

I was happy to see that Mallery brought back so many characters from the series. In the last book we did not get much of a glance of the previous characters but this book seemed to bring everyone back at some point. I loved the guys night out and would love to see more of that.

As with all of this series you can read it as a stand alone but I have no idea why you would want to and reading this one will just make you want to read the others so you might as well start at book one and enjoy your stay in Fool’s Gold.

REVIEW:
Imagine the Big Bang Theory without the humor and with kinky sex and you have this book. Camilla lives in an apartment building with a bunch of nerds who hang out at her house. One of them is Ivan who while extremely smart he really just has no finesse with it comes to dinner parties and fundraising so he asks Camilla to help him with that. She has been attracted to him for a while but never thought he would look at her like more than a friend. Until one night. When Ivan shows Camilla the type of sex he enjoys includes him being a Dom and his female partner a sub she decides to give it a try.

It was hard for me to get the whole Big Bang Theory out of my head even though it was not exactly the same because Ivan is sexy and has no real sense of humor but I imagined a better looking Sheldon learning BDSM. And even with that image in my head it is still a really good read if you enjoy erotica. There is a definite storyline so the reader does not feel like it is a book of sex with a story for convenience. If you have thought about BDSM than you will enjoy this story because while Camilla is unsure and nervous Ivan gets her through the fear. If you are not into BDSM but enjoy erotica then you will probably still enjoy it anyway. If you are not into erotica then heck you may enjoy it too just skip the good parts.

REVIEW:
This novella is cute. It is short with three stories and is a cute read. Cliche’ but cute.

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART: This is a short story of about 65 pages. While enjoyable the story is very cliche’. The man and woman get stuck in a cabin together. Can’t stand each other in the beginning then fall in love. And unfortunately they spend way too long not liking each other and while there is a crackle to their relationship it just seems so dull. Maybe if the story had a bit more to it then it would have been better. I am just not sure.

WINDS OF CHANGE:  Again another short story about 30 pages. It is set in the western frontier and was hard to read. The ain’ts and haftas are just distracting. I was not impressed with the writing of this story.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: This is the real story of the author meeting her husband and is probably the best in this book. I hope they live happily ever after.

REVIEW:

Full Blooded has been on my radar for awhile now and I was thrilled to death when I received this in my mailbox.  Jessica McClain is the only female born in a male-dominated pack in the last few hundred years and her existence has created suspicion and mistrust among the people that should be considered her family.  Jessica is the daughter of the Alpha, Callum McClain, and shortly after her birth, a mysterious letter was received stating that a female born would lead to the destruction of the pack.  Fast forward about twenty years and Jessica has grown into a beautiful independent woman with no signs of being a full-fledged wolf.  That all changes one day when Jessica makes her first transformation into a wolf and everything that she once knew is turned upside down. Her pack doesn’t know what to make of her and she has supernatural beings hunting for her because her abilities as a wolf have never been seen before.  She doesn’t know who to trust and her greatest enemy may become her only ally.

I have a little bit of a girl crush on Jessica because I loved just about everything about her.  She was such a strong independent character that was so used to proving herself in this male-dominated world that she didn’t back down from anything.  She was able to fight for her independence from the pack as well as fight any threat that came her way. I loved watching her character experience all these new changes in her life from being just the Alpha’s daughter to a werewolf that had powers that no other werewolf had ever seen before.  The men in Jessica’s life were also very sexy and powerful and I envied her relationships with them.  I would love to see more of James and the mysterious Colin Rourke who seems to have ulterior motives for suddenly appearing on the scene after Jessica has made her first transformation into a wolf.

This series has so much potential and I am looking forward to reading every word of it.  I feel that Full Blooded is an explosive novel from start to finish that will knock the wind right out of you.  Amanda Carlson has created a paranormal world that has changed all the rules about the werewolf legend and this can lead to endless possibilities.  The saddest thing about all this was I didn’t want this book to end and I know I will have a hard time waiting until April to continue the hunt with Hot Blooded.

REVIEW:
While this book is written very well and has a really interesting story for some reason I just could not get into it. I kept trying and trying but nothing seemed to click. I never felt the connection of Alistair and Jessica. I actually felt more of a connection with her first husband.

Jessica never seemed to warm up and was just to proper. And Alistair seemed like a lovesick puppy for too long for me.

As I said this was written very well I just think it was something that did not click with me and this story. I do believe if you are a fan of historical romance this would be an interesting book to read for most people.

REVIEW:
Blaze is book 2 in Joan Swan’s Phoenix Rising series.  Blaze is grabs you from the page one and keeps you turning the pages until the end.  You will want to scream at the characters and then reach for the tissues, root for the characters and then want to slap them upside the head.  There are some surprising turns of events that will shape the next few books in this series.  New characters from the past walk into the team’s life and will change the fabric of who they all are. But even with this the team is left with more questions than answers as to who and what really happened to them.

I loved Luke in FEVER and loved him more in BLAZE.  Luke is just an all around great guy.  He loves his friends, family and can’t let go of the love of his life.  He is willing to go the extra mile to do anything to keep her, but will even that be enough to winner her back?

Keira has had a very rough life and she is always ready to cut and run the minute life starts closing.  The only constant in her life has been her love for Luke.  But she even throw that away.  But when Luke pops back into her life she is not sure if she can turn him away again, but is she strong enough to face the demons of her past in order to move on and live her life with Luke?

Luke & Kiera find themselves thrown together in order to save a group of kids from a madman.  Little do they know the journey that they are about to go on and how one little boy will change everything for all of them.

Joan is such a great writer.  I love how she tugs at my heartstrings the whole way through this book.  Like any good author she loves to make us as readers suffer all the emotional highs and lows that she can.    If you enjoyed FEVER you will love BLAZE!! I am very much looking forward to want is next in the Phoenix Rising series.

REVIEW:
4 ½ Stars. I have always enjoyed Heather Graham’s ghost stories and this one is no exception. Actually I think it is the best one she has written lately, even though I love all of them. I am hearing this is the last of Graham’s Krewe of Hunters series. No one writes a ghost story like Graham does. Besides the ghosts who take on a life of their own (pun intended) the fact that Graham writes with so much history is what astounds me. By the time the reader is done with the book they actually want to travel to the city to take in the sites and read a book about the history of the area. There is no better travel agent then Graham when she writes a novel.

I really enjoyed the story of Allison and Tyler. They are written with such chemistry right from the start. While there is no real hostility when they first met, as I read in the last Graham book, there was just a underlying uncertainty about the other person and I think that comes off better when you read it. I loved the ghost Julian in the story as well. The history of the house and Philadelphia is also really  interesting.

If you love a ghost story with a bit of suspense than Graham should be your first choice of authors. And as always with her books I never figure out who did it.

*Note: The ARC I received was slightly different from this description. The house was named the Tarleton-Dandrige House not the Landon Mansion and the “Butcher” Bedford was actually named Brian “Beast” Bradley. I am unsure if the characters were changed or the synopsis is incorrect.
