Kelly reviews Werewolf in Alaska by Vicki Lewis Thompson

Werewolf in Alaska

TITLE: Werewolf in Alaska
SERIES #: Wild About You #5
CHARACTERS: Jake Hunter & Rachel Miller
AUTHOR: Vicki Lewis Thompson
PUBLICATION DATE: July 2, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
He’s a lone wolf—for now.

In Polecat, Alaska, Rachel Miller and Jake Hunter have a mutual admiration for each other—from across a lake. There’s nothing Rachel likes more than spying on the very fit wilderness guide when he skinny-dips each night. And Jake has always been curious about his reclusive artist neighbor. He even bought Rachel’s first wood carving: a wolf who looks suspiciously like him…

Jake is a werewolf, but not just any werewolf. He’s the founder of WARM (Werewolves Against Random Mating). And that means a human like Rachel is off-limits, no matter how attractive he finds her.

But when Rachel is threatened by a bear, and Jake shifts to save her, their lives collide with an intense passion, one that could change everything they’ve ever felt about themselves—and each other.

REVIEW:
4 1/4 Stars Jake & Rachel have been neighbors for the last few years. While they have never spoken to each other Rachel knows an awful lot about Jack. Thanks to some high powered binoculars and Jake’s night time skinny dips. But after a chance in counter at the local supermarket neither of their lives will be the same.

The only question is will Jake let it happen….

This was a fun book. Also this was my first Vicki Lewis Thompson book. I do plan on getting books 1-4 of the Wild About You series and reading them very soon.

Kelly reviews Alien In The House by Gini Koch

Alien In The House

TITLE: Alien In The House
SERIES #: Katherine “Kitty” Kat #7
CHARACTERS: Kitty Martin, Jeff Martin & Crew
AUTHOR: Gini Koch
PUBLICATION DATE: May 7, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini have learned the ins and outs of Washington politics, not to mention how to prevail in intergalactic war and foil dangerous plots. But, in the aftermath of Operation Destruction, the Gower girls’ powers are burned out, the entire A-C population has been “outed” as the aliens living on Earth that they are, and, worst of all, ACE is nowhere to be found.

Then murder and mayhem are served up at an important dinner party at the American Centaurion Embassy, and when the dust settles Alpha Team and the Diplomatic Corps have more problems than just a dead Congressman.

Is there a single criminal mastermind—or multiple enemies—behind all the conspiracies that want Kitty dead and the A-Cs gone or co-opted to become the War Division?

The return of the best assassins in the business, the reappearance of two individuals long-presumed dead, Agent Malcolm Buchanan felled by something no one can identify or cure, and new technology that can block even the most powerful empath on Earth … all of this means the game’s officially afoot.

Then Vance Beaumont comes to Kitty with a wild theory that someone is systematically killing off the House of Representatives…

It’s up to Kitty and the rest of the gang to find out what’s really going on and why. But will they be able to stop the killer or killers before the rest of the U.S. House of Representatives become casualties? And will the replacement Representative for New Mexico’s 2nd District, who happens to be Jeff Martini, be the next to die?

REVIEW:
I just love this series. Love the characters, love the world and could tell you so much about this book. But you all know that I don’t do spoilers. Since I don’t want to give too much away let’s say that Kitty again has to implore her brilliantly, witty mind, ask for a little help from her friends, and live on a wing and a pray that they make it out of this one in one piece.

It was so good to be back in the A-C world. I love to see the whole cast of characters and how much the grow and change. And sweet little Jamie is getting so big 🙂

But I do love this series. Although I would highly recommend that you read this series in order. There is a lot of history that leads up to this books and if you just job into Alien in the House you might be a tad lost. But the whole series is worth reading.

I can’t wait to see what is in store for Kitty, Jeff and crew next!

Ursula reviews Game Misconduct by Bianca Sommerland

TITLE: Game Misconduct
SERIES #: Dartmouth Cobras #1
CHARACTERS: Oriana Delgado, Max Perron
AUTHOR: Bianca Sommerland
PUBLICATION DATE: 02/09/2012
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The game has always cast a shadow over Oriana Delgado’s life. She should hate the game. But she doesn’t. The passion and the energy of the sport are part of her. But so is the urge to drop the role of the Dartmouth Cobra owner’s ‘good daughter’ and find a less…conventional one.

Playmaker Max Perron never expected a woman to accept him and his twisted desires. Oriana came close, but he wasn’t surprised when she walked away. A girl like her needs normal. Which he can’t give her. He’s too much of a team player, and not just on the ice.

But then Oriana’s father goes too far in trying to control her and she decides to use exposure as blackmail. Just the implication of her spending the night with the Cobras’ finest should get her father to back off.

Turns out a team player is exactly what she needs.

Warning:
This ebook contains material not suitable for readers under 18. It also contains scenes that some may find objectionable, including BDSM, ménage sex, bondage, anal sex, sex toys, double penetration, voyeurism, edge play, and hockey equipment being used inappropriately.

REVIEW:
I will start out by saying that this is not your usual menage book. There are several groupings throughout the book but in the end, Oriana ends up with just 3. I love a good menage book as much as the next girl but this one got quite a bit confusing at times. I kind of felt like I needed a diagram to help me keep up. Also most confusing was the fact that the author kept switching between the characters first names and last names so that sometimes I lost track of who I was reading about.

Other than that this was a good book. There was some hot love scenes and you get a heavy glimpse into the BDSM scene. Plenty of family drama to keep the reader interested and I am excited to get the chance to read about Oriana’s sister, Silver, in the next book. Bottom line, if you love hockey, then you will like this book.

Ursula reviews Defensive Zone by Bianca Sommerland

TITLE: Defensive Zone
SERIES #: Dartmouth Cobras #2
CHARACTERS: Silver Delgado, Dean Richter, Landon Bower
AUTHOR: Bianca Sommerland
PUBLICATION DATE: 05/24/2012
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Silver Delgado has gained control of The Dartmouth Cobras—and lost control of her life.

Hockey might be the family business, but it’s never interested Silver. Until her father’s health decline thrusts responsibility for the team he owns straight into her hands. Now she has to find a way to get the team more fans, and establish herself as the new owner. Which means standing up to Dean Richter, the general manager and the advisor her father has forced on her. The fact that their ‘business relationship’ started with her over his lap at his BDSM club shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Their hot one night stand meant nothing! But how can she earn his respect when he sees her as submissive? Can they separate work and the lifestyle she’s curious to explore?

Balancing her new life away from Hollywood, living among people who see her as the selfish Delgado princess, has her feeling lost and alone until Landon Bower, the Cobras new Goalie slips into her life and becomes her best—and only—friend. The time they spend together makes everything else bearable, but before long his eyes meet hers with more than friendship, reflecting what she feels. Which could ruin everything.

Two Dominant men who see past her pretty mask and the shallow image she portrayed to the flashing cameras. A gentle attack from both sides that she can’t hope to block unless she learns how to play.

But she’s getting the hang of the game.

Warning
This ebook contains material not suitable for readers under 18. In also contains scenes that some may find objectionable, including BDSM, ménage sex, bondage, anal sex, sex toys, double penetration, edge play, and two Doms that will use any means necessary to earn submission. Author assumes no responsibility for repercussions related to reenacting office scenes, but will take full credit for all pleasure involved.

REVIEW:
I loved this book. The character of Silver was my favorite. I really felt for her. I wanted to cuddle her and make everything alright for her. I know a lot of people thought she was a bitch but I could tell she was just misunderstood. In the first book the glimpses of her were enough to make me want to know more. I think the author did a good job of showing the personal character growth of all the characters in this book, but especially Silver. I am glad that her relationship with her sister was repaired, because those two really need each other with the monster of a father they have.

I felt that this book was definitely better written and better edited than the first book. You could really see the writer’s growth and also it wasn’t as confusing. Also we get a tempting glimpse into the next book’s main characters. I am looking forward to reading book 3.

ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love—no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club…

And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him—in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

REVIEW:
I am on the fence about this one. I like the characters well enough, but never really connected with them. I don’t know what it was. I am not sure if it was this biker world that was created or if I was not in the mood for it. I just didn’t really get into this book.

I do plan on picking up the next in this series and giving the Chaos world another ride.

But I am sure if you loved book 1 then you will love Fire Inside.

I really like Melinda’s writing style. She does a great job of sucking you into her world. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this book. As always I am trying to figure out the who done its. And boy howdy I would have never guessed who it was in the end.

Kelly reviews One Sweet Ride by Jaci Burton

One Sweet Ride

TITLE: One Sweet Ride
SERIES: Play By Play #6
CHARACTERS: Gray Preston & Evelyn Hill
AUTHOR: Jaci Burton
PUBLICATION DATE: June 4, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Gray Preston was born into money, but he’s built his racing empire on hard work and muscle. And now that Gray has millions of fans, his senator father sends one of his aides, Evelyn Hill, to elicit Gray’s help in garnering votes for the upcoming national election. Gray wants nothing to do with his estranged father’s campaign, but Evelyn can be pretty persuasive. She’s willing to learn about racing, and maybe even get a little dirty.

Evelyn’s number-one goal is politics, which makes working with Gray difficult, because his only passion is fast cars. As she and Gray spend time together, he teaches her about the sport he loves, and she learns a lot about the man behind the wheel. The more she learns, the more she wants him. But any desire that threatens to derail the carefully laid plans for her future is a dangerous one.

With the passion Gray and Evelyn share running hotter than either imagined, one of them is going to have to compromise, or else run the risk of losing more than their hearts.

REVIEW:
4.5 Stars Jaci really knows how to take oil & vinegar to get a great mix. Gray & Evelyn are so different, yet work so perfectly together.

Gray is the uber hot, race car driving, racing team owner and all around good guy. But Gray does have some serious baggage when it comes to his father. So it is no surprise that he wants nothing to do with the drop dead gorgeous woman that wants him to work with his father. And support his father in his new campaign to become vice president.

Evelyn loves her job, loves politics, loves D.C. and has worked very hard to get where she is at today. So she is not going to let a crabby race car driver stand in her way of helping his father win the VP seat. Oh no, Evelyn is willing to play dirty when it comes to Gray Preston. Evelyn pulls out the dirtiest play in the book, she calls his mom… 🙂

These two are so good together. I loved every stop of their journey. Even the heartbreaking parts. If you have love Jaci’s Play-by-Play books in the past you will fall in love with One Sweet Ride. But never fear. If you are new to the Play-by-Play series (which you really should read all of them 😀 ) One Sweet Ride can easily be read as a stand alone.

Kimberly reviews On Dublin Street by Samantha Young

TITLE: On Dublin Street
CHARACTERS: Jocelyn & Braden
AUTHOR: Samantha Young
PUBLICATION DATE: 08/31/12
ORDER LINKSAmazon | B&N

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Jocelyn Butler has been hiding from her past for years. But all her secrets are about to be laid bare…

Four years ago, Jocelyn left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Scotland, burying her grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without attachments. Her solitary life is working well—until she moves into a new apartment on Dublin Street where she meets a man who shakes her carefully guarded world to its core.

Braden Carmichael is used to getting what he wants, and he’s determined to get Jocelyn into his bed. Knowing how skittish she is about entering a relationship, Braden proposes an arrangement that will satisfy their intense attraction without any strings attached.

But after an intrigued Jocelyn accepts, she realizes that Braden won’t be satisfied with just mind-blowing passion. The stubborn Scotsman is intent on truly knowing her… down to the very soul.

REVIEW:
Wow… I was not expecting this book to be anything like this. Honestly I wasn’t sure what kind of book I was expecting but this certainly exceeded my expectations. I was enthralled within the first couple of pages. This is a very intense romance. Jocelyn is just so broken from her past that she has literally stopped herself from feeling. She makes the reader hurt for her. There were times I wanted to reach through the book and slap her and other times I wanted to just hug her. She is just written so clearly and emotionally that she almost leaves you feeling her emotions.

Braden on the other hand is just… perfect? Is that the right word? Yeah I think so. Yes he has issues but of course his issues are nothing like Joss’s. She is so strong and yet so loving that I wish more men were like him in the world. He is rich (as so many are in these books) but you never really get that feel from him.

The book is written in an odd way. It took some getting used to for me. This was written almost like a letter or email would be written. I could imagine “Joss” sending this information to a friend. Having that moment when you say “that would later come back to haunt me” and then telling them why it did. It is hard to explain but it did take a little bit for me to get used to that.

I loved this book. Yes there is sex but this is not erotica this is romance. This is intense romance. And worth reading every word.
