Winter Romance Wednesday! Kelly reviews A Fool’s Gold Christmas by Susan Mallery
TITLE: A Fool’s Gold Christmas
SERIES #: Fool’s Gold #9.5
CHARACTERS: Dante Jefferson & Evie Stryker
AUTHOR: Susan Mallery
PUBLICATION DATE: September 25, 2012
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
The unrelenting cheer in Fool’s Gold, California, is bringing out the humbug in dancer Evie Stryker. She learned early on that Christmas miracles don’t happen, at least not for her. And this year seems like no exception. An injury has forced her to return to the family fold, no matter that they’re estranged. She won’t add to the awkward scenario by being seduced by the bad-boy charms of her brother’s best friend, the last man she should ever want to date. Even when she’s recruited to stage Fool’s Gold’s winter festival, she vows to do as promised, then move forward with her life anywhere but here.
Jaded lawyer Dante Jefferson is getting used to the backwater town he now reluctantly calls home, but the pounding of little dancers’ feet above his temporary office is more than any man should have to take! When he confronts their gorgeous teacher, he’s unprepared for the attraction that sears him down to the soul. Evie is his best friend’s sister-off-limits unless he’s willing to risk his heart. Dante has always believed that love is the most dangerous force in the universe, but that was before he had to reckon with the magic of a certain small town, where miracles do seem to happen….
REVIEW:
Dante has been forced to move to the little town of Fool’s Gold because his business partner has decided that this is where he needs to be. That doesn’t mean he is happy about it or about the dance studio that is clogging away above his head. But Dante is planning on putting a stop to the noise once and for all. That is until he sees who the dance teachers is.
Evie is back in Fool’s Gold. Not because she wants to, but because her family dragged her back. But now that she is back she is going to make the best of her time. As long as she can steer clear of her mother & brothers. Steering clear of her brothers business partner is not going to be as easy.
Dante & Evie are both dealing with so much pain from the past. Pain that is making them blind to everything that they could to each other. But can the christmas season bring these two together or will they be left hurting even more?
Another good story from Susan Mallery. I really enjoy every trip that I take to Fool’s Gold and can’t wait to see what Susan has in store next for the people of Fool’s Gold.

Winter Romance Review: Jennifer reviews The Christmas Cookie Collection by Lori Wilde
TITLE: The Christmas Cookie Collection
SERIES: Twilight Texas
AUTHOR: Lori Wilde
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/29/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS: There’s a legend in Twilight, Texas. It says that if on Christmas you sleep with kismet cookies under your pillow and dream of your one true love, he will be your destiny.
Carrie, Raylene, Christine, and Flynn are all members of the Christmas Cookie Club. Each has a story to tell, and each discovers the miracles of the season and the power of love.
REVIEW: I loved each of these wonderful stories which is the perfect romance collection for the holiday season. Each of these stories revolves around a member of the Christmas Cookie Club that are having a hard time around the holidays due to losing someone that they truly cared about or have yet to find their true love.
The first story involves Carrie who hates the holidays because her high school sweetheart, Mark, left her after having their marriage annulled eight years ago. She never has gotten over the pain of that event and has recently found out that a reality television show is coming to Twilight to prove that their first love legend is only fiction. To Carrie’s horror, she learns that the host of Fact or Fiction will be in Twilight as well and is none other than her ex-boyfriend, Mark.
Mark has never gotten over his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Carrie and is hoping that coming to Twilight will help him finally get over her or to make amends. He never expected the feelings that he had for her to come rushing back to him the moment he laid eyes on her. The only thing is that Carrie wants nothing to do with him and is avoiding him at every turn. Can he convince her to give their love another chance?
This was one of my favorite stories out of all of them. Carrie never has gotten over the love of her life and the holiday season only reminds her of what she had lost. They married right after high school and Carrie ended the relationship after learning that Mark was accepted to a big college and she never wanted to stand in the way of him pursuing his dreams. She didn’t want him to stay in Twilight if he had the opportunity for bigger and better things just because he was with her. Very sweet story and I loved that they never stopped caring for each other and that love will always find a way.
The second story involves Raylene, the owner of the Horny Toad Tavern, who is just as bitter about the holidays as Carrie. Raylene is having a hard time around Christmas because her husband left her a year ago after learning that she had a child before they were together and she had given that child to the wealthy grandparent’s of the father. She has never forgiven herself for that decision and now she has lost the only man that she has ever loved.
A mysterious young woman comes into town and ends up on Raylene’s doorstep looking for a job but is really there for a different reason. Shannon Dugan has come to Twilight to learn more about the mother that had left her behind and see if she can build a relationship with the only remaining family that she has left. Shannon gets more than she bargained for when she meets Nate Deavers, a man that would do anything to show Shannon that family isn’t the only thing that she can have while she is Twilight. Shannon now has the opportunity to make a home in Twilight and find that everything that she has ever wanted has been waiting for her in this small Texas town.
I think that Raylene’s story was the best because it dealt with two people finding something that they had always been searching for. Raylene never forgave herself for giving Shannon to her paternal grandparents because she felt that since they were wealthy they could provide her with a better life. Shannon grew up with a silver spoon but never really had the love that she needed from her grandparents and recently had her heart broken from a two-timing con man. I loved Nate in this story because once he saw Shannon, that was it for him. It was love at first sight and he treaded carefully as to not scare her away from the possibility of a relationship with him. Shannon was afraid to love again after her last disastrous relationship but I loved how caring and considerate Nate was with her. Was so glad that everyone found their happy ending in this story and Raylene was able to find the love that she once thought that she had lost.
The third story is Carrie’s and it was a cute one. Carrie has always been wanting a family of her own but after a car accident as a teenager, she learned that she could never have a child. This fact prevented her from having a true relationship because the jerks that she dated before ran when they learned that she would never be able to conceive. Happy with her successful bakery, Carrie yearns for something more when Eli walks into her shop one day. Eli, is a face from her past, a high school crush that she never forgot about and neither did he.
Eli is a widower raising four kids of his own and has heard great things about the bakery in Twilight. So he entered Carrie’s bakery on a mission to have her make a birthday cake for his teenage daughter, never expecting to find the girl that he once kissed behind the high school bleachers working there. The two of them have a second chance at love but have to face a few obstacles along the way. Great story but I would have loved their story to be just a little bit longer.
The last story in this collection is called Grace and involves Jesse and Flynn Calloway. On Christmas Eve, they venture out into the snowy night to bring presents to a family who wouldn’t have much of a Christmas otherwise. Flynn is nine months pregnant with their first child and could give birth at any time so they try to rush home so Flynn won’t be out in the cold for very long. On the way home, Flynn and Jesse get separated and Flynn is involved in a car accident and Jesse will do whatever it takes to get to his wife and unborn child. Very short tale but the perfect ending for this collection.
Lori Wilde is a great writer and knows how to write fabulous small town romances that will tug at your heart strings. I love her Twilight, Texas series and I think that The Christmas Cookie Collection will be a book that you can read over and over again this holiday season.

Winter Romance Review! Kelly review Christmas On Main Street by Ross, Donovan, McLane, & Morgan
TITLE: Christmas on Main Street
AUTHOR: Ross, Donovan, McLane, & Morgan
PUBLICATION DATE: November 5, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
‘Tis the season to fall in love in these four small towns.
In “Christmas in Shelter Bay,” New York Times bestselling author JoAnn Ross returns to Shelter Bay, where Kelli has long tried to keep her feelings for her friend Cole a secret. But when the local matchmakers conspire to send them to a secluded lakeside cabin, the two friends soon discover that a little love will keep them warm.
TV producer Nathaniel Ravelle knows the Bayberry Island mermaid legend is a joke— how could a statue grant a wish for true love? But when a Christmas Nor’easter lands him in close quarters with local Annie Parker, they see magic at work in matters of the heart in New York Timesbestselling author Susan Donovan’s “A Seaside Christmas.”
In LuAnn McLane’s “Mistletoe on Main Street,” Clint isn’t sure how to rekindle his romance with high school sweetheart Ava—until his father bows out of playing Santa at the annual Cricket Creek holiday parade and Clint gets the chance to make this Christmas one to remember.
And in Alexis Morgan’s “The Christmas Gift”, business is booming at Bridey Roke’s pastry shop. Everyone in town stops in to sample her holiday treats. But in her spare moments, she’s perfecting a special recipe to charm the handsome new neighbor—who has his own surprise gift for her come Christmas Eve!
REVIEW:
Christmas in Shelter Bay: This was a sweet little christmas story of a love that has been growing since before they even understood what true love was. Cole & Kelli have been friends since childhood. While Kelli has always know that Cole was the one for her it has taken Cole just a tad bit longer to realize that his life will never be complete without Kelli.
Adding a meddling family and you have a really fun story.
A Seaside Christmas: I didn’t connect with this story. It was an interesting twist on a christmas story, but was not for me.
Mistletoe on Main Street: This was a good story. Clint & Ava were childhood sweethearts but life and the chance for the major leagues took him away. But while 15 years have past neither of them have forgot the love they shared. But it might take a christmas miracle to get Ava to open her heart up to him again.
The Christmas Gift: This was my favorite story in this anthology. I just loved Seth & Bridey they are so sweet together. I loved that these two were so perfect to each other.

A seductive and beautifully written novel for erotic romance fans. The Silver Chain is the first in the sexy, passionate and addictive Unbreakable Trilogy by Primula Bond.
The next book in the trilogy, The Golden Locket, is out in ebook on 21st November and paperback on 19th December.
REVIEW:
I really did not enjoy this book. It was difficult to read for me. I really do not like when we get cliffhangers in books and this has one. The characters are uninteresting to me and have no connection. The story starts way to slow. The story says it is for fans of Fifty Shades but honestly doesn’t every book that claims it is erotica do the same thing? And trust me this is not up to par with Fifty Shades.
Had to force myself to finish it and really won’t read the next two in the series.

Winter Romance Review! Kelly and Kimberly review A Vampire’s Christmas Carol by Cynthia Eden
TITLE: A Vampire’s Christmas Carol
CHARACTERS: Ben Prescott & Simone Laurent
AUTHOR: Cynthia Eden
PUBLICATION DATE: November 11, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
This holiday season has bite.
Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season. While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows. Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.
But fate has other plans for Ben.
Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.
‘Tis the season…to be undead.
Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent. If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone. A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…
Warning: This book features one very tortured vampire, a sexy ghost from his past, and hot scenes designed to melt the winter snow. Plenty of action, adult situations, and steamy times are ahead. Happy holidays!
KELLY’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS One night 3 visitors and one chance to change his life forever, but will he take it? Or will he forever be in the darkness.
This was a quick novella. I liked the twist the Cynthia put on a classic Christmas story. And since we all know the story and this is a novella I won’t give you to much. Except that Simone is willing to do anything to save the vampire that she loves. But will Ben be able to do what is need in order to save Simone a second time? Guess you need to pick up a copy of A Vampire’s Christmas carol and find out.
KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS This is a short novella of only about 60 pages but it is complete and very interesting. Obviously I won’t say much because the story is so short I do not want to give anything away but I found myself engrossed in the short read. The characters are interesting and the backstory is really thorough. Great holiday read if you enjoy the paranormal genre.

Kelly reviews Fashionably Dead by Robyn Peterman
TITLE: Fashionable Dead
SERIES #: Hot Damned #1
CHARACTER: Ethan & Astrid
AUTHOR: Robyn Peterman
PUBLICATION DATE: September 2, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon| B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Vampyres don’t exist. They absolutely do not exist.
At least I didn’t think they did ‘til I tried to quit smoking and ended up Undead. Who in the hell did I screw over in a former life that my getting healthy equates with dead?
Now I’m a Vampyre. Yes, we exist whether we want to or not. However, I have to admit, the perks aren’t bad. My girls no longer jiggle, my ass is higher than a kite and the latest Prada keeps finding its way to my wardrobe. On the downside, I’m stuck with an obscenely profane Guardian Angel who looks like Oprah and a Fairy Fighting Coach who’s teaching me to annihilate like the Terminator.
To complicate matters, my libido has increased to Vampyric proportions and my attraction to a hotter than Satan’s underpants killer rogue Vampyre is not only dangerous . . . it’s possibly deadly. For real dead. Permanent death isn’t on my agenda. Avoiding him is my only option. Of course, since he thinks I’m his, it’s easier said than done. Like THAT’S not enough to deal with, all the other Vampyres think I’m some sort of Chosen One.
Holy Hell, if I’m in charge of saving an entire race of blood suckers, the Undead are in for one hell of a ride.
REVIEW:
All Astrid wanted to do was quit smoking. That didn’t work out so great, she got a little more than she bargained for. Because waking up dead or undead really has a way of messing up a girls life.
I loved this book. I loved all of the characters in this book. And I love Robyn’s wittiness and sass that she puts into each of her characters. Loved Ethan & Astrid are like chips and guacamole. While yummy separately they are to die for good together. And the baby demons Oh my goodness they are funny!! Seriously I love Robyn’s work and can not wait to see what happens next with Ethan & Astrid. The future of these two will be a crazy fun journey that is for sure.

Kelly & Kimberly review How To Run With A Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper
TITLE: How to Run with a Naked Werewolf
SERIES #: Naked Werewolf #3
CHARACTERS: Caleb Graham & Anna Moder
AUTHOR: Molly Harper
PUBLICATION DATE: December 31, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Caleb Graham is a werewolf by nature, a tracker by profession. He uses his “extra gifts” to find people, and not always in the most legal or ethical manner. He doesn’t care what they’ve done, or who wants them found, as long as his considerable fee is paid. He likes his life simple and uncomplicated.
Anna Moder, former physician to Caleb’s pack, happens across Caleb during a particularly violent “negotiation” that has left him bloodied and unconscious. She helps him, despite the fact that he’s cost her a car, so he insists that she stay with him on the road for a while. As they grow closer, Anna looks past the gruff exterior and and the questionable job to thoroughly decent werewolf underneath.
Anna – who is careful to edit her involvement with Caleb’s pack from their conversations – doesn’t talk about why a nice girl wants to live in the middle of frozen nowhere, but she’s obviously on the run from something. When Anna’s past collides with Caleb’s current assignment from one of his sleazier contacts, Caleb finally has to make a choice—protect his job…or his potential mate?
KELLY’S REVIEW:
4.5 HEARTS Anna Moder is a girl on the run. Running from a past that always seems to catch up with her. If she could just catch a break. Finally be able to settle down, set roots and not live in fear. But that is not going to happen, not when her ex is still out there looking for her.
Caleb is a man who does his job well, very well. As a bounty hunter he really doesn’t care why or who he is hunting as long as there is a pay check at the end of the job.
But what happens when you find out your latest assignment might be your mate? Guess you will have to read to find out.
Love, love, love everything that Molly Harper writes. I am really hoping that this is not the last book in the Naked Werewolf series. I really hope that we will get to visit the pack again really really soon.
KIMBERLY’S REVIEW:
4 HEARTS This is the first I have ever read Molly Harper and I have to say she actually made me chuckle out loud a couple of times. This is the third in a series but trust me you do not need to read the other books at all. Yes there are a couple of lines that make you realize you missed other characters backstory but it is not something that makes a difference to this story.
Anna is a strong and yet insecure woman. She has overcome a lot and yet her past is always right there in front of her with everything she does. She has been running a long time and really is just plain tired. But you can feel her strength through the pages and you just want to cheer her on. Caleb is an interesting character as well. While he was not the alpha wolf I expected him to be written as I was pleasantly surprised to find him just a “regular” werewolf….is there such a thing? He wasn’t alpha, he wasn’t beta, he was just himself. And I liked that about him. Is he my newest “book boyfriend”? Nope. But he is the type of guy you want to be friends with and would love to set your best friend up with.
This might be my first Harper book but it will not be my last. Her writing is fun and entertaining.

Kelly reviews Size Matters by Robyn Peterman
TITLE: Size Matters
SERIES #: Handcuffs & Happily Ever After #2
CHARACTERS: Mitch & Kristy
AUTHOR: Robyn Peterman
PUBLICATION DATE: December 19, 2013
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
A few hard truths…Don’t bet on Hasselhoff, Bigfoot might actually exist, and searching for the impossible may lead you to your heart’s desire…
It’s a big fat hairy deal when I lose yet another bet to my best friend, Rena. Not only do I end up attending Bigfoot meetings with her kooky Aunt Phyllis, I find myself traveling with a band of reality TV, Sasquatch-hunting nut-jobs! Not to mention a suspiciously shady film crew. As if those little nuggets weren’t enough to send me on the express-train to Crazytown…I stupidly swore off men!
Clearly all this would mess up any gal’s social life, but the worst part of the story? The minute I send my libido on vacation, I meet Mitch. Yep, Mitch, the sexiest cop ev-ah. The hottest, best kissing, finest tushied, SINGLE guy I’ve ever laid eyes on. I’d rather be hot on his trail than anything that involves the word Big or Foot. But sometimes what you’re hunting for has been right in front of you all along
REVIEW:
This is was fun read. We met Kristy briefly in “How Hard Can It Be” (which was super funny and you really should read) and her best gal pal Rena. But In Size Matters we find out the Kristy has been extremely unlucky in love. Like beyond unlucky in love. Oh and Kristy really should never beat on anything. She is guaranteed to lose. Hence the reason Kristy finds herself driving Aunt Moon-Unit (Yes Moon-Unit) to a month worth of Bigfoot believer meetings. But that is only the start of Kristy’s trouble.
Kristy takes yet another beat from her best pal. What is the bet? That she won’t fall head over heels for Jack’s (who is Rena’s boyfriend)best friend and new partner. Kristy knows this a beat that she can’t lose. No way, no how, not ever going to happen. You see Kristy has sworn off dating cops.
But then women’s shelter she runs is broken into and she comes face to face with the most amazing man she has ever seen. From that moment on things don’t go according to plan. Oh heck the completely and udderly blow up in Kristy’s face.
I love Robyn’s writing style. She is so funny. Her characters are fun and have some of the most colorful language I have ever read. I often wonder where the heck Robyn grow up at to learn such language. If you have not given Robyn’s books a try you really should. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Kimberly reviews The Perfect Match by Kristan Higgins
TITLE: The Perfect Match
SERIES #: Blue Heron #2
CHARACTERS: Honor & Tom
AUTHOR: Kristan Higgins
PUBLICATION DATE: 10/29/13
ORDER LINKS: Amazon | B&N
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
What if the perfect match is a perfect surprise?
Honor Holland has just been unceremoniously rejected by her lifelong crush. And now—a mere three weeks later—Mr. Perfect is engaged to her best friend. But resilient, reliable Honor is going to pick herself up, dust herself off and get back out there or she would if dating in Manningsport, New York, population 715, wasn’t easier said than done.
Charming, handsome British professor Tom Barlow just wants to do right by his unofficial stepson, Charlie, but his visa is about to expire. Now Tom must either get a green card or leave the States—and leave Charlie behind.
In a moment of impulsiveness, Honor agrees to help Tom with a marriage of convenience—and make her ex jealous in the process. But juggling a fiancé, hiding out from her former best friend and managing her job at the family vineyard isn’t easy. And as sparks start to fly between Honor and Tom, they might discover that their pretend relationship is far too perfect to be anything but true love .
REVIEW:
3.75 Hearts I enjoyed this book. Maybe not as much as Higgin’s other books but it is still an enjoyable read. There is just something a little off about this story and I don’t exactly know what it is. The characters really do not have any chemistry which is a shame.
I liked Honor when she was a background player in the first in the series so I expected to like her in this one and I did but I just didn’t love her. Or Tom really. I think the beginning of the book was a little slow and then the ending seemed to zoom by.
Now that all being said there is no such thing as a bag book by Higgins. She is one of the best in the contemporary romance genre so even a book that isn’t perfect is still great and this one is a good story. I just wouldn’t read it and not give her other books a try.

REVIEW:
4.5 HEARTS This Time Next Year: A snowing road, a deer and a snow bank. Not the best way to spend your last Christmas in the US with your Gran. But being saved by a man on horseback was never in the plans. This was a good story. Although I was extremely upset with Brenna for leaving.
A Rare Gift: This is my second time reading this story and I loved it just as much as I did the first time. Wyatt & Calliope are so cute together. I love the she pushes so much. If you are a fan of Jaci’s you will love this story. Also this is #2 in the Kent Brothers trilogy.
It’s Not Christmas Without You: I enjoyed this story. Austin & Carrie are great. I loved that Austin didn’t give up on what he wants and he wants Carrie. But when he realizes that Carrie doesn’t need him like he needs her, he does what he never thought he would do. He walks away. This is book #1 in the Holloway Series
Mistletoe and Margaritas: I think this was my favorite story of the four. It made my heartbreak, it made me cry and it made me so happy. Justin & Claire are so good together. I really would love for Shannon to write a follow up story on these two. I want to know how the future turns out for them.
